s1ep11, "Navidad" [Naomi tries to convince Elena to join her family's Navidad/Christmas celebration and they end up celebrating together. There is even part of a song in which Naomi and Elena are on ship to together (hint hint)]
s1ep12, "Olaball" [Elena and Naomi play together in an Avaloran Olaball team]
s1ep16, "Captain Turner Returns" [Naomi shows Elena a light atop a lighthouse meant to signal ships, hoping to help her mother, who is returning from a long voyage. They work to beautify her house before Naomi's mother arrives, and sing a song together. Elena later works to ensure that Naomi's mother gets a job in Avalor, so she will stay there, and that Naomi won't leave. Elena also comforts Naomi while she feels down.]
s1ep18, "My Fair Naomi" [Naomi comes to visit Elena and soon becomes self-absorbed (in part thanks to Esteban) after Elena tries to throw a Royal Quinceañera for her. She realizes the error with her ways and decides to dance with her friends, including Elena...]
s1ep21, "Realm of the Jaquins" [Naomi sees Elena off before her travel to the jaquin realm, where she lets out a forest spirit]
s1ep23, "Party of a Lifetime" [Naomi goes with Elena, Mateo, and Gabe on a journey that leads them to a never-ending party ship, from which they need to escape.]
s1ep24, "Blockheads" [Naomi and Elena talk and hang out before they, and others, are transformed into blockheads.]
s2ep2, "Royal Rivalry" [Naomi attempts to hold Elena back when talking to Valentina, and gives her advice. At times, Naomi is infuriated with Valentina, and Elena attempts to hold her back, lest the possibility it will be a diplomatic incident.]
s2ep3, "The Curse of El Guapo" [There is a short scene of Naomi, Elena, and Mateo together.]
s2ep5, "A Spy in the Palace" [Carla sneaks into the royal palace, attempting to spy on the royal court, but this is a failure, with her only seeing Naomi and Elena as being affectionate (basically). At one point, Naomi is annoyed at how close Elena and Carla (in her fake/transformed form) are. Clearly, Naomi is jealous.]
s2ep7, "Rise of the Sorceress" [Naomi attempts to warn Elena that Carla, who is disguised as Rita, is a danger. In the process, Naomi and Elena get even closer, with Elena grateful for Naomi saving her from an attack.]
s2ep8, "Shapeshifters" [In an attempt to find Shuriki, after a Grand Council vote not to her liking, Elena changes into a jaquin, but is then accused of a crime even though she is innocent. One of those who votes against Elena is Naomi, making her sad.]
s2ep9, "Scepter of Night" [Elena and her friends (like Naomi) attempt to get the first piece of an evil counterpart to the scepter of light before it is too late. At certain points, Naomi appears to be in awe of how much power Elena's scepter, and Elena by extension, has, and the new spell she can do.]
s2ep10, "The Race for the Realm" [Elena and Naomi ride on Jaquins into the jaquin lands, as Elena attempts to find more pieces of the evil scepter before Shuriki can use it.]
s2ep13, "All Kingdoms Fair" [Armando is tasked with organizing the All Kingdoms Fair in an attempt to give him more self-confidence. In the process, Elena and Naomi hang out, even checking out the floats for the fair.]
s2ep15, "Song of the Sirenas" [Elena visits Duke Cristóbal, her cousin, and befriends sea creatures known as sirenas, hoping they will help her defeat Shuriki. Naomi, along with Isa, Gabe, and Mateo, comes along with Elena.]
s2ep16, "Tides of Change" [As Elena tries to get a treaty between humans and sirenas signed, one commander tries to prove to sirenas that humans still don't trust them by employing evil dolphins, hoping it will scuttle the treaty negotiations. Naomi is wary of the sirenas at first, but later supports Elena's peace initiative.]
s2ep18, "Finding Zuzo" [Elena attempts to get other spirit guides to help her when Zuzo goes missing. In the process, she works with Naomi. They have an argument and later reconcile.]
s2ep19, "Snow Place Like Home" [Naomi comes with her family to a quiet holiday celebration at the royal castle hosted by Elena. Snow threatens the entire thing and she attempts to hold it together.]
s2ep25, "Naomi Knows Best" [When Elena and her friends are captured by three evil wizards, Ash, Victor, and Carla, Naomi has no choice, but to save them by any means necessary.]
s3ep1, "Sister of Innovation" [In an attempt to prove she is a valuable team member, Isabel involves herself in a mission (including Naomi and Elena working together) which puts the team in great personal danger.]
s3ep5, "Norberg Peace Prize" [Elena travels to the Kingdom of Norberg and attempts to assist two rulers, hoping they can work out their disagreements. Naomi comes with Elena and tries to assist her the best way she can.]
s3ep6, "The Magic Within" [Elena's magical powers are increased when she falls into a crystal well. With these new abilities, she finds out about Esteban's dirty secret. Naomi serves as a supportive friend through this process.]
s3ep15, "Team Isa" [A magical bandit puts Elena and Naomi (who are hanging out together, and her other friends in a magical trance. Isabel and her buddies are the only ones who can save the day.]
s3ep16, "The Last Laugh" [When Veronica, Naomi's childhood friend, comes to visit, Naomi begins to rethink her role on the Grand Council, and she decides to leave Naomi and Avalor, at least for the time being, so she can figure it out.]
s3ep19, "Giant Steps" [Naomi comes back to Avalor, warning Elena of a growing threat to Avalor itself. This episode also features Naomi and Elena singing a duet together.]
s3ep21, "Crash Course" [A flashy wizard, Bronzino, is recruited by Gabe to teach the Avaloran Royal Guards. There are some nice scenes between Elena and Naomi in this episode.]
s3ep23, "Lightning Warrior" [Elena frees Ixlan, a new ally, from a magical curse. There are some nice scenes between Elena and Naomi in this episode.]
s3ep26, "Elena's Day Off" [Elena tries to take a day off before her royal coronation, with the help of Naomi and Isa]
s3ep27, "To Queen or Not To Queen" [Elena questions whether she should be queen and Zuzo shows her an alternate reality of what it could have been. Elena is even able to bond with the Naomi in the alternate world too! Damn!]
s3ep28, "Coronation Day" [Naomi tries to help Elena get ready to be coronated as Queen of Avalor. Later, in the last part of this episode, she decides, in perhaps the peak Elenaomi moment of the entire series, to make Naomi her "chancellor" in what almost looks like a marriage/relationship proposal.]
Movie
Elena and the Secret of Avalor [Bookended by scenes of Elena and Naomi hanging out together, atop a waterfall. Some Elenaomi fans have called this a "secret date spot." During their conversation Elena recalls Shuriki and her parents, and Naomi teases Elena about her age, saying she is "57" (she isn't effectively*, but that's another story for another day)]
*As it says on the fandom page, she is age "57-58 (in season 1; chronologically)" but is, biologically, only 16-17 in season 1. By season 3 she is age 19-20 biologically. I would say the chronological number is total bunk, as her biological age didn't change, so...

A Friendly Interrogation
Note: Originally this was going to be an Estenaomi since I do so few of those but it just didn’t fit the mood of the piece so I won’t with a very old ship that was mentioned in the beginning of EOA fandom days. Esteban and Prof. Mendoza. probably stemming with how easily Prof. Mendoza dispatched Esteban’s foibles with aplumb in Finders Leapers.
“I’m just saying, I should get to interrogate her too! I’m one of your best friends. I’m the one who said she’d be perfect for you!”
Esteban rubbed his temples in annoyance at his companion’s insistence that she talk to Zelia about their new relationship. Honestly, Dona Paloma was like a dog with a bone on the subject of his romantic life. First, trying to set him up, now this. And how the hell did they went from tariffs to this topic anyway?
“My family has already met her over dinner and like her, and you didn’t set us up. We’ve known each other for years before you even suggested I go out with her.”
“But I’m the one who said you should date her. I set you up, I expect full credit at your future wedding. Can I plan it?”
Esteban facepalmed, groaning, “No, I’m not putting my wedding in your hands. And you don’t get credit for anything. My relationship with Zelia progressed without any interference from you.”
“I just want to see how happy she is with you and if she deserves you,” Dona protested, swiping the hand that was still stuck to Esteban’s face.
“She is enough for me.” Esteban snapped meaningfully at the insuination of Zelia’s character, “She is more than enough. It’s not a matter of whether she deserves me.”
“Please, Esteban. It’s not fair. I’m practically your family. I’ve seen you at your worst. I don’t want you to be hurt again.
Esteban almost did a double-take at that comment. Dona never made any mention that she cared about his emotional well-being. Well not in such direct words. He would make a jab tthat she was getting soft about him but addressing their relationship or vulnerabilities was not their style.
“You haven’t seen me at my worst.” Arguing and contradicting each other was much more their style.
“Uhhh the panic attacks. The multiple panic attacks. The time Shuriki found out you stopped her mercenaries from quashing a rebellion. The time when we failed to-” Dona began to list.
“Okay, fine,” Esteban sighed, conceding her point.
“I wasn’t agreeing to letting you check out Zelia,” Esteban corrected before Dona could start doing her ridiculous victory shimmy dance.
“Too bad. I already set it up. I’m meeting her for lunch,” Dona smirked, snapping her fan open with a flutter.
“What!” Esteban knocked his chair over in his suddenness and fell to the floor. Dona didn’t even have the decency to hide her laughter, “I knew you were going to be stubborn so I set it up anyway.”
“But, you, her what are you going to say?” Esteban babbled frantically, already envisioning all the rude questions and embarassing stories coming out of the former Magister’s indiscreet, gossipy mouth.
“Don’t look so horrified. I want you to be together. It’s only going to be half an hour. Just enough time to find out what I want to know. And tell her some things she should know about you.” Dona opened the door to exit Esteban’s office.
“But. . . but. .”
“You know, good things. All good things in the best of light,” Dona winked.
He was so fucked.
Which is why, hours later, he was waiting outside of Dona Paloma’s emporium as Zelia Mendoza walked up from the palace.
“Esteban what are you doing here?” Zelia asked in surprise.
“Don’t listen to anything she says!” Esteban blurted, “You know how she loves to embarrass me and cause drama. So-so don’t take any of her questions seriously. And the stories are lies!”
Zelia looked at Esteban’s flushed face for a moment and said slowly as to not agitate him further, “But if she likes embarrassing you, wouldn’t the stories be based on truth?”
“Yes, but they’d be so exaggerated that they’re lies. You don’t really have to have lunch with her. She’s not important. My family already loves you. I love you.”
Zelia took Esteban’s hands in her own, smiling a bit at Esteban’s increasing hysteria. She found it amusing the more she spent time with him. “Esteban, it’s just a short lunch. Nothing she can say or do will alter how much I love you. It’ll be fine.”
Esteban inhaled deeply, some of the anxiety he felt drifting, “I just don’t want you to be. .” he searched for the word, “Offended. She wants to check you, see if you “deserve” me. But I don’t think that. I feel lucky to have you.”
Zelia smiled fondly at her boyfriend. So eager to make her feel good and safe with him. So different from the distant and pompous chancellor she knew him as back when Shuriki was in charge and they had to work in secret to protect valuable artifacts from falling into her hands.
“I feel lucky to have you,” Zelia kissed him, “Now I’m going to go. This lunch will be fine. We’ve fought malvagos and deceitful queens and other awful people. I think I can handle a little lunch interrogation by your friend.”
“Can’t say she’ll remain my friend,” Esteban grumbled as Zelia walked inside.
“Come in, come in!” Dona Paloma grandiosly swept Zelia past the rows of merchandise into her office where a tea tray was set up on her desk.
Zelia took a seat on a plush wing-backed chair as Dona took hers at her desk, the sun shining brightly from the window behind Dona’s silhouette, causing the archeologist to squint.
“Sorry, we’re doing this so informally in my office but I have a meeting coming up. Maybe next time we can eat at a cafe. Perhaps La Vida Dulce. Has Esteban’s abuela shown you there?”
Well that was quick.
“Yes, yes, she has. Esteban and I sometimes bake chocolate there with the rest of the family,” Zelia replied, pouring herself a cup of chamomile.
“Hmmm, that’s good. And how are Esteban’s cousins, do they like you? I hear how tough it is when the family doesn’t approve of you.” Dona raised a single questioning eyebrow, her eyes intently looking at her as if searching her face for a sign of weakness.
Zelia bit the inside of her cheek at the laughably unsubtle questioning and managed a polite sip. No wonder the two clashed so much, they were too alike in their dramatics.
“I-I think they approve of me. They’re so sweet. So energetic and full of life which is a bit of an understatement with Elena. But I understand why Esteban’s so close.”
Dona nodded, “Good answer.”
Zelia choked down a reply of how many points does she need to pass the test but instead took another sip and a bite of the tapas. Thank dios, there was tea. It was the only she was going to be able to remain looking serious through this.
“And how about your extended family? Have they’ve visited since you and Esteban announced your relationship? What do you do together with Esteban?”
So so unsubtle.
“My parents invited him to one of their lectures and dinners. Well sort of a potluck, everyone brought a dish and my mother loves to share off her famous pear and pomegranate shrub. They really liked Esteban. My father “interrogated” him about our future and all that.”
Zelia answered about to continue on how Esteban ventured to try to learn some more about her parents’ research and talk about their theses when Dona interrupted.
“And Esteban had your mother’s famous pear and pomegranate shrub?”
“No, no, no. He’s allergic to pomegranates.” Zelia shook her head, she was about to say that instead Esteban had some of the kebabs she made even though she had accidentally burnt the edges. Cooking was not her speciality but he was so sweet, eating it whole without complaint of its crispiness.
“Ah, so you know about his allergies. Very good, he’s opening to you. You know how he likes to act like he’s invincible.” Dona paused and then looked at her intently as if realizing Zelia might not have known this privy information, “You do know that right?”
Zelia snorted but manahed to cough instead of letting the laugh slip out, “I think anyone who has ever met Esteban knows that.”
Dona smiled genuinely for the first time since the beginning of this lunch, “He’s very. .”
“Layered.” Zelia supplied.
“I was going to say foolish at times to make up for his incompetencies, but layered is a much nicer way to put it. Good thing you’re the one dating him and not me,” Dona laughed.
Zelia nodded emphatically, from what she’d seen of their fights and the stories of Esteban, she was pretty sure they’d kill each other before the year was up.
“Even though he’s a complicated an, Esteban is such a good catch. Handsome, somewhat mature, has a wonderful family, the title, the riches. . “
“Yes, but that’s not what really attracted me to him when I first met him,” Zelia admitted wistfully and with a bit of surprise at herself for falling for an obvious test question. It had come out so naturally/
Because it was true.
The intense look in Dona’s eyes was back again as she indiscreetly leaned closer, “What did?”
Zelia couldn’t help the unconscious smile that spread across her face as she wracked her brain for the exact words she was looking for.
“I’I’ve been on my own most of my life. My romantic life was a desert to say the least. But Esteban. . . even though we butted heads and avoided each other at first, I’ve come to know his nobleness, his passion. He cares about people. He sees nuances in life and. . he knows what it’s like to have your life consumed by work, to feel your job defines you and you can’t be much more. Yet you want to be so much more. He encourages me to do what I want outside of work. I love that. I love how he makes me feel like life can be fun and exciting and hard and we can survive it with each other. . I just, there’s so many things. It’s his character. I love him.”
“And he truly loves you too, Dona said softly, “You fit well. You know each other well.”
A sly smie swept across her face as she leaned over conspiratorially, “I bet you know about Margarita.”
“His mother, yes?" Zelia edged slowly, starting to suspect that the embarrassing stories that Esteban warned her about were going to be revealed.
“And you know how much he loves her and misses her. Well one night, after a few too many brandies, Esteban decided on the perfect way to honor her.”
20 minutes later, Zelia left the store with a wave and almost walked right into Esteban who was pacing nervously outside. “How was it? What did she say? I love you more than anything.”
“I told you, it was fine. She approves of me. We’re going shopping next week.”
Esteban looked at her with a face of abject horror, “Ar-Are you friends now?”
Zelia was almost tempted to say yes just to see his reaction but decided not push it, “No, I don’t know if we have enough in common to be best friends or anything. But we’re going to hang out. She’s going to get me discounts at the arboretum.”
Esteban’s face visibly relaxed, “That’s it. She didn’t tell you anything? No stories?”
“Well. . .”
Esteban groaned, slumping against the store’s door.
“I didn’t think they were that embarrassing. I thought it was sweet you wanted to honor your mom with a tattoo. It was the artist’s fault for thinking it was the drink and not the name.”
“Ughh why?”

Of course, you may know about that, but I'll ask anyway. Did you know that the episodes where Naomi and Gabe wanted to "prove something" were written by Silvia Olivas (the show's story editor)? What a coincidence, huh?
Actually, I'm not sure I knew that. I'm not even sure which episodes you mean since Gabe and Naomi want to prove something literally in each episode focused on them ×)

Second Thoughts on Finders Leapers
Considering that Esteban helped Shuriki take over Avalor because he wanted more power than he was given as a teenager, it’s no wonder that he resents Naomi being on the grand council. Not only does she have much more authority than he had at her age, and not only was it given so freely, she has much less royal experience than he had back then, when he was denied. Honestly, it would make me pretty salty, too.
It’s been pointed out by others that, in light of what we learned in Elena and the Secret of Avalor, Esteban seems to be doing everything he can to keep another Avalor invasion from being pinned on him, but frankly, I just saw him as trying to undermine Naomi and make sure she never had more authority than he did ever again.
Naomi: I thought i needed to prove to everyone that I belonged on the grand council, but the truth is, I just needed to prove it to myself Esteban.
Also, this is the last time we’ve seen the grand council actual do anything, as far as I can recall.

Thoughts on Esteban in “The Incredible Shrinking Royals”
The last time we saw Esteban was in “Naomi Knows Best,” which ended with Skylar saying that maybe Naomi should be chancellor, and Elena teasing that there was something to that idea before walking off laughing.
“The Incredible Shrinking Royals” is his first appearance of the season, and it’s a doozy. I know some people might think his growth seen in S2 is erased, or think him an antagonist again, but I don’t see it that way.
First off, I’d like to say something about personal growth: it’s not a straight line. There will be times someone slips up and falls into old habits. It’s what they do after the fact that matters. Do they give up and give in, or do they continue their journey? In Esteban’s case, I believe it to be the latter.
Second off, I’ll paint a picture of Esteban’s probably mental state at the start of things. It’s pretty clear in canon that he’s very sensitive to any implications that he’s losing his place - whether in his family or his position. Recently, that teasing about Naomi replacing him struck that sensitivity, so I imagine he’s still sore about any and all slights - real or perceived.
Esteban’s part in the episode begins as he’s listening to Doña explain her idea for the Feast of Friendship. It is quickly revealed she didn’t have the authority to do so, and Esteban delights in not missing that moment.
Julio announces his plans to “shake things up” and not host it at Doña’s emporium. As in “All Kingdoms Fair,” Esteban takes pleasure in Doña Paloma not getting her way. He rubs the salt in her wound by declaring Julio’s idea great, and that he always says change is a good thing. Elena knows that’s fake.
His tune quickly changes once Julio excludes him from the Feast of Friendship and calls it “cutting out the middleman.”
We know from “Masks of Magic” how seriously he takes the feast, so it��s a big blow for him. Not only is there not a mini marzipan Esteban, but he’s being pushed out.
Elena approves of Julio’s ideas, and Esteban remains excluded from things.
Now joined in misery, Esteban and Doña rant to each other about the decision. Their status of frenemies moves toward the friendlier side of the spectrum, and Doña suggests a teamup to prove Julio’s incompetence at running the fest. The two become Team Scheme.
The two decide to bring in King Hector to ruin the feast, so she can prove she’s better and mini marzipan Esteban is vindicated for his exclusion. Naturally, he makes sure to get himself a front row seat and becomes an attaché for Hector.
Just when he and Doña think their plan has become a success, everyone (minus Julio who stepped out) shrinks down.
Things quickly become a disaster, and all of their lives are in danger - from rolling food, falling objects, and a determined crayfish.
Esteban and Doña bicker about whose fault it is, and Elena overhears.
Elena is mad as all get out that they sabotaged Julio’s feast - something which is very important to the kingdom, and she knows Esteban’s aware. He tries to explain himself, but, between her anger over his actions and the danger, she doesn’t want to hear it and tells him he’ll explain himself to the Grand Council.
He immediately expresses remorse over his actions. He knows how badly he messed up, and that an explanation won’t fix it.
Once they’re all safe and the feast is a success, Elena doesn’t miss the chance to remind Doña and Esteban of their actions and refers to them as “obstacles” for Julio. While Doña has a subdued reaction to the pointed remark, Esteban is clearly ashamed.
Okay, so now that the recap is out of the way, I’ll get into some thoughts. The whole reason Esteban made a deal with Shuriki was to prove himself, and we’ve seen scheme other times when trying to prove he���s better (“Model Sister” and “Finders Leapers”). Despite the fact he’s already proven himself by keeping Avalor prospering under Shuriki’s rule, he still feels inferior, and, while he’s made some steps in communicating better with others/giving people a chance, he is still falling into that old trap.
Instead of asking to accompany Elena to the feast, he participates in scheming with Doña. Perhaps he felt betrayed that Elena agreed to Julio’s idea, but he doesn’t talk things out with her. Ultimately, he wanted to be included and have his value validated, but struggles with healthy communication. It’s not surprising given that he spent 41 years closely working with Shuriki, and he’s had around 3 years with his family again. Unlearning defense mechanisms and bad habits that are so ingrained is tough. He’s bound to slip up from time to time.
I think what shows that growth is still there is how quickly he accepts fault. Finders Leapers!Esteban kept shrugging it off until he’d been called out a few times and even then he didn’t really care what others thought. Does Esteban need to do better? Yes. Is he a bad person? No.
Also, Elena made the right call by bringing it up to the Grand Council, as his actions interfered with Avalor’s well-being. He knows she’s making the right call, and that this could’ve been another situation when his issues made a mess for Avalor (and his family). He’ll accept the consequences of his actions.

I loved the last posts I could see especially those about my dear chancellor. I like to know the opinions of other fans and reading them I wondered why me, I loved so much Esteban.
It's a complex character, with a rather particular story, and I love it. The perfect prince charming is good but between us the story of a man who betrays his family, served a dictator for 41 years, rallied to his cousin and languish in his betrayal while hiding, c is even more interesting. This is the first time I really wonder how it will end. Although forgiveness is the most likely option, I am really looking forward to seeing this scene of confessions and revelations. I had imagined a trashy ending like Esteban sacrificing himself to save his family and "redeem themselves in their eyes" but we will calm down. It's still a Disney (good ok Mufasa and Tadashi were not spared) and if something similar happened, I would certainly be traumatized for life.😶
I will not go four ways, I find Esteban beautiful, distinguished and very attractive.😍 I tend to put physics afterwards and that's what I did. After falling in love with her personality, I fell in love with everything else. His eyes, his hair, his mustache, everything ... everything! Not to mention his manners, his refinement, his outfit, I fall totally in love. For his voice because I am Belgian, I am more used to the French voice that I like but I admit that his voice in English is very attractive.
I can identify with him. So no, I have never served as a witch and I have no plans of treason for my family. But like him, I can be selfish and put my needs ahead of others, even if I really care about my family. I am also a perfectionist, organized with the profile of the studious and serious student who does not know how to have fun but it is only an impression. And then, nobody resembles me more than Esteban on Navidad day. I'm just eating and trying to guess where are my presents under the Christmas tree😏😂
He is funny but so funny. And without really wanting it. Even his mistakes amused me as in "Finder Leapers" where he totally denies his mistakes even if they are right under his nose. He has an incredible way of denying it. Or in "The kingdom fair" where he manipulates Julio and Doñia Paloma with all the delicacy of the world. Of course, I liked it in "Movin 'on up" as well as in every episode where it appears. He still amuses me so much.
And of course its incredible evolution. He has gone from a jealous, envious man who covets power to a true friend, ally, cousin, and so on. He has evolved and learned from his mistakes while keeping his personality colorful. He proved his bravery and courage in "The King of Carnival", the love of his family in this same episode, as well as in "The Island of Youth" and "Snow Place Home". I also find that in "Shapeshifters" when he wants to prevent Elena from finding Shuriki, he makes good sense and cares about his cousin's life. He wants to protect her and he's right.
