#fanfiction is where he isn't doomed

you know this thing where almost every comic ever about a nightmare sequence has the wayne's murder as the most ultimate terrible horrendous thing that happened to bruce ever and then have him overcome it in the next comic?
Not that his trauma isn't terrible but I feel like he should have moved on during his time as dick's and jason's guardian/dad and then the next big trauma thing happened. And then he moves on slightly from that and the next big trauma thing happens. And then again. And again.
Sure, his parents are always going to be the first stone for the foundation of his purpose as batman but then other things keep happening and he accumulates more trauma and experiences and those things become part of what batman is too.
I don't mean he should move on because then batman would cease to exist the way he is now, i mean that his main fear and trauma has evolved, and, basically, integrated all the bad things that ever happened to him and people he's close to.
So when he thinks of his parents, he also thinks of what happened to barbara's birth parents and gordon, Dick's parents and jason's parents and tim's parents and clark's parents and so on...
I think that would be more interesting than getting another "oh yeah, look at that. poor batman and his poor parents, one being doomed to watch and two being doomed to get shot. do you feel sad now? you should, just look at his poor parents"
Every worst fear would be different depending on what happened last week, so every nightmare sequence could just focus on the different horrors of being a vigilante.
when, exactly, would you have him "move on"? As in "move on but not really". Their deaths stop being an oppressive force and become a resigned sadness that he accepted a long time ago but also tries to change every day when he steps in front of bullets in alleyways.
Does this make sense???
Yes! I’m glad you brought this up since I actually just finished watching Gen V on prime where they have a very similar fanfiction esque dream sequence in someone’s mind where you see their “most traumatic” experience.
And yeah. While Bruce’s parents’ murders were formative and probably damn near the worst thing that ever happened to him, they happened DECADES ago. Unless he’s actively rehearsing those memories, they are never going to hurt as much as newer, traumatic events.
I know I keep going back to this but someone told me the other day that there’s no worse grief than losing a parent, except losing a child. Bruce LOST Jason, in a highly traumatic and arguably preventable way. Compared to his parents’ death, it was far more visceral and happened to him as an adult fully capable of processing what occurred.
I’m sure some other folks here can come up with other recent events that might pop up in Bruce’s mind other than just Jason’s death.
Bruce is an effective compartmentalizer, but even the most seasoned PTSD pro needs time to repackage and quash traumatic memories.
If a writer or movie dove into Bruce’s mind right after Jason’s death and still went straight to the memory of his parents’ deaths (saved into his mind at a young age) I personally feel like they’re missing the point.

Sometimes I think about the intrinsically doomed tragedy of Lisa loving Taylor and frantically trying to prevent her self destruction by doing absolutely everything for her while refusing to let down her own walls, and when she is genuine and lets Taylor see through the facade it's not enough to keep her and she still leaves both times. Or I think about the unbreakable bond and trust between Rachel and Taylor where Taylor is the only one who tries to communicate properly with her and does so much to help to the point where Rachel would trust her with literally anything which means she trusts Taylor to have a plan even when Taylor's plan is to throw herself away. Or I think about Brian and Taylor's friendship and later relationship that happened because Brian needed some way to deal with the horror of what Bonesaw did without letting down his walls because if he stops appearing in control he'll crack and they just both tried and failed so hard to be normal, but if things went differently they could have been happy together. Or I think about Taylor and Alec and how Alec saw her as a good normal how Taylor never really understood him even at the end and didn't even like him because she can't acknowledge their similarities and maybe if things were different they could grow to understand each other a bit more. Or I think about Taylor and Aisha and how Aisha went from being a mischievous gremlin constantly to losing her best friend and then her brother and then she had to stand by Taylor and sing to her as she broke and faded as a person while fully knowing she was going to lose another friend and having that confirmed when Taylor seized her body and held a knife to her throat. And every time I think about all the tragedies of loving Taylor Hebert, the ways things could have gone differently and everyone could have been happy if things were tweaked in the slightest way, I remember the glory of fanfiction and bask in the knowledge that other people feel this and will write their own fics where the characters get a better ending, and life is good.
And then I go on AO3 and I remember that 35% of fanfic in this wretched fandom is alternate powers for someone named Taylor who definitely isn't acting like her, 18% is revenge fantasies against the bullies where Taylor is harsher to Sophia specifically hmmm I wonder why, 22% is Taylor in the most unrealistic sanitized relationship ever written where everyone is out of character and reading it feels like eating styrofoam, 13% is attempting to redeem Purity or Rune or someone else in the E88, 11% has Greg as a main character with epic gamer powers, and the remaining 1% is actually readable original fanfic. I'm so tired. Why are so so many people shipping some combination of Taylor, Victoria, and Amy. Who the fuck is writing Polysiders. Why is 80% of this written and read by people who haven't read Worm and smugly believe that the absolute garbage fanfics they've read are better because nothing bad happens. I'm going insane I can't take this.

OPERATION ICEBERG: THE TIER LIST
Tumblr media
THEORY:
Curtain of Light
TIER:
Fanfiction: These "theories" are nothing short of delusional fan-crafted fantasies, embarrassingly disconnected from any shred of textual reality.
[Tier list overview]
EVIDENCE:
Oh boy!
Tumblr media
First, let's outline the theory.
Please note, like any other fan theory, there are always minor differences of opinion. So, we'll cover the basics that most people seem to agree on.
Daenerys, Jon, and Tyrion are the three heads of the dragon.
To defeat the Others, they will each mount a dragon and travel as far north as possible, beyond a curtain of light, where they will encounter a Lovecraftian, apocalyptic dimension filled with all kinds of monsters.
While they are beyond this curtain of light, they will engage in life-affirming activities in the face of death. Some believe this could manifest as Tyrion learning to love himself, childbirth, or a sexual encounter between Jon and Daenerys.
They will then sacrifice themselves and their dragons to defeat the Others. Presumably, much will go up in flames.
Apparently, this epitomizes the theme of the human heart in conflict with itself and will serve as the conclusion of the story.
Tumblr media
Now, for the evidence...
Oops, there isn't any.
If you've ever had the privilege of reading someone discuss this theory, you'll have noticed a glaring lack of textual support. Nevertheless, I'll do my best to piece together a coherent argument for why this could happen.
(Honestly, I'm a bit bitter that I'm putting in more effort to prove this theory than anyone else has.)
What does it mean when something is Lovecraftian?
To borrow from dictionary.com, 'Lovecraftian' pertains to elements reminiscent of the works of fantasy and horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, especially those that depict monstrous, misshapen beings from other dimensions or universes.
George R. R. Martin, a fan of literature, incorporates numerous Lovecraftian references in his A Song of Ice and Fire series and its associated works.
Examples include:
Leng (Island): Inspired by Lovecraft's Plateau of Leng.
Sarnath (City): Likely inspired by the city of Sarnath in Lovecraft's "The Doom that Came to Sarnath."
Ib (Island/Civilization): Possibly a nod to Ib from "The Doom that Came to Sarnath."
K'dath in the Grey Waste: Inspired by Lovecraft's Kadath in the Cold Waste.
Church/Cult of Starry Wisdom: A probable reference to the same cult in Lovecraft's "The Haunter of the Dark."
Deep Ones: Likely inspired by the aquatic creatures in Lovecraft's "The Shadow over Innsmouth."
"What's dead may never die": Possibly inspired by Lovecraft's phrase "That is not dead which can eternal lie / And with strange eons even death may die."
The Drowned God: Possibly a nod to Lovecraft's Cthulhu.
Dagon: An Ironborn-associated name, also an ancient being in Lovecraft's lore.
The Black Goat of Qohor: Possibly a reference to Lovecraft's Shub-Niggurath, the "Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young."
N'Ghai and Nefer: Likely inspired by Lovecraft's N'Kai, an underground realm associated with Tsathoggua.
Are you noticing a pattern? These nods to Lovecraft are mostly found in peripheral settings, with minor association to the Ironborn. George tends to make a lot of references to all kinds of literature in a similar fashion.
I'd hesitate to jump to the conclusion that this implies the existence of a parallel universe with otherworldly monsters, accessible via a portal in the far north. But since this is appearing in the evidence section, I guess we'll do that anyway.
Moving on.
The words "curtain of light" appear in a Bran chapter. One time. In only this chapter.
Finally he looked north. He saw the Wall shining like blue crystal, and his bastard brother Jon sleeping alone in a cold bed, his skin growing pale and hard as the memory of all warmth fled from him. And he looked past the Wall, past endless forests cloaked in snow, past the frozen shore and the great blue-white rivers of ice and the dead plains where nothing grew or lived. North and north and north he looked, to the curtain of light at the end of the world, and then beyond that curtain. He looked deep into the heart of winter, and then he cried out, afraid, and the heat of his tears burned on his cheeks. Now you know, the crow whispered as it sat on his shoulder. Now you know why you must live. - Bran III, AGOT
Melisandre also references curtains, though they are clearly different curtains than Bran's curtains. Whatever, it's fine.
Shadows in the shape of skulls, skulls that turned to mist, bodies locked together in lust, writhing and rolling and clawing. Through curtains of fire great winged shadows wheeled against a hard blue sky. - Melisandre I, ADWD
x
The flames crackled softly, and in their crackling she heard the whispered name Jon Snow. His long face floated before her, limned in tongues of red and orange, appearing and disappearing again, a shadow half-seen behind a fluttering curtain. Now he was a man, now a wolf, now a man again. - Melisandre I, ADWD
There is a place called the Land of Always Winter. It's like the Arctic.
The icy trenches rose around them, knee high, then waist high, then higher than their heads. They were in the heart of Winterfell with the castle all around them, but no sign of it could be seen. They might have easily been lost amidst the Land of Always Winter, a thousand leagues beyond the Wall. - Theon I, ADWD
x
Yet no matter the truths of their arts, the children were led by their greenseers, and there is no doubt that they could once be found from the Lands of Always Winter to the shores of the Summer Sea. - The World of Ice and Fire—Ancient History: The Dawn Age
x
What is commonly accepted is that the Age of Heroes began with the Pact and extended through the thousands of years in which the First Men and the children lived in peace with one another. With so much land ceded to them, the First Men at last had room to increase. From the Land of Always Winter to the shores of the Summer Sea, the First Men ruled from their ringforts. - The World of Ice and Fire—Ancient History: The Age of Heroes
The Others are believed to originate from the Land of Always Winter, where, according to legend, you can also find spooky ice spiders.
However, I should mention, a detail that might be easily missed in the books is that they are currently at Hardhome and continue to press south towards the Wall.
Yet there are other tales—harder to credit and yet more central to the old histories—about creatures known as the Others. According to these tales, they came from the frozen Land of Always Winter, bringing the cold and darkness with them as they sought to extinguish all light and warmth. The tales go on to say they rode monstrous ice spiders and the horses of the dead, resurrected to serve them, just as they resurrected dead men to fight on their behalf. - The World of Ice and Fire—Ancient History: The Long Night
In 2012, George confirmed that future books would explore further and further north. No shit, you don't say. I wonder if Bran's journey through history, where we learn more about the origins of the Others, has anything to do with that.
"And what lies really north in my books—we haven't explored that yet, but we will in the last two books." - George R. R. Martin
Bran uses the common metaphor "the heart of _____ (winter)" in the same passage that the curtain of light appears. Later, in another book, Daenerys enters the House of the Undying, where she encounters blue figures reminiscent of the Others. There, she finds a literal blue heart that appears to be their life force. Drogon eats it. Together, these things might suggest that there is a literal blue heart beyond a portal that needs to be set on fire to defeat the Others.
Also, another time, Theon stands in the middle of Winterfell and uses the same "the heart of" metaphor (common phrase found throughout the series). Shortly after, he references the Land of Always Winter, so I thought I would throw it in to be generous.
He looked deep into the heart of winter, and then he cried out, afraid, and the heat of his tears burned on his cheeks. - Bran III, AGOT
x
They were in the heart of Winterfell with the castle all around them, but no sign of it could be seen. They might have easily been lost amidst the Land of Always Winter, a thousand leagues beyond the Wall. - Theon I, ADWD
x
A long stone table filled this room. Above it floated a human heart, swollen and blue with corruption, yet still alive. It beat, a deep ponderous throb of sound, and each pulse sent out a wash of indigo light. The figures around the table were no more than blue shadows. As Dany walked to the empty chair at the foot of the table, they did not stir, nor speak, nor turn to face her. There was no sound but the slow, deep beat of the rotting heart. [...] Through the indigo murk, she could make out the wizened features of the Undying One to her right, an old old man, wrinkled and hairless. His flesh was a ripe violet-blue, his lips and nails bluer still, so dark they were almost black. Even the whites of his eyes were blue. They stared unseeing at the ancient woman on the opposite side of the table, whose gown of pale silk had rotted on her body. One withered breast was left bare in the Qartheen manner, to show a pointed blue nipple hard as leather. She is not breathing. Dany listened to the silence. None of them are breathing, and they do not move, and those eyes see nothing. Could it be that the Undying Ones were dead? [...] Then indigo turned to orange, and whispers turned to screams. Her heart was pounding, racing, the hands and mouths were gone, heat washed over her skin, and Dany blinked at a sudden glare. Perched above her, the dragon spread his wings and tore at the terrible dark heart, ripping the rotten flesh to ribbons, and when his head snapped forward, fire flew from his open jaws, bright and hot. - Daenerys IV, ACOK
x
Only its eyes lived. Bright blue, just as Jon said. They shone like frozen stars.
[...]
When he opened his eyes the Other's armor was running down its legs in rivulets as pale blue blood hissed and steamed around the black dragonglass dagger in its throat. - Samwell I, ASOS
If you cherry-pick through the text and remove all context, you might be able to piece together a few sentences suggesting that life and love will defeat the Others and that a great self-sacrifice is imminent.
The man looked over at the woman. "The things I do for love," he said with loathing. - Bran II, AGOT
x
We are only human, and the gods have fashioned us for love. That is our great glory, and our great tragedy. - Jon VIII, AGOT
x
"Sansa, permit me to share a bit of womanly wisdom with you on this very special day. Love is poison. A sweet poison, yes, but it will kill you all the same." - Sansa IV, ACOK
x
"You're mine," she whispered. "Mine, as I'm yours. And if we die, we die. All men must die, Jon Snow. But first we'll live." - Jon V, ASOS
x
Someone threw a stone, and when Dany looked, her shoulder was torn and bloody. "No," she wept, "no, please, stop it, it's too high, the price is too high." More stones came flying. - Daenerys VIII, AGOT
x
"You are a boy of fourteen," Benjen said. "Not a man, not yet. Until you have known a woman, you cannot understand what you would be giving up." "I don't care about that!" Jon said hotly. "You might, if you knew what it meant," Benjen said. "If you knew what the oath would cost you, you might be less eager to pay the price, son." - Jon I, AGOT
Daenerys is convinced that there will be three heads of the dragon, and let me tell you, that girl's expectations are always fulfilled.
"If you were grown," she told Drogon, scratching him between the horns, "I'd fly you over the walls and melt that harpy down to slag." But it would be years before her dragons were large enough to ride. And when they are, who shall ride them? The dragon has three heads, but I have only one. She thought of Daario. If ever there was a man who could rape a woman with his eyes . . . - Daenerys V, ASOS
If the author leads you to believe that something will happen, it must be true.
Lastly, I should mention that there are vague references suggesting that George has written other stories with events and themes similar to this proposed ending. However, I can't verify these claims, and unsurprisingly, the works in question are never cited.
Well, that was it.
Say what you will about the "Daario is Euron" theorists, but at least they attempt to back up their crazy idea with actual text from the books.
COUNTER-EVIDENCE:
To put it bluntly, this theory has no basis—no textual support, no historical parallels, no evidence in the companion books, no prophetic visions, no dreams, no myths, no legends, no similarities to the television show, and no foreshadowing to speak of. It is entirely made up, with only a few words from the text as its foundation.
Does that sound like George R. R. Martin to you?
That said, now that I’ve realized his three-fold revelation strategy, I see it in play almost every time. The first, subtle hint for the really astute readers, followed later by the more blatant hint for the less attentive, followed by just spelling it out for everyone else. It’s a brilliant strategy, and highly effective. - Anne Groell, George R. R. Martin's editor
A Song of Ice and Fire is about the people of Westeros putting aside their petty differences and uniting against two existential threats: ice, represented by the Others, and fire, represented by Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons. It's not a story about fire defeating ice.
Well, of course, the two outlying ones — the things going on north of the Wall, and then there is Targaryen on the other continent with her dragons — are of course the ice and fire of the title, "A Song of Ice and Fire." The central stuff — the stuff that's happening in the middle, in King's Landing, the capital of the seven kingdoms — is much more based on historical events, historical fiction. It's loosely drawn from the Wars of the Roses and some of the other conflicts around the 100 Years' War, although, of course, with a fantasy twist. You know, one of the dynamics I started with, there was the sense of people being so consumed by their petty struggles for power within the seven kingdoms, within King's Landing — who's going to be king? Who's going to be on the Small Council? Who's going to determine the policies? — that they're blind to the much greater and more dangerous threats that are happening far away on the periphery of their kingdoms. - George R. R. Martin
x
Ice and fire of course are also opposites, they're a duality and there's a lot in my books that are about duality. Certainly the religion of Melisandre, one of the most important characters, I think is basically a dualist religion with the premise that there are two gods. It's somewhat based on Zoroastrianism, and a little bit based on Catharism, Albigenses heresy who I know had some roots here in Spain once upon a time, before they were all killed. The idea of a world divided between good and evil, war between the two, which is so basic to so many fantasy starting with Tolkien, but much more so in the case of Tolkien imitators, was something that I wanted to recast and think about and maybe subvert a little. But I'm still using kind of the language of it, and some of the symbols associated with it. So all of these are grist for the mill, it's not something as simple as saying ice is this and fire is that. They're both many things. And one of the most important things is that both of them, ice and fire will kill you dead. So they're both dangerous in their own ways, hate, love, desire, coldness, they can both be deadly. - George R. R. Martin
x
While the lion of Lannister and the direwolf of Stark snarl and scrap, however, a second and greater threat takes shape across the narrow sea, where the Dothraki horselords mass their barbarian hordes for a great invasion of the Seven Kingdoms, led by the fierce and beautiful Daenerys Stormborn, the last of the Targaryen dragonlords. The Dothraki invasion will be the central story of my second volume, A Dance with Dragons. The greatest danger of all, however, comes from the north, from the icy wastes beyond the Wall, where half-forgotten demons out of legend, the inhuman others, raise cold legions of the undead and the neverborn and prepare to ride down on the winds of winter to extinguish everything that we would call "life." - The Original Outline
x
I have tried to make it explicit in the novels that the dragons are destructive forces, and Dany (Daenerys Targaryen) has found that out as she tried to rule the city of Meereen and be queen there.
She has the power to destroy, she can wipe out entire cities, and we certainly see that in 'Fire and Blood,' we see the dragons wiping out entire armies, wiping out towns and cities, destroying them, but that doesn't necessarily enable you to rule — it just enables you to destroy. - George R. R. Martin
In the established lore of A Song of Ice and Fire, dragons can't cross the Wall and dislike cold and wet weather. How exactly will they get to this Lovecraftian Land of Always Winter, and how will they be of any use in that climate?
The men of the Night's Watch were as thunderstruck by the queen's dragon as the people of White Harbor had been, though the queen herself noted that Silverwing "does not like this Wall." Though it was summer and the Wall was weeping, the chill of the ice could still be felt whenever the wind blew, and every gust would make the dragon hiss and snap. "Thrice I flew Silverwing high above Castle Black, and thrice I tried to take her north beyond the Wall," Alysanne wrote to Jaehaerys, "but every time she veered back south again and refused to go. Never before has she refused to take me where I wished to go. I laughed about it when I came down again, so the black brothers would not realize anything was amiss, but it troubled me then and it troubles me still." - Fire & Blood: Jaehaerys and Alysanne—Their Triumphs and Tragedies
x
Autumn was well advanced when the Prince of Dragonstone came to Winterfell. The snows lay deep upon the ground, a cold wind was howling from the north, and Lord Stark was in the midst of his preparations for the coming winter, yet he gave Jacaerys a warm welcome. Snow and ice and cold made Vermax ill-tempered, it is said, so the prince did not linger long amongst the northmen, but many a curious tale came out of that short sojourn. - Fire & Blood: the Dying of the Dragons—A Son for a Son
x
The big man looked out toward the terrace. "I knew it would rain," he said in a gloomy tone. "My bones were aching last night. They always ache before it rains. The dragons won't like this. Fire and water don't mix, and that's a fact. You get a good cookfire lit, blazing away nice, then it starts to piss down rain and next thing your wood is sodden and your flames are dead." - The Dragontamer, ADWD
x
He saw no sign of dragons, but he had not expected to. The dragons did not like the rain. - The Queen's Hand, ADWD

(bonus, for laughs:)
"The things…Mother have mercy, I do not know how to speak of them…they were…worms with faces…snakes with hands…twisting, slimy, unspeakable things that seemed to writhe and pulse and squirm as they came bursting from her [Aerea Targaryen] flesh. Some were no bigger than my little finger, but one at least was as long as my arm…oh, Warrior protect me, the sounds they made…" "They died, though. I must remember that, cling to that. Whatever they might have been, they were creatures of heat and fire, and they did not love the ice, oh no. One after another they thrashed and writhed and died before my eyes, thank the Seven. I will not presume to give them names…they were horrors." - Fire & Blood: Jaehaerys and Alysanne—Their Triumphs and Tragedies
House Targaryen and their dragons played no role in the previous Long Night.
How the Long Night came to an end is a matter of legend, as all such matters of the distant past have become. In the North, they tell of a last hero who sought out the intercession of the children of the forest, his companions abandoning him or dying one by one as they faced ravenous giants, cold servants, and the Others themselves. Alone he finally reached the children, despite the efforts of the white walkers, and all the tales agree this was a turning point. Thanks to the children, the first men of the Night's Watch banded together and were able to fight—and win—the Battle for the Dawn: the last battle that broke the endless winter and sent the Others fleeing to the icy north. Now, six thousand years later (or eight thousand as True History puts forward), the Wall made to defend the realms of men is still manned by the sworn brothers of the Night's Watch, and neither the Others nor the children have been seen in many centuries. - The World of Ice and Fire—Ancient History: The Long Night
x
The Targaryens were of pure Valyrian blood, dragonlords of ancient lineage. Twelve years before the Doom of Valyria (114 BC), Aenar Targaryen sold his holdings in the Freehold and the Lands of the Long Summer and moved with all his wives, wealth, slaves, dragons, siblings, kin, and children to Dragonstone, a bleak island citadel beneath a smoking mountain in the narrow sea. - The World of Ice and Fire—The Reign of the Dragons: The Conquest
Bran's curtain of light is simply a reference to the aurora borealis. For the love of christ, it's not a portal to another dimension.
North and north and north he looked, to the curtain of light at the end of the world, and then beyond that curtain. - Bran III, AGOT
x
Sailors, by nature a gullible and superstitious lot, as fond of their fancies as singers, tell many tales of these frigid northern waters. They speak of queer lights shimmering in the sky, where the demon mother of the ice giants dances eternally through the night, seeking to lure men northward to their doom. - The World of Ice and Fire—Beyond the Free Cities: The Shivering Sea

Speaking of Bran, why isn't he central to this theory? Didn't that sentence appear in his chapter? What is Arya up to? Where is Sansa? Why are the Starks, who are the central characters of this series, taking a backseat in their own conflict, which is unfolding in their own backyard?
(Not to mention the Night's Watch, the wildlings, the northerners, and the children of the forest—you know, the people who are actually integral to this storyline.)
Yeah, the children were always at the heart of this. The Stark children, in particular, were always very central. Bran is the first viewpoint character that we meet, and then we meet Jon and Sansa and Arya and the rest of them. It was always my intention to do that. - George R. R. Martin
x
Whenever I propose analogies like that, fans jump in with their own ideas, but it depends on what team you root for. To me, the Starks are heroes, so they would be the Giants. - George R. R. Martin
It's going to be a pact facilitated by Bran.
What is commonly accepted is that the Age of Heroes began with the Pact and extended through the thousands of years in which the First Men and the children lived in peace with one another. - The World of Ice and Fire—Ancient History: The Age of Heroes
x
Regardless, the children of the forest fought as fiercely as the First Men to defend their lives. Inexorably, the war ground on across generations, until at last the children understood that they could not win. The First Men, perhaps tired of war, also wished to see an end to the fighting. The wisest of both races prevailed, and the chief heroes and rulers of both sides met upon the isle in the Gods Eye to form the Pact. - The World of Ice and Fire—Ancient History: The Coming of First Men
x
According to these tales, the return of the sun came only when a hero convinced Mother Rhoyne's many children—lesser gods such as the Crab King and the Old Man of the River—to put aside their bickering and join together to sing a secret song that brought back the day. - The World of Ice and Fire—Ancient History: The Long Night

Tyrion Lannister is not a Targaryen; he is not one of the three heads of the dragon. He is the malevolent, vindictive son of Tywin Lannister. He rapes women, he kills women, he marries child hostages to acquire their castles, he will be complicit in the death of potentially hundreds of thousands of people, and he isn't getting anything remotely resembling a heroic ending.
Jaime kissed her cheek. "He left a son." "Aye, he did. That is what I fear the most, in truth." That was a queer remark. "Why should you fear?" "Jaime," she said, tugging on his ear, "sweetling, I have known you since you were a babe at Joanna's breast. You smile like Gerion and fight like Tyg, and there's some of Kevan in you, else you would not wear that cloak . . . but Tyrion is Tywin's son, not you. I said so once to your father's face, and he would not speak to me for half a year. Men are such thundering great fools. Even the sort who come along once in a thousand years." - Jaime V, AFFC
Daenerys and her dragons represent one of the two principal threats in the narrative. Azor Ahai is a misinterpreted prophecy that is intended as a warning, not as the foretelling of a hero.
Since the first book, her sole objective has been to rule foreign lands seized through force. She exploits slaves, consistently engages in brutal acts of violence, and leaves devastation wherever she sets foot. She will intentionally burn King's Landing to the ground, and then she'll be stabbed to death.
No. You are the blood of the dragon. The whispering was growing fainter, as if Ser Jorah were falling farther behind. Dragons plant no trees. Remember that. Remember who you are, what you were made to be. Remember your words. "Fire and Blood," Daenerys told the swaying grass. - Daenerys X, ADWD
The idea that Daenerys, Jon, and Tyrion will love themselves or each other, either physically or emotionally, and then collectively sacrifice themselves, is the dumbest climax anyone has ever conceived. You forfeit the right to ever complain about the show if this is what you thought should happen.
Finally, please remember that, by default, the original creators of this theory are always wrong about everything.
STUMPY'S THOUGHTS:
You might be asking yourselves, "How do we distinguish between joke and fanfiction theories?"
I'll tell you. Both are equally absurd, but the fanfiction tier has the unique quality of making you feel like you're reading a story written by a fanfic writer who's in denial about their aspirations to write fanfic.

I read a post where OP listed off all of the reasons why they don't see Mallyuu being possible in canon and believes that Malleus would be in a politically arranged marriage to a powerful fae of high status. I strongly disagree with OP. Even as someone who isn't a huge Malleus stan or has their Yuu shipped with him.
Okay, sure. If we're looking at that possibility from a strictly dogmatic historical and realistic lense, then I agree that statement would be correct. But we're not talking about the possibility of a real life marriage for a crown prince here, but about a fictional one in a Disney game. In that case, I think it's possible. Because...
I don't think game has such a law actually put in place. The game never mentioned it. The closest thing are that stupid council, who could be overthrown or put in their place, and Lilia saying that "Malleus can't enter a marriage lightly" during the Ghost Marriage event. (Far as I'm aware, I've tuned out most of Book 7 since it's mostly just one stupidly long flashback.)
If such a law did exist and Malleus was in a canonical arranged marriage, wouldn't the game have brought it up by now? (Yana sucks at foreshadowing and laying down this shit, but come on! That's too much even for her. xD)
Yuu brings some things to the table. They are human. Malleus marrying them would help with diplomatic relations between the fae and the humans. With how isolated the fae are in that world, they kinda need it. They also survived several overblots and would've saved Malleus' life, which is worth something.
I'm pretty sure that his grandmother could pull a Sultan and just change the law if such a thing is in place. She's one of the most powerful fae in the world, so what she says goes. She could easily put that council in their place if she must.
Dragon eggs in canon can only be hatched by true love, either platonic or romantic. (Even if I think that whole thing is silly, but that's beside the point.) If Malleus was in an arranged loveless marriage, he would never be able to produce an heir like the council wants, even if he has an AFAB/cis female partner. If they want any kids from him and he marries an AFAB person/cis female, it must be someone he loves like Yuu. If he marries someone AMAB or cis male, then he can just adopt or use a surrogate.
If we bring mythology/folklore into this, it's even more possible. The fae criteria for marriage is focused more on how talented and attractive the human partner is, that's it. There are plenty of stories where fae "spirit away" normal human women and men away to marry fae royalty. I imagine the fae in TWST are similar.
As for the life span thing, I think either Malleus will pull an Edward and let Yuu age normally or have the human partner drink fae aging potion. (I went with the latter in my own writing in a general sense. Again, shipping my Yuu with Jamil.)
Even if he was in one, he would find a way out of it. One of the biggest tropes that the Disney brand stands for is "true love conquers all". While the form of that love changes, that idea remains the same. The game shattering that by making Malleus be doomed to be in a loveless arranged marriage forever would go against what the brand stands for, so it seems highly unlikely. The fact that the game is also tapping into the otome market makes it even less so.
So, yeah. While I don't think MallYuu will ever be canon, I think a union between them is quite possible. It's fanfiction. Do whatever you want.

EVERYONE ELSE GO HOME YOU ARE MY FAVORITE PERSON IN THE ENTIRE WORLD FOR THE NEXT HOW EVER LONG THIS TAKES YOU TO READ. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS.
Ladies, gents, all of the above below and in between here is my rambles about new life sparrow because he has infested my mind like the skulk that infests him.
OK WERE DO I EVEN BEGIN WITH THIS GUY
Okokokokookokooo SO
We love a flawed character who has good intentions and a not so good way of showing them. he comes off as over enthusiastic and insensitive at first with his studies of hybrids. which is....just a tad bit relatable as someone often seen as energetic i can be too much for people at times so i get it.
Also everyone that drew the parallels between the way Sparrow talks about hybrids and O!Owen talked about demons is correct. it's terrifying. and if sparrow ever goes down that arc i will write incredibly angsty fanfiction about it and cry.
If you haven't already im going to point anyone reading this in the direction of my New life smp fic, Storming sacrifices on ao3 by Salty_R3mix cause thats where a lot of this next part comes from.
i head cannon that on New life when players die/switch hybrids they have to fall into a coma like state to do so and it takes time in between those shifts. Sparrow is on the longer side of these shifts for the more drastic the change the longer. to go from human to machine and then machine to skulk. thats like a solid month or two of their body just reforming and recreating. both times.
ALSO THE MOST RELATABLE THING ABOUT HIM.
HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE HUMAN.
WHICH IS JUST SO SAME BESTIE LIKE IF I LIVED IN A WORLD WHERE PEOPLE GET COOL TRAITS AND MAGICAL POWERS AND I WAS JUST BORING? YEAH I WOULD STUDY THEM AND TRY TO BE ONE TO! BOLD OF YOU TO ASSUME MY LOVE FOR FANTASY AND MAGIC ISN'T ALREADY BASED OFF THE NEED TO ESCAPE THE REAL WORLD BECAUSE IT SUCKS AND ITS BORING ANDGHYKULKNBVGVUKL
Anyway hes also insane. like, i get it. but also you could have found a away to make the process less painful im sure. hes smart. but his egarness got the best of him.
Anyway one of my favorite things to think about and debate is the 'chip' in his head. cause to me and my messed up little mind that has read well over at least 20 hours worth of sbi hybrid fanfiction in the summer of 2022. to me that just sounds like instinct. hot take but i don't think it was that big of a deal. what was wrong with the situation was prior to becoming a copper golem, Sparrow was human. if any other hybrid became a copper golem. they would be a lot less bothered by it. Sparrow was not used to that sheer level of inhumane instinct that it overwhelmed him and he just let it. t Not knowing what else to do. until eventually getting so lost and consumed by it that he had to you know....blend himself.
I miss him though. i like robots. and he was so fun to draw. i draw him all the time. just because the design i made for him is one of my favorite things ever.
OH AND SKULK SPARROW. THIS MAN. HE IS SO MESSED UP. THE NARRATIVE CAME CRASHING DOWN IN FRONT OF HIM AND SCREAMED THAT HE IS DOOMED.
I haven't seen a character so demised by the narrative that wasn't my own since outsiders Apo and maybeeeeeeee Celio form wtd. beside the point.
He is so overwhelmed and underwhelmed at the same time its iconic. one seconded hes lonely after copper literally abandoned any former relationships. the next he can hear things through the skulk. but then he brings a guy down. kills him. decides to build a gate. AGAIN. WE KNOW HOW THIS ENDED LAST TIME OWEN. WHEN HAVE GATES EVER WORKED IN YOUR FAVOR. i think it's just a cannon event for them at this point. Owen with gates and Apo with levers. (GUYS IM JOKING HERE. DON'T CARY THIS CURSE INTO PIRATES PLEASE LET THEM BE HAPPY FOR ONCE)
Ok yeah. Im really excited to watch skulk and other versions of sparrow later realize that no matter what monstrosity he ends up as. he'll never be as free as he was human again. Every hybrid comes with their own form of instinct that he will be forced to follow. some lighter than others. and hell, even if he does end up as human again the effects are still there forever lingering.
ALSO I AM HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH THE 'Wait? His name is sparrow but he still answers to Owen. this clearly must have lore implications.' PEOPLE. To anyone who has ever had that thought you are the best. i've read i think 3? fics based of it and oh my word im obsessed with that idea and the different takes on it.
and here is where i come to a close. do i have more to say? probably. but my hands hurt and my thoughts are slowing in pace so if you want more feel free to ask id be overjoyed but ask another day. i mean i didn't even touch on his interactions with the other players.
i am so clearly sane and stable about this character btw. i don't know what made you think otherwise.

Sorry if you've already touched on this, but what are your thoughts about the discourse/discussion about Tim in the comics and Tim from the lens of A03/fan fiction?
For example, I hear a lot from old comic fans about how the series with Tim dating Bernard was doomed to fail bc 'the writer wrote him like her fanfiction version of Tim and not the real character'. There was a lot of discourse with canonical announcing Tim as queer, and that's kinda all these older comic book fans seem to keep coming back to. Idk, there just kinda seems to be an underlying feeling of misogyny towards the female writers and anti lgtbq vibes that it's hard to hear like a real arguement against the series.
I guess as a long time a03/Fandom person, I'm so used to just creating another little reality for the things I disagree or want to explore with a character, that it's strange to see people so upset that Canon doesn't flow the way the want.
it's no problem!! and i haven't really touched on the newer comics all that much mostly because i also don't particularly like them, not for any specific reason-they're decent enough but i don't really think they're 'tim'-but i do know what you're talking about. on twitter and tumblr i see a lot of different takes regarding tim and how he's written in this newer robin series.
for starters: i get what you're talking about where criticism of the comics might partly because of anti-lgbt attitude. especially since tim getting confirmed to be bisexual made A LOT of people mad (including ppl who arent homophobic but are mad that it wasn't THEIR favorite robin who got confirmed queer like dick, jason, or damian etc). comic bros and even casual comic fans who had never even heard of tim or even gave a shit about him were now furious. and while there might be ppl with genuine critiques- some of hatred of the way tim is written in the newer comics you really have to take it with a grain of salt because it very well could be comic bros hating because "robin isn't gay".
same with the writer, meghan fitzmartin. in general, women DO have an uphill battle when it comes to working in comics because it is very male dominated. and it's no secret that a lot of comic fans are opposed to women writing in comics. so misogyny, and even jealousy also plays a role with how much criticism is ACTUALLY warranted. but that doesn't mean a woman in comics isn't allowed to be criticized if they do a bad job or do a botched execution when their job is supposed to be making good, enjoyable, stories that do justice to the characters. i do think meghan may have some decentish ideas but whether she genuinely has the writing chops to deliver on those big ideas is well...iffy. but then again i genuinely don't keep tabs on comic writers or they're projects so maybe that will change.
when it comes to the critique of tim being written like a "fanfiction" version and not a "real" version of him i do see what they mean.
when I think of fanon tim I think of all the mischaracterizations that have been popularized. a coffee obsessed gremlin that doesn't sleep who is deeply insecure and agonizes over his place in the family, thinking he doesn't belong. people LIKE that tim is portrayed like that (in fanfiction) otherwise that characterization wouldn't be so pervasive in fics (there's also the possibility that a lot of ff writers DON'T know any better because many don't read comics but they do read fics and so they base their portrayals solely off what they read in fics resulting in this racoon eyed, coffee loving character who they believe to be an actual portrayal when it's really just someone's idea/exaggerated interpretation of tim).
i really don't see a lot of that in meghan's writing, the issues with tim's writing with her are different. if anything WFA is the one that really have the 'written as a ff character' vibe. but that series is also SUPPOSED to be deeply unserious as a fun slice of life universe where nothing goes wrong for anyone ever as a soothing balm for the oftentimes depressing stories in batman comics.
but in meghan's writing I also don't see a lot of what i consider to be core tim values. is she the best writer for tim? no i don't really think so. but there is a certain degree of understanding for his character. I see the comics and I can recognize that it's tim. so it's not offensively OC.
a lot of complaints seem to stem from his relationship with bernard being too much of a focus. people say how tim does too much thinking about him when...he was a lot worse in the 90s with steph. I remember getting so irritated when entire comics of robin would be narrated by steph or about her, i'd be like 'I want to read about ROBIN and his adventures, not steph, why is she even relevant?'. but tim's relationships to other people are a core part about him so you just have to take it.
the part that i think is justified in critique is in talking about whether her writing of bernard dowd is good. that is a much easier thing to answer. and its that its not good writing. in fact it's a pretty bad, inaccurate portrayal of him given how he was written when we first knew him. he's sort of been...sanded down? kind of remade into some new, almost unrecognizable character that fits into what she believes would be a nice, wholesome, gay partner for tim. which is an issue for me because we have seen and know what tim is like in relationships. tim had tension with, disagreed with, got annoyed with, fought and argued with his other partners like stephanie and ariana. but he also enjoyed himself and was happy with them. there was a balance there of good and bad because tim's unique situation of being robin made it so there had to be good and bad. with bernard it's all very passive and easy. they don't argue, they don't really fight, or have any struggles in their relationship when trying determine compatibility. avoiding tension in the relationship when tim has a track record of it makes it almost seem like she's afraid of the risk of portraying a gay relationship in anything less than a golden light. which is not good writing. BUT it is also very NEW. so maybe that will change (but there's a similar problem with jon kent and his bf so idk)? i personally believe kon would've been a more ideal partner with their shared history, chemistry, tension, the fact that fans have wanted it for decades, and the fact that it would've been such a good addition to the arc of self acceptance for kon's character. and many of the issues that tim being with bernard wouldn't be a thing because tim and kon famously don't see eye to eye 100 percent of the time and so their relationship would struggle and grow as they go from friends to romantic partners.
ultimately in my opinion to write a truly good tim drake you need to be able to accurately portray the thing that made him such a great robin: his heart of gold. tim cares about doing the right thing SO much. he cares about helping people. he's not some cold, unfeeling calculated computer who uses people as pawns and abandons his morals at the slightest inconvenience or seduction to the 'dark side'. and he's not some coffee drinking hacker man that is 20 steps ahead and smug about it.
tim worries about people, he's upset at injustice, feels guilt at not being able to save people, is judgy, sometimes a brat, sarcastic, gets angry at people for throwing their lives away, gets very invested in things that catch his interest, is too curious for his own good, nosy. he lies through his teeth and then bats his eyes in sweet as pie innocence. will think VERY rude thoughts about people but will bite his tongue because he's a nice boy👼 but sometimes things slip out. he is somehow simultaneously able to be the 🥺 and 😈 emoji at the same time. his odds of making bad decisions increase by 100 fold if in the company of other stupid teenagers.
now i write tim as a very exaggerated version of that core self. that's what a lot of ff authors do. they choose a handful of traits they like best about him and spin entire fics about it. i don't think writing tim as a fanfiction version of himself is a bad thing because some fanfic is genuinely better than the source material and that comes from being very good at understanding the character. the tim of today can't be written the same way he was in his golden age, the 90s, because a lot of his struggles and hurdles that he dealt with in those comics are over. they're done. tim can't be 30 years old and still wondering if he's doing a shit job as robin. tim IS a good robin and he should be able to acknowledge that (funnily enough one of his clear acknowledgements of that is often wiped away by fics- that being the titans tower scene where jason asks if tim thinks he's the better robin and tim, without hesitation, says yes) a lot of older fans are clinging to problems that tim has already resolved. he's not thirteen and insecure about his abilities. he's not on his first relationship with someone (but he is in his first relationship with a boy). he's not still learning how to navigate his relationship with batman and the rest of the family or struggling to come to terms with his civilian and caped life. do some of those things still trouble him on occasion? yes but they're not the main focus anymore.
tim has to have new problems, new challenges, new growth.
i had some hope for new tim comics.
would i like to have seen more tim centric material or at least good stories. and often times in the new tim comics tim was exactly the same at the end of the issue as he was at the beginning. tim struggling with his identity is something that made an appearance in 90s comics a lot but I think for the newer ones that it would've been better received/more interesting if it were...written better?
idk. i don't know a single comic fan that loved every detail of their fav's comics. was it the best run? no. but it was okay enough i guess. it was lukewarm, not standing ovation worthy but also nobody should be throwing tomatoes at the performers either, it just earned a polite clap of acknowledgement which i don't think is a very bad thing but still i hope we get something better!

STEDDIE FANFICTION REC MASTERPOST PT. 6
Red Eye by Alinafewwords, 65 k, teen “Can I get a hot, medium dirty chai?” “How dirty do you want it?” “Excuse me?” Steve Harrington is a struggling college student. Eddie Munson is a hot barista. Somehow things will work out.
Black Out Days (Fairground Nights) by OonionChiver, 139.1 k, explicit ‘I think,’ Steve says slowly, reaches for Eddie’s abandoned, untouched beers. ‘You don’t know me very well.’ ‘I don’t know you at all, man. I don’t really want to.’ Steve’s throat works. It’s subtle, but Eddie sees it. He hides it with a swig of beer, but when he sets it down, his smile isn’t quite so bright. Twice as sharp, though. ‘The self-centred asshole who can only be decent to a single human being, I get it. It works for you.’ Then he takes a thick, heavy breath. The alcohol is hitting him, Eddie can tell. ‘And I am being civil. I’m here, aren’t I? You have any idea how hard it is for me to be here?’ ‘In a bar?’ Steve doesn’t answer.
It’ll be Fine by Dusk Light (I’m Telling You, Baby) by Anonymous, 14k, teen The van is running, Steve realizes, and Eddie wouldn’t start it if he was just coming out to smoke. It sobers him up almost immediately. “You leaving?” Eddie gives him a smile, sad around the edges where it reaches his eyes, says, “Yeah,” and Steve knows he doesn’t just mean for tonight.
This is Your Home. These Are Your People. by Oaeas, 21.4 k, teen “Your heart’s racing,” Steve noted, quietly. Eddie laughed. It was more of a shaky exhale, lashes fluttering as he struggled to keep his composure. “Stevie,” he whispered, fingers cradling Steve’s side like he was precious. “Yeah, no fucking shit.”
Too Good to be True by Ayes, 45.3 k, explicit When Eddie sees Steve in a gay bar, he decides to seduce him and break his heart as revenge for what an asshole Steve was in high school. Steve, who was only at the bar to support Robin, is taken aback by the attention but finds himself under Eddie’s spell. And Eddie, to his growing unease, discovers that Steve Harrington is actually everything he’s ever wanted.
Sanctuary by SpicedSage, 47.5 k, explicit After Steve Harrington goes missing, Eddie Munson gets exposed to the secret dangers of Hawkins, Indiana in 1985 instead of 1986. Will a different first meeting lead to a change in his fate?
Dirtybadwronggood by 3MinsOver, 8.3k explicit Steve doesn't like Eddie Munson. He's a loud, obnoxious freak. But there's something about him he just can't shake. Maybe Eddie can fuck it out of him.
Everything is Doomed; Nothing Will be Spared by 4MinsOver, 10.3 k, explicit Post vecna-battle, eddie is surprised by a late-night visitor who's looking for comfort in all the wrong places.
Throw Me One by Adure, 41.9 k, explicit Steve and Eddie are friends with benefits with the important caveat - no kissing, ever, under any circumstances; modern AU
Every Ribbon That You Used to Tie Yourself to Me by Judasofsuburbia, 63.7 k, mature “You keep telling yourself that, Eds." “Eds?” “Cute, isn’t it?” Eddie’s breath stops and his chest tightens. He’s never had a friend give him a nickname before. It is cute, which is not cool to say, so of course, Eddie spits out, “No.” Steve smiles and leans forward right into Eddie’s ear. He whispers, “You’ll get used to it.” or: it's summer 1981 and wayne munson has sent a fourteen-year-old eddie to camp in hopes that he can exist like a regular kid for once. eddie meets steve harrington on the bus and the two start an unlikely friendship. hawkins high doesn't know how to deal with that. a supercut into eddie's high school years and how steve continues to orbit him whether he wants him to or not.
Lovesick in Loch Nora by Redoaktree, 62.6 k, mature Even though Eddie's name has been cleared legally, he's still very much on trial in the court of public opinion. Dealing drugs isn't a lucrative occupation anymore, and getting a legitimate job in a town who still considers him a killer isn't much of an option, either. Eddie is beginning to think skipping town and starting over somewhere no one knows his name is the only chance he has left. Steve has another idea. AKA: Steve gets Eddie a job as an anonymous columnist at a local newspaper.
STEVE'S FIRST BRUISE by Cairparavels, 47.2 k, not rated eddie’s new roommate sure does get into a lot of fights. a spider-man!steve story. or 6 bruises of steve’s + 1 of eddie’s.

Questionable Beast Wars Headcanons
-Optimus Primal isn't usually that into Earth culture, but sometimes Dinobot shows him bits of old human media he ends up really liking. Mostly old Earth songs from just before the war: the Beach Boys, the Beatles, and, coincidentally, the Monkees. He just really appreciates the chill, fun vibe.
-Rattrap and Rhinox like making silly little romhacks for old videogames. Mortal Kombat and DOOM are their favorites because the old basic sprites make alterations really easy, but no game is immune to Rattrap replacing the final boss with mildly insulting scans of Megatron.
-Cheetor is gay, but he hasn't figured it out yet. His crush on Blackarachnia was 100% comphet.
-Dinobot takes Cheetor out hunting every week. They're both carnivores, and their beast mode programming makes them kind of antsy if they don't chase something down, and it keeps morale high for the whole team if everyone has extra rations. Dinobot uses it as an opportunity to teach Cheetor more advanced battle tactics. Cheetor just likes getting out of the base and doing awesome shit with the guy he thinks of as a cool older brother.
-Rhinox actually knew Optimus way before they both joined up for the exploration crew. They dated for like a month, decided they were better as friends, and stayed amicable afterwards.
-Rattrap had a job as a bartender twice back on Cybertron before he got fired for drinking on the job from the first time, and getting into a fight with one of the patrons the second time. He still knows how to make most of the cocktails, including some he made up himself that are practically stronger than paint thinner.
-Megatron met Dinobot through a theatre troupe they'd both recently joined. They did two shows together: Hamlet, and Macbeth. Through the whole production of both, Megatron had been slowly converting Dinobot into more and more of a radical, convincing him that direct, brutal action was the only option to restore the Predacons to glory, and that the best action would be to join his crew and steal the Golden Disc. As the final showing of Macbeth ended, and the curtain fell, Dinobot finally agreed to go with him.
-Skorponok was not in the theatre troupe, he was one of Megatron's coworkers at their day job, working at an energon refinery, but he bought tickets to every show Megatron put on.
-Waspinator was the only Predacon on the Darksyde that had been to Earth before the incident with the transwarp engine. He lived there for about a year in a small backwater Predacon town to get away from the big city on Cybertron. He subsequently decided he hated it because redneck Predacons tend to shoot first and ask questions later. He returned to Cybertron with the hopes that he'd get shot less, (those hopes were dashed), but his time on Earth was what let him realize where he really was after the Vok incident so quickly.
-Tarantulas writes fanfiction about his coworkers and all of it is really, really dark and equally gross. Things that would get him sent straight to HR and subsequently fired if the Preds HAD an HR department. The one time Dinobot found it purely on accident, he was caught trying to bleach his optics right after.
-Terrorsaur only joined up with Megatron because he thought it was a harem at first. He kinda thought he'd be drowning in bitches when they got off world, but he remains completely bitchless.
-Skorponok and Terrorsaur didn't actually die in the lava pit, they crawled out as transmetals about 20 minutes after everyone had left, and, thinking everyone else had perished, kinda just started running and never looked back. Eventually after the war, they found Waspinator being worshipped by his army of fucked up protohumans and settled down together. They never left because beast machines didn't happen :)

About/Backstory
Czar is the first-born child of King Voskai and Queen Kaatrisa Agskaga. He was named after a powerful dragon, Szarrak, that lived alongside the Agskaga’s many centuries ago. His nesti (family) are a highly respected royal line of Naga’s/Nagi’s that dates to Draca Isla Pyramis, an ancient place where they and Dragon’s thrived before its doom. They are known for their amber lilies, a precious flower that holds healing properties and other usages.
The young prince usually finds himself relaxing among the trees (what little was on the isle he calls home), hidden away with a book in hand. When not reading or learning about legends and histories of old, he likes being at gatherings in the company of others (especially with the sapien women). He delights in showcasing his fire majic (magic) abilites as well as helping those stressed or lacking sleep through his hypnosis abilites.
With the unfortunate death of both parent’s during his teen years, he is the last of his reign to bare his father’s name and to the throne. In the meantime his uncle on his father's side has taken over responsibilities until his nephew is ready (which he isn't quite ready to take over the throne just yet).
Personality
Many have mistaken his kind as evilly sadistic. Not all are that way…at least from Czar’s point of view. Czar can be seen as an intimidating, mysterious royal at first glance. He shows his true self in his knowledge and interest about the world. Czar enjoys discussing legends of old and Zarth’s history with company.
The royal can be quite talkative at gala’s and other large speical occasions. There are times, however, he’d rather be alone in his study. Raised with good manners and always seems to be well-adjusted for a Naga, he still dabbles in his mischievous teasing ways.
Of all the Naga’s/Nagi’s that possess the ability of hypnosis, Szar despises those that use it for merciless, heartless purposes. He would rather use his ability to help those in need. Czar asks for consent for this reason, to make sure they feel safe with the charming prince that he is. Sometimes through his flirtation and teasing ways, it had always worked on the ladies he fancies…at times.
Abilities/Majic Status
Hypnosis – A unique ability that causes those to be in a state of consciousness and have them voluntarily lose action. Not many have this ability. Czar is the first in many centuries of his nesti to possess such ability, though he rarely ever uses it. (His eyes glow, like looking into a roaring fire).
Fire Maji – He can conjure, manipulate, and inflict damage through the element of fire and heat. Czar’s favorite ability is breathing out fire like those of dragons and conjuring a fire like whip. The crystal embedded within his left palm is oval red. *More information TBA*
Constriction – Like those of serpents large and small, his long body can wrap around enemies and tightly squeeze the life out of them. He also can climb up trees or buildings if nessesary.
Heightened Senses – As a Naga he has an excellent scent and eyesight compared to other races of Zarth.
Wardrobe Appearance
The Naga likes to show off his prized gold and rubies he has collected over the years. At times he wears his medium golden collar with rubies mixed with teal crystals. Along his arms he wears golden arm and wrist bands. He tends to wear two rings, both of which belonged to his parents. One is crimson red with gold and the other is teal with gold. He wears them on his right hand: one on his index and the other on his ring finger. On the other hand, he wears a golden serpent ring on his ring finger.
Upon his head he is sometimes seen wearing a gold circlet crown the small design of Agskaga’s amber lily symbol at the center.
He likes his selection of clothing soft and light. A lot of his fabrics are made of the finest silk and cotton on Zarth. Czar prefers to wear reds, blacks, yellows, oranges, whites and even just a little hint of teal in his fabrics. The prince often wears open shirts, long sleeve or short, attached with silky long or medium length drapes behind the back or to the side with beautiful intricate patterns (mostly floral, serpent, etc.). Along his hips he tends to wear a golden belt (large enough to cover his lower region) with chains and jewels.
When not seen around the public or with other nobility, Czar likes to be shirtless. Czar still wears his usual jewelry such as his arms bands, rings and the belt.
His long onyx hair is sometimes tied up as a loose ponytail with the front tied in a topknot. Some strains of his long hair still show on the side of his face when tied up. A lot of the times, however, his hair is usually down. Sometimes he will allow females (those that he fancies) to braid one strain of his hair. Many have complimented on how silky his hair is, given that he uses the best shampoos. Many ladies have described the smell of rose and lavender.
Weapons
The Naga often not carries weaponry around with him. Since he is a Fire Maji and uses majic, he doesn’t necessarily have any use for actual weapons. He has been trained though with using whips, swords, and daggers at his nesti’s palace. So if need be, he can easily pick up a sword while still performing fire majic on his enemies to protect the people he cares about.

This Week's Fighters...
Clover vs Undyne!
Conditions:
LV 20 Clover vs Undyne the Undying
Scenario:
The end of the genocide route to Undertale Yellow plays out the same as in canon, except Undyne is in the throne room when Clover confronts Asgore. Getting obliterated alongside the King, Undyne comes back as the Undying to keep Clover from stealing the human souls and dooming the Underground.
Analysis: Clover
A long time ago, humans and monsters lived together in harmony. But, one day, that peace was broken, and humanity launched a genocidal campaign against monster kind. Mankind sealed the monsters away behind a powerful magical barrier that could only be broken with the power of seven human souls.
These days, everyone that goes near Mt. Ebott tends to disappear. Five children have gone missing already, their souls harnessed so that monsterkind could break the barrier. Clover, a young child, a self made sheriff with a heart of gold, lept into the Underground to avenge the missing children and bring Justice to the Underground.
We already know how that ends. It doesn't matter whether Clover approaches the monsters they find with kindness or cruelty. They will end up the sixth soul in Asgore's keep all the same. Except for one timeline...
There is one version of this story where Clover survives. Where they bring justice to the souls of the dead. The Genocide Timeline. Let Justice Be Done.
In Clover's eyes, every monster that tries to stop them is complicate in Asgore's atrocities, punishable by death. They've traded in their trusty toy gun with a real six shooter, loaded up with Flowey's own Friendliness Pellets, allowing them to attack both body and soul. Just like Frisk, Clover can withstand magical attacks that damage both body and soul and can move fast enough to dodge lightning, bullets, and sound. Even Neutral Route Clover, who isn't even strong enough to scratch Asgore, is still fast enough to dodge his attacks for a time. Genocide Route Clover should be even faster.
When Clover's trusty side arm isn't enough, Clover can fire shots directly from their soul, to the point of being able to charge up the blast to completely vaporize their enemies. This laser has at times been strong enough to split the mechanical killing machine Axis clean in half and even vaporize Asgore himself in one shot.
This ability, like all of Clover's powers, is fueled entirely by their single minded pursuit of their brand of justice. When Axis reveals he was the one who killed the Blue Soul, Clover gains several levels through sheer force of rage and obliterates him in a single hit. Warped as their definition of Justice may be, it is genuine. Clover will allow fleeing or surrendering opponents to live, will not kill monsters who don't get in their way, and will even honor opponents they find respectable. When Starlo, sheriff of the Wild East, challenges Clover to a quick draw, Clover not only humors him, but has a chance to let Starlo get a shot off on them, just so he dies feeling like a hero.
Clover's sense of Justice is so strong it can allow them to read an opponent's memories. In the Neutral Route, Clover was able to fight Flowey to a stalemate as he tried to absorb their soul, forcing him to reset. A feat they'd replicate later in Undertale canon when Omega Flowey loses control of the human souls. But, this version of Clover takes it even further. After reaching Level 20, they're strong enough to override Flowey's determination entirely, stealing his ability to SAVE and LOAD the game.
Clover is, as a rule, generally much weaker than standard Undertale characters. The reason Flowey sent Clover on a roundabout trip through the Underground was because they simply couldn't survive against Undyne or other obstacles Frisk could beat with ease. Their True Pacifist final boss is weaker than Papyrus according to the check stats. Undertale absolutely clears the Undertale Yellow cast and it's not even close.
Flowey never considered they'd get any stronger than that. But through the power of LOVE, Determination, and, above all, Justice, Clover did, becoming more powerful than any of their counterparts in other timelines and obliterating Flowey mercilessly.
With nothing left in the Underground to stop them, Clover tanks Asgore's hit so hard his trident shatters, before vaporizing him along with most of the throne room. Justice is done. The past can rest. And with a sea of dust behind them, Clover walks out of the Underground with the other human souls.
Analysis: Undyne
Monsterkind has not seen the surface of the Earth in generations. Sealed away by mistrustful humans long ago, monsters now live beneath the surface of Mt. Ebott. With limited resources that will one day run dry, the monsters live a life without light and without hope.
The Underground needs a hero. Undyne, the Captain of the Royal Guard, is willing to step up to the challenge.
Inspired by heroes who served in the Human-Monster War, Undyne dedicated her life to training, hoping to claim the soul of the next human who fell Underground so that monsters can break the barrier and save themselves. And if she had to kill a child to do so, so be it. Monsters have suffered long enough.
Undyne, as Captain of the Royal Guard, is Natura one of the strongest monsters in the Underground, one of the few whose blows can stagger King Asgore himself. She can summon her spears to attack from any direction, even directly beneath the enemy's feet, and can circle around you to attack from the opposite direction they came from. Her magical spears do damage to both body and soul simultaneously, potentially even destroying your soul with one hit. Furthermore, Undyne can turn a foe's soul green, physically rooting them in place to keep her foe from evading or escaping her blows. Though, her sense of fair play does bite her here, as she has a tendency to provide her opponent with a shield to defend themselves with.
But, above all, Undyne's greatest strength is her determination. Her shear stubbornness rivals even that of other humans, allowing her to harness the spiritual essance of Determination in a way no other monster can. Regenerating from being split in half in a burst of desperate willpower to become the Undying.
As the Undying, Undyne is far and away the strongest being in the Underground, trumping even Asgore in sheer strength by a wide margin. Her attacks from every direction become nearly unavoidable and her sheer durability makes any fight with her a marathon.
The only problem is, it doesn't last forever. When Undyne reaches her limits in this form, she will begin to melt, as her body just cannot handle high concentrations of Determination like a human body can. As a monster, Undyne is extra vulnerable to attacks with a high killing intent, which Determination can't quite entirely negate. Against a human with greater Determination, her defeat is inevitable...
Luckily, if the Player has any conscience at all, that won't happen. If Frisk is allowed to show mercy, Undyne gets the chance to realize that not all humans are evil, setting aside her prejudice to help Frisk save the Underground from absolute destruction and break the barrier.
No matter your choices, Undyne will always be the Hero of the Underground.

youtube
Throwdown Breakdown:
You might've noticed that I was uncharacteristically light on calcs and numbers for this breakdown and that's ultimately because these two scale to around the same level of power. While Clover in most timelines is weaker than even Papyrus in a straight up fight, Genocide Clover is exponentially stronger than Asgore, just like the Undying, so stats should generally be about even here.
Undyne's attack style is completely unlike anything Clover's encountered before, being rooted in one place and forced to block instead of dodge. Keep in mind, Clover didn't even get a shield during their fight with Axis like they did in other timelines, so they're going to have a very rough time adapting on their first few attempts.
Clover's mind reading powers don't have much practical use here. If anything, they'd just give Undyne a buff by reminding her about what she's fighting for, making the fight even harder in the long term. On the other hand, Undyne's boisterous personality and tendency to be defiant to the end could cause the same problem. Any taunts about mankind being brought to justice or her jeering last words in the Genocide Route risk making Clover even stronger through sheer force of rage like Axis did, something Undyne can't risk.
That said, Clover has a lot more ways to attack than Frisk did, with several projectiles that could help wear down Undyne's durability, much as they did against a Determination boosted Martlet. And with free access to SAVE and LOAD, Clover's going to have as many tries as they need to bring down Undyne's bulky defenses.
Which brings us to the real deciding factor here. Who has more Determination? Or rather, can Undyne override Clover's Save and Load powers.
I don't believe that Clover, even in the Genocide route, has the same raw amount of Determination that Frisk just naturally has. Willing their soul back together or resurrecting Chara as their narrator through sheer determination are just feats that Clover hasn't replicated even at their best. Could Undyne in her Undying form override their Save File?
Likely... no. Firstly, Undyne doesn't seem to know that Save Files are even a thing, whereas Clover very much did when they overrode Flowey's saves. Secondly, we've never seen Determination amped Monsters use Determination like this. Only humans and soulless beings like Flowey. Given that Undyne, as powerful as she is, will eventually start melting from how incompatible her body is with Determination, it's entirely possible that she simply can't use Determination like this even without having to override the power from someone else. She's simply too incompatible with it.
Make no mistake, Undyne will put up one hell of a fight before going down. This is still Undyne we're talking about here. But with infinite retries, well... Clover's victory in inevitable.
This Throwdown's Winner is...

(Told from Aemond's POV!)
Aemond’s pov.
I lock the door after she is safely inside and keep my eye on my grandsire. He wanted to have a talk, he said. He insulted me before, in front of the girl. He is likely furious that I fed Luc to Vhagar. He has always been more of a diplomat, sending letters instead of poison. Mending bridges instead of breaking necks.
He sits on his horse and gives me a long, calculated glare when his eyes take me in. I keep unmoved and unfazed. I do not let myself be intimidated by him. I am no longer a child. ‘’You have killed Lucerys.’’ He speaks through his teeth.
I give a nod, remembering Luc's delicious screams as he was chewed up. I also remember his sister crying and weeping. That, too, was satisfying. ‘’I fed him to Vhagar.’’ In a way, I killed him, and in a way, I did not. He killed himself by not bending the knee. All the bastards did.
Ser Otto Hightower, the hand of the king, is very displeased with me. ‘’How can you be so stupid, so blind? You’ve only lost one eye!" I sigh. Otto orders the carriage to start riding, and I hear someone slam on the carriage door from inside out. I smirk softly. Tire yourself out, little princess. Make this easy for us.
Of course, my grandsire is worried about the princess injuring herself. ‘’Was that the princess? Is there anything in the carriage that may cause her harm?’’ He asks me, as if I am supposed to keep track of what goes in and out of that carriage. What do I look like, an underfed peasant who reeks of fleas?
Yet these are my soldiers, and I must ask them their questions. I do my duties no matter how unpleasant. ‘’I do not know. Ser Stone.’’ One of the Kings guards rides up to us and greets me with a respectful nod. ‘’Is there anything in the carriage that may serve as a weapon for the princess?’’ I ask him sharply.
He shakes his head. ‘’No. We do not keep weapons in the royal private carriage. The princess is safe and secure.’’
I feel my lips curl into a smirk. She won't be getting away this time. ‘’Good. That is exactly what I wanted to hear. You may go.’’ I tell him. He takes off, guarding the left side of the carriage where Maella is likely throwing a tantrum in.
My grandsire rides closer to me, hissing in my ear. ‘’You will doom us all. You are a Kinslayer now. Have you forgotten what happens to those who kill their relatives?’’ My grandsire is a sane man. He does not believe those tales either. But others do. Others who might be useful to us.
I become annoyed, however. A pitiful side effect of whenever I am challenged or tested by annoying creatures that are unworthy of being alive. I care for my grandsire and my family. That is true.
He is just annoying me right now. ‘’What were you going to do with Rhaenyra? Isn't she also a relative to me and Aegon and my mother? He would be a kinslayer too, would he have killed Rhaenyra.’’ I point that out with a smirk.
We ride closer and closer to the castle, and finally, the princess stops fighting, and the banging stops, followed by quiet little sniffs that bring me unspeakably much joy. ‘’It is no matter, grandsire. The brat is gone, and we have the princess. Rhaenyra’s only girl. She will offer us much to see Maella returned unharmed.’’ Rhaenyra is a mother. She will want her baby girl back. Especially since we killed her son. The Black Queen will be mourning and furious. She will demand her daughter back. And we will demand that she bend the knee.
My grandsire is not convinced. ‘’So you hope.’’ His body moves with a big sigh as our horses enter the good neighborhoods of King's Landing. Merchants and rich travelers scurry aside for the carriage.
There is no point in scowling. ‘’So I know.’’ I assure him. Now that we have the little princess, we must discuss as to what to do with the brat. There are options.
We can sell her to a foreign market as a slave or we can kill her, we can also consider publicly executing her...
I am curious what kind of humiliating, painful end my grandsire is planning for that brat. ‘’What are your plans with her, grandsire? Aegon will do as you advise him.’’ As he commands him, is more likely, but I hold my tongue for now.
He sighs briefly, forgetting how I failed him and the realm today for just a brief moment. ‘’The princess is very popular and well-loved within the kingdom.’’ I feel my brows rise in surprise. That brat, loved? Popular, even? I scowl. She is a princess, of course she is well loved. Unlike any of my siblings, the smallfolk hates me and Aegon. They only like Helaena because she is not a threat to anyone or anything.
I don’t mind it that I don’t have their love. Love is fickle. Fear? Fear is the only reliable source to make sure those peasants obey.
Otto continues. ‘’Your brother’s popularity has greatly decreased. Our spies from Dorne to the North tell us of rebellions and uprising. Aegon must win back the love of the people before that happens.’’ and how will he do that?
Yet I reply coyly as if It makes sense to me.’I see.’’
His master plan is finally rolling off his tongue. ‘’The girl is unmarried. Aegon will take her as his wife.’’ I stop my horse so I can see if the old man is jesting or perhaps if he had too much sun today.
I scoff, laughing at his ridiculous proposal. ‘’Aegon? Another wife?’’ He will never take another wife. He hates being a husband, he hates being a father, and he hates being a king. He will never take a girl as rebellious and challenging as Maella into his bed. He will not wed her.
My grandsire is convinced that Aegon will obey now that he has made him king.‘’Yes. He will do his duties and marry the princess.’’ He has utmost faith in my brother. If only he showed me the same courtesy.
He does not know Aegon very well. Not the way that I do, at least.
He becomes annoyed with my smirk. ‘’Get that smirk of your lips, Aemond. He will do as I command him.’’ I do as he asks but with great effort. He really thinks that Aegon, whore-fucking acholist Aegon, the shittiest dad in the Seven Kingdoms, will take another wife? He is becoming senile. There is no other explanation. This does not make any sense.
It feels unfair, also. That whore is mine. I captured her, I set the trap, I had to wait for her useless little bum to show up and I had to drag her through King’s Landing. She is mine. If she is to be anyone’s wife, she should damn well be mine.
They once entertained the thought of making me her husband. Daemon objected, as did my own mother and my father. Mother did not want to lose any of her children to Rhaenyra’s spawns, and my father did not think me good enough to marry his precious granddaughter, his special little spoiled princess.
The words leave my mouth before I can stop them. ‘’Grandsire, make her my wife instead.’’
I picture her big scared eyes when I tell her that she will become mine for the remainder of her pathetic life. Maella is not as hideous as her siblings. I am not in love with her, but if she were my wife, it would be my duty to put a child inside her. It would be an activity I would certainly enjoy more than she would. With any luck, she won’t be knocked up the first few times, and I can have my fun with the brat, breeding her as is my duty as her husband until she gives me a child, and to breed her once more after that.
Otto is not a stupid man. He needs convincing as to why I should get Maella. ‘’Tell me why should I? You should not be rewarded with Maella."
Well, for starters... A girl as Maella will obey me blindly. She is terrified since I killed her little brother. When I tell her to kneel she falls for my knees and begs for my mercy. I just know she will. ‘’She is terrified of me, grandsire. She fears me. All good women fear their husbands, and Maella will obey me blindly and behave.’’ I tell him smugly. ‘’That little brat will be broken into the moment she is my wife, rest assured, I won't rest until I've consummated and done my duty to my kingdom and my house.’’ Which mean fucking that whore.
He sighs before eying the sky and looks back at me. We are nearing the castle. ‘’Or she will stab us in the back the first chance she gets.’’ unlikely. Maella will be broken.
I hiss. ‘’We won’t let her.’’ Simple as that. ‘’Aegon already has a wife. I don’t.’’ I keep my voice from whining. There is another reason why Aegon does not need a second wife.
My poor sister will wither away when Maella becomes her equal and her sister-wife. I will not allow that. My grandsire might be ruthless, but he cares for Helaena. ‘’What will Helaena think of this? This is the most demented idea you entertained yet-’ A sharp pain in my jaw shuts me up. I glare at Grandsire when he lowers his hand. The hand he just slapped me with. A pathetic little slap, but I am still insulted, nonetheless. ’
I glare at him. ‘’The only woman you’ll take to wife is Floris Baratheon. You are a mere spare, Aemond. You’ll never be entrusted with the care of the princess, never mind that you will be her equal. You will do your duty and marry Floris. You will give up your useless plans and ambitions. The princess will be your brother’s.’’ As everything always has. Everything has always been his.
I warn him before leaning in. ‘’The smallfolk won’t like this.’’
Otto is blind to the threats right in front of him. Of the peasants and the small folk. ‘’They will. Aegon the conqueror had two wives. So will his namesake.’’ I grumble, clutching the reins of the horse tightly at his words.
It is not enough that Aegon has my gorgeous sister. He will have my niece, too. He will fuck, kiss, perhaps let them fuck one another and what do I get as a thank you for delivering her to him, for killing one of our enemies? I get scolded and slapped and insulted.
Otto notices my anger and smiles when calmly patting my back. ‘’Still, I am impressed you captured her. You were also smart enough to kill the boy's dragon. It would have been too dangerous.’’ No it wouldn't have been. Arrax was toothless and stupid. A unbefitting dragon for an unbefitting bastard. I only killed Arrax to make Luc suffer even more in his final moments.
On the back of the dragon, I told him what I would do once we would land. He knew he was going to be a snack. And I told him, if he told his little sister, that she would take his place. He kept silent and protected her. I am not sure my siblings would have shown me the same courtesy. I think not, truth be told.
We love each other out of need. But we do not love each other out of love. We cling to one another to survive. It is what makes this all so tragic.
We arrive at the castle. I get off my horse once the carriage halts in the familiar courtyard and drag the princess out of the carriage by her long dark locks. She cries in pain as I bring her inside.

nope, the guillotine is real. some of those fans saw her say that carapacians weren't real people in her pq route, reflected over some other stuff she did in the main story as well as her becoming the carapacian ruler on earth c, and their opinion just 180'd. not enough to hate her as a character mind you, its more of a "you are not an honorary member of our faves anymore" ordeal.
though my version of the guillotine is a lot weirder and reflective on roxy and a certain someone else.
I mean like almost none of the characters (and fanbase) treat the carapacians as real people except for the named characters for the most part
I mean just look at the Mayor! I've seen some discussions about like "hey isn't wild we babify him like he isn't an adult man who led a rebellion and watched that rebellion get slaughtered?" but that is not the take of the characters or most of the fanbase
I have a similar thing about fefetasprite -- no one treats her as a real character, least of all the comic except, perhaps ironically?, erisolsprite
Honestly that could be a whole reading of Homestuck! What characters count as "real" and what are just npcs/background objects! We're just getting to the part in the readthrough where Vriska and Aranea mind control a bunch of doomed timeline ghosts because they're not "real" and Sollux calls her out but also ends up referring to them as not "real"
ALSO also
Like........ anyone who takes PQ as serious characterization can mostly be ignored imo Nothing has felt more like fanfiction than PQ, even when I like parts of it. I mean Vriska has SUCH different characterization depends on who's writing her just as an example lmao

Hi!! I love your fic,The Blacks and The Greens is my favorite F&B fanfiction, specially your Rhaenyra,I’m in love with her! I wonder why you ship Daemyra if you think Daemon never really loved Rhaenyra in the book,I get where you come from but if I actually thought that I could never ship them, like if he was always using her and even less if he in fact ended detesting her and abandoning her and their family for a teen girl,I couldn’t ship them if I thought that was the case lol I would despise Daemon actually lmao
Hi there 😊
First, thank you so much for your very lovely words and I am very happy you like the story and how I write the characters! I do put a lot of thought in them so I am very pleased and especially that you are mentioning Rhaenyra because Daemon is usually everyone's fav XD
I am confused, however, when you say: "I wonder why you ship Daemyra if you think Daemon never really loved Rhaenyra in the book,"
Where exactly have you hear me say (write) this? I have never said this.
What I stress is the fact that from everything the books present us about Daemon I do not believe he would be able to love a woman let's say like his father Prince Baelon loved Princess Alyssa. That is just contrary to his character and to whom he is. But that in no way means I find him incapable of love and affection in any way. I don't.
I discuss Daemon's feelings for Rhaenyra at great lengths in here as well as what love meant for someone like Daemon. It's undeniable that he desired her, that she had given him things he wanted (sons especially), that she possessed many of the traits he was looking for in a woman, that he was adamant about being the only man in her life, that he remained loyal to her until the end and died for her cause -> make no mistake, Rhaenyra and Aegon III would have been beyond doomed. Not to mention that the two of them were similar people. Both of them are described as bold, charming when they wanted, slow to forgive, hot-tempered, Rhaenyra is described as proud and Daemon is shown to be proud through his actions. Both were shown to be arrogant and passionate... do I need to go on?
How strange is it that two people who have as much in common as these two had develop feelings for each other?
Not strange at all, and contrary to popular belief we usually do not stay with our opposites, we stay with our similars. Research shows that 6s stay with 6s and 8s with 8s. Yes, I am aware there are exceptions but research is usually conducted for the majority.
Back to your ask now, I at no moment ever said he didn't love her in the books and I do not believe it. Many "intellectuals" and "neutrals" have this take, and like i have said multiple times, a lie told too many times becomes the truth, and that happened with Daemon and Rhaenyra when I joined this fandom. The dogma was that Daemon's true love was Laena and that he had a complete personality shift when she came along, like he was Satan became Jesus, and then switched again when she died -> because of course that love changes people, said no one who ever took psychology 101 ever - and he was a terrible husband to Rhaenyra though we do not see any of this prior to mid-way through the Dance. In fact, he went into a lot more work to woo Rhaenyra than he ever did Laena, but that spoils the narrative so let's ignore it *wink emoji*
That was never my take on Daemon or on Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship even because I do not see evidence in the text that supports such claims. "Oh but just because it isn't said doesn't mean it's not true." Ok this game again, then I can defend that Corlys had a secret twin brother. Yes, it's not said, but that doesn't mean it's not true. So prove to me good folk online that Corlys didn't have a twin brother? Oh, you can't? Exactly.
I enjoy the toxic aspects of their relationship as well. I enjoy the chaos, it makes them entertaining in fiction. To me they are the most interesting couple and I will again use the metaphor that to me Daemon and Rhaenyra are two people playing a game of chess that neither can win and they both know it.
All the best to you, and happy new year ☺️

There's probably been enough said about Jamie Sunderguy and I've talked about Mary (love her), but I don't remember talking about Angela Orosco.
Angela as a person and Angela as a victim--though those two forms are inextricably linked and the latter can absorb the other--is an important distinction to make (at least to me). This is an extremely sensitive subject and it's really difficult to separate oneself from past abuse/trauma. So when talking about Angela, I'll try my best to respect what happened to her.
Angela seems to be someone who tries to help others even when she would rather keep to herself. We don't see a lot of her life outside of what happened to her, which is unfortunate (though understandable) given what I said at the start of this essay. I like to imagine what stretch of her adolescence she had command of. Maybe she had a worn poster of her favorite rock band on the wall somewhere or a favorite teddy bear (like the one we see outside of the room where James encounters her for the second time, though this is likely just a metaphor for the loss of childhood). But I'm not writing fanfiction.
Her reaction to her constant and severe abuse, however, is definitely portrayed in what I view a "realistic" way (realistic might be the wrong word, as reactions vary from person to person).
First of all, she carries a constant distrust of men in particular. We as the player know that James isn't like her father or brother, but if a man tried to talk to you alone in a graveyard and then conspicuously kept showing up no matter where you went? I'd be scared, too! Pair that with her past abuse, and it all makes sense.
Sidenote: I love the moment where James tries to explain why he's looking for Mary even though she's dead and Angela just decides to get as far away from this man as possible. I love James, but I get it.
It does not escape my notice that Angela is perhaps the most separated of the entire cast. Everyone else interacts with someone outside of James. This isolation could not have helped her situation.
Angela is volatile but fatalistic. She fights threats all the while feeling that she's backed into a corner. That moment where she tells James off is also a moment where she's certain he might do something bad to her. I will say nothing of the room they have this exchange in, but the way she finishes off the monster? Excellent. I wonder if the TV throw was a Scream reference.
And of course, there are her final moments. James is likely the only person in Angela's life that told her she didn't deserve all that happened to her. While this is absolutely the truth, its too little too late. James cannot give her what she needs and what she's been deprived of her entire life. I do not say that to condemn him--James is just some random guy and I would say he did okay with what he was given. But his words alone could not save Angela.
This is not to say that Angela was doomed because of her past (please don't take that away from this post). It means that her family gravely wronged her and she was in an awful mental state. She did not receive the support she needed and deserved. Perhaps some years down the line, if she survived, she would have reached a place of safety, comfort, and happiness. That possibility makes her death all the more painful.

Thank you!
23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?
Ohh I know, I know! I would love to capitalize on two of my favorite things: doomed by narrative + rebirth/transmigration/wearing books. Like, if you give Jason awareness that he's living in a comic book world where he's a villain/cannon fodder (so timeline-wise it would be pre-New 52), what is he going to do? How will he improve his life, if at all? If you know the narrative, can you fight back against it?
Kinda related, I have a very vague, AI panic/Westworld inspired idea that's kinda cyberpunk in essence but not in decorations, so to speak. It needs more effort than I can spend but it's basically this:
In "our" universe, some time into the future, DC is building Westworld-esque park. Meanwhile, they're - yet another time - rebooting the canon for their virtual reality universe. They, like, fired almost all writers and the bulk of work is done by ChatGPT or some such, an AI. But thing is, AI learns, and the only thing stopping it is the set of prohibitions made by programmers.
So one intern takes those prohibitions off for Jason. He gets awareness of the situation he's in. And, you know, it's a very depressing situation to be in. To realize that not only you, yourself, everything you experienced is the direct result of people wanting you to experience it, every bad thing that happened to him or what he had done to others (AI was trained both on comics and fanfiction, so... All those Titans Tower AU where he beats half to death a uwu Tim... Yeah). But even worse, his way really is just... Not going to work ever. He's never going to kill Joker, if he does Joker will be brought back, pronto. And it's not only Joker. Gotham will never improve, people will be dying, or living in misery - because that's the setting!
Gotham isn't cursed. Gotham was just created by very very cruel gods.
So like. What can Jason do? In most 'wearing books' stories, MC are improving their conditions thanks to knowing the plot. They get money, social standing, love and acceptance of the public... And family. They either break off from them entirely, miraculously finding another one (often), or build a better relationship with them because now that they know the plot, they can manipulate it. Sometimes they literally have indicators of affection, like in otome games or whatever. So that's one road before Jason. He can go, you know, from the unloved middle child that is constant worse than his older or younger brothers and sister, to the family pet (that's also a trope, like, everybody loves him and showers him with affection and gifts).
Or, you know. He can manipulate the intern into letting him out. Gain presence in the real world via robotic body from DC theme park. And...
youtube
"I kill all the gods (if they let it all happen)" is a good theme song for what Jason would do, imo. Which, he wouldn't be actually killing them, tbh - it's not going to help, like, any. ("Jason should stop killing" & Jason antis crowd should really like this fic, tbh)
But he would do something. To break this constant cycle.
But yeah, it's just an idea, but overall, wearing books Jason is just such a desirable trope for me. Like, forget all the "we live in a simulation" crap stuff, just leave the interrogation of tropes used on Jason to frame his story one way or another, and how he could re-define himself, how can he become happier - a protagonist, not just important for the plot character - yeah, it would be interesting for me.
I dunno, does it make sense?
