The advantages of working as chief of police in Vacuo they were very big.

Stopping being a hunter was very good for him.

His descended from Arc gave him some advantages as many of his ancestors came from Vacuo.

But his descent from the Diabolos Diogron Sabertooth gave him a very high morale with the Faunus.

No Faunus had the courage to look at him.

The fact that he is descended from the terrible Diabolos Diogron Sabertooth left any Faunus in terrible fear, they couldn't look them in the eye because they were so afraid.

Jaune passed a diner and the Faunus present were frightened.

Coco: This is ridiculous, he helped us kill millions of Grimm and on top of that he saved the city

Fox: Well, this Diabolos Diogron Sabertooth thing makes any Faunus scared Coco. There must be a reason for such a thing

The video feed images from the forest caused those watching to go pale. It was utter chaos in the shadow of those trees. The Professors watched as those strange grimm attacked, but that was not all. Several of the hopefuls themselves just screamed and then changed as well.

Ozpin: Get the rescue bullheads in the air now! I want everyone out of that forest!

Beowulf: We will swallow your soul!

Jaune ignored the rantings of the decapitated head as he rushed to Pyrrha's side. She groaned as he helped her sit up with her back to the tree she had been thrown against.

Pyrrha: What? What?

Jaune: Pyr? How are you feeling?

Pyrrha: Confused, everything is ... AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Jaune fell back as Pyrrha lurched forward, grabbing her left leg. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she began to claw at her own flesh, screaming in agony. Jaune, using his one good hand, grabbed her wrists and pulled them back.

Jaune: Tell me Pyr! What is happening?

Pyrrha: It burns! It burns! Something is eating me!

Using the tip of his saw, Jaune pried at the edge of her greave. He took a deep breath as he saw the damage the bite had caused. Damage her aura should have prevented. Damage that before his eyes was festering and putrefying her flesh.

Jaune: Okay, I heed you to hold your hands together tightly. I have to remove your greave to really look at the injury. Can you do that?

Pyrrha just nodded as she clasped her hands together. Taking a deep breath, Jaune reached down and undid the fasteners. The torn piece of armour was peeled away revealing a spreading spiderweb of black lines, twisting about her flesh as the punctures caused by the beast's teeth wept black fluid.

Jaune: Fuck!

Pyrrha: (Sobbing) Jaune, please help me.

Jaune: (Places his hand against Pyrrha's cheek) I'm going to save you, but you have to be strong for me. Can you?

Pyrrha: Y... y... y... yes.

Jaune: I have to grab my hand, but I will be right back. Okay?

Pyrrha just nodded. Jaune rose to his feet and quickly made his way to where he had dropped his hand. As he passed the severed head, he unsheathed his shotgun.

Beowulf: Her soul will be ours! You have failed another, Jauney!

Jaune said nothing as he pointed the weapon and squeezed one of the two triggers. The head was splattered across the ground. Spinning the gun about his finger, he sheathed it, and grabbed his discarded hand. He jogged back to the still crying Pyrrha.

Jaune: (Pushes his cybernetic hand into her hands.) I want you to squeeze that as hard as you can. Crush it if you have to.

Pyrrha: What... what... are you... going to do?

Jaune: To save you, I have to take off your leg. It is going to hurt, like a fuck ton, but it's...

Pyrrha: No, you can't!

Jaune: Do you want me to save your life? Or would you rather become like that thing and force me to destroy you?

Pyrrha: I... I...

Jaune: Listen to me. If I don't do this now, you're going to die, so squeeze that hand. I'll make this quick.

Pyrrha, still sobbing, tears running from her eyes and snot dripping from her nose, just nodded. Jaune grabbed the end of one of his belts and yanked it free of his body. He kept his eyes on the creeping infection as he used his one good hand, and his teeth, to loop the belt just above Pyrrha's knee. She whimpered as he pulled it so tight that it made her aura flare.

Jaune: Now squeeze that hand.

Pyrrha screwed her eyes shut and clasped the cybernetic hand between hers. The revving of the chainsaw made her flinch, and a second later she howled. Jaune ground his teeth together as he forced the blade of the saw through her aura, and into her pale flesh. The corruption was only a couple of inches below her knee. He had to work fast.

I think we've all seen the numerous, VERY extensive Oscar tt (time travel) fics, and I've talked at length on this before, but I just, have a vision.

I'm honestly tired of fics where Oscar drops back in, freaks out, instantly tells them everything, and then just... enrolls at Beacon or Atlas academy, I guess. NO HATE TO THE AUTHORS! But I guess I'm more of a drama queen. And I've always been more into machievallian type characters.

So see me: an Oscar that doesn't immediately seek out Ozpin, because frankly, he's tired of the sod. He's come to care about his wizard dad on some level, but that wizard dad is still cohabitating in his skull very nonconsensually, and a break is well desired. And he just got some experience with busting Salem's forces from the inside.

And so instead of going to Beacon, he gets himself on Salem's radar. Perhaps he uses magic to catch her interest, claims he's a lost descendant of Oz who resents the wizard for abandoning his family and would be happy to take apart his legacy. Perhaps he gets in with Emerald in the street robbing business and works under Cinder, never actually carrying out what she wants, befriending Emerald early and learning as much as he can. Maybe he even keeps tabs on the white fang this way, and every bit of information is stored in the massive gulf in his brain where Ozpin used to be. He's grown accustomed to knowing so much, so it's almost frighteningly easy to know so much MORE.

And Ozpin starts hearing reports from his agents of a strange new boy on the field, a literal child who can use magic, or who can use a staff, or who can outmaneuver his best, who seems to know Qrow's stategies in and out. In his incredible curiosity, he sets a new focus on this strange child.

By the time Oscar defects he takes half of Salem's forces and all of her battle plans with him, and walks straight up to Qrow, the man who was sent to take him by force if necessary. And he smiles innocently, just like he might have before he was jaded enough to even carry out a plan like this, and politely asks to be taken back to Beacon, finally. Emerald and whoever else follow suit. Maybe Cinder, or Torchwick, or Adam are even gone by this point.

His original self, the 13yro Oscar, sits quietly at home the whole time, and never has to be dragged into this awful mess.

Bruh how are people gonna say “the gods are unfair assholes” and “Salem deserves punishment for defying the gods” in the same breath with a straight face. Truly “how dare you suggest we piss on the poor” reading comprehension.

it’s so funny. didn’t you know that salem is [checks notes] a petty, egomaniacal, spoiled brat who’s convinced that magic is the only measure of human worth and These Humans are pathetic dirt children playing at being human and everything bad that has ever happened is because she won’t admit she had everything she could possibly want and spoiled it herself by not letting go of the past so now she’s trying to destroy the whole world because she’s mad that the gods refused to bring ozma back exactly the way she wanted them to??

often it’s not “salem deserved to be punished” so much as it is taking at face value the position that salem needs to learn a moral lesson (about ‘letting go’ or whatever) and she’s evil because she can’t or won’t do that—i’ve not seen anyone say the quiet part out loud since V9 delivered its god lore but the unspoken subtext is not particularly, erm, quiet.

i think my favorite example of Countertextual Fanon Salem is this one time i saw somebody misattribute “there will be no victory in strength” TO OZPIN and posit that as a lesson salem will be forced to learn. her watchcry!

but yeah it’s gotten especially silly in the aftermath of V9, now that most everybody has clued in to the god of light being the true villain of the piece. some people are Watching A Different Show lmao

#relatedly i love it when folks praise ozpin (rightly) as an excellent morally grey character #and then turn around and give salem the pure evil cardboard cutout treatment. lmfao

I do appreciate that cases in RWBY where a person sends away their backup and allies because those people are weaker as individuals literally never ends well.

Ozpin might have beaten Cinder in the Vault had he not sent Pyrrha and Jaune away. Pyrrha wouldn’t have died on top of the tower had Jaune been there, as he almost certainly would have unlocked his semblance at the sight of her in mortal peril. Cinder wouldn’t have lost to Raven and Vernal in V5 had she waited and brought Emerald and Mercury (or her whole evil squad) with her.

We constantly see characters, especially the mentors or “stronger” ones, keep their supposed allies away from the fight in the interest of protecting them. But in RWBY, that never ends well. Teams exist for a reason, and refusing backup because you see your friends as weaker only ever buys time before they have to face that same enemy alone.

But to make sure no one took it, I put it all the way to the back in the refrigerator and with several notes saying "Do not touch" and "Property of Dr. Arc."

Jaune is placing his pie all the way in the back of the fridge and then starts putting everything else back inside.

Lunch time

Ren: Hey Jaune, today we're all going to eat outside in the garden. The weather is good today.

Jaune: Ok, I'll just finish some paperwork and catch up to you guys.

Ren: Sounds good. *leaves*

The camera shows how Jaune continues working but in the distance, through one of the clinic windows, you can see Ozpin checking the staff refrigerator.

The scene changed with Jaune filing the papers in his file cabinet.

Jaune: Well, I'm done. Now it's time to eat my pie~

The camera follows him to the refrigerator. He starts taking things out, and when he gets to the end he freezes in place.

The camera shows Ozpin at his desk working on some papers.

Ozpin: *Drinking Coffe*

*Ting!*

Suddenly the camera changes direction to the elevator doors and Glynda appears.

Glynda: Ozpin, we have a problem.

The camera shows everyone scared as Jaune holds Yang hostage using a syringe.

Jaune: Ok motherfuckers! Who the hell ate my pie?!! Tell me now, or the girl gets it!

Weiss: *Worry* Jaune, please calm down. We can talk about this in a civilized manner, let Yang go..

The camera changes to Ozpin, with Glynda behind him. Everyone turns to see him.

Jaune: No! Someone ate my pie and they don't tell me who it was. And I won't let her go until they tell me who it was.

Yang: Yes please~💕

Ozpin: Wait, are you perhaps talking about a lemon pie with chocolate chips?

Jaune: Yes, how do you know? It was wrapped in aluminum

Ozpin: Oh, I think I'm to blame in all this.

Jaune: Huh?

Ozpin: I'm very sorry Dr. Arc, but it seems that I ate your pie by mistake.

Jaune: But it had my name!

Ozpin: And I'm sorry, I didn't think it was that important to you.

Jaune: *Shock* You ate it all?

Ozpin: Not completely, it was too sweet for me. I threw the rest in the trash.

Jaune: *Surprise* You threw it in the trash?!

Ozpin: I hope you can forgive me.

Jaune: *Let Yang go* You know what, don't worry about it. Mistakes happen all the time, right.

Ozpin: Oh I'm glad to hear that. Well, with this resolved. Let's all go back to work, okay?

Ozpin turns around if he leaves, with Glynda following behind him. The camera then focuses on Jaune, who doesn't look away from Ozpin without blinking. It's kind of intimidating.

Ozpin's office

Ozpin is looking out of his window at the scenery of the school and city. He holds up his cup of coffee and takes a sip.

*ting!*

Ozpin: hm?

The camera shows the elevator door to his office open with Jaune stepping out of it.

Ozpin: Dr. Arc, I was not expecting your visit. How can I help you??

Jaune: I came to give you my two weeks' notice.

He puts his letter on his desk and leaves. Ozpin takes the letter and begins to open it without looking away from Jaune.

Ozpin: Is it because I ate your pie? Please Dr. Arc, it was just an…

At that moment he reads the letter and it says:

"I will attack in two weeks."

Ozpin: ..Accident

He looks back at Jaune, and as the elevator doors close he can see an evil smile spread across his face. Then Jaune moves his lips without making any noise saying "two weeks." Ozpin starts to break out in a cold sweat.

Ozpin: I think I made a huge mistake.

Qrow: She had a choice.

Jaune: A few days' choice which turned into minutes when Beacon was attacked. Then discovering how bad the situation is, you know with Salem being immortal, I almost hurt if not killed Oscar, making me at the spur of the moment,  just as bad as Hazel. And mind you I was willing to fight you on that.

Ruby: Uh… yeah…

Jaune: Tyrian, has the opposite to my semblance. Wasn’t he more interested in me than you? And you were his target.

Ruby: Mmhmm.

Jaune: Let’s talk about Cinder again. Cinder had two stray kids who followed her. I have Ren and Nora. Neither have parents. Also, we both want power but for different reasons. We even have different views on destiny.

Ruby: Oh damn.

Jaune: Atlas. Oscar did Ironwood not act like how I did in Argus but worse?

Oscar: Yeah he did. Jaune even saw Salem in person before you did.

Yang: So did we. You saw her face to face.

Oscar: I’m Ozpin. What is that supposed to mean?

Ruby: Oscar, not helping.

Jaune: Neo. We both lost our partners. The difference is that I have friends while she has none. The cat, him, and I almost have the same ability except he manipulates your soul or takes it. He might as well have been a devil version of me.

Weiss: O. Dear lord.

Ruby: Um….

Jaune: You know what I have to ask this question. What is the moral of the story and how does your character fit into this?

Ruby: Well my-

Jaune: Let me retort. I lied. I was bullied. I had no idea about anything in the hunting world. I needed a teacher. I lost someone important to me. I have beef with the main villains. I train to get stronger to be of use to others.

Ruby: So?

Jaune: Okay. No one believed in me. But I still went to chase my goal. I lost the best thing in my life. I still moved forward. I had to kill someone. Still moved forward. I’m an old man trapped in a boy's body. Still moving forward. Fighting the odds that are stacked against me. I have seven who no one knows about. Yet your family is more interesting.

Ruby: Your point?

Jaune: The moral of the story is that no matter your circumstance you can always be better. Never allow destiny or grief to influence your entire life. No matter what odds that stand before you,  you can ultimately change your fate. And no matter the darkness a simple soul can light up the night and unite everyone against a greater evil. Even when the whole world is against you, you are never alone to endure it. If we stand united and look past our differences only then the wor;d would be a better place.

Ruby: Well my mom died at Salem’s hands.

Jaune: And?

Ruby: It's still relevant.

Jaune: You're right. But how many times has your mother been mentioned and you bothered to get information about her?

Yang: I-

Jaune: Bitch shut the fuck up. You were looking for the deadbeat mom more than the mom who stepped up.

Ruby: Well um… um…. Damn. Oh, but I-

Jaune: You weren’t the sword. I may not have known Penny as long as you, but the fact, that I could've saved her proved her death hit harder than Pyrrha's. I’m close to walking in Raven’s path.

Ruby: Shit.

Jaune: And back to your mother. She was a silver-eyed warrior. But Salem is still here. Do silver eyes work on her?

Ruby: Um.

Jaune: Because Salem is still both the brothers' creation. The old humanity. She can't be phased by the black liquid even though everything they touch decays. 

Ruby: She's immortal.

Jaune: Yeah but again when Maria told you her story didn't she try using her silver eyes on humans and it didn't work? 

Ruby: Cinder.

Jaune: Grimm arm.

Ruby: The hound. 

Blake: Silver-eyed person too but only stunned them.

Ruby: Blake.

Blake: What a minute he had animalistic ears. Should I be concerned for my people?

Jaune: Yeah… we’re not getting into that. The point is if you go see Salem and your silver eyes don't work then your mom died for nothing.

Ruby: Oo. Um…

Jaune: And let's get back to the other villains. Besides Emerald, Mercury, and Tyrian, some of them have valid reasons to join Salem. 

Ren: Jaune!

Jaune: Ren, your village got destroyed.

Ren: Nevermind.

Me: Hold up. Let me start. With Cinder, a huntsman saw what she was going through and didn't bother to help her. She was alone. The world abandoned her.  

Jaune: So Hazel was right. In fact, Raven had a point.

Oscar(Ozpin): Mr. Arc I-

Jaune: Motherfucker Hazel had every right to be angry. Dude shadow missions involve us going with experienced hunters. Yet his sister died and Ruby could’ve died. Shadowing them. Following their lead. Does that not show how bad the hunting system is? Not just that we got hunters who died in the line of duty. Not to mention how some were sexually harassing the girls.  And some of them are just plain crazy or assholes. Not to mention Blake, Qrow, and Raven. You let them in. And to make matters worse you chose Pyrrha, a first-year student, to be your maiden.

Oscar(Ozpin): She was my best option. 

Jaune: So Glynda wasn't on the table? A high-ranked fourth-year student wasn't on the table? Man, at least you could have chosen Ruby considering she has silver eyes and is a young upcoming prodigy. That would have made her more important. Like Ozpin Ruby off the bat was better than Pyrrha.

Qrow: Hey, I would have stopped that.

Jaune: O, so… it was okay with Pyrrha… but not your niece. I see. Hypocrite.

Qrow: Damn. Set myself up for that.

Jaune: Watts, despite his stupidity, had a point. James would abuse any source of technology just to have some level of control over something. Why did you think he wanted your sister instead of Penny? Why do you think he wanted Amity up as quickly as possible? Why do you think he hacked into Penny? Everything was always about control.

Weiss: Well our lives weren't easy.

Jaune: That I won't deny. Yet we are all still bad people.

Yang: Jaune my mother -

Jaune: Raven and Summer left you. Summer no one cared enough to talk about. Raven doesn't matter at all. Willow waited until her children were teenagers or young adults to start dealing with an abusive father. And Kali… yeah she should have slapped some sense into her daughter. 

Weiss: Well your mom doesn't love you.

Jaune: Don't care. Back to Jacque though how does he and James know each other? Why do they have beef with one another? Unless… o. Oh no. Don't tell me. Did James set Jacque up with Willow? And in return, he helps James rise to power. Or did James love Willow but because of his career he couldn't marry her? Could Winter be-

Weiss: Please stop. I do not need those theories in my head.

Jaune: Fine. The point I'm trying to make is… … well how about you explain.

Me: It's crazy how Jaune fits the main character role better than Ruby.

Jaune ignored the spattered laughter, as he thought back to the night three years ago.

Jaune: (Muttering to himself) Wouldn't you be surprised.

Noticing everyone else was standing on strange slightly elevated platforms, Jaune copied them and stepped on to a vacant one.

Ozpin: Welcome to Initiation. Today we will be testing your worthiness to be a student of our hallowed academy, as well as forming the teams you will be a part of for the next four years.

Ozpin waited for the murmuring to die down.

Ozpin: I know there were rumours circulating about how teams and partners will be formed. Today, you will find your partner, and that person will be the FIRST person you make eye contact with, upon landing in the Emerald forest.

Again, Ozpin waited for the murmurs to die. Jaune's eyes narrowed, and he looked from the headmaster into the immense forest stretching out below the cliff.

Ozpin: Once you have your partner, you will make your way north to a set of ruins where you will find artifacts. Choose one artifact and then return here, and you will have passed, and we will welcome you as a student of our institution. Any...

Jaune: (Glaring at Ozpin) Are you FUCKING DAFT?

Ozpin: Mr Arc?

Jaune: Have you NOT listened to a fucking thing I told you? It is out there! I can see the signs, and you're just going to toss a bunch of teenagers into its clutches?

Glynda: Mr Arc, please calm...

Jaune: No, I will not...

Ozpin: It is perfectly safe, Mr Arc. While there maybe a few grimm still in the forest, there is...

Jaune: Are you deaf too, Mother-fucker? I'm telling you right now, it is out there! I can see the signs. It is out there and just waiting for you to feed it all this fresh meat!

Glynda: Enough, Mr. Arc! This is nether the time nor place for such theatrics!

Jaune: Theatrics? Theatrics? You think this is some type of...

Jaune screamed as he was suddenly and violently thrown into the air. Going from standing still to tumbling through the air, almost made him lose grip on his chainsaw, and while he was glad he hadn't left his treasured weapon behind, another thought was quickly taking precedence. How was he supposed to survive the landing?

Pyrrha sailed through the air, a smile dancing on her lips, and laughter floating about her in the air. As soon as Jaune had been launched, she didn't even hesitate in using her semblance to activate her own platform. She didn't even pay attention if the other would-be-students were also being launched. She had an objective to achieve, and he was currently tumbling through the air before her.

Pyrrha wanted to shout, but she knew it wouldn't have been heard over his screaming and the rushing wind. Pulling Akuno free from her back, she braced behind it and smashed through several treetops, burning away her forward momentum. As soon as she had landed on a fairly sturdy branch, she pulled Milo.

Shifting Milo into a javelin, she sighted and threw, activating the trigger at the same time, giving the weapon even more of a boost. A scream and a thud, followed by some, cursing, told her she had been on target.

Pyrrha: ARE YOU OKAY?

Jaune: YEAH! THANKS I GUESS?

Pyrrha: STAY WHERE YOU ARE! I'LL BE RIGHT THERE!

Jaune: NOT MUCH OF A CHOICE NOT TO DO THAT!

Pyrrha: WHY?

Jaune: YOU'LL SEE!

Pyrrha was all smiles as she hopped her way down to the forest floor, branch by branch.
