Kitty!!!
Howdy, folks. In case you haven’t already heard, I adopted a cat last week from a local shelter. Her name is Taffy, and here she is:
As you can see, I’ve had her for less than a week, and I’ve already taken too many photos. She is a lovebug, but she’s playful too. She has the sweetest little meow. She’s about 3 1/2 years old.
And I will mention that I did win a couple of Virginia Press…

Hodgepodge of randomness
Hello! A random slew of things have happened since the last time I’ve posted.
First off, I did get good news. I went to my rheumatologist yesterday. If you recall, last summer I had some bad liver test results. Well, the last two sets of tests turned out fine. So, I’m staying on the same medication. And I found out that I did not gain as much weight as I thought I did over the holiday season.…

Happy Thanksgiving eve eve eve eve ........
Happy Thanksgiving eve eve eve eve ……..
Howdy, folks. Hoooooweeeeeee, I am still full from yesterday. My mom cooked up her always fabulous Thanksgiving dinner, and I ate wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much, like always.
We had ham (neither of us like turkey), which is made the way my grandma made it, with a ketchup, mustard and brown sugar coating. SO GOOD. And the ham and bean soup that my mom makes with the leftovers is just so amazing…

Some ramblings
Hiya, folks! I’m on day three of my three-day weekend. It’s been quite relaxing and busy at the same time.
First, our lawn mower broke. It broke before, and we went and got it fixed. Then it broke again, so we said “forget it” and bought a new one this week. The cost would have been more than just getting a new mower. So, I put it together and played with the new toy Tuesday, when it was so…

Ready for a staycation
Ready for a staycation
Howdy, folks. I’m wicked excited today! After my shift today, I have nine days off from work! Yayyyyyy! I have lots of plans, pretty much all of which involve being at home, of course.
Well, I’ll start off by saying that I hit 29 pounds today. I am now 11 pounds away from my first weight loss goal. I think I finally feel comfortable saying that when I started this in February (with a few…

That old feeling
Hey, everyone! I’m feeling a bit old today. Why? Well, my niece is now a teenager. Thirteen years old. The big 1-3. Shew. I remember the day she was born, and now she’s 13.

Happy birthday to my niece!
So many things have happened in those 13 years. I remember I quit my job in Lynchburg when I found out my sister was pregnant so I could move closer. My…

So many temptations when dieting
So many temptations when dieting
Howdy, folks. I’m going to start off by saying my legs feel like jello, but that just means the bike rides are giving me a good workout. I still can’t do hills, but I know I will get there eventually. I kept my balance much better today, especially after I lowered the bike seat.
Now, onto the diet! Well, I did hit 28 pounds today, so I’m closing in on 30 finally. First goal, though, is 40…

Finally, some progress
Hi! I’m really excited today. For the first time, I have finally noticed some progress with exercising.
So, yesterday afternoon, I did some yard work. I trimmed a bunch of trees and took all of the branches from the bottom of the back yard up the hill to the road. I took about eight trips with a wheelbarrow and three trips with just armfuls of branches. Well, I almost got heat exhaustion. That…

Feeling nostalgic
Hello! It’s been a while, but I’ve actually been busy.
It’s spring, so I’ve been doing yardwork. And I’m fully vaccinated, so I’ve been getting out of the house. I went shopping a couple times, and I absolutely missed that.
I went to WalFart the other day, just because, and I encountered all of the typical WalFart things, like crazy rednecks, people in the way, screaming children, etc. I even…

Freeeedommmmmmm, finnnaaallllyyyyyy!
Howdy, y’all! OK, so maybe that headline is a bit dramatic — or unreadable (translation: Freedom, finally). But for the first time in a year, I feel free. The self-isolation that started March 17, 2020, will finally be over starting April 7, 2021, as I have gotten the COVID-19 vaccination.
I got the Pfizer one. For the first shot, I felt a bit sluggish after, and my arm hurt a bit. But it wasn’t…

Marking one year
Hello! Today marks one year since I started isolating at home due to the coronavirus. I can’t remember what I ate for dinner last night, but I will never forget the week this all started.
MARCHOne year ago, on March 16, I had an eye doctor appointment. I remember the news becoming more and more dire about the new virus. I remember being worried about going, but I hadn’t been to the eye doctor in…

I can't believe it
I can’t believe it
Howdy! Well, I have some great news.
Back in January, I signed up on a wait list in Virginia for the COVID-19 vaccine. It didn’t seem like I would ever get one. And it’s been very confusing as to how to get one.
But last Saturday, I got a call from the local health department. They scheduled my first COVID shot! Virginia opened vaccinations March 1 to the group I’m in — 18-64 with underlying…

Toasty hands and poofy pillows
Toasty hands and poofy pillows
Yo! What’s up? I have some silly news to share. I may have mentioned in the past that I won some stuff online a couple months ago. Well, the items are taking a long time to get here, which is fine, since none of it is urgent or anything. A couple more things arrived this week.
I got these amazing hand warmers for working! My hands are so TOASTY!
These things are so dang adorable.
I also got…

Spring fever
Hello! Finally, after months of craptastic days filled with snow and freezing cold, we had a nice day here today!
Not only that, but it actually was on my day off! That never happens. It was in the 60s here today and sunny, and I had so much energy. I did yard work, fixed a toilet, did laundry, swept the porch and did some general cleaning. It’s the most activity I’ve been able to manage in a…

Sing it with me: Oh whoa whoa, I got those winter blues …
Hello! It’s still winter. And this has been quite a wintry winter. Last winter, it was really mild, and we didn’t have much snow at all. This year, though, it has snowed a million times, including last night. It’s still snowing today.
Granted, we haven’t gotten a lot of accumulation (knock on wood), but the fact that it’s snowed so many times means it’s freezing outside, and that SUCKS. Right…

2020 hindsight: Part two
2020 hindsight: Part two
Hello! I was going to make this hindsight summary just one post, but man, I really don’t know how to shut up. So many words! Hahahaha, so here’s part two. (Part one here)
July: I set up my blog on June 30, but I really didn’t get into it until July. And I loved it. People actually read it! Unreal. It was therapeutic. It was freeing. I did get a bit ambitious by writing an entry every day, but…
