I wish more people understood that Sega / Sonic Team carefully scrutinizes and approves every single issue of the IDW comics before they get printed and release, down to characters' facial expressions.
This isn't like the wild west of the 90s where people like Penders were allowed to do whatever they wanted. Scripts and storyboards are sent to Sega for approval multiple times for every issue. And the IDW team has to make the requested changes before it can print. One example that has been specifically mentioned was when Amy hugged Sonic in the "Chao Races and Badnik Bases" arc. Evan originally drew a little blush on Sonic's cheeks. Sega said "no" because Sonic doesn't show that much vulnerable emotion, and so Evan had to revise the panel to remove the blush. The oversight is that finite. Absolutely NOTHING gets put in the IDW comics that is against Sega or Sonic Team's ideas for their characters and brands. Like it or hate it, but that's simple fact.
So when you hear, "Sega wants to bring the comics and games (and potentially the shows) under the same canon umbrella" — yeah, it makes sense! Because while Sonic Team might not be crafting the comics themselves, they ARE overseeing their creation and are approving every story beat and facial expression contained within. They know exactly what is happening in the comics, are actively working to keep them in line with the current vision for the Sonic brand, etc. If they're working to keep them in line with their current vision for the games anyway, why NOT tie them all together? Especially when the comics have helped bring a new generation of kids to the franchise (similarly to how the movies did) while also being compliant with the games (unlike the movies). It just makes sense.
I understand that people who are perhaps more used to stories about what the Archie comics were like in the 90s might have reservations. But for good or for ill, the IDW comics are a completely different beast, despite having a lot of the same crew. I'm not saying Sega are overbearing evil overlords who don't let the IDW team have any fun (personally I think it's clear the team has a lot of fun working on the comics), because hell, they let a zombie pandemic arc happen. But I am saying that nothing that happens in the comics happens without Sega's express approval, right down to whether Sonic is allowed to blush when Amy hugs him or not. You still don't have to like the comics, everyone has different tastes and that's cool. But just know that the comics are Sega-approved panel by panel, so if you have an issue, take it up with them. Ultimately, they're the ones who get final say.

Since I’m into both Candace and Twisted Wonderland right now, I imagined Candace in Yuu's position and drew this. (More on that later.)
I used this image to experiment with thinner lines(1px) and have decided to never do it again. I like thinker lines, thank you. I like her hair color a lot and I think Grim’s eyes are cute.

I just so love the mental image of Walter and Jonathan getting into a full scale divorce hearing argument while Flynn is just passed out on the ground behind them

the beginning of vesperia will always be hilarious to me bc it's like
yuri goes off planning to get the blastia back blah blah blah
finds out estelle is looking for flynn
you'd swear he eyes lit up like a child opening their favorite birthday present bc from that point on he never shuts up about flynn ever again and frankly probably does not want to
and as far as i am concerned takes the opportunity of estelle looking for him to go find him too like he's using it as an excuse to go find and be around him
bc im sorry when he finds flynn he's like
"i've been looking all over for you"
um??? sorry what??? wasn't estelle looking for flynn and yuri just happened to be going in the same direction anyway so they stuck together? wasn't estelle looking for flynn to warn him and yuri had other business that had no relation whatsoever to flynn? wasn't estelle looking for flynn and it just happened to be a coinkydink that yuri was along for the ride while he handled his own business?
"i've been looking all over for you" NAH SLIP OF THE TONGUE NO TAKE BACKS YOU JUST WANTED TO BE WITH HIM AND FOUND A NICE EXCUSE TO DO IT 'CAUSE YOU WEREN'T IN THE KNIGHTS ANYMORE
i could swear half of act 1 is just yuri like "estelle stop running around and getting distracted or being indecisive i wanna see flynn and im trying to be polite and not leave you behind at the same time"
like??? for all her worry and valid reasoning to go looking for him, yuri brings his ass up on the regular like who are you trying to motivate here im sure anyone else but you could be given a pep talk that does not include the name "flynn" zooming out of your mouth
'cause it sure as shit feels like yuri is more antsy about seeing him than estelle is
but also quite frankly it is adorable bc it just makes yuri seem like he's excited to talk abt flynn to someone. someone else who knows flynn? good, great, he can act like a giddy schoolgirl who found someone to talk to her crush abt. he'll pretend it's not that serious and conveniently forget to stop mentioning him when Literally Nobody Fucking Asked.
if i was playing vesperia for the first time you could have told me yuri was starry eyed for flynn within like the first half hour if not earlier and i would have believed you instantly
and considering what yuri is like, shut up it's adorable and i love that for him

Obviously, due to the whole "Doofenshmirtz ruled the world for several years" thing, Second Dimension Norman Osborn never had a chance to try to make an army of giant mutant spiders that ended up being radioactive but otherwise normal spiders (yes, that's why the radioactive spider was a thing in Candace's universe. Keep in mind Norman is a Doof-style evil scientist there), so there's no Spider-man variant there. This does not stop Candace-2 from getting involved in Spidey Stuff because the resistance still has access to the "Other-Otherdimensionator" that Heinz built for Doof-2, and have made a significantly improved version of the handheld version Phineas and Ferb made. She mostly just shrugs off the fact that Candace-1 (and anyone who isn't OWCA-associated) can't initially remember her.
Meanwhile, Doof-2 can't figure out how to make his own Otherdimensionator, or replicate most of Heinz's other Inators, despite "objectively" being the more competent of the two, much to his frustration.

Flynn: So what’s your gender and sexuality?
Dillon: What’s a gender?
Dr K in the background: What’s a sexuality?
Flynn: Uh
Ziggy: Dillon uses He/Him and Dr K uses She/Her, but you can use any pronouns really. As for sexuality, Dillon has never felt attracted to a women in his life and I’m still sure Dr K doesn’t know how romance works.
Dr K: You’re telling me people kiss because of feelings and not the social expectations of society??
Dillon: No, really. What’s a gender?

jumping off that timeloop post too. massacre route nanashi will be trying to reach a solution to get them out, he is pushing for success, for godhood--if THEY sit on the throne of god (something actually attainable in smti/v), then the time loop HAS to end. Someone on the throne of god can surely control time.
Anyways. Of course nanashis direction towards doing this is at the detriment of the rest of humanity. Flynn won't stand for it.
And so uh, theyre forced into a stalemate. Flynn destroys the world to reset them and to keep nanashi from the throne. And nanashi keeps pressing for the throne so he can control time.

I didn't really stop to read the page/panel of Sonic looking down at Surge and giving his long winded to her until now, and holy shit man, cut down on the dialog and those word bubbles. Not even in AoSTH's Sonic Sez segments was he that wordy- the closest thing coming to that being the Sexual Harassment one because you can't exactly actually show it. Even as far as comic book presentation goes it just looks sloppy and lazy. I know they're only given so many pages to work with, but they could have done it another way than just shoving all of it into one place.
I'm sorry but I'm rolling on the floor that you're comparing IDW Sonic to the Sonic Sez of AoSTH 😂 oh IDW Sonic would love to do long patronizing speeches to children
The funny thing is that he had the gall to say "I like to keep it simple" before vomiting all those words. No you don't, you logorrheic stand-in for the writer.
The contrast with SA2 is incredible. Shadow asked him "how in the world did you manage to do a Chaos Control with a fake Emerald when I thought I was the only one who could do it" and Sonic's response is pretty much "idk i'm just a dude ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" That's Sonic! That's what it means to keep it simple.
I'm personally more irritated by the composition of the whole panel, of Sonic looking down on Surge/the viewer with a smug smirk on his face and a confident pose as light shines all around him. It would have been perfect if we were following Surge's POV, but no. Plus, well, how self-absorbed, arrogant and dismissive he comes across. Amazing how much we can talk about one (1) panel, huh.

something I guess I’ve never really thought about with Uprising is the fact that Flynn is just out there, alive, during all of it. and I’d have to assume he at least heard about what was going on in Argon. did it give him any hope that Tron was alive or did he just assume it was a copycat with no connection to his friend? would he have even let himself have that hope? how hard was he hit by the uprising’s ultimate failure, knowing that even if he wanted to he couldn’t have helped?

I feel obligated to say Shawn Flynn vs Grant Cohen now. I'm in a fight mood.
Ok so Shaw just sounds like he’s scrappy and always in the mood to give you a piece of his mind (This is def cause he’s voiced by Jac but I digress). We don’t know a lot about him but considering he works in a ware house and makes dolls the guy has to have some muscle and strength so I’d say it’s not like Grants going against the hulk but Shawn seems like he’d be physically able to hold his own. Also he just seems ready for a fight seeing as he wanted a fucking cage match with Thomas over a like tool box or something. Though I get the impression he’s a lot more bite than bark as his words are rough but he never acts in it.
Grant sounds tired, gruff and annoyed and even makes shots at Joey for not having his shit together and making his life harder. Grant as shown by the handbook isn’t as passive as people make him out to be, a memo having him tell Joey to basically cut his shit if he wants to keep the studio. He’s also okay with playing dirty as he admitted in the memo to fudging number to make ends meet and I feel like all this would translate to a physical fight. The guy also like trashed his entire office and was able to write all over the walls, even high parts. You can say he used a chair or the room was small but during a mental break the last thing I’d be worried about is using a chair to scribble my manic writing around the room continuously. So I’d say he has the size advantage in this fight.
Shawn seems tired by most of the antics at the studio and is just trying to get by and Grant is actively loosing it if we follow what he did to his office. These two have never canonically interacted so I doubt anything personal would influence the fight either way.
I’d say Grant would win cause he’s looking for an excuse to hit someone. Shawn would probably piss him off making fun of his numbers and saying how easy he has it sitting at a desk all day and that just sets Grant off. I doubt the fight would start a different way as Grant just wants to do his thing and ain’t looking for more problems. Shawn isn’t gonna go down like a punk but I imagine he’s too busy shit talking while Grant is just trying to get him to shut up and like letting out all his nerd rage.
Grant wins with shiner and feeling a lot less pent up while Shawn goes home with one less tooth to run his mouth with.

random thought that came/returned to mind just now; in IDW during the metal virus; we never saw any of the D6 (or at least the ones who got thrown into the virus’d crowd- so everyone except Zazz and technically Zavok if I recall)- we never saw the D6 when they were fully turned zombot- only when they were starting to get infected and the virus growing on them (Zeena for example) has anyone,,, actually drawn any of them fully zombot’d? I thought of this forever ago when I first read through those parts, but never acted on it myself- I’d definitely like to give it a shot tho! time to add that to the [growing] list
