#filch vs voldemort
Text
Muggleborn video game modders making hogwarts packs with inside jokes for each other to enjoy.
Cooking Mama but it’s Severus Snape and he teaches you how to “brew fame, put a stopper to death, bottle luck” and even more nonsensical claims. He doesn’t give outright praise but you’ll see “adequate” or “acceptable” and his face will be less pinched.
Pokémon but it’s Hagrid and he RAMBLES. There’s a second pack that emphasizes his accent.
Minecraft with magic creature mobs and enderman is Quirrel.
Slenderman but it’s Voldemort and you’re in the Forbidden Forest and the rest of the Hogwarts grounds. There is also a pack with McGonagall as slenderman which is somehow infinitely more scary because they spent so much time and effort into her expressions.
FNAF but it’s the prefects/professors and Filch. They randomly change who you get each night.
There’s a Stardew Valley mod pack with all the professors and a secret second pack where they’re all Severus except one of them is actually Snape and the rest are polyjuiced as Snape. You can’t romance anybody unless you expose the fakes.
Plants vs. Zombies but it’s Sprouts greenhouses and the zombies are NEWTS students.
The SIMS packs are the craziest though. No one talks about the SIMS packs, but if you want access, just ask around and someone will get you a link.

Tom Marvolo Riddle was an innocuous twelve year old Slytherin who just wanted to make friends and be a wizard of importance. He can talk to snakes and loves Quidditch. He's best friends with Draco Malfoy, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and, occasionally, the Boy-Who-Lived, Neville Longbottom.
Harry James Potter is a Dark Lord in the making. A Slytherin to challenge the world and bring wizard-kind back to the greatness and purity it used to be before soft sorcerers like Albus Dumbledore came along to ruin everything. A time before Muggle-borns and Muggles bred with purebloods. An age the great Salazar Slytherin would be proud of.
Wait... Which boy is the Heir of Slytherin again? Something's wrong here. Someone check that diary immediately! Quick, before the Bas--!

Snape’s Schedule — Around 100 hours of work per week (?)
I am only sharing this, I am not the one who made the essay.
This is called Fanon vs Canon by White Hound. It discusses Snape a lot.
That’s where they calculate that Snape works around 100 hours per week for years—a little less before he was Head of House, a little more as he started to work against Voldy, gave detentions or gave Occlumency lessons to Harry.
Tumblr media
They mostly have to round off (and even if you take fanwikia’s reports on Potions classes as the only source you can’t really know everything because Harry doesn’t say clearly what are all of his courses), but that’s pretty telling of Snape.
100 hours/week—it’s 3 times too much for a normal person.
Plus he had to
play spy to Voldemort,
teach Harry Occlumency,
watch intensely over the kids (Harry in PS and Draco in HBP mainly) when they’re in special danger,
he has his duties as a member of the Order (reports),
he patrolls the night (at least in 1st year),
he’s able to run from the dungeons to the 5th floor in around 5 minutes the moment he hears a scream like someone who’s being tortured and nobody else but him, Filch and fake!Moody come,*
and surely more.
Severus Snape is OVERWORKED and must be on the verge of exhaustion and burn-out. Of course he’s not feeling well. Of course teachers are shitty in Hogwarts, and not only is he only an example (other teachers are worse), but before complaining about his work, maybe we should wonder if complaints count when working 3 times too much is not even legal in the first place.
By the way, I’m also sharing this here, if people want to search for the exact quotes and reference (I’m particularly thinking of @potter-n-potions) but White Hound says that McGonagall forced Hermione, a cat-lover, to Vanish kittens as punishment, which equals to kill them.
Not counting how, by their words (and I think it’s during the exams at the end of PS or CoS), they transfigure mice into pincushions and pierce them with pins to check if they’ve been well transfigured or not—ie they stick pins in immobilized & half-Transfigured mice while they can still feel the pain to check if they’re responding or not.
Enjoy, @snapeaddict...
EDIT: *apparently I was mistaken, Snape does not run up the stairs when he hears the egg since the egg fell right at the entrance of the dungeons or something.
**However, I also forgot to mention that Snape had to ensure Lupin’s Defense classes as well when he was sick from lycanthropy in PoA (+ essays he was ready to correct), AND brew Wolfsbane, a highly complicated potion (that no doubt take a long time to brew) which Snape managed to brew perfectly for every month.

"Good" Guy who does bad things can genuinely provide for an interesting character+ dynamic of the character as well as story plot provided if they are called out for that shit AND get development for doing it (for example Glimmer)
I think I laid out by beef with the trope pretty clearly.
Also Glimmer is framed as being in the wrong by both the narrative and her friends’ reactions. She’s a teenage queen at her wit’s end being manipulated by her best friend’s abuser but she can’t see an alternative. Glimmer is flawed.
Dumbledore, however, is an adult who willfully perpetuates gross child neglect and abuse. We get the clearest look at this with Harry’s Situation, which Harry was put in by Dumbledore willfully. Oh and the blood wards are a sham. The twin cores did more. Are you a wizard or not, Voldemort? Stop touching him and use your cronies’ wands...which Voldemort eventually did. And he definitely didn’t lift a finger to protect the rest of the student population, but intentionally placed it all on a child’s shoulders and made sure to gaslight said kid at the end of every year when Harry was at his most vulnerable.
But it’s not just Harry—Tom Riddle’s an orphan that Dumbledore felt the need to terrorize to “teach him a lesson” instead of TRYING to get this kid some stability; Severus Snape was also willfully ignored and left to the mercy of his yearmates simply for “looking too much like Tom superficially with a similar background”. Sirius Black came from a rich family but was also troubled, but since he was in Darling Gryffindor he was treated permissively; yet there isn’t even an effort to investigate and hold a trial before he’s tossed to the dementors for a decade. Then when he escapes (to seek revenge and a side of protect Harry), he’s kept in what’s not only a hovel and inside for 24/7/365, it’s also the place of Sirius’s abuse. (Hell for that matter so is Hogwarts for Snape, and the guy’s clearly not a healthy temperament for students, anyway.) Filch, Hagrid, and Remus are all also kept indepted to Dumbledore...because stale crumbs or none.
So in text Dumbledore is an asshole, not flawed.
But it’s his author describing him as “the goodest good” on top of it all—when his lines are literally emotionally abusive and he did, actually, have the clout and resources to do SOMETHING before and after Harry’s 5th Year. (And even then he could make things go his way at least a little. Imagine what he could’ve done if he’d actually tried and were kind...instead of choosing a child-now-man with which to play Sherlock vs Moriarty.)
TL;DR:
It’s not whether a character’s always a paragon of kindness and good decisions. It’s how their poor decisions and outright cruelty are framed—in universe and text, by other characters and their society, by the content creators.
Greek Heroes and the pantheon of gods are basically all assholes. But for the Heroes they’re not supposed to be good—they’re an exploration of human hubris. The gods are then personified abstract ideas (like Athena and Ares being different aspects of warfare) or literal forces of nature (like Poisidon as the ruthless major ocean god, or Demeter and Persephone and Hades being why the seasons change instead of the land always being warm and fertile.)

Stuff I write- Harry Potter
I am not required to explain myself, but I came up with most of these before JKR started being ridiculous and that's not going to stop me from finishing a story. ADHD might, but not that.
Had Enough
Wolf wakes up in the body of one Harry Potter and decides a lot of the way things are won't stand.
Name Change
Harry Potter grew up with a different name, courtesy of him wandering off and living with someone else for the first few months of his life. The Dursleys treat him less like an obligation and more like a servant because of this.
Slumdog Millionaire
Harry does chores for his neighbors and in exchange, they buy him things and teach him about the world and how to deal with people. He's a lot more adjusted and prepared for Hogwarts as a result.
A Twin in the Mix
Harry has a twin. Both of them grew up in the Muggle world, neither of them has a scar. No one knows which one Voldemort went for first.
Dungeon Crawler
AU where "Potsions Master is less like "Chemistry Teacher" more like "Chemist"
Someone else is the Potions teacher but Snape is still a spy. He takes a Filch-like role and helps Madam Pomfrey keep her cuboard stocked. When Things Start Happening at Hogwarts, he has a bit more freedom to investigate.
Eversharp
Dumbledore is less of a politician and more of a teacher with a vested interest in his students. Safety takes priority when the Philosopher's Stone needs a new home, and he is more than willing to prove how he won against Voldemort.
Firstborn
Drabble surrounding Ginny's first time giving birth and the events after.
Follow Me Down
First-years get advisors to help them adjust to life at Hogwarts. Magic-raised students find them redundant, but the ones who grew up without magic get to learn everything they can stomach about Hogwarts and the Magical World as a whole.
Guardians
In a world where ghosts are proven to be real, they aren't just attached to Hogwarts. Lilly and James Potter watch their son grow up in a world where he is the only one able to see or speak to them.
Molly Weasley's PTSD vs The Things Her Kids Get Wrapped Up In: Fight! (Working Title)
Molly Weasley might be overprotective, but she was one of a handful of people who knew that the war wasn't over. This takes a look at why she is so overprotective and how that may help her kids in the future. Canon-Adjascent to Non-Compliant.
Most Convenient Protection
Snape is the reason Harry is an orphan. Full-stop. Because he was the one to tell Voldemort about the prophecy Trelawney delivered. But what if Voldemort decided to shoot the messenger? Well, Trelawney would have to go underground of course. And Snape would be going with her if Dumbledore has anything to say about it.
New Friends
Harry keeps up with Ginny after he meets her at the Burrow and takes more notice when something is wrong.
Oath
There are certain truths that have always been. James and Sirius would never betray each other. Not even under threat of death. So how did Sirius Black end up in Azkaban? One Auror is going to find out.
On Not Kicking Daisies
Drabble about how Ginny keeps plants and Harry is wary around them.
In Defense Of An Abused Orphan
Snape takes one look at Harry Potter's home life after literally decades of ignoring it and goes ballistic. Because why is The Boy Who Lived, the boy who is supposed to be living the high life with some random Magical couple who got the honor of adopting him, slumming it in Non-Magical England with the woman who would sooner spit on him if he were on fire???
Wolfsbane
When the author of these stories was younger by quite a lot, they wrote a story where Lupin's wolf is drawn to Hermione. Platonically, not in a romantic way, because ew, but drawn nonetheless.

Grace Martin would say that she has survived her years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry fairly well so far. Being in her last year, she spends a lot of time in the library to focus on her upcoming exams. However, tensions are emerging within the walls of Hogwarts as students seem to vanish mysteriously - specifically, pure-blood students. As a half-blood, this doesn't necessarily trouble her personally until the day that she witnesses the abduction of none other than Draco Malfoy, 4th year Slytherin and sole heir to his name. On top of that, the Triwizard Tournament is set to take place, so the suspect list is long. Grace reluctantly starts working together with Draco's father and Hogwarts governor Lucius Malfoy, who is keen on finding his lost son. The tension between them is strong at first, but soon they discover that they are not so different after all. What follows is a time filled with temptation, forbidden affairs and dangerous criminals... ---------------------------------- - Info: Lucius is still a Hogwarts gov

Belladonna Black and the Book of Necromancy
by BelladonnaCarinaBlack
Thirteen years after The Battle of Hogwarts, two wizarding children are about to embark on their own adventure. They both have been lied to their entire lives. Before their first year is over, secrets will be revealed, friendships will be tested, and death itself will never be the same. Belladonna Black has known about magic her entire life, but she has never seen a game of Quidditch, never been to Diagon Alley, and never even left Malfoy Manor. Her best friends Scorpius Malfoy and Catherine Goyle, have always been free to do these things, with one condition: they must never mention Belladonna to the outside world. James Potter has grown up on the fringes of the wizarding world. He does not know why whispers always follow his family whenever they venture into public, perhaps it is because his mother is a former professional Quidditch player, and his father is Head of the Auror Department. What causes the whispers? Each went to Hogwarts looking for answers, but what they find is more than they bargained for. Because they are not the only people at Hogwarts looking for answers. And some questions should not even be asked, for the answers can do more than reveal the past, some answers can bring it back to life.
