'Getting Back' 🐚 What or where do you want to get back to? Here is my self-portrait reference photo and final painting about getting back to the Isle of Man - celebrating home & belonging. ❤🇮🇲 The story behind the painting? I painted it years ago whilst I lived near London and was planning to move to the Isle of Man, a place where I had spent a lot of time as a child. It's hard to describe in words (which is partly why I painted it), but I was exploring the pull we feel to places and how some places feel like home and other don't. How we can feel we 'belong' to geographical locations and in or out of nature. I'm aware many people have moved recently or are planning to, if that applies to you I hope you feel settled in your new place & it feels like home. I love painting people! ❤🎨 Back in my early art education I had the option to study under a portrait artist or continue with formal art education, I chose the latter & went on to art college and university. I've been thinking it's funny how that choice took me on a different path though I've probably ended up at a similar destination! ❤ This painting was painted during strict Covid restrictions so I didn't meet the sitter face to face during the portrait creation, we had an interview-chat on the phone and she took photos for me to work from.
