more substantive thing about Glass Onion and then i think this is all my thoughts: i really liked something i feel was clearly shown in the flashbacks but not outright stated, which was that andi knew damn well miles bron was a dumb huckster.
that's what she wanted him for. she needed that ability to throw himself into his latest shill with total commitment, because of his need to believe in his own hype. the 'reality distortion' of his hard sell.
she knew that to get what she wanted out of life, she needed to harness that confidence of a mediocre white man we all talk about.
that it would open doors that would stay unmoved in the face of all her brilliance, and polish, and perfected rich bitch voice.
there's a lot of these guys out there, and she picked a dumb one because she planned for him to be the front man to her mastermind. (apologies to paul mccartney lol i don't mean to impugn your intelligence.) a smarter man would have had his own plans, would be harder to use as a mouthpiece for her better ones. she would have needed to find an actual partner and not a tool, and she didn't trust like that.
duke wasn't actually wrong to say they were all playing the same shitty game and andi lost. i mean, he was morally wrong but he wasn't incorrect.
like blanc says, she thought that because she was better than bron, because she was the genius and he was the cheap con artist, he wasn't dangerous. and in the end that was where it all fell apart.

hey! as the first season of connor bedard gets underway i, your local indigenous hockey fan, have a request of you: please don't let this kid's sure to be marvellous and jaw-dropping rookie season make you complacent with the racism of the blackhawks as an organization. it is beyond heinous that they were able to secure the first overall pick this year for a number of reasons i'm sure we're all familiar with, but i am pleading with the hockey community not to let the racism of this org fall through the cracks.
they drafted connor bedard and handed him a jersey with a giant racist caricature on the front. their mascot is named tommy hawk. they continuously fail to curtail their fans' egregious displays of anti-indigenous racism at games.
i'm not going to ask anyone not to post about bedard. i know he's huge news and i'm bummed as all hell that i won't be able to enjoy the beginning of what is sure to be an incredible career myself. but i am asking, given that his presence on the team is likely to increase the prevalence of people making and reblogging posts about the blackhawks, that you please care, loudly and actively, about the racism of this organization and how much it hurts indigenous fans to see that go unquestioned so often.
consider mentioning it in posts. consider amplifying the voices of indigenous fans and community members about the issues of these types of sports organizations. consider reading up on the history of the person they claim to 'honour' with their hideous effigy of a logo. consider censoring the logo in your posts if you are able to (please do this if you are able to). consider tagging posts so that indigenous fans are at the very least able to blacklist that team and not have to see it.
above all, please just. don't forget about it. don't forget about us. we belong here too.

#p4#persona 4#p4g#hanamura yosuke#yosuke hanamura#anyone that says yosuke is nothing but mean and awful to Kanji should meet me in the parking lot#we're not going to throw hands im just going to show you my 100 slide powerpoint presentation on their complex dynamic#for me one of the most appealing things about yosuke is how human and realistic he's been written#he is simultaneously capable of immense empathy and care towards his friends while at the same time struggle with his own identity#combined with a difficultly in self expression that results in him making tactless and hurtful remarks at times#thats not to say it makes those remarks ok - far from it!#but i think reducing yosuke to just those remarks makes him a rather empty caricature#which is such a shame especially considering that his entire personal narrative arc has been about confronting himself so he can be better#but anyway yes he cares about his friends he cares about their well being so much#he didnt have any obligation or a responsibility to look out for his juniors but he did so anyway without anyone asking#and it's so!!! because kanji does not look like he needs babying at all. hes taller than both yosuke and yu and he looks way older too#kanji has taken care of biker gangs by himself and is known to be intimidating#not that any of that fazes yosuke? kanji is his friend now hes one of them and therefore yosuke immediately wants to look out for him#god hanamura yosuke you so!!!#AAAAAAAAH#he's good with his queue

I think the main reason WW's Ganondorf is so different from the others it's because he has learned that his battle against the Goddesses is not a matter of everyone against him/the gerudo but rather a everyone against the gods.
Besides Demise's curse, Ganondorf has always been flooded by his wish of revenge: revenge against the hylians who marginalized his people, revenge again the hero who slayed him, revenge against anyone who opposed him. He doesn't fight for a just cause because he believes the world is unjust and the only way of surviving is by being unjust in return.
But in the Adult Timeline, after the events of OoT and breaking his seal, he discovers an awful truth: it's not that the world is unfair, the Goddesses are. Just to seal him again, they flood the whole kingdom they were supposed to protect, killing most of the hylians population and condemning a few selected survivors to struggle in tiny islands isolated from the rest by a huge sea warren of fishes but filled with dangerous monsters. Even the other races had to undergo drastic changes in their bodies to survive un the aftermath of the flood. That's when Ganondorf understood that the Goddesses weren't just unfair: they were uncaring, and willing to sacrifice anything to torment anyone who wronged them.
I think this is why Ganondorf, even thought some of his actions are still deplorable (launching Link to drown at the sea, kidnapping girls, allegedly destroying a village...), we see that he's less willing to actively hurt people (in the final battle, he has TWO clear opportunities to kill Link and Tetra, and in both times he just incapacitates them, and besides whatever happened in Windfish island we never see him sending his monsters to attack people, just kidnapp a few of them). In fact, he's motivanted by a more "noble" cause: to bring Hyrule, or better said, his idyllic version of it, back from the seafloor. This could be because he has stopped seeing hylians as the "other", and has started to consider them as being from the same band, just a bunch of mortals trying to survive the whims of the gods, who play with them as if they were mere chesspieces.
So, in a sense, Ganondorf is not really much different from its other incarnations. He's still full of hatred and rancor, but It has been redirected. Not against the royal family, who exiled his people to the deserts. Not against the hylians, who lived si much better than them and even had the gall to call them thieves when they were just trying to survive. Not against the hero and the princess who defeated and sealed him when he tried to reclaim what he thought he deserved.
It's the Goddesses.
Tumblr media
The Goddesses that drowned their people to "protect" them from him.
The Goddesses that decided it was okay to let two children fight against him as their champions. Forever.
The Goddesses that decided he is the one and only Big Bad Guy of the story when they have commited more atrocities than him, both by action and inaction.

So I've been thinking about Parabolan reflections for my guys for a bit, and finally narrowed them down! Both Leigh and Emery's reflections incorporate a clear element of non-humanness, due to the connection shared between the two.
Being a less-than-natural person, Emery's reflection is a stitched together toy in the approximation of a human. There's no mistaking him for a person- in motion, he's too exaggerated, and his ability to speak is completely gone, as a result of his mouth only being stitching. His outfit is inspired by some of my own plush toys growing up, as well as some depictions of both clowns and court jesters. You can't take something so fake seriously, after all!
Leigh's reflection passes for human far better, but his fake is unchanging- it is a mask, with painted on freckles and cheeks and teeth, and only darkness and pupils are visible in the hollows of his eyes. A red ribbon takes the place of his Red Science gills, and functions similarly to the classic children's tale, The Girl with the Green Ribbon - if ever untied, his 'head' would fall off, revealing that all he ever was to be clothes, a wig, and a mask, with absolutely nothing beneath. He's mostly inspired by fashion from the late Victorian and early Edwardian - and his smiling mask is shamelessly inspired by one a Parabolan Nightmare once gave him :3

honestly for all of the comments that tedbecca was a wonderful platonic relationship, the ending didn’t even honor that. he had NOTHING to say to rebecca asking him to stay or her crying in the airport. and ted is nowhere to be seen in the glimpse into the future in richmond - not even at his best friend’s wedding?!
the message that ending sends is that richmond ceased to exist for ted once he returned to kansas and that his friendships don’t matter. ted’s utter indifference when it came to leaving (or at least his lack of reactions) is a disservice to the themes of friendship and family that have been so important to this show from the start.
even if you didn’t think ted and rebecca belonged together romantically, they had a beautiful friendship, and that finale was a big ‘fuck you’ to that.

season 1 isn't my favorite season or anything, but it has my absolute favorite portrayal of house by far. he goes to patients' lacrosse games, does their prenatal care, talks with and follows up with them when it's completely narratively unnecessary (but in a good way; i just couldn't think of a less pejorative description). he's even kinder to his team. and best of all, he explains things — takes the time to argue for a risky treatment and has a clear basis for treating rather than testing. he's more grounded. he still does all this later in the series, of course, but as the seasons go on he seems more and more ashamed of his kindness and humanity. i think as the show progresses, it gets too used to itself, used to the fact that house just says rude things and does risky treatments because that's just "who he is". i am totally willing to make the argument that he gets flanderized in a way.
while i love later-seasons house, don't get me wrong, my favorite is always going to be the house who is the most grounded in reality. he's still scared of it, but he acts like a human. and that is who house really is to me — not the layers of sarcasm, bigotry, outlandish subplots and unrealistic procedure, but the guy who grumbles and groans about doing his job but secretly loves it and has the show making efforts to expose that secret. so yeah season 1 house supremacy

Ultimately most of my disappointments about The Rocketeer comics boil down to (1) disjointed empty plots running on vibes and (2) relentless sexist writing. It would be bizarre if the characters weren't at least a little sexist because of era, but that's not the same.
Even weirder is occasional smug jokey moments of look, this Modern (wink!) Woman hit someone over the head with a wrench, that'll sure show the menfolk. Which, okay. In actual real 1940 writers gave Lois Lane a tommy gun when they were feeling Feminist, so you're going to have to try a little harder than that. Does Betty have friends? Emotions outside of jealousy towards her man? Shhhh you're going to ruin the illusion that it's 1940. So, then, why am I reading this instead of an actual golden age comic? Those at least wouldn't chicken out from letting the really campy bits shine.

honestly and legitimately i think one of the saddest things about me living at school is that 1. i no longer get to watch adam draw and 2. i can no longer pick up and tear off the scraps of his drawings to keep them

rereading parts of "take your pretty smile, tell them everything's fine." (the jhinhwei scene) and god damn it i m baffled at my own writing??
aka if nobody writes long ass analysis of my fanfic i ll do it myself xD (tw for very much sexual grooming, underage relationship, pseudoincest, i mean its Jhin lol)
i forgot the details and now i m rereading it and i lose my sanity one bit at a time. its so obvious how unhealthy their relationship is, i think its also one of the chapters that really brings out just how young hwei is and in a lot of ways their conversation feels like a talk between a parent and a child, both struggling to let go of each other.
and this is a turning point to an extent, if jhin was a better man he would ve rejected hwei, encouraged the boy to pursue kayn and start developing some sense of independence. but he doesn't do it, instead, he dives right in and makes his dependency worse. Instead of reassuring Hwei that he is alright, that Jhin loves him but that he doesn't care about the kind of sex he is having with his boyfriend Jhin makes clear that he cares, indulges Hwei's desire for him to do so, draws an obvious parallel between the bite kayn left and the scar he cut into him a few months ago.
And what makes this whole thing "worse" imo in that in a scene that is very much smut we also get their first actual conversation about what they are,
Hwei: “You are more of a father, or brother, or friend than I ever had.” Jhin: “You are the only son I will ever have.”
and then in the middle of making out, hwei calls jhin "dad" for the first time, and i think its then that Jhin actually realises the power he holds over this child of his.
like, jhin never planned to be a father for hwei, he never planned to raise a child, he was totally unprepared for the traumatised special needs kid he took in. he had no idea what was going on, just thought that this immensely talented baby artist will never have a chance to bloom if he doesn't get him out of the soul-crushing environment. so he does, their relationship grows, he realises that he begins to love this child, that he wants to give him the world, wants him to be happy.
but now, in the middle of making out with Hwei, he suddenly realises that this isn't right, that if he loves Hwei then he needs to at least give him the space to think this through, show him that he can love him without needing his body for it.
“Let me show you how much I adore you.”  Jhin moved up, took his hands and gently placed them to his side, smiling almost shyly. “Will you let me?”
and when Hwei agrees, fully expecting to just have emotional sex, Jhin stops. and i m so not okay with this, i didn't even expect this to happen, i thought it would just be a chapter focused on them having hot sex.
like jhin totally crossed the line, but he allows Hwei to step back and reassures his baby boy that he ll love him no matter what he chooses :(((

I am on the third episode of the second season of Loki tv series and i keep waiting for it to become good but i think I’m waiting in vain.
I hate Sylvie, i hate the characterization of Loki (no hate to Tom Hiddleston, he’s wonderful)
The plot sucks and alternates between rushing tension and silly conversations that make no fucking sense but they’re there because they’re trying to be funny.
I don’t know man, i just can’t see what everyone was raving about.

It’s actually growing on me a little that s5 Lucifer was like I’m just a regular powerful angel! So salt and holy water doesn’t work on me because I’m just some misunderstood guy really, look at my regular clothes, hear me talk very calmly and secure in my knowledge and ignore the fact that I just murdered a town of people, I’m really the guy whose right here while s12 Lucifer is burning bibles and rotating crosses, flashing his wings at every opportunity, making Dagon drop to the floor from the power of his scream and wearing like a douchebag leather jacket the moment he gets to dress himself like maybe there is something there with him choosing to be as loud and flashy as possible just because he can and because he knows god isn’t watching anymore and Sam being so terrified of him regardless

Sometimes I'm reminded of the fact that Dick is only canonically Romani thanks to D*vin Gr*yson and that when she wrote it she included a bunch of harmful and offensive stereotypes and then I get sad that something so good in theory was twisted into something much worse
:(
