“Could you at least have held off on your screaming until they left? Just calm down, it’s not like it’s gonna get worse,” Vulcan says exasperatedly.

“My leg just dematerialised and you want me to calm down?” Zven nearly shrieks.

“That’s what had you yelling your head off? Seriously?” Perkz asks, walking over to where the ADC is lying down. 

“He wasn’t paying attention and blinked without enough concentration. Again,” Vulcan explains, mostly for the benefit of Fudge and Blaber, who are sending concerned glances their way.

“That makes…what, a week since the last time?” Perkz asks. 

“Six days,” Vulcan corrects. 

“Are we not even going to be a little sympathetic to the pain he’s in?” Blaber asks, worriedly looking at where Zven’s leg should be.

“Thank you,” Zven says, at the same time that Vulcan and Perkz both say “No.”

“This is what happens when we try to show off,” Vulcan says smugly, “instead of, oh I don’t know, actually focusing on winning. He gets to suffer a bit.” Perkz nods in agreement, a far-too-satisfied smirk on his face.

“You guys are the worst,” Zven mutters.

“Only until you learn your lesson!” Vulcan says, smirk matching Perkz’s. 

“Remind me again why you get to tell me how to use my magic?”

“I mean,” Perkz says, “we don’t have to, but you are complaining about a problem you could fix very easily.”

“You’re one to talk about not showing off,” Zven retorts.

“Yeah, but when was the last time I complained about something that was my fault?” Perkz asks. “Don’t answer that,” he says, upon seeing Vulcan begin to open his mouth.

“Two days ago,” Vulcan says, grinning.

“No, come on—”

“You threw your sword,” Vulcan continues, unapologetic. “And then you kept complaining about the new dent in it.”

“Shut up,” Perkz mumbles.

“Funny, that’s what I wanted to say to both of you.”

“Where are you going?” 

Viper stops in his tracks, turning to face Lehends. “…Out,” he says slowly.

“In the middle of the day?” Lehends asks, but understanding dawns on his face before Viper can respond. “…You’re not coming back, are you.”

Viper sighs. He really didn’t want to have this conversation with anyone, let alone his support. “My contract’s expired, Lehends. Even if it weren’t, there’s no place for me here. Not anymore.”

“What do you mean?” Lehends asks, hurt flashing in his eyes. Great. The exact reason he didn’t want to have this conversation. After all, hurting other people is the only thing he’s good at.

“Do you really think I don’t know what you all thought?” Viper asks quietly. 

“I don’t know what you mean—” Lehends starts, but Viper cuts him off with a humourless laugh. 

“Yes, you do,” he says. “You were all terrified of me. You still are. You don’t need to pretend you have no idea what I’m talking about. You’ve always been a terrible liar.” 

“That’s not true—”

“It is, Lehends,” Viper says tiredly. “I see how you look at me. All wondering when the next time I’ll snap is. If next time it’ll be one of you.”

“I told you before! I know you could never hurt anyone on purpose,” Lehends pleads.

“And I told you. If you think that then you don’t know me at all. You should be glad that I’m leaving.”

“Viper…” Lehends begins, stepping closer.

“You want to prove me right?” Viper snaps. 

Lehends flinches, recoiling back. 

“Yeah. That’s what I thought,” Viper says, turning and slipping out the door.

Lehends follows, trying to grab him by the shoulder, but Viper snatches his hand out of the air, holding him with a piercing glare. “Stay away from me,” he hisses before suddenly dropping Lehends’ wrist like it’s burning hot. “I don’t…I don’t want to hurt you too.”
