FAMOUS AUTHORS
by Jeff Zimmermann
Built in the early '60s to revitalize Chicago's Old Town neighborhood the Sandburg Village—named after Illinois author Carl Sandburg—encompasses nine separate high-rises all named after other prominent authors such as Faulkner, Elliot, Dickinson, and Alcott. Four decades after the units' 1979 conversion to condos Chicago native Jeff Zimmermann added a tribute to five addional authors with portraits of Ernest Hemingway, James Baldwin, Upton Sinclair, Betty Smith, and Ayn Rand. Internationally renowned artist Zimmermann's work has been described as "having the sex appeal of commercial art" and his application of a background in graphic design to creating flashy and inviting portraits is fully on display here.
LOCATION: 1215 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60610

Susannah's Spring, Summer Reading List...2024
I’ll start with our eminent United States Capitol, beginning with a favorite book of mine I’ve read many times. The American Spirit: Who We Are And What We Stand For…David McCullough (2017)   He so eloquently reminds us of the Capitol’s sanctity, our very own Notre Dame standing majestically in our nations’s capital. Too many Americans think of it as just another building. After reading his A…

If I was a famous author, I would publish a book with ten different endings which all went to print with varying degrees of rarity, but not tell the fans about it so that I could watch their confusion as they disagree over how the story ended.
Then when we figured it out I would 'come clean', telling them that I had released eleven alternate endings and watch them all panic again as they all try to find the last ending.

Advice From Other Writers
Crime novelist, Raymond Chandler while reading his prose, suggests more detail…to write like a painter paints when describing a person, place or thing; how vital it is as long as it’s snappy and whittled down.   That’s where Hemingway comes in, reminding you to snip those loose threads…prune where it’s needed, or omit needless words to quote from the classic book…   The Elements of Style. An excellent video demonstrating the ways in which J. K. Rowling writes mystery. This has reawakened my love for mystery fiction, which can be spread into many different genres! It helps that I am currently rereading the Harry Potter series and marvelling at how innocuously Rowling places clues inside the narrative.
