#texas‚ addio #texas adios #italian cinema #spaghetti western #1966 #ferdinando baldi #franco rossetti #franco nero #alberto dell'acqua #josé suárez #luigi pistilli #hugo blanco #josé guardiola #elisa montés #livio lorenzon #silvana bacci #remo de angelis #giovanni ivan scratuglia #mario novelli #antón garcía abril #franco nero is in my bad books at this moment in time (fr‚ what the FUCK is he thinking casting k*vin s**cey in his new movie‚ and as a cop #investigating child abuse charges‚ absolute brain shit move) but it's hard to deny the holding power his early performances had. he's the #best thing about this early spaghetti western‚ a magnetic presence in an otherwise disposable bit of genre fare. outside of franco this is #too by the numbers to really impress; it's a weirdly neutered example of the form‚ full of hyper violent shootouts but almost bloodless in #execution. scenes of torture and execution about but always with discreet cutaways and careful editing to keep the real ugliness off screen #coming off a more recent viewing of later (70s) italian westerns‚ this is made to seem strangely sanitised: it's a bleak and ugly plot but #scrubbed up and without the excess of style and content which the end of the decade would bring. it is nice to see genre great Pistilli get #to play against type as a sensitive‚ intelligent lawyer who's fighting for peace not gain (this same year he'd be in more familiar #villainous form for Sergio Leone in For a Few Dollars More) (wait no the previous year) (66 he'd be doing The Good the Bad and the Ugly)#(apparently that shoot overlapped with this and Nero and Clint Eastwood hung out together on the Spanish locations)
