After everything.” It was more an assertion than a question. A fact that only hurt his pride even more and turnt his gaze into something dangerous. Yes, he was confident enough to take the blame from everyone, to be called whatever name they chose for him, but whenever it came from her or his brother? It was too much and only made him react with rage and worse provocations.

“Listen witch…” With a threatening glare he walked towards her, hand reaching for her face to cup her cheek tightly and control her eyes to look up at him. “Back from where I saved you, you might have had a sharp tongue due to the circumstances, but don’t you think you should show a little gratefulness for making your life so much better? Who was it who brought you here? Who was it who made it possible for you to marry a fucking king and tame a beast you would never have even seen without me? Maybe my only foolish act was bringing you here and taking you into my fucking bed. Should have stayed with the whores, not become a fool for you.”

Angrily he snapped his hand back with a frown, breathing heavily as he passed her to have his back on her when he reached for a goblet with wine to swallow it in one gulp. “Only a fool would call a man like me heroic. And I am no fool, you hear me?” And still he was exactly that. He was reckless, stubborn and definitely a fool when it came to love, how else could it happen that he falls for the woman who betrayed him the next second? Or so he thought in his head at least. “Go then. Go and find a fool who is exactly that. I’m sick of being played by you and your sharp cutting tongue.”

Human though she may currently look, Kisa is streaked with the blood and gore of the witches she had murdered; the evidence of the monster she truly was painting her in splashes of red. She doesn’t look to the girl, instead busting herself with the running water at the sink, washing her hands clean before reaching for a cloth to do the same for her face.

“I did what anybody would,” what should have been done for her.

There’s a flash of memory. The pit. The snakes. The pain and fear. The realisation that nobody was coming for her, that nobody would snatch her up from those woods and take her someplace safe. That her fate lay at the bottom of that hole and she couldn’t escape it.

Kisa doesn’t look over and she hopes her demeanour comes off as cold and matter-of-fact. The last thing she needs is this kid looking at her as some sort of saviour.

The Heart of the Saviour (11/12)

Summary: One night, in every corner of every magical realm, every boy aged nine to seventeen disappeared. Not one remained. That was when Pan made himself known to the realms, and from that night the eve of every boy’s ninth birthday meant their disappearance, until finally the realms demanded to know what he wanted to return their children to them. Pan told them he wanted the saviour, and while most realms were confused Snow and David knew what he meant and confessed the role their daughter was supposed to have played in breaking the curse. The realms voted and agreed to Pan’s terms, and Pan stopped taking the realms sons, holding the children he’d currently taken as insurance of their compliance.

For the next fifteen years Emma’s birthday wasn’t a celebration, it was another tick on the countdown clock to the end of her freedom. Not that she was ever free in the first place, but to save every male child in the United Realms including her younger brother, Leo… She understood that she had a job to do, and she would do her duty with her head held high. What she didn’t count on was the sparkling blue eyes of the man Pan sends to escort her to Neverland in time for her twenty-first birthday.

Notes: Mostly fluff! With a little bit of angst, but I promise it’s nothing really bad… it’s almost over, but I want to say a huge thank you for all the support, the comments, reblogs, kudos, and even the emoji reactions when I drop these in discord channels. It all means so much! A lot of loose ends get properly tied up in this chapter, but I do really enjoy the way everything has played out in this.

The next morning, Emma was standing next to her mother as they surveyed a large map of the kingdom, trying to decide on the best routes that would facilitate short chunks of travel that would allow them to continue to plan a wedding around it as well as places that would be able to accommodate them overnight. Killian and Emma would travel with Roland and Delilah, and Tink and Tiger Lily would join them to ensure that if Emma needed any advice about her magic she could have it.

“How about the Ironwells? They’ve always been welcoming when we’ve visited before,” Emma suggested.

“That’s a possibility, yes,” Snow agreed.

Emma stepped to one side of the map to make a note on the list of possibilities, the quill scratching against the surface of the parchment as she hummed softly to herself while she wrote.

“I don’t recognise that one,” Snow White said conversationally.

“Sorry, Mama?” Emma asked, looking up with a frown.

“That song,” she clarified.

“Oh, it’s a sea shanty. The crew taught it to us,” Emma supplied with a smile as her graze dropped back to the map.

There was an urgent knock on the door and it opened before Snow or Emma could say anything.

“Your Majesty, there’s been an incident, down in the dungeons. A child has managed to get into his cell!” Sneezy babbled as Grumpy and Bashful followed him into the room.

Snow froze and Emma, confused, looked between the dwarves and her mother.

“A child? How long have they been in there?”

“We don’t know, we were checking on him as usual, every few days, dropping off more food and water, and he was just… there…” Grumpy responded this time.

“Did you speak to him, ask who the child was?” Snow pressed urgently.

Bashful shook his head and Snow sighed frustratedly.

“That’s not all, sister,” Grumpy added, and there was an unnecessary pause for effect which had Emma rolling her eyes and Snow raising an impatient eyebrow. “He demanded to see the Saviour.”

Snow gasped in shock, the goblet she’d been holding slipping from her grip and landing on the stone floor with a crash.

Emma looked at her mother in shock, concerned at her reaction.

“Find Charming,” she commanded. Bashful and Sneezy started to move but then Snow spoke again, an afterthought but she seemed to be berating herself for not having said it initially. “And Captain Jones.”

“Mama, what’s going on?” she asked, turning to face her, concerned by the ashen complexion of her mother’s skin.

“When they get here,” she murmured, her voice quiet and shaky in a way Emma had never heard before.

It didn’t take long for the two men to be found, and they were both striding into the room with looks of concern on their faces as they each approached their True Loves to make sure they were well.

“He’s asked to see Emma,” Snow told David urgently.

“Grumpy said demanded, and who is he?” Emma asked again.

“We have the Dark One, in our dungeon. He’s been there since before you were born, but he predicted your birth and that you would be the saviour. He helped us defeat Regina. It was him that told us we had to let you go to Neverland, that letting you embrace your destiny in this way was your best chance,” David explained.

“You trusted the Dark One?” Killian snapped, clearly shocked.

“What do you know of it?” David replied, stepping round Snow to face him.

“I know he’s the reason my brother ended up back in Neverland when I sacrificed everything to save him. I know he abandoned his own son, who eventually ended up in Neverland and one of Pan’s inner circle!” Killian snapped back, incensed that two people who professed themselves to be so good would throw their lot in with a dark sorcerer like that.

“Killian,” Snow said shakily. “I told you there were things in my past I wasn’t proud of, but he’s been locked up since before Emma was born because of us.”

“Trust me, the Dark One isn’t anywhere he doesn’t want to be,” Killian told them darkly.

“And he wants to see me,” Emma said, her voice sounding hollow and weak as she turned away from the table.

She was still being manipulated, still beholden to people who saw a bigger picture than she did. She felt nauseated and angry in equal measure.

“Swan, he had a son… who was on Neverland,” Killian said gently as he stepped up behind her, his hand on the small of her back. “Maybe he wants to know if you saw him? Maybe you just need to pass on what the shadow said?” he suggested, trying to calm her down, trying to instil some confidence in her.

Emma swallowed and looked into his eyes, she could tell he hoped he was telling the truth. He wasn’t just trying to placate her. His fingers moved just a little on her back, calming and soothing her as she tried to collect herself.

She took a deep breath.

“Well I’m not going down into the dungeons without a cloak, it’s cold down there. And we’d better take something down for the child, he’s probably freezing,” she said, and Grumpy, who had come back with Killian and David, nodded and left to collect the things she’d requested.
