"Please Tommy." Lizzie begged, grabbing onto her husband's sleeve. Tommy halted his movements to turn to look into his wife's eyes. The desperation and determination was evident.
"She started when she was 10, I've watched her like my own. I thought she got out but she didn't." Lizzie thought back to that morning. During her early morning walk with Charles and Ruby she caught sight of a familiar set of flaming red hair. Lizzie's breath got caught in her throat as she saw the young girl she saw as a daughter disappear back into the dreaded building she knew all to well.
" I just need to get her out. I can't let her stay there any longer." Lizzie shut her eyes, moving her hand from Tommy's sleeve up to his face. Tommy closed his eyes at the contact, leaning into it slightly.
"Where will she stay? I will not bring her into the house if she is to cause harm to the children." Tommy tried to reason. Lizzie shook her head quickly at his words.
"No no! I talked to Polly already, she is allowing the child to stay with her until she gets on her feet. We just need to get her out." Lizzie's heart started to swell as her husband's face softened.
"What's her name? If I am to go and talk to the duchess I need to know it." Tommy worried it was a trap, a scam. He worried someone had gotten into his wife's head to get money from him, but if Polly was on board he soon realized how serious it was.
"She doesn't have a real name. Or if she does she has never told anyone. They call her Angel, she had long auburn hair, I could go with you!" Lizzie offered but Tommy cut her off quickly.
"No! You will not step foot back in that building. I will take Arthur with me and we will collect her." Tommy nodded at his wife, squeezing her hand lightly before turning towards his office.
"I will be waiting at Polly's!" Lizzie yelled after him before his office door shut with a click.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"We getting a whore Tommy?" Arthur joked, following his brother towards the brothel. Smoke filled around them as they walked with a purpose. "Is Lizzie not good anymore?"
Tommy halted his movements to look his brother in the eye.
"I am here for Lizzie. She knows a child in here, and she begged me to get her out. Lizzie pulled money from her savings for the child." Tommy explained. Arthur's face grew serious as he took in Tommy's words. His throat got tight as he thought about a young girl being in that building.
"How old are we talking Thomas? When did she start?" Arthur's voice grew deep as he looked at his younger brother.
"Two years younger than Finn. I reckon she would be 16 or so now." Arthur shut his eyes quickly. Bile rising to his mouth as he thought of his youngest brother. She was a child, an innocent who was put in the den with the devil.
Opening the door to the building, the foyer light up from the outside light. An older woman sat at a desk by the door, she was counting money. She glanced up and smirked, not halting her movements.
"I knew you Shelby's couldn't stay away." Her voice was laced with sarcasm. Arthur clenched his fist as he and Tommy stepped forward.
"I am here to buy you out." Tommy spoke, his eyes running over the dark foyer. Down the hall behind the desk he could see heads peaking out before quickly disappearing.
"Oh of course. Is Miss Stark no longer satisfactory?" The duchess grinned wickedly.
"It's Mrs. Shelby now, and she is just fine." Tommy replied curtly, smirking as the grin got wiped of her face.
"I have one for sale at the moment. Charity." The duchess began to speak, motioning for an older blonde girl to step out from her room. Tommy's eyes didn't leave the duchess as he shook his head.
"No. I am here for a specific girl, and I will not leave until I have her." A small click was heard and the Duchess realized both the Shelby men were armed.
"Of course." The duchess spoke, her voice thick. She set the money down and stood up. "Which girl would you like? And for how long?"
"The one called Angel. And indefinitely."
The Duchess paled in color. She knew the child was her youngest and most promising. She also knew what was behind her door.
"Of course Mr. Shelby. I will lead you to her room."
The two brothers followed the woman down the dark hall. Many eyes peered out to catch a glimpse but doors were quickly shut. The duchess finally stepped Infront of a door, clearing her throat slightly before speaking again.
"You must know she is rambunctious, this one is. I will leave you now, no protest. But she is in debt to me." The duchess reasoned with the men. They both knew the girl was in no debt but Tommy handed over a wad of cash before waving her off. The duchess hurried down the hallway as quickly as she could and into a back room. A definite lock let the brothers know they would not see her again.
Upon opening the girl's room the brother's were met with a sight. Beaten and bruised the young girl laid on the floor. The two rushed towards her, she was breathing but just so.
"Pick her up Arthur." Tommy spoke. His eyes searched around the room. He spotted a small suitcase at the foot of her bed. He went to her closet and drawers and threw as much as he could into the case. He cleared her desk into the bag as well. As he went to turn away he felt a floorboard squeak. Arthur turned with the girl in his arms and nodded downward. Below a loose floorboard was a small box. Tommy did not open it, but he grabbed it as well. Looking around he saw just how bad she was living. No windows, dark room. A small bowl of food sat by the bed and with the ease that Arthur was lifting her, he knew she was small.
When the door to Polly's house burst open, Polly and Lizzie jumped up. Finn, Isiah and Michael rushed in from the kitchen, guns out. Polly let out a gasp as she saw the state of the girl in Arthur's arms.
"Upstairs now!" She ushered him, Lizzie hot on his heels.
"What happened?" She croaked out as she peered at the small girl from over Arthur's shoulder. He just shook his head slightly, dismissing her as he turned into the bedroom. He gently went to lay her down on the bed when she decided to wake. Panic filled the young girl's eyes and all she could see was an unknown man hovering over her. She screamed, a scream filled with pure terror. She pushed off Arthur, swinging her hands at his face. She landed on the bed with a bounce and began moving backwards, fearing he would come towards her.
'No! No no please please no." She sobbed, finding herself in the corner of the room. The bed holding her in place.
"Shhhh it's okay." Lizzie spoke, pushing past Arthur and giving him a glare. The young girl's eye's softened and she took in the sight of her old friend.
'Lizzie!" She sobbed out as she reached out to hug the older woman. Lizzie climbed onto the bed with her and pulled her into her lap. From the door way Tommy, Arthur, Polly and the three young blinders watched as Lizzie held the small girl in her arms. Her sobs filled the room as she trembled.
"Alright out." Polly spoke to the boys, pushing Arthur out.
"Aunt Pol who is that?" Finn questioned, trying to get a look at the bundle of flaming red hair that sat in Lizzie's lap.
"A scared child." Polly sharply snapped. "A scared child who doesn't need three idiots staring at her while she grieves what she just escaped from." Polly smacked each of the boy's heads before shooing them down the hall. "Is she a whore?" Isiah spoke, smirking slightly. A force suddenly grabbed him by the neck and he was slammed into the wall. Isiah paled as he was met with the serious faces of both Thomas and Arthur Shelby.
"She is no whore. She is a child who was left with the devil. You will not address her as that word or so help me you will end up in the cut." Polly spoke from behind her nephews.
"if I hear you call her anything but her name-" Arthur cut himself off as the Jesus boy gulped and nodded quickly. "That goes for you two as well." His head snapped towards Finn and Michael. Both boys nodded quickly as well before hurrying down the stairs and towards the Garrison.
"What now?" Tommy asked. The young girls sobs had slowly quieted. All that could be head was the reassuring words of Lizzie.
"It's okay Angel, you are safe now."
A/N: I had this idea for this story and decided I wanted to try to write it. I will let you know, this takes place in the PB universe but will not adhere to the story line. Some plot points may come from the show but I am not sticking to it. Please comment if this is something people would enjoy reading!

Closer Than You Think
Warnings: smut
I’m back from the dead x
Myself and Finn had a strange relationship. I’m a close friend to the Shelby family. My Father passed away during the war and ever since my Mother has only come home to sort herself out and then disappear again to do God knows what.
I found comfort in my neighbours. Especially Polly Gray. She taught me about her spiritual ways when I was most down and introduced me to the three eldest of the Shelby boys when they came home from the war.
I’d say Finn and I have always been friends but now I’m involved in the Shelby business as Tommy’s secretary, we bypass each other with a simple ‘Hi’ and carry on.
I’ll admit, I’ve always had an infatuation with Finn. As he grew older and basically grew into his Peaky hat, he could command a room with just his eyes.
Even though I’m usually Tommy’s secretary, today I’m acting as Finn’s as Tommy says he could use a hand organising the mounds of documents in his office.
He was currently reading through a pile of papers I’d asked him to sort through to see if they were rubbish or not. ‘What are you doing for lunch?’ He spoke into the quiet room. Stood near the window wiping the dust off a cabinet I had cleared I replied, ‘I’m not sure, might just see what Polly’s doing’. He hummed to himself as I asked him what he was doing for lunch. ‘I’ve got a whore on the way, she shouldn’t be long’ he replied bluntly.
I rolled my eyes trying to think of any reason this man would need to pay for sex. I don’t think he realises half of Small Heath are drooling over him, including myself. I was preparing to excuse myself as I didn’t want to be in the room when she arrived. Movement outside the window caught my eye. ‘Is your whore Chinese?’ I asked. ‘I think so, why?’ He got up and walked to the window. ‘She’s just put a knife in her pocket, this is why you shouldn’t pay for random girls to service you’, I stared at him.
He rubbed his nose, ‘oh yeah and where exactly am I meant to find better?’ He was staring down at me. ‘Closer than you think’, I toyed with him. He walked towards the door, thinking I’d done something wrong I carried on sorting my things to leave for lunch. I heard Finn open the door and shout down the hall to Isiah, ‘send that whore away will you’. Isiah shouted back confirmation of some sort.
Finn walked back over to me and pulled me into a kiss. My hands went straight to his chest as the kiss continued. He walked us back to the wall behind us. ‘You should’ve said something sooner’ he said to me. We stared at each other, ‘what do you mean?’ I questioned as I caught my breath. ‘I’ve been wasting my money on random girls when I could’ve been treating you like a queen’ he replied.
He pulled me into another kiss as he picked me up and walked us over to his desk. He moved things out of the way, making it obvious that he was trying to keep things organised as to not reverse all the work I did in the morning. I giggled as he pulled me to sit on his desk. ‘Correct me if I’m wrong but you’ve never?’ He left his question open ended. I blushed as I hid my face in his shoulder, ‘nobody seemed worth it’, I replied. You could tell his ego was soaking in the fact that that meant that he was worth it.
I wore a dress that hugged my waist and fell down to my knees. As he pulled me into another kiss, his hands ran from my waist and down my thighs. He began to push my skirt up to my waist, he made eye contact with me as I nodded for him to carry on. I felt his fingers brush against the cotton of my underwear, letting out a whine as the ache left me wanting more.
I felt his fingers push my underwear to the side as his hand cupped behind my knee to pull my leg up round his waist. His fingers brushed my clit as he pulled me into another kiss, being in complete control of the current moment. He pulled away from the kiss, our foreheads still touching ‘you’re unreal’ he whispered. I let out a moan, pushing myself closer to his hand.
He abruptly pulled his hand away, pulling a whine from my mouth. ‘Be patient’, he toyed with me. His hands began to pull the zipper down at the back of my dress. As I pulled the dress off my shoulders, my hands then began to unbutton his shirt. His jacket discarded early this morning. My hands slid down his chest beginning to unbuckle his belt. He pushes my hands away, ‘I’m not done with you yet’, he smirks.
He lifts me up to pull the dress from my waist, shoes discarded at the same time. He places his hand on my stomach and pushes me to lie back on the desk. He bends to kiss my stomach as my fingers tangle in his hair. His fingers reach to pull my underwear down and then undo my bra. He looks down at me as I look up at him, both admiring what we see.
He sits in the chair infront of his desk and leans forward so his tongue can work its way over my clit. My hands fly back to his hair as I moan and curve my back away from the desk. He flicks his tongue back and forth as I feel the pressure building in my stomach. I feel his fingers brush up my leg to join his tongue as he pushes one finger inside of me. I could cry at how good it feels. I moan his name as I pull on his hair.
He pulls away from my clit and kisses my thigh as he pushes two fingers in me. I could feel the pain but the pleasure took over. My hand reached behind my head as I held onto the edge of the desk. I moaned out into the room as Finn watched his fingers push in and out. I needed to feel more so my hand wanders down and starts to play with my clit. ‘Fucking hell’ I hear him whisper.
I make eye contact with him as he begins to lean over and pull me into a heated kiss. One hand holds the back of his head as the other scratches at his shoulder. His thumb plays with my clit as his fingers pick up the pace. Pushing me over the edge as I start to convulse on the desk in front of him. I let out a string of curse words whilst moaning his name. He continues kissing me as my high comes and goes.
He circles my clit slowly, watching me react as he stares into my eyes. He kisses my cheek, my shoulder, my neck. ‘Come on, lunch was over 15 minutes ago.’ He whispers in my ear. I roll my eyes at him as I tried to get myself ready again. He helps me where he can and I go back to my temporary desk in the corner of his room.
We sorted a few more papers out before Tommy and Arthur were bursting through the door telling us a man had sent a whore to kill Finn. We both laugh and explain he’s fine. Tommy looks at both of us, ‘I left you two alone for less than 24 hours and this is what you do’. He walks out with Arthur.
Part 2 anyone?

The Swimming Lesson
Tumblr media
Finn Shelby x Adeline (OC)
Summary: Adeline makes a terrible mistake when she underestimates the vengeful nature of the youngest Shelby brother.
Author's Note: A lovely anon requested a dark!Finn fic. I included the John love triangle bc it added motivation. I hope you enjoy it!
Warnings: dark fic 💀, drinking, misogyny, murder
“Finn, say something,” Adeline urged her friend, the confession of a budding relationship with his brother John still hanging in the air between them.
Attempting to forget the refusal of his kiss, Finn stopped pacing along the bank of the pond as an irresistible notion came to him. “Will you go for a swim with me?” he asked.
Adeline paused, “So, you’re not upset about John?”
Finn shook his head as he proclaimed, “I don’t want to talk about that anymore. I’d like to have some fun with you instead.”
Adeline held her breath as she felt him take her hand in his, wanting to believe he was happy for her. However, something cried out within her at the rough grasp of Finn’s touch, the distant look in his eyes which had turned dark as obsidian glass. “You want to go in there?” she asked carefully, raising one eyebrow in a look of uncertainty.
“Why not? Are you afraid?” Finn taunted with a mischievous grin.
She peered down into the cold, murky water and gulped. “You know I can’t swim."
“You going to let that stop you when you have me with you?” he urged. Placing a hand to her lower back, he pushed her closer to the uninviting water.
“I suppose a quick dip couldn’t hurt,” she conceded as she removed her shoes.
“That’s my girl,” Finn praised, relishing the sound of it on his tongue. He watched with lecherous delight as she stripped her stockings down her legs, discarding them beside her hat and shawl before tentatively slipping her toes beneath the water. Modestly gathering the hem of her white dress in one hand, she tip toed forward, a pathetic squeal escaping her lips as she felt a fish skim against her calf beneath the thick green algae.
Finn went first with his back to the pond, holding her hand as she ventured into his waiting arms. He was captivated by every intake of breath and needy squeeze of her fingers against his. She was at his mercy and he relished every second of it. When her foot faltered along the slimy bottom where it sloped downward into greater depths, she cried out “Finn, I’m slipping!”
“S’alright, I’ve got you,” he replied confidently, flexing the muscles in his arms for her benefit.
“Can’t go much further,” she warned, biting her lip. The look in her eye begged for understanding, a sliver of mercy, but Finn only tugged at her wrists more insistently.
“Let’s try a lesson, shall we?” he said with a look of amusement.
“No, no, please!” her voice trilled anxiously.
“C’mon, you’re a big girl, you can do it,” he insisted, hands moving to clutch her waist and pull her into the center of the pond with him. She released a frightened cry as he did so, grappling onto his shoulders as she felt herself become weightless.
“Finn! Finn, this isn’t funny!” she wailed, realizing she could neither see nor feel the bottom to ease her fears.
“Relax,” he commanded firmly as he pried her hands from around his neck. He chuckled inwardly at the way her nails clawed at his bare back and forearms, thinking of the suggestive tales he could tell.
Without warning, he turned her onto her back in one swift movement, hushing her whimpers as her hair dipped and swirled in the water. “I taught all my nieces and nephews this way,” he informed her, patting her dampened locks down gently. His fingers slowly crept along her arms, unfurling them from her chest so they reached out from her body like a crucifix. She couldn’t say if it was the chill from the water or his hands dipping perilously close to the curve of her breasts, but she shivered beneath his touch.
To her surprise she found herself floating easily, ears submerged below the water line listening to the muffled sound of her heartbeat thumping in her chest. Finn’s face hovered above her imposingly and a nervous twitch pulled at her cheeks. She watched Finn’s mouth moving out of synch with his words she could barely hear through cotton stuffed ears. Her brow furrowed as she tried to connect the words she thought he'd said, “I loved you." They made her chest rise and fall quickly with uneven breath, disturbing her balance. Something about the slight sneer of his lip and the intensity of his gaze made her tense suddenly, muscles clenching until her middle began sinking downward precariously.
Then Finn reached a large hand beneath her lower back to support her. With his opposite hand grasping under her chin, he elevated her face toward the heavens so she might breathe evenly again and she sighed in grateful relief. Eyes fluttering against the breeze, Finn swore she batted her lashes at him in that moment. “You’re so beautiful,” he couldn’t help mumbling, his Adam’s apple bobbing in desire. Despite their proximity, he wondered if he had actually said it aloud. The moment of perfect silence stretched on as he cradled her into him adoringly, not a ripple to be seen all around them.
The peace soon shattered with the force of Adeline’s impish laughter which forced her chin from his hold. Finn’s jaw clenched as he suffered the indignity of her rejection for the second time that day. The shred of affection for her dissipated with the faint echo of her voice as it skipped over the water. His resolve returned as he became more certain than ever of his decision.
Adeline bit her lip as she noted the look of displeasure cross his face and wiggled beneath Finn’s grasp.  Attempting to right herself in the water was a useless endeavor, however, as Finn kept her prostrated before him. Recapturing her cheeks with his long fingers, he pressed into her flesh slightly as he scolded, “Wait, we’re not finished." Then he queried softly, "Do you trust me?”
“I-I do,” she affirmed, not knowing how else to respond. She screwed her eyes shut in concentration before exhaling shakily, “What are you going to teach me?”
Finn smirked at her obedience, knowing she’d sink like a stone without his aid, her fate literally in his hands. Leaning over to brush his nose against the shell of her ear, he whispered, “Oh, this is a lesson you won’t forget.” He allowed himself a moment to savor the feeling of his lips pressed firmly to her temple the way he imagined he might after making love to her. He swallowed harshly as he realized that could never be. Adeline did not want him. The hours spent in her company had been a lie and he felt like a fool. With that thought, he released her to the murky depths where she belonged.
Her eyes shot open in abject fear as she felt herself falling, mouth gaping in shock as she felt his strong hands shove her toward a watery grave. The air from her lungs escaped to the surface in massive bubbles as she attempted to cry out. Arms and legs fumbling in uncoordinated panic, she resurfaced momentarily. Her hands desperately grasped for a hold, fingertips brushing Finn's ever so slightly. "Now you want me?" he taunted.
Swimming an arm's length away to watch the look of betrayal and horror on her face, he felt righteously vindicated. Closing his eyes, he listened to her jagged screams pierce the air, sending the birds from the trees in alert. Then he paddled back to the shore, barely registering her torturous fight, thrashing in the dark waters until exhaustion overtook her weakened body.
Sitting upon the muddy bank, he witnessed her final struggle as she silently slipped beneath the algea, white dress billowing above her like a cloud. The ripples left behind by her futile attempt at survival, beating against the shore in one last, quiet protest. Finn’s breathing came calmly and evenly as he thought of walking home to sit by the fire. His sopping wet clothes clung to his body in the way her perfume still hovered in cloying sweetness and he longed to be rid of the sensation.
The late sun had gone, dipping below the horizon in tranquil undulations of pink and orange. As Finn looked over the hazy water with a blank stare, a surge of pride swept through him. The powerlessness he’d felt earlier, washed away with the mocking sounds of Adeline’s laughter. As he gathered his shirt and cap, he closed his eyes to relive the sounds of the splashing and screams, trying not to forget their satisfying melody.

I Know Him
(Platonic Alfie Solomons x step daughter reader) (Background Finn Shelby x Reader)
Summery: Alfie Solomons is in for a surprise one morning when his soon to be step daughter greets him with a hug. Which wasn't unusual in itself, but he never expected it to happen at Tommy Shelby's house... or while she was wearing Finn Shelby's clothes....
A/N: Hi Y'all! I don't think there are any TW's for this! I just wanted to write a fluffy and funny idea about Alfie realising his sweetheart's daughter is dating a Shelby and she's just absolutely oblivious to their past. Also as with all of my Finn stories both him and the reader are over 18. Enjoy! ❤️

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was dreaming.
Yes, that had to be it. She couldn't really be here could she? It wasn't really her was it? Smiling to him at seven in the morning at his friendliest enemy's house? In..... is that the little one's shirt?
He had to be dreaming. There was no other explanation to it.
At least that's what Alfie Solomons told himself once he saw his sweetheart's daughter waving at him when he walked in the front hall of Tommy Shelby's house that morning. Not only was she waving, but she was practically jumping up and down in excitement when she saw him, eager to see the man who would be her stepfather one day....
"ALFIE!! Is that you!!! Hi!!! What are you doing here?! My mum said you had a trip this week!"
Bouncy Excitement? Speaking at sonic speeds? Criminal amounts of energy for this early in the morning? Almost falling face first on the floor in her rush to hug him?..... Yep. This was his Y/N.
Automatically, Alfie returned the hug, something he'd grown more than accustomed to doing with his fiancée's daughter. Especially when it had been a few weeks since he'd seen you. You were born when your parents were fifteen, and now twenty years later, you were in your second year at a university, halfway between London and Birmingham. Your father had tragically died during the war, and it had taken your mother almost a decade to start dating again. And if by a storybook miracle, she'd fallen helplessly for the single, "semi-retired", grumpiest neighbor in Margret, who often walked with a cane and whose only friend seemed to be his dog. Three years ago they'd met one day when Cryil had lost his collar and you had found him sitting pitifully under a tree....not even two gardens down from his home. But you hadn't know then, and believing the dog to have no family, took him back to your house. It wasn't hard either, as soon you held out your hand, Cyril was up, eagerly following his "new master" and it wasn't until the next day Alfie showed up, having heard the familiar barking. He'd been searching for Cyril all night, only to finally hear his yapping not even two doors down. Furious at the idea someone had kidnapped his best friend, Alfie had come over, knocking angrily on the door, with half a mind to take up his "old" profession. But when the door opened, instead of a grisly old bastard, Alfie was met with the closest thing to an angel he'd ever seen. It wasn't just her beauty, but her voice and the kind way she looked at him that captivated the man. And then when he looked inside the house he'd seen another young woman, laughing as Cyril attempted to sit on her lap in the small chair. And he wouldn't realise it until a few months later, but that would be a sight Alfie wanted to see every morning. A year later, he'd officially started going around with your mother, though the secret was well kept from any of his business associates. Alfie also saw the younger woman herself as his own child now too. He'd even taking to calling you "Shiny" after your sunny disposition. He wouldn't admit it, but Alfie definitely teared up, more than once, on the first day the couple dropped you off at your University. He also wouldn't admit how he'd never been more nervous than six months ago when he'd asked you for permission to propose. You had obviously said yes, but not before staring at him silently for six minutes with a gaze that could make any Shelby break into a sweat. Speaking of Shelbys ....
"Y/N why are you hugging Alfred Solomons?"
Alfie looked up at the stairs and saw not one, but at least four (and a half) different Shelby watching him from the stairs. Now he could have chosen to make fun of the mess that was Arthur's hair, but instead he focused on someone else. Because Arthur's hair may have look like a drunken bird's nest, but it was Finn Shelby who'd spoken.... And it was Finn Shelby wearing the matching pants to your shirt. So it was Finn Shelby who was currently in a lot more danger than he was five minutes ago. Truthfully, Alfie had only talked to the young man twice and hadn't been bothered by the quiet Shelby too much. In fact, he might even go as far to say the he favoured Finn the most because he'd talked to him the least. And the more the Shelbys talked to Alfie, the less he began to like them. But the sight before Alfie was enough to send Finn Shelby right to the top of the "excruciatingly painful death" hit list he promised your mother he'd "lost" long ago.
"FINN! Look! It's Alfie! I've told you about him haven't I?"
Finn himself was still half asleep, but he'd heard your surprised shout from the bedroom when you went to the bathroom and wanted to make sure you were alright. Only he thought he was still dreaming when he saw you embracing the man who had caused his family so much trouble before. Evidently, your excitement had been brought to more than one Shelby's attention and now he was standing with Arthur, Linda, Lizzie (holding Ruby), and John at the top of the stairs. All half awake and just as confused. Most of them were wondering if this was going to be another Grace situation.... But you hadn't noticed any of that yet. Hurrying up the stairs, you'd grabbed Finn's hand and brought the still tried younger man down to "meet" Alfie. Once the two men were situated in front of each other, you spoke the words that shocked both of them wide awake.
"Finn meet Alfie, my step dad. And Alfie meet Finn, my Boyfriend."
"STEP DAD?"
"BOYFRIEND!!!"
"Ahhh yes!! Isn't it great!! You two get to meet for the first time!! Ohh you'll love each other so much!!"
Oblivious to the shock of your companions, you bounced on the balls of your feet, eager for your favourite two men to finally meet. From the top of the stairs, John had rushed off to wake up Esme and Ada, while Linda was coaching Arthur through breathing again. Lizzie just sipped her tea silently as baby Ruby clapped at the drama. Finn stared at the floor, trying to process what he'd just heard. In the end, it was Alfie whose shock was broken first.
"No."
The bouncing stopped and it was your turn to look at Alfie confused.
"What do you mean no?"
"You're not dating him Shiny."
"Yes, I am."
"No, you're not."
"Yes, Alfie I am." You said it as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"You're dating him?"
"Yes!"
"Did they kidnap you? Are they forcing you to say this?"
"No?"
"You sure?"
"Pretty sure I'm not kidnapped?"
"He asked you out and you agreed?"
"He took me for dinner and a movie!"
"You agreed to be with him?"
"Eagerly!"
"You and him?"
"Him and I!"
"Him?"
"Yes! Isn't he brilliant!"
Eagerly, you looked towards your boyfriend who looked offend by the fact Alfie didn't seem to believe you could ever have any interest in him. Sure, Finn occasionally questioned it himself multiple times a day, but still. Though you payed no attention to his annoyance and wrapped your arms around your love, happily hugging him to yourself. Then you turned around facing your soon to be step father again, with Finn's arms still wrapped comfortably around your waist as they had been when you'd woken up that morning.
"Why?"
"What do you mean why Ally? He's brilliant! He's nice and strong and respectful. He takes me on fun dates and he listens to me. He lets me hug and kiss him whenever I want and he's not afraid to tell me how he feels, though it did take a bit to get to that part! He lets me hold his hand and steal his shirts and he doesn't mind it when I ramble a lot. And there's a whole bunch more too but that's just the tip. I ran into him at a race with my friends one day and we just clicked. Isn't it great! He treats me exactly how you treat my mom and I think that's brilliant! Finn's brilliant!"
Alfie froze for a second thinking about his options. On one hand you obviously knew nothing about what the Shelby really did for work and must not have realised what you were getting yourself into. On the other hand, you were one of the smartest people Alfie knew, and if Finn really did treat you like Alfie treated your mother, you'd know about his past by the second date... And you'd chosen to accept that. Alfie didn't know which idea scared him more. But right now he could see something else. You were happy....Very happy. Genuinely happy, in the fact you looked at Finn the same way your mother looked at Alfie... Shit you were in love with him. You loved Finn Shelby. And despite the sleep deprived confusion over the boy's face, Alfie had noticed the little spark in Finn's eye that lit up then he'd seen you. Alfie had seen the way Finn had pulled you slightly closer when you'd spun in his arms. You loved Finn Shelby and it seemed he loved you too. Shit. So despite his general distaste for Shelbys, Alfie did the last thing he wanted to do....But he did it for you. Because just like did your mother he'd do anything to see you smile.
"Well then gingersnap. If you treat my girl that nicely... then I guess it's alright to meet you isn't it?"
Somewhat begrudgingly, Alfie stuck his arm out toward the younger man. Finn stared at the arm, hesitantly, as if the moment he touched it, Alfie would pull him on to a knife. And truth be told, if he'd known it wouldn't make you mad, Alfie may have done that. But seeing your beaming grin, made shaking hands worth it. The hidden wince on Finn's face as Alfie increased his grip also seemed to get the unspoken message threat across. One tear from you and every peace deal between the families would be off. And all types of retribution would be fair game.... if your mother didn't get rid of Finn first that was.
 And finally it seemed Finn had processed your earlier words. He had also noticed your eager face and wanted to proceed with caution, careful of crushing your spirits. Obviously you'd mistaken Alfie for your real stepdad? The man you told Finn about so much couldn't possibly be the one who'd thrown his oldest brother in jail and betrayed Tommy every other weekend? Ada and Esme had joined the "observation deck"(second floor balcony) now, and John had gotten his gun incase things went south. Tommy was still no where to be seen.
"Y/N?"
"Yeah Finny?"
"You said this is your step dad?"
"Yes.... well technically not for a few more months, but the wedding is soon and he's basically already it!"
"Right...but Y/N? You said your step dad was a nice older man who lived by the sea? He's a bit grumpy, but really sweet and likes to make model boats?"
"Yeah he does! This is him! You'll get along great!"
It was Alfie's turn to look slightly offended now. He wasn't that old, and it also occurred to him that while he told your mother about his "past" job, Alfie had never actually explained it to you. You genuinely thought Alfie was a retired baker. Sure, every now and then he'd tell you he was heading to London to consult another friend who was still in business, but that was it. And since you weren't raised in the big city, you really had no knowledge about Alfie's old job. Suddenly, he was dreading the imminent conversation more than ever before.
"This is him? Are you sure?"
"Yep! I think I know what the guy banging my mum looks like Finny. Not that I ever see it...ew... but you know, Cyril doesn't get locked out of the master bedroom for anything!"
It was a good thing Alfie still had his beard because it helped hide the slight reddening of his cheeks and ears then. It wasn't that he was embarrassed about repeatedly making love to such a magnificent women, it was one of his proudest achievements actually...... but there was something about the fact her daughter knew that made him want to hide... just a little bit. Finn's face also turned red at the mention of Alfie's physical love life.
"Alright love, I believe ya. Just no more about his bedside manner alright? I don't wanna picture that."
"And I don't think I want you picturing it witchy."
"Finally!!," you cheered, clapping your hands quietly, happy both men finally seemed to understand what was going on. But then it brought you to your next question.
"Alfie?.... Why are you here though?.... oh please don't tell me my mum sent you to pick me up?"
"What no, your mum wouldn't do that...wait she knows you're here? What's she got to say about the lanky carrot top here? And how long has this been going on?" Alfie used his fingers to point between your shirt and Finn's pants, indicating what specifically the last sentence meant. Slightly tired of all the questioning you sighed.
"I called her last night to tell her. It was too late to go back to my apartment and Finn said I could stay here. His brothers were fine with it too....ohh have you met them? I think you'd like Arthur! He likes boxing too, ya know!....but she knows. Also don't call him the lanky carrot top, that's mean. And it's been going on for almost a year now. Not the sleepovers, but the dating bit. We met right before summer break and you know....kept meeting up."
"A fucking year! Hell Shiny, when were you gonna tell us?" Alfie was shocked once again. You'd been dating Finn a whole year and hadn't mentioned it? A small part of him was hurt too, that you hadn't told him yet. He vividly remembered only a couple years ago, when you'd barge into his house looking for Cyril and just start telling him all about your day. Finn stood by just watching the observation, rubbing his red hair self consciously. It wasn't even that red, was it?
"ALMOST a year, and to be fair we hadn't make it official until a few months ago. I just didn't mention it because I wasn't sure if he was really into me or not....But he was, which is great! And I actually told my mom last month and she said I could bring Finn over next weekend maybe to meet him. She was suppose to tell you.... OHH WAIT! I have an idea!"
You were bouncing again, pleased with your new plan. Your mum said you could invite Finn to the house next week, and even though from your calls she seemed to like him, you knew she wasn't just gonna let him slide right into your bed....figuratively speaking. You were her only child and knew she wanted to make sure you were being treated right, so you figured she'd be a bit hard on him at first. When speaking on the phone last week, you'd also overheard her asking Alfie if he'd mind coming over early that day. You knew she wanted him around for a bit more intimidation. The big, dark, grisly figure standing in the shadows, while she interrogated Finn about his intentions. But maybe this unexpected meeting could work in your favour.
"This is great!! Since you and Finn have just met, and you seem to get along great, you can help me show him off to my mum next week! You can vouch that's he's as good as he looks!"
Alfie just stared at you.
There wasn't a single world in which he wanted to positively vouch for any Shelby. Especially one who apparently thought it was acceptable to get within ten feet of you..... without a shirt too. But then again, you had this slightly infuriating way of looking at Alfie. One smile and he was suddenly letting you paint fucking flowers on his fence to brighten the front yard or blowing up who knows what in his backyard. He really did give you too much power sometimes...
"You want me to vouch for him!"
"Yes, I mean you don't have anything against him do you?"
"Fucking actually..."
"What the hell is going on?"
Finally, Tommy showed up, his boots slightly dirty from the barn outside. He'd woken up early to check on the pregnant mare. Only he came back inside to find almost his entire family staying in the front hall, in their pyjamas, along with Y/N and Alfie. The latter of whom he didn't realise was up. If he'd known Alfie was awake, Tommy would have skipped the horse today. If only to insure Alfie didn't go rummaging around. On top of that, Alfie was shooting Finn a glare, hard enough to make Tommy shiver, not that he showed it. What his youngest brother had done to deserve that baffled him, but Tommy had some idea it had to do with the young woman grinning ear to ear.
"Well?"
"Oh! Morning Tommy! Have you met Alfie? He's my stepdad!"
Tommy's nose wrinkled slightly and his lips drew into a thin line. But his eyes went wide and his brows furrowed in confusion. That was probably the last thing he'd expected to hear that morning.
"What?"
This time it was John who spoke up from the top of the stairs, eager to see more drama.
"Yep Tom! This one here is the spawn of Alfie's soon to be missus! Isn't that something?"
Tommy looked at you, and then Alfie, and then you again, then Finn, and finally back to you. Not because he didn't like you, but because he remembered the past, Tommy glared at you lightly.
"Are you a fucking spy? Because I won't have you going around with Finn if you're going to be sharing everything to Alfie here. And you better tell the fucking truth."
Surprised and slightly scared by his change in tone, you took a step back. Despite his reputation, Tommy had always been nice to you, if not a bit reserved like he was with most people. So hearing his "boss" voice was a bit jarring. Annoyed by his tone towards you, Finn and Alfie both stepped forward, glaring at the man who had spoken. You stared in confusion at Tommy for a second, before shrugging and laughing like he'd told a joke.
"Spy? I'm not a spy. What are you talking about Tommy? That's a funny joke though. Y/N the spy.... na I'm a terrible liar. Can't keep a straight face for the life of me. But why would I spy on you for Alfie? He's got nothing to do with the races or any shipping company like you run. It wouldn't make sense for me to share all your plans with him."
Behind you, both Alfie and Finn were drawing lines across their necks with a hand. The universal symbol for "don't say a fucking thing, change the subject", but it may have already been too late. You had glanced behind yourself to see if Finn had liked your joke and noticed the cutting motions of the two men. Suddenly your eyes widened, and you started looking between Alfie and Tommy, and then Alfie and the rest of the Shelbys. It was like a light flipped in your head and internally, Alfie winced at what might occur. But once again you surprised all of them.
"Wait! Are y'all working together!!.... Oh y'all do know each other! Alfie why didn't you just stay that in the first place? I wouldn't have made you shake Finn's hand again. That's why you're here isn't it? Y'all have business together? Are ya partners?"
Alfie cleared his throat and prepared to tell you the inevitable. Sure, he knew he should tell you he was a semi retired gangster, but he was slightly worried when you learned, you wouldn't look at him the same way anymore. He was afraid you'd be a bit scared of him, and for all intents and purposes, Alfie didn't want his kid to be scared of him.
"Well, Shiny... yes we are working together. You see..."
"OHH I KNEW IT! Are you gonna start selling bread at the races? I think that would be a great idea!! Like alcohol is great, but it would be so nice to have a muffin or something too.... OH OH OH ... I know! Alfie you should sell your sugar rolls! Finn you have to try them they're so good....Alfie has this special apron he wears when making them."
Alfie groaned at the mention of the pink apron your mother had gotten him last holiday. You really were just revealing all his secrets weren't you? And he couldn't even wack you over the head like he'd do with anyone else.... Finn process your words and then stared grinning as big as you were. He loved it when you started to go off on a tangent. After all it was a brilliant idea too. Finn always got hungry during the races. He was always hungry in general, but the anticipation of what horse would win made him hungrier than usual.
"That is a good idea! I get hungry at those and they never have any snacks. Why don't we do that Tom?"
Tommy just furrowed his brows again, completely lost to what was going on. That was one thing he realised when he first met you. See Finn, when given the chance to speak, could jump from topic to topic within minutes and never seemed to go on a straight path. You did the exact same thing....but much much more. And while it was amusing to watch at times, it could get dizzying when you and your boyfriend went round and round in circles. And if they didn't stop it quick, this would be one of those times.... It was too early in the morning for that. So Tommy interrupted.
"Yes! That's exactly what we're doing. That's why he's here. To make plans to sell bread at the races."
It was a lie of course, but even Tommy could respect Alfie's wish to tell you on his own time. Besides, it wasn't actually a bad idea. Alfie nodded his head in agreement like they hadn't planned on robbing a train last night.
"Yep Shiny, you got us. I remembered you mentioning it once, and thought why not see if I could pitch the idea. Didn't know you'd be here though. Kinda ruins the surprise so just promise to act like you didn't know. Be as sightful as my half blind eye yeah?"
Laughing, your rolled your eyes at your stepfather's joke, before yawning into Finn's chest. The early morning hour was starting to get to you again. You really had only come to use the bathroom before noticing Alfie. Now you just wanted to get back in the warm bed for a bit longer.
"Deal, alright. I can keep my lips shut. But only if you also add the knot shaped chocolate pastries to the menu too! Those are my favourite."
Finn's stomach interrupted the conversation causing the both of you to laugh. Even the mention of food was enough to bring his appetite back. Turning to your boyfriend you hugged him again, revelling in the warmth you loved to burrow into. Standing on your toes, you reached up to whisper in his ear and he smiled softly before nodding back. You turned to the rest of the room and addressed Tommy.
"Welp this was nice, but can we go raid your pantry please? It's been at least seven hours since this one's eaten, so soon he'll start to shrivel up."
Good-naturedly, Tommy rolled his eyes, he knew it was Finn sneaking around the kitchen only three hours ago. He was the only one who closed up the bags of food he stole from by placing another bag over the messily folded edges when he couldn't get a knot tied in the dark again. Finn was also the only one who made peanut butter and pickle sandwiches, leaving the dirty knife and plate in the sink for the next morning.
"That's fine, you two can go off, Alfie and I here have to finish a few details for the deal."
Giving Alfie another quick hug, you and Finn headed off leaving the rest of the company in the main hall. His arm was around your shoulder and they could see you laughing at something Finn whispered in your ear. Alfie watched for a moment. Maybe this wouldn't be too bad. At least you hadn't stated dating Sabini's nephew.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the top of the stairs Arthur leaned over to John.
"Does this mean we can't slash his tires anymore?"
".....Eh probably."
"Fuck, was looking forward to that."
Inspired by the song Villains by Stella Jang
We all pretend to be the heroes on the good side
But what if we're the villains on the other
A/N: You guys really love Peaky stuff, and I love writing it.
TW: Physical and verbal abuse
“Y/N!” Finn called as you turned into the alley.
“Hey,” you said as you got up to him, “What’s up?”
“Tommy gave me a special order…” he started, “And I want you to join me!”
“What does it imply exactly,” you asked, slightly worried.
You hadn’t known Finn for long, but you knew that an order from Tommy could range from spying to almost killing someone.
“Come on Y/N, can’t you just say yes without asking questions for once?”
“I just don’t like it when people get hurt, and you know that,” you retorted.
“It will be fun, just say yes.”
“I just want to make sure no one will get hurt…”
Because someone always eventually ended up getting hurt. And you couldn’t let it happen anymore, not without saying something.
You liked Finn. You liked him a lot. From the moment you met him, you knew he wasn’t like his brothers. You knew there was a softer side to him and maybe, just maybe, you could help him embrace that side. Not completely, because you grew to like his more chaotic and risk-taking side, but just enough for him to keep out of trouble. He had potential, so much wasted potential. If only he could see himself the way you saw him.
“Including us,” you added, “You can at least tell me that, can’t you?”
“Tommy was right,” he grumbled.
“What was that?” you asked.
“Tommy was right!” he said louder, “You’re probably working with the coppers!”
Your heart dropped in your chest.
How could he know? There was no way he could know. You took every precaution, followed everything your father told you. He couldn’t know your father was spying on the Peaky Blinders and it was impossible for Finn to know you were helping him.
“What? What are you saying?” you asked, trying your best to hide your concern, “What did Thomas say?”
“Like I’m gonna tell you! If you’re working with the cops, I shouldn’t even be talking to you!”
“Finn… come on, I’m not working with them, you got to believe me.“
That was true, you weren’t working per se with the cops.
“Tommy knows your dad, Y/N! Stop lying! He told me he was a spy during the war. And a bloody good one!”
“So what, my dad was a spy! What does this have to do with me? With us!”
“Wanna talk about what happened in Ireland?”
You didn’t know what to say.
“Or in London? No, uhh! You’re working for him, Y/N. You’re infiltrating criminal gangs, cause no one would suspect you, just for him to take them down. He’s using you!”
‘You’re right’ you wanted to scream, ‘My dad is using me. I never asked for any of this… and I genuinely like you…’ but you couldn’t, you wouldn’t, say that.
“Finn…” you said taking a step towards him, “I… I really like… I like spending time with you… I… I would never do anything to hurt you, you have to believe me.”
You could feel tears filling your eyes, but you couldn’t cry. Not in front of him. You blinked to chase them as anger seemed to replace sadness.
“Really, you wouldn’t hurt me? Is that why you’re doing all this?”
“Finn, your brothers are hurting people! Just last week, a man died because of them. He left behind three children. The oldest was only 8 years old! How can you stand for that?”
“I don’t…” he started.
But you cut him. Somehow, you couldn’t understand why he was angry with you. You were on the right side after all. The Peakys and he were the ones doing illegal things and hurting people at the same time.
“And how can you expect me to stand for that, to just watch you follow that same path while doing nothing! I have morals! The Peaky Blinders are tearing families apart and I can’t just watch it happen!”
“How about my family!” he screamed at you, “Have you thought about that, uh? What do you think will happen to me once you put my brothers in prison!”
“Hey, not fair! I’m not the one putting them in prison, my dad is.”
“You’re helping him, same difference. But you didn’t answer my question, what happens to me!”
You didn’t know what to say. You hadn’t really thought about this. Maybe because you didn’t expect to actually get close to Finn or maybe because you knew it would hurt less when it eventually happened if you didn’t think about it.
“I’ll get left behind, that’s what’s gonna happen. I’ll be alone. Did you think of that? What you and your dad are doing isn’t better than what we’re doing. You’re the one tearing families apart!”
He turned around to leave, but not before you could see the tears in his eyes. You ran, trying to catch up with him. He turned around swiftly.
“We all pretend to be the heroes on the good side,” he yelled, “but what if we’re the villains on the other?”
He was right. Of course. But it was too late. There was nothing you could do to change his opinion of you. Still, you could warn him.
“Finn…” you said.
He turned around and came running towards you screaming.
“You’re a traitor Y/N, that’s your deal! Your moral code only holds up for what? ‘Good people’! You can pretend to be better than me all you want but I know, I know you’re no better!”
With that he turned around again, but not before pushing you so hard that you fell flat on the ground.
“Finn!” you cried out.
He stopped walking. That was good enough. That was your last chance.
“Don’t go to the festival tomorrow, please. Or at least, don’t bring any weapons.”
“How can I trust you?” he asked.
“You can’t. But I’m begging you,” you said tears in your eyes, “please, stay safe.”
And just like that, he left.
You knew that going back to your house was nothing but bad news, but there was nowhere else you could go. You didn’t know how, but your father had learned that you had warned Finn about going to the festival. Even if you were his most useful asset, he would never trust you, not completely. He never did and you knew it already. As soon as you stepped into your house and closed the door, all hell broke loose.
You had taken a few beatings before, but nothing like that night. As soon as your dad found you, his hand was around your neck, but it wasn’t long until your head hit the ground. Everything after that was kind of a blur. The physical beating wasn’t the worst part. Being called worthless was worse than a kick in the ribs. Being called a traitor was worse than every slap in the face you received. You knew the bruises would eventually fade, but every name and insult would take longer to heal, if not forever.
You couldn’t make it to the alley the next day. Not that it mattered since Finn was probably getting his ass arrested at the festival. Unless he had listened to you, which you were starting to doubt. How could he trust you to know that he knew the truth? You wouldn’t even trust yourself in this situation.
But you managed to get out of bed without too much difficulty the next day. Your father hadn’t come back after the festival which you interpreted as a successful mission on his part. Finn and the Peaky Blinders were probably in jail, waiting to be interrogated, right now. With your father being absent, it was easier to get out of the house. You were limping badly as one of your legs was covered in bruises and just putting weight on it was painful. Your breathing wasn’t too bad considering you probably had some broken ribs. Still, it took you twice the usual time to get to the alley.
Or maybe it took longer because you didn’t really know why you were going to the alley. You tried to convince yourself it was out of habit, you and Finn had met there every day for well over two months now, but it wasn’t really working.
As you finally got to the alley, it was empty. You looked around at the street you had learned to love. It felt empty now. You didn’t feel like waiting for someone who might never show up, but you couldn’t go back to your house now. And you needed the break. Your head was throbbing and you had trouble catching your breath. You sat down beside some crate, resting your back on the wall and hiding yourself from the people walking down the street. You closed your eyes but it was useless, tears were already running done your cheeks.
“Y/N,” someone called from the end of the alley.
It was Finn.
“Y/N,” he asked again, “Are you there?”
You couldn’t bring yourself to answer him.
“I just…” he started.
You could hear him sit down on the other side of the crate.
“I just wanted to thank you for warning me… I… I chose to believe you and it paid off. We went to the festival with no weapons and your dad went all out. Huge arrest that turned out to be for nothing and now they’re all blaming him for ruining the day. And the other cops aren’t too happy. They really looked like idiots out there! So, yeah, some thanks are in order I guess…”
“No problem,” you managed to croak.
“And Y/N,” he said.
“Mmmh?”
If it had been anyone else but Finn, you would probably have passed out. It felt like someone had poured scalding hot molten metal in your head. You couldn’t even tell if you were still crying.
“I guess I also wanted to apologize,” he said getting up, though you couldn’t hear him do that, “I… I’m blaming you for hurting me, for betraying me, but for all I know that’s exactly what I did yesterday.”
‘Except he had every right to feel betrayed and to do the same in return,’ you thought, ‘There was really poor logic to what he was saying. Or maybe the headache was turning his words into nonsense’
He was making his way around the crate, unbeknownst to you.
“I’m like your only friend here… and maybe you genuinely liked me, maybe all your father did was use you. That’s what I’m choosing to believe since you basically saved my ass, all of our asses yesterday,” he said, “So, can we make peace and shake on? Y/N!”
He had finally made it to your side of the crate.
“Y/N! Holy shit! What happened!”
You opened your eyes and smiled weakly, but couldn’t stop crying. You could see him kneeling by your side.
“I’ll be okay,” you managed to say.
“Okay? Okay! No, you won’t! Y/N, you’re shaking, you can barely keep your eyes open…”
“I have some broken ribs…” you added.
“You have some… what! What happened,” he asked again. “Y/N, did he do this? Did your father do this?”
You nodded.
“And your neck, Y/N,” he said softly, taking your chin in his hand and tilting your head slightly.
You could feel his other hand hovering above your neck. It wasn’t threatening like your father’s hand has been, yet you wished he wouldn’t touch it either.
Suddenly, you felt his hand wiping down a tear from your cheek. You leaned into it. It was cold but comforting. You stayed like that until you felt like you could open your eyes again. And when you did, Finn was smiling at you. Slowly, he wrapped his arm around your shoulders and helped you get on your feet.
“Do you feel like you can walk,” he asked.
“Yeah…” you said, but after only a few steps it felt like the ground gave way under your feet.
Luckily, Finn was quick enough to catch you.
“I’ll help you, okay? I’m getting you home Y/N.”
“Home?” you asked, not sure what he was referring to.
“Yeah, home with me. I’ll explain everything to Tommy. We’ll take care of you. You won’t ever have to see your father again.”
“Thank you,” you said, resting your head on his shoulder.
“No, thank you,” you heard him whisper.
