I have some sad news and need help as a result
So, to those who follow me and were aware, I fostered two dogs back in August this year with my mother. One of them, my mother adopted (rip me). The other got adopted.
Her name is Lady.
Lady went missing for a week literally minutes after being adopted. She found the one bit of fencing that she could scramble up and over of her adopters home. For five days, she hid in woods and streets surviving as best she could, using her experience as a street dog for two years in Bosnia.
We eventually found her and she came to me because she recognised my voice and the song I sang to her. This was both miraculous and unsurprising. She knew my mother and I and had bonded with us in her month with us in our home. Prior to being with us, she had been in kennels and on the streets.
Her adopters have had to make the difficult decision to return her to the rescue due to a number of reasons, none of which are in their control. Their current dog is very big and young. He wants to play and be around her all the time. Lady does not. Before she went missing for a week, she was much better situated for such a reality. After a week of being alone and reverting back to survival instincts, she isn't.
My mother and I can't afford to have another dog. Financially and also mentally for me from the stress. Regardless, we're going to foster her again because she's most comfortable with us and Marley and Troy.
It's going to be hard.
I'm going to make a wishlist of things that we'll need for her (and the other dogs, since I don't doubt that they will also use and attach themselves to her) as well as try to give updates as regularly as I can. I'll add the wishlist link to a reblog when I've made it. It will likely be on amazon, unfortunately, since its the best for this.
Right now, however, our main issue to travelling to collect Lady. We just don't have the fuel to do so at this moment. I always hate asking for help with anything but this, right now, is something I need to do for Lady's sake. I will do anything I need to for an animal.
If you have anything to spare that can help us get fuel, food for her, a bed etc, it will be Greatly Appreciated [first link is my PayPal, second is my Ko-Fi].
If you don't and can't safely spare anything (do not put yourself out, that won't help you and I don't want you to suffer please), then reblogging this post and tagging it is fine.
It is all appreciated. No matter what.
Her adopters are willing to have her back again if her trauma is lessened and she can interact better with their dog but, as always, what's best for Lady and avoiding any conflict between her and their dog is the priority. They're not confident they can help her when she's had so much trauma in her life. At least with us, she's familiar with Troy and Marley and trusts my mother and I. That puts us in a better position to help Lady and rehabilitate her.
This is all just an unfortunate situation and no one is to blame here. The focus is on what's best for Lady.

In Washington County, MD: Daisy- 4-year-old spayed female
Poor Daisy has had such bad luck over the holidays. She was brought to The Humane Society through no fault of her own when her owner was put into hospice care. This poor girl is understandably so stressed at the thought of being alone, as she has been returned to us twice. She is anxious when left alone, especially when in the crate, and loves to sing to your neighbors to announce her presence. She would love to be the only animal in a home where she can build confidence and trust after her difficult ordeal.
If you can help by giving a home, foster or rescue for Daisy, please contact:

Good things about Elliot:
- He is extremely food motivated.
- He's not sure how toys work, but he loves to steal Nelly's toys to chew on them.
- He's really fun to train. For now, his thoughts on training are "what's the highest I can jump to get to you/the treat" but the motivation is great.
- He sleeps well in his crate and it turns out, he's better at being without me / in his crate if someone is with him in the room, even if that someone is Bean. Not a miracle solution, but a start.
- He's intense about trying to greet Bean, but he's friendly to her.
- He's super cuddly. He loves to lay on my neck/chest/whole body and sleep there or chew a chew.
- He loves people. He *annoyingly* loves strangers, which is exactly what I want in a dog.
- He does not seem to have noticed Nelly. Or if he did, he doesn't care.
- Only 24 hours here and he's already marking in the house signicantly less.
- He's very birdy. I don't have any plans to hunt, but I wonder if there's a way I could replicate what he loves about birds without real birds.
- I had to take him with me to a pet store (I'm aware it's not great, but I had nowhere else to leave him) and he thought it was great because 1) PEOPLE and 2) nice things to smell.
- I don't know how much grooming he had before me (it's possible that he was groomed before but is confused because of different tools, set up, etc.) but he was good at letting me get weird plant things from his hair.
🌟 Bonus mention for Bean who, surprisingly, was happy to meet him from the start and is basically unbothered by him as long as she has space. Very proud of her ❤️

Step one: Complete!
Tumblr media
The girl finished her first stage of heartworm treatment today! She's finished with day 30 of doxy and pred, and capped today off with a visit to the shelter for Heartguard, flea topical, and a weigh in. Everything looks good, and they say her breathing sounds fine. Our foster coordinator also checked in how we're liking the heartworm life and i think its working very well for us.
Up next is 30 days of ramping down her activity before the first injection of melarsomine!
If anyone has any suggestions to keep crate rest from getting to us, let me know. So far she's turned out to be VERY smart and trainable, plus a FIEND for the kong wobbler

Our foster puppy Charlie had his second and third heartworm treatment! He was very brave and his buddy Eureka provided good moral support. Our resident pup Idgie is happy to have  "her" boys home and everyone is resting comfortably now. We are looking ahead to 6-8 weeks of strict rest, but luckily Charlie is a chill guy who loves to cuddle, and we are entering hibernation season here in New England anyway!

I’m fostering a new dog who’s a neglect/abuse case. She’s 20 pounds but should be about 35. She’s an absolute sweetheart and my job is just to feed her for three weeks straight. But my actual dog, Alfie, is not happy that he’s not an only child anymore. She’s so submissive, but he is determined to intimidate despite being a third of her size. The amount of effort it took to get to this couch detente is… well, it was a lot.
But they’re very cute.

In Baltimore City, MD: 4 y/o very trusting and cooperative sweetheart seeking rescue after likely being hit by a car - BARCS, Baltimore MD
- Rescue Needed -
Auburn- 4 years, unaltered female, 51lbs
4-year-old Auburn was brought to the shelter by a Good Samaritan after being found stumbling in the road, urinating, defecating, and having difficulty walking.
Once in our care, our vets quickly got to work examining and caring for Auburn. They noted that she was in shock and had absent proprioception in the hindlimbs. X-rays revealed a complete, comminuted, displaced fracture of the left pelvis. For now, she has been started on pain meds and strict crate rest, and a full medical summary can be provided upon request.
Despite what she's been through, Auburn has been incredibly trusting and cooperative with staff and handling so far, and has been doing well in her crate, too.
Auburn is currently on stray hold until 4/4, and due to her injuries, we are seeking rescue placement for her ASAP.
Please let us know if your organization can help!
Thank you,
The BARCS Rescue Team

Took foster houndy on a walk, in 7 days she gets spayed and in 10 days she’s on to a quarantine home before getting transported to a bloodhound rescue in NY. I mentioned she’s not really a bloodhound but evidently they are okay with that.
