Bloodborne and the Souls series are like the video game equivalents of “how dare you hide this in the tags” but instead of side commentary, it’s the whole damn plot

#I fell down the Bloodborne rabbit hole last month by accident #via the wiki (which was an experience) #and that shit's fucking Fascinating #and then you play the game and it's just welcome to Fucked Upville #then a cockroach with a faceful of eyeballs called Mergolath the Vile Sneeper falls out of a clocktower and starts killing you #fifteen hours later if you activate the Key of Extinguishment in the Lock of Forgetfulness before you take on Dracmor the Loquacious #you find a note in game implying Mergolath is actually your best friend Aldwytch after he was turned into a hideous hellbeast by vile magick #like Bloodborne is all about contact between humans and Lovecraftian beings beyond our understanding #and attempts to 'ascend' to that level by becoming or actually interbreeding with them #and the whole world in it is centered around this evolution/ascension/birth/rebirth thing #to say nothing of the multiple worlds-within-worlds and everything else going on #and then almost none of that is expressed in actual in-game PLOT #let alone really allowed to emotionally impact the character #or impact the player in any way that interacts with the game #you just read the little notes and then go on the wiki and go 'wtf THAT'S who that was?!' but it means nothing #it FRUSTRATES me to no end #bloodborne #dark souls
