It's Domaystic 2024!

Hello, hello! This is the third year of DOMAYSTIC, a domestic trope based prompt event running in May :D

This is the main post for the event and in the picture above there are the prompts.

They're 31 prompts (no alts this time), but they are also divided in three main categories, which I loosely labelled as "people from everyday life" from 1 to 10; "things from everyday life" from A to J; and "general-container-stuff that can be bent to one's own desires" from roman number I to X. Plus, at the very end, a free choice option (we never had one and the days are not even ahahah).

General rules and guidelines

Domaystic is open to any fandom or original content.

Any kind of media is welcome. You choose your way of expression.

There are no limits/restrictions on how your fill should be.

There’s a total of 31 prompts for 31 days.

To join the event one can do a prompt a day following the list as it is; or following the sequence they prefer; or only the ones of their liking, even just one.

Or, and this is my challenge proposition for anyone who wants to take it: try to combine one prompt from each one of the three categories + the free choice. Which in total would produce 10 fills + 1 if all are done.

Share your work anywhere you want or keep it to yourself, that's fine. If you share it on tumblr and tag this blog, I’ll reblog it.

If you also want to combine these prompts with another fandom event, that's okay.

Domaystic runs actively throughout May; if you join or tag the blog on a later date, that's fine too, I just reblog on a lower pace after May is over.

Week(s)-In-Review

Since I was too heavily invested in potato-ing to do this last week, this is technically two weeks worth. 🥔🥔

Watching: is actually REwatching M*A*S*H yet again. -ish?

As in letting it run on the tv in the background a lot. I'm already at Charles! He's such a better foil than Frank ever managed. (Glorious bastard vs snivelling ninny, the glorious bastard always wins.) I did stop and watch Mulcahy's War properly tho, since that's always been one of my favorite episodes. It is also where bb!jilly first learned the word 'tracheotomy' and bb!jilly wanted to be a pathologist when she grew up, so that's a pretty formative influence. Or something?

Adulting: Still enjoying my job, and they don't seem to want to get rid of me, either. 😄 Not so great with non-job to-do list, but whatever. Adulting is hard, no one's dying/starving/injured/fired, so we'll take it.

I finished my first "race" of the year! I don't have my medal yet though, you'll have to wait on that. I'm only averaging about a mile and a half a day which means I'm gonna need to be *over* three miles/day for the rest of the year, but I did the same thing last year, I just suck at January/February so it's not actually that discouraging. (I also lost a bunch of steps because I wasn't wearing my watch while I was shoveling out the driveway when we finally got snow last week, but whatever. 🤣)

Reading: Mermaids & Murder & Toad, oh my!

I liked Into the Drowning Deep more than Rolling in the Deep, but I'm glad I finally tracked down a copy so I could read it, it is very good. If tragic. But I knew that going in.

Adèle from Jane Eyre is an excellent heroine of her own, and for all I do actually adore the original, this is visceral & self-aware in a way I think Bronte would have appreciated, even as it does emphasize different conclusions.

Hey look I've had T. Kingfisher in *every one* of these so far, so are we surprised? No. Is Thornhedge spectacular & somehow adorable even around all the terrible fae violence? Yes. (I should let my mother know I'd like the hardcover for my birthday, since it was a library read. 🎁)

Playing: Cult of the Lamb, to poke around the new Sins of the Flesh update. It's a very silly game, but again, I knew that already 😅😅😅 (Thing 1 got it for me, I'm glad he knows I've put an embarrassing number of hours into it.)

Creating: No writing or podfics or fanmixing, despite the occasional intention for all of the above. However!

How does this event work?

Every day of the month has an assigned prompt. The real challenge is to try and create something new for each day and each prompt.

But, of course, that is an ambitious goal! There are easier options.

If you...

create only one thing, or two, or three

only create something for two or three of these prompts

create something for a prompt but post it a few days later

don’t follow the prompts at all

...you’re still participating —as long as your creation is about Louis de Pointe du Lac, as portrayed by Jacob Anderson. 

And Louis's character exists in relation with others, of course! So your contribution could be a portrait of the entire du Lac family, a playlist about one of his romantic relationships, a comic about his relationship with Claudia from her point of view, etc.

If Louis is at the heart of your creation, then your piece is in the spirit of this event.

This challenge isn’t limited to fanfiction or fanart!

Your contributions as a fan don’t have to be restricted to the most usual mediums. Beyond fanfic and fanart, some things that you may decide to create include: fanmixes, moodboards, gifsets, photomanips and graphics; fanedits and AMVs; meta and analysis in written, audio or video form; poetry, music, a blog post about your headcanons, your meta, or your favorite fanworks; and anything else you can think of. 

Your creations can be related to your own or others’ existing work as well —if, for example, you want to use one of the prompts to add to an existing fanfiction series, or as inspiration for fanart of your favorite fic, that’s totally within the scope of this challenge! 

You can start working on your creations for this challenge with as much (or as little) anticipation as you like, but remember to hold off from sharing them until the event starts. And, if you are taking inspiration from a prompt, we encourage you to share your work on that day.

ROTG Hope Week 2024 - 31 March through 6 April

The last few years have been rough on many of us, and we could all use a little Hope.

So once again we're back for the RISE OF THE GUARDIANS April[ish] fandom creation event, starting on Easter Sunday, March 31st at 12:01AM Eastern US Time, and ending on Saturday, April 6th at 11:59PM Eastern US Time.

We're trying something a little different this year - one overarching theme, that of games, with a daily Column A choice and a Column B choice, so that participants can take their pick of one or two prompts to fill per day.

GUIDELINES:

7 days, 14 prompts, with your choice of one or two prompts per day.

Visual, aural, textile, and literary works are allowed - fanart, fanfiction, gifs, edits/manips, cosplay, fanmixes, crafts, or ask-and-answer IF THEY FIT THE PROMPT.

Creation of original material is preferred for this event, rather than reblogs.

Inspiration should be drawn from the GUARDIANS OF CHILDHOOD bookverse and the RISE OF THE GUARDIANS movieverse.

40 days and counting down to this year's autumnal RISE OF THE GUARDIANS thirteen-day-long fandom event, starting on 19 October 2023 and concluding on 31 October 2023.

2023 EVENT GUIDELINES

13 days, 13 prompts.

Visual, aural, textile, and literary works are allowed - fanart, fanfiction, gifs, edits/manips, cosplay, fanmixes, crafts, or ask-and-answer.  

Unlike other fandom events, reblogs of previously created material are welcome IF THEY FIT THE PROMPT, but creation of original material is preferred.

Highly Irregular Fargo Week 2024

(Anniversary Edition!)

Highly Irregular Fargo Week is a weeklong fanworks event celebrating rare characters in both the FX series Fargo and the 1996 Coen Brothers movie which inspired it.

This year's event will mark the 10th anniversary of the Fargo TV series premiering on FX in 2014. It will run from Monday, April 15, to Monday, April 22, 2024 — because a week with eight days is highly irregular.

What counts as a highly irregular character?

Highly irregular characters are rare characters. For the purposes of this event, characters with under 50 works in the Fargo (TV) and Fargo (1996) tags on Archive of Our Own (AO3) as of this posting are considered rare.

For reference, the currently ineligible characters are: Mr. Wrench, Mr. Numbers, Lorne Malvo, Lester Nygaard, and Gator Tillman.

Can my work include a non-rare character?

Non-rare characters may be mentioned or appear briefly, but the major focus of the work should be on at least one rare character. Basically, if the non-rare character’s appearance would warrant them being tagged on AO3, they feature too prominently.

What if my work focuses on a rarepair?

This is a rare character event, not a rarepair event. However, rarepair works are welcome as long as the pairing doesn’t include any non-rare characters.

So, for example, Nikki Swango/Mr. Wrench would be ineligible, because while the pairing itself has under 50 works on AO3, Mr. Wrench as a character has over 50 works. 

Are crossovers allowed?

Crossovers between the Fargo TV series and the Fargo movie are allowed. Crossovers with non-Fargo fandoms are not.

Are original characters allowed?

Yes, as long as the work also prominently features at least one rare canon character.

Does it have to be fanfiction? Can I post art or other types of fanwork?

All types of fanwork are welcome, as long as they focus on at least one rare Fargo character. That includes art, GIFs, graphics, fanmixes, fanvids, meta, etc.

Do I have to follow the schedule?

The schedule is completely optional, and is only there to provide inspiration for those who might need it. Feel free to ignore it entirely, or switch around the days.

Where and when should I post my work?

You can add your fanworks to the AO3 collection, and/or post them on Tumblr. For Tumblr posts, be sure to use the tag #hifargoweek2024, and/or mention @hifargoweek​ in the post.

The collection will open at approximately 12 am EDT on April 15 and close at approximately 11:59 pm EDT on April 22. Eligible works posted on Tumblr during the same period will be reblogged to this account.

Why do you hate [insert popular character here]?

I don’t! The purpose of this event is simply to give more attention to the less popular characters in the fandom, and to challenge fans to stretch their creative muscles.

Are there any other requirements?

Nope! Works of any length, rating, category, and archive warning are eligible. Feel free to post as many works as you’d like, as long as they meet the requirements for rare characters.

okay, now that i am somewhat over my initial fury at the only friends finale, i'm moving into the "fix it with fanworks" stage. i'm thinking about running a challenge for fanworks that let boston bang his way through all the hot bl characters that would appreciate it.

boston as a former hook up of prapai's? yes. boston, nick, and dan have a foursome with dan's secret cousin gumpa? absolutely. boston goes on vacation to pattaya and sleeps with the hot chicken and rice guy? go for it. anything and everything goes.

Do you love Shuri Udaku and Riri Williams as a pair/ship? This is the place for you!

Shuriri Week is a celebration of Shuri/Riri, Black women, sapphic love, and all things SCIENCE GIRLFRIENDS and Black Panther Wakanda Forever! This event is happening on TUMBLR and ARCHIVE OF OUR OWN (AO3).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

- What is Shuriri Week?

Shuriri week is a week long community/fandom celebration of the Shuri Udaku/Riri Williams pairing/ship. This celebration includes fan fiction, fan art, discussions, polls, etc. 

- Do I need to sign up/post everyday/how to submit?

There's no sign up! On Tumblr, all you need to do is post it with the tag #ShuririWeek2024 *and* @/mention the page (@shuririweek). It will be reblogged! You don't need to post everyday! You can choose which theme days you want to participate in - and you can choose from any of the suggested prompts or use your own, as long as the work you post is aligned the correct theme day! All you need to do to submit a work on AO3 is post it to your account and add it to the sub collection for that event (ex. SHURIRIWEEK2024 for works done for that event). (Link)

- What if I post late/early/for the wrong day?

No worries! While there are rules for submission, it's not the end of the world if you make a mistake. For TUMBLR, I'll do my best reblog it on the right day! Please make sure to not only add the Tag for the event, but also mention the page. For AO3, it doesn't matter! All works will include the theme and prompts and people will be able to find the ones they want to read! 

- Where do I find the theme days/prompts?

They can be found on Tumblr @ShuririWeek and on the admin's page, @Blacksapphhicmaddonna - in text form and in graphics. (Link)

- Can I make NSFW content?

Yes! You just have to tag it as such. You MUST tag anything you create with the correct tags pertaining to sexual/explicit content, trigger warnings and content warnings. Failure to do so will result in your work not being added/reblogged.

- What if I miss the event and still want to participate? 

All good! Content posted under the event tag will be reblogged/added up to a week (7 days) after the event. After that? Don't worry! More events will happen!

- What's the difference between the THEME DAY and the PROMPT?

The Theme Days are GENRES that are designated to each day of the event week. These are "mandatory" (within the context that you should post the work correlating to each theme on the correct/aligned day). Prompts are not mandatory, but rather suggestions and challenges for you to try to incorporate into your work! You can use as many or as few prompts as you'd like for each work! They are different for each event!

- What kind of work is accepted?

FANFICTION, FAN ART, MEMES, FANMIXES, GIF SETS, MOOD BOARDS, FAN EDITS, ETC. IN PROGRESS/WIP’S/TEASERS/SNEAKPEAKS WILL ALSO BE ACCEPTED.

Looking through old fic on my Google Drive, and man, I miss some of the old LiveJournal fic challenges. The bandom one to write an AU based on the plot of a romantic comedy movie was excellent, and I'm still proud of my Sleepless in Seattle AU story, it's one of the best I've posted, I think. I miss challenges that invite people to write long-ish but finite stories (10k-50k) based on prompts or in exchange for art or fanmixes and make it a whole event to post/reveal them. Lots of things now either seem to be short written-in-one-sitting pieces or giant WIPs that may or may not ever finish. That old novella length was my sweet spot, I think, and it was fun to be writing in concert with a lot of other people.

I'd think about running one again, but I don't know how many would actually participate and produce something - by the time I gave up on the old Dragon Age big bang years ago, the culture was already shifting and the length and requirement to finish and post the whole thing in one go was no longer attractive to the newer writers. Everyone wanted to either write something short enough to post immediately, or wanted to have an unfinished WIP to participate. It may be that this form/length is just mostly a thing of the past, which is sad, but I'll continue to be nostalgic for it. Sometimes as a writer, you just want to challenge yourself to hit plot beats and write a beginning, middle, and end in a reasonable amount of time, and sometimes as a reader you just want to have a whole influx of appetizer-style stories you can look forward to in your fandom that you know are complete stories as soon as they're posted.

Anyway. I know there's nothing stopping me from just writing something like that, but part of the charm was having a community of people who were all writing the same kind of thing at the same time. It's one of the reasons the FFXIV Write month is so awesome. There's not a lot of organized community writing in Tumblr times, which is a shame.

Chapter 3 of you want it darker? || dark king eliot is now live! As a Queliot gift for Valentine's Day!

This chapter does still focus on Eliot's grief, and Quentin's still technically dead (but not really/permanently?). But, as dark and angsty as this story can be, there's a strong emphasis on the Queliot love story. It feels essential to me. Hopefully you’ll agree! Big 🍑❤️ to all of you today (Happy Valentine’s Day, no matter when you read this!) (Yes, today this fic finally earns its E-rating!)

Summary for Chapter 3 specifically:

Eliot sees glimpses of Quentin everywhere. Hears his voice. Feels his phantom touch.

He knows it's really Q. And that no one will believe him. Telling Margo or Julia will only make them worry more.

Meanwhile, attempts to bring Quentin back continue to fail. Will a visit with an old friend help turn things around?
