Charles Spurgeon's MORNING AND EVENING: MAY 9
Charles Spurgeon’s MORNING AND EVENING: MAY 9
MORNING “Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings.” Ephesians 1:3 All the goodness of the past, the present, and the future, Christ bestows upon his people. In the mysterious ages of the past the Lord Jesus was his Father’s first elect, and in his election he gave us an interest, for we were chosen in him from before the foundation of the world. He had from all eternity the prerogatives…

Quote of the day, 8 May: St. Thérèse of Lisieux
Quote of the day, 8 May: St. Thérèse made her First Communion on 8 May 1884; here is a fresh, new translation of her sister Marie's account of preparations for this special day, offered during testimony for the beatification process
Thérèse made her First Communion on 8 May 1884, at the age of 11 years and 4 months. She suffered a lot from the waiting period that was imposed on her; she couldn’t understand this law, which seemed so severe to her, of being delayed by a year, because she was born, she said, two days too late. One day, we met Bishop Hugonin, who was on his way to the train station: “Oh, Marie,” she said, “do…

Singing the Litany of the Saints since childhood is such an Experience™.
You start by hearing those weird names and then you learn their stories, you hear their poems, you discover how your faith has been passively shaped by their lives and love stories with God and everytime you sing the Litany you recognize new friends and distant family members. You hear their name and their letters, poems, lives, friendships, miracles, sufferings come to mind, and although you know that you will never have any idea what it was like to live by faith in their time and in the place they lived, you know their prayers are the reason you're here and their lives shaped yours in a way you will never ever understand.
I don't know man, I just love the Saints and our Blessed Mother so much i could talk about it for hours.

Quote of the day, 19 April: St. Elizabeth of the Trinity
Today we recall St. Elizabeth of the Trinity’s First Communion on 19 April 1891; we’ve translated the saint’s 1889 letter to her mother promising good behavior and a friend’s testimony to Elizabeth’s miraculous transformation
Dear little mother, it is with pleasure that I see the new year arrive in order to renew my wishes for a happy new year. I wish you everything you could possibly desire, and now that I’m older I’m going to be a sweet, patient, obedient, diligent little girl who never gets angry. First of all, since I am the elder, I must set an example for my little sister; I will not upset her anymore. Finally,…

1st Holy Communion - How to prep for your child's special day?
1st Holy Communion – How to prep for your child’s special day?
Spring brings so many occasions in which to prepare – Easter, Mother’s Day, Graduation and if you’re religious, First Holy Communion. Along with being a wonderful moment in your child’s Life, it can be stressful for Moms and Dads alike. Which dress to pick out, what suit or dress shirt to wear, can they walk down the church aisle in these dress shoes without tripping, does this veil even look…

Sometimes I'm still thinking about that time I was a kid and I was sitting in a line waiting for the confessional to be free. Which took FOREVER. Because you know, 8-9 year olds tend to see 30-45 minutes of waiting time and doing nothing as forever.
So, I was sitting between two friends. After standing for a while, so no way I would get up and stand again, nu-uh. After all, it could take another forever for all I knew, because there were two lines to this damn confessional.
So, two friends. They started chatting. It was sorta fun. I don't remember the topic, but I remember that I laughed a bit several times - not to say once, as it might have been twice. I did not talk.
To the priest who stormed out of the confessional and then refused to give any of us forgiveness for sins. Bro. Dude bro. The brotherest bro they ever had in this churchest church. You made me lie and lectured me for nothing.
Idk, but I find the entire situation sorta funny? Because you have this priests who takes it upon himself to withhold or give forgiveness, even though he technically is there as just a bridge, and it's like. There was none of that divinity to it. An error was made. It was human. Stupid human stuff.
And me, a stupid human child thinking "Okay, what is something that I didn't so that he'd attribute to me?", because all my stupid list of sins was made up.

When I was 16, I went to Mass with my Catholic friend one time. She explained how to decline Communion, b/c obviously I wasn't Catholic or confirmed, but I didn't understand and the priest gave me the wafer and I at it anyway. I am now 26. Can I stop feeling bad about this now? (half joking, half serious)
I will tell you a story.
When I was a child older than seven but younger than ten, I attended my second ever quinceañera. I was very excited to go as I liked looking at all the scepters.
I not having had my first communion, had to put my arms across my chest to not have the priest mistakenly give me the Body of Christ. But my family was near the back and I watched all the children, some younger than me, get their own Corpus Christi.
My father was in attendance to this quinceañera as well. Keep in mind my father was raised in a very Baptist household and every Mass we attended as a family, he partook in the body of Christ.
Thinking quickly, I crossed my arms haphazardly. When it got to my turn to the priest he said the usual, “The Body of Christ.” I held my little hands out and said amen in reply. But in that moment, in my childhood scheme I hadn’t thought of my mother standing behind me in line. She smacked my hands and said very loudly, “Cross your arms.” And I was dying of mortification.
She gripped my shoulder so tight while she drank the Blood of Christ and didn’t let go until we sat back down at our pew. I silently hoped that no one else had seen what had transpired.
Half-serious answer to your original inquiry: You never stop feeling guilty.

Hi everyone, I made another design for this idea, next one will be a boy.
The traditional date to celebrate first communion (for catholics at least, I don’t know if other religions have a similar celebration) is getting closer but this year due to covid it’s not going to be the familiar celebration it should be. So to make it a little special for my niece I decided to make her a shaped pillow of her with her communion dress so she can have something cute and more personal than the classic doll bought at a store. And I thought she’s not going to be the only child this year who won’t be able to celebrate with the family, and I won’t be the only one who wants to make something custom for their loved ones so I’m accepting commissions.
