Lately I’ve been reading more about the Earth. I want to know everything. I feel like the more I learn the more connected I feel with everything. It’s incredibly grounding. There are so many moments where it feels like the earth is burning around me and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, but learning has changed this. There’s so much out of my control, but books like “The Botany of Desire”, “Braiding Sweetgrass”, and “Finding The Mother Tree” have given me so much hope; the resilience and magic of the Earth is beyond what I could’ve ever imagined. So much of life’s answers are already here, we just have to listen.

As one does, sometimes I like to know how much disassociation I've stumbled through this year and of course, I subjected myself to an AO3 Wrapped by bothermione. I shouldn't be shocked, but I am always shocked by my results. I've had a very big year of reading fanfiction. A big year for omegaverse (alpha/beta/omega dynamics was my top tagof the year). A big year of hurting my own feelings. A year of discovering some absolute bangers.
One More to Love by @krethes & @theresthesnitch My top fic of the year. I've read this no less that 50+ times. This was my first foray back into Wolfstarbucks fanfiction and it delivered. It quite literally put me in my omegaverse era and prompted me to write for my first fest (@marauders-omegaverse-fest). I am literally at the edge of my seat, eagerly awaiting the next update.
Surface Pressure and If Paths Diverge by handsonmyheart Two. Top tier completed Harrymort fics I just happened to stumbled upon. The hurt. The comfort. The mindgames. The smut. All of it. STUNNING. These are both dark fics, so please mind the tags.
draw me after you (let us run) by ToAStranger Slow burn Tomarry. And it is a slow burn. Horcrux hunting. An intelligent Harry. And the prose... *chef's kiss*
This was the first year that I truly slinked out of the HP fandom. I got hit so hard with the anime simp stick. So hard. I've always been a diehard Trigun fan and when we got a reboot of sorts, between Trigun Stampede and Jujitsu Kaisen, it all truly revived the otaku in me.
Genesis, Saint Aflame, and Siúil, A Run by @bigbaras (grapejuice vash/bigbaras2 on ao3) I will caution you to know that these three fics are dead doves. That said, they singlehandedly put me on the plantcest ship. Most especially with Genesis. I aspire to write this beautifully one day. And not only are they a fantastic writer, they have the most beautiful Trigun art I have ever seen. One day, I will commission them.
Speechless by NoraAshryver This is just the most indulgent piece of Gojo/Nanami smut that I stumbled upon via a discord chat with friends. And it was an absolute delight. AND THERE'S ART. All hail Soft Dom Nanami.

How do we deal with the fundamental absurdity (of the world)?
We can acknowledge the fundamental absurdity of the human condition, and just kind of exist within it!
I added the exclamation point to try to hide how bleak a sentence that is. But for Camus, that’s the only real answer.
I don’t know whether this world has a meaning that transcends it. But I know that I do not know that meaning and that it is impossible for me just now to know it.… These two certainties—my appetite for the absolute and for unity and the impossibility of reducing this world to a rational and reasonable principle—I also know that I cannot reconcile them.
The only way to cope with our desire for meaning inside an empty, pointless universe is to recognize how absurd it is that we exist in an empty, pointless universe and still desire meaning. He wants us to stand in the middle of the hurricane of absurdity, neither denying it nor allowing it to defeat us.

2022 reading wrap-up
So I read 75 books last year
Here are my top three reads.
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
(It's so good, omg, believe the hype, this book is like a warm hug, it will make you cry but only from all the heart-bursting good feelings)
Loveless by Alice Oseman
(I have never read a book like this, and I wish I had when I was a teenager. WOW. Such strong representation and such a strong message. Even allosexual people should read this book. I love it.)
Heartsong by TJ Klune
(The third book in the Green Creek series. The whole series is a slam dunk, but this installment is THE BEST ONE IF YOU ASK ME. Robbie is the newest member of the pack, and he has a traumatic past that’s catching up to him. It's so emotional and so heartbreaking. And heartmending! Just - the way the pack bands together to make Robbie feel like he belongs, is the most incredible take on the found family trope. This book. Is simply amazing. High stakes fantasy with a happy ending. TJ Klune is my favorite author this year. I really enjoyed this series, but I especially enjoyed this book and I wanna sing its praises.) (also this book has an asexual werewolf) (what more can i say) (also they're mates) (MATES) (i thought I was sick of the mating bond trope but it turns out if you make it gay I'm all about it) (every single werewolf in the Bennet pack is as queer as can be) (if you like werewolves) (and books with an entirely queer cast) (read this book) (read this series) (I can't recommend it enough)
If anyone wants to be friends on The Storygraph let me know
I love reading and I love discussing books
and I always write little book reports for the books I read like I'm in elementary school
anyways here's my wrapped, 2022 in a glance, it's a real big image so I'm linking it under the cut

✨️2022 Favorites!✨️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Slowly (very slowly) but surely getting back into reading, and these were some of my favorite reads of 2022! (Not counting picture books...most of what I read this year was picture books lol)
🐺 Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves, by Meg Long
🐙 Remarkably Bright Creatures, by Shelby Van Pelt
🔪 Final Girl Support Group, by Grady Hendrix
Not pictured, but also favorites:
💜 The Queer Principles of Kit Webb and The Fantastic Crimes of Marian Hayes by Cat Sebastian (ughhh the pacing of these books just understood me on a visceral level, such perfection)
And my favorite audio book of the year:
❤ A Kiss From A Knave, by Leslie Kelly (the audio book just came out a few weeks ago, and is amazing!!)
It's funny, I typically prefer to read ebooks. But this year, trying to rebuild time for reading into my life, I found it easier to lock into a physical copy again. This year was the first time in ages I read a hardcover.
My goal for next year is just to keep it going and read a bit more!

2022: A Reading Retrospective
I'm going to try and list my favorite book from each month of 2022. This is not necessarily my top 12 books of 2022--because what if every book I read in May was better than anything I read in August?--but picking a favorite from each month seemed like an easier task.
January
Highland Wolf by Lynsay Sands
February
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
I wasn't so sure about this book when I first started it, but the ending made it a memorable read.
March
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
This was a re-read, but since I only read two books in March, this was an obvious choice.
April
Cress by Marissa Meyer
Another re-read, but Cress was always my favorite book in The Lunar Chronicles.
May
Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater
I loved this blend of fantasy and regency romance.
June
The Brightest Star in Paris by Diana Biller
I don't normally like second-chance romances, but Diana Biller knows how to write a great story. This novel has even more paranormal/supernatural elements than The Widow of Rose House.
July
Eclipse the Moon by Jessie Mihalik
I love Mihalik's sci-romances, and this grumpy x sunshine was a fun read.
August
The League of Gentlewomen Witches by India Holton
Holton's Dangerous Damsels books are an enjoyable blend of fantasy, humor, and romance.
September
Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase
This novel reminds me of The Mummy (1999) movie in the best way.
October
Babel by R. F. Kuang
Probably the smartest book I read all year. Kuang uses a fantasy Oxford to craft an incisive critique of British colonialism.
November
The Heretic Royal by G. A. Aiken
Fantasy + Humor + Grumpy x Sunshine Romance = A Happy Reader
December
A Kiss for Midwinter by Courtney Milan
A well-crafted historical romance novella makes for the perfect holiday read.
