“I unlatched the shutters. The light was as intense as a love affair. I was blinded, delighted, not just because it was warm and wonderful, but because nature measures nothing. Nobody needs this much sunlight. Nobody needs droughts, volcanoes, monsoons, tornadoes either, but we get them, because our world is as extravagant as a world can be. We are the ones obsessed by measurement. The world just pours it out.”

For all that we hear about how the big 4 are tracking our every move online and know us better than we know ourselves, I have to say that I'm not impressed.
Google just gave me a targeted ad for a candle 🕯 that costs $1150. That's not a typo. They apparently think that I have over a thousand dollars sitting around that I would spend on a single candle. 💰
It is true that I like candles and burn them on a regular basis but not at that level. Even if this candle lasted forever and I would never have to buy another candle in my life, I still wouldn't pay this. Not even if it lit itself without me having to intervene. Nope. Not happening.
Hell, even if I won the lottery tomorrow and had money to burn (pun accidental), I still wouldn't spend it on a single candle. I can think of so many better uses for that amount of cash!
However, if Google is privy to some pile of cash that I own but am not yet aware, I'd be happy to pick out some other items from my wishlist before the end of the year.
And, I do love that they emphasized that my $1000+ candle would come with free shipping. Don't want to waste my money unnecessarily 😂 (maybe if Miyavi were delivering it but otherwise, that's still going to be a NO)

Bezos and other billionaires are so self-involved and disconnected from the world. It's morally reprehensible and obscene. They exploit people for labor, use our assets, resources, and infrastructure to enrich themselves. Then they retreat to their well-protected enclaves, luxury yachts, private jets and ignore the world - the one they used to get rich.
