Has anyone noticed that Jiang Cheng, who's Wei Wuxian's closest friend and brother calls him by his courtesy name while Lan Wangji who calls almost everyone by their most formal name calls him by his birth name?
Same goes to Xichen, who calls Wangji by his courtesy name but Jin Guangyao is just A-Yao or San-di....

I finished the art for my cousin's new poetry collection cover, I finished rewriting one chapter of my fantasy story and now it actually sounds kind of what I want it to sound like. That means I can go back to that figure skating au fanfic and finish the next chapter by the end of next week.

pardon me i'm just overwhelmed by wang yibo (as usual)
It's just, this kid, THIS KID, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND LET ME EXPLAIN
— he has to battle his way up through the ranks of YG to get to debut, in another country, away from his parents, while barely a teenager, all while learning a second language, and he not only does it, but according to legend he and Lisa are the only two foreign idols in YG history to graduate the program with all As
— and then his debut gets canceled and he has to go back to China and Yuehua and restart his entire career without much support at all from his agency, and he just does it, he starts the grind all over and just fucking does it
— he isn't even Yuehua's first choice for Day Day Up's new host competition, and they submit him only because he speaks Korean and that's good for the show, but then Wang Han sees him backstage one day and sees how hard he's working on his dance routine and immediately knows that Yibo is their next host, and not only is he an incredible addition to the show, but he stays on DDU longer than he reasonably should given how massively famous he gets, and he's so beloved that when he returns for Hunan's 2022 NYE concert, the network rolls out the red carpet and treats him like he's their hometown son and Wang Han is like, "Our Yibo has come home" (And Luoyang is the girlfriend in the distracted boyfriend meme lol but ykwim)
— he has to submit his comp shots twice just to even get an audition before anyone takes him seriously for The Untamed!! Except then the moment they see him, they immediately know he's their Lan Zhan
— he's the "pretty idol" throwaway captain for SDC3 and you can tell this when you watch the editing for the first episode because the comments for Yibo are all about how hot he is, and he comes in last place after the first captain's dance, and it's clear nobody really takes him seriously, but then the second he opens his street auditions, the tone of the entire show changes and from then on, for the next two seasons, he is completely unstoppable, his talent and intelligence and strategic thinking and competitive drive are so raw and exciting to watch that he basically takes over the entire show, the ratings more than double from s2 to s3, his fandom grows even more massive, and the dancers all fucking LOVE HIM. like dude he wins street dance of china so hard that within three seasons he's basically co-producing it and he's literally given a writing credit.
— The director of Being a Hero doesn't think he's old or mature enough to play Chen Yu and then Yibo sits down and talks to him about why he wants the role and the director realizes that Yibo basically is Chen Yu, he's the focused hard-working persevering single-minded actor of his dreams, and Yibo winds up giving a performance so moving it makes the director cry and declare, "That? That's acting."
— he jumps from no ranking at all to 9th place to #2!!!!!! within TWO YEARS on the Forbes China 100 Most Powerful people list between 2019 and 2021
— Duhua famously didn't take him seriously or treat him well for most of their long contractual relationship, oh shit, because now according to YH's latest investor report for Q3-4 2022, he singlehandedly brings in 90% of the profit for her entire company, a shareholder, the "top talent," and the one who has to pay whenever Uniq gets together because he's "the boss"
— Yibo goes from being the SDC underdog to being so respected that when Da Peng is looking for a dancer to star in his street dance movie, he asks all the best street dancers what actor is capable of doing the moves, and they all unanimously tell him: Wang Yibo. Da Peng winds up telling the press on Weibo Film night 2022 that he wrote the whole movie for Yibo, and that "if there's no Yibo, there's no movie"
— Cheng Er, director of Wuming, claims he has no idea who Yibo is, and just decided to cast him in a supporting role in his film because he looks the part of a Republic-era spy. And then he sees Yibo act, and he sees Yibo immerse himself in the part, and he sees how hard Yibo is willing to work and how committed he is, and he rewrites his entire movie until Wang Yibo is the main fucking character; Wang Yibo, in his first major film debut, acts his way into the lead and earns rave reviews from across the globe, including the goddamn new york times
Every time you think people will have finally figured out that you do not underestimate Wang Yibo, you learn of some new example where Yibo, once again, has had to prove himself in an industry that perpetually writes him off and doesn't take him seriously at first — only for the people around him to be absolutely blown away by his talent and dedication and mesmerizing star power.
And this happens over and over and over again. And he just does the work, always, every time, without complaint, and every time the result is something surprising and unexpected and fantastic and such a mark of his incredible passion and talent
— and every time I think my heart can't possibly grow any more sizes over Yibo, he proves me wrong

EVERY DAY IS EVERY DAY
Manhua artist Mao Tuan Xiao Jian Jian-laoshi serves up the last part of WangXian's papapa scene from chap 111 of the novel (what would've been chap 256 if the world was a perfect place). Go to their Twitter @maotuanxjj for all the missing goodies 🍆 and to send them some love.
Tumblr media
Missing 🍆
Tumblr media
🔥🔥🔥
Tumblr media
Again, I love this sexy gremlin so much 😭😭
Tumblr media
Hornee Lan Zhan is adorable.
Tumblr media
😭😭😭💖
And that's it for WangXian's first full papapa scene! There are of course more ppp scenes in the extras chapters of the novel...the most famous of them ofc courtesy of the Incense Burner (WangXian's wonderful adventures in the Library Pavilion and Bichen's amazing journey up Wei Ying's 💮, for example), but again that's not ALL that the extras are about! They're really the happily ever after moments of WangXian and a lot of it is so freaking sweet and romantic! And while their dreamworld sexcapades may get a bit too adventurous for some, they're all bourne from their immense love and healthy lust for each other and we should all hope that we are blessed with what they have. Not to mention, one of the extras even gives us a flashback involving Jin Guangyao and Xue Yang, so again, it's not all just about the sex so don't be misled into skipping them!
Mao Tuan XJJ-laoshi has already illustrated the Incense Burner Library Pavilion scene a while back but I do hope they will continue with illustrating the Gusu Lan banquet extra and all the other extras in this unofficial way. I am deeply saddened that because this is all unofficial we will never see these scenes as a part of the official English release of the manhua, but I hope everyone will still support the Eng volumes by purchasing them, as a way of showing our support for MXTX-laoshi.
To purchase English releases of all of MXTX's novels, go to Sevenseasdanmei.

Ek passe tu babbu, ek passe hai jag saara
-You on one side, my beloved, the entire world on another-
[About Ch-3 of Something is Wrong with A-Zhan!]
Remember the morally grey Wei Wuxian tag? Yeah, that line at the top is what I meant by that. I don’t think Wei Wuxian would ever be morally grey, he’s the most morally upright character I have ever come across, but just for this fic, as long as it’s Lan Wangji vs the world, Wei Wuxian would always choose Lan Wangji, even if it conflicts with his moral and principles. Putting it simply, Wei Wuxian would condemn murder and harming the innocents, but if it’s Lan Wangji committing these crimes, he wouldn’t be able to bring himself to condemn him, instead, he’ll come up with possible justifications for Lan Wangji and defend him.
I hope I was able to capture an inkling, an essence of this in the chapter.
Also, is anyone surprised that no Lan elders except Lan Qiren are furious at Lan Wangji's wantonness? I just think that after the whole Qingheng-jun fiasco, they will think Lan Wangji much more tame, especially since Wei Wuxian, unlike the Madam Lan in my head, doesn't seem too bothered by their second heir's behavior. Maybe they are even turning a blind eye to this because of how much they love Wei Wuxian and his genius.
My thought process behind their thought process is that- since Wei Wuxian is a once in a lifetime genius and he is here (in cloud recesses) because of Lan Wangji and he is staying because of his obvious love for their second heir, and they know this. They can see this. So, just for the sake of keeping Wei Wuxian in their sect as their prized disciple who is famous all around for his no-less-than-miraculous inventions, they all collectively decide to overlook Lan Wangji's shameless behaviour that is definitely not befitting of someone holding the title of the Second Jade of GusuLan.
Of course, no one added Lan Qiren to the group chat and that's why he's still bitter about his nephew's changed behaviour.
Mini Theater:-
*lwj acting shameless, holding wwx by the waist and kissing him publicly* Lan Elders: I can't see, I'm blind~ blind~ Lan Qiren, who was not added to the chat and thus was not informed that they have to ignore all this: *qi-deviates* Lan Xichen, who now has to deal with his dramatic uncle: Wangji, if you could just get a room, I would be grateful. You know uncle can't handle this much pda. Lan Wangji: *too busy sucking wwx's soul out through his mouth to hear, further sending his dramatic but weak-hearted single uncle into a qi-deviation* Lan Xichen: ... I love you, didi, but I feel like I should not. When did you become such a menace?!
I don't even know why I'm babbling, but I am and I refuse to suffer through the on-goings of my mind alone, so here we are~

💙 【那夏天的我們】 a stroke of fate
by puddingcatbeans (@puddingcatbeans)
G, 59k, Wangxian
Summary: After an unhappy confrontation with his agency, renowned guqin player and accomplished composer Hanguang-jun makes a sudden retreat from the public eye. Lan Wangji moves to a tiny village barely on the maps for the summer. He's there for seclusion, to cool down, to reflect on his behaviour - but he finds so much more than he even knew he was looking for. That summer - cicada song. bamboo groves. fresh peaches. ink smudges and guqin strings. Our summer. [ russian translation | spanish translation ] Kay's comments: Big love to this story! If you've ever enjoyed watching a li ziqi video on YouTube, then this story is for you, because that's what Wei Ying does. The soft Youtube-AU everyone needs in their life tbh. In which Lan Zhan flees his busy city life where he's a famous composer and spends a summer in the countryside with Wei Ying and the Wens. It's soft, it's comforting and there's also some secrets to be discovered along the way. Excerpt: “What’s a city slicker like you doing in the boonies?” Lan Wangji frowns. “Are you not also someone who moved here from the city?” He receives a surprised blink for that. Then the man laughs, and the sound is so much more vibrant outside of a screen. “I see you know who I am, huh. Are you a fan? Did you come all the way here for an autograph?” “No,” Lan Wangji blurts out. He takes back all his previous thoughts. This man might be breathtaking to look at but he’s quite annoying once he opens his mouth. “I have seen your videos. But I am here purely for a break from my... work.” “Right.” The man studies him with sharp eyes, but Lan Wangji just stares back stoically. He’s been looked at like he’s a puzzle, but Lan Wangji isn’t sure what the man is seeing. He’s not sure what he wants the man to see.

I just got the most romantic idea
So one the darkest places on Earth where you can see the Milky Way is Roque de los Muchachos in Tenerife, where a famous astronimic observatory lays
WWX has been raving about going there forever, but it was always out of his reach due to costs, work, having nobody to watch A-Yuan for a longer period etc
He and LWJ meet and fall in love, as is destined, and for their one year anniversary, he books a vacation in Tenerife and first thing they do is go stargazing
WWX is absolutely vibrating with excitement, pointing out stars and constellations and nebulas and the Milky Way, telling LWJ all sorts of facts
And then LWJ asks him if he's ever heard of this one particular star named Wangxian
And he laughs because come on Lan Zhan that's so corny
But LWJ is entirely serious and hands WWX a piece of paper
It's a certificate for the star he named after them, with exact coordinates and everything
And as WWX reads the paper and his eyes fill up, LWJ drops to one knee

Wangxian modern crime au where:
Lan Wangji, or Hanguang-jun, is a famous crime boss, and Yilling Laozu is said to be his 'worst enemy'.
But Wei Ying, Wei Wuxian, is an artist, boba shop owner, and the love of Lan Wangjis life. (That man has killed MANY people for this boy.)
Wei Wuxian does not know that Lan Zhan and Hanguang Jun are the same person. or, at least, he's not supposed to.
Wei Ying has one of the most powerful crime bosses, other than himself, wrapped around his finger, and he knows it. He swings his hips and bites his lips like he does not know what it does to people—to Lan Zhan, Hanguang-jun—like hes all innocent and couldn't possibly have killed most, if not all, of the Qishan Wen group single-handedly with his own kin.

💠💙Troubled by the Emptiness
By:DecemberCamie
Summary:
Ten years after the end of the Sunshot Campaign, a Night Hunt leaves Lan Wangji depleted of spiritual energy and Lan Xichen heavily injured. The townsfolk in Yiling advise Lan Wangji to seek help from the Wei Sect however there is a problem with that.
Lan Wangji has never heard of the Wei Sect before. He doesn’t know of a single cultivator who bears the name.
And yet there is something hauntingly familiar about Sect Leader Wei Wuxian, something that makes Lan Wangji reconsider everything he’s known of his own past and everything he wants for his future.
Chapter:5/5
Words:27,195
Status:Completed
“You don’t know me because I was always just passing by. We never spent enough time in the same space for us to get to know each other. You wouldn’t have liked me if we met as kids, anyway. I talked too much and got in trouble all the time.” He grins, as if degrading himself is something that should be considered funny. Lan Wangji frowns. “I disagree.” “Oh? About what?” “I…I would have liked you, had we met when we were younger.” Wei Wuxian leans back, blinking. Then he laughs. It is a bright, bold laughter. Unrestrained and loud. It sounds exactly as it does in his dreams every night, echoing in his ears and haunting his waking hours. A perfect replica, an impossible reality. Lan Wangji had not been entirely sure before this moment. But now he is certain that Wei Wuxian is the mysterious stranger in his dreams. And Wei Wuxian, unaware of how his simple existence has shaken Lan Wangji to his core, beams. “Aiyah, Lan Zhan. That’s nice of you to say. But I don’t think that would have been the case at all.” “You don’t?” Wei Wuxian’s smile saddens and Lan Wangji’s heart aches as if it’s being torn in two. “No, I don’t. I think you would have really and truly hated me."
~~
his eyes land on a jar in similar size and color to the one Wei Wuxian had been drinking from on the roof. “I drink to forget,” Wei Wuxian’s words come back to him. “So it’s pretty great.” Lan Wangji doesn’t want to forget. Rather, he feels as though he has already lost something precious to him. Staying here at the Wei Sect is the closest he’s ever come to grasping at something he has no shape or reference for. Drinking will most likely not help with that. But so far, nothing else has. And tomorrow he will leave without coming any closer to the truth. Lan Wangji steps towards the jars.
~~
Lan Zhan,” he whispers. “Are you—Are you drunk?” Lan Wangji frowns. He presses his finger harder against Wei Wuxian’s mouth, repeating, “Shhhhhh.” Wei Wuxian doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He and Lan Wangji had talked about his non drinking habit not even two hours ago, yet he’d gone and sneaked some alcohol out of his own will! What could have possessed him to let go after so many years?
~~
“Who,” Lan Wangji begins quietly, haltingly, “are you?” Wei Wuxian hesitates, not knowing what kind of response is expected. Lan Wangji’s expression crumples. He gives Wei Wuxian a rough shake, growling, “Who are you?!” “I—I’m Wei Ying! I’m Wei Ying, remember? Wei Wuxian, leader of the Wei Sect—” “No!” Wei Wuxian grunts as Lan Wangji shoves him against the wall once more. He doesn’t fight against Lan Wangji’s hold, knowing it's pointless. The Lans are famous for their arm strength. Even a golden core wouldn’t help him much in this situation. “Why?” Lan Wangji chokes out. His fingers dig into Wei Wuxian’s shoulders and Wei Wuxian hisses in pain. He’ll have bruises there for the next week. “Why, what?” he grits out. “Why are you in my dreams?” Wei Wuxian stills. Because, what? Lan Wangji lifts a trembling hand. He cups Wei Wuxian’s cheek with a surprising gentleness. “Your laugh…it’s been there. For ten years, you were…and now you say we’ve never met.” To Wei Wuxian’s horror, Lan Wangji’s bottom lip starts to wobble. “You are in my dreams. How can we not know each other?” “Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian breathes, heartbroken and unable to give the answers Lan Wangji craves, and Lan Wangji adamantly shakes his head. “No.” He leans forward to bury his face in the crook of Wei Wuxian’s neck. His shuddering breath causes goosebumps to rise across Wei Wuxian’s skin. “No, why…why can’t I remember? Who are you?” He slumps over. Wei Wuxain automatically slides to the ground with him, arms coming around Lan Wangji to stop him from falling. “Lan Zhan?” he asks quietly. He gently lifts Lan Wangji’s face off his shoulder to see his eyes are closed. He’d fallen asleep. Wei Wuxian huffs, a smile tugging at his lips. “What am I to do with you?” he wonders aloud as he brushes a stray lock of hair out of Lan Wangji’s face. Lan Wangji looks years younger like this. Younger, even, than when they first met as teenagers on the roof of Cloud Recesses. All the tension in his face is gone, his furrowed brows are smoothed out and the hard line of his lips are soft. Wei Wuxian’s gaze lingers on Lan Wangji’s mouth. He shouldn’t. He really, really shouldn’t. But he’s never been one to shy away from a bad idea and, well, he most definitely won’t ever get this chance again. After tomorrow he’ll have to go back to pretending he doesn’t miss Lan Wangji like a severed limb. So he leans forward and gently kisses Lan Wangji’s soft lips. “I’m sorry, Lan Zhan,” he murmurs after he pulls back. “It’s mean of me to steal your first kiss. But don’t worry—I’ll be gone forever once we say goodbye. You’ll never have to be sad or angry because of me ever again.”
~~
“He says he dreams of me,” he says as they walk back down the hall. Wei Qing looks at him sharply. “Who? Hanguang-jun?’ Wei Wuxian nods and Wei Qing’s expression turns thoughtful. “Interesting. But I’m not surprised.” Wei Wuxian blinks. “Really?” “Yes. Remember, we didn’t know the side effects of the array when we activated it. We assumed there was nothing serious when there was no immediate news from the cultivation world, but what if there were only side effects for those who had important memories with you?” “Lan Zhan didn’t have that many memories with me.” She ignores him. She also kindly ignores his flinching at her next words, “Lan Wangji and the Jiang siblings were extremely close with you. And now all three of them seem to suffer with headaches, from which Lan Wangji only found relief when you were near. My guess is that they have some kind of phantom pain.” “What’s that?” “Imagine you lose a limb. You won’t adapt to not having an arm or leg so easily. Your mind will play tricks on you, make you think that body part is still attached to you even though it is gone. I believe the same thing happened when you removed their memories—your presence was so ingrained in their lives that their body and mind is having a hard time adapting without you around. “That’s why Lan Wangji also knew your name. He has no memory of you, but it is reflective for him to call you by your birth name. He dreams of you not because he still has memories of you but because his subconscious cannot stop thinking of you.” She pauses before adding, “It’s flattering. You are truly loved, Wei Ying.” Wei Wuxian flushes. “I don’t know about that. Lan Zhan had nothing but bad things to say about me while we were in the war.” “Only because he was worried about you.” “You don’t get it, Qing-jie. He couldn’t stand even looking at me back then. If he learns the truth about what I did, about how I cultivate, he would only hate me more.” Wei Qing shakes her head. “I’ll never understand how you can be so brilliant yet so stupid at the same time.”
~~
“So we were at the very least friends.” “At the very…what do you mean?” Lan Wangji dares to cup Wei Wuxian’s face, gently brushing his thumb across gaunt cheeks. Wei Wuxian sucks in a quiet breath. The skin under Lan Wangji’s hands warm with a blush. It’s a clear sign, and relief and bitterness wash over Lan Wangji in a crashing wave. He had not been reading their interactions incorrectly. Something had been between them before. Something unspeakable and warm and beautiful. He murmurs, “Were you really so cruel to take this from me, Wei Ying? How long had we been courting before my memories of you were erased?” Wei Wuxian’s eyes grow impossibly large. “N-No, Hanguang-jun. Lan Zhan. You’ve got it wrong. We didn’t—We weren’t—” Wei Wuxian stiffens, as if realizing something, and his gaze hardens. He jerks away from Lan Wangji, snapping, “If this is some kind of trick to get me to confess, think again.” “Why would I need to trick you with the truth? I only wish to know now why you gave us up.” “Shut up! There is nothing between us. You’re painting a rosy picture based on half truths you made up in your own head.” Wei Wuxian pushes past Lan Wangji and moves towards the door. Lan Wangji catches Wei Wuxian’s hand, stopping him from getting too far. “Wei Ying. What did you do all of this for? Tell me.” Wei Wuxian tries to pull out of Lan Wangji’s grip and snarls when he fails. “Are you going to trap me here until I tell you what you want to hear? What would the cultivation world say if they heard of their precious Hanguang-jun keeping someone hostage?” Wei Wuxian’s words remind Lan Wangji of his mother. He immediately shies away from the comparison. “I would not do that. But you cannot leave just yet.” He has a feeling if Wei Wuxian takes a single step out of this room, he will never see him again.
~~
Wei Wuxian throws himself against Lan Wangji’s hold. He tries kicking his legs, tries bucking his hips, tries squirming and cursing. Lan Wangji remains immovable and unflinching throughout it all. He will not let Wei Wuxian run away. He will not let him escape to a place where he cannot be found. He will not let Wei Wuxian make a decision on his own that impacts both of them—not again. He just needs to focus on that mission and not on the very distracting way Wei Wuxian’s body presses against his. “Wei Ying,” he hisses, heart hammering in his chest. “Be still. Why did you erase all memories of yourself?” Wei Wuxian is red-faced as he growls back, “You can’t keep me here! Qing-jie and A-Ning will come for me. You won’t be able to fight all three of us.” Lan Wangji opens his mouth, about to retort, when a thought occurs to him.
He asks, “What are Wei Qing and Wei Qionglin to you?” Wei Wuxian laughs breathlessly, head thrown back to reveal a pale throat. “Why do you care? Don’t tell me you’re jealous.” Lan Wangji increases the pressure on Wei Wuxian’s wrists. “What did they do to earn such a grand sacrifice? Wei Qing is a doctor. Did she heal someone important to you?” He remembers the massacre at Lotus Pier, how Jiang Wanyin and Jiang Yanli had been temporarily on the run before joining the Sunshot Campaign. “Did she save the Jiang siblings?” “Hanguang-jun, rather than focusing on something like that, you should think of yourself. You shouldn’t be affiliated with me. It’s bad for your reputation.” “I don’t care.” “Oh, I think you do.” Wei Wuxian lifts his head, angling it just so, and then all Lan Wangji can see are dark silver eyes. “Remember what I told you? I fought in the war against the Wens. But I didn’t have a golden core. And you just saw me leaving the Burial Mounds covered in resentful energy. How do you think I fought back then?” Wei Wuxian’s whisper brushes against Lan Wangji’s lips, “Fraternizing with someone who practices demonic cultivation is against your Sect’s rules, you know.”
The Lan Sect rules are the farthest things on Lan Wangji’s mind right now. The only thing he can think of is kissing Wei Wuxian, of turning off his lies and distractions and prying the truth out of him with his own mouth and tongue. He wants to hear Wei Wuxian spill his secrets in gasps and moans. He wants to find a way to ensure Wei Wuxian won’t sacrifice the new memories they share like he had their previous ones.
I don’t care,” he repeats.
"Oh, Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian murmurs. “You’re such a liar.” “The only one who has lied here is you.”

idr if that's drama only, but didn't WWX memorize the Lan rules at least in CQL? or did he cite only the confucian ones back at Wen Chao?
Tumblr media
... I apologize, but I must confess... this is why I am not a fan of the live action series.
The liveaction, Chenqingling or the Untamed as it is known in the international market, gave us some of the best rendition of characters and amazing chemistry between the two leads, Lan Wangji by Wang Yibo and Wei Wuxian by Xiao Zhan.
That does not erase the fact that it absolutely butchers the nuances, details, and deeper themes from the book (and the fact that Lan Wangji let Wei Wuxian left at the end of the TV show. What the absolute flying fuck?!!!).
It's an ok show by its own merits. But it absolutely is not faithful to the book... by a very large degree. This is not its fault. TV Shows and series have to abide by extremely strict censorship laws in China. It's not a secret that the film crew did what they could.
That said, in the Chinese fandom, Chenqingling is Chenqingling. MDZS is MDZS. The one is not the other. Chenqingling is not counted and categorized in the MDZS tag in Chinese fandom. The distinction is very clear. There have been more fandom wars than I care to count just because people try to toe the line or purposefully mistag.
In any case, to answer your question. No, Wei Wuxian did not cite Lan rules or any rules at all at Wen Zhao during Xuanwu cave.
What he cited was a line from a book called 温门精華录 (Wen Men Qing Hua Lu. Lit: Collection of House Wen Essence). This book was issued by House Wen to all the people forced to take part in their education camp. The book, as the name suggests and the novel describes in detail, is a collection of famous sayings by the best and most famous cultivators from House Wen, chief among them is Wen Mao, the founder of House Wen and the man who started the era of Cultivator House (and not Sect, as the common mistranslation in the international fandom).
Wei Wuxian quoted a line from Wen Mao himself from that book, provoking Wen Zhao into saying such a line is 'dog's fart.' That is the trick. It was Wen Zhao who forced that book on the people of the education camp and demanded them all to memorize the lines in there and be in awe at House Wen's greatness. So in one move, Wen Zhao not only revealed he himself knew shit all about the sayings of his own House, but he also insulted the founder of his own house, his own ancestor. According to the novel, this was a crime punishable by death for all those who belong to House Wen. Insulting the very founder of that House himself.
It's a detail in the book that shows not only is Wei Ying extremely smart, he's also very cultured (and very creative) even when he's insulting somebody. He's not the type to resort to crude curses.
So no, it has nothing to do with Lan's House Rule (Which seems to be another common misunderstanding in the international fandom. The Lan rules are their own House Rules. It's in the name itself. 傢規 . House Rules. The only people who have to abide by those rules are members of House Lan, or students while they studying in Cloud Recess. That's why Wei Wuxian said, why does he have to learn the rules? He's not about to be married into House Lan. So technically, he only has to abide them within reasons why he was there. House Lan do not seek to impose their own rules on anyone else. That would be tyranny and the very same thing the Wen tried to do.)

Wei Wuxian as a healer
“Lan Zhan! Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian skittered to a stop in front of Lan Wangji. “You have to help me!”
Lan Wangji looked on the verge of turning on his heel and stalking away, only restraining himself on account of how utterly rude it would be – but of course, that was why Wei Wuxian had done it this way.
“I’m serious,” he insisted. “I need your help! It’s dire!”
Lan Wangji was a good person at heart. Even if it was someone who he (quite obviously) found as incredibly irritating as Wei Wuxian, he wouldn’t turn down a sincere request.
Sure enough, Lan Wangji, although still stiff and tense, didn’t run away the way he had the last few times they’d met, and instead looked at him questioningly.
Taking that as permission, Wei Wuxian proceeded to pour out his heart: “My dad wants to arrange a marriage between me and Wen Qing!”
“I am aware.”
Wei Wuxian huffed. “Everyone’s aware. My mom is the biggest blabbermouth in the cultivation world, bigger even than me; sometimes I think that’s what she’s really famous for rather than being an immortal’s disciple…anyway, not the point. The point is, he thinks we’ll be happy together because we argue all the time.”
“You also write to her often,” Lan Wangji pointed out. “You are always by her side at every conference.”
A pause.
“…do you – not want to marry her?”
“No! Of course not!” Wei Wuxian waved his hands. “She’s the only other person our age that wants to be a healer like me – she’s a study buddy. A fellow doctor-in-arms! A work rival! We only talk as much at conferences as we do because the Wen sect reads each other’s mail and we don’t want our ideas to get stolen – it doesn’t mean I want to marry her, or that she wants to marry me. In fact, if we got married, we would kill each other!”
“I see,” Lan Wangji said, and for whatever reason the pale, withdrawn look that he’d had so often recently – possibly due to some illness he wouldn’t allow Wei Wuxian to try to diagnose? – seemed to fade away. “I will assist. What can I do?”
“You’re the best,” Wei Wuxian said, rubbing his hands together in glee. “All right, now, my parents are dyed-in-the-wool romantics, so the best way to get them to leave me alone would be to appear already taken. That’s where you come in –”
Jiang Cheng had nearly choked to death when he’d told him about his brilliant plan, but what did he know? Wei Wuxian didn’t see any flaws in this idea.
None at all.

ridiculous future bullshit by sami
Future Fic 19 works 61K words
While rereading through works related to Author sami's And Time Is But A Paper Moon, reviewed here and here and here, I remembered reading the ridiculous future bullshit series. Through 19 short works of fiction, Author sami creates a reasonable facsimile of what the future looks like if six Immortals survive into the 21st century, forming the Five Nations.
Note: Author sami tells us "So this is the actual first-ish entry in the ridiculous future bullshit series, which of course means it is still the purest trash, it's bullshit and any complaints will still be met with you were warned."
Let's take a quick look at a few of the tales.
Now Showing: Hanguang-Jun And The Yiling Patriarch
Wei Wuxian rubs his nose. "Look, I'm guessing you're okay with your movie being, like… complete bullshit, right?"
"They are okay with that. They are so very fucking okay with that," Steve snaps.
"Okay." Wei Wuxian grins, and Dennis suddenly absolutely believes that he is talking to a trickster god. "You don't want to put Sandu Shengshou in this movie, trust me. And if you make this about sh- Jiang Yanli's actual marriage, then she might cry, and then Sandu Shengshou and I will have to raze this place to the fucking ground and salt the earth on which it stood, nobody wants that kind of hassle. But you can have a poor girl named Mo Fan - she has a terrible family, make it a bit like Cinderella, that was an okay movie."
Wei Wuxian has seen Cinderella.
Dennis notices that a sparkly princess crown has fallen out of Wei Wuxian's shopping bags.
"Mo Fan," he croaks. "Got it. Cinderella."
Wei Wuxian nods earnestly. "And a handsome prince named Jin Guangyao meets her and falls in love with her. He's in town to… try and help the villagers rebuild after the famine that drew the monsters there," he says. "Because he's just a really good guy. You can say it sends messages about how not all heroes are stabby fighters."
In which an animated movie Hanguang-Jun and the Yiling Patriarch is discussed with its Producer while the poor, ignored Five Nations consultant recognizes the two Immortals in the Producer's office.
Let's just say the original premise featuring "the story of Hanguang-Jun, a noble prince, who defeats the monsters terrorising the city of Yiling with the help of the grizzled old Yiling Patriarch, and in the process falls in love with a local maiden, Princess Lotus Blossom." is not appreciated.
Flick of the Wrist
Dernier is famous. He's been on television in sixteen countries. She's bound to be impressed.
He skips actually attending the afternoon session in favour of writing and then recording a long YouTube video about the Symposium. He titles it Inside the Top Secret Medical Conference You've Never Heard Of, and uploads it with a smirk. That'll show them for not actually inviting him.
In which a Famous Medical Researcher attends a Symposium held by Wen Qing. Once.
Lan Zhan's University Days (JAFFY)
Ziyuan gives him a look. "Last I checked, you weren't in charge of the computer science department, shushu, and this is what I have to do if I want to pass."
Jiang Ying scowls. "We'll see about that," he says darkly. He leaves the room briefly and comes back with a laptop of his own. It looks like it was probably sleek and expensive once, but now it's covered with glitter stickers. He sets it on the table and turns it on; when he clears away the windows he did have up, Jordan thinks she sees a browser tab open to YouTube frozen on a still frame of a Hanguang-Jun and the Yiling Patriarch fanvid.
Jiang Ying really seems to like that movie. He wears Hanguang-Jun and the Yiling Patriarch t-shirts at least once a week.
"You run Suibian?" Peter, one of the other students, sounds impressed. Jordan has heard of it - it's an open-source operating system, which is apparently important. Her sister is Very Into Computers, and talks about it a lot, apparently it's way better than other operating systems. Ava keeps trying to get Jordan to let her install it on her computer.
"I wrote Suibian," Jiang Ying says absently, typing rapidly.
"Holy shit," Peter breathes. "You're Axian?" He pronounces it Axe-ian.
"A-Xian," Jiang Ying corrects, still typing. "But you can't call me that, stick to Jiang Ying. I wrote it for my brother and sister, they needed something with actual security for their… work."
"Why does the source code say my sword is always at your service?" Peter asks eagerly. "Everyone has so many theories about that. Do you play D&D?"
"I don't. It says that because for them, it is. Hush now, do your work, I'm busy," Jiang Ying says, tossing a smile over his shoulder. Text is scrolling rapidly through several terminal windows.
In which Lan Zhan goes to veterinary school and the entire class is adopted for the semester after failing their first exam because Students Were Distracted.
Characters encountered here are met again and again in other tales. Some characters become more important than others.
And there are kittens.
The stories are not canon and are definitely not to be taken too seriously. Still … they are an exceptionally enjoyable read.
And yes, I enjoy YouTube "The Untamed" themed crack videos as well.

9 and 16, for the positive meme? (there are so many good questions, i'm kind of just picking at random...)
9. a ship that isn't your OTP but that you enjoy
I genuinely only have the attention span to read/write xiyao, BUT I also enjoy, in no particular order: sang/cheng, cheng/qing, any variation of zhan/cheng/xian (but preferably two by two), niecest perhaps (prefer it platonic). Chengxuan intrigues me a little bit? I'm unlikely to feature any but wangxian in my fics, but I am open to all of those.
16. a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate
Lan Xichen's masterful diplomacy with the teacups in Qinghe is famous in xiyao circles but it most definitely deserves more appreciation! He is an incredibly good diplomat, and he knows how to use his privilege to uplift others without making it look like a big deal. He is actually really good at his job!

CQL/MDZS INSP - Gusu Arc Pt6c: Wen Yuan
After a pause, Lan Wangji spoke. “Wei Ying....” “Yeah?” Lan Wangji said, “There is something I never told you.” Wei Wuxian somehow felt his heart skip a beat, “What is it?” [All kinds of spoilers cut out--read the book/watch the show!] Wei Wuxian hadn’t yet wrapped his mind around what was going on, still confused, “A-Yuan… Didn’t he die? He was left all alone in the Burial Mounds during the slaughter.…” He hadn't even finished speaking when Lan Xichen's words echoed in his ears: "Those years Wangji spent in Seclusion reflecting on his mistakes were really because he was entirely bedridden. Despite that, when he heard you were dead, he dragged himself to the Burial Mounds to see for himself...." Wei Wuxian spun to look at Lan Wangji. “Lan Zhan! Was it you?!” Lan Wangji answered, “Yes.” He gazed at Wei Wuxian, “This was what I never told you.” For a long time, Wei Wuxian couldn’t say anything. Lan Wangji looked at the grinning Wei Wuxian and shook his head, his eyes gentle.
-- Mo Dao Zu Shi, Chapter 111
MY THOUGHTS (spoilers)
This is one of the very best reveals in the whole story, in every adaptation. I'm avoiding but also spoiling so much right now actually. It's always excellently teased out, even with the heavy emphasis put on A-Yuan up and down the story. For many reasons, Chapter 111 is the most famous part of the book--if you know, you know! <3 But Hanguang-Jun remains the undefeated G.O.A.T.! ^0^
Unfortunately, rescuing Wen Yuan was the last thing Lan Wangji could do for the next 3 years, as he had held out against his Discipline Whip injuries long enough to bring the kid back to Gusu, before finally falling into a coma. So when Wei Wuxian asked why it took LWJ 3 years before he finally went looking for WWX's lost soul, this is why. 😭
Happy Hanguang-Jun(e) Month! 💔
