I’m really curious about kaleidoscope and blank paper! Maybe you can pick one for me? (Or both, both is good.)
Ohoho, so one is Dreamling, and the other is actually an old attempt at a FrostIron fanfiction I never finished because it was before I "properly" started writing. I can give you both :)
Kaleidoscope - Hob takes Daniel out to dinner
“You look very nice.” “Thank you. You as well.” Hob gave an awkward laugh. “I’ve been told that I clean up nicely if I make an effort. Thanks.” Daniel hummed and gave him a small smile, his eyes soft around the edges. “You’ve always been very handsome, Hob. You don’t strike me as a man who cares what others think. Why the sudden self-consciousness?” Hob inhaled sharply and leaned back in his chair. He suppressed the urge to tuck on his ear. “Well, it’s you, you know? You’re,” he swallowed again around the lump stuck in his throat, “you’re beautiful. People are looking at you and think you’re a model or some star from telly, and I’m just some guy in a suit.” It was a nice suit, to be fair, slate-grey and well-cut, but Hob still felt like people would surely see how far out of his league Daniel was. Part of him preened itself on the knowledge that Dream was here with him of all people, because he wanted to be. A different part waited anxiously for the other shoe to drop, for Daniel to stand up and disappear, to realise that Hob was just a man, nothing special, and not worthy of his time. Daniel frowned. “Hob. You are more than ‘just some guy’. You cannot know, but these people,” he looked around at the other guests of the restaurant, a lot of them trying to unobtrusively stare at them, “can you guess what their daydreams look like right now?” Hob snorted. “I can guess, alright.” Daniel, glittering like a beautiful snowflake, a prince among peasants, smiling at them over one shoulder, granting them a touch, maybe even a kiss- Hob stopped his train of thought, heat rushing through him. Daniel’s eyes glinted like cut emeralds and Hob could have sworn he saw him blush the tiniest bit.
Blank Paper - a FrostIron (Loki/Tony) story set after Avengers. Loki, about to be exiled to Midgard without his powers, has annoyed Odin into smacking him so hard with Gungnir that he loses his memory
“Can you tell me your name?” the man asked. He opened his mouth to reply – but didn't know how to answer. He frowned. His name? His name... “I...” he croaked, searching for words in the depth of his mind. Everything was still so dark, and empty. He felt... empty. “I don't... know...” It felt as if he had forgotten something terribly important, but he couldn't grasp it. Like a vast black mirror his mind stretched out around him, and all that he could see in its reflection was himself, only the outline of a person in the darkness, hollow, empty, alone. He started to shiver, felt nausea overtaking him, the pain in his head suddenly increasing, making it reel. He let his eyes fall closed again. He wanted to sleep. But the man wouldn't let him. “Hey, wake up. You have to stay awake. Come on, look at me. Hey!” A calloused big hand cradled his cheek, slapping it slightly to make him open his eyes again. He obeyed and looked up at the young blonde again. “You probably have a concussion, it might cause serious damage to your brain if you fall asleep now. So don't,” he heard him say, and thought that that sounded like a good reason to stay awake. But he was so tired... “Tell... me...” he managed to croak out, “tell me what... happened...” “Um, well... you, you just appeared out of nowhere, like, like a shooting star or something, and you crashed into our backyard...” the man started explaining, gesticulating wildly to illustrate his words. “I, uh, I know this sounds crazy but, you kinda crash-landed right into our camp fire, and we had to, uh, drag your burning ass from the flames. I mean, have you ever heard of something like that, man? Where did you come from, did you fall from a plane or something?” He slowly tried to take in all that the man had said, tried making sense of it, but he didn't understand it more than the other. He blinked a few times, trying to stay awake. He fell...? Yes, there was something there that he remembered, the sensation of falling, falling through darkness... but why? Falling from where? He shook his head lightly in irritation and almost immediately regretted it as his head started to spin violently again. “I... I don't remember.. anything.”
There would follow a kind of coffeeshop AU-esque story with an amnesiac Loki serving Tony Stark coffee, who almost has a heart attack and a fit and then tries to figure out what happened together with Loki but I never got that far haha

“emmatony” is a little clunky for a ship name, I think we should call it frostiron instead :) it has a nice ring to it and it nicely illustrates how they’re different but also how they’re the same :)

For the WIP game I’m self destructive (and self important) and Beside my bed I keep a bottle of dreams
Thank you for the ask @scottxlogan!💕
I’m self destructive (and self important)
This is a FrostIron piece inspired by 2 random writing prompts given to me by @mischief-and-tea-by-the-sea a while ago. I've only got the skeleton in mind, so here's the summary that I'm working with:
When Loki extends a hand to help him, an Avenger, out of a sticky situation, Tony’s entire world starts spinning in reverse. Maybe because it’s Loki, Loki, Loki, the guy who’s sleek, an enigma, and an absolute challenge to wrap his mind around, but since then, Tony’s senses have been sparking with a different kind of energy.
Of course, it probably isn’t a good idea for him to try and impress Loki of all people, but in his defense, Tony isn’t exactly known for good ideas.
Beside my bed I keep a bottle of dreams
This would be a WolveSilver Criminal/Thief kind of AU written for the marvel rare pair bingo, for the prompt “In the back of a police car”. The only thing I have for this is an interaction written for the said prompt:
“It’s only illegal if you get caught,” the silver haired teen, who Logan is becoming increasingly certain is wholly driven by his impulse to steal, says.
“You got caught,” he feels the need to point out. “Yeah well, sometimes I want to be caught,” the kid, whose hands are no longer cuffed, thrusts out a hand in Logan’s face for a handshake, as if to illustrate his point. “I’m Peter, by the way.”
Hope you enjoy these snippets!

2022 Fic Roundup Meme
Word count for the year: 20.4k -- which, honestly, is a lot more than I expected! After writing near 50k in the span of a couple months at the end of 2021, I really had to take a mental health break and work at the pace my body and mind required. I'm hoping to/aiming for getting back to writing more consistently in 2023.
Number of stories posted to Ao3: Five stand-alone fic, with a couple chapter updates to my massive WIP Familiarity
Pairings written for: Zero, actually! Lots of friendship and gen/no-ship fics this year.
Fandoms I wrote for: UTDR and Marvel
Most popular story: Outside Familiarity, probably Making Promises, which I really, really love. I'm so glad people like that one, too
Story Im most proud of: dephasing, I think, was really tightly-written, especially for being in second person POV. I'm really pleased/proud with how that came together
Funniest: Probably Your Best (Study Buddy) -- lots of silliness and I really adore it
Kinkiest: n/a, I don't tend to write kink, and I haven't published any publicly
Saddest: dephasing, for sure :(
Least popular: Tire Swing, a modern Marvel AU with Hela and little brother Loki having a chat before Hela goes off to college. It's a little angsty (on Loki's part), but it was written as a character study and I do like how it came out. It's not the kind of story that gets many hits, though
By hit-count? Your Best (Study Buddy) -- it was published in the last quarter of the year, so it's still only a couple months old. Because it's part of a series, I think it kind of flies under the radar, even if it could technically work on its own
Favorite opening line(s): “I need you to die,” the kid had said. in Making Promises. Still love this fic. I love it! The interactions were so fun
Favorite closing line(s): “Chara’s the worst influence,” he growls as Frisk giggles, and he moves back onto the desk to finish the math where Frisk left off. from Your Best (Study Buddy). It's the culmination of Flowey and Frisk finding common ground, and the tentative start to their friendship. Flowey not clamming up, talking about Chara to someone else (it's a sensitive subject!), and even making good on trade which gives benefit to someone else (Frisk, getting their homework done, in exchange for information -- it makes sense in context)
Top scenes from anywhere you would choose to have illustrated: Anything from Making Promises (trying to keep details vague), and Frisk and Flowey chatting in Frisk's room. Chara and Asriel pouring over books on the floor in The Shop With No Name, looking at knick-knacks from the human world.
Story I haven’t yet written, but intend to: Reincarnating soulmate AU for Loki/Tony Stark that ties into the first Avenger movie. Tony reincarnates into a dog! It's very funny; I enjoy writing it, but again, 2022 was rough. I've had it on my plate for 5 years now. I also literally cannot find any dog!Tony fic? I've seen some where he's a cat, but really. Let's be honest: Tony's a dog.
Also more Frostiron fic -- I have a lot of half-finished concepts, in general.
Fic-writing goals for 2023: (1) Catch up on Familiarity Part 2, god. My beloved behemoth in the room. And with luck, before chapter 3-5 of Deltarune drops. (2) Finish up at least one unfinished WIP.
*Not tagging because I stole this from someone else untagged! I thought it would be nice to do on my own.

Loki and Tony have late-night talks in their room onboard the Dark Aster, which they sort of ended up acquiring after a long and complicated series of mishaps. Also Tony somehow ropes Loki into playing a confessions game revolving around eating really gross tasting edible cubes
I am so so excited to share this absolutely wonderful fanart the incredibly talented imyergoldfish created based on Chapter 49 of my fic. It was the best surprise ever and I’m still freaking out about how much I love it and I can’t stop staring at it because of the sheer amount of joy this gives me
*posted with their permission and please give them some love on their instagram since they don’t have tumblr

Fandom discourse and culture has changed a lot over the years and I always try to err on the side of caution whenever possible.
The reasons writers create and share their work are varied and diverse: maybe they're trying to improve their writing and welcome advice, sometimes it's all about the ~ S Q U E E ~ because you loved the show/character and wants them in more situations, sometimes the reason is the ~ R A G E ~ about the direction canon took and you plan to murder it and use it's blood to re-write the story; this is more an illustrative than exhaustive list and sometimes there'll even be multiple reasons at once of course.
And sometimes, those reasons do not match or go well with any type of criticism, even well intentioned, constructive ones.
I saw an post on Tumblr that ilustrated very well another reason why one shouldn't simply assume that con-crit is welcome: if you go watch an amateur performance (in the most literal sense of the word of non-remunarated, regardless of quality of performance), one won't immediately presume afterwards to go to the artist and start critiquing it.
At the same time, I wholeheartedly think that one of the most wonderful, unique possibilities of fandom is the capacity for collaborative work between the authors of a story that is being posted as it's written and it's readers, culminating in an end product with quality that ends up being more refined than otherwise it would've been.
That type of interaction is even sometimes one of the main reasons people write fics, to not only create something, but also to share the act of that creation.
That works almost like making all the readers of a fic into beta-readers and can be a wonderful thing, but the post argued that the work done by betas is analogous to editing in published works, and that such a relationship is based on built trust, so while yeah, that dynamic between writer and all their readers could work, assuming and simply barging in is generally more harmful than productive.
When I adopted that new reasoning, I debated whether or not I should then mark all my bookmarks on AO3 as Private and make them inaccessible to anyone else, but in the end opted not to, mainly because even though I mainly write them for my future self, I also feel other readers can benefit a lot from knowing how the experience of someone who liked a work enough to rec it went, specially if while reading that fic they stumbled upon things they didn't like.
If there's one thing I learned from over 15 years of reading fics is that my tastes change over the years, and sometimes it's not even about the quality of the writing itself or even the progression of how polemic subjects are treated at any given time, but rather the moment that I am in changes how I receive the same work, such that tagging a certain work as one worth reading again later with no contextual information on the vibe I was riding when I did that will inevitably lead to a disappointment that is frankly an overreaction on my part.
That happened somewhat recently with a Frostiron fic I read a long time ago, in a moment where I was squeeing like crazy over the pairing (and it was a work of squee, so we matched really well) and it got on my list, but years later, when I was feeling nostalgic over the pairing and went to read my list of besties, the expectation I had was so great that the dichotomy between my experience back then and the one in the re-read were terribly big, even though it was a well written fic, squee and all, and the only real difference was that *I* wasn't squeeing over the pairing anymore.
And at the same time, I found that, in a way, this managing of expectations I do primarily for myself when I create a rec with the bad points of a fic that I loved can also be helpful for others, because even if it doesn't fit 100% since we're different people, I always thought the best recs I've always found were the ones that stated what were the cons of any given story, because those cons might not be something that bothered me like it bothered them or it even might end up being somewhat bothersome to me, but the pros outweigh them and, because I went in expecting to find those things, there's no disappointment in it, so they end up bothering me a lot less then it could've.
The other reason I eventually settled on not making my bookmarks private was actually because of those authors that seek improvement and welcome constructive criticism from all the readers who are invested in their story and value their thoughts and experiences while reading their work, because while yes, better to err on the side of caution and not go offering advice and opinions were those are not wanted, if we let that completely rule everything we do in fandom there will be a lot of loss in regards of this constructive, dynamic and interactive aspect so characteristic and wonderful to this type of media.
I know authors can have access to the bookmarks made of their fics, but unlike comments, it's not quite a space exclusively dedicated to them or even for interactions between reader/author.
In a lot of aspects, I'd even go as far as saying it's a space primarily for readers: it's not something that will culminate in a email sent to the author's mailbox, it serves mostly for filtering and ordering purposes (like when you're looking for fics to read and apply a filter to show only fics with a certain number of bookmarks or to order the fics shown from the greater to the least number of bookmarks) and also so readers can, reading these bookmarks, have a better idea on what's to expect from a work from different readers with different personalities and world views and ways to pereceive what was written.
And since it's a space the author *can* have access to *if* they want, it's possible for them to look at that place to see that con-crit while, at the same time, not being a place where that con-crit will get shoved in their faces if they *don't want it* and as such it seemed to me to be an overall respectfull and good compromise between those two points that seemed very important to me, and one of the only way I've found of making it known if that type of interaction is welcome, I'd be happy to head over to their comments and talk there.
If I'm marking it as a rec and commenting, I'm doing it because I think that fic absolutely is one of the best stories that I had the pleasure to read; however, the number of characters allowed in a bookmark rec are limited, so if I end up putting into it anything besides an incoherent keyboard smash, those things are going to be whatever points I feel are very important to keep in mind whenever starting to read it so that reading experience is the most enjoyable possible both for my future self who's going to look at that besties list and decide on what to read again as well as first time readers who might have seen the rec and will go in knowing somethings that, by their nature, don't tend to be things we tag for; they will have mostly what amounts to con-crit, so if you welcome this type of interaction or if the rec I made is bothering you in anyway, I urge you to get in contact with me through the fic mail I linked in my AO3 profile.
This post is getting linked there because the profile section doesn't allow enough characters for everything that I had to say about the subject.
As soon as I see the email, I'll either be happy to either tag the bookmark as Private so it won't be visible to anyone but myself if it bothered you or head over to your comments section so we can talk better about the points I raised if this type of interaction is something you welcome.
