How all-electric, solar-and-battery-powered community works

Each home in the microgrid community will come fitted with the following:

SunPower Equinox solar system

A 13 kWh SunVault battery storage

Rheem® ProTerra® hybrid electric heat pump water heater

Carrier® high-efficiency two-stage heat pump

Schneider Electric D Energy Center Smart Panel

Individual solar panels will harness energy from the sun and then store it in powerful batteries to serve as backup. In addition, community solar panels are connected to a 2.3 MW battery to complement the network’s power supply.

On top of this, all houses will come equipped with electric wiring for EV charging, while some homes will feature Wallbox chargers. Homeowners can enroll in SunPower’s Virtual Power Plan (VPP) program, which allows them to utilize their EV chargers, battery storage, and other energy solutions to balance the grid load while demand is highest automatically.

Over 200 all-electric homes will be solar-powered, with added battery storage while connected to a community microgrid. As a result, the communities are power-outage resistant, according to SunPower, serving as a model for the future of home development(..)

The Swedish capital now has a plan in place to ban gas and diesel cars in part of the city beginning in 2025, according to Bloomberg. The ban is going to begin in a 20 block area around the capital's finance hub, the report says.

The same area also houses the city's main shopping attractions. It'll only allow "electric cars, some hybrid trucks and fuel cell vehicles", the report says, citing rules reported by SVT that will be presented mid-week(..)

P.S. One more reason to ditch fossil fuel vehicles...It looks like a fairly rich area of ​​the city and for the majority of residents there, new electric cars are not such an expensive purchase, especially considering that around 2024, several new electric cars will enter the European car market at much more affordable prices such as the Volvo EX30...

More recently, the annual capacity from gas plants coming online has plateaued while retirements are slowly increasing. Aging plants and state clean energy goals are certainly helping that trend. But we’ve also reached the point where the economics of renewables are just much better. On a levelized cost basis (a fancy term for the average cost of electricity over the generator’s lifetime), utility-scale renewables are cheaper and those costs keep going down(..)

Before the war in Ukraine, the EU solar energy market was expected to increase around 33 GW per year according to last year’s analysis by Statkraft. Now, in the new 2022 analysis, the company published an estimated average yearly increase of solar capacity in the EU of between 45 and 52 GW by 2030. Solar power is more cost-efficient than other renewable energy technologies, and construction can take less than two years.

Solar power is seen as the biggest winner in the energy transition. According to the report, it will become the world’s largest source of power generation around 2035(..)

The war started by the Russians in Ukraine against Europe and the West will significantly accelerate the collapse of the fossil fuel industry.  It is clear to practically everyone that fossil fuels are NOT a safe and reliable energy source and that replacing them with other energy sources as soon as possible is in the interests of European security and economic well-being...

As we have reported, seven Chinese vehicles became candidates for the Car of the Year in Europe 2024 with a 25% share among 28 contenders. The list of Chinese cars comprised BYD Atto 3 (Yuan Plus), BYD Han, BYD Dolphin, BYD Seal, Nio ET7, Smart #1, and Volvo EX30. However, only two Chinese vehicles made it to the list of finalists: BYD Seal and Volvo EX30.

P.S. If the increase in the use of renewable energy sources was not so good in the USA, then the consequences of the war started by the Russians in Ukraine and their blackmail of the European gas market would be even worse.  Since the beginning of the 2000s, the Russians planned to use the natural gas monopoly as a weapon of attack against the West...However, politicians in Germany and several other European countries ignored all the warnings and evidence of the threat posed by the Kremlin. 

Fortunately, US energy companies did not succumb to the Kremlin's tempting offers to export GAZPROM’s natural gas to the US...
