GALTx eNews: Thanks For A Great First Quarter 2023!
April is National Adopt A Greyhound Month but our adoption team didn't wait. They have already been busy this year finding forever homes for 19 lovable hounds! More hounds came in right behind them to fill their spaces, and then some! Indeed, in just the first quarter, we welcomed 41 hounds to the GALT family, including:
The last three retired racers from Ireland until this fall;
16 retired racers from Australia;
Seven strays;
Six hounds from shelters;
Five hounds surrendered by their owners; and
Four Greyhounds from the American racing industry.
Foster homes continue to be one of our tightest resources and a limitation on our ability to welcome even more hounds to the family. While adoption application activity remains brisk, new hounds cannot be made available for adoption until we get to know them in a foster home. So we appreciate your patience while we work through the adoption backlog and encourage all in the Dallas, Albuquerque, and Oklahoma City areas to consider opening their homes to a foster.
To help pay the bills in the first quarter of 2023, we hosted GALT's 2023 Luck-Of-The-Irish Auction, our first on-line auction this year, and Wiley's Guardian Angels Matching Fund, in honor of Wiley, and the three other coyote hounds who joined the GALT family with him, Acme, Beep, and Cliff. Thanks to all who participated to help the hounds, these events were a "greyt" success! We also enjoyed seeing so many friendly faces at the North Texas Irish Festival.
We have a lot more to come this year including our 22nd Birthday Party this April 30th! Stay tuned with us to see what else is in store for 2023!
