An artillery battery is a unit of cannons, missiles, and other weapons grouped to ensure command and control of the battlefield. In the 1860s, baseball statistician Henry Chadwick first described the teamwork of a pitcher and a catcher as a battery: the firepower of the staff.
DEMO TBA.
Before reaching the stardom of grand slams in Yankee Stadium or World Series shutouts, every professional baseball player was once where you are now: the Minor Leagues. Divided into levels from Rookie ball to Triple A, everyone working their way through the Minors has the same goal: to get promoted up to the Big Leagues. The Major Leagues. The Show. And you?
You are no exception.
You are the newest addition to the Double-A Okmulgee Pecans, a Minor League affiliate of the successful and storied Oklahoma City 66s. Surrounded by young, talented, hungry ballplayers, it’s your job to not only succeed in this competitive league, but stand out. As a catcher, you play one of the toughest positions in baseball— and the most important. Your chemistry with your pitchers and your team can make or break a play, an inning, or a whole game. With the constant eye of coaches, team management, and baseball fans on your back, will you find your swing? Can you help lead your team to victory? And can you keep yourself from getting distracted by the potential affections of those around you— or lean into them?
FIREPOWER is an upcoming interactive fiction novel about the love that lives in the infield dirt, the outfield grass, the diamond, and the dugout. In short: it’s about baseball, it’s about falling in love, and it’s about falling in love with baseball.
It is cautiously rated 18+ for themes and/or mentions of substance abuse, past traumas, and structural inequities in professional sports. Warnings will be toggle-able for potentially triggering scenes, which may be skipped.
FEATURES.
Customize your character’s appearance, handedness, and strengths in the game. Play as a man, woman, or nonbinary with options to be gay, straight, or bisexual.
Play through competitive at-bats, bat in your teammates and hit powerful home runs. Make skillful defensive plays; throw out runners trying to steal bases and tag runners out at home with quick reflexes.
Catch bullpens one-on-one with your pitchers to build your chemistry— on the field and off of it. Become a better catcher, and make them better too.
Lead a locker room and become part of a tight-knit team aiming for victory— and maybe a promotion.
Flirt with and romance any combination of your pitchers, other teammates, or the competent Front Office intern. Choose the gender of 2 out of the 4 ROs.
ROMANCE OPTIONS.
JJ Kim (gender selectable). 23. A rising star pitcher who is almost, but not quite, the team’s ace. Has a temper that has gotten them ejected from a couple games, but uses that intensity towards being the best on the mound. Friendly, but soon it becomes clear they’re difficult to truly get to know.
Olivia Lawson (f). 25. The cheeky second baseman who, despite her unflappably positive attitude, is aching to prove herself. A locker room leader and part of the Pecans for two years, she’s seeking a standout season and wants nothing but the best from her teammates. A cheerful, loyal presence underscored by fiery determination and grit.
Hirohito Kinoshita (m). 24. The best pitcher on the team by a long shot. A rising star who previously played professionally in Japan before signing as a free agent in the offseason. It’s widely assumed that he’ll be in the Major Leagues in the next year or two. Sarcastic, cocky, and kind of an asshole, with a genuine curiosity for his new home.
Dakota “Junie” McIntosh (gender selectable). 22. A college senior and D1 athlete trying their hand at baseball administration on the off chance they don’t get drafted. Though they pitched in high school, they now exclusively play shortstop, but at the moment all they’re playing with is paperwork and Excel formatting.

Title: The Colliding Worlds of Mina Lee Author: Ellen Oh Genres: Contemporary, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Romance Pages: 305 Publisher: Crown Books for Young Readers Review Copy: eARC provided via NetGalley Availability: Available now
Summary: Mina has become the hero of her own story. Literally.
When Mina Lee woke up on Saturday morning for SAT prep, she did NOT expect
Nearly be fried by a superhero who turned out to be a supervillain.
Come face to face with Jin, the handsome boy of her dreams.
Discover a conspiracy involving the evil corporation Merco that she created.
And it’s all happening in her fictional world. Mina is trapped in the story she created. Now it’s up to her to save everyone. Even if it means losing Jin forever.
From the award-winning author of Finding Junie Kim and co-founder of We Need Diverse Books, Ellen Oh. In the speculative fiction adventure Colliding Worlds, a teenage artist grapples with her first love, grief, and learning how to take charge of her own life.
Review: [The Colliding Worlds of Mina Lee contains scenes describing human medical experimentation that, while not graphic, could be unsettling for some readers. Grief is also a present theme, as Mina’s mother’s died three years ago, and the Jin in the webcomic is based on a childhood friend who died of cancer.]
If you’ve ever enjoyed a webcomic where a “real world” person ends up in a fantasy world, you should give The Colliding Worlds of Mina Lee a chance. It’s a solid example of the genre while still being able to have a bit of fun with the medium itself through meta moments like Mina realizing that something big will almost definitely happen at a school dance—just because it’s a school dance, and she’s in webcomic set at a high school. A lot of tropes, events, and characters get played straight or played around with in entertaining ways, and I enjoyed Mina’s lampshading throughout.
Mina and Jin were the stars of the book, and they had a sweet, sincere webcomic romance. I enjoyed their banter and their teamwork, and Mina was a lot of fun as a narrator. I liked watching her figure out how her powers worked as the webcomic’s creator, and her commentary on genre conventions and other meta gave the story a lot of flavor. Much of the supporting cast was fairly simple, though, and I do wish there had been more time to flesh them out—especially the character that was supposed to be the hero before Mina arrived in the webcomic world.
I would consider The Colliding Worlds of Mina Lee to fall on the younger end of the YA spectrum due to its writing style and breezy pace. Some of the horror isn’t as deeply explored as I would expect in an older YA, like Mina’s powers to (accidentally) force the webcomic people to conform to her storyline or the medical/body horror inherent in the villain’s schemes. That said, the book doesn’t shy away from the heavier topics of parental loss—Mina’s mother’s death is still a significant influence on Mina and her father’s lives. I also appreciated the juxtaposition of Mina’s parents’ absences: her mother to death, but present in her art; and her father to work, but present in his worry about Mina’s future.
Recommendation: Get it soon if the premise appeals to you. Ellen Oh’s The Colliding Worlds of Mina Lee is a fun, comfortable high school adventure with a dose of entertaining meta on top. There are some places I wish had been explored more, but the novel is a solid entry in this genre. I finished the novel wanting to read more stories like it, and that’s a sign of a satisfying story.

To What Could Have Been
Tumblr media
Wen Junhui x afab!reader
Warnings: Angst, sad, one-sided love,
Summary: Jun stands on the sidelines, dreaming of what could have been, as he watches the love of his life falling in love with someone else. So, to get over her. He writes a song.
Please reblog!
Requests open! For all groups, including SVT
Jun’s POV
(Y/n) is the prettiest girl in the world, at least in my eyes. No one shines like her. She’s like the sun. Her pretty (e/c) eyes, her soft hair, her smooth skin. I’ve known her for a couple of years, and we quickly became good friends. But I have since day three of knowing her, wished we would be more than just friends. I fell in love with her quickly, how could I not? She’s amazing, so kind, and cute. I know I sometimes act like a child, especially when I’m around my big group of guy friends. We have a tendency to act like 5-year-olds, but she just laughs and calls me cute, she even joins in most times. She usually smiles so brightly during those times and when the nights become late and the weather becomes cold, she always cozied up to me for warmth and love. Having her close to me is like a dream.
One of my absolute favorite memories with her was a late October night, we were having a movie night when suddenly (Y/n) said that we should go out on the balcony. Like a puppy I just followed her outside, whatever she wanted, I would always give her what she wants. Call me a simp, but what can I say? I love her too much. As we stood out there, on the balcony, we looked up at the sky that was filled with stars. “Look Jun, there is Scorpio, oh and-” I stopped watching the sky and looked back at the girl beside me. The way her eyes were sparkling with excitement and happiness. I also noticed how she was just dressed in a t-shirt, her body was slightly shaking from the cold, without hesitation I pulled off my sweatshirt and nudged her arm. “Hey, it’s cold. Put this on, you’ll catch a cold otherwise, you know you catch those easily,” She took the shirt from me and put it on. “Thank you, Junie, come here, you’ll be cold too,” And so she pulled me closer so I ended up standing behind her, with my arms wrapped around her waist, and there we stood for 15 minutes. Even though I was freezing cold by then, it was worth it.
For the last two years, I have been trying to find the courage to tell her I like or love her. But I was too late.
* A few weeks ago *
The entire morning had been thinking of how I should confess to (Y/n). I know her favorite flower is (flower), so I could buy a bouquet of those and give them to her or I could buy her that plant that she’s been talking about for ages but never seems to actually buy. She’d definitely prefer the plant, as it will last way longer than a bouquet, but I bet I’ll end up taking care of it either way because she’ll forget about it sometimes. I couldn’t help but smile at the thought.
Suddenly, my phone rang. I picked it up and found (Y/n)’s contact picture staring back at me. “Hey there cutie,” “Hey, Jun! I have some really exciting news, sit down,” I sat down on my couch, “Okay, I’m sitting,” “Okay, I’M GOING ON A DATE!!!” I was shocked, so shocked I almost dropped my phone. “What? - erhm, What?!?” Without thinking I first said ‘what’ with a disappointed tone, but quickly cleared my throat before saying it again with fake excitement. “I know, isn’t it crazy?” “Yeah, um. Who are you going with?” “Oh, I’m going with Kim Youngbin,” “he’s a dancer and a rapper right?” “Yes! He’s so handsome and so nice, we’re gonna go to a café and then maybe to a karaoke place,” My heart dropped, I couldn’t smile, I was seconds away from crying. “That sounds nice, I’m sure it will be fun. I have to go, Minghao is knocking on the door, we have some work to do,” “Oh, okay. Say hi to Hao from me, byeeee. Love you!” “I love you too,” And so we hung up the call. If only (Y/n) knew just how much I meant it when I said that I loved her. I laid down the phone on the coffee table before I let the tears run down my face.
And that was it. One date turned into five, into fifteen, into them becoming official. I was too late. Too caught up in dreaming about what could have been. Seeing (Y/n) with Youngbin was hard because I couldn’t help but wish she was with me. I couldn’t be too mad with Youngbin though, he treated (Y/n) like a princess, just like she deserves, but I knew I could have treated her better.
* Back to the present *
A few weeks have passed now and it still hurts just as much seeing her in the arms of someone else. But I didn’t distance myself like anyone else probably would, I couldn’t do that to her, she would be too hurt and I can’t hurt her. During these weeks, Woozi helped me compose my first solo song. I have done a couple of projects with my friends previously but never anything by myself, just me. I wrote about my heartbreak, about what I wish (Y/n) and I could have been, while still trying to keep a happy tone. This was my love letter, the ending to these feelings and these daydreams. Once I release this song, I’ll start working on getting over (Y/n).
* The day the song is released *
“WOW JUN! I can’t believe that you’re releasing your first solo!” (Y/n) was jumping around with her usual big and bright smile, so excited for me, her best friend. I took one last glance at her while thinking how it would have felt to kiss her. This is the last time, this is the end. “Yes! JUN, let’s go! Show us this masterpiece!” I stood up and cleared my throat, looking at all my close friends, and Youngbin, “Thank you all for being here to celebrate my first solo project. I also want to give a special thanks to Woozi who helped me compose and produce the song. Now, for the first time ever… Let’s listen to my song! Cheers!” And so we all raised our glasses in the air while shouting with excitement. And so, I clicked play on the track letting everyone listen to the song.
“But this is the end. Our last day. These thoughts shall be no more, I know I have to let go. I’ll give one last cheer, one last time, so here we go. Here’s, To what could have been,”
(This is, to my knowledge, not a real song. Any resemblance to any existing song is purely coincidental,)
I think all the boys, even Youngbin, knew who the song was about but if (Y/n) figured it out she didn’t let it show. She simply, gave me a hug while blabbering on about how good the song is. But then she let go of the hug and walked back to Youngbin, giving him a hug and a kiss. I pushed away the feelings of regret and jealousy and instead tried to think of how good they looked together. Minghao came up to me, “Hey, it’s okay. You did the right thing, you’ll find someone else. And you will always be her best friend,” “I know. Thanks, Hao. I’ll try to move on,” And so he gave me a pat on the back with an encouraging smile. Yeah, this is the end. The last day. I walked to the kitchen, filling up my glass once again, cheering to myself. To what could have been.

{ CLOVER, 21, CST, SHE/THEY } —— welcome to infinite entertainment! it's JUNIPER 'JUNI' KIM, who is the MAIN VOCAL of ESTELLA. i’ve heard whispers that the TWENTY-TWO year old is pretty IDEALISTIC but lowkey SUPERFICIAL. also, doesn’t she remind you of JEON SOMI?
hello !! my name is clover ( she/they, cst ) & i am the mun of juniper 'juni' kim !! under the cut i have a brief history and a personality description as well as a few plot ideas for miss juni !! please give this a like if you'd like to plot with juniper, i promise she's not as superficial as she might seem ( kinda lol )
pinterest board !!
THE SPARKNOTES
juniper yewon kim was born in san francisco, california, usa on june 16th of 2001 (making her a gemini sun with an aries moon and a virgo rising) to two loving parents as well as an older brother and an older sister.
her parents were very much modern day (at the time) hippies, teaching their kids about love and acceptance from the day they were born.
juniper was a generally happy and bubbly child known to her family and friends for her adoration of music. from a young age, her parents joked that she'd one day be famous.
school was especially challenging for her, throughout her childhood she'd get in trouble for not turning in homework or talking during class. she was eventually diagnosed with attention deficit disorder.
this diagnosis lead to her being put in classes that provided extra help to kids with learning disabilities, this caused her to feel insecure about her level of intelligence even at the age of nine years old.
with her doubt in her intelligence, she began to embrace her love for music and asked to be put in singing lessons. her parents being the people they were signed her up before she could even finish her question.
it soon became clear she had a natural talent for not only singing, but performing. when she was focused on music and performing she didn't have to worry about people questioning how smart she was.
her junior year of high school she went on a trip to south korea to visit her extended family. one day, she went out shopping and got scouted by infinite.
her parents, despite their support up to this point, were very hesitant about juniper taking this opportunity. they didn't feel comfortable with juniper leaving everything behind to go do something that could possibly never pan out.
however, they caved after seeing how badly juniper wanted to give it a try. while training, she lived with her grandma who helped her become more fluent in korean.
after four years of training, juniper made her debut as the main vocalist ( and baby ) of estella !!
THE BAD BITCH HERSELF
juniper is very easygoing, always choosing to see the best in people and is never one to rock the boat.
she's been pretty popular with her peers her whole life, always having a solid group of friends around her.
definitely more intelligent than she thinks she is, sometimes she'll subconsciously act dumb as a self fulfilling prophecy of others thinking she's not the brightest star in the sky.
juniper is an independent thinker and is very opinionated despite her rarely voicing these opinions.
she is confident in who she is and her interests, she's very into the occult and all things relating to the paranormal or horror. ask her about her opinion on any horror movie and she'll give you a 352 slide powerpoint about what the film does well and what it lacks.
she's generally competitive and finds good fun in competition until she starts losing. then all hell breaks loose.
circling back to her never rocking the boat, this includes problems she has with people. she'll often go to others to vent or rant which is often interpreted as her being two faced and superficial. she knows this and doesn't really care. if you don't like it, that's your problem. not hers.
she HATES routine, this is one of her least favorite things about being an idol. she prefers to have freedom and do what she wishes as she pleases. she usually just wants to stay home and watch all of the saw movies in a row in a dark room.
she's a very jealous person when it comes to relationships ( platonic and romantic ) and will often do things to hurt her own feelings.
she's extremely animated in how she talks, people usually either love this or hate this about her. it's a 50/50 thing.
juniper is a drama queen in every sense of the word ( i know it's two but that's not the point ) and will exaggerate most stories just to make them more interesting.
juniper is the type of person to tell someone white lies to spare their feelings, she sees this as the kind thing to do which in most cases isn't the right thing to do.
CONNECT WITH THE BAD BITCH
BABY SQUAD!! a group of people who are around her age who she hangs out with.
a gossip buddy, ideally someone as dramatic as she is to match the energy.
perhaps opposite personality friends?? "someone will die." "of fun!" kind of thing
maybe an ex best friend who still shares a bunch of mutual friends w her so they have to be civil with each other.
ride or die!!! please
someone who loves horror movies and will watch them with her for hours!!
on the other hand, someone who hates horror movies but somehow always gets talked into watching them with her.

Review:
When a teenage artist gets sucked into her own web comic she finds herself falling for a boy who strangely reminds her of someone she used to know and fighting against her own protagonist who has turned evil. Inspired by the A-ha's "Take on Me" music video, the story follows Mina Lee, a teenager who dreams about going to art school and pursuing art just like her mother before she passed away. She begins working on a web comic... only to suddenly wake up inside of it! Mina does not expect to be here at all or to be falling for the main love interest she wrote.. except he is based off her own childhood best friend who passed away... and now he's here again and she can be with him.... the only problem is that her protagonist has turned evil and will destroy anyone who gets close to him, did I also forget to mention in this world people are gifted with powers. Mina is trapped in the story she created and has to save everyone, but the real question is, will she go back to her own world if it means losing Jin forever? This was a really fun read and I enjoyed it! It's a unique story and the romance was cute. It's definitely a book I'd rec for anyone who enjoys fun adventurous romances!

For the fanfic emoji ask 💕: ⏳, 🛒, 🤡
Hi Juni!
💞 Who's your comfort character? Jumin Han, though his best friend Jihyun Kim is a very close second. Many a daydream has been conjured of these two.
⌛ How long does it take you to write a fic, or a chapter?
It really depends! I can churn out a short form fic (1-2k words) in a matter of a few hours. Or, a longer fic can take me weeks to put together. The last "full" fic I wrote, about 7k, took about 3 months, mainly because I lost focus and didn't write for a while. So I guess when I really put my mind to it, I can put a fic together within a week or so.
🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.
I use weather and seasons quite a lot in my storytelling. Not only to set the mood, but as a marker for time passing. I find that it really adds to the glow of a story and makes it feel more natural than just a simple break in the action.
🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?
I really had to think about this one, because I think my writing tends to be on the more serious side. But there's a scene in a fic I wrote about going on a date with Yoshida from Chainsaw Man that I giggled through. Under the cut (it's a little long)

Top 5 Reasons to Read
Colliding Worlds is a delightful young adult contemporary + speculative fiction book. Mina suddenly finds herself the main character in her own webcomic, having been transported into that world. She has to save everyone from a conspiracy involving an evil corporation that she made up!
The story is a realistic examination of the power of grief and how everyone grieves in their own way, and how those ways of grieving may be damaging to others.
Colliding Worlds is also both a celebration of Korean culture and an examination of the ways in which it can sometimes be harmful (as is the case with any culture).
The discussions of food will have you salivating!
Most of all, I loved the strong female friendships and relationships found in this book. Whether it's her Auntie or her best friends in real life and new friends in the webcomic, it's girls and women who always have Mina's back, no matter what.
I hope you will pick this one up! I mean, it's inspired by A-ha's "Take On Me" music video, which was an absolute staple of my tween years! How cool is that? I highly recommend this one!
Rating: 4 stars!
**Thank you to Crown BFYR and Ellen Oh for the finished copy, and to TBR and Beyond for having me on tour.

I'm also in the middle of reading Finding Junie Kim, by Ellen Oh. Currently I would give it 9/10 for fantastic and unforgettable characters, and speaking out against racism eloquently and treating grief and post traumatic stress with empathy and kindness.
It's available as an e-book and audio book. 😊

random & unorganized annabel/ambrose kid hcs:
ji-eun ‘junie’ kim! named after [REDACTED], obvi, and since rosy does go by ambrose/ia i feel like she’d have a nickname that’s easier to use in the usa.
she goes by junie as a kid, switches to june when she hits middle school to seem more grown up, then goes back to junie in her twenties.
mom calls her junebug when she’s v little, and that ends up morphing into bug/buggy. elle does feel vaguely guilty - she remembers how embarrassing the nickname button was as a teenager - but can’t break the habit.
dad doesn’t really use nicknames, but he uses ji-eun like a nickname in affectionate moments.
auntie sally calls her junie b jones lmao
                                                                -
the cutest baby in the world, in my very biased opinion!
short queen and bitter about it. 5′0 + 1/2, but lies about being 5′1. still refuses to wear heels for some reason.
she has a sharp + angular face, but the gap tooth and light freckles across her face make her less intimidating. wears her hair to her mid back, usually in a singular braid.
                                                                -
pollard score of 4, and doesn’t care in the slightest. she has zero desire to work with unity or in any ment related field, so why would it matter? i’m tentatively saying she goes into engineering? i feel like she’s a math + tech nerd.
she wanted to be an astronaut as a kid but then she realized she’s scared of heights. no, you can’t actually fall from space. yes, she’s still scared of falling from space.
junie did lego robotics in school! mom and dad were very proud. she was also on the soccer team and almost applied for a sports scholarship. but her love for robots beat out her love for sportsball.
                                                                -
elle picked the tao of pooh from rosy’s office, so i feel like she/rosy would be sentimental about that and raise junie on a lot of winnie the pooh. eeyore is her favorite! a plush of him was her very first toy and she keeps it even as an adult.
                                                               -
she has some complicated feelings about her family, but in the end i think she loves her parents a lot and is grateful for the life she has. but—
it’s kind of weird being an only child when both her parents are so defined by their siblings? she’s a fairly independent child but sometimes she kind of feels off-balance, like there should be someone else there. but elle very empathically doesn’t want another. like...
elle is aware she couldn’t handle a ment kid and wouldn’t have tried for a child at all. junie is a (deeply, completely loved) accident, but they were lucky she’s a 4. they’re not taking the risk again.
re: being defined by siblings. elle always had a hard time feeling like she had an identity beyond nick, so she’s content with having an only child. she’s objectively aware that the vast majority of siblings aren’t as intertwined as she & nick were, but. it’s just one of those weird brain things.
also, elle & rosy are just... ridiculously busy people. having more than one kid would really stretch them thin.
for the most part, it’s just the three of them: rosy, elle, and junie. she’s not isolated, and for the most part she likes the peace & quiet, but sometimes she does wonder what having a huge family would be like.
she actually never meets any of her grandparents--- rosy’s parents are deceased & elle is completely estranged from hers. i think she looks up some old videos of hope after she finds out about The Incident, but she doesn’t feel the need to seek them out.
she barely sees uncle nick (he’s canonically extremely pushy about button reconciling with john & hope, and the more he insists the less elle wants to do with him) but she does like him. he’s a little exhausting to deal with, but he remembers all her favorite foods and likes buying exorbitant presents.
junie adores auntie talia, she’s her favorite person on the planet. she has a few months as a teenager where she wants to be called binary, which mom finds hilarious and dad finds ridiculous. also--- ms. parker is totally her de facto grandma.
being button’s kid - the child of someone who was so shaped by pollard scores - is what pushes her away from doing anything with unity. she wants something brand new for herself.
junie knows elle adores her and she never feels unwanted. but she does eventually (around late high school?) realize she wasn’t initially wanted or planned. she does objectively understand why elle wouldn’t want the risk of a ment child, but it still fractures their relationship. they mostly mend things, but it’s a miserable few months before that.
                                                               -
very proud of her korean heritage! (not that she had much of a choice, with dad’s strict lessons, lmao.) she likes speaking another language--- it feels kind of like a special code as a kid. i also think she loves all kinds of korean fusion. mom experiments with a lot of combos - korean/italian, korean/indian - and junie will try any dish at least once. bulgogi tacos remain ultimate, though.
                                                               -
probably a lesbian? her first crush was a girl on her middle school soccer team (her comfort movie is bend it like beckham, obvi.) i don’t think she’s much of a romantic, though, and doesn’t really settle down with anyone until she’s in her late 30s.
idk if she would have kids. honestly, thinking of my baby daughter elle as a grandma kind of breaks my brain, so i’ll consider it.
                                                              -
the light of my life who i would die and/or kill for <3

They say time heals all wounds, but for Yeonjun, it seemed as though he was the bitter exception. Months after he had split off from his relationship with y/n, the wound in his heart was as fresh as ever. And who could he blame? He started the argument, he brought up her past trauma, he blamed her for things she had no control over. No wonder she wanted out so badly. But if time didn’t heal the wound in his heart, it definitely gave him perspective. A perspective into his own reckless behaviour. However, the end of term-break was nearing, and he’d be forced to face y/n - and the aftermath - again.
Sighing as he watched the time tick forward inch by inch, Yeonjun tried focusing on eating breakfast, ignoring the reminder in his head that he’d be in the same class as his ex-girlfriend again. Perhaps Professor Chae would have mercy and not put their seating places beside each other. His phone going off as he finished the last of his cereal, Yeonjun picked it up, rolling his eyes as his best friend’s message.
Wooyoung: Hey, do you think I’ll get any confessions this term?
Yeonjun: Dude, you get a new confession like, every other week, why are you even asking?
Wooyoung: Oh yeah~ you’re right!
Yeonjun: Don't you have a boyfriend though? Where’s Changbin? Say hi to him for me
Wooyoung: He doesn’t have class until 10:30 :(
Wooyoung: Hey! You have his number too! Say hi yourself!
Yeonjun: Ehh, can’t be asked. See you later.
Wooyoung: Uh huh love you too - bye!
Bag slung over his shoulder, outfit complete, a water bottle in his bag and he was ready; now all he had to do was to brave actually going out of his apartment and to his first class of the day. But his thoughts were being less than kind to him, and Yeonjun could feel his heart start to palpitate. Patting his chest repeatedly as he tried to steady his own breathing, the 21-year-old took to heading back inside to his living room, where he sat down and tried dealing with the oncoming wave of anxiety and panic.
Yeonjun hadn’t heard the knock at his door, nor had he heard when the passcode had been entered, a concerned Wooyoung walking through the door. “Yeonjun…? Junie? Choi Yeonjun where are-,” Stopping in his tracks when he walked in on his best friend crouched behind one end of the sofa, out of sight. “Yeonjun-ah, it’s me…”
“Oh - Wooyoung, I- how, how did you get in?” The fellow 21-year-old asked, finally aware enough to realise that Wooyoung was in his apartment, kneeling down beside him. Looking over, the vulnerability was raw, and entirely out on display. And Wooyoung’s gentle smile provided a sense of warmth and familiarity, no matter how small that feeling was.
“You still haven’t changed it since you told me. Anyway- that’s not too important; let’s get you feeling better hmm? I’m not the emotional support friend for nothing you know~.” Wooyoung hummed, taking Yeonjun’s hand into his own. Starting with a short breathing exercise, the dance major got Yeonjun to relax, asking him to describe the items in his room; starting with five things he could see, going down consecutively until they had gone through each of his senses. And it had started to work; Yeonjun’s heart didn’t feel like it was beating out of his chest, everything had become clearer - the crushing in his chest going away. Taking a few more stable breaths, Yeonjun’s body relaxed as he slowly stood up, Wooyoung standing up soon afterwards.
“That...that was rough. Thanks Woo.”
“No problem Jun, it’s what I’m here for.”
Arriving in class but five minutes late, Yeonjun tried concentrating on the presentation in front of him, making notes every so often as his professor explained the lesson. Everything felt normal, perhaps even too normal. But normal was better than nothing, and it seemed like the fashion major wouldn’t be facing y/n at school for the time being. Busy with his notes as he adjusted his glasses, the universe must have counted him lucky as he didn’t see who entered the lecture hall to talk to the professor. When he finally looked up from his notebook, his eyes widened before he immediately went back to staring at his notes, in hopes that y/n didn’t notice him on her way out.
But she did notice him. She did notice him sitting in his seat as she left. When did he change professors? Remaining by the door as she closed it behind her, the performing arts major blinked back memories before she made her way back to class; class was more important than an old relationship gone sour. Walking back into the hallspace that was the location of her class, tried refocusing as she joined her group of friends as they watched some of the improv performances after speaking to her own professor.
“Well? What did Mr Kim say? Are we going to be working with the fashion majors for the end of year performance?” Dejun asked, leaning over to whisper while they watched their classmates.
“Oh? Yeah, yeah, Mr Kim said Mr Song will be ‘lending’ his students to us,” Y/n replied, air quotes as she spoke, “ I don’t know about you Xiaojun, but doesn’t ‘lending’ sound kinda off?” She asked, an amused grin on her face as she went over the wording one more time. Taking a moment to realise what about it was so amusing, he snickered when the correlation finally clicked. The pair exhaled rapidly to try and drown the laughter, they covered their mouths with their hands once their professor glared in their direction.
“Well; looks like we got caught~ but yeah - are they products to him or something?”
“We may never know Xiaojun, we may never know~.”
As class finished up, y/n grabbed her bag and headed out, waving to Dejun and her friends as she made her way into the hallway. Earbuds plugged in, she kept her hands in her pocket as she aimlessly wandered through campus, humming along to the song playing as she found herself walking towards the courtyard. Without any other classes until that afternoon, there was plenty of time to sneak in a nap while she listened to her true crime podcast. Finding a bench off in the corner, the second-year student let her mind rest as she placed her coat along the bench and laid her head on her bag.
As luck would have it, Yeonjun’s timetable had more or less the same timings as y/n’s, and he had also been looking for a quiet place to rest. Class had gone well after seeing y/n, and the book he had been reading was just getting to the good part. Finding a bench that wasn’t too far away from y/n - he didn’t intentionally sit close by, but life is never predictable - he took a seat, opening the book and continuing with the tale in his hands. His reactions muted as to not draw much outward attention to himself, the bout of uncontrollable snickers ended up waking and getting the attention of the only other student in the courtyard. Looking up from his book when he heard the sound of someone clearing their throat, the nervous palpitations of his heart started again when he recognised who he was sharing the courtyard space with.
“Hey-! Can, can I talk to you? Please…” Y/n was seconds from heading out of the courtyard when she heard Yeonjun’s voice, turning around for a brief moment before sighing. After the way he treated their break up, she was certain that there would be no way she’d want to see him again by choice. Rolling her eyes, she turned back towards the direction of the hallway, only to be stopped by a hand holding onto her wrist; holding onto her as though she was an uncertain dream. One that would fade away if not given the chance to confront it.
“Choi Yeonjun, I thought I made it clear that I don’t want you to speak to me again. Is it that hard to stick to?”
“I know y/n - and I’m sorry - but I’ve been beating myself up over this and I need to apologise. Apologise to you properly.” He was desperate, desperate to set things right and try to regain some level of contact with y/n. Yeonjun would be a dirty liar if he tried telling himself that even after all he had put his ex girlfriend through, he didn’t want to try becoming closer, at least platonically. But the feeling wasn’t mutual. Y/n wanted nothing to do with her ex; he’d hurt her too much, and despite the memories they shared, she could see nothing but the man who used the insecurities she trusted him with against her. He was a chapter in her past she wanted to separate herself from, to never look at again.Y/n said nothing as she pried his hand off of her wrist, a hard glare in her eyes as she left Yeonjun alone in the courtyard. Staring at his hands as though they were red with blood, his thoughts spiralled, exactly one being voiced out through a whisper, only for Yeonjun’s ears but meant for y/n.
“Don’t leave me here, don’t leave me clasping at straws y/n…”
“Wait, wait, wait - Yeonjun was in the courtyard?” Xiaojun’s voice called out from y/n’s phone late that afternoon, well after all classes were long over. They had been talking for the last ten minutes, and the topic of what had happened had just been brought up. From his side of the call, Xiaojun saved his assignment - of which he was already ahead in - and leaned back in his chair. He had been there for y/n when the breakup happened, spent days comforting his long-term close friend, and had some choice opinions of his own when it came to the fellow 99-liner.
“Yeah! I think he was reading a book or something, but I didn’t see it. Anyway - my point; this bastard actually wanted to talk to me. He grabbed my fucking wrist and everything; something about wanting to ‘apologise’.” Y/n answered, her phone on speaker as she set about making herself a hot chocolate. She’d get to her research assignment after telling her best friend what had happened. First order of business? Getting herself a drink.
“Wow…” Dejun started, the disbelief loud, “after the crap he put you through, it took him this long to want to apologise?” He asked, putting his own phone on speaker as he stood out of his chair to get a water bottle. The conversation stayed like that for the next half an hour; both talking about one topic after another, all seeming to revolve around y/n’s painful break up. It had been less than a week after y/n’s birthday when Yeonjun had decided that he wanted to end their two-year relationship, a fake cold exterior as he left her alone in the silence of her own apartment that night. Y/n never went to sleep afterwards, burying herself in work as she let the tears fall down her face freely, only praying that the end of the year could come any faster. Each day had dragged on at a snail’s pace though, each hour feeling three times as long as she tried avoiding the cause of her pain. It was those six weeks before her second year in university that she found her mercy, going on a three-week trip to London with Xiaojun and a couple others in their friendship circle. Tears were shed, alcohol was consumed and heart-to-hearts were had. By the time y/n had returned to Seoul, she was on track to healing the wound in her heart.
At the end of their mini venting session, the question that was really hanging in the air was whether y/n should even bother hearing Yeonjun out. But it seemed as though fate was eavesdropping on the pair’s conversation, because a knock at the door after y/n had hung up on her phone call immediately grabbed her attention. There was no way Xiaojun could have been at the door, otherwise the university student would have heard it across the call. Walking up to the door with a minute sense of apprehension, y/n looked through the peephole and audibly groaned. Massaging her temples out of frustration, she opened the door, arms folded as she stared him dead in the eye.
“What are you doing here? Don’t you have your own mess of an apartment to get to?” She questioned, watching her ex walk in with a raised brow.
“I told you, I needed to talk to you. Please y/n, just one last time, hear me out. I beg of you.”
And despite her resentment, that’s what she did.
There was no level of regret or guilt that could describe just how apologetic Yeonjun was feeling as he spoke, each syllable a thorn on his tongue. He had avoided the glare in y/n’s expression as he tried explaining his point of view, but it was clear that it really was Yeonjun who had brought it upon himself. His actions, his callous behaviour led to where they were now; sat in y/n’s apartment while he desperately tried to repair a burned down bridge with nothing more than pretty words.
Having forced herself to sit through Yeonjun’s failed attempts at winning some semblance of friendship, y/n stood up, not in any mood to hear his voice any more. “You know what the real issue is with you?”
“What, what  is it..?”
“You’re pathetically entitled.” Y/n started, looking everywhere but the man sitting on her sofa in front of her. “Two years, Yeonjun. Two fucking years and you decide to break up with me in front of my family while we were on video - humiliate me - and give me no reason. You erased me from your life even though you knew damn well we meant something.  And suddenly now you decide that ‘Oh, I need y/n back’?”
“Y/n-ah, I’m - I’m sorry, I was a coward, I- I wanted an easy way out…” A ‘tch’ coming from y/n at his poor attempt at an excuse, she said nothing as she went to the apartment door and opened it.
“Get out. If I see you come to my door again Choi I will call the police.” His head hung low, Yeonjun complied; putting his shoes back on and walking out in shame. Flinching when he heard the slam of the door behind him, the broken man made the journey home by foot, too ashamed to feel the need to take the bus.
From inside her apartment, y/n reached for her phone. She needed to spend the night somewhere else.
Y/n: Mind if I stay the night?
Dejun: No problem, you’ve already got some of your own stuff here.
Y/n: Thanks Jun
As she left her apartment, there was one question on her mind. One that put into question exactly how she had dealt with the situation;
She wasn’t being too callous with Yeonjun, was she?

2021 Reading Challenge
July ’21 | Week 3
☀ What’s a book that you think is brilliantly titled?
A book I read a couple of weeks ago was called "Finding Junie Kim" by Ellen Oh and I thought it was truly meaningful to title it after the character. The main progatonist learns a lot about who she is and who she wants to become through the family stories told by her grandparents, who lived through the Korea War and the many tradegies that people of race have to face once arriving to the US.
☀ Are you a poet/writer yourself?
I am not, but I enjoy reading my friends' works. They're all really talented.

Halfway There || Choi Soobin
Tumblr media
➳ When feelings you thought have changed do a complete 180 in the midst of a total disaster.
Tumblr media
↳ Pairing: Choi Soobin x Reader
↳ word count: 4.2k
↳ genre: fluff, angst?, medical au
↳ trigger warnings: mass shooting (NOT DESCRIBED BUT MENTIONED A LOT), mentions of suicide, panic attacks, multiple gunshot casualties, minor character deaths
↳Trigger warning note: PLEASE BE CAREFUL IN READING THIS FIC. IF YOU ARE TRIGGERED BY THE THINGS LISTED ABOVE--PLEASE DO NOT PROCEED UNDER THE KEEP READING SIGN. this is in no way romanticizing a shooting or anything mentioned in the warnings above--but this is a medical fic that takes place in an emergency room in the midst of a disaster, and i found that this situation is usually dealt with in the medical field would be plausible for the emergencies they would be able to respond to but still be able to interact with.
↳ a/n: With regards to the general plot between Soobin and Y/N,,,, i had no idea what i was writing man i did this on a spur at 3am. Please be careful in reading, and please tread lightly. otherwise, enjoy this weird soobin fic i wrote because there are no soobin fics for me to read anymore hAHA pls send me some.
Tumblr media
Screams, wheels on linoleum floors, beeping.
All those noises are tuned out by Y/N as she panted, two defibrillators in her hands.
“Charge again. 600 this time. You, move.” Y/N commanded, pushing the patient’s brother away. “No one near the patient. We ready?”
Beomgyu, Y/N’s best friend and co-doctor, nodded firmly.
“Alright. Three, two, one.” Y/N said, voice alert. “Charge.”
The patient’s body lurched.
Y/N’s head turned to the heart monitor, cursing at the unmoving flat line.
“Shit, again. 800. Ready?”
“Yep.”
“3, 2, 1. Charge.” Y/N commanded, defibrillators firmly planted on the patient’s chest.
The patient lurched once more, and a slow beeping started.
Y/N and Beomgyu looked up at the heart monitor which now projected varying sizes of spikes—the patient’s heart was beeping again.
“Alright, he’s stable for now. Wheel him in, OR-5.” Y/N sighed, handing the defibrillator to a nearby nurse.
“Dr. Jeon is in, we’ll page him.” Beomgyu smiled, already on his pager.
As soon as the patient was rolled out of the emergency room and into the operating room, Y/N crashed into the spare bed.
“When will this end?”
“When your shift ends 4 hours from now.” Beomgyu chuckled, ruffling Y/N’s hair.
Y/N raised her head, pouting at him. “I just wanna go get some sleep, babe.”
Beomgyu laughed and pulled her up. “I don’t think we could, but what we can do is get some coffee at the Starbucks across the street.”
“You’re treating me?”
“You’re such a freeloader, but fine.”
Tumblr media
“You have got to be kidding me right now.” Y/N groaned as she pushed the cafe’s door open.
There sat Huening Kai, her cousin and resident doctor, happily sipping on an iced americano next to Taehyun, his best friend from college.
Across them sat Yeonjun, one of the senior doctors of the hospital and next to him is Yeonjun’s best friend, Soobin.
Soobin.
Choi Soobin—she dreaded his entire existence.
Soobin, peacefully munching on a donut, heard the loud complaint from his seat and his eyes immediately darted over to the girl at the door.
“Y/N-ie!” Yeonjun greeted.
“Hey, Junie.” Y/N smiled politely, frowning at Soobin as she approached their table.
“Hey, troublemakers.” Y/N greeted, her hand landing on Hueningkai and Taehyun’s heads.
“Your mentor teaching you how to slack, huh?” Beomgyu teased, walking towards the line.
“Actually,” Yeonjun raised his finger. “I am not their mentor.”
“All the more. Besides, you’re still teaching them to slack.” Y/N chirped.
“You’re one to talk, you’re here too!” Yeonjun whined.
Soobin chuckled, causing Y/N to shoot him a glare. “Can I help you?”
Soobin stopped abruptly, shaking his head softly.
Yeonjun and Beomgyu exchanged glances as Y/N started doting on Hyuka.
Soobin quietly stood up, excusing himself for the comfort room.
Yeonjun turned to Y/N and whined. “What’s your problem?”
“My problem is that you’re a fully-grown adult, a medicine graduate and a practicing doctor and yet you still act like such a child.” Y/N shrugged.
“Boo.” Yeonjun huffed.
“Yeonjun,” Beomgyu sighed. “He meant what’s your problem with Soobin?”
“What do you mean?” Y/N asked.
“They used to date!” Hyuka chirped from his seat, causing Y/N to turn over to him.
“Oh, yeah. They got it on all the time at their house, Soobin was there almost everyday then.” Taehyun giggled, silencing immediately at Y/N’s sharped glare.
“You what?” Yeonjun asked, his eyes wide. “Oh my god.”
“Still finding out your name is Daniel was a bigger surprise, Daniel.”
“My name is also Yeonjun. Both are my names.” Yeonjun groaned.
“Bad break-up?”
“No, kind of?” Y/N sighed, eyes locking with Soobin who just sat down. “Soobin just gave me a good wake-up call.”
Soobin frowned. “Look, can you get over it? It was almost six years ago.”
“Seeing my ex make out with my best friend the day after we broke up was seems kind of like a hate-you-for-the-rest-of-my-life material, doesn’t it, Binnie?” Y/N said, voice emotionless and smile empty.
As Soobin opened his mouth to answer his defense, six simultaneous beeps sounded out.
The six doctors exchanged glances before checking their respective pagers.
Code brown. Shooter at Seoul Community College. First patients ETA 10 min.

Years ago...
Y/N’s eyes watered as Soobin bit his lip, his head bowed down low.
“No, no.” Y/N whispered, her eyes leaking tears—but she didn’t sob.
She was quiet, and Soobin thought that hurt more than anything else.
“W-Why?” Y/N asked. “You told me you wouldn’t give up.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Soobin, you said you loved me.” Y/N looked up, locking eyes with him. “Look me in the eyes and tell me you don’t love me.”
Soobin gulped, looking at the side.
Of course, he loved her.
Soobin actually thinks he’s never loved anyone more than he loves Y/N.
But he can’t.
Soobin loved Y/N—a bit too much.
Too much that he was willing to throw everything away, that he was willing to just drop everything to be at Y/N’s beck and call.
Too much that he thought that he might suffer for it.
He might stop paying attention to class.
Too much that he thought of proposing, dropping is course and getting married, getting her pregnant and starting a family and a business.
That wasn’t in his plan.
When he said he wanted to be a doctor, his family made a lot of adjustments—budget cuts, his older brother going to a less prestigious college to save money, his parents taking on multiple jobs—just to give him his dream.
And now, he was here and thinking of dropping it all for a girl.
So, yes.
He did love Y/N, but he had to choose.
“I can’t, because I do love you, Y/N.” Soobin smiled sadly. “I have to love myself and my family more.”
“Soobin, I don’t understand. I don’t—just—tell me.”
Soobin only shook his head, any explanation he would offer would be useless.
“I’m sorry. I love you.”
Tumblr media
Y/N, red-eyed and face swollen, finally found the courage to haul herself out of bed to get some food from a nearby cafe.
After a few hours of crying, Y/N fell asleep.
Waking up the next morning to an empty bed when she usually woke up on Soobin’s bare chest made another fresh wave of tears flow out of her body until she was out and had to reload—eat and drink.
As soon as she turned to the corner, her eyes fixed on her best friend.
Seo Yeon sat on the lap of a tall, brown-haired man practically sucking his face off.
What made Y/N stop was when they pulled away, Soobin’s face becoming visible.
Seo Yeon giggled before pressing a few kisses to his neck as Y/N walked over to them slowly.
“I thought you were busy Seo Yeon.” Y/N said, causing Seo Yeon to fumble off of Soobin.
“I-I was, Y/N-ie.” Seo Yeon mumbled as she stood awkwardly next to Soobin in his chair.
Soobin only sighed.
“Busy sucking the face off of the love of my life?” Y/N growled, out of character from her usualy calm demeanor.
Soobin’s head shot up, gaze soft but shocked at Y/N.
Seo Yeon pursed her lips. “Didn’t you guys break up?”
“You didn’t know that,” Y/N smiled dangerously. “I would’ve told you if you picked up the phone, but you didn’t. Did Soobin tell you?”
“No.” Soobin hummed, his gaze set on Y/N.
“Fucking snake.” Y/N chuckled, picking up Soobin’s cold brew and pouring it over Seo Yeon’s head.
Seo Yeon’s high pitched-screech sounded out as the beverage spilled over her head and stained her clothes.
Y/N turned her head over to Soobin, a menacing glare on her face as she hissed. “I thought you fucking loved me.”
“I did,” Soobin said, settling in his chair. “I always will.”
“Bullshit.” Y/N hissed before turning, pulling her hair in a high ponytail as she angrily stepped over to the cafe counter to order.
Soobin only sighed as the cafe’s door closed. “This was the only way to make you believe I don’t anymore.”
Tumblr media
On a totally random Wednesday, Y/N found herself breathing heavily as she rushed from patient to patient.
She, Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Hyuka all pulled on their coats as soon as they read the pager’s message and bolted back to the emergency room to prepare for the incoming patients.
The last she saw, a running Hyuka was fixing the IV of a patient being wheeled to the operating room, with Taehyun pushing the bed and rambling about Dr. Kim.
Yeonjun was screaming earlier about joules—probably using a defibrillator.
Beomgyu crashed in on her cot earlier as she was giving chest compressions to a gunshot victim, stealing gauzes before bolting to the neighboring cot.
Y/N panted as she opened the next cot, empty.
Soobin entered right after her, sighing as he collapsed on the empty bed.
“That’s for the patient.” Y/N panted, readying herself to stand and move to the next cot before Soobin groaned, pulling out his phone to narrate the situation.
“The shooter’s daughter was bullied and killed herself. So, he came to the university and killed everyone he thought was responsible.” Soobin narrated, sitting up and breathing slowly. “He’s still shooting.”
“Shit, so more patients incoming.” Y/N cursed.
“Definitely.” Soobin sighed as he stood and pulled the curtain open, only to be greeted with another patient—a gunshot wound on his chest, abdomen and leg.
“Oh my god.” Y/N gasped, waving the responders in.
Soobin immediately set to action, pulling out IVs and preparing the heart monitor.
“Dr. Choi, get a nurse.”
“There’s no time, and they’re all busy.” Soobin refused. “I’ll be your nurse for now.”
Y/N cursed before springing into action, taking the cords for the heart monitor to help him set it up.
“He’s got a weak heart beat and were losing a lot of blood.” Y/N hissed.
“Fuck, what’s your blood type?” Soobin asked, looking up at the patient whose gaze was hazy. “Sir? Sir!”
The patient muttered incoherently, causing Y/N to face him as his eyes closed. “Hey, hey. Stay with us.”
The patient breathed heavily before forcing his eyes open to let out another incoherent murmur. “Sir! Wake up!”
“Fuck,” Soobin said, turning to pull out a fresh batch of gauzes to press to the wounds. “Sir!”
Y/N cursed. “Fuck this.”
Soobin’s eyes widened as Y/N grabbed the man and shook him away. “Hey, buddy! Don’t sleep!”
The man blinked before softly muttering out. “Blood…O…Blood…Type of… O…”
Soobin grinned, turning over to Y/N and smiling softly. “Thanks, sir.”
“You gotta stay awake with us. Okay, buddy? We’ll get you out.” Y/N faced him. “Get the blood, doofus. We need at least 3 pints.”
“Roger.”
After Soobin and Y/N wheeled their patient into an operating room, leaving him to the care of Dr. Moon before running back to the emergency room.
At least 10 more patients were rolled in while they were occupied.
Y/N immediately bolted over to Hyuka, who looked panicked as he straddled a victim.
“Kai, get off, I’ll do it!”
Kai pulled himself off of the patient, and Y/N immediately plopped herself over the body.
“Count for me, a hundred a minute. Ready?”
Soobin’s eyes fixated on Y/N as he dashed to another cot with a ma and a stab wound.
She never looked more beautiful to him than she did a while ago, saving a life right in front of him.
Tumblr media
Several cardiac arrests and chest compressions later, Y/N found herself at a loss in the middle of the emergency room as patients were wheeled in continuously.
“Is it still on-going?” Y/N asked as Beomgyu rushed past.
“It’s an open fire now,” Yeonjun answered for Beomgyu.
“Fuck,” Y/N cursed as a patient was pushed to a cot next to her, a black ribbon tied to the bed.
“Doc, we need someone to call it in so we can use the cot for other patients.” The head nurse rushed, causing Y/N to purse her lips and enter the cot.
The patient was a young woman, seemingly in her mid-20s, and her soft face  made her look like she was just asleep—but Y/N knew better, she knew what the ribbon meant.
Y/N raised her watch, glancing at the dark lines forming numbers that would ultimately mark the last minutes of this girl.
“Time of death, 6:53 P.M.”
The nurse thanked Y/N, setting a blanket over the patient’s face before a quick transfer from the bed to a gurney was done and the nurses started to change the bedsheets for the next patient.
Soobin’s groan and Hyuka’s voice sounded from the cot across Y/N causing her to peek over.
Hyuka panted as he fluttered around the patient’s bedside.
“Hey, Hey! Minho, stay with me!” Hyuka hissed as he shook the body.
“Min Ho?” Y/N asked, walking forward. “Son Min Ho?”
Y/N looked down at her and Hyuka’s childhood best friend on the cot, Soobin working tirelessly as he tried to do chest compressions.
“Y/N, can you press on the wound?”
Y/N’s gasped, her eyes watering once more as she grabbed gauze pads and started pressing down on the multiple gun shot wounds on Minho’s body.
At the back of her mind, she knew that there was nothing they could do—he was gone as soon as she heard the flatline.
She didn’t know why her body reacted when Soobin pulled a black ribbon out of his pocket.
“No, No!”
Hyuka was silent, sitting down with a blank expression as Y/N shook her head.
“Choi, no, stop.” Y/N shook her head. “I can save him—I can save him!”
“Y/N.” Hyuka said softly, looking up at Y/N. “It’s over.”
“No, no.” Y/N gasped. “Not until I say so.”
“Y/N!”
“We’re not losing Minho, okay!” Y/N muttered, pulling the black ribbon out of Soobin’s hands and throwing it to the side. “No.”
“Y/N.” Beomgyu said as he entered the cot.
“No!”
Y/N climbed the bed, straddling Minho. “I can do this, fuck the heart monitor. Beomgyu, a hundred compressions a minute.”
“Y/N, stop it.” Beomgyu said, trying to pull her off.
“No? Fine. I’ll do it myself. Fuck you.” Y/N cursed at Beomgyu, her chest heaving fast as he pressed her palms on her friend’s body.
He was cold, but she paid no attention to it.
No, he’ll be fine.
“One, Two, Three—”
“Y/N!” Soobin’s deep voice boomed as he forcefully lifted Y/N off Minho’s body and plopped her on the floor where she unceremoniously dropped.
Yeonjun and Beomgyu helped several nurses transfer Minho to a gurney for the morgue as Taehyun consoled a silent Hyuka.
“I didn’t—I could’ve saved him—I could’ve…” Y/N muttered, rambling over and over.
“Y/N?” Beomgyu asked as he stepped forward.
“Panic attack.” Hyuka suddenly said.
“Y/N, Y/N,” Soobin said, his fingers snapping in front of her. “Look at me. Count with me.”
“I c-could’ve saved h-him.” Y/N continued, ignoring Soobin. “He c-can still live, b-bring him b-back. I can s-save h-him.”
“Think about family, think about friends. Your house in the country, your relatives there, your neighbors—“ Soobin abruptly stopped at Y/N’s glare.
“No, okay. Don’t think about it. Hold your breath.” Soobin said, causing Y/N to breathe heavier.
“I c-can’t.”
“You have to.”
“I r-really c-can’t, C-Choi!”
“Fine.” Soobin hissed before leaning in and pressing his lips on hers.
Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Hyuka all froze, eyes trained on Y/N and Soobin.
Y/N slowly responded to the kiss before pulling away.
Soobin breathed heavily, leaning his forehead on hers as he closed his eyes.
“Wait—what?” Yeonjun muttered.
“What was that for?” Y/N asked silently.
“You had to hold your breath, and you weren’t.” Soobin said softly as Beomgyu started to usher the others (mainly Yeonjun, who stillw anted to peek) out of the cot. “When I kissed you, you held your breath.”
“Y-You can’t do that.” Y/N breathed out.
Soobin only shook his head before leaning back in, swiftly pressing his lips on hers.
Y/N let out a soft breath, leaning back and running her hand through Soobin’s hair as their lips moved in sync.
Soobin raised his hands to grasp her waist, pushing deeper and angling his head.
Y/N groaned and wrapped her leg around his torso, pulling him closer.
Soobin moved his lips down, kissing from her lips, to her jaw and proceeding to suck a mark on her neck.
“Soobin,” Y/N grunted, sighing.
Soobin hummed, pressing his lips to hers once more.
It was then that Y/N suddenly opened her eyes and pushed him away.
“No, No. This can’t be happening again, not after I just got over this.” Y/N said, groaning as she scooted away.
“Y/N, wait—“
“You hurt me.” Y/N said, turning over to him. “You broke up with me.”
“I thought it was best at the time.” Soobin whispered.
“I loved you.”
“So did I,” Soobin said, taking her hand and pressing a soft kiss on it. “and I still do. I never stopped.”
“Bullshit,” Y/N hissed, ripping her hand away from Soobin’s grasp and running it through her hair. “Stop saying shit you don’t mean.”
“How do you know I don’t mean it?” Soobin challenged, irritated.
“Maybe because I saw you making out with my so-called best friend the day after you left.” Y/N hissed.
“It was the only way to get you to believe that I didn’t love you anymore!” Soobin argued, standing up. “All these years, I never stopped thinking about you.”
“Bullshit, why’d you break up with me?”
“Because I was ready to drop everything to marry you!” Soobin said, his hands flinging around in anger.
Y/N froze, speechless.
“I loved you too much, I thought maybe that’s bad for me. I was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” Soobin whispered.
“Then-Then, why?” Y/N asked as Soobin walked forward and pulled her in once more, leaning his forehead on hers.
Soobin sighed and pressed another kiss on her lips.
Y/N pulled away, breathing heavily. “Soobin, why?”
“Y/N, I never wanted to let you go, but the hardest decisions always seem like the good ones.” Soobin explained, tucking a stray lock of hair behind Y/N’s head.
“Oh,” Y/N replied, swallowing a lump on her throat. “Was i never a good decision to you?”
Soobin shook his head. “I don’t know. It was so easy to love you, maybe that’s why I thought you were bad for me.”
Y/N sighed and pushed him away gently. “No.”
“Y/N?”
Y/N stopped, opening the curtain to the cot and turning to face Soobin with pursed lips.
“You know, I wouldve done all that I could to hold on to you, but when I saw you with her, I thought you wanted me to go. It’s nice to know you didn’t.”
“I never wanted you to go, I still dont.” Soobin said, reaching out to grasp Y/N’s hand.
“I don’t believe you anymore.”
Y/N gave a sad smile, placing a soft kiss on Soobin’s hand before turning and leaving him alone.
Next to them was the distinct sound of a heart monitor flatlining.
Tumblr media
Y/N heaved, inserting a tube in the patient’s chest after making a fast incision.
Y/N waited for a while until the patient stabilized.
“Keep him in observation. Once Dr. Seo clears up wheel him in and say he had tension pneumothorax.” Y/N yawned and patted the nurse at the back. “He’ll be alright for now.”
“Thank you, Y/N. I’ll take over now.” Taehyun says, ruffling Y/N’s hair as Hyuka enters the cot.
“Y/N, you look horrible.” Hyuka gasps, causing Taehyun to snort in laughter.
“Thanks, cousin. Nice to hear.” Y/N replied, voice laced heavily with sarcasm.
Hyuka held his hands up. “I’m just saying.”
“He’s not wrong,” Beomgyu sighed, entering the cots and leaning on the bed. “You should get some sleep.”
“I’ll be fine.”
“No, I’m serious.” Beomgyu raised an eyebrow. “You look like you’ll drop dead any minute. I’d rather you get a nap before you become an extra patient here.”
Y/N pursed her lips as she peeked out the cot, running her eyes through the emergency room.
It was a little bit calmer now, a stark difference from the chaotic messy room it was earlier.
“You guys will be fine?”
“We got it,” Hyuka smiled.
“Go to the break room, get some sleep.” Beomgyu pushed Y/N lightly. “We’ll see you in a few hours.”
“Okay, sheesh. Will do.” Y/N shook her head and started to trek her way to the second floor.
It was now silent, the break room situated between patient’s private rooms for peace and quiet while doctors take their rests.
Y/N entered the room silently, her eyes locking over a lone figure laying down on one of the bunk beds—an arm covering his eyes.
As she closed the door, Soobin sat up slowly.
“I was waiting for you.”
“Did Beomgyu and the others put you up to this?” Y/N sighed.
“No,” Soobin shook his head. “But Yeonjun sent me up to get some rest, and I knew it was a matter of time before Beomgyu sent you up, too. So, I waited.”
“So, you waited.” Y/N hummed. “Soobin, what exactly do you want from me?”
Soobin stayed silent as he stood up and walked closer. “I want you.”
Y/N turned abruptly, lips pursed. “You had me, you let me go.”
“Yeah, well I’m not making the same mistake again.” Soobin said, pulling her closer. “Y/N, I know I still have you.”
“Soobin.”
“Down there, in the ER,” Soobin asked. “You kissed me back. Was that real?”
“That was real.” Y/N replied curtly.
“And you wanted to kiss me, right?”
“Right?”
“And you still love me, right?” Soobin asked desperately.
“I do,” Y/N closed her eyes, feeling Soobin lean closer.
“Y/N, I want you back.”
Soobin swooped down to plant a kiss on Y/N’s lips, but she only sighed and turned her head.
She walked over to a nearby bunk, shrugging her coat off. “It’s not that easy to forget everything, Soobin.”
“I never stopped loving you. It was always you.” Soobin said, following her and laying a hand on her waist. “Please, let me prove it to you.”
Y/N turned in his arms and slowly wrapped her arms around his neck. “I’m scared of you—I’m scared you’ll turn around and go once you realize I’m not something you want.”
“No, not anymore. I know it’s you.” Soobin shook his head and placed his hands on her cheeks. “The greatest mistake of my life taught me that sometimes, the best decisions are the easiest things to do—and it’s so easy for me to say I’m in love with you.”
Y/N smiled softly at Soobin before leaning up to kiss him.
Soobin laid Y/N down on the bed, not breaking the kiss as he crawled on top of her.
Y/N pulled away and ran a finger across his cheeks.
“I’m supposed to get some rest, Dr. Choi.”
“So was I,” Soobin smiled, satisfied and happy as he plopped his body down next to Y/N and pulling her close.
Y/N lifted her head to place it on his chest, laying her hand above his heart.
Y/N smiled at the rapid beat of Soobin’s heart as he tightened his grip on her waist, burying his face in her hair.
“Soobin, what happens tomorrow?” Y/N asked, starting to trace abstract lines on his chest.
“I don’t know, baby.” Soobin smiled in her hair. “All I know is that it’s still you and me.”
Y/N smiled burying her head in his chest. “I still don’t forgive you.”
Soobin smiled, the pout in Y/N’s voice and the way she snuggled in his chest was a clear indication that somehow—even just a little—she did.
“I know,” Soobin hummed. “but I’m halfway there.”
Tumblr media
BONUS:
The morning after the emergency, Soobin drove Y/N home.
He absolutely refused to let her go without at least one goodbye kiss—or three—demanding that she free up her night for a date.
He won her over by more kisses.
After seeing Y/N practically make out with Dr. Choi Soobin, the tallest bachelor doctor you can find in Seoul Medical Center, her roommates were shocked.
To say the least, various questions was thrown left and right about Soobin.
(“Does he kiss nice?” “Yeah, his lips are soft.” “How tall is he?” “6”2, but you can literally just ask him this.” “I thought you were dating Choi Beomgyu?” “I never was, but I guess I’m dating Choi Soobin now.” “Is his dick big?” “if it’s just like I remember, then it’s huge, yes, but I don’t see why you have to ask me this.”)
At exactly 5 in the afternoon, Y/N shot awake from the alarm she set.
“7pm. See you, babe. ;)” was the short text waiting for her—sent at exactly 3:30 PM.
Immediately, she dashed into the shower.
Afterwards, she took the best outfit she could find.
At exactly 6:48, she settled into her couch and waited.
As 7:00 sharp rolled in, there were three knocks on the door.
When Y/N opened the door, she was greeted with a bouquet of roses and a smiling Soobin.
“Hi, baby.”
“Hi.” Y/N smiled brightly, leaning forward and kissing him gently. “These are beautiful.”
“I know, just like you.”
“Cheesy.” Y/N hummed with a smile, placing another kiss on his lips before setting it on a nearby coffee table.
“I know you love it,” Soobin grinned as he intertwined their hands. “Am I forgiven yet, baby?”
“I don’t know,” Y/N giggled, wrapping her arms around his neck and biting her lip. “but you’re halfway there.”
