Faithful and Virtuous Night, Louise Gluck (insp)
On February 1st 2024, it was announced that 7-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Formula 1 team Mercedes AMG Petronas would be parting ways after the 2024 season. This announcement ends an 11-year long partnership between Hamilton and the Mercedes works team, and a 17-year long relationship with their parent company, Mercedes-Benz.
Hamilton will drive for Scuderia Ferrari in the 2025 season. It will be the first time in his racing career driving a car with no connection to the Silver Arrows.

I wasn't a Lewis Hamilton fan before Max Verstappen became a title threat around 2020.
I liked Lewis, I respected him, but I liked Sebastian Vettel more.
Verstappen fans constantly accuse Hamilton fans of "playing the racism card." But here's the thing:
1. Max Verstappen's dad has made close to borderline racist remarks about Lewis Hamilton. He's also a known abuser who assaulted his wife.
2. Max Verstappen's mentor, Helmut Marko, has made racist remarks against Lewis and Checo, and is the son of a Nazi.
3. Max Verstappen's father-in-law, Nelson Piquet, has made racist remarks against Lewis Hamilton and made homophobic remarks to Ayrton Senna back in the day. Senna also happens to be Lewis' idol. He was also a loud supporter of the far right, homophobic, misogynist, former Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, who appears to have picked up all his presidential traits from Donald Trump, who he's a close friend of.
4. Max Verstappen's wife, Kelly Piquet is also a vocal supporter of Jair Bolsonaro.
5. Max Verstappen himself used ableist and racist slurs on the radio during F1 races.
6. Also, Max Verstappen fans are automatically Fernando Alonso fans, who turned up to the Spanish grand prix in 2008 in black face with posters of monkeys with the caption, "Hamilton's family".
And Max Verstappen fans are known to constantly make racist remarks about Lewis Hamilton. Ask the reddit mods of any F1 community about it.
And yet he keeps getting away with it. Red Bull fans would talk about MaFIA and Hamilton whining, but if you've followed F1 over the decades, you'll remember all the incidents when Hamilton was penalized by the stewards for the smallest infractions and usually given the harshest penalty for it.
The 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix also showed that the FIA is far from supportive towards Lewis and in fact it's the other way around.
I'm not saying that all Max Verstappen fans are racists or white supremacists or Nazis.
I'm saying that all racists or white supremacists or Nazis who follow F1 are Max Verstappen fans.
That's why I support Lewis Hamilton now.
Edit: Apologies for the error, Kelly Piquet is his girlfriend, not his wife. I thought they were married.
Edit 2: Some more thoughts for the half dozen Max fans who got really annoyed by this.
I'm not saying he's a bad driver. He is perhaps the most talented Formula One driver in history. On the same day and in the same car, Max would beat Lewis more often than not.
But the guy is surrounded by racists and bigots and every bigoted F1 follower I've encountered is a Max fan, and these two facts make me look at him with suspicion.
Lewis fans are loud, theatrical, hysterical people who find conspiracies everywhere but I also see why they've become like that. Having to constantly fight back against racist dogwhistling can take a toll on your mental health.
Daniel Riccardo probably has the most fun fanbase in F1.

A/n: ooooh trouble brewing in paradise! Also I probably didn’t make this clear but Valentina is NOT the girl Lando and Carlos brought back to their place in Brazil in 2021. Isa knows about that and just think’s because Lando and Carlos were interacting with Val beforehand that she’s the girl.

pairing/ship list!
here’s the rules:
1. list your top 7 ships
2. put them in order of your love for them; 7 to 1, 1 being your favourite
3. name their fandom
4. supply photos for said people
Tumblr media
7. tyson jost & jt compher, hockey rpf
sadly there is very minimal interaction between these two anymore, but they came into the NHL as rookies in 2017 and immediately became BEST friends playing together on the worst team in the league. they lived together and did everything together until tyson was traded away from colorado in 2022. jt has also now been traded away just recently.
Tumblr media
6. erik johnson and gabe landeskog, hockey rpf
it’s 2011 and the youngest captain in nhl history gets drafted onto a team with a former number 1 prospect who has just been traded away from his initial team after injuring himself badly, and the two become tight instantly. LOTS of twitter banter occurs, and they play together for 11 years before winning a cup together! sadly, gabe has been out for a year after badly injuring himself during the 2022 playoffs, and ej just got traded away to buffalo, MEANING that the last game they ever played together was the game they won the cup….. sooo damn tragic and poetic
Tumblr media
5. darius garland and donovan mitchell (spidaland), basketball rpf
they’ve only had one season together on the cavs, and sadly fell short in the playoffs, but they’re one of the best guard pairings in the nba for a reason, because they literally have soooooo much chemistry. also they’re ALWAYS touching each other????? like my camera roll is so full of pictures of them hugging
Tumblr media
4. sebastian vettel and kimi räikkönen (simi), f1 rpf
they invented grumpy/sunshine. you can’t drive for ferrari and not get shipped with ur teammate i’m sorry it’s the rules! especially when you have a reputation for being as cold as ice but whenever you’re around him you start smiling… kimi ur not slick!
Tumblr media
3. alain prost and ayrton senna (prosenna), f1 rpf
these two were INSANE. i’m a sucker for a tragic rivalry and they are nothing if not that. the chemistry, the tension, the way alain still talks about ayrton to this day, it all kills me. there’s so much about them we will never know and it drives me up the wall
Tumblr media
2. nikola jokic and jamal murray, basketball rpf
these two oh my goddddd. might mansplain a bit here bc this is not a popular pairing at all — they were drafted to the denver nuggets in 2014 and 2016 respectively, nikola being a nobody from serbia who didn’t get picked until the second round, and jamal being a top 10 pick with all eyes on him. these two built this team on their backs, going from one of the worst teams in the league to finally winning the championship together in 2023 after facing a major setback when jamal tore his acl in 2021. the way they have so much trust in each other and have built a chemistry that has made them the best duo in the league is so dear to me :’) the dynamic is also spectacular - massive cynical european of little words and friendly but bratty short canadian who loves to have a laugh. i think the fact that i got to watch them grow together and that there’s like 5 other people in the world that ship them just make them sooo dear to me
Tumblr media
1. lewis hamilton and nico rosberg (brocedes), f1 rpf
i literally have no words for these two 😭 i feel like i don’t need to explain that much either, because their story is so tragic and so out of a book that everyone already knows it. the intricacies of the way they destroyed each other will haunt me forever.
ok, passing the trend on! tagging @queergrittys @unsolvedjarin @jrueships if any of u are interested :)

Help I'm scared I'm boarding the 4433 ship. Where do I start?
CHERRY?! welcome aboard.
the most important starting point, for me, is a genuine love for both max and lewis as guys and drivers. this will keep you sane. somewhat.
but welcome to a flawed and quick overview of 4433 (Lewis Hamilton/Max Verstappen)
disclaimer: mostly factual with images/gifs/videos.
it starts where it all starts: when they get into each other's orbit. this is Max's entrance to F1.
as we all know, baby max at age 17 entering the prestigious pinnacle of motorsport caused quite a stir. everyone had their thoughts on it. then max promoted to red bull before the spanish gp of 2016. nico and lewis took each other out in that gp and max cruised (with kimi's hot breath in his neck for the last 18 laps) to his very first victory.
everyone talks about max as if he's already a world champion. he's the next gen, people say, the new ayrton senna. the car is for years nowhere good enough, but he gets better and better.
this comes with: sharing podiums and press conferences with lewis hamilton.
their first one is the austrian gp 2016 - lewis p1, max p2 (after having started p9 and lewis crashing part of nico's fron wing).
Tumblr media
in that same season: silverstone (lewis p1, max p2 due to nico's penalty, nico p3); germany (lewis, daniel, max); japan (nico, max, lewis); brazil (lewis, nico, max).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
honorable mention to this shot from malaysia, 2016 post-qualifying press conference:
Tumblr media
second honorable mention to this gif of brazil 2016 where lewis showed a meme to max during press and then this photo that perfectly summarises the highlights of 2016 for me (abu dhabi, 2016):
Tumblr media
SO from this moment on, they get into a sort of constant. a regularity. lewis sets foot on most podiums. max gets to do the same more and more often (we don't speak of 2017). in the beginning, lewis refers to max publicly as 'this guy' or 'this dude'. max wants none of that, so he mentions it to lewis during the chinese gp of 2017.
everyone's on the whole 'maxsplaining' these days but max always had a tendency to do this and lewis was always quite a willing conversational partner (french gp 2018)
also very important mention goes to abu dhabi 2018. podium. lewis just got his back tattooed so he had to show everyone. and max was there, champagne in hand, and thought 'okay then' and sprayed it all under. if that ain't a euphemism, idk what is.
Tumblr media
THEN also important mention is to max always always always acknowledging that lewis is 'one of the greatest drivers ever' or something along those lines (compilation) the fist clip is from this interview in 2020.
it all leads up to 2021, of course. but everything that happens before it is so so so important and fundamental to how they handle 2021. max is praised to the gods for his racing talent and lewis is climbing up the ranks and up the records to become the greatest. i've referred to max as a storm before. a storm that's coming, one that the news predicts and everyone's getting their umbrella's out to prepare for it. so was lewis. lewis could feel the wind picking up, could feel the first raindrops. and he waited. and waited.
and in the mean time: he just. gets along with max.
(hungary 2019 / brazil 2019 / abu dhabi 2019)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(germany 2020 / bahrain 2020 / abu dhabi 2020)
until it was time. 2021. i don't think i have to run through 2021, since i know you've been there. but the build up of lewis knowing that max would be one to watch out for, and max knowing that lewis is an incredibly talented driver who doesn't just let go, is chef's kiss to me. max was always just-not there to actually challenge lewis, and suddenly he was. but bahrain-2021-them could not predict what everything would look like by abu dhabi 2021. they started out like any other season, except max proved to be much more competitive than ever before. then in monaco he takes the championship lead (race 5/22). in silverstone the crash (immediately followed by lewis' boardradio 'is max ok?'), then zandvoort where lewis seems happier than ever to be p2 next to max (cue full-orange outfit on thursday) and monza where everything goes sour again. then they're bitter but okay, until saudi arabia and abu dhabi. and lewis was one of the first to say something long the lines of 'yeah i've been fucked over by the fia, but i don't blame max bc if i were in his position i'd have done the same'. and regardless of everything that happened: before and after every single race they greet each other with a fist bump/handshake/hug. okay so i ran through 2021 anyway whoops.
and 2022 started off right with this small moment between them
but beyond that in 2022: lewis is Not there. mentally. and yet in austria they share a podium, in hungary (pics), in austin and in mexico. they always seek each other out. chat. say hi. listen. joke. have fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and 2023 is the same, except lewis is on the podium more often, they joke more in the press conferences and they're both just so comfortable around each other. they're both the greatest drivers in the sport ever (lewis having been there longer and with much more titles, but max of equal talent and arguably with a more supportive team) and they just like each other. 13 years age difference? who cares. lewis is wearing a ring with number 33 on it to this race. so like. how much more canon can it get?
and yeah, 2021 was a lot. it was intense. it was controversial. but lewis would very much like to fight max again for the title. lewis thinks he's the only one who could. max thinks lewis is the only one who could.
so they're back to how it started. the news predicted a storm. except now max feels the breeze, the rain. and he's ready, he's waiting.
the fics are pretty good too. if you need a headstart: here's a fic rec list i've made. it's a rollercoaster of a ship, but at the end of the day, we always, always win and thrive.

Callum is easygoing and happy, with a ready grin. He’s one of the friendliest people in the paddock with fans and other drivers alike. He’s got the typical dry British sense of humor and can be self-depreciating, except when it comes to his racing. In that area, he is analytical, confident in his own abilities and ready to offer constructive criticism to his team every time he gets out of the car. He built his team up from scratch in 2022, often finishing races higher than his car was capable of and with the addition of a second car and driver, is continuing to lead the way. Rumors abound that he is headed for a bigger and better team in the near future. While his current contract is for several years, only 2023 is guaranteed and there are likely several different options available to him and the team concerning where he will drive.

🏎️💨 THE FORMULA 1 TAG GAME! 🏎️💨
Who or what got you into F1?
i've always been into it mainly because my dad used to watch f1 back when michael & ferrari were dominating the sport, but then he stopped when michael retired the first time? lmao, so me and my brother stopped following the sport as well. i kind of got back into it when seb won his championships at red bull, but the full hyperfixation mode started in the 2021 season.
Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
MICHAEL SCHUMACHER. ever since i was a kid he remains THEE greatest of all time for me and i doubt that that's ever going to change.
Who's your current favorite F1 driver?
charles leclerc, followed VERY closely by max verstappen.
Is there a driver pairing or pairings that you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
max/charles. i am sorry but their lore, their history is just unparalleled.
Do your parents, siblings, or relatives have a favorite team and/or favorite driver(s)?
although my dad doesn't follow the sport as much anymore, he's still a tifoso and he's warming up to the idea of charles restoring the team to its glory (the move charles made on checo in vegas 2023 kind of sealed the deal for him); and my brother.. *sighs* he's a checo fan (THE DISGRACE!).
Do you have any favorite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?
in no particular order: barcelona 2016, monza 2019, silverstone 2019, abu dhabi 2021 (but to be fair, that whole season is one for the ages), australia 2022, austria 2022, vegas 2023 and abu dhabi 2023.
Do you have a favorite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.
monaco, spa francorchamps, imola, monza and red bull ring.
Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.
not yet but I. AM. COOKING.
Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?
no :(
Do you have a favorite F1 car? If so, what is it?
michael's ferrari f2004 and max's rb19 a.k.a 'rocky'.
Do you have a favorite one win wonder?
my favorite baguette: pierre gasly <3
Do you have any favourite quotes from the F1 world? This can be either inspirational or hilarious.
there are so many but these three are the first that come to mind:
"Everybody is a Ferrari fan. Even if they say they’re not, they are Ferrari fans." (Sebastian Vettel)
"Maybe God is with Hamilton, but he's not God." (Max Verstappen)
"By being a racing driver, you are under risks all of the time. By being a racing driver means, you are racing with other people and if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a racing driver." (Ayrton Senna)

thank youuu my beloveds @supercollide & @fueledbyremembering this was incredibly fun <3

Canadian Grand Prix: Max Verstappen would like Fernando Alonso to win if he cannot
Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso have been on the podium together five times so far this season Venue: Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal Dates: 16-18 June Coverage: Live text updates and radio commentary of all sessions on the BBC Sport website & app, with live commentary of the race on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds app from 19:00 BST on Sunday. Full details Max Verstappen says that if he cannot win any race this year, he would like to see Fernando Alonso win it instead. Verstappen's Red Bull team have won all seven races so far this year and he says it is possible they could win them all. But the Dutchman said: "If you ask me one driver who I would like to see win a race, it's him." Verstappen, who leads the drivers' championship by 53 points, said Alonso "deserves it - he is a real racer". Alonso, a two-time champion with Renault in 2005 and 2006, last won a race for Ferrari in 2013. He spent four uncompetitive years with McLaren from 2015-18, stepped away from Formula 1 for two years to compete in endurance racing and at Indianapolis, before returning with Alpine in 2021 and then moving to Aston Martin for 2023. He is third in the championship and has finished on the podium in all but two races so far this year. Verstappen said: "I like him. He never gave up and you can see he loves the sport. Sometimes, after so many years of only having a car that is capable of driving in the midfield, maybe you lose a bit of that love but he is a real racer. He is an animal." Alonso said he was optimistic that Aston Martin would be more competitive in Canada this weekend than they were at the last race in Spain, when they had their weakest performance of the season. "It should be a good weekend," said Alonso, who qualified his Alpine second on the grid in the rain in Montreal last year, with wet weather predicted again for Saturday. "But we also had expectations in Barcelona and we didn't perform that race. We have a couple of new parts. Hopefully we can be a little bit more competitive than Barcelona." Verstappen is hot favourite to win on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday and a victory would be the 41st of his career, drawing him level with Ayrton Senna's total, with just Alain Prost, Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton ahead. Verstappen said it was impossible to compare the two achievements. "People always have different kind of careers," he said. "Maybe some drivers get into a race-winning car sooner than others. Nowadays, we have more races than back in the day so I never really look at the number but as a kid I would never have imagined to be in that list. It is an amazing career for sure but you can't compare it." Verstappen said he understood why those watching F1 would be finding his domination of the sport a turn-off. "It is nice sometimes to have good competition," he sad. "For the sport in general, I understand of course if people get a bit bored if only one team is dominating. We have seen it also in the past with Mercedes and Ferrari and Red Bull. "For sure, I hope that more teams can get together. At least then, even if you have a little issue or whatever or you can't get the set-up fully at 100%, there is another team to win. "It is all about hard work. I appreciated what they were doing. It was super impressive at the time. I never really felt you had to stop that. It was all about trying to work harder and catch up. via BBC Sport - Formula 1 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/

For the most part, F1 has been a generally safe sport in the last decade or so. Sure, we've had bad crashes, Romain Grosjean's in Bahrain 2020, Zhou Guanyu and Max Verstappen's in Silverstone (2022 & 2021 respectively) to name a few but they've all thankfully walked away from them when in the past (before the sport's advancement in technology and safety) they wouldn't have.
Those of you who are newer to the sport or are younger fans, won't know or remember a time where this wasn't the case. In the sport's younger years, it was not uncommon to lose at least three drivers in various crashes over the course of a season. Drivers like Jackie Stewart pushed for more to be done to ensure better safety for drivers, marshals and spectators but it wasn't until the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix that the sport as a whole pushed for better safety.
That ominous race weekend in Imola saw multiple incidents that injured driver Rubens Barrichello as well as mechanics, marshals and spectators alike and horrific crashes that ended the lives of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger. The events of that weekend devasted the sport and it's impact is still felt nearly three decades later. The measures that were taken in the aftermath to improve safety had a substantial impact; the 2000s remain the only decade to date where there were no driver fatalities in F1.
Unfortunately twenty years after that fateful San Marino Grand Prix weekend, Jules Bianchi was involved in a crash at Suzuka, a crash which he sadly never recovered from. He passed away seven years ago today.
Jules' legacy is one that is still being written. He has helped save countless lives due to the safety procedures that were implemented to prevent another crash like his. Romain Grosjean credits those with saving his life in Bahrain. His godson Charles Leclerc, the promised prince of Ferrari, il predestinato is battling for his first world championship with the team they both loved so much. His number, the number 17 was retired in his honor.
I always think of Jules during this time of year and I know he'll not be far from my thoughts in October when F1 returns to Japan for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. The week of the Japanese grand prix also marks the eighth anniversary of his crash. I'll never forget that weekend, that sickening, sinking feeling as I can began to understand that something had gone horrifically, horribly wrong. Those are moments I hope I never see the like of again. Those are the moments I remember every single time I see someone hoping for a driver they dislike to be involved in some sort of crash. Those are moments no one should wish on anyone.
Jules Bianchi... Seven years on, it almost feels like yesterday. People like to talk about the career he could've had in F1 but today let's simply remember the beautiful person we lost. Jules, a beloved son, godfather, friend, etc, who had an undeniable talent and who was taken too soon and is greatly missed.

My Ao3 F1 rpf: I write mostly Seb/Jenson, a little bit of Charles/Max and a tiny wee bit of George/Alex
My personal list of favourite F1 drivers ever because I like to put everything in lists of tens (elevens?) :
1-Juan Manuel Fangio - (1955, 1954) The formula one driver.
2-Max Verstappen - For me he drives as if he caught the Super Star in Mario Kart (Brasil 2016, Spain 2016, Austria 2019, China 2017, 2021, Hungary 2022, 2023)
3-Michael Schumacher - (Japan 2000) he’s just magical
4-Jenson Button - (Canada 2011, Monaco 2009, Brazil 2009) overall the brief history of Brawn GP is so incredible. Update: I just finished watching The Keanu Reeves documentary, omg it’s so good!! update: his book is also very helpful!
5-Sebastian Vettel - (Spa 2012, Brazil 2012, Silverstone 2009) love for winning, love for f1
6-Lewis Hamilton - (Brazil 2008, Silverstone 2020, Portugal 2021, and the way he drives in Catalunya, it's like watching Eric Clapton play the guitar)
7-Mika Häkkinen - (belgium 200) My mum always told me he was so incredible, and a monster of a driver and overall so amazing.
8-Nigel Mansell - (Monaco 1992, Dallas 1984, Barcelona 1991) who else would faint pushing his car to the finish line???
9-Jack Brabham - (underrated engineering legend)
10-James Hunt - (Japan 1976, Monza 1978) I watched Rush when I was 12, okay? And his commentaries in the 90’s were so good.
10.5.5 Charles Leclerc because I’m ✨manifesting✨his home race win 🕯🏎
-
Also— Fun fact for me even if it’s no one’s business: I share my birthday with Ayrton Senna 😌

F2 Champion Felipe Drugovich joins AMF1's Driver Development Programme
The 22-year-old Brazilian won five races to clinch the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship at Monza last weekend and signed his contract with AMF1 on the very day he was crowned champion.
The Driver Development Programme has been designed in concert with AMF1's engineers and management and is intended to provide a stairway for junior drivers to reach Formula One.
As a member of the programme, Felipe will become one of the team's reserve drivers. The team's intention is for him to drive in FP1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (substituting for Lance Stroll) and to also take part in November's young driver test at the Yas Marina Circuit.
For 2023, he will undertake an extensive test programme behind the wheel of the 2021 AMR21 car and will attend selected Grands Prix as a member of the team.
Felipe Drugovich
"Becoming a member of the AMF1 Driver Development Programme is a fantastic opportunity for me – and only adds to what has been an extremely enjoyable and successful 2022 season.
"Winning in Formula 2 has long been regarded as the best possible launchpad into a career in Formula One, and I see my role at AMF1 as giving me all the tools to take that crucial next step.
"For me, 2023 will be a learning curve: I will be working with the F1 team, but my primary goal is to learn and develop as a driver.
"I hope that will give me an opportunity to race in Formula One in the future."
Mike Krack, Team Principal
"Felipe has shown incredible talent, determination, and consistency to win this year's FIA Formula 2 Championship – I particularly remember his fantastic Sprint and Feature victories at Barcelona in May, which were hugely impressive.
"We are delighted that he is joining us as a member of our Driver Development Programme, and we look forward to welcoming him as part of our team in Abu Dhabi this November."
Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman
"I am hugely proud to have inaugurated the AMF1 Driver Development Programme: I am a big believer in rewarding young talent, and this is a fantastic way to help develop the next generation of racing drivers.
"We have watched and admired Felipe's path to success in Formula 2 this year, and we aim to provide him with all the skills and experience necessary to be able to take the next step in his career.
"In the fullness of time, it would be the ultimate validation if he were to become a Formula One driver, joining the great pantheon of Brazilian racing drivers such as Emerson Fittipaldi and Ayrton Senna."
