Judge them all or do not judge
I'm not liking what I'm seeing for this fandom right now, I'm seeing so much bullshit about Tommy Kinard... Like the fact that he was an ass previously etc...
Yeah I get it, he wasn't that good, but we only saw him for a few episodes back then, and they were not about him...
But guess what? All the characters did something awful in the past, and guess what again? We "forgave" their faults:
Eddie did flee his wife AND kid because he couldn't do it, like possibly DYING was better than raising his son, yeah father material right there... He then ended up in relationships to find a mother figure, that's manipulation (even if it's for a good cause)
Buck cheated on his girlfriend! He didn't do anything to help Maddie when she was with Doug, like he said himself he should have not ignored the signs, but he did!
Hen cheated on her wife with her ex like no big deal and then went back to Karen...
Bobby was an addict and it stopped him from saving his wife and kids, and he started that fire (not voluntarily of course but it was his negligence...)
Chimney hit Buck because he was protecting his sister and resented him about it! Because he thought he had the right to know where she was...
They all did something that they're not proud of, and I'm sure I'm not remembering everything right now, but we saw them grow, not change but grow with those difficulties and that's perfect, that's why we love them so much.
But Tommy might have been an ass before but he grew too! He came out, and it was implied that he was on better terms with Chimney and Hen so they still talked between episodes. People can grow, and Tommy did too we just didn't see it on our screens and a lot of people are judging him for his past, ok, if you judge Tommy for the man he was, judge all the characters for the person they were before too. Don't just take it out on Tommy because he kissed Buck, that's so hypocritical...

Faults in Capitol Reef National Park, UT
The first two photos are of the same near vertically-oriented fault. This is a major fault that stretches for miles across the northern portion of Capitol Reef and outside the park, towards Torrey, UT. The third photo shows two smaller parallel (synthetic) faults in the Entrada Sandstone where the top (hanging wall) layers were dropped down, indicating extension.

Ah, he doesn’t know the rest of my nagging faults - otherwise, he wouldn’t be gossiping about only these!

"I like a man with faults, especially when he knows it. To err is human --- I'm uncomfortable around gods." Hugh Prather
Tumblr media
I like working with electricity. You could say that's one of my faults. My "accidents" have been far and few between. I learned early on to shut down power at the breaker panel before working on replacing switches or outlets, or hanging new fixtures. I never touch a wire without testing it for power with one of those gizmos that light up if power is present. As careful as I am, I still get an occasional buzz. Not much, but enough to remind me to be careful, and so I am. Living is a lot like working with electricity; one just needs to learn to stay well-grounded, like my Stunt Double du Jour (who is apparently shocked to find I know so much about AC and DC.

Geology of the Alvord Desert
youtube
The Alvord Desert, a huge playa in southeast Oregon, is the closest you can get in the Pacific Northwest to Death Valley - or any proper desert. From a geologic perspective, the two places are different but share similarities in their geologic structure. Tall mountains on one side, shorter mountains on all other sides, all bounded by geologic faults. There's a lot more than that though that makes the Alvord Desert truly special and unique - learn more on BetterGeology!

it’s just the ongoing slog of being a human and returning to the practice
And I think that as I’ve aged, I realized everything is an ongoing process. And that it isn’t something that suddenly you’ve done this work and therefore you become enlightened, right? That you’re like, oh, you wake up one day and be like, oh, guess what, I don’t have an ego. I’m not bothered by anything. And instead, of course, it’s just the ongoing slog of being a human and returning to the practice. And OK, here we are again. That’s bothering me. Here I am again. I’m full of faults.

A smaller fault with a sketch of the larger overall structure on the right! Alternating layers of a dark pebbly sandstone and a finergrained silty sandstone, overlain by a conglomerate (not seen).

[Sun-dried tomato ranch. Yep. Mmm. Here's the deal. Silly to try to escape other people’s faults just don't really have the texture. You don't feel that little bit of that potato crunch.]
