Finding Yourself
Finding yourself means finding your purpose in life (all of us definitely have a purpose). Sometimes, you come to a point in your life wherein you get to ask yourself – why am I here? What is my purpose? Questions that needed much deeper thinking as these are the kinds of questions that no one could answer for you.
Knowing oneself is a journey, a long journey for some perhaps as it takes them years to finally truly find themselves. And once you’ve found yourself, then you could say – I have lived my life.
Here’s a quote by Henry David Thoreau that I love, “Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.”
Many of us I could say, seem to be lost and want to find the right direction. Lost in the sense that we deem that our lives have no direction. Experiencing such feelings of losing direction more often leads to consequences that we sometimes could have avoided if we are in the right direction.
How does one find himself after being lost? Well, below are several tips on how to do this.
Accept yourself above all.
Make peace with who you are as how can you expect others to like you if you don’t like or love yourself? Accept yourself above all insecurities so that your authentic self-shines. Accept yourself with all your flaws and imperfections. Only then will you draw people to like and see the real you.
Perfect is not real.
There’s no such thing as a perfect person. Nobody is. Someone trying to be perfect tend to discourage people from liking them. Show your flaws and imperfections as these may be endearing to some people. Let the real you lead the way.
Accept everything.
Stop judging. Accept all that comes your way, whether good or bad, and accept people for who they are. Good things do make us happy however, bad things should be a challenge for us. Remember, beneath these challenges is a blessing or life-learned lesson that will teach us something that we would definitely be able to use in the future.
Be selfish.
Try to have 50% selfishness and 50% selflessness. Balance the two. Have “me-time” as often as you could. Remember, true joy comes from being able to realize that only you could create your own happiness. Figure out what makes you happy, energizes you, and connects with yourself. It is alright to be selfish sometimes as you can’t always try to help people who in the end, really don’t need your help or are ingrateful to any help that you provide to them.
Your core is your stabilizer – physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Whenever you feel worn out or feel negative thoughts creeping in, draw your stomach in, and hold it, then take some deep breaths and you will immediately center yourself in a powerful way. It’s a very simple, life-changing tool.
Know the value of friendship.
We do not choose the family we are born into, but often, we assume that this family defines who we are. During childhood, our family affects everything about us. Towards adulthood, we get to meet people who would play a huge part in our lives. They will make us happy, support us whenever we need it from them, and inspire us to be passionate about our lives. Choose your friends wisely as these friends affect us in seeing what the world has to offer.
Once lost can ALWAYS be found, remember that!

Hello my dear seafarers. Thank you for stopping by my lovely alcove. I’m Yara, your local siren. Please wet your feet along the beach, or perhaps you’d like to explore more of depths and where they lead. Or maybe you’d like to learn more about me. But I must warn you, there are some rules you must follow in order to swim in these waters. 🧜🏾‍♀️♒️

“As a Canadian, I grew up spending a lot of time in Los Angeles and never liked it. I didn’t even know where to start. It’s so big. It’s intimidating.
[Then] I realized that I was looking at Los Angeles as this total experience, as opposed to loving the fact that L.A. is made up of small, incredible neighborhoods.
You can’t go about loving the city as a whole, you have to find your way into it through a neighborhood that suits you.”

First, he’s right that LA is an amazing city of neighborhoods, you just have to find the right ones for you.
And second, like any intimidating task, it always helps to break it down into smaller chunks.  Like neighborhoods.
