I'm constantly watching videos on local mushrooms, reading mushroom guides for my own area and in my own language, and then I go to the forest all filled with knowledge, and every single time the forest is full of mushrooms I've never seen or heard about. Here's some of them I'm very curious about! If anyone has a guess I would love to have any info!
Tumblr media
So this mushroom was everywhere in the forest, I found about 40 of them, and the tops are olive green in color. Based on everything I know, I assume it's Russula heterophylla (Greasy green brittlegill), the brown-green edible mushroom, but I don't know how to be absolutely sure. I don't want to eat it without verifying. It's also very similar to Russula virescens, which is edible, but has scales on the top. The mushroom on the picture has a completely smooth top, except for all of the bites!
Tumblr media
2. These look like actual corals in the forest! I looked up coral mushrooms, and I feel like it could be Ramaria botrytis, but again, I'm unsure, I wonder if there's a way to tell for certain! Are all coral mushroom edible, or are some poisonous?

3. These tiny adorable mushrooms were growing in pair and they gave me an experience I've never had before: they smell like CANDY. I smelled one and it was fruity, acidic, sweet, it smells like a ground cherry! Lightly pineapple-ish, but more acidic, I was shocked to experience a smell like that from a mushroom! I took one home to take better pictures, I would love to now what it is.
Tumblr media
4. This mushroom is just too pretty. I couldn't resist taking it. It is perfect in every way. Looks like a penny bun except underneath it has gills. Have no clue what it is, but the aesthetic is perfect. It doesn't smell very appetizing; the only thing I can compare the smell to is a worn shoe. Would love to know what this is.

5. The looks of this mushroom just got me; it's growing on the top of a fallen tree, and the top so cracked! I've seen cracked mushrooms before but this one is all cracks. I've read that sometimes mushrooms end up cracked if they grow too fast and the skin on the top can't accommodate rapid growth. There's big ants walking underneath, and it has big gills. Would love to point at this mushroom and say its name.
(if you have those fancy mushroom-id apps and can use them with these pictures, that would be amazing, because my phone is 10 years old and does not support apps, and google lens refuses to work on web)

Legends and myths about trees
Children of the tree - Treasures of the forest
Mushrooms are known in Japanese as ‘Kinoko’ literally translated as 'children of the tree'. It just so happens to grow in forests, at the base of trees or on old fallen trees. When you come across a fresh tree cub, you will feel as if you have discovered a treasure. Quite a few people are rather particular about tree cubs in the forest.
Many animals other than people eat mushrooms. Squirrels and other animals are known to dry mushrooms on the tips of tree branches and use them as winter food. Numerous insects also eat mushrooms. Slugs and snails also often use mushrooms as food.
Mushrooms are either edible, toxic, or psychoactive. Those edible ones are rather nutritious, being rich in B vitamins, vitamin D and minerals.
Mushroom yokai monsters are traditional to the west Japan. These yokai monsters are said to be found in mountains and forests, and look like children of about three or four years of age, wearing clothes made of leaves or blue-coloured clothing. When humans see them, they look like shadows and it is not clear whether they are there or not. They are the mountain forest version of kappa (Ref).
They usually play in groups. They are often seen by loggers and people working in the mountains, and are said to be not so unusual for them. However, if they are not careful, they can play tricks on them, such as stealing their lunch boxes, and in such cases they are said to chase them away with a stick.

The Quest for Buddhism (114)
Buddhist cosmology
Anapanasati - "mindfulness of breathing"
Anapanasati (Skt.anapanasmrti), meaning "mindfulness of breathing" that "sati" means mindfulness; "anapana" refers to inhalation and exhalation, paying attention to the breath. It is a type of cessation (samatha meditation Ref) in which consciousness is calmed and focussed by being aware of the in-breath and out-breath (breath), or counting breath. In a broader sense, it moves from there to the observation of the body and includes the area of contemplation (vipassana meditation), which corresponds to the 4 presences of mindfulness (Pali: cattaro satipatthana), that is one of the seven sets of thirty-seven qualities (Ref2).
It is the quintessential form of Buddhist meditation, attributed to Gautama Buddha, and described in several suttas, most notably the Anapanasati Sutta.
Derivations of anapanasati are common to Tibetan, Zen, Tiantai and Theravada Buddhism as well as Western-based mindfulness programs.
