A network of Russian marketing companies known for selling dubious nutritional supplements and pushing malware is behind a disinformation campaign to denigrate Western coronavirus vaccines, according to a new RFE/RL investigation. The revelations, which lead to a Moscow-based businesswoman active in pro-Kremlin political circles, add new insight into the campaign that targeted social media influencers in France and Germany, among other countries, and reportedly attracted the attention of French intelligence agencies. The woman, Yulia Serebryanskaya, is a veteran of political campaigns and event planning for the ruling United Russia party, and briefly ran as an independent for election in the Moscow city elections in 2019. She also heads an organization called Russian Initiative, which describes itself as a "worldwide union of Russian speakers" that "helps people carry on our culture and adequately represent our traditions, our social achievements, rather than tolerate a distorted idea of the Motherland, wherever they are." The disinformation campaign involving marketing companies adds a new dimension to Russia's murky, under-the-radar efforts to promote its own COVID-19 vaccines -- in particular the Sputnik V vaccine backed by the country's sovereign wealth fund, the Russia Direct Investment Fund.
Known as RDIF, the fund has aggressively promoted Sputnik V, extolling, and at times exaggerating, its benefits, while also openly criticizing Western vaccines such as Pfizer/BioNTech, AstraZeneca, and Moderna, and amplifying negative scientific results.

Belladonna of Sadness (1973) - REVIEW & DISCUSSION
Warning: this will be pretty long - so grab a cup of tea and some snacks!
I recently came across this piece of animation and after watching it and reading some articles, i gotta get somethings off my chest. I also would love to hear some interpretations/takes from you!
First of all I want to say that the film was a wild ride. Never before have I seen something like Belladonna of Sadness.
The movies artstyle is very unique, consisting of mostly still pictures, beautifully handpaintet in light and vivid colours - seemingly influenced by Egon Schiele or Klimt. The camera moves across the still painting and sometimes zoomes in to emphasize on details. When animation is used, it serves to underline powerful/important moments. The characters are stylized not in your typical anime-like manner but with more western features and very diverse.
The folky / prog rock jazz soundtrack, provided by a well nown avantgarde jazz artist at the time in japan, is very well done imo.
To the plot: In medieval feudal France the peasants Jeanne and Jean are deeply in love and want to get married. However, the Baron of the region demands the price of 10 cows to allow the wedding. Jean, being a lowborn farmer with only 1 cow, obviously cannot pay this price, so instead the Baron‘s wife suggests the baron should take jeanne in lieu. And so Jean is forcibly kicked out of the Barons castle and jeanne is raped by the baron and his court-men. Upon returing home to Jean the next morning, traumatized Jeanne and her husband want to forget the past and start all over again. However, Jean can barely take the humiliation and they are both very unhappy. At night jeanne is visited by a small, phallic shaped demon who offers her power in exchange fore sexual favours. Jeanne, accepts because she wants to make jean and her‘s life better. Soon jeanne is a very successful businesswoman and jean is put into the position of taxcollector by the Baron who needs money for his wars. A harsh winter and the high taxes makes it hard for Jean to collect enough money and to punish him the baron cuts off his hand. Meanwhile the barons wife, who grew envious of jeanne, her beauty and her new gained wealth, had spread the word that jeanne is obsessed by the devil and jeanne is chased by an angry and violent mob. She tries to flee to Jean into their house, but jean wouldn’t open up the door and jeanne is assaulted. Jeanne flees into the wilderness. Her clothes ripped from her body and at the end of her strengh she collapses. This is the moment the phallic demon, having grown in size, returns. He mocks Jeanne and now wants not only her body but also her heart and soul, which she formerly refused to give to him, in exchange for more power. Jeanne, broken and all alone finally accepts this deal and a wild row of sceneries that can only be described as a acid fuelled feverdream, enfoldes before the viewer as the pact is made. Jeanne is now a powerful witch, that heals the people of the town when the black death sweeps through europe and helps the people to live out their sexual desires, resulting in massive orgies etc. The baron and the priest, who is always on his side, start to realize the threat that Jeanne poses to their power and they want to make a deal with her. Jean visits Jeanne in the woods and tells her to return with him to the village, make a deal with the baron and live a simple farmer’s life with him and start again from 0. Jeanne, who still afterall loves jean, agrees and an intimate, romantic scene plays out as their love rejoices. When the two return to the baron‘s castle, he wants jeanne to share her knowledge in Healing with his alchemists and he offers to even make her and jean the highest nobles right under his position. Jeanne, however, refuses - and when the baron asks what she wants, she says she wants everything. The baron is enraged by this demand and in a fit of anger orders jeanne to be burned st the stake. While jeanne is being brought to the stake, the towns people, the priest, the baron are watching. Jean doesn’t look into jeannes eyes when she‘s strapped to the cross as if he gave up on their love. However, as soon as jeanne is set on fire jean retaliates and in his desperate attempt to save jeanne attacks the baron. He is killed immediately. The crowd watching this happen gets upset and angry at the baron but is immediately opposed by the soldiers of the baron. Jeanne finally burns to ashes on the cross but before she died the faces of all the peasants turn into jeannes faces. In the last view seconds of the film we can see the famous picture of the storm on the bastille and a text on black screen tells us that it were the women who stood at the front of the french revolution.
Now the interpretation: I really want to have a clear answer to how this piece is to be interpreted - wether it is a clear feminist film or just about exploitation under the cover of a deeper message - but I simply can‘t. This movie is a lot of things but it‘s not easy. I have to say that i don‘t like the amount of sexual violence where it is not necessary. It of course serves to further the picture of Jeannes unbelievable pain and total doom but i do think there would‘ve been different ways. The initial scene in the barons castle to me is unavoidable for the story to work because it serves as the gateway to jeannes trauma and pain that finally lead to her rise and fall and it also shocks the viewer beyond belief. I also respect how well done this scene is, it is extremely graphic and disturbing but at the same time very abstract. The way we see jeannes pure body being literally being ripped in half starting at her genitals and the deep red blood dripping out in the form of bats makes this scene something you‘ll never forget. It is such a strong image of the trauma sexual violence causes and also it robs the scene of any arousing/stimulating potential imo. It makes the viewer feel pity for jeanne, utterly disgusted and nearly physically ill. A horrible, yet very strong scene.
The phallic shaped demon is another problem i have with this movie. If one was to interpret the demon as a real, external force that interacts with jeanne in the form of a penis, it really takes away a lot of the feminist message, since jeanne literally submits to this embodiment of the patriarchy in order to gain power.
But i think there‘s a mor optimistic way of interpreting the narration: When the demon first visits jeanne he tells her he‘s always been with her and that he IS HER. So one might think that the devil is not some exterior force but actually a part of jeanne‘s personality (and every woman / person‘s really) that has been „demonized“ by society and the patriarchy. This also makes clear why she is very insecure and fragile at first but after having given her body, heart and soul to the devil aka the part of her that is repressed by the church and politics, she is very selfconscios and powerful. This can be seen as following: it takes you to commit everything you can give to resist the system that represses you in order to break out. After her complete union with the devil (the part of her that never was allowed to show by society and not even herself) she emerged with a completely different mindset as she sees through the lies and the falseness within the patriarchy of the baron and the church. In this state the devil looks at her and says in awe that she is even more beautiful than god. A Statement that carries a lot of weight when you think about it. It can also be seen as jeanne‘s triumph over a religion that has discriminated women for centuries. It is a powerful transformation especially considering that it was only possible after all the traumata had layed down her path and after she ran away and all alone she found herself within accepting her formerly demonized self and reuniting with nature as she lives alone in the woods. After this journey from being lost and an outcast to having found all the strength she needs within herself and nature, jeanne suddenly is very threatening to the cruel baron and his priest because they can no longer control her and the people of the town start to follow jeanne instead of the baron. Of course the patriarchy has not yet given up on their power and in their naive mindset of inherent superiority over a ,in their eyes, simple woman, they try to coax jeanne into a deal that would basically return the power to them because they would never, not even now that jeanne is so powerful, expect a woman to turn down such a seemingly nice offer. But jeanne sees through the lies of the baron and the priest and understands that there‘s no way in bargaining with the baron that would not eventually lead to the status quo of the patriarchy again. Thus she calmly yet fiercely turns down the ever-growing offers of the baron and when asked what she wants even metaphorically says: everything. Everything in a sense of everything, be it as little as it will, has to be changed an turned upside down in an attempt to reform society and rid the world of the cruel patriarchy. As the baron realizes he stands no chance he foolishly orders jeannes burning in his rage and thus sets his own downfall. To further the extent of jeannes triumph it has to be added, that the love of her life, jean in the last moments of both of their lives recognizes his failure in supporting her and finally fully turns against the baron and tries to safe jeanne. Even though of course the attempt is not successful and he gets brutally killed immediately this is a very strong symbol: the relationship of jeanne and jean was very tainted after the initial rape and did not really start to heal until jeanne has transformed and just fully recovered when jean realized that it was the one love of his life that is burning so wrongfully there on the cross. It shows that not even the most viscious and cruel of deeds can kill true love. Yes it may taint it and harm it for a while but it never fully extinguishes it.
Jeannes life ends not on a happy note for sure. But in can end in Dignity and Triumph. Jeanne in her final moments sees that jean still loved her through all the misery and also she notices in her last dying breath that something is starting to change as the people of the town are finally starting to open their eyes. They finally see the tragedy of a young woman who had to go through unimaginable misery and pain just because she was a woman. The excruciating doom of a husband who had lost his wife twice, first to the baron and then to the flames just because he was born poor. They start to see that the baron was fearing jeanne’s power and that he is not the one who has the power to govern but it‘s their free will that moves the tides. And as they start to grasp this reality, their faces turn into Jeanne‘s. The fate of this woman, though full of misery and pain, served a purpose - her suffering beyond comprehension was cruel but not for nothing - it implanted a seed into each strong willed peasant and that seed would grow, spread it‘s leaves to the sun and Finally break through the thick dry ground like a flower growing on a tiny crack in a concrete wall. It would lead to the French Revolution and further to the liberation and enforcement of women’s rights today.
This interpretation is fitting for women but also it can be projected on every form of repression under a authoritarian system and is thus highly relateable for many of us.
Rsumée:
Belladonna of Sadness is a very unique movie and i think with in the right perspective it holds a lot of beauty and power, though being very dark. I am certainly not happy with the at times oversexualizing and overly exploitative and violent nature of the film. Still the movie to me is never arousing. The story itself wheighs very heavy and is absolutely no light watching. It is filled with nudity, death, sexual violence and a very heavy sense of doom and misery. If you are sensible to depictions of sexual violence i would absolutely NOT recommend this movie. Also for the normal viewer, looking for something for a chill sunday evening, this movie is not suited. However if you have a strong stomach, are unafraid to shed a tear or two and are interested in a somewhat philosophical and very artistically beautiful piece of animated-fim history with a very interesting Soundtrack - give Belladonna of Sadness a chance!

Chapter 2: Cake and Other Stuff
Kamilah x MC (written in second person perspective like in Choices)
1101 words
A/N
I don't own these characters. They are the property of Pixelberry Studios.
Warnings: None. Extra sweet and fluffy.
Tag List:
@kamilah-is-queen @samanthadalton @somethindarker @witchesplayatnight @danna-min-sinclair @mrs-avamontjoy @hellyeah90sbaby @glowriter @blaine-hayes
It is a good thing, Kamilah knows all of the ways to evade reporters. After all, she watched as the ginormous city grow up all around her. She knows every single spot.
“Seriously, I am way too stoked to be trying out the cakes.” Your fingers twitch on top of her hand.
“Your excitement is almost contagious.” She laughs softly. It is a sound of pure joy and happiness.
You bring her hand up and kiss her knuckles, “That is because you are just as excited, Kamilah. Admit it.”
She rolls her eyes, shaking her head, that mirthful grin never leaving her face.
“Any case, we’re here.” She pulls into an alleyway behind one of the best bakeries in Manhattan. It is called Sweet Little Bites.
“My humor is rubbing off on you, Kamilah. This is perfect.” You laugh at that.
“What can I say? After a while you get used to it and then time after that, you just embrace it.” She wraps an arm around your waist.
“Very funny, my heart.” You press the backdoor’s doorbell.
The door slowly opens to reveal a tall slender man, “Ah. Right. Ms. Sayeed and soon to be Mrs. Sayeed.”
You both pick up on his nervousness. You’re his first vampire couple. He thinks you both would rather eat him instead of his cakes.
“If you’re uncomfortable, you don’t have serve us.”
Kamilah frowns at your words, but nods her head slowly in agreement.
“We’re well fed, mostly drink from blood bags and we require consent before we feed.”
“We’re more interested in your cakes, than your blood. You come highly recommended by my business associates and friends.” After all this time together, this is the first time you seen her actually talk shop. Like business shop.
You can feel him getting way less uneasy, “No. I want business with you, I am serving one of the richest couples in the cities, and you’re my first vampire—” He stops a second, “—that I know of. Please come in.”
He gives you a wide berth, so that you can walk in together.
“You came to the right place for all things different and delicious.”
You lick your lips at the thought.
“That sounds very good, Mister Demarco.” She is still down to business and you love it.
“Please call me John.”
“Alright, John.” You say, following him to a small little dining room setting, for taste testing.
He quietly excuses himself and returns with a cart with several samples of cake.
“This is such a treat.” He excitedly claps his hands together; he is way more at ease with the two of you now.
“Vanilla-Orange cake, with orange peel zest cream cheese frosting. Made with imported Grand Marnier cognac.”
All he had to say is: cognac and that would be enough for Kamilah. Her second love to you is alcohol.
You let her take a bite first. You’re surprised by the soft ‘mm’ that escapes out of her mouth, Before she chews and swallows even!
She definitely likes it. You can’t wait to dig into your own slice. The citrus notes aren’t tart, but not too sweet. The cognac brings out the orange. It is strong but not overbearing. “It really pops in your mouth.”
“Mm.” Kamilah is too distracted wanting to finish the slice. Wow. She REALLY likes it.
“Put that on the list of definitely.” You say, and you’ve never seen her nod her head so emphatically.
“I’ve had clients say this next cake really enhance their honeymoon night.” John says, happier to introduce the next cake.
You and Kamilah give each other curious looks, with knowing smiles. Any little thing to bring more passion to your lovemaking is a HUGE plus.
“Dark chocolate cake with cabernet curd made with freshly picked raspberries with a French buttercream. A bite full of goat cheese as a garnish.”
You are pretty sure you never had cabernet curd and surer you don’t know what it is, but you sure as hell want to try it.
Kamilah lets you be the first to try. The taste of the flavors blend in richly. You know exactly what the cabernet curd is and you roll your eyes as it hits like a splash across your taste buds.
“The Cabernet Sauvignon curd washes away the cake like a whole glass!”
“What?” Kamilah never looked like a child in the candy store before now and she hurries to take a bite.
“Oh. God.” You are almost jealous that this cake might give her an orgasm. You’ve never seen her excited over human food before.
“Definitely.” She says lashing the cream away off her lips with her tongue.
John is enjoying your reactions and claps delightedly at you both.
“This is my spiked red velvet.” He practically hops on his feet to serve you each a little slice. “Old school red velvet with amaretto cream cheese frosting.”
Kamilah lets out a sharp breath of pleasure and she hasn’t even tried a slice.
You both dig in at the same time. “Did I die? Am I in heaven? Marrying the most beautiful woman in the world, trying the best cakes in the world? John pinch me!”
He pinches your shoulder and isn’t afraid to do so.
It hurts but you don’t say ow.
“Definitely not a dream! This is better than a dream!” You and Kamilah clink the ends of your forks together.
“For this next one—personal fave—is the coffee cream wedding cake. The icing is coffee meringue buttercream. The cake itself is made with an espresso Kahlua ganache, with a bite of hazelnut mousse over a chocolate torte for garnish.”
The thought that hits both of your minds, shared: the night you fought playfully over that slice of tiramisu. The night your wife to be decided that she would take you in and protect you.
This little slice is devoured faster than the others and you share a thought with Kamilah.
Being the businesswoman, you let her speak up, “We’ll have all three. The coffee cream, the big bottom tier, the dark chocolate the middle, and the top with the orange. And the garnish.”
“ALL the garnish.”
“Great!” He claps for the both of you. You really like this guy.
Kamilah pulls out her top tier credit card for him to take. “Oh. My. Mama. I love to watch you spend money, Kamilah.”
She rolls your eyes and pats your hand.
As you walk out the door, your phone rings. It is a different ring tone. “Uh…” You look down at your caller ID. “It’s my dad…”

Chanel No. 5 a century of an iconic fragrance born from an orphanage

For iconic brands, such as for example Chanel No. 5, it isn't just the perfume being sold: it is also the annals , a brief history enhanced by the bittersweet quality of nostalgia in the ways our brains link scent and memory. No.5 and tomorrow Coco Chanel's focus remained on fashion, running Chanel Couture until her death in 1971. In 1924, she had handed control of the distribution and production of most Chanel cosmetics and fragrances to her business partner, the venture capitalist Pierre Wertheimer. Wertheimer launched the business's perfume branch, Les Parfums Chanel in that year. It has created a lot more scents, but none as enduring or popular as Chanel No. 5.
