my langblr introduction! hallo!!
Tumblr media
age : 22 yo stress ball
name : klara (you can call me klar)
pronouns : she/them
my target language during the 2023 summer : german
languages i know : italian (advanced), chinese (beginner to intermediate, french (native), english (fluent) (i hope)
centres of interest : linguistics, politics, impressionism, arts and crafts, cinema, queer history
i'll post my german journey as much as possible. i'm going to live for at last one year in germany, so i need to get back to german and get better at german. like a lot of french high schoolers, i studied german as part of the compulsory course but did not actually enjoy it nor did i learn anything from it. so the main goal here is to reunite with my inner teenager and make peace with them ⁀➷
what i like to do when studying languages is journaling/writting in TL, revising lists of vocab and going through the grammar points one by one.
then, i'll look for podcasts in german and youtubers, radio broadcasts, free online newspapers and TV series so that i can practice my listening comprehension.
anyway, don't hesitate to interact, and if we share a common TL/language, get in touch, i love to make friends and getting to know more abt this world <33 also i don't wanna let my italian die, quindi raga, parlami in italiano!
see you soon! a presto, tschüss!ˏˋ°•*⁀➷

Hey, I started a language learning club at my local library so that there is a space for language learners to practice, share resources and be with like minded people. Made an eventbrite program for it so that it will be easier to share it.

as i near the end of the main story in cassette beasts, i had a few minor gripes with it but i think my biggest issue with the game is also kind of a compliment to it
i wish it had more writing. the game has a really interesting premise and world (that's almost frustratingly targeted at my tastes lol) and i think if anything it felt like it was scared to lean too far into it.
i dont blame it for not wanting to wear out its welcome or alienate people who were more interested in it for the gameplay! players are very harsh on the writing in indie games. but imo ... if you dont like to Read Text maybe rpgs arent the genre for you. i think cassette beasts would have felt deeper and more complete if it afforded itself the time to really delve into its ideas.

Perhaps a hot take but i dont think you should make fun of someone for their language/accent no matter how much you hate the country they come from

spelling english words that end in -est like -êt because the french ê being a replacement for es is so incredibly funny to me.

Im never happy with my progress in language learning. Especially when it comes to Russian. But it is always fun to see a random phrase in the wild and know what it means.

Ciao !! We’re finally on day 4! I had time today at work and I asked myself what my vocabulary list should be about ? So I searched for themes, the one that came first was “things in my room”. I find it very interesting to list everything that was in my room but finally I decided, the first, more obvious, was… Hotel lexical field !!! I am now working for 4 months in a hotel with people I love and I think this was actually a good everyday idea for proper communication with customers. I actually believe this is a good idea for people who want to book rooms, even if there is a problem with something, you will always have these words next to you. My native language is French and I know a lot of people are learning it so I decided to do a three version of this vocabulary; one in Italian, one in English and also one in French. if you think i made mistakes or if you think we can say anything else for some words, don't hesitate to say it ! <3

Did PB hire translators for the German versions of their books or...?
And if they did hire translators, did they hire native speakers?

season change is upon us, is there any outfit you're excited to bring back into rotation? colors you are partial to? how about accessories/shoes? If you don't live in a place with seasons (or a place with negligible seasonal change/just feel like answering smth else), what is your favorite outfit lately?
The weather hasn't transitioned to fall here yet, but the stores are rolling out Halloween stuff and pumpkin spice treats already 🎃
My wardrobe hasn't really rotated much in the last few years, since I've been stuck at home for 4 years now, with the pandemic hitting about 1.5 years into that. I don't spend a lot of time outside anymore and tend to dress according to indoor conditions. Also, I've never been one to change the colours of my clothes according to the seasons, I just wear whatever colours I feel like at that moment.
However, I did recently go to some outdoor drag shows and was able to dress for hot weather! I have a hard time finding shorts I like, so I usually wear short skirts or short dresses to stay cool. Due to EDS, I have venous insufficiency, where the veins in my legs struggle to pump blood back to my heart, which means I need to wear compression socks in the heat, but I'm still on the search for some that don't look awkward on their own (they're sheer so they don't quite look like socks, but they're knee-high so they don't look like stockings, either), so I always cover them with either knee-high socks or full-length leggings. I got new glasses a few months ago and I always get two pairs at a time, one pair that's colourful and one that matches all my outfits.
When I went to see Ilona Verley, I wore my yellow Pikachu shirt and a skirt from Rancid Yogurt that I can't find the product photo for, but it has the same print as these leggings:
Tumblr media
For accessories, I brought my tiny pink backpack, I wore a necklace that's silver with white gems on a star-shaped pendant, I had grey socks with bows on the outer sides, I had a light yellow floral-printed bow in my hair, and my mask was a pastel rainbow gradient. My shoes were what I usually wear, black Converse high-tops with white rubber and white stitching, since I like how they look, it's easy to find another pair whenever old ones need to be replaced, and the high tops are very supportive for hypermobile ankles. The makeup I wore was pink eyeshadow, pink lipstick, and pink glitter. I wore my new glasses that are yellow squiggles throughout clear plastic.
When I saw Saltina Shaker, I had 4 different plaids in my outfit in the form of a skirt that was black and white plaid, a hair bow that was a different black and white plaid, a mask that was red and black plaid, and a flannel shirt that was another type of red and black plaid. Under the flannel shirt, I was wearing the shirt I got at a Green Day concert that's black and white with a design of an American flag where the stripes are made of barbed wire. I'm not completely sure what accessories I had for this one, but I know I had socks that looked like skeleton legs, and I think I may have been wearing my ring that's silver with a grey gem and/or the black and red Green Day bracelet that I'd bought matching ones of for myself and my pen pal from grade 11 French class. I had the same pink backpack as when I saw Ilona, but I didn't have a bag that was fun and also matched this outfit, so I just went with the backpack. My makeup was red eyeshadow, red lipstick, and gold glitter. I wore my other new glasses that are transparent grey with a beveled look; I call them my crystal glasses because they look kinda like gems.
My physical health is finally getting better, so hopefully I can go outside and wear fun outfits more often again :)

If you're upset about duolingo firing it's translators, you should check whatever the equivalent to the BBC is for your target language (or the BBC if that language is English, but if your target language is English and you're reading this I think you're good) because a lot of major national news organizations have resources for learning their language. For example, DW has resources to learn German, NHK has resources for learning Japanese, TV5monde has resources for learning French. They're usually free (or at least, I haven't encountered one that's paid yet) and usually pretty comprehensive (though like with all language learning apps/websites def supplement it with other resources)
