Just what is it with wiki editors and trans characters?
It’s still June, which means it’s still pride month, which means I’m still updating this blog more often than the usual maybe 3 times a year, and today I’d like to talk to you about some fictional characters who are trans and the weird wiki entries bending over backwards to deny it. And I’m not even playing this game on hard mode here, talking about like the cast of FF6 or something. I’m here to talk about a gal from Final Fight, and a guy from One Piece.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh and I guess I’m also talking about Poison. You all know Poison right? She’s pretty commonly referred to as the first trans woman in a video game, specifically Final Fight in 1989. And that little fun fact is... not an actual fact.
Prior to Final Fight, we had Ms. Pac-Man in 1982. While I hesitate to deadname even fictional characters, Ms. Pac-Man began life as Crazy Otto, and had a brief stint going by Super Pac-Man and a couple other monikers before going with just Ms. Pac-Man. I don’t see why she shouldn’t count.
Perhaps you think we shouldn’t count Ms. Pac-Man because to your reasoning, the origins of the game and the character re-design process behind don’t qualify as transitioning? OK then, the next example that comes immediately to mind is Luigi, from Super Mario Bros., in 1993. Who has had a remarkably consistent portrayal as being very very into feminine clothes, acting super girly while wearing them, and quite enjoying this. Doesn’t count because it’s all in supplementary material? No, it’s in multiple games too. Want to argue there was no in-game confirmation prior to the release of Final Fight? That’s really splitting hairs now, particularly when tie-in media got onboard this train quite early on. Perhaps you want to make the argument that Luigi is not trans, but is a cis man who likes to crossdress, perhaps as a sexual fetish? That is a weird argument to make about a character from a series of games aimed at young children but you do you.
How about Metroid, 1986? Samus canonically dresses like a man, uses masculine pronouns, and when that armor comes off we reveal a woman in a low cut leotard ready to start living it up. Who’s also canonically two meters tall, has super broad shoulders, had her biochemistry tweaked as a child... I think I wrote a whole separate post on this once. We still gonna play the “oh that’s all a disguise/misunderstanding” card on that one?
Well, Doki Doki Panic came out in 1987. Birdo (Catherine in Japan) is quite explicitly a trans woman. It’s right there in the manual, and ad campaigns, and really tastelessly referenced in many sources since. What possible justification could anyone use to argue she isn’t trans?
Well, let’s ask Wikipedia.
Tumblr media
“ Since the character's North American introduction, Birdo's gender identity has been an issue of discussion and speculation. The Japanese manual for Doki Doki Panic, when translated into English, states her name to be Catherine and as a man who thinks of himself as female, adding that she likes to wear a bow and would rather be called "Cathy."  However, in the first edition manual for the North American release of Super Mario Bros. 2, Birdo is referred to by a text block that states "he thinks he is a girl" and would "rather be called 'Birdetta.'" In later printings, mention of Birdo being male was omitted. Mention of this fact is further not included in most later games featuring the character and seems to have been retconned to Birdo always being a female to begin with. In the Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. Melee, Birdo, called Catherine, is described similarly to the original manual, though wanting to be called "Cathy." In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it is said that Birdo is of "indeterminate gender." Birdo appears in the Wii Japan-only video game Captain Rainbow, which delves into Birdo's gender identity. It specifically depicts her being imprisoned for entering the women's bathroom, and the player is asked to locate proof of her femininity (her vibrator) to get her out. Birdo is often lauded as the first transgender video game character. The character was given a female voice actor in Super Mario Advance, a remake of Super Mario Bros. 2. The Spanish language website for Mario Smash Football while describing Birdo suggests that the character's gender is indeterminate. The European website for Mario Strikers Charged Football refers to Birdo as a male character.”
And later in the same article, we have this whole subsection:
Tumblr media
“Gender identity
Birdo has been the subject of discussion relating to her gender identity and has been regarded as transgender. She has become a trans icon due to her gender identity. She has been credited as an early transgender character in video games. The manual excerpt from Super Mario Bros. 2 about Birdo's gender did not receive attention until some time after the game's release. Writer Lorenzo Fantoni suggested that this was because few people read the manual or because no one cared about Birdo's gender at the time. Fantoni also compared the Captain Rainbow scene to the later bathroom debates regarding trans people. Fantoni also suggests that Nintendo does not know what to do with Birdo and that changes to Birdo's character are made to match present-day morals. Author Sam Greer was critical of Birdo's portrayal, stating that her gender had become a "running joke" and was the "subject of much derision and stereotyping." Paste Magazine's Jennifer Unkle criticized Birdo as a caricatured trans person and as an example of Nintendo's poor handling of gender identity in general.
It is speculated by Wired's Chris Kohler that the gender issue was retconned to make her a cisgender female, while video game developer Jennifer Diane Reitz suggests that she may have undergone gender reassignment surgery. Writer Andrew Webster of The Escapist used the history of Birdo in the lead-in to his article, commenting on the changes Nintendo has made to hide Birdo's gender status.”
Weird efforts by wiki editors to try and establish some sort of “ambiguity” or “controversy” here highlighted in bold. Really though, ALL of this text can quite easily be boiled down to just “it used to be that every single mention of this character in any source of any kind felt compelled to include a gross transphobia-informed vulgar 'joke’ about her being trans, but more recently, in North American localizations, they don’t do that as often.”
I wasn’t planning to focus so heavily on Birdo, but wow what a fantastic example of the thinking at play here. Nobody’s trans unless you’re explicit about it. And by explicit about it we mean making gross jokes... and even then the character is only assumed to be trans when we hear that joke, if you go too long without making any, they revert to being cis.
Anyway I’m sure there’s plenty of other examples with other weird excuses not to count them that I’m forgetting. Was Faria out before Final Fight? It’s hard to pin old arcade releases down to a particular month.
How about Final Fight though? Poison isn’t even the first trans character in the game she appears in. Roxy pops in at the tail end of the first level, then again just before Poison, her palette swap. Believe it or not though, there are absolutely people out there who will insist that Poison is trans but Roxy isn’t. I have a lot of building up to do here but have a little tease from the dedicated Street Fighter wiki to get us going...
Tumblr media
Before getting into why “it has been speculated” that Roxy is trans, let’s head over to regular wikipedia and see what they have to say about Poison’s “gender history” shall we?
Tumblr media
“Originally conceived as a female thug in Final Fight and part of the game's antagonist group, Mad Gear, concerns during the game's development about reactions from North American audiences to fighting women led to the character being re-imagined as a "newhalf". However, that was not considered satisfactory and both Poison and her palette swap Roxy were replaced by the male characters "Billy" and "Sid" and have been for every subsequent North American port of the title on Nintendo consoles and handhelds. After the Final Fight series, she later appeared alongside wrestler Hugo, acting as his manager, with her schemes revolving around finding a tag team partner for him or developing their own wrestling organization. Poison first appeared as a playable character in Final Fight Revenge. She was also to appear in both Capcom Fighting All-Stars and Final Fight: Streetwise; however, the former was canceled and she was omitted from the latter as development progressed. Following those aborted attempts, she ended up appearing as a playable character on Street Fighter X Tekken. She was also added as a playable character to Ultra Street Fighter IV.
The character's potential status as a trans woman, consciously left ambiguous by the developers, has remained a topic of frequent debate by both fans and media alike.”
OK we’re going to be here a while, this is just the first section. Before even getting into the point I was going to make it’s super weird not to mention that she’s a playable character in Street Fighter V, how long ago was this last edited? Anyway, right off the bat, we have perhaps the most oft-repeated lie in video games. Which is even called out as such in the next section here... while repeating it again.
Tumblr media
“Conception and history
Poison's first appearance in Final Fight featured her and a palette swap character named Roxy as recurring minor enemies for the player to fight. Named after the band by an unnamed female employee at Capcom, she was designed by Akira Yasuda to contrast against the bigger characters in the game and move about randomly and described as a "cool and rebellious woman". According to the book All About Capcom Head to Head Fighting Games and Final Fight director Akira Nishitani, the characters were originally planned to be cisgender women, but were changed to "newhalfs" (a Japanese slang term for trans women) after the game's release, due to the suggestion that "hitting women was considered rude" in America and the concern that feminist groups would sue. However, concept artwork included in the 2005 compilation Capcom Classics Collection of the pair specifically uses the kana for 'newhalf' (ニューハーフ), contradicting the statement the change occurred post-release. In 2007 Nishitani stated that he supposed the character "could be male", but added it was up to the viewer to decide. He later clarified in a discussion on Twitter that in his personal view Poison was a woman. Yasuda himself commented that as far as her gender, he considers her transgender in North American localizations, but cis in Japan.
A later appearance by Poison as a playable character in Final Fight Revenge, an American-produced 3D fighting game spinoff of Final Fight, portrayed the character in a highly feminine manner and had her romantically interested in Final Fight hero Cody. Commentary about her ending in the game in All About Capcom suggested that the character may have received sex reassignment surgery. The Final Fight-related character profiles featured in Capcom Classics Collection instead allude to her being a cross-dresser, while addressing Roxy as a "she" who dislikes Poison's cross-dressing.
Street Fighter IV's producer Yoshinori Ono, when asked in an interview about Poison's gender, stated: "Let's set the record straight: In North America, Poison is officially a post-op transsexual woman. But in Japan, she simply tucks her business away to look female." He later emphasized it again when asked about what female characters could be included in the game Street Fighter IV, stating that it would be too confusing to include her due to the region-specific gender. However, in a 2011 interview with Electronic Gaming Monthly at the Tokyo Game Show, he stated that Capcom "doesn't have a stance technically", and while they wouldn't give an official answer, felt it was up to the viewer to decide. He added that his intent was to please all fans and that the mystery behind her gender was the core of the character. During the same interview, a Capcom representative further added that they worked closely with GLAAD, an organization concerned with the portrayal of LGBT people in media, to ensure "anything that might be offensive has been very tailored to not be" for Poison's portrayal in Street Fighter X Tekken.”
Where do I begin? Besides shouting a string of profanity and mashing my keyboard while I read all that. Well first of all, I’m fairly certain every woman who has ever worked at Capcom has, in fact, had a name. Also can we have a look at that Final Fight Revenge ending that allegedly hints at her getting bottom surgery?
Tumblr media
I don’t even want to diagram the thought process by which one would get from some stock tropey “I bet I could make him like me” to “clearly this alludes to her running off to get surgery performed after this.”
Anyway damn, I haven’t even gotten to the sections on “censorship” and “reception” here, but I don’t want to be here all night. So let’s just say there’s a bunch of quotes from various people about how she’s really hot, half of those add some “I hope that doesn’t make me gay” sort of comment, and we have a couple more rephrasings of the big lie. So... yeah let’s get into that properly.
So... game developers tend to be gross creeps who love dehumanizing jokes about women and queer people in general, “games journalism” has traditionally been the realm of clueless teens quoting each other in circles, paraphrasing press releases, and pasting anything that claims to be a translation of an interview with someone speaking Japanese, said interviews tend to involve flummoxed third party interpreters, and none of these people are particularly likely to know a single damn thing about trans people, let alone what various slurs and terms in languages they don’t speak really imply.
So, first off, there’s nothing at all “mysterious” or “left to the player’s imagination” about the Final Fight girls. They are a pair of trans women who when not busy being brawler enemies or getting folded into the Street Fighter franchise and rounded out are sex workers, specifically catering to the the plausible deniability crowd who can go “hey she totally looked like a hot cis girl when I picked her up” in regards to women they very much know are trans and haven’t had bottom surgery. It’s a pretty common fetish. There has never actually been any ambiguity or deviation on that. It’s spelled out plain as day right on their original designs. Which I have a scan of, right here!
Tumblr media
There it is, plain as day. If you can read katakana, and you’re up on your Japanese sex work slang, there’s no ambiguity here. Same term all these developers keep tossing out in interviews. It ends up getting translated in all sorts of awkward ways because an interpreter is going to have to try and clean it up and simplify it, especially back when most of these quotes were pulled (the one from Ono is a bit more explicitly worded) and I’m guessing all the bits of “well in America she’d be considered a woman” stem from our language regarding trans women being a bit better generally, and/or a further weird crack because, well, America is kind of the country all the other country’s trans women come to when they want bottom surgery. Very few people in the world perform it, and we have a shocking percentage plus the best reviewed ones. Now you know.
The whole story about “making them trans in the U.S. to avoid being sued by feminists” is... just self-evidently BS? That’s like, a 10 year old on a playground’s understanding of “feminists” and the concept of a lawsuit. The closest thing to a source on it is a vague second or third hand anecdote passed along a decade after the fact from someone who thought one of them was blonde. Plus when you remove the later embellishment about neither of them being trans before being swapped out for random guys in the SNES release, it’s uh... pretty obviously all just a setup for a gross “trans women aren’t really women” joke. So let’s all stop spreading that around and get an adult to fix wikipedia.
All THAT said, back to the full text of the funniest thing I’ve ever read on a wiki:
Tumblr media
“Trivia
Roxy is named after the English rock band Roxy Music. It has been speculated that Roxy is transgender like Poison not only due to the latter's gender history but also because of Roxy being referred to as a "newhalf" (Japanese term for a pre-op transgender person) in her original character concept art, but this has never been confirmed or denied.”
Yes, that’s right. According to the Street Fighter wiki, some people have this wacky theory that Roxy might be trans, just because the artist who first designed her wrote a giant note under the illustration stating “hey this is a trans woman!” And apparently this “has never been confirmed or denied” despite the citation note literally linking to her original concept art. Which, again, could not be more clear on this subject.
Tumblr media
You can’t even ask, “what do designers have to do? Spell it out for you!?” because they ACTUALLY DID in this case.
But I’ve got one more for you all. The other day see, someone showed me a recent scan from the manga One Piece, with a very satisfied “well that should finally settle this.”
Tumblr media
So... full disclosure here, I haven’t been up to date on what’s going on in One Piece for at least like a decade, and my effort to catch up on the context here ironically just involved me hastily trying to look up what that is with the horns between Luffy and Zoro. I’m not even sure what his name is. But I sure as hell know when I’m looking at some wiki editing weirdo trying to deny a character is trans when I see it.
Like all trans characters with wiki pages, we have a big subsection just labelled “Gender” which does some filibustering about “controversy” Japanese not using gendered third person pronouns (and conveniently ignoring the first person ones) and so on before begrudgingly hitting us with something like this:
Tumblr media
“However, certain statements by characters in the manga have continued to create confusion and uncertainty regarding Yamato's gender, particularly regarding Yamato being referred to as Kaidou's son. Yamato has stated that she refers to herself as Kaidou's son due to her desire to adopt Oden's identity, saying "Oden was a man, wasn't he? So I chose to be a man too!"  Yamato has also been referred to as Kaidou's son by Kaidou himself as well as the Beasts Pirates; though their reasons for doing so still remain unclear, given their relationship with the real Oden and their reactions to Yamato claiming to be the legendary samurai. This has led to a significant portion of the fanbase believing that, in-universe, characters who know Yamato consider her to be male, and the official VIZ and Funimation translations have taken this approach, with Luffy and the Beasts Pirates referring to Yamato with masculine ("he/him") pronouns.”
I know, I know, us trans people are always itching to claim any character we can as a trans guy, but just because someone unambiguously says 'I am a man' and 'I am this guy's son' and that guy says 'yes, this is my son' and the official translation exclusively uses he/him pronouns, and when visiting the bathhouse he heads to the men's side and nobody bats an eye at that, well that doesn't really mean ANYTHING, necessarily!
For real though, wiki editors are out here admitting to going out of their way to misgender this guy and stubbornly shout that the official localization is wrong. There’s also some grasping at straws involving a trading card, but like... even if the guy writing the manga were to say “oh this character is actually a girl” that wouldn’t trump the fact that he... unambiguously says “I’m a guy, refer to me as a guy, everyone refers to me as a guy, I am living my life as a guy.” Like, that wins. The only way to argue this isn’t a trans character is if you want to go and say he was actually assigned male at birth and we should just ignore the gynecomastia that might have lead to thinking otherwise.
I don’t know what it is about people who edit wikis where they find it so damn hard to admit when a character is trans, but according to the standard they seem to have set, I guess I have to infer that no cis person has ever actually existed in any work of fiction, or indeed in real life! If they did we’d clearly be bombarded with crass jokes about them.
Also for real, for as often as people make [citation needed] jokes, nobody who edits wikipedia seems to know a primary source from a hole in the ground. People seem to just be searching for whatever they just typed, pasting the first hit, and praying nobody thinks to look at any of the footnotes. It is a MESS down there.

i keep thinking about how dean wanted out of the hunter life. how his entire life, from age 4, he had to be in charge and managing crisis after crisis, and how he is essentially a posterboy for trauma, and it is making me so furious i could CRY that the "happy end" they gave him was death + being spit into "heaven". what kind of an absolutely SHITTY message is that, after the feelings of rage, helplessness and brokenness he had been battling, to have him basically give in, and find relief only in death, i am FUMING. on behalf of ANYONE who has trauma and is fighting, struggling, clawing their way to independence, freedom, their small version of happiness and a home, FUCK the writers who made that ending up. i CANT. those who are viewing this as happy in any shape or form have priviledged, sheltered experiences (or internalized highly problematic views). sorry for the rant but i am UNRAVELLING. he never owned his narrative, and they took everything from him. everything. - 🧩, obvs in my feels & spiralling this evening, apologies
i just read your ask and immediately felt deflated fhsdhf and i don't have anything to add (cause my mental state cannot afford it right now tbh lmaooo) but wanted to say i completely 100% agree with you and it is just SO upsetting, i fucking hate what they did and i cannot think about it too much or i too shall spiral. sigh. sorry you are going through it, though i get why for suree. fuck that ending.

Reiner Braun General Yandere Profile
Requested privately on Tumblr.
Reiner is my favorite Attack on Titan character, so this was fun to write.
WARNINGS: NSFW portion, spoilers
Aware, Delusional, or Denialistic?
Is he aware of what he is doing or is he delusional/in denial?
Reiner is aware. I would say delusional, because he can be a little, but he knows what he’s doing is wrong. He cries over the guilt of what he’s doing on a regular basis, especially if it hurts you. He wants nothing more than for you to be happy, but he’s also very selfish.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Obsessive or Possessive?
Does he care more about you or about owning you?
Reiner is obsessive- he cares about you so, so, so much. He cares so much that it hurts. He does want you to be his, desperately, but he cares a lot about your comfort and happiness. It’s a struggle between wanting you and wanting your happiness.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Behavior Analysis:
How does he generally behave around you?
Reiner is a big brother figure in a sense. He’s protective, defending you from anyone that hurts you and from titans. If you’re an “island devil”, he wants to protect you from titan shifters too. He enjoys making you laugh and seeing you smile, so he often jokes around with you. He’s softer with you, finally happy for once in his tragic life.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Utilize or Avoid kidnapping?
Does he prefer kidnapping you or does he prefer finding other methods to obtain you?
Reiner wants desperately to have a normal relationship with you, but he’ll probably resort to kidnapping. His life is dangerous, deadly. He doesn't have a choice.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spiral Analysis:
Does he spiral out of control quickly or is he able to hold on to his humanity for a long time before he snaps?
Reiner spirals quickly. He definitely has attachment issues, so the minute someone shows him some understanding and kindness, he latches on to them. That’s bad news for you, because it makes him snap pretty quickly. After all, the world is a dangerous place.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Restrain, Threaten, or Barricade?
Does he resort to restraining you, threatening you, or locking down the building/room to keep you kidnapped?
Reiner locks down the room to keep you there. He would never threaten you, he loves you too much for that. And he knows you’d be miserable if you were restrained. He wants you as happy as possible, although you can never leave.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Escape Attempt Analysis:
How he would react to a successful or failed escape attempt.
He’d be heartbroken! Sobbing into your neck with his arms wrapped tightly around you as soon as he got ahold of you again. He knows you’re not happy here, but he needs you.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Manipulate or Overpower?
How easy would it be to overpower or manipulate him in order to escape?
Overpowering is impossible, I mean, he’s the armored titan and very strong in human form. Manipulation is a possibility, however. Reiner’s mental state is not very good, so if you can take advantage of his guilt and past trauma, you might be able to escape. But you’ll probably feel very bad about doing it.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lenient or Strict?
How long is the chain (metaphorical or not) that he keeps you on?
Reiner lets you do whatever you want in the room he keeps you in. He wants your happiness, so he tries to buy you things that will make you happy. He’s not rich by any means, but we’ve seen how he likes to spoil the ones he cares about, so he’d definitely try to spoil you.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rule and Punishment Analysis:
What kind of rules he has and what punishments you receive for breaking them.
Reiner doesn’t punish and he doesn’t set any rules. If you try to escape or say something hurtful, he’ll just feel like he deserves it.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rival Elimination Analysis:
How he deals with rivals and potential elimination methods.
Reiner doesn’t deal with rivals out of jealousy, but only out of fear for your safety. For instance, if you have a bully. He’d feel very little guilt about killing them because he’s saving you. But sometimes, all they need is a little intimidation, since Reiner’s a big, muscular guy with titan powers.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anger Analysis:
How easily he angers, how that anger looks, and how to calm him down.
Reiner doesn’t get angry at you, but he does get angry at people who threaten your safety, physically or emotionally. For example, if you’re Marleyan, Porco can be a real jerk to you, so Reiner’s easily angered by him. He sometimes picks a fight, but normally he stews in his silent rage. He’s calmed down only by you.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Above, Beneath, or Equal?
How does he view you: as something to worship, to own, or just as another human being?
Reiner is a worshiper. To him, you’re a perfect being, one that he’s lucky enough to just be near. He looks to you for comfort and affection and he feels like you’re the only person in the world who could ever make him happy that way.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Requite or Reject?
How does he react to you accepting or rejecting his love?
He feels like he deserves rejection, but it fuels his desire to kidnap you. After all, how can he protect you when you don’t love him? A weak argument, but he needs an excuse. Accepting however? He’s over the moon. Now you can be a happy, normal couple.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Determination Analysis:
The level of determination to get you to requite or accept his feelings.
Like I said, Reiner feels like he deserves a rejection. I think, if he kidnaps you, he’d try to treat you right and secretly wish that you’d just love him back, make things easier for the both of you, but he wouldn’t pursue that specifically too much. He doesn’t deserve your love.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NSFW
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dominant or Submissive?
Are they dominant, submissive, or a switch?
Dominant. He doesn’t mind being on the bottom, but he can’t help but take control even in that situation. He just loves the feeling of your tightness so much that he can’t help but pound into you.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Favorite Position?
Favorite sex position.
I think he’d like missionary because he can hold your hand and stare into your eyes. If he gets teary-eyed, like he sometimes does during sex with you, he can bury his face in your neck. He also likes doggy style though.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kinks?
Their favorite kinks.
I could picture Reiner maybe having a mommy kink, but he definitely has a size kink. You’re just so small or fragile compared to him!
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Favorite body part?
Their favorite body part on you.
Reiner’s an ass kind of guy, as we kind of saw with the female titan. He loves to grope your ass and watch it jiggle as you walk around.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Giver or Receiver?
Do they prefer giving or receiving pleasure?
Giving. I mean, don’t get him wrong, he loves when you suck him off, but that’s only if you’re doing it by your own choice. Otherwise, he loves to eat you out, especially when you sit on his face.

Yes, I’m making another bracket! The bracket gods have spoken and so I shall be hosting the John bracket. This as just as it sounds, a bracket for people named John!
Basic rules:
1. No real people, fictional Johns only please
2. For the first bracket, I will not be accepting variants/diminutives of John (ex. Jack, Ivan, Sean, Johnny, etc). They have to primarily go by John as a first or last name. I would like to have a second bracket where all variants are fair game though if this one goes well.
3. I am also not accepting any Jons. Yes, this includes TMA’s Jonathan Sims, I know he’s canonically a John but I’m a denialist. You can submit him for bracket two!
4. The form will remain open indefinitely, at least until the 20th, possibly longer if the Johns are slowly trickling in.
5. Please only submit each John once and only one John per form.
6. The bracket will be 32 Johns max, determined by number of submissions. There is only one confirmed John who will be participating and that is John Hart (Torchwood) as I made this entire bracket so that he can finally get a shot to compete okay 🥺😭
7. Any follow up questions, please feel free to send an ask!
Submit your Johns here!

What do u think about the fans mainly fans of the originals who say that klaroline was just a hookup and that caroline never liked klaus/ klaus never loved her. I see this sentiment alot on reddit and its so frustrating.
I think people are allowed to have their own opinions and interpretations of the show. Personally I have no hard feelings towards fans who aren't into Klaroline. I have my own opinions, which are obviously very biased, so I think it's fair that people will have their own biased opinions favoring different characters/ships that are more convenient to them. That's really the thing with media in general, different people can look at the exact same thing and have completely different views, and I'm totally ok with that.
Having said that, MY opinion is that Klaroline denialists (lol) have to pointedly ignore/turn a blind eye to a lot of things in order to completely disregard it. 😂 There's a hell of a lot of evidence, even in the final season of The Originals. I like to pretend that s5 never happened too, but it's mostly because it's an awful piece of television writing of which the KC parts and that one episode that is completely focused on Elijah are the only parts that can be salvaged. 🥲
I think that kind of thing tends to come from a new wave of fans who have started their TVDverse journey through The Originals rather than TVD, although ship wars have been around since the dawn of time. If you have only ever seen TO, then I guess Klaroline really doesn't make any sense. Even the crossover episodes that feature KC, the KC bits are kept mostly in the TVD portion. She seems to come out of nowhere in S5. Both are equally canon, one isn't truer than the other, and you need both to get a bigger picture, but some people would rather stick to just one of them. And when you've seen TO first and gotten attached to a certain ship and then go back to watch TVD, you're obviously going to have a biased view over that because what you find there is obviously not going to suit your heart's desire. It happens the other way around too.
The way I see it, it's really hard to simply deny KC when you watch TVD tho. 😂 It takes a LOT of determination lol Klaus was a total puppy for Caroline, in ways he never was for anyone else, and even in the crossover episodes, he still acts the exact same way. And come on 'he's your first love, I intend to be your last, however long it takes?' 😂 If that's not a love declaration 🤷‍
As for Caroline not liking him, it's very complex. When we get down to 5x11 in TVD, and then to S5 of TO, it becomes obvious that he's always messed with her head and she had complicated feelings for him she never wanted to tap into. Which is perfectly understandable. Klaus was a villain in TVD. He killed Elena, he ruined Tyler's life, he ruined Stefan's life, tortured him, murdered Tyler in cold blood right in front of everyone to force them to find the way to make him a hybrid, caused all sorts of havoc all over her home town. Klaus was THE BAD GUY. That's a problem I have with TO that I think gets worse for people who only see that show or who see that show first and then go back to watch TVD: they seem to think Klaus is not that bad. He's just a bad boy with a bad attitude. They fall for that cheap conversation they try to sell with Cami's character, the ~~explainer, that he's just misunderstood and all he really needed was someone to be on his side. No! Klaus is AWFUL. He's killed thousands of people! He's a villain! And that's what makes him such a great character! He never needed redemption. It's way easier for people to find him redeemable when he's done nothing to personally attack them/destroy their lives, which is obviously not Caroline's case. She's seen the very worst of Klaus. He's threatened everyone she knows, including her. And Caroline is someone who, aside from having a very strong however biased moral code, is also INCREDIBLY loyal, so of course it's going to be way harder for her to forgive Klaus and forget about the terrible things he's done to just see that she's an exception for him.
What becomes clear throughout S4 of TVD (for me, at least) is that she was struggling with how she felt and in a lot of denial. A lot of the things she says to him ('people who do terrible things are just terrible people') are really things she's saying to herself. She gets mad at the fact she's obviously ~~drawn to the darkness, and so she lashes out (because, you know, she has a personality 🤷‍). 5x11 makes that very clear as well. She doesn't want Klaus around because he clouds her judgement and it makes her mad that she's probably afraid she's not gonna be able to resist him for much longer and that's only going to complicate her life further. Everyone around her makes her feel guilty for not hating Klaus, so of course she's going to feel reluctant. But when they they do meet again in S5 of TO they're both at a point of their lives where she's ok admitting that she always wanted him to prove to her that he could do better, and that she always knew he wasn't her villain, even if he never hesitated to hurt anyone else around her, she knew she was safe with him (hence why she drove to Nola after him with her kids). She doesn't want him to die, tries to stop him by telling Elijah, and the fact she goes to New Orleans to have a last day with him, having saved that message for years and across different iPhones, probably, tells us that she had, deep down, had hopes that some day, down the line, they'd find each other again. But then they do, and it's too late (and that's really the only part of that season that is written with a certain degree of poetry tbh).
All that to say, Klaus and Caroline were complicated and clashed a lot and that's part of what made it so compelling to me. There were genuine reasons why they shouldn't be together, they were virtually on opposing sides almost the whole time, and I love that about the ship. It forced Klaus to grow a conscience. He wasn't sorry for the things he did, he wasn't trying to become a better person, there was no one petting him on the back and saying 'poor you, misundertood boy'. He was confronted with the consequences of his actions, which is, for me, the best (or worst) thing that could happen to someone like Klaus, unlike with Cami, for instance, who was just there to excuse his bad behavior.
But like I said, my opinions are completely colored by the fact that I 100% support that ship. And the same way I look down on other ships because I can't stand them, I get that other people are going to look down on my otp as well and have wildly different opinions. It's a fandom, we're never going to agree on everything, and I'm totally cool with that. There's room for everyone. Unless they come directly to my doorstep to talk shit about it, it honestly doesn't bother me. I'm all for ship and let ship.
ANYWAY 😂 Sorry for the long ted talk nonnie, I RAMBLE a lot 🥲

As our culture war rumbles on, there are hordes of denialists at hand to reassure us that it either “doesn’t exist”, or that it is a mere “distraction”. Labour MP Ben Bradshaw warns us that we need “to resist the Tory culture war”, as though it had been concocted by the very party that has presided over its worst excesses. Writing in The Scotsman, Joyce McMillian claims that the SNP’s Gender Recognition Reform Bill is “being used as a culture-war distraction”. Times columnist Matthew Parris insists that the “Why-Oh-Why War with Woke” is “not a real culture war”, and if we “stop thinking about it, stop talking about it, it will finally go away”.
Wishful thinking only explains so much. A cynic might take the view that all this talk of “distraction” is a way to minimise the significance of the culture war, a tactic likely to appeal to those who support the creeping authoritarianism of our times. But perhaps the better explanation is that culture warriors have been so successful in misleading the public when it comes to their methods and objectives. The claim that the culture war is a “distraction” is, in other words, a distraction.
This is not to deny that some tabloid “woke-gone-mad” stories are frivolous. It is, of course, eminently sensible to shrug off bitter screeds about vegan sausage rolls or reports of young people tweeting about how old sitcoms are “problematic”. All conceivable opinions are available on social media if one searches long enough. Just as the devil can cite scripture for his purpose, so too a lazy tabloid columnist can quote “the Twitterati” to confect some juicy clickbait.
That said, these kinds of trivialities are often symptomatic of a much deeper cultural malaise. We may laugh at the university that appended a trigger warning to Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea, informing students that it contains scenes of “graphic fishing”, but the proliferation of such measures is an authentic concern. It points to an increasingly infantilising tendency in higher education, one that accepts the dubious premise that words can be a form of violence and that adults require protection from ugly ideas. Worse still, it is related to growing demands that certain forms of speech must be curtailed by the state. Only this month, a poll by Newsweek found that 44% of Americans between the ages of 25 and 34 believe that “misgendering” should result in criminal prosecution.
Such developments are anything but a distraction. What has become known colloquially as the “woke” movement is rooted in the postmodernist belief that our understanding of reality is entirely constructed through language, and therefore censorship by the state, big tech or mob pressure is fully justified. In addition, this group maintains that society operates according to invisible power structures that perpetuate inequality, and that these can only be redressed through an obsessive focus on group identity and the implementation of present discrimination to resolve past discrimination. This is why the most accurate synonym for woke is “anti-liberal”.
When James Davison Hunter popularised the term “culture war” in his 1991 book Culture Wars: The Struggle to Define America, he was describing tensions between religious and secular trends as well as alternative visions of the role of the family in society. He was using the term in its established sense, where any given “culture war” has clearly defined and oppositional goals (such as the Kulturkampf of the late-19th century, which saw the Catholic Church resisting the secular reforms of Chancellor Otto von Bismarck). Hunter’s application of the term mapped neatly onto accepted distinctions of Right versus Left in American politics, which is perhaps why the notion of a “culture war” is still so often interpreted through this lens.
But our present culture war is not so simple. The goals are certainly oppositional, but the terms are vaguely defined and often muddied further through obfuscation. Rather than a reflection of antipathies between Right and Left, today’s culture war is a continuation of the age-old conflict between liberty and authoritarianism. John Stuart Mill opened On Liberty (1859) with an account of the “struggle between Liberty and Authority”; the only difference today is that the authoritarian impulse has been repackaged as “progressive”. This would help explain why a YouGov poll last week found that 24% of Labour voters believe that banks ought to be allowed to remove customers for their political views.
The idea that defending liberal principles is a kind of “distraction” amounts to an elaborate form of whataboutism. Contemporary critics of Mill might well have argued that in writing On Liberty, he was allowing himself to be distracted from more pressing causes. Why wasn’t he writing about social reform, for instance, or the Franco-Austrian war? Similarly, while some commentators ask why we are discussing climate change during a cost-of-living crisis, an environmentalist might well ask why we are discussing the cost-of-living crisis in the midst of climate change. The extent to which we are being “distracted” is very much dependent on our individual priorities.
That is not to suggest that there are not important issues that are being neglected. Matthew Syed has observed the curious lack of interest in the possibility that we are facing self-annihilation due to our rapidly advancing technology. As he points out, in an age when the full sequence of the Spanish flu can be uploaded online and reconstructed in a laboratory, “how long before it is possible for a solitary fanatic to design and release a pathogen capable of killing millions, perhaps billions?” And why, Syed asks, aren’t world leaders devoting time and money to confront these existential threats?
Syed writes persuasively, and I certainly share his concerns. But I part company when it comes to his diagnosis of our culture war as “a form of Freudian displacement”, that “the woke and anti-woke need each other to engage in their piffling spats as a diversion from realities they both find too psychologically threatening to confront”. Syed is right that there are some who specialise in the trivial, but there are many more who are undertaking in earnest the crucial task of halting the ongoing erosion of our freedoms.
The liberal approach to redressing injustices, one now routinely dismissed as “anti-woke”, has a long and illustrious history. We might look to Mary Wollstonecraft, Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King and many others who understood that freedom of speech and individual liberties were fundamental to human progress. Identity politics in its current form is directly opposed to the ideals of these great civil rights luminaries. While many of today’s culture warriors promote polarising narratives of distinct and incompatible group identities, the proponents of universal liberalism — as embodied in the movements for black emancipation, second-wave feminism and gay rights — have always advanced individual rights in the context of our shared humanity.
Far from being a distraction, then, our culture war still cuts to the heart of what kind of society we wish to inhabit. While it continues to be misapprehended as a conflict between Left and Right, those of us who are urging vigilance when it comes to the preservation of our freedoms will continue to be mistrusted and maligned. The likes of Matthew Parris are free to assert that ignoring the agents of authoritarianism will make them “go away”, but I am not aware of any historical precedents that support this view. When it comes to the culture war, apathy is tantamount to surrender.

My antivax, antimask mother-in-law: oh no! Everyone is sick! [lists a bunch of her fellow denialist cronies] It just keeps lasting forever! What have they DONE to us??
My post-COVID ass, who finally got it in 2/2024, now two weeks after getting over it but still coughing: yeah no all I’m gonna say is when I was masking and social distancing, I didn’t even get a cold between 1/2020-5/2023, and I’m STILL mad at myself for forgetting my mask when I rode with my grandpa to a hockey game. I’m never going back to the ‘multiple miserable colds plus a smattering of the flu per winter is ordinary and normal’ mentality. If imna be around other people, imna keep that mask on 🔪

"AYAKA – SIDE STORIES 02" (Part 02/04)
"IZAKAYA "KAPPA" PROSPERITY STORY"
TRANSLATION: NARU-KUN
* List of Chapters
"I'm sorry. Please come quickly."
Said a man. Pretty tall looking and somewhat philosophical. His age ranges from his twenties to his thirties. He wears an apron over his pants and clean shirt.
"If you don't think it's bad, don't call me."
The answer was from the other man, Jingi. Sticking both thumbs into the left and right pockets of his pants, he looked at the aproned man with a nonchalant face.
"Didn't I tell you on the phone? The mansion is going to Ichinoshima for a family wedding, so we don't have enough people."
"That's why I'm your assistant."
"That's because you're the most reliable."
"Not at all."
The aproned man's response made his eyebrow twitch. Although his expression was still negative, it seems that it was a good answer that tickled the heart of this labor denialist.
"Above all, you were the easiest to persuade. If they tell you, "I won't let you drink on the account again", you will definitely come, right?"
"Persuasion, huh? The general public calls it a threat, mind you."
Jingi clenched his fists and shook his body.
Seeing that, the man in the apron gave a small laugh.
"If you don't want to be called that, stop drinking on the bill from now on."
"Then please make the drink free every time. Then there will be no bills."
"Do you want to destroy the store, idiot?"
The man in the apron shook his head with a wry smile at the unlikely proposition. Then suddenly a boy was caught in the corner of his vision. It was Yukito Yanagi.
"Uh..."
Noticing the aproned man's gaze, Yukito touched the post next to him as if he was calling for help. It is a special post where Kurama Haruaki accepts applications from the Ninoshima Islanders. Oddly enough, Yukito was brought here for his mission, right near the place where he met two of Kurama's disciples the other day.
"Jingi, who is that kid?"
Looking at Yukito, the man in the apron asked.
"You've talked to him before. He's Yukito Yanagi."
"Oh, Yanagi-sensei."
The man in the apron nodded two or three times in response to his answer. Apparently, to some degree, he had heard Yukito's information through Jingi.
"I am Azuki Mitarai, the owner of the Izakaya "Usagi" in the back."
The man in the apron, Mitarai, jerked his thumb behind him. What is there is a nice two-story wooden building, although it is not large. On the sign on the second floor, the word "Usagi" is written in large letters.
"Nice to meet you, Yukito-kun."
"Hello. I'm Yukito Yanagi."
Yukito waved back as he rolled his eyes. Aside from Jingi and Momoko, who he sees every day, he still feels awkward when he meets someone for the first time. It cannot be avoided because it is the result of living a life that avoids socialization.
"Ah, that's right, Azuki-chan. He will be working with you today."
"Ah!"
Yukito's eyes widened in surprise at his words. It's an expression like "I haven't heard of that" that he wanted to model.
"I'll save myself with more manpower, but... Yukito-kun, is alright?"
"No, I..."
The next moment, when Yukito was about to reply to Mitarai's confirmation…
"Why don't you go there and have a chat with your teacher, my beloved disciple?"
Grabbing the disciple by the neck, the master pulled him without saying yes or no. Yukito finally managed to untie the devotion arm from him when he was some distance away from "Usagi" and Mitarai.
"What is this? What happened to the new training?"
Yukito frowned and walked over to him.
"This is training."
Jingi spoke without any sign of remorse.
"Please stop joking around. No matter how you look at it, it's a part-time worker at an Izakaya. It's completely irrelevant, right?"
"Hey, who said that you are training to connect your pulse? This will train your communication skills!"
"This, my communication skills?"
"That's right. You've lived avoiding people because you're afraid that your powers will get out of control, right? That's why, when you talk to people, you're afraid. Your eyes water. Your voice shakes. So, what do you do when your classmates talk to you in high school? Don't miss out on making friends."
"Oh...!"
Yukito, who was leaning forward to denounce his righteousness, leaned back slightly.
Definitely, without a doubt, the words of dedication are a fallacy. He intends to involve Yukito in order to reduce his own work, even a little.
Even Yukito is fully aware of that. But...
"Will I improve my communication skills through this "training"? If that's the case, a fun high school life surrounded by friends is your thing."
Just like the finishing blow, Jingi whispered into Yukito's ear. The cloudy smile, the sweet words that make people happy and the whispers of the devil.
"That's cowardly... That way of saying it."
Yukito didn't want to give up. However, the words no will no longer come out.
"I'm going to tell Azuki-chan that you're ready to work too."
"Ah..."
Yukito's voice stopped him as he realized something.
"What?"
"Actually, I'm a high school student yet. Is it okay to work part-time?"
"Don't worry. Ichinoshima's mainland atmosphere aside, other islands don't care about such details."
"But..."
"I get it. Well, let's say you're here to help out at a friend's house, not a part-time job. Then, as a token of gratitude, I'll get paid for it and that'll solve the problem."
Jingi moved away from Yukito as he waved his hand. He is sure that he plans to go to Mitarai again to tell him that Yukito will also be working.
Looking at that back, Yukito said:
"How often do such quips come to you so easily?"
He muttered that with a half-astonished, half-impressed face.
Like the exterior, the interior of the Izakaya "Usagi" was very simple. It consists of four long tables that seat between six and eight people, and seating at the counter that seats about seven people.
"Then, it's a job I'll be in charge of."
Mitarai in an apron opened his mouth. At the end of his line of sight, he saw the figures of Jingi and Yukito, who are also wearing aprons. They were having a pre-opening meeting in the kitchen, across the counter.
"My duty is to help cook and drink. Yukito-kun, I will ask you to attend to the customers."
"Eh?"
Jingi slightly raised his hand while yawning.
"Hahaha!"
Yukito straightened his back... no, he stiffened and answered.
"You're very nervous. He's funny."
Jingi happily patted Yukito's tense back. Usually, at times like this, the disciple shakes off the hand of the teacher upset with him.
"...I'm nervous. It's my first time serving customers, so I wonder if I can do it right."
It's the first part-time job of his life and it doesn't seem to be a problem in the hospitality industry. It seemed that his face was turning pale.
"Silly. No one is waiting for you."
"That's right!"
Yukito's face became visibly hurt by the words Jingi uttered. Perhaps it was strange for Yukito to keep changing his expression like that.
"It's your first time, so it's not going to work out anyway. You make a lot of mistakes and you get really embarrassed."
"Does that mean failing and being embarrassed is also training?"
Yukito asked anxiously. Despite his low level of socialization experience, he tried to understand the true meaning of his words. He believed sanely.
But...
"No, I just want to see you. It seems interesting to see you nervous."
"This person is a devil."
Yukito was horrified by his response as he laughed.
Reality and Sagawa Jingi are generally not good.
"It's almost time to open. Jingi, break it up into small appetizer bowls of potato salad."
"What I hate the most is that kind of detailed work."
Responding to the merchant's instructions, Jingi went to the shelf to grab a small bowl, even as he grumbled. At the same time, Mitarai approached Yukito.
"Don't worry, Yukito-kun. When the time comes, Jingi will follow up."
"Jingi-san is a follower?"
Yukito's eyes were half suspicious. Since there was an exchange before, it seems that the trust is buried rather than in the ground.
"The guy who comes to the store as a customer is the worst kind of person who doesn't pay the bill for his drinking habit. But as a staff member who works with him, there is no one more trustworthy than him."
After saying that with a smile, Mitarai tapped Yukito on the shoulder.
"Then please bring the noren. The shop is open."
"Oh, yes."
Yukito left the kitchen and picked up the noren placed near the restaurant's entrance.
However, he didn't go out to the store as he was and silently looked back over his shoulder. He could see the kitchen over the counter. Next to Mitarai, who was working with a straight face, Jingi was about to yawn.
"Reliable, huh."
Yukito shook his head as if to say that it was impossible and left the store.
And when the night approached Ninoshima, opened "Usagi".
As soon as he opened the shop, customers came for the May Rain ceremony. There are already two groups at the table and three seats at the counter. Izakaya "Usagi" seems to be quite popular, even if you subtract the fact that there aren't many stores on the island.
"W-Welcome!"
Yukito greeted the new group of elders with an awkward yet smiling face. He has come into contact with various groups so far. It's actually easier to have a conversation with a customer than it is to exchange words with someone you meet for the first time in your daily life.
(I think I'll try to work as a waiter when I start high school.), Yukito thought.
Yukito's tension eased as his thought flickered.
But...
"Ah! There's a cute girl I haven't seen before! Yashiki-chan, are you free today?"
"Uh, well, it's a family wedding. So instead..."
"Look, this kid! He's the one staying with Momoko-chan."
"Ah, so you are Yanagi-sensei's son who returned from the mainland!"
"I am indebted to Yanagi-sensei in many ways!"
"Well, that's correct. So, the order is..."
"At your age, Yanagi-sensei was a sweet boy!"
"That's right! Young Inou always had a pale face when he was influenced! I can't believe he's the mayor now!"
"Um... the order..."
Yukito was there with a worried face along with the elders who recalled their memories. To be able to get into this quick conversation, that's exactly what is missing in his training right now.
"Don't be silly, order fast and contribute to sales! This is not the front porch next door!"
A voice that sounds like a person interrupting a sports game came flying in from the kitchen. The source is Jingi with a mischievous smile on his face.
"Haha, what's up? Are you doing the dishes today to pay the bills?"
"Azuki-chan, you should use him as much as possible!"
The old return a great mockery to the truth. They then turned to Yukito again.
"I'm sorry I kept you waiting. So, can I place an order?"
"Yes."
Yukito filled out the handwritten sheets with the names of the sake and the dishes that were finally ordered.
(I wonder if he helped me.), Yukito thought.
Yukito looked towards the kitchen as he took orders. The person who could have helped him was laughing open-mouthed with the customers sitting at the counter. It seems that Jingi also frequents this shop frequently, so if he sees a regular customer, he can always say hello like this.
(By chance? But...), Yukito thought.
Still, that didn't change the fact that he wanted to do it. However, since there was a high probability that he would get involved in a problematic way if he said it directly, Yukito decided to thank him in his heart.
"Here's the order. Two draft beers, one highball, one oolong highball, one edamame, one sashimi of the day, one bowl of yakitori sauce, one salt, one thick omelet, and one or more specialty salads."
About an hour had passed since the business opened, and Yukito and the Izakaya lounge staff were already following the board. They do not hesitate to take customer orders and communicate the content to the two people in the kitchen.
"Ok."
Mitarai nodded in response to Yukito, and immediately called the person in charge of drinks, "Jingi", who was about to start making alcoholic drinks.
"Help me cook. I'll make the yakitori, so make the sashimi, salad, and tamagoyaki."
"Huh? Do I somehow have more stuff than you?"
Despite the dissatisfied voice, Mitarai brilliantly ignored him. He then called Yukito over the counter from the kitchen.
"I'd like to order a drink from you. Please bring the green soybeans as well."
"I'll do Jingi-san's job!"
A kitchen that cannot be said to be big, if it hadn't been for such a place, Yukito would have inadvertently withdrawn. Of course, he was happy to be entrusted with a new job.
However, this is the first part-time job for Yukito. It cannot be avoided that anxiety prevails over happiness.
"It's okay because the menu isn't that difficult. The recipe is written in the notebook on the back shelf. It's something like a manual I wrote when I moved into the mansion."
"Yes."
As he answered, Yukito headed towards the shelf at the back of the kitchen pointed out by Mitarai. The target notebook was in the drawer, which was mainly used to store tableware.
"So, I wonder if I can..."
Yukito wondered with a stiff expression. So...
"Take it easy, easy."
At the cutting board, Jingi smiled as she lightly sliced through the colorful vegetables. He looks like he's making a special salad himself right now.
"Customers here don't mind if they get drunk. They don't know the taste of sake anyway."
"I can hear you!"
Laughing protests rang out from the audience in response to the open and honest comments.
Seeing such a light-hearted exchange, Yukito laughed as they called out to him saying "Hahaha...". He made him feel a little better.
(Let's try for now.), Yukito thought.
Yukito made up his mind and began to move.
The first thing Yukito started was a beer that required the least amount of processing.
Pouring beer from a beer mug into a pre-chilled mug. Simple as that.
However, even if it is simple when you write it, there are many things that do not turn out as expected when you try it. And apparently, pouring beer, for Yukito was one of those.
"I ended up with nothing but bubbles..."
Looking at the mug, which clearly had too much white area, Yukito's face darkened.
He was aiming for the golden ratio of 3 for bubbles and 7 for liquid, which he saw in movies and dramas, but ended up with something with the opposite ratio.
"That's strange... I followed the manual..."
Yukito looked at the notebook. There are instructions and illustrations on how to pour beer. Whether it was made by Mitarai or added by the mansion is unknown, but it is a cute round design.
"Ah. Was the angle supposed to be more?"
Yukito found the words "The angle at which the cup is tilted is the point" taped to the side of the illustration. Then, using the experiences of the predecessors as inspiration, he tried again.
"Ok, nice feeling."
A beer with a beautiful contrast between white and gold was born. Yukito satisfactorily lifted his mouth and poured a second glass of beer.
"Next is Oolong High."
Right next to the beer page, there was an entry for shochu high, so Yukito happened to work at oolong high.
He puts some ice in a chilled glass and adds an appropriate amount of shochu. From the attached illustration, it seems like the trick is to give it a slight stir once in there to make it delicious. Then he adds the oolong tea and mix it up so the whole thing feels familiar and complete.
(Maybe this is the right one.), Yukito thought.
Having finished preparing the three drinks that had already been ordered, Yukito's heart was beginning to relax a bit. But...
"Eh? Bubbles..."
He realized it when he took out the glass of whiskey. The foam of the first beer burst and the balance that seemed to be the golden ratio was lost.
"Uh, um... what should I do in this situation?"
Yukito flipped through the pages of the notebook quickly. However, while there are tips and tricks on how to create a drink menu, there's no way to fill in the gaps.
Also, by doing so, the foam area of not only the first beer but also the second beer became suspect.
"Sorry! Do you have the beer yet?"
As if to add another punch, a demanding voice rose from the audience.
(I have to do something... I have to do something soon... Quick, quick, quick...), Yukito thought.
Yukito desperately tried to find a solution. However, the more he hurried, the duller and heavier his thought became. It's a vicious circle to the point of being splendid.
"What the hell are you doing alone?"
"Cold?!"
Suddenly, a cold and stinging sensation hit the back of his neck. Then, his reduced field of vision suddenly widened and he noticed that there was a familiar person next to him.
"J-Jingi-san?"
"Don't serve beer while looking like it's the end of the world. I told you take it easy, take it easy."
With a fearless smile, Jingi tossed rock ice into the sink. It seems that this has alienated Yukito from his own world.
"Are you okay with cooking?"
"Ok, it was nothing, I was too efficient and I have free time."
While joking, Jingi looked at the area where Yukito was working. After a while, he made a guessing face with "Hmm.".
"Prepare the edamame for now. Then refill the beer."
"So, this foamy beer is..."
"I'll take care of that. Look, the guests are waiting. Hurry up."
"Yes."
Yukito nodded, backed by the momentum of his dedication. The boy's face was much brighter than when he was alone and desperate.
Yukito ran to the refrigerator and took out a container containing edamame. The already boiled yellow-green pods were then transferred to a bamboo strainer for individual servings.
"Edamame is fine. After that, beer..."
Yukito muttered as he moved his hand away.
Jingi, who was looking at him sideways, said with a small smile, "Didn't you learn the word carefree in school?" But he's not just looking at the boy at work, his hand is in constant motion.
He poured ice into a glass, add whiskey and mix with soda. He inserted a mixer to finish, but the number of times he mixed is extremely small. This is to prevent carbonic acid from escaping.
"Eh..."
Yukito was involuntarily fascinated by the flowing tricks.
"Don't be blown away, get it to the customer quickly. You'll run out of bubbles again."
Was much. He placed the finished highball on the worktable. The sound made Yukito come to his senses. He had two freshly refilled beers in his hands and was playing refreshing music.
"I'm coming!"
Yukito ran towards the audience.
After that, going back and forth to the kitchen several times, he was finally able to offer all the drink menus.
"All drinks are gone."
When Yukito returned to the kitchen, the food was placed on the work table that had been handling alcohol until just now. A colorful salad and white sashimi that makes you feel fresh and elastic. They both look very delicious.
"I can cook. Please take that."
The tamagoyaki, the aroma of dashi soup rising along with the steam, was placed on a new square flat plate, and Jingi looked to Yukito.
"Oh, yes."
Yukito took the plate of food and spoke to him in a low voice.
"Thanks for that earlier. It was helpful."
He was embarrassed, so he tended to look away a bit instead of looking at him squarely. However, there was no reaction from Jingi.
"Jingi-san?"
Thinking that he hadn't heard, Yukito looks at Jingi again. So...
"Glup, glup, glup...!"
"Hey..."
Yukito widened his eyes and was surprised at what happened. That was because the sage in front of him was crouching on the spot and holding a mug of beer.
"You're crazy, Jingi-san...! You're at work...!"

Howdy!
Is it alright if we get to see Beelzebub's Yandere Profile?
I'm so curious, especially when I never really thought of him as a Yandere from his lax attitude until the Queen of Jealousy card where there was something that enhanced his already present feelings of jealousy to his brothers.
If you don't want to that's okay, have an amazing day!!
Of course, my precious anon! I had to look up the Queen of Jealousy card and man is that just chock full of yandere potential.
Also, let's be real, Belphie would probably think it was hilarious that his soft-spoken brother kidnapped you in their shared room.
WARNINGS: yandere themes
Tumblr media
Aware, Delusional, or Denialistic?
Is he aware of what he is doing or is he delusional/in denial?
Beelzebub is mostly in denial. He doesn’t want to feel that burning jealousy in his heart when you spend time with his brothers. It’s easier to pretend like you mean nothing special to him- to pretend that he’s not more interested in you than food.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Obsessive or Possessive?
Does he care more about you or about owning you?
Beelzebub is a sweetheart. He cares more about you than anything and, while he gets jealous, he doesn’t care about owning you.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Behavior Analysis:
How does he generally behave around you?
Beelzebub acts normal, to be honest. He shoves down the jealousy and, while he’s a little sweeter to you than his brothers, he doesn’t show many signs of being infatuated.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Utilize or Avoid kidnapping?
Does he prefer kidnapping you or does he prefer finding other methods to obtain you?
Beelzebub would rather you be his girlfriend, but the jealousy he feels makes him want to hide you away from everyone else. He could definitely end up kidnapping you- keeping you in his room so that only him and good old Belphie know where you are.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spiral Analysis:
Does he spiral out of control quickly or is he able to hold on to his humanity for a long time before he snaps?
Beelzebub spirals, but slowly, with more and more burning jealousy. There’s not really a snap as there is a seething feeling taking hold of him the longer you spend time with the others.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Restrain, Threaten, or Barricade?
Does he resort to restraining you, threatening you, or locking down the building/room to keep you kidnapped?
Beelzebub would probably keep you in his closet. He’d have to tie you up or use some sort of magic to keep you in there and keep you quiet during room inspections.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Escape Attempt Analysis:
How he would react to a successful or failed escape attempt.
Beelzebub would be heartbroken. He had finally put his feelings on the line, been open and honest with you, and you betrayed that trust. He may even go demon form on you from anger.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Manipulate or Overpower?
How easy would it be to overpower or manipulate him in order to escape?
Overpowering a demon is impossible for you. Manipulating is possible, but Beelzebub would force you to make promises. Promises to stay away from the others, to be only with him, to give him food, etc. And he’ll make sure you uphold your end of the deal.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lenient or Strict?
How long is the chain (metaphorical or not) that he keeps you on?
Beelzebub doesn’t want you spending time with his brothers, so the chain he keeps you on is very short.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rule and Punishment Analysis:
What kind of rules he has and what punishments you receive for breaking them.
Beelzebub just doesn’t want you talking to others. He gets very possessive, digging his nails into your shoulder and pulling you away from your conversations.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rival Elimination Analysis:
How he deals with rivals and potential elimination methods.
Beelzebub would never harm his brothers and he’s too sweet to harm anyone else too. His focus remains on you- on keeping you away from his rivals.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anger Analysis:
How easily he angers, how that anger looks, and how to calm him down.
Beelzebub is slow to anger and usually, it just means a disapproving frown. Push him far enough, though, and he can go demon form. Not that he’d hurt you.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Above, Beneath, or Equal?
How does he view you: as something to worship, to own, or just as another human being?
Beelzebub doesn’t exactly worship you, although he takes very good care of you and loves you. But he sees you as his equal most of the time- someone to care for like a husband would his wife.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Requite or Reject?
How does he react to you accepting or rejecting his love?
Beelzebub would be shocked if you accepted him. He’d immediately start making demands that you only spend time with him. But he’d share his food with you!
Rejection is what he expected anyway, so he’s not exactly surprised.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Determination Analysis:
The level of determination to get you to requite or accept his feelings.Beelzebub doesn’t need your acceptance, he just needs you. Would it be great if you accepted? Of course! But if you don’t, then he’ll win you over. With either food or stockholm syndrome.
