We think of the Ancient Romans as being refined but they had a weird side too. From eating until they vomited to using gladiator skin in cosmetics, things could get wild.

Cheers to my Filipino pal’s New Year celebration of friends and family. Normally my family and I just went to bed from yesterday instead of counting down the ball drops to seeing the fireworks. Even if we wanted to, but that’s just me saying my head.
At least nice to see my friend’s family managed to get in the fun with those delicious feasts while watching the countdown. I’m really glad for them, but also with my friend’s artwork that deserves their time as well.
🐰🖌️Maxwell: You know it! Don’t forget about us, though. We wanted to have some fun celebration with Spot and the others.
🐰👊💥May: And hoping what to expect for 2024; mostly the good ones and less negative ones.
🦊⚽️Sam: Yup! For now, let’s cheers on for the fresh year with friends and families!
*YEAH!!*

Ah, and let’s not forget that he got his first “Take-a-Taste” on the first day. Though after reading this, it’s safe to say he won’t be planning to take any alcoholic beverages anytime soon. Same goes to me as I’m more into sodas, juices, and water bottles.

Dimiclaude Week 2022 day 3: feasts.
12/2-3/2022. Pencil drawing, referencing S.H. Figuarts Body-kun (original version) and S.H. Figuarts Body-Kun Rihito Takarai version, as drawing models. Lines inked with Stabilo pens, Copic Gasenfude brush pen, Zig Clean Color Real Brush pen, Kuretake Zig Brushables marker, Daiso Brush Pen Twin, Copic Multiliner 0.3 Wine pen, and Copic Multiliner 0.25 and 0.03 pens. Colored with Copic markers and ShinHanArt Touch markers. Clean-up, fixes, and background done through Krita. . I'm still learning to draw digitally, but I thought I'd try to add a background in Kirta. I still need more practice though. Referenced Google image searches for "medieval feast painting" for window and chair designs. But I used whatever default patterns were already in Krita, instead of aiming for true accuracy.
I think I like drawing a bunch of different food. ^.^
I drew Claude and Dimitri too close together, because my paper isn't very wide, while being conscious of the sketchbook's bookbinding gutter, during scans. My figure models' photos reflect the distince between the characters that I originally intended. I didn't really intend for them to cross forearms like that. But I hope it works anyway.
Don't ask me where the cutlery is. I've been working on this for too many all-nighters. I'm tired. lol ^.^;

Celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles for seven days after you have gathered the produce of your threshing floor and your winepress. Be joyful at your festival -- you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites, the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns.

On the Fourth, Fairs, and Festivals
In my never ending search for a Grand Unified Field Theory of Show Business, I have been harping an awful lot the last several months on the topic of the ancient Pagan holidays that were absorbed into Saints Days by the Christian church in the Middle Ages. Midsummer/ St. John’s Day is one of these, and as I wrote in those posts, I believe that in the U.S., the Collective Unconscious adapted…

Day 10 - Feasts
Tumblr media
So, food is a nightmare to draw. Went kinda crazy on the details. So crazy, in fact, that I ran out of steam before I could colour it. I reserve the right to later.
Yes, that's all for her. Girl eats like an animal.

QUOTE OF THE DAY Saturday, June 25, 2022
"Hākari — feasts — Play an important role in Māori culture as a demonstration of hospitality in mana. Some 19th-century hākari featured vast amounts of food, displayed in stacks or on stages.
Hākari became huge in the 19th century. Some featured thousands of guests, with many tonnes of food." - Basil Keane, "Story: Māori feasts and ceremonial eating — hākari"

Here is more recent scientific research that challenges a common assumption about life in the Middle Ages. This time, it concerns how people ate. While the two studies were done only on English nobility and in the first half of the Middle Ages, the conclusions could still have broader implications on our understanding of medieval society. Diets might not seem very historically significant at first, but read the summary of the research to learn how new discoveries might affect how historians think of feudalism.
