You’ve got to forgive yourself for being traumatized and needing to learn how to function again. 

Recovery isn’t always nightmares and depression, it’s forgetting to eat, being scared of what others might see as completely normal things, it’s getting random panic attacks, not knowing how to take care of yourself, not knowing how to live like an adult, even if you’re twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, of feeling like you’re failing to function in a world where everyone seems to have their shit together. 

If you need help, ask for it. Go to forums and ask for advice. Take advantage of community resources. Buy pre-sliced veggies and fruits, eat instant meals if you can’t cook for yourself today. Hire someone. Ask a neighbor for a favor. Buy any item you think might make life easier, even if you feel like you aren’t ‘disabled’ enough to have it. 

Some of the depression posts (ie open your windows, take a shower, go outside, call a friend) are really helpful but they’re not always enough. I’ve found advice for spoonies, people with chronic pain or other disabilities have the best tips because they know what it’s like to be bedridden, out of energy, stuck in a brain fog. 

You may never return back to the energy you had when you were younger and you might always need to use crutches to help you through life. It’s the same with medication. 

Trauma is a real thing that happens to you, it physically alters your brain and it’s alright to have lasting scars. 

You’re not broken, your life is not over and you can still be happy. 

It’s not your fault.

“Oh, did you have to bring your knife?”

Isaac gave his brother a flat look. “You brought yours.”

“A pocketknife used for camping and other related activities is far different than a switchblade that I know you’ve used for...non-camping-related activities, Isaac!” David pointed out. “Besides, you know if his mother sees you with that, she’ll be a lot less inclined to let him spend the day with us.”

With an annoyed sigh, Isaac flipped the blade back into the knife and tucked it into his pocket. “Just making sure, you both know he’s not a little kid anymore, right? He’s not gonna...I don’t know, faint at the sight of a sharpened blade, or whatever.”

“I’m aware of that!” David said, expression falling for a moment. “Even if it’s so hard to imagine. It feels like only yesterday we were meeting that soft, little bundle of fur for the first time in the hospital!”

“Psh, yeah, how’d’you think my old ass is feeling over here?” Isaac asked, before he reached over to pull the other man into a headlock. “I remember when I was meeting this bundle of fur for the first time in the hospital!”

David laughed and pushed him back. “Hey, come on now, you’re barely older than I am!” 

“I still remember!”

With another laugh, David straightened himself out. “Well, regardless, we should probably stop chatting for now and actually get to the front door. Otherwise we won’t get to actually see the grown-up bundle of fur we both met in the hospital!”

“Eh, with all the kids in the house, they’re bound to have noticed we were here by this point,” Isaac pointed out in return. “And if they haven’t...well, what’s the rush?”

They came to a stop in front of the door, and Isaac leaned against the side of the house. “Not really in much of a mood to have Jaune’s folks chew our ear off about how little we visit the squirt anymore,” he said. “I mean, it’s not like we don’t have jobs or lives of our own or anything like that. Nah, we just refuse to visit simply because we hate him. That’s the logical conclusion, right?”

And now it was David’s turn to give his brother a flat look. “While I don’t disagree with you about not preferring to hear a lecture about how we could stand to visit our brother a little more, I can understand her point of view about us not setting aside enough time for our visits.”

“Yeah, well, unless you wanna spill the beans about my line of work, she’s gonna have to deal with it.”

David gave him another Look, before pressing his finger to the doorbell. “Be nice, please. It won’t be for long, and afterwards, we’ll get to spend all day with Jaune! Won’t that be fun?”

“I’ll be on my best behavior.”

Good and out-of-context lines

What’s a line that you’re tremendously proud of writing, and what’s a line that’s just out-of-context ridiculous?

The first is from my Space Pirates project and the second is from a romance novel I'm currently tidying up to send to my beta ^.^

A line I'm proud of:

Heat began building up under her skin, bubbling and roiling, twisting and churning, Sirena felt like she was full of something, of Nothing, of Blood and Blood and Blood and Stars and swirling Void.

A line that's ridiculous out-of-context:

"Have you ever heard of Omegaverse?" is what Emrys blurted out instead of saying anything normal.

hi! I was going through the tags on that tumblr post abt media with a ton of content warnings that turn out to be recommendations and saw your tags abt death mark which looks right up my alley. just wondering if you had a content warning list on hand for the game? a cursory google is giving me a general picture of what to expect but I was wondering if there’s another resource floating around with a little more detail than “blood/gore and one torture-esque scenario”. no worries if not - and thanks for the rec! :^)

hi! i don't think ive ever seen a list but i can make one from the top of my head by chapter, and if you have any specific triggers you might need a warning for you should just tell me what it is and I'll let you know!

all of the chapters contain gore / body horror so im going to be a bit more specific about what happens

also this game has a weird thing for "sexy" cgs in really unnecessary moments and it's unfortunate / one of my biggest issues with the game because it could be easily removed and the game would still be fine without them.

chapter 1: plant horror / gore, dismemberment, child abuse (mentioned)

chapter 2: bug horror, trypophobia, mass suicide (mentioned)

chapter 3: sexual assault (mentioned), suicide (mentioned)

chapter 4: animal abuse

chapter 5: war crimes, experiments on people, religious imagery

chapter 6: child exploitation, suggestive themes

many of it comes from the spirit characters having been victims of some sort of terrible happening in their life and it is handled tastefully for the most part. i think sometimes they try to use sex as a horror factor as well and im still not honestly sure what i think about it but it's there and i like to bring it up so that they can choose if they want to play the game or not! despite the little cringe scenes (that are like. 99% removed in the second game) it's still one of my favorite games and if you end up enjoying it and wanting to talk about it, id love to hear what you have to say about it

Shoutout to everyone who aren't free to choose how they spend their Easter this year.

If you're forced to go to church, I hope you can find distractions to make the day fly by faster.

If the pastor won't shut up about how 'evil' you are, I hope you can shake off any guilt they are trying to put on your shoulders.

If you're forced to meet extended family, I hope you can shut out their comments and find time to slip away.

If your family makes you eat food you don't want to, I hope you don't feel sick afterwards.

If this Easter is especially tough for you, I hope you'll find comfort and know it won't be like this forever. I hope you know that you have support, even from strangers online, and you can get through this holiday fast and as painlessly as possible.
