Ich liebe dich, Claus 🐟 #fossile #fossiles #fossil #fossils #fossilcollector #fossilcollection #fishfossil #diplomystus #paleontology #eocene #eocenefossil #cabinetdecuriosités #cabinetofcuriosities #cabinetofcuriosity #geology #geologyrocks #ammonite #ammonites #old #earthtreasures #prehistory #prehistoric #cenozoic #collection #oldstuff #whenigrowupiwanttobeapaleontologist #prehistoricfish #prehistoricanimals #fossilsarefamily #talktomyprehistoricfish https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm9LlMHNZlI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
2. They ranged from as small as an inch to as large as nine feet wide! 📏
3. The walls that separate the chambers you see within the coiled shell are called “septa”, which functioned to help keep the shell from being crushed.
2 scallops, a sea urchin, and a geode all within a couple feet of each other! I came across this Walnut formation exposure (with literally millions of oyster fossils) while out looking for new calcite/celestite spots west of Austin. I'll share more info on my other recent finds in future posts. Happy hunting! 🐚⛏ #fossils #crystals #geode #geology #paleontology #fossilhunter #cretaceous #marine #animal #austin #texas #atx #calcite #hiking #outdoors #rockhound #fossicking #nature #science #fossilcollector https://www.instagram.com/p/BtgjbF7AcZ8/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=vz3ab2fo5k0y

Placenticeras meeki Ammonite, is an ammonite species from the Late Cretaceous. These cephalopods were fast-moving nektonic carnivores. The name "ammonite", from which the scientific term is derived, was inspired by the spiral shape of their fossilized shells, which somewhat resemble tightly coiled rams' horns.
This type of fossil appeared, (circa 409 million years ago (Mya)) and became extinct shortly after the Cretaceous (66 Mya). 🔥 See rare and unusual collectibles at 🔥 Busacca Gallery 🔥
