I love how you take the time to answer people’s asks, you make me feel so much better about things. Do you think Hoppers fate is going to be kept a secret literally until the day season 4 comes out? I’m trying to reassure my sister to be prepared for them teasing/throwing us off to keep us guessing. She was freaking out over that call David sent to the Duffers on Seth Myers lol, but he deffo knows whether he’s coming back as I’m sure he said before that he knew how the whole thing ended.
Oh I would not worry about the David thing on Seth Myers lmao. It was 100% completely and totally scripted. They absolutely knew that they can’t have David go around doing these big press things and have him avoid questions about Hopper’s fate, so they’re spinning it in ways that will generate more hype. Like, on Seth Myers, they could have just had Seth say smth like “And by the way, I know everyone’s wondering about David’s fate on Stranger Things, but we can’t discuss that tonight” or smth like that. That’s a perfectly valid way to approach an unavoidable question and get it out of the way and move on. But at the same time, it’s not doing anything FOR them, whereas when they come up with that idea to have David facetime the Duffers on air, it’s generating headlines and hype and getting ppl even more invested. They absolutely planned out that Facetime call in advance so that they could take the inevitable question about what happened to Hopper and spin it in a way that gets the show even more attention. David, the Duffers, and Seth Myers were absolutely scripted that whole time. And plus, I’m sure David knows Hopper’s fate by this point. He may not know every specific detail and all that, but at this point, I’m sure contracts are already signed/in development for s4, and they’ve reached out to the cast about filming, and David is gonna know by now whether he’s a part of it still or not. And considering he absolutely knows Hop’s fate and is still teasing it like this, to me thats just further proof he’s alive.
But yeah to actually answer your question, I wouldn’t worry about them not confirming anything until s4 is out. Assuming Hop is alive, it would be EXTREMELY difficult to keep that a secret up until the show comes out. There’s just so many opportunities for a leak. Even once filming begins it’ll be difficult to keep it wrapped up. It would be so easy for some paps to get a picture of him on set, or even if they can keep that under wraps, if some pap even just gets a picture of David in Atlanta while filming is going on, everyone would just know that ofc he’s there for ST. Honestly, I’m kinda expecting them to do what they did with Eleven for s2, where they confirm Hop is alive as soon as filming starts, but then keep it a big secret where he actually is and what really happened until a trailer drops or the season itself comes out. But hey, maybe they can manage to keep it a secret until the season comes out, but if that’s the case, I’m sure they’re just gonna continue to be even more blatantly obvious with their teasing. And if Hop is dead, which I seriously doubt at this point, they’re gonna confirm that as soon as possible too. Bc the longer they keep ppl questioning, the more sure ppl are that he’s alive. If they kept this charade going for a few more months, let along until season 4 is out, and then he was really dead, that would LITERALLY be flushing the show down the toilet. There would be such a massive outrage idk if they could ever make up for it lmao. Everyone would be so mad that they kept us on the hook for months/years when they could have just said since s3 came out that he’s dead, they’d be putting the show in its grave.
You also kind of have to think about what they want us to be focusing on. Right now they’re gonna be milking this Hopper thing for as long as possible bc they want us to talk about his fate. That’s one of the few questions they purposely left us after s3 to turn into s4 hype. But lbr, they’re not gonna want us talking about that forever. Eventually, esp as s4 is further in development, they’re gonna start teasing new things, and they’re gonna want the fandom’s energy to be on that instead of the old news that is Hopper’s fate. Hell, even beyond what they WANT fans to talk about, they know theres an expiration date for the Hopper stuff anyway. They know that if they keep us on the line too long, ppl are gonna get tired of speculating and lose interest, and they want to avoid that. Even now, so many fans are already tired of hearing the latest ways David is teasing Hop’s return bc they figure he’s def coming back anyway so all this teasing doesn’t matter. Stuff like that will also absolutely be a factor in how the marketing team handles everything with Hopper.
So to give a really long answer to your question, no i don’t think you have to worry. Whenever and however they confirm Hop’s fate is gonna be a super strategic move for the marketing team, and there’s a lot of factors at play so it’s hard to theorize how it’ll go down. But I rlly doubt they’ll leave his fate in question that long, and if they do, he’s most likely alive anyway and they’ll be v obvious about that
