Foolsamponk reincarnation AU

His heart skipped a beat that day.

He always knew that Ponk is the reincarnation of the soul that he's been in love with for centuries, he can feel the same energy that he felt decades ago resting within the shorter human. It's always been like this for centuries; they'll meet, Foolish wouldn't say a word about their past relationship, and they'll part again, waiting for a new vessel for the soul. But something is different this time. Something is missing.

The soul is incomplete. He doesn't know how to describe it, but something changed. It leaves an empty feeling, a slight uneasiness on Foolish's part, as if he's facing a different soul. There's no warmth, there's no quickened heartbeat, only a sense of familiarity. But there's no doubting that this is his lover, or at least it was. Whatever it is, he didn't let it cloud his mind. Maybe they're just not meant to be in this lifetime, maybe the higher Gods have a different plan for him.

So this time, Foolish stays by Ponk's side as a friend. It's enough, as long as he knows the reincarnate doesn't live a lonely life, as long as he knows the reincarnate is doing well. Then maybe on its next life they can be together again.

But that day, that day is different. That day changed everything. He felt his chest tighten, his face warmed up to the presence of Ponk... and Sam.

And that's when it clicked in his head. He felt dumb for not noticing this sooner, or even considering the possibility despite having seen it happen multiple times throughout his years of being alive. He felt like a fool for thinking that it won't happen to someone so dear to him.

His lover's soul was split into two, resting and resonating strongly within Ponk and Sam. And he finally found them, and it feels just as warm as he remembers. He couldn't fight the smile that forced its way to his lips, his head felt so light and for a moment his mind feels so loud yet so serene and he could only form one thought,
