gotta love odo. guy has all the tragic backstory of a wattpad protagonist- abandoned at birth for a quest, grew up horrifically experimented on in a lab, solves mysteries with the coolest woman alive- and he just,,, refuses to be interesting (affectionate). he has made a commitment to being the beigest not-man alive, micromanaging a strip-mall, and obsessing over a small-time smuggler/line-cook/bartender, and we love him for it

The most underrated episode about Quark and Ofo is probably "His Way" in season 6 when Odo opens up to Quark about Kira and he says that Odo is cold rigid and remote.

Now that I think about it, Quark is the one person who truly gets Odo. All jokes and schemes aside, Quark is indeed the closest thing Odo has to a friend.

The episode also has a gem of a moment shared between Odo and Sisko. ❤️

You probably have been asked that already multiple times, but had Odo's development been planned from the start and also that his origin would be revealed?

Also, who came up with the Ferengi language spoken in "Little Green Men" and is it based on any (Earth or alien) language?

A1) No, Odo's backstory and development were things we came up with as we went along, mostly late in Season Two and during the break leading into Season Three. Our original intent was to hold the revelation that he was a Founder for a season or two and use it as a season ending cliffhanger, but Michael liked the idea so much he decided we should reveal it right away, so we could mine it for drama for the rest of the series.

A2) Ummm... I think that was mostly me? Or maybe it was Armin, Aron, and Max? I honestly don't remember 100% at this point. If it was me, it wouldn't have been based on anything in particular. When I do languages for aliens (or the goblins in my novels), I usually just spew out a bunch of stuff that sounds right to me. I don't spend a ton of time on it beyond trying to make it vaguely consistant. I'm no Tolkien. And because I do it fast, I can't really detail my thought process, or even be completely sure the Ferengi words were mine.

At various points of my life, I've learned Latin, German, Swedish, and Italian, and also bits of Cantonese, Japanese, and Spanish. Looking at Memory Alpha's "Ferengi Language" section, it reminds me most of Swedish and Cantonese, so if it was me, those are probably the languages I drew most from.

I have a vague memory of wanting the language to pattery and a little wet, like heavy raindrops. So it would match the aural landscape of Ferenginar, if that makes sense. Hence all the "op" sounds.

Quark!!! 😡🫥 *Pans over to Quark and he is shifty*

Like that old audio of the dude looking at the other dudes computer and finding mouse art of them kissing as the background or something. This is like that in my heart😘🥹. Also Odo's addressing Quark about it because it's making literally EVERYONE so sick and inundating sickbay too heavily. Also!! I made the executive decision that since when drawing hands nails is such an important part of properly communicating them, Odo doesn't know how to do them, that's Odo's only real issue, never learned to sculpt in school.
