3,000 cattle die of hypothermia in Brazil, claim Mato Grosso do Sul Veterinarians
Tumblr media
Some 3,000 head of cattle died from hypothermia in Brazil's Mato Grosso do Sul farming state in recent days, according to a statement posted on the website of local veterinary services on Wednesday.
The deceased animals represent a tiny fraction of Brazil's cattle herd of about 224 million head and their deaths and are unlikely to compromise beef production at meatpackers like JBS , which operate in the state. Brazil has become the world's leading exporter of beef and animal protein.
But they drew attention as they are uncommon. Temperatures in the most affected areas ranged from 6 to 9 degrees Celsius, according to local press reports. Alcides Torres, owner of agribusiness consultancy Scot Consultoria, said local cattle breeds can withstand the low temperatures of the country's winter, which started this week.
“Brazil exports live cattle for slaughtering in Turkey below snow,” Torres said. “It was the cold but there was something else.”

What is the role of probiotics in poultry production?
Tumblr media
Probiotics play a crucial role in the poultry industry by promoting the health and productivity of birds. Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit to the host. In poultry, probiotics are primarily used to support gut health, enhance immune function, improve nutrient absorption, and reduce the incidence of diseases.
Are you in search of probiotics for poultry ?

From human Probioics and Probiotic Premixes, Blends & Powders to Aqua Poultry Veterinary products, we have the best collection  for your overall health.
Here are some key aspects of the role of probiotics in the poultry industry:
Gut Health: Probiotics help to maintain a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract of poultry. This balance is essential for proper digestion, absorption of nutrients, and overall gut function. By colonizing the gut mucosa, probiotics can also prevent the colonization of harmful pathogens, such as Salmonella and E. coli, thus reducing the risk of intestinal infections.
Immune Function: Probiotics can modulate the immune system of poultry, enhancing both innate and adaptive immune responses. They stimulate the production of immune mediators such as cytokines and antibodies, which help to combat pathogens and strengthen the bird's resistance to diseases. Improved immune function can lead to reduced reliance on antibiotics for disease prevention and treatment.
Nutrient Absorption: By improving the health and functionality of the intestinal epithelium, probiotics can enhance the absorption of nutrients from feed, including proteins, vitamins, and minerals. This can result in better growth rates, improved feed efficiency, and higher productivity in poultry flocks.
Stress Management: Poultry production environments can be stressful for birds due to factors such as overcrowding, transportation, and changes in diet. Probiotics have been shown to help mitigate the negative effects of stress by promoting the production of stress-reducing neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, as well as by modulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
Antibiotic Alternatives: With growing concerns about antibiotic resistance and the use of antibiotics in animal agriculture, probiotics offer a natural and sustainable alternative for promoting poultry health and performance. Probiotic supplementation can help to reduce the reliance on antibiotics for disease prevention and growth promotion, thus contributing to the overall reduction of antibiotic usage in the poultry industry.
Improved Performance and Production: Studies have demonstrated that supplementation with probiotics can lead to improved growth rates, higher egg production, and better feed conversion ratios in poultry. These performance benefits translate to increased profitability for poultry producers.
In summary, probiotics play a multifaceted role in the poultry industry, offering benefits such as improved gut health, enhanced immune function, better nutrient absorption, stress management, antibiotic alternatives, and overall improvements in performance and production. As the poultry industry continues to prioritize animal welfare, sustainability, and food safety, the use of probiotics is likely to become even more widespread and integral to modern poultry production practices.

National Residues Control Program Public Consultation
Tumblr media
Public Consultation on National Residues Control Programme Charges
The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) announced today, a public consultation on the proposed changes to charges for the National Residues Control Programme (NRCP). The revisions aim to enable UK, Scottish, and Welsh Governments to continue recovering the full costs of implementing the NRCP.
A Closer Look at the NRCP
The NRCP is a statutory program that helps identify residues of banned substances, veterinary medicines, and contaminants in animal-origin products destined for the food chain. Over 30,000 random samples such as eggs, milk, red meat, poultry meat, and farmed fish are collected and analyzed annually in Great Britain.
The Cost of Ensuring Safety
Currently, the VMD invoices food business operators £5m per annum to cover the costs of the NRCP, prices that have remained constant for over a decade. However, due to a projected rise in contractor procurement costs, these are expected to increase to £6.1 million by 2026.
Proposed Changes and Their Implications
To manage this expected rise, the VMD proposes to incrementally increase these statutory charges over the next two financial years. This move ensures full cost recovery, as mandated by the HMT. These changes not only safeguard public health but also reassure the UK’s trading partners about the quality and safety of exported animal-origin products, supporting international trade worth billions to the UK economy.
The Consultation Process
The consultation, running for ten weeks, can be accessed directly through Citizen Space or by visiting the VMD's new engagement website. Abi Seager, Veterinary Medicines Directorate CEO, emphasized, "The NRCP is fundamental to providing assurance to the UK’s trading partners about the quality and safety of exported products of animal origin. The proposed changes will ensure that we can continue to run this important program."
In Summary
The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has initiated a public consultation on proposed charges for the National Residues Control Programme (NRCP), which safeguards the safety and quality of animal-origin products in the UK. The VMD aims to recover costs, as required by the HMT, by incrementally raising charges over two years due to expected procurement cost increases. This move ensures global confidence in the quality of UK exports. The VMD's transparency is evident through a ten-week public consultation. These changes are crucial for both public health and supporting international trade, making them relevant to a global audience concerned with food safety and trade standards. Brazil confirms bird flu in main poultry-producing state
Tumblr media
According to Brazil’s Official Veterinary Service, 2 new outbreaks have been confirmed in the country, this time in the state of Paraná, a state that accounts for 35% of Brazil’s poultry production.
The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply updated the number of cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in wild birds to 48 in the country. The first case of avian flu in Brazil was registered on 15 May.
The discovery of the disease in wild birds in Paraná – one was in the city of Pontal do Paraná and the other in Antonina municipality – highlights another warning sign as the state is the country’s largest producer and exporter of chicken meat. In 2022, the state accounted for 35.54% of Brazilian production, according to data from ABPA (Brazilian Association of Animal Protein).
So far, only wild birds have been affected, and no cases of the disease have been registered in poultry from commercial production farms or in subsistence farming, according to the Ministry.

3.2. Why did prion infections occur in cattle?
The occurrence of prion infections in cattle, which are normally associated with sheep and deer, was unusual. It had never been seen in cattle before, leading to speculation that there must have been an external factor.
In the early 1980s, the British livestock industry began using bone meal to increase milk and meat production. Meat meal is ground up unprofitable parts (bones, heads, tails, etc.) that are fed to cattle, which are herbivores. It's not just that cows, which are herbivores, ate meat,[12] but there are strong suspicions that bone meal from sheep with scrapie, or even bone meal from cows that died of mad cow disease, was used in the process. This bone meal was exported outside of the UK, and in the US, roadkill was also used to make bone meal, which may have contributed to the problem.
This theory of bioaccumulation was introduced in Korea in 2001, so it's nothing new. Dr. Heejong Woo, professor at Seoul National University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Eventually, the hypothesis that persistent prion accumulation led to abnormal symptoms in cattle, and that the disease was initially referred to as Mad Cow Disease because the cause was unknown, has gained considerable support.

Disinfectant Spray Exporters – Its important aspects as a cleaning agent
A disinfectant is a substance or process that is used mainly on non-living objects (such as hard surfaces) to kill germs, such as viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms that can source infection and disease. Disinfectants are a significant part of infection control measures to decrease the risk of bacterial and viral transmission.
A disinfectant spray is a liquid chemical disinfectant supplied by the disinfectant spray exporters in a bottle or container with a spray function generally operated by a handle or trigger button. Disinfectant sprays are used nearly anywhere and hard surfaces need to be kept clean and free of harmful bacteria and viruses.
Some important aspects of the disinfectant sprays
Disinfectant sprays generally require a “dwell time” on surfaces to be operative. This means that once sprayed over the anticipated area, the disinfectant spray must continue in contact with the surface for some time to efficiently disinfect it. To confirm maximum disinfection, check the label of your disinfectant spray for its stated dwell time and follow the instructions provided.
Medical and clinical surroundings such as hospitals, surgeries, and veterinary practices use high-impact long-lasting disinfectant sprays. Other disinfection products that can be used anywhere comprise PDI Universal Disinfecting Wipes, which are dosed with a 2-step detergent and disinfectant that kills possibly infectious agents in seconds.
How does disinfectant spray work?
Disinfectant sprays hold antimicrobial agents that work by ending microorganisms living on surfaces.
Examples of chemicals usually used in disinfectant sprays comprise:
Alcohol
Chlorine or chlorine compounds
Formaldehyde
Glutaraldehyde
Quaternary ammonium compounds
Phenolics
Hydrogen peroxide
Iodophors
Peracetic acid
Disinfectant sprays that comprise these chemicals are advanced to kill potentially infectious agents and reduce their number in a specific area.
What is disinfectant spray used for?
Common disinfectant spray uses comprise:
Domestic disinfectant spray uses:
To make hygienic kitchen countertops, chopping boards, cupboard door handles, etc.
To disinfect domestic fridges and clean bins.
To clean bathrooms, comprising sinks, taps, plugholes, showers, toilet roll holders, toilet seats, basins, and handles.
To disinfect corner points in living rooms such as blind pulls, TV remotes, door handles, and light switches.
To disinfect office articles such as office chairs, computer mice, keyboards, phones, and mobile devices.
Professional disinfectant spray uses:
Hospitals and medical treatment environments, comprising ambulances and first-aid treatment areas
Care homes
Commercial kitchens
Factories
Hospitality businesses such as restaurants and hotels
Airports and commercial planes
Two important parts of the disinfectant spray
Does disinfectant spray clean completely?
It’s significant to understand that while disinfectant sprays are formulated to kill bacteria and germs, disinfecting an area with disinfectant spray does not essentially clean dirty surfaces or remove germs. Some disinfectant sprays also act as a sterilizing cleaner, like our Steroclenz Rapid product, which will disinfect an area while lifting and eliminating debris, dried liquid, and dirt and cleaning it entirely.
Does disinfectant spray kill viruses?
This mainly depends on the type of disinfectant spray you use, so always check the manufacturer’s direction and the label. In general, disinfectant sprays work by abolishing the bacterium genome and preventing it from duplication. Disinfectant sprays comprising polymeric biguanide hydrochloride, such as Steroclenz Rapid, can kill bacteria, fungi, parasites and firm viruses with certainty.

Kyiv hopes to accelerate grain transit through Poland by moving border checks to Lithuanian port
Ukraine stated on Tuesday it hoped to speed up exports of grain and other agricultural products by moving some border checks to the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda.
Under a wartime agreement reached in Lithuania and Poland, Ukrainian agricultural cargo destined for delivery to the world from Klaipeda no longer undergoes veterinary and sanitary checks at the transit border with Poland.
Instead, mandatory checks will be carried out in Klaipeda, which is located in the Baltic Sea, Ukraine’s Agriculture Ministry informs.
After talks with Polish and Lithuanian ministers Robert Telus and Kyastutis Navickas, Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Solskiy stated:
This will speed up transit through the territory of Poland. Robert Telus and Kyastutis Navickas noted that their governments support such a control mechanism and consider it a constructive step.

What is the role of government policies in the Indian dairy industry?
Tumblr media
Introduction
The dairy industry in India has been a cornerstone of the nation's agricultural landscape for centuries. It plays a vital role in the livelihood of millions of farmers and provides a stable source of nutrition for the ever-growing population. However, the Indian dairy industry's success and growth can be largely attributed to the strategic government policies that have been implemented over the years. In this article, we will explore the multifaceted role of government policies in shaping and sustaining the dairy industry in India.
Historical Perspective
India's dairy industry has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Traditionally, dairying was an integral part of the agrarian economy, primarily aimed at meeting household needs. However, with the advent of modern dairy practices and increasing urbanization, the dairy sector began to transform. It was the vision of the Indian government and its policy interventions that played a pivotal role in this transformation.
To know more about : -
White Revolution: Operation Flood
One of the most significant milestones in the Indian dairy industry's history was the White Revolution, also known as Operation Flood. Launched in 1970, this program aimed to increase milk production and make dairy farming a profitable venture for rural households. It introduced the concept of milk cooperatives, facilitating the procurement, processing, and marketing of milk. Government support in the form of infrastructure development, veterinary services, and subsidized cattle feed helped farmers improve their milk yield.
Operation Flood's success can be attributed to the government's active involvement in creating an enabling environment for dairy development. By 1996, India had become the world's largest milk producer, surpassing the United States. This initiative uplifted the socioeconomic status of countless farmers and encouraged them to engage in dairy farming as a sustainable livelihood.
Subsidies and Financial Incentives
To promote dairy farming, the Indian government has consistently offered various subsidies and financial incentives. These incentives cover areas such as cattle rearing, dairy equipment, and infrastructure development. Subsidized loans and grants have made it more accessible for small and marginal farmers to invest in dairy-related activities, thereby boosting milk production.
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services
Ensuring the health and well-being of dairy animals is crucial for maintaining milk production. Government policies have supported the establishment of veterinary clinics and the distribution of vaccines and medicines at affordable rates. This not only safeguards the health of dairy animals but also enhances the quality of milk produced.
Milk Price Regulation
The government has also played a role in regulating milk prices to protect both farmers and consumers. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for milk ensures that farmers receive a fair price for their produce. On the other hand, price controls help prevent unreasonable price hikes for consumers, making milk and dairy products more affordable for the masses.
Quality Standards and Food Safety
Ensuring the quality and safety of dairy products is paramount. The government has implemented strict quality standards and food safety regulations for dairy processing units. This not only enhances consumer confidence but also opens up opportunities for the export of Indian dairy products to international markets.
Research and Development
Investment in research and development (R&D) has been instrumental in improving dairy farming practices in India. Government-funded institutions and organizations have worked on developing high-yielding cattle breeds, better cattle nutrition, and advanced dairy processing techniques. These innovations have contributed to increased milk production and enhanced product quality.
Challenges and Future Directions
While government policies have undoubtedly played a crucial role in the growth of the Indian dairy industry, there are still challenges to overcome. Rapid urbanization and changing dietary preferences are increasing the demand for dairy products, creating opportunities for further expansion. However, these opportunities come with the challenges of managing the environmental impact of dairy farming, ensuring the welfare of dairy animals, and sustaining the income of small and marginal farmers.
To address these challenges and ensure the long-term sustainability of the dairy sector, the government needs to continue its proactive role. This includes investing in research and development to improve productivity and sustainability, promoting modern dairy practices, and enhancing infrastructure for dairy processing and distribution.
Conclusion
The dairy industry in India, the Indian dairy industry's journey from subsistence farming to global prominence is a testament to the pivotal role of government policies. Initiatives like Operation Flood and ongoing support through subsidies, veterinary services, and quality standards have transformed dairy farming into a thriving sector that supports millions of livelihoods and provides affordable nutrition to the nation. As India continues to grow, the government's commitment to the dairy industry remains essential for ensuring food security, economic development, and the well-being of its people.
