one of the only reasons that anyone at school knows who he is aside from his good looks is because of his well-liked and popular best friend. however, if not for the aforementioned best friend, he'd be feared by the few who'd know him. because of his best friend's reputation making him well-known as well, he's now feared by nearly everyone. why? because he never talks to anyone, choosing to instead glare at them, (he's either scared of talking to people or just tired) is constantly mean or overly straightforward, (only to his friends) and has the coldest glares anyone has ever seen. (he spaces out a lot and people think hes looking at them.) he's always angry about something, (he has an rbf) and a lot of people say that if you dont bother him, he won't bother you, but he hates so many people for so many random reasons, that there's no real way to find out if you're one of the hated. (he probably doesn't even know the name of whoever he "hates.") everyone knows that they should stay clear of him unless they want a beating, verbal or maybe physical. a couple of rumors have circulated that he once beat up someone in a fit of rage. (his best friend was pissing him off) he doesn't talk to many people, (he's just antisocial) and he often just stands around on his phone or just stands there, doing nothing but glaring at everyone who walks by. (he forgot his phone and is just spacing out) everyone is scared of him, and everyone makes sure not to get on his bad side. (what bad side?) so they never ever would've guessed that here he is, coming home after a long day and softly burying his head into his lover's chest, mumbling an "i love you" as they play with his pretty locks, lulling him to sleep. they never would've envisioned his said lover chuckling to themselves and wondering how anyone could ever think that this absolute sweetheart (sometimes sweetheart) of a man could ever find himself hating anyone. (except for the best friend. man, they get on his nerves sometimes.)

─ Summary: You only got distracted for a second and the team is now… little kids?

Today the coach had been absent, as he commented on the phone he had caught the flu, so the only one in charge of the training today were you, you had a sheet full of things that they had to practice today and you were already running late —as always— but that wasn't the only thing you should worry about. As soon as you closed the door, you felt a tug on youtr pants, surprised, you lowered your gaze to open your eyes to the maximum, there was a boy of about seven or eight years crying while pronouncing your last name, but the strange thing was that that boy looked a lot like Yahaba.

"What the…?"

Your eyes traveled the entire court and you would have sworn you had run out of breath in those moments, the entire team were small children running around with volleyballs, not to mention their clothing, their typical uniform now fit like dresses. Before you could take anything in, you remembered that the mini Yahaba was crying and you rushed to pick him up.

"Yahaba, what happened?"

He just shrugged his shoulders trying to calm his crying, which he more or less managed. You sat on a bench, propping the little boy on your lap as wiped away his tears, noticing that he had a few scrapes on his hands and knees.

"How did you do that?"

"Ken-Kentaro…"

You sighed and grabbed everything you needed to heal the little one, when you finished you left him so he could continue playing with the other children. You walked towards the dyed kid, who was hitting the ball hard against the wall, his brows were still frowning as always, being so small he didn't intimidate so much, he looked more like a small angry puppy, which seemed cute in a certain way.

"Kentaro, you can't push your teammates."

You only received a grunt in response.

'What does that mean?'

You sweated as noticed that he was now hitting the ball even harder, if that was possible for someone his current age.

"Why don't you go play with them?"

"They don't want to."

You were surprised to hear him, even as a child his voice was deep and raspy. You crouched down to be level with him placing a hand on his head, slowly stroking his strands to try to keep him from being so angry.

"Kentaro, surely they don't want to hurt themselves when playing, just try to be less rough with them."

He growled again in response, seeing that it wouldn't amount to much that way, so you played with him —strangely, he didn't complain— for a while you were playing with the ball until you heard a small cry. You ran when you saw how the little ones gathered in a circle surrounding a mini Matsukawa who was crying.

"What happened?"

Concerned, you crouched down taking the child in yourr arms, patting lightly to get him to calm down as soon as possible.

"I-It hurts."

He pointed to his ankle which seemed slightly swollen. You gave them a reassuring smile so they could continue playing but more carefully, you sat Mattsun on the ground to apply a special cream, in less than an hour he should be in perfect condition to continue running from one place to another.

"You must wait at least half an hour."

"But that's boring! I want to play!"

You thought of something to entertain the wounded kid, the best thing was to give him your phone so he could watch some videos on YouTube, so he would be entertained for a while. You let your body slide next to Mattsun, you wanted to rest for a while, the children kept running non-stop after some balls —they seemed full of inexhaustible energy— everyone, except Kunimi, he was lying on the bench sleeping as usual. You sighed holding the little one so that he wouldn't hurt his back, you snuggled him into your arms so that he would be more comfortable caressing his back gently, this made mini Kunimi hug your body. Without thinking, you two fell asleep.

"I tell you it's true!"

"No, she prefers me."

Hanamaki pouted, crossing his arms.

"No, I'm (Nn)'s favorite!"

"I'm sure I'm her favorite…"

Iwaizumi muttered throwing a ball towards Oikawa to make him shut up and stop making a fuss, he had promised you that he would take care of the kids ─even he being one─ while you were away for a few minutes. You went to the nearest convenience store, you had skipped practically every class trying to find something that would turn the kids into teenagers again, although you wouldn't deny that they were too cute that way.

You walked swaying back and forth grabbing all sorts of things for the team, surely they are hungry after playing for most of the morning. You paid for the snacks, going back to the gym only to find the group of kids yelling at each other. You dropped the bags to run "

"Can you tell why you argue?"

You crossed your arms waiting for an answer, but you were completely ignored, as the discussion continued as if your presence had not been noticed.

"I'm the favourite!"

"Shut up shittykawa."

"No, she prefers me, me!"

"Sorry Makki, I'm her favorite, she even left me her phone to play."

There was a grunt that sounded like denial, followed by a scratchy voice.

“She played with me."

“She take a nap with me."

"She carried me and healed my scratches."

Kindaichi seemed to want to cry for not having any interaction while Watari comforted him with pats on his back. You were a little dazed by the screams. '

'Are they arguing over who is my favourite?'

You were going to start talking again so they would stop yelling at each other, as quickly as you opened your mouth you closed it as felt something clinging tightly to one of your leg.

"(Nn) say I'm your favorite."

"No, no, say that I am your favorite."

Then they all ended up surrounding your legs, you all ended up on the ground hugging you as if you were going to extinguish, demanding to know who was your favourite.

"Guys I don't have a favorite."

There was silence for a few seconds until everyone burst into tears. They whimpered your name, clunging to you more —if possible— making you sigh, you liked the baby team but one day with them was enough for you to want the older ones back. As you could, you sat up, putting the boys in a semicircle so you could look at them all.

"Let's see, you all have something special and I love you all equally."

You got up to ruffle everyone's hair along with a kiss on the forehead and a hug, making them completely relax. All the energy they had seemed to have run out, now they were all talking while they ate quietly, you looked at them taking advantage of the fact that they were distracted you went to the bathroom to do your business. The surprise was when you returned to the court, everyone was now normal students and not children who yelled at each other.

'Thank God, I already thought I would have to adopt them'

You couldn't contain the happiness of the moment so you ended up hugging the closest boy, who turned out to be Kindaichi.

"A-ah- (N) why did you do that?"

"Sorry, I'm just happy."

You smiled, patting him on the head, leaving Kindaichi completely out of action, not used to female contact, you already missed being short next to him.

"(Nn) I want a hug too!"

"Trashykawa..."

Heey :), I'm new to the whole writing thing but i decided to give it a chance with some fic ideas i had. I plan on making this one a multiple chapter story depending on how it goes. I will also say beforehand that this story will eventually contain smut. Some will be explicit and some won't. Also, this contains manga spoilers regarding kageyamas family and stuff so if you mind spoilers please don't read this :)

The start of the school year meant fresh starts for most, yet for you, it marked the daunting prospect of navigating a new environment where familiarity was limited. Coming from Kitagawa Daiichi, the likelihood of encountering any former classmates at Karasuno seemed slim as it was located on the outside of the city. Although many of your peers enrolled at Aobajohsai, your heart remained steadfast in the desire to follow in your late father's footsteps by attending Karasuno. Thus, on the very first day of high school first year, you found herself seated in solitude during lunchtime, surrounded by your classmates engrossed in their own groups.

Looking down at your cold food you decided to go for a walk and explore the grounds you´d have to go through for the next 3 years. you weren´t that brave to go to the second- and third-years floor so you mostly walked around the school’s first and ground floor. Once outside, you started to hear people talking and a ball hitting something, and being the noisy person you were, you got closer until you reached a passageway leading to a gymnasium. That's when you saw a boy with orange hair and another with silver hair playing with a volleyball. Making sure they couldn’t see you, you watched them toss the ball around practicing bumps. It was obvious the orange haired one was a newbie since all the balls he hit where going anywhere except in the direction of the silver haired one. Unexpectedly one specific toss ended going your way making both boys aware of your presence.

“Hey, can you pass that?” said the orange haired boy.

“Hinata be more respectful” scolded the other one “Sorry, don’t mind him. Could you please pass us the ball?” he said looking at you.

“Sure, are you guys from the volleyball team?” you asked passing the ball to Hinata.

“Yes” he answered loudly “Well, not yet but I will be”

“I hope you aren’t the libero then” you tried to crack a joke.

“Oh, you know how to play?” said silver hair

“I just know the basics, I used to be a manager in my old school” answered the girl smiling awkwardly

“Really!?” screamed the boy “What school did you go to?”

“Hm.. Kitagawa daiichi” you said in a low tone watching the boy’s face drop a little.

“The king’s school? But I didn’t see you at the match the last tournament” you cringed a little over the nickname and the mood dropped visibly.

“Yeah, by that time I already quit managing for the team” you responded quietly

“Shoyo, I think it’s time for you to go back to class or you’ll be late. I’m Sugawara koushi by the way, nice to meet you” he said grabbing the younger boys shoulders, and you thanked him mentally for changing the subject.

“Oh sorry, I’m (Y/N) nice to meet you senpai” you said noticing the boys shoe color.

“I’m Hinata Shoyo, please be our manager” he introduced himself while being dragged by the older boy.

“I’ll think about it” you almost to herself since the boys already left.

Then you started thinking about how you didn’t expect to hear that nickname ever again. You obviously knew who Hinata was referring to since you still talked to most of theteammates you had back at Kitagawa daiichi and knew what happened back in the tournament Hinata talked about. You hurried and took out your phone and messaged Kunimi to ask him about your new acquaintance.

-Hey Aki, do you happen to know a short guy with orange hair? You played against him last year probably-

After hitting send you quickly went back to class, not without the feeling that something was off.

Not long after the initial encounter with the two boys, you found yourself repeatedly bumping into them in the hallways and even at the exact spot where youfirst met. You often joined them during their practice sessions, and it became somewhat of a routine for the week.

"I never asked, but why are you practicing during your free period? Don't you have official club hours at the gymnasium?" you inquired, sipping from a carton of milk you had purchased from the vending machine.

"Well, technically, I'm not in the club," Hinata responded. "Didn't you hear about the incident with the subdirector?"

"Oh my god, that was you?" youexclaimed, laughing. "I heard about it from some girls in my class. But that still doesn't explain why you're practicing out here."

"It's sort of like a penalty. Tomorrow, they have to play against the other two first-years who joined the club. If they win, they get to stay in," Suga explained.

"Wait, they? Who else has to play?"

“Another first year that was involved on the incident”

"The king, Kageyama. Do you know him? He also went to your school" Hinata interjected with a sour expression.

At the mention of that name, you paused for a moment, your breath catching in your throat. Your expression must have shifted noticeably, as the senpai's next words were, "Hey, are you alright? You look like you've seen a ghost."

"Yes, sorry, I have to go now," the girl hurriedly responded, quickly making her exit, leaving the two boys behind.

It couldn't be, you thought. He shouldn't be at this school. Why would he? After treating you the way he did, how could he choose the high school you had told him so many times you would attend?

Lost in your thoughts, you collided with a solid figure, nearly stumbling backward. Thankfully, you were caught just in time by the person you bumped into. Looking up, you was about to apologize until you recognized the boy standing in front of you.

"You."

Kageyama hadn't anticipated having to confront her so soon. Well, truth be told, he didn't often think things through. But in that moment, he wished he had at least considered what he might say if they ran into each other.

“Hi” he said like he was out of breath “I-”

"Keep it," spat the girl before he could say anything else. She turned around sharply, her footsteps echoing as she strode away, leaving Kageyama standing there, speechless, with a weighty silence enveloping the space between them.

He couldn’t do much except return to class and contemplate what to say in case he happened to see you again. However, he didn’t expect to be questioned by Hinata about you.

"How do you know her?" he scowled.

"Suga senpai and I met her the first day while practicing. She's been coming to keep us company ever since. She's super nice and knows how to play volleyball. It's too bad she doesn’t want to be part of the club," responded Hinata. "Do you know her?"

"Of course I know her, dumbass. We went to the same school, and she managed our club," he retorted.

"Weren't you friends? Why are you making such an ugly face? You’re gonna end up like that permanently if you don’t stop," said the boy, completely serious.

"Shut up, you idiot. How come you’ve been practicing all week and you are shittier than before?" countered the raven-haired boy

"You shut up. This is all your fault. Why did you even come to this school?" he said defensively.

"It's none of your business. If you’re not going to shut up, you can practice alone. Not like you’re going to get any better," said the raven-haired boy before storming off.

Kageyama never envisioned himself attending Karasuno in the first place. His initial preference was clearly Shiratorizawa, but without the recommendation letter and failing all the entrance exams by a wide margin, it remained an unattainable dream. Aoba Johsai was also out of the question; he couldn’t fathom playing alongside his former teammates after the fallout from their last match in elementary school, not to mention the potential blow to his ego from encountering his old senpais. However, upon hearing of Coach Ukai's return, he concluded that Karasuno was his best option, even if it meant potentially seeing her every day.

Truth be told, he caught sight of her on the very first day of the opening ceremony. Amidst the sea of unfamiliar faces, he couldn’t help but seek her out. She appeared paler and thinner than the last time he saw her, back when he uttered those regrettable words, instructing you to stay away from him. Following that incident, she left the club, and he didn’t get a hold on her even at graduation. He regretted those words the moment they left his lips, but it was too late; she departed while tears streamed down her face.

He was too ashamed to talk to (Y/N), so during the first week, he did everything in his power to avoid her. Choosing longer routes to ensure they wouldn't cross paths, delaying his departure from home until he was certain she hadn't left hers – all because they were neighbors. He couldn't fathom how the two of them never crossed paths during the holidays before the start of school. At one point, he even wondered if her family had moved after her father's passing. Throughout the summer, his sister scolded him for not reaching out to her, but he honestly didn't know what to say. Although he attended the funeral with his family, he left before she could spot him, convinced he didn't deserve her forgiveness.

He couldn't bring himself to approach her and ask for forgiveness. After losing his grandfather, he felt lost, and truth be told, he still did. Yet, amidst his constant mood changes, she remained by his side, a fact he was too blind to acknowledge. All the efforts (Y/N) made to distract him from his loss, and he lacked the courage to express how sorry he was for her own. He only knew of her because she kept in contact with his sister, and he was somewhat relieved knowing she had someone like his sister to provide comfort.

Why did everything have to be this difficult? He couldn’t help but think.

Rainy days with the Haikyuu Characters

A/N: A few days ago it rained in my area and I was upset because i couldn't go out, yeah this is very short but enjoy!! :)

is a sad bean, he wants to go outside and explore new places, or simply just wants to jog, he hates rain and is grumpy whenever you mention the bad weather

they don't really mind the rain, continue to have the same daily routine even if it's raining outside, loves going on walks with you while it's raining (always brings an umbrella so your outfits aren't ruined)

loves spending quality time with you and if it's raining outside it's even better because you two can spend the whole day together reading, baking, watching TV shows, doing chores around the house + online shopping!!!

loves rain because he can stay indoors for the whole day (you have to force him to come outside with you), would much rather stay inside and clean the house, play games, cook etc, than go outside

paper rings has a childlike whimsy that suits kindaichi & kunimi’s relationship perfectly

half of the lyrics seem like things kindaichi would say to kunimi w full earnesty too

“i’m with you even if it makes me blue” and “wrap your arms around me, baby boy” !!!

(kunimi calls it “corny”, kindaichi calls it “romantic”, both with dumbass, lovestruck smiles on their faces)

“i hate accidents except when we went from friends to this” is 100% kunimi though, he doesn’t like surprises and events that require him to exert extra effort, but for kindaichi? he’s more than okay with it

the whole song is just so sugary sweet and shamelessly adorable and at the end of the day that’s what kinkuni is! (at least behind closed doors, bc they get embarrassed sometimes)

and bc i can’t leave my boy out, it should be noted that watari shinji is a red man to his very CORE. you bet your ass on his twenty-second birthday he was blasting 22 like his life depends on it

He is literally so distraught you would have thought she died. You see him go through all the stages of grief except for acceptance. “She’s growing up too fast.” She’ll be like eighteen. Just doesn’t like the thought of losing his little girl. When she’s on her first date he’ll lay on you all sad as you stroke his hair.

“She’s really growing up, huh?”

“Yeah, she is,” you say.

“We should have a new kid then.”

“What?”

“Joking! Joking,” he’s not.

He doesn’t really care. He trusts your daughter and knows she’s responsible enough to make her own decisions. The way he loves you is an example of what she wants in life and he knows she won’t settle for less. So, therefore, when he meets the boyfriend he’s really friendly until he pulls the boy aside promising, “hurt her and I’ll kill you,” with a comforting smile.

Very involved. He will help her pick out her outfit for the date if you’re not available. Drive her to the location, giving her advice along the way. Keeps his phone on the whole time so that if she needs him to take her home, he’s ready to go at a moment's notice. He’ll ask her how it went and listen for as long as he wants to talk to him about it. His little girl isn’t so little anymore, and that means she’s not going to need him as much, but he’s always going to be there when she does.

Please he is not a graceful faller at all he goes down like a ton of bricks

Iwaizumi is pissed off and everyone is simply stunned

"SHITTY-KAWA WHAT THE HELL!"- Iwaizumi, throwing a ball at the back of Oikawa's head as he lay face planted on the floor

Suddenly, the guys hear a straining laugh

Literally it sounds like someone is in pain because they took a huge gulp of air and they can't breath

Iwaizumi's head whips to you only to see you doubled over in laughter on the floor

I mean can't breath, rolling on the floor, dying of laughter

Kunimi ran to get his phone 📱

Kindaichi is too shocked to move

Mattsun and Makki are just smiling 😃

Maddog is trying hard not to laugh while Watari is covering his mouth to suppress his

Oikawa is still flat on the floor

Seriously someone should check on him

You slowly get up, clenching you stomach from laughing so hard and wander to Oiks

He looks up at you, blood running down his face which only makes you laugh harder ad you collapse besides him 😂😭

"Oh my god Oikawa are you ok?"- you say dating of laughter but trying to be supportive

"You- YN, you're laughing!"- Oikawa, a cocky smirk reaching his face 😏

"How could I not! You fell over like a dead tree in the forest Toru!"- you still clenching your stomach

"Well I had this all planned out just to make you smile YN. I'm glad it worked out"- Oikawa

"You absolutely did not have this planned out"- Mattsun

Iwaizumi is palming his face as you help Oikawa up 🤦‍♂️

"I told you all I'd make YN smile"- Oikawa, obviously way too pleased with his efforts 😂

As Oikawa goes to walk out gracefully, he totally trips on another ball

Sending you and the team into yet another fit of laugher 🤣

idk if anyone is here for hq analysis text posts in 2023 nor do I know if something like this has been made before but. it wouldn't leave my head so here. my attempt at a cohesive analysis of the kageyama/hinata/atsumu/osamu dynamic (note: this isn't meant in a shippy way at all. any relationship as complex and narratively juicy as this is great shipping material I know but for this post I wanna keep things canon)

for the sake of something like brevity (lol), I won't delve into the kageyama/hinata partnership here. I assume you watched/read the series and I don't need to explain how they're both partners and rivals. it's the core relationship of the story, after all. also, the twins are twins, and aran spelled out their dynamic and relationship pretty nicely in their flashback, so...

let's start with kageyama and atsumu, the first ones who cross paths outside of their partnerships. as we know, they don't exactly get along great at youth camp. they don't fight, but atsumu makes himself seem like an ass immediately by calling kageyama's playstyle that of a goody-two-shoes. to the reader, this feels like an incredible insult because the way kageyama plays has been developed through some hard-earned character development spanning the entire series so far. we're meant to conclude he's wrong and will be proven so in a future game.

except this is not at all what the interaction is about, or what it will lead to. we don't actually understand the conflicting perspectives here until after the timeskip. what this is is a misunderstanding between two very similar people whose experiences differ in one key aspect. both of them are setters who are incredibly talented and extremely dedicated to volleyball. both are blunt, and not afraid to point out other people's shortcomings. both of them have essentially been friendless and outcast on their middle school teams because of this.

there is just one key difference: kageyama has been desperately looking for someone better ever since his grandpa promised he'd find them, while atsumu has spent his entire volleyball career with "someone better" right at his side. at this point, kageyama only knows failure and rejection in that regard. his sister quit volleyball. his grandpa died. oikawa and iwaizumi had their own thing going on and were never really in his reach. kindaichi couldn't keep up, and kunimi absolutely wasn't willing to.

he's got hinata now, but the harsh truth is that while he's kageyama's partner, he's not "someone better" at this point. this is because he kinda sucks at volleyball even if he's rapidly learning. and this one, simple difference changed everything. when kageyama is too arrogant and demanding, his team rejects him, and he's alone and unable to play. when atsumu does the same, he still has osamu who will sit with him and make an effort to pull him into the group. and he's always got proof that he's not asking too much, because of course osamu can hit all of atsumu's sets. when kageyama is too harsh on his hitters, nobody can really handle it and people get scared, so he tones himself down. when atsumu does the same, osamu yells at him and fights with him, until atsumu gets his point, and the rest of the team sees it as a fun twin squabble, endearing rather than scary.

but the thing is, neither of them know anything about the other, and atsumu speaks with the absolute confidence of someone who only knows volleyball like this. he's got "someone better" privilege and he just doesn't know that's a thing one can have. (he actually has this over others, too, including hinata before he had a team. having to run alone is a common thing among the volleyball obsessed.) but with his perspective, unexplained and badly phrased as it may be, kageyama manages to grow yet again, with hinata crowning him king of the court again as he realizes he can demand things from his hitters and they'll answer him (and to this day, atsumu is totally clueless he kickstarted it, and also that osamu taught him the same).

but as the years pass, even as they remain rivals, they do start understanding each other on a level no one else can (see atsumu explaining kageyama's thought process of "the points I score are mine, the points my hitters score are also mine" to hinata)

but while I do think these parallels are fairly well understood, people are sleeping on the osamu/hinata parallels. probably because they seem so much more different at first glance, with osamu looking calm and disinterested while hinata is, well, hinata. all bouncy and loud and sunshine-y. but they're as much the same as kageyama and atsumu. both were excited kids who like volleyball and, even seeing and understanding how cool setters are, just didn't vibe with it because spiking is just cooler.

except hinata was alone in his desire for so long it went nowhere for years, while osamu could always play as he wanted, with the best and most dedicated setter right there at his side. the way osamu plays is what hinata could've/would've been if he could've played for years and years. (I love this cover page it says like yeah look they're the same just with vastly differing levels of experience)

we know this, because hinata's playstyle actually turns out a lot like osamu's after the timeskip. but even with those differences, regardless of pre- or post-timeskip, again osamu seems to just instinctually get hinata in ways nobody else seems to. from his "he plays like he's eating good grub" to being absolutely unimpressed by hinata simply expecting the ball to be there - because isn't that just the natural state of things? doesn't everyone have a setter who will bring the ball without fail? why wouldn't you expect it? it's not unreasonable or too demanding, it's just how it is - that everyone else clocks as special.

when hinata gets intense, people tend to get scared, but osamu plain isn't, because he's the same in too many ways, and the familiar isn't scary.

and years later, when even atsumu is surprised by the timing of hinata jumping for the freak quick, osamu isn't. this is exactly where he'd jump for it. just like hinata knew osamu would jump for it at the last point of their game in high school (and like kageyama knew atsumu would answer the spiker, both times, because he would, too).

but their arcs end in complete opposites, unlike their setters, because their starting points were more different, too. to go with the food metaphor introduced by osamu, he's someone who always got to eat his fill, while hinata was starving for years and only gets hungrier the more crumbs he gets to eat.

when hinata does get his fill, finally, he can never give it up. but what's a feast to him is just a normal meal for osamu, and he needs other spices to be happy. and I can't really make this fit in the food metaphor but. hinata shines the brightest on the court, but osamu gets eclipsed by atsumu because he's just not hungry enough for it. so it's only fitting hinata pours his all into it while osamu quits and finds his place somewhere else. hinata finds fulfillment in challenge, in teammates and rivalry (with kageyama), while osamu finds his in support (of atsumu) as opposed to competition, and pursuit of something that's entirely his own.

and then there's the relationship between atsumu and hinata. the first match they have is defined by atsumu first writing hinata off as a scrub (to be fair, the first impression he leaves is jumping for a toss and plain forgetting to hit it. it's hard to come back from that), but throughout the game, atsumu comes to understand hinata, and by the end of it, declares he'll toss to him one day.

even at this point, it's pointed out he's good news for hinata in the sense that he won't need kageyama forever. there's someone else who could be his setter and make him shine just as brightly.

what the coaches can't know is that atsumu will be in sore need of a partner just a few years down the line, and that by that time, hinata will be perfect for the position. yes, atsumu can give him the freak quicks. yes, he's the kind of setter hinata can expect the ball from. but post-timeskip, hinata can toss the ball to atsumu just like osamu used to. he can do all the fun, reckless, perfectly coordinated plays that atsumu used to do with his twin.

they're the perfect partners for each other, united even in their desire to beat kageyama, who's both of their main rival at this point, the one who hinata wanted to beat since his first game, and the one who's in the way of atsumu getting the serve trophy and the sole spot of setter on the olympic team.

I know this is a very anti-climactic last dynamic but. unfortunately, kageyama and osamu never really interacted. but for the record, I think it's a shame, we were robbed, and they'd absolutely get along great.

idk if there's a conclusion to be had here tbh, but the post-timeskip arrangement really is ideal for them all, exactly what they wanted. hinata gets to shine and continually improve himself, he gets to stand on the court as a force to be reckoned with. kageyama has finally, finally found the "someone better" he was promised, and through him, continually gets to play the challenging game he was sorely missing in his early years. atsumu gets to play exactly the kind of volleyball he likes, too, with the kind of partner at his side that made volleyball so fun for him from the start. all three of them get to play again and again and again, always learning and growing, winning and losing, and never getting tired of any of it. osamu, while he's not playing, gets to do his own thing that he loves just as much, and he's certainly not losing his dumbass happiness contest with his brother.

so. yeah. I may have thought about all this a little too much. leave me alone. (no don't please talk to me about this actually)

Manager Miniseries

* I'll be using (Nn) as nickname (only cause oikawa is oikawa and always need to give nicknames to everyone 🤨)

It was that time of the year, when the cold invades the streets and people celebrate with family or friends the arrival of a new year. Right now, the Seijoh team is doing the same thing, celebrating Christmas as a 'family'. Although more like an unstructured and chaotic family.

"The cookies! Cookies are burning!"

Yahaba ran arround Oikawa's house, who had offered to lend it to spend a couple of days while his parents visited the family. The poor boy did not know where to put the cookies that were literally on fire.

Kentaro frowned, wearing chicken mitts he grabbed the tray and flushed the food down the toilet, managing to extinguish the fire. They had to call Watari for him to cook something, since everyone except Iwa was a pain in the ass at cooking.

"Come on (Nn), accept that my jersey is the best."

Oikawa made some model poses. The third-year boys had held a small contest to find out who had the best Christmas sweatshirt, it should be noted that Iwaizumi was forced.

The captain, had a tree shirt, full of constantly blinking lights, looked like a living brothel. Mattsun and Iwa brought more normal ones, with a Christmas theme without lights or anything extravagant. Meanwhile, Makki, put on one with a reindeer that stood out in front of and behind him, giving the effect that the reindeer had passed through his body.

You left the votes to the first-year boys, although it was Kindaichi who proclaimed his captain the winner to stop bothering, since Kunimi fell asleep as soon as he wrapped himself in the blankets in the living room without bothering to remove the headband with horns and bells.

"The cookies are done!"

Most appreciated that the libero fixed the problem without burning down the house. Now everyone curled up in the big sofa, although some stayed on beanbags, like Kentaro, who didn't want to be next to anyone, 'anyone' being Oikawa.

You got to be next to Kindaichi and Mattsun, right in the center of the sofa.

"I choose first!"

Oikawa quickly grabbed the remote control, scrolling through a website of dubious origin and legality, but that didn't matter, all you wanted was to watch Christmas movies. You ended up watching a full marathon of Scrooge McDuck, along with other typical ones like Home Alone or the like.

When the credits rolled most of them were sound asleep, except for you, who couldn't sleep because Mattsun lay on your shoulder, you couldn't feel it for an hour. Kunimi had just woken up from sleeping earlier and Kentaro wasn't sleepy because he was like a rock.

You three looked at each other, in turn watching how everyone was sleeping peacefully. As good companions and friends you would let their elders rest a rare. But it just so happened that the three demons got together, the most tired of the team's stupidity.

You exchanged glances for the last time to nod, only woke up Watari and Iwaizumi, because you didn't want them to be affected, you also didn't want to make your 'mother' angry, and they just kept quiet, not admitting that they would enjoy watching the show.

"One, two…"

You whispered covering your ears like all your accomplices. Jingle Bell Rock was heard throughout the neighborhood and the rest of the team was foamed. The strange thing is that Mattsun didn't even flinch, he was still asleep like a log.

"You have started the war, I only warn."

Hanamaki acted offended hiding a playful smile.

"You all are so mean!"

As usual Oikawa had to make a scene so you just ignored him, Makki didn't complain and Yahaba just got a little angry for the scare. Kindaichi couldn't complain because he was a baby, you were kinder to him and didn't foam his face.

When everyone cleaned up properly, you all sat down to eat, since you couldn't be normal most of the time you spent throwing food from one side to another trying to make it fall into someone's glass. Luckily no one had to swallow any shrimp hair or poached grapes.

Everyone was more relaxed after the meal, chatting quietly by the fireplace until you squealed as were jerked off the ground.

"This will be my revenge, I will kidnap (N)! if you want her back you will have to defeat me in Twister."

"Well said Makki! We'll stick with (Nn)."

Oikawa came to his side, crossing his arms, nodding effusively, Yahaba and Kindaichi also joined.

"Have you hit your head or something? there was no way (N) would decide to go with you."

Iwaizumi frowned, holding back to kick his teammates, next to him were Kunimi, Kentaro and Watari.

"That's why we're kidnapping her!"

"You know that I can kick you and let go right?"

You were simply caught off guard, but you didn't have a hard time breaking Hanamaki's grip. He looked at you with puppy dog eyes, you rolled your eyes letting them continue with their stupid battle, just the same you had to watch how they fought among themselves.

You never felt so good to feel that thanks to your presence their were causing total chaos.

The 'poggers' team against the 'mommy & dog' team, you didn't pay much attention to them as you decided to snuggle up next to Mattsun, who had surprisingly gone back to sleep.

By the time both teams had finished their competition they felt betrayed as they watched Matsukawa hug you sideways. In addition, the cheeky opened one of his eyes, smiling and winking at them, pressing you closer against his chest.

"The betrayal bro!"

A burning smell filled the room, everyone looked at each other strangely when they saw the oven on fire, again.

"The cookies!"

"More...?"

"Who has let Yahaba come to the kitchen again?!"

Kentaro kicked in the kitchen door with a fire extinguisher in hand as Iwaizumi scolded them.

Yeah you couldn't have a normal party, at least this time you weren't at the epicenter of the chaos and were enjoying Mattsun's warm embrace.

thinking about what an insane opportunity this is for the first years at this camp. the full extent of it only hit me this time around but like, yeah ushijima is a super cool player that they all know and revere as almost a celebrity (and deservedly so ofc, he's nationally ranked and is on THE youth national team), but more than that, by this point in time he's done playing high school volleyball. if their schools didn't play him during prefecture qualifiers, they never had a chance to play against him and never would (other than goshiki and the shiratorizawa ball boys), and now because they were invited to this camp they get to play against him, watch his nuances in real time, feel the sting of his serves on his arms, and ask him questions, learn from him, learn what it truly takes to be on his level

and now i'm thinking about how every single character (except kunimi) from a previously named school who is at this camp eventually goes on to play professional volleyball 😭😭😭 like wow how much of that had to be from ushijima's impact and the opportunity that washijo let them have here. it really is about connecting on and off the court. insane INSANE
