Casual transphobia is very rampant among the more "mainstream" fringes of the fandom (and among the dudebros ofc) so I really shouldn't be surprised that I sometimes come across certain """"explanations"""' but at the same time I am begging someone to explain to me why so many people are convinced that this thing, a non-human, gaseous life-form
Tumblr media
could ever experience gender the same way a human does, and even go out of its way to "force" its host to comply with its identity. How!!! With what logic!!!
If anything it's the contrary, meaning: by virtue of not being human nor having a body of their own, through their symbiotic relationship with their hosts ai internalise human perceptions and identities, or they simply exist in tune with them exactly because none of it has any relevance to them

Hey so I wanted to ask if you could do gons, killuas, kurapikas, and leorios reaction to finding out that their friend, the reader, they met at the hunter exam, was a girl? And they assumed it was a guy, but it was a girl hiding it because she didn’t want to be left out?
Main Four react to their ‘Guy friend’ being actually a Girl.
Tumblr media
Oooo that’s an really interesting ask. Also the reader is an adult in this.
Tumblr media
Honestly, Gon will be the first one out of the group to discover your secret. And by complete accident too, at the Heaven’s Arena.
You’ll end up asking for your own room seperate from the boys instead of bunking with them, when you got private rooms at the 100th floor. This will, of course, confuse the boys but they won’t press into you too much about why.
But, Gon can’t stop wondering why. He wants to find out why his older friend (y/n) didn’t want to bunk with them or at the very least sleepover. So, Gon decides to take a walk to your room. To just check up on you, you know?
Gon, being Gon, just decides to open the door to the private room with the key card you had given the two. So, he busts in, yelling up a storm about how he’s sorry if he possibly made you mad and asking what’s wrong.
And there you were low and behold, sitting in front of the tv in girly fluffy panda onesie, eating a bowl of Cheerios. You freeze thinking you’ve been caught as Gon walks over but...
“Oh wow (y/n)! I didn’t know you liked such soft clothes.”
....Of course, he didn’t connect the dots right.
You had to explain the really reason why to the poor boy. He’ll probably be confused as he listens and have smoke coming out of his ears from thinking too hard. He just doesn’t get why and will make a big speech about how you are his friend no matter who you were. Honestly, it will make you cry just from how touching the speech is.
And, after you calm down, you and Gon will probably spend most of the night watching reruns from today’s matches while betting on who would win; before passing out in a pile of blankets. It was honestly a fun time and you were just relieved that telling Gon turned out alright.
Though, you might have to be ready to face an angry Killua in the morning. Due to the scolding and yelling you two receive from the boy, you’ll both end up forget to tell Killua your secret.
Tumblr media
The second person to find out will be Killua. He won’t find out on the morning after Gon found out but he will also find out at Heaven’s Arena.
It will happen when Killua is checking up on Gon with his broken arm. The young boy will walk in an finds his friend asleep but is also shocked with what he sees sleeping in the chair next to Gon. His friend (y/n) wearing a flowy dress?
He has no problem with you wearing a dress. After all, Alluka identifies as a girl and her and Kalluto have worn dresses for years. He is just surprised because he didn’t know you went that way.
Most likely, he will wake you up and you’ll be staring at each other while you are scared shitless. You two won’t saying anything between you two as you stare at each other for a while; You unsure of what to say to the younger boy. Killua will mostly likely have to cough to break the tense silence.
“So,... (y/n) ummm what’s your pronouns? If you don’t mind me asking.”
You blink a couple of times trying to peace together what was he was asking, before breaking out in a grin. You always knew Killua was such a nice kid down deep in his heart. So you explain to the younger boy what you told Gon and he will probably call you an idiot as he digs his heel into your foot. Killua just didn’t understand why you went through that trouble.
“Oh. (Y/n).”
“Yeah?”
“I realized you are the first older women to not be out for my head.... Hey! Oi! It’s not funny!”
Tumblr media
The next after that will be Leorio. He will, of course, find out at York New City.
He’ll probably end up finding out when you, Gon and Killua meet up with him. They’ll probably explain it to him but he’ll still be suspicious. He wants to find out for himself,... secret agent style!
He’ll probably use the stupidest of assumptions and clues to figure out which you are. Oh, you like that pink fluffy bunny a seller is selling, you must be a girl! Hmmm, but you did get pretty friendly with that lady over there as well. Hmmmmmm.... suspicious.
He’ll also google stupid articles for help too. He’ll use anything like even a stupid one about how the way you sleep depends on your gender. Killua and Gon will just shake their heads at him as he takes notes of you while you sleep.
Honestly, he’ll end up giving up after two days and just ask you. Once you explain it to him you two will probably go out for drinks and just laugh at you twos silliness.
Though, probably if Leorio knew you were a girl from the get go... he would have be flirting with you and trying to make you his girlfriend the whole time.
Tumblr media
Now, Kurapika. This man probably would have picked up the fact you were a girl from the beginning. I’m not sure how but he had a high suspicion when you were being very motherly while comforting him after he fought Majitini.
He probably didn’t say something to the others because he guessed there was a big reason behind you pretending to be a guy. Afterall, he keeps secrets himself, and probably faked who he was more than once.
The only time it will be really important for Kurapika is when they captured Chrollo in the car.
Since the car is super cramped and stuff, you were forced to sit in the middle of the two men. You’ll at one point get really terrified from Kurapika losing his cool, all yelling and the fact you all were currently threatening the rest of the troupe.
So, you’ll be like close to tears when you feel something nudge your knee. You’ll flinch at the feeling and look over to see Chrollo staring over at you. He’ll give you a smirk and say “it’s not nice to make pretty girls cry, Chain user.”
This will, of course, set Kurapika off again and Melody and Leorio will be forced to yell at him to stop. Honestly, Chrollo is probably just trying to manipulate you, but it was still nice of him to make small talk with you for most of the ride after that.
Well,...until he leaned really close to your face. Kurapika, mad at the fact Chrollo was trying to take advantage of you, punched him as hard as he could and change your seats. You believed Kurapika actually broke Chrollo’s nose from that punch.
On top of that, Kurapika made sure to keep you away from Chrollo after that, wrapping one arm around you at all times after that. You were really thankful to have someone like Kurapika looking out for you, even if it led to breaking the leader of the phantom troupe’s nose.

it's funny how the homophobes and transphobes who watched hunter x hunter, are the ones who think THEY got it right.
as if togashi hasn't made it extremely clear that when it comes to love and being yourself, things like gender, sexual/romantic orientation, labels, other peoples' opinions don't need to matter one bit.
kurapika and kalluto can exist as normal people, without their "feminine style" being a joke. they aren't "traps". they're characters just like any other.
neferpitou's "unknown" gender doesn't need to be "figured out". they can exist without being forced into a binary gender. they're still a villain just as complex as anyone else.
alluka isn't a "trap" or "actually a boy". she's killua's awesome sister who finally got her freedom from her terrible family. what her "biological sex" is doesn't matter. she can peacefully exist as a girl just like any other.
kite being "reborn as a woman" isn't considered a joke or questionable/weird. does kite still identify as a man? or did kite never really care about gender and being referred to as a female makes no difference? we don't know, but we don't need that information in order to view kite as a human being. or um a rat? ant? human rat ant being? whatever lol kite is still *,~swag~,*
hisoka... well he certainly doesn't care about gender... or uhm... age...... that's um something i guess...?
the point(s) i'm trying to make is that,,
1: the reddit everythingphobic dudebros can NOT know better than us,, if they don't understand the points i made above^^
2: hunter x hunter isn't a manga/anime where characters' sexualities and gender identities need to be defined, just as their sexualities and gender identities don't define them. like any of them.
being able to be yourself, love whoever you want, be seen as a real human being (or ant lol) isn't dependant on labels in hunter x hunter. never has been.
and naturally, if gon and killua end up together, it's going to be because they're in love. not because they're "made gay" or "gay characters". and i can assure you togashi will not reveal what their sexualities are.
because as long as they love each other, it doesn't make any difference.

why is alluka gender an issue like half the fandom said she actually an boy but wants to be refer as an girl but half said she always been an girl but her family disown her for being an monster
Oh boy oh boy.
(just a note, i use a general “you” in that answer, I don’t talk to you directly nonny, it’s just easier for me to word what I want to say)
Alluka is a girl. There is no debate to have about it. she’s a girl, she identifies as a girl, and the only people refering her as a boy are the same people who refers to her as a monster and abuse her, so they shouldn’t be taken into consideration when it comes to the well being of their daughter/sister.
The narrative is rather clear that she’s a transgirl. A lot of people can talk about it better than I do, but it’s rather clear she was dmab (especially since in the flashbacks she is refered by male pronoums). The treatment by her family, mostly toward Nanika but honestly toward everything Alluka is in general, is really symbolic of a lot of trans people living in a family that would reject them.
So when she says she’s a girl, it means she’s a girl.
Killua is the only member of her family who loves her and respects her, and with the narrative being clear that the family doesn’t know about Alluka at all while Killua knows everything, and Killua had been one of our main characters, a good judgement for the whole show, who’s thoughts had always been as honest as possible, someone we’re supposed to trust. So if Killua says Alluka is a girl? She’s a girl.
If the people who calls her “it” or a monster, who don’t know anything about how her powers work, who isolate her, who are scared of her, who tries to force a narrative on her that isn’t hers, who are a clear parallel to transphobic families, tells the audience she’s a “he”, how the fuck do you want to trust them?
So no, there’s no debate to have about it. None. Alluka is a girl. She’s a transgirl. The narrative is clear about who you have to believe, the narrative is clear that it’s what to do to respect her. And if that wasn’t enough, all the symbolisms go in that direction as well.
So for people saying “she’s a boy who believes she’s a girl”, there’s two solutions: Either they are extremely uneducated on this topic and had a harmful understanding of this kind of situation, or/and they are transphobic.
The manga didn’t spell out the fact Alluka is a transgirl. Because it makes sense and the reader should put it into consideration by themselves. They never say it ontext “by the way she’s trans”, but it’s rather clear in every other aspects that she is.
So for someone who’s not educated, say, a really young person, or someone who had never been even made aware of the existence of trans people, and if they never had a proper education on how to react in those circumstances, I suppose they can’t know.
But that doesn’t mean they can actually call her “he”. It means they need to educate themselves.  (If you are in that situation i would bring you to this essay that was written about Alluka’s gender.).
And there is the case of people being downright transphobic. And for that I don’t have any answer that isn’t incredibly mean, but just fuck off. The narrative is being clear that people who misgender Alluka are antagonists and abusers. If that’s what you want to identify as and be tone-deaf about what people tell you, it’s a problem.
One last thing: no matter what gender you think someone is, if they tell you they’re another gender, you listen to them and you use the appropriate pronoums. It’s none of your business to judge someone over what they tell you they are or not, no matter how hard you believe it. It costs $0 to actually adress the person as the way they want to be adressed.
If you believe “she’s a boy who prefer to be identified as a girl”, that’s transphobic, but also it’s not your place to say what their gender is. It’s what they say that matters.
And a lot of people discussed it, especially people who can connect to Alluka’s storyline better than I do. Listen to them. Understand their points. Open your mind.
And if people still refer to her as a “he” while knowing all of that, just fuck off.
EDIT: something I forgot to adress bc i forget I have to adress it, is that sort of “but maybe Alluka was dfab but her parents wanted her to be a boy/deshumanized her so they called her a he” - I’m p sure it was confirmed she was dmab (kinda in a tactless way by Togashi, but still did), and more is explored is the essay i linked.
So please don’t.
Take care nonny!
