LU Star Wars AU: Part 5
LAST BUT NOT LEAST ITS TIME AND SKY LETS GO
PART 1 | PART 2 | PART 3 | PART 4
Tumblr media
Time
Time is a direct survivor of Order 66. He was a child living in one of the more remote temples when everything happened, and was able to escape alive by fleeing into the dense forests of the planet.
Time spent many years after that traveling on his own and not getting close to anyone out of fear of being found out, or worse, left behind. He holds a certain bitterness towards everything that's happened, and when he was a teenager, he was involved in a major incident on the planet Termina. Time finally decided to bury his saber on a remote planet after that, unwilling to take on the responsibility that comes with it.
Time actually ended up meeting Sheik and donning Mandalorian armor some time after that in his teenage years. He doesnt always gel with Mandalorian warrior ideaology, but he doesn’t truly fit the Jedi way of his childhood anymore either, after all the war and death he’s seen. He's determined to be strong enough to protect those he cares about, like Malon.
Time doesn't entirely get along with the Chain at first. (Especially Warriors and Twilight; Warriors reminds him of his old Jedi master, who wore a red scarf, and Twilight's saber looks suspiciously familiar.) The boys eventually grew on him anyway, and he counts them among the people he cares about.

Sky
Sky comes from a gaseous planet in the Outer Rim with settlements that float in the clouds, constructed far above its surface.
Sky's planet is a bit of a cosmic mystery, since it should be impossible for islands of solid rock to float; some theorize that it was constructed instead of naturally occurring, or that there is a unique combination of magnetic fields and orbits that make it possible, but no one knows for certain. Loftwings are part of the planet's ecosystem of impossible floating islands, and are an important part of the culture there.
Being so remote, the Empire didn't show much interest in Sky's home planet until Ghirahim showed up. The Empire hasn’t taken over his home yet, and he is determined to keep it that way, along with the rest of the Knights of Skyloft (including Sun). Ghirahim's interest in the planet involved rumors that there was an old Jedi temple hidden on its surface, and the secrets that were hidden within it.
Those rumors turned out to be true; there was an ancient abandoned temple on one of the floating islands, and Sky and Sun ended up discovering it before Ghirahim did. Sky also found a protocol droid named F1, and with Fi's help he and Sun managed to forge their own sabers with the only remaining kyber crystals there.
Sky's connection to the Force manifests mostly as visions, and he occasionally experiences strange, cryptic dreams as a result.

Legend of Zelda really heard the "what sort of being chooses an orphaned child/teenager as their chosen one?!?" moral quandary and answered repeatedly with "another orphaned child/teenager" and/or "his best friend who doesn't know who else to ask" and "his soulmate, who is in danger, again, and who's heart breaks every time she has to ask him to fight" and you know what? Those are the only valid answers ever.

THERE’S A WAY TO BREAK DEMISE’S CURSE
HEY, so if you’ve been invested in the Legend of Zelda games for forever (like I’ve been), I need you to watch this video essay about Demise’s curse by Hylian Dan. Whether you loved or hated Skyward Sword, Hylian Dan did an incredible job analyzing the story from multiple literary perspectives (while actually citing his sources in a bibliography!), and he makes a powerful argument about how Skyward Sword has quietly revealed an escape from Demise’s curse, and how the answer might have been foreshadowed throughout the entire game. 👀
Authorship credit for the video cause I’m just resharing it: Hylian Dan is a former staff writer for Zelda Universe, and also wrote a viral essay on the deeper meaning behind Majora’s Mask years ago. He also has a bachelor’s degree in game design (and worked for Disney as a writer!) along with a master’s degree in theological studies. He’s also made a wonderful video essay analyzing the literary themes in Link’s Awakening, which have carried over into Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I really recommend following this guy because he’s not just talking out of his ass–he’s educated, doing his research, and actually cites his sources consistently (something I wish all video essayists did more often).
I've been following his work for a little while now and his videos deserve WAY more attention for the sheer level of quality he puts into these videos--so please give it a watch!

Zelda constantly rambling is 100% a trait I adore with every ounce of my being but the reason behind it is actually so heartbreaking.
Zelda and her studies were condemned mercilessly by her father. She legitimately ran away from the castle and her father’s orders multiple times because of how stifled she felt inside the castle.
And though she had the support of Impa and Purah, she was forbidden by the King to continue with her research on the Guardians.
And then we have Link who actually listens to her. He’s with her constantly as her knight attendant and he actually listens. She will ramble about anything, because she is so smart and has a wide variety of knowledge that was always looked down upon because it wasn’t her ‘duty’. And he shows genuine interest.
And to fast forward to totk where we learn that they are practically inseparable to the point that people assume Zelda is safe because Link is or know something is immediately wrong bc Zelda isn’t by Link’s side…. *spoilers for totk ending below*
It’s just so precious to me because Zelda grew up with her hobbies and interests put down and now she has Link who she is not at all afraid to ramble on and on to about the zonai and some of her first thoughts upon waking up at the end are the many things she just has to tell Link about. Zelda finally has a home where she can just be her and that home is Link and the Hyrule they are rebuilding together.
Also just adding the fact that Zelda obviously rambled about Link to Sonia prior to memory eight and gave the impression that Zelda’s absolute devotion and faith in Link was 100% reciprocated bc of Sonia’s teasing comments ….
Zelda’s rambling is absolutely precious to me and I’m so happy she has Link who is forever supportive of her and her endeavors regardless of what they might be.

Listen so I have a brainworm. Possibly an anti-destiny AU
[EDIT: it is now a full comic in the making!! here it is, Against Fate]
Anyway it all started because of @lunian ‘s rehydrated Ganon designs :3, plus I recently finished reading “Interim” by @punishandenslavesuckers (starkraving in AO3) which is simply wonderful, I want a printed tome in my bookshelf.
Consider a 🔁 if you 💟 what I do!

Honestly, I have no idea where the fandom's fear of the "terrible fate" line from Majora's Mask came from. I've seen people use this line to convey eeriness or unsettlement, but it doesn't make much sense to me because, genuinely, what tender words.
Think about it. Playing Majora's Mask, after Link has had his encounter with Skullkid, losing Epona, being transformed into a Deku scrub and trapped in a body that isnt his, the Happy Mask Salesman finds our Hero of Time in a state of desperation, and the first thing he says when he approaches is:
"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"
Like, how poetic of a line for him to say upon finding how things have ended up for Link. Those words were a fresh breath of sympathy for me as the player. How terrible of a situation for you to be in. Yes, I have met with a terrible fate, and it's nice to know that someone can see that.
