A story is a braid. And when you're starting out writing, it is easiest to think of things happening one after the other, but the more you do of it, the more you start to understand: the damn things overlap.

#foreshadowing is just catching a glimpse of another strand of the braid while you're focusing on the one strand #everything that needs to happen to build up to the big moments can and should be happening at the same time> #<as everything that needs to happen to build up to the OTHER big moments #so you can have those moments all come one right after the other (or even at the SAME time) and knock the reader off their feet #rather than getting a drawn-out rise and fall and rise and fall and #it sounds really difficult and it is if you're just starting out and thinking about it abstractly #but I've found asking myself 'what do each of these characters want and how is what they're doing going to help get it' #and 'how can these two things i need to build up to two different Big Moments be combined' #have really cracked it for me in the past #writing #it's late; I'm loopy; does this make any sense #have been thinking about this because I've been laying out the last few chapters of the tkaa sequel scene by scene #think we're gonna have about 13 or 14 chapters for this one when all is said and done
