I feel like Disney, MCU Thanos and Star Wars kinda soured the nuanced villain for the mainstream folks... I mean if I saw Kylo Ren I'd go back to wanting pure evil jackasses too.
As a certified hater of Kylo Ren I would love to blame him and Disney/MCU for people’s inability to see merit in properly developing a character. Unfortunately, for me that line of thinking is very low hanging fruit.
I've said it a couple of times already, but pure evil villains don't just exist in a vacuum, at least in a story that is decently written. Perhaps the villain themselves may be "evil just because they are evil" but their existence generally serve as a commentary on what is happening in the story they find themselves in. People love to cite Sauron as an example of an absolute evil antagonist, Tolkien himself saying as much. However, and not to start going into detail, Sauron himself has a lot of supporting backstory that gives you insight into why he is that way as well. My point is, a story that cares for telling a compelling story won't just stick in a character and say "he is evil" because then you, as the audience, won't care at all for it. I still cannot comprehend how people don't understand that if your antagonist, typically a part of the end goal for the protagonist, isn't interesting then you will really not care for reaching the end goal. Going back to TotK, even when I see people staunchly defending it and its storytelling, no one ever really talks about wanting to go fight Ganondorf, or feeling compelled to see him defeated. It's always about Zelda's sacrifice in becoming a dragon, or the many uses of Ultrahand, or the adventuring aspects amongst others. Everyone says that yes, when you do eventually go down to meet Ganondorf that the entire sequence is cool but there is no sense of urgency to actually go visit him. Maybe that was the intent of the dev team, to not have the player feel like they have to reach the end goal so that they can explore at their leisure, but that also makes for a boring villain that doesn't seem that threatening to begin with. Additionally, Ganondorf himself seems completely divorced from having any sort of interesting ties to Link and Zelda. His hatred lies with Rauru, and the only reason he seems interested in any way with Link is because Rauru said Link would defeat him. Zelda herself barely interacts with Ganondorf, which makes it even stranger that he chose to make a puppet out of someone that he seems to barely know nor care about. You would imagine that Ganondorf, hating Rauru and his kingdom as much as he does, would create a puppet out of Sonia with the goal of hurting Rauru with the image of his wife. Even the main quest of TotK is to "Find Zelda" aka Link's main concern is finding Zelda and bringing her home. Ganondorf is not Link's antagonist at all, but rather Rauru's, and then we learn little to nothing about Rauru. We actually learn little to nothing about Ganondorf as well, the game really banking on the fact that you as the player know that Ganondorf is the bad guy and the king of Hyrule is the good guy and running with it. Anyways, all's that to say, I love villains that are bastards. If Ganondorf was a tragic meow meow that spent his time lamenting his fortune I don't think I would like him as much. I want the game to make me feel like I need to beat him. Sticking him in a game and being like "yeah here he is, the bad guy, beat him" is boring and uninspired. I actually visited Ganondorf about 90 hours into playing TotK because, truly, the only thing compelling me to visit him was that he was my favorite character. There was no other sense of urgency for me. Compare that to OoT or WW where I wanted to get to him and see him defeated. Anyways I think I've rambled enough.

staring any game and experiencing the story for the first time is always fun but with ffxiv it hits different like. i have never in my life seen any talk about the story of this game online beyond “it’s one of the best mmo story out there” and “a realm reborn is really slow and boring”. never have i perceived any of the (assumably) 13 games that come before it, nor any of the ones that come after it in the series.
i just hit level 15 in the main quest and have no idea who and what’s important, and i got jumpscared by a cutscene about some sci fi army and their emo spaceships or whatever after having spent hours getting used to this beautiful fantasy forest. i also saw someone use a tesla looking ass mount running over various squirrels, and i’m really struggling to comprehend the setting of this entire game.
five years ago, some big event happened, and also fifteen years ago, and apparently 50 years ago something happened as well. but the one five years ago is the most important. i think. it was really bad and a lot of people died and the land is still healing and a lot of people died, and everyone needs to tell me this because apparently i didn’t know, even though a lot of people died and the land is still healing. perhaps just a few many people died, and just a small part of the land requires healing, i don’t know yet.
i am going to become a warrior of light, because everyone keeps saying “you’re just like a warrior of light. lol just kidding.”
there are a lot of expansions. what will they even be about. what’s anything about, actually. the only reoccurring character i’ve seen online is some red haired cat boy(?) and that’s all.
like i’m really really intrigued and want to go into the story as much as possible but also what the fuck is happening at any point in time.

i am here once again to bother you <3
do you have any hot takes on genshin? maybe character design or skill kit? if so then please indulge me <333
Please, you never bother me! <3
Hot takes huh? *scratches chin* Disclaimer right out of the bat... everyone is free to disagree and please don't feel attacked... my opinion is not the end all be all, I know it's not the law and your blorbos are all valid and I'm sorry in advance. Ok, thanks 💕😂
Nilou is a Mary Sue character. Her story quest is the only one I skipped through because I actually couldn't stand how she was portrayed as this "perfect" girl everyone gushed about.
Albedo, while being one of the coolest characters lore-wise and having an ungodly amount of drip (his outfit? chefs kiss) has one of the most boring kits in the entire game... Place the flower thing on the ground once and then go back to your main DPS without ever seeing Albedo again on that Abyss floor... and he doesn't have a signature. Hoyo did him so dirty.
Diluc's in-game model is actually atrocious. Please, the man is so handsome. In the manga and in official art I want to munch on him affectionately... and then the in-game model just looks like an egg. Another case of hoyo did him dirty. He deserves better.
Alhaitham is not Dendro Keqing... just no.
I really dislike Noelle's outfit... like I'm already not a big fan of maid outfits and then maid armor? nope, yikes.
While I ship some characters the shipping community, especially surrounding Genshin is stupidly toxic and loves drama. Maybe Reader insert is cringe to a lot of people but at least we don't scratch each other's eyes out in these parts of town <3
A lot of characters constantly get mischaracterized and it bothers me. Childe is not a playboy, and neither is Kaeya, Ayaka is a super sweet girl and not some obsessed yandere chick and Ayato would not be a manipulative towards those he loves (teasing? yes; mean? never ever!)

I've had an absolute blast playing Tears of the Kingdom, really I have. I've spent the past couple of days in game just farming for materials and I haven't gotten bored. However I do have a big complaint with the game:
With the storyline it had, it should have been linear. Before people jump at my throat about how that would take away the charm and gameplay of TOTK, I know, but that doesn't mean I'm not aware how much the story suffered from it.
Spoilers going ahead!
Like in BOTW, Link is tasked with going to the four corners of Hyrule and meeting with the people both to help them with their issues and to find Zelda. This part of the game isn't the issue I have a problem as such with but it does lead to one that I do:
The Dragon Tears.
We're guided to go to Rito first (though that is very much a personal choice that not everyone followed) and the path to Rito you encounter a geoglyphs and Impa who is investigating them.
The Dragon Tears quest is basically a similar mechanic to the photos from the first game: they give Link a memory of Zelda, though in this case it's not Link's memories but Zelda's memories, specifically of her being in the past
Moving on from that now, as we explore each domain/city, we get in game hints with Zelda too: specifically with her being extremely suspicious and potentially causing harm to Hyrule. After completing each domain/city, they also learn that (and you if you had not done any of the geoglyths), Zelda appeared in the past.
This leads the characters in the game to wonder if the Zelda they have been seeing is the same Zelda as the person they see from the memories of the past.
So what is my issue with the The Dragon Tears? Well they reveal two pieces of important information that should affect how Link handles the domains/cities he hasn't gone too yet: One is that Ganondorf has created a puppet of Zelda before to do his bidding. Two is that Zelda makes a huge sacrifice that basically erases her as a person.
How is this an issue?
Well, Link never tells people he saw that Zelda made this sacrifice beyond Impa who was investigating the Geoglyphs and two he allows himself to fall into a trap in Hyrule castle with Zelda and the game acts like he fell for Ganon's puppet when he should know that it was a fake (as he knows that the Zelda he knew no longer exists).
I also have an issue with Link's reaction to Zelda's sacrifice (or really a lack of a strong one considering Zelda is supposed to be such an important person to him) but that's another issue.
It makes the game lose the shock factor it was trying to go for with the reveal. In fact, at that point of the game we should be asking ourselves "what happened to our Zelda" and then that's when I believe that the Dragon Tears should fall to Hyrule and create the Geoglyphs, instead of being available from the start.
Instead it just rolls over to "where is the 5th sage and maybe they can reveal what Link already knows at this point but isn't sharing for some reason!". Which you can actually get before you even get the other sages too so that makes the game lose some more of its draw and tension because again you might already know as Minaru hints at it (my brother did so).
BOTW worked so well because the game didn't require you to do a specific order to experience the game to it's best potential. Even with the memories, if you got them out of order, the purpose was to share Zelda and Link's past and character before the fall of Hyrule.
In TOTK, the memories are used to reveal what happened to Zelda in the past. It turns it into a mystery that you want to unveil however with the choose your own route you get in BOTW, it ruins some of the experience with the main quest because the mystery in those quests are already ruined if you do the Geoglyphs first.
It also makes you wonder why Link isn't telling anyone. These people are supposed to be his friends, people who he trusts his life with, who are helping him find Zelda. But he stays silent that he knows what happened even though they could put their heads together to see if they can reverse what happened to her? It just doesn't make sense and it definitely made me feel that Link didn't even really care. This plotline could have definitely been handled better in game to get the max engagement and enjoyment from the user. It's still a great game but I definitely have some major grieviences about it.

ideas are cheap and execution is everything (actually im gonna talk about deltora quest just give me a second)
on one of the podcasts i listen to (leighton night with brian wecht)((oh god when did i become a podcast person)), one that often has creatives and creators as guests and thus often discuss the Creative Process, has brought up the notion of Ideas Are Cheap, Execution Is Everything. which, honestly, VERY refreshing to talk about in the age of "oh no you guessed the twist better change the ending" and "AVOID SPOILERS AT ALL COSTS". like, you know those guys who are like "I HAVE A GREAT COMIC IDEA AND I NEED AN ILLUSTRATOR TO DRAW ALL OF IT FOR ME, I CAN'T PAY YOU BUT IT'LL BE GREAT EXPOSURE"? like - a great illustrator/clever comics person/good writer can make any idea work, they don't need your brain crumbs and your exposure. likewise, all the stories out there that cause people to go "they have such a good concept BUT THEY'RE NOT UTILIZING THE POTENTIAL!!!!! AAAAAAAAARGH" just proves that it doesn't matter how good the idea is if it doesn't get pulled off right. (or maybe not just right for You, there's so many ways one idea could go! but that's a different topic.) ANYWAY so the other day i listened to all four hours of this review of lightlark (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH LARKLIGHT BY PHILIP REEVE. i keep mixing up the titles constantly) which is why i was having a discussion about Ideas And Execution to begin with. i liked the review because it actually took the book seriously on its own merits rather than just going THE IDEA IS STUPID WHO WOULD WANT TO READ THAT - like, that's not fair. you don't have to like Every Idea, but pretty much every story you love can be broken down into a stupid-sounding idea if that's your attitude! a decent story just needs some commitment and care, is all. SO I WAS ACTUALLY GOING TO TALK ABOUT DELTORA QUEST i haven't read deltora quest in a hot second, but i read the first eigth book series many times as a kid (in czech, so apologies if i don't know the translations for things). it came up a lot in the discussion of lightlark's plot beats with my friend, because apparently a large part of the book is a very boring macguffin collection quest. it's very easy to write a boring macguffin quest. but you know what has a GREAT macguffin quest collection plotline? DELTORA QUEST. like, okay, the premise for deltora is actually fairly basic. the main antagonist is literally a shadow lord who's super mega evil just because he hates everything that's good in the world, so he's been working to create a world that's horrible and unpleasant and everything is twists and turns and lies. BUT IT WORKS SO FUCKING WELL!!!! because emily rodda is not a coward about it!!!!! like the whole series was written to be like a video game, which is why it has such a standard video-game like plot of "to defeat the shadow lord you have to overcome these puzzles and challenges and collect these macguffins and find the chosen one to wield it". it's not high literature but everyone i know who's read deltora go FUCK YEAH DELTORA when i bring it up, so. it made an impact okay!!! and part of that is because the shadow lord is Literally Actually Terrifying. not only do you have all the horrifying monsters and minibosses and the terror of the land of deltora itself. not only do you have all the horrifying contingency plans to destroy deltora even in the case of his defeat. but the way he's played the long game to divide the country and poison the monarchy itself and turn its people against themselves with broken alliances? THERE'S LAYERS. i get CHILLS every time i think about the beginning of the first book, the slow realization of Something's Horribly Wrong, uncovering the erosion of traditions meant to keep deltora safe? under all the riddles you've got a story about how any monarchy that loses touch with its people is doomed to fail.
OH YEAH also the whole series is videogame-like in that you can Follow Along At Home - you're invited to try to solve all the puzzles and riddles and twists along with our heroes! you're given all the clues you could need - along with a hefty dose of red herrings (IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW). actually you know what? i think all those "if someone guesses the ending we have to rewrite it" shows should invest in some quality red herrings rather than rewriting shit. it worked for gravity falls! increases rewatch value, too.
im not saying deltora quest seems to have all the worldbuilding and plot beats and twists lightlark tried to have......... but i'm also not NOT saying that. i mean, it's a bit of a different genre, and i haven't read lightlark (i did read larklight though), and the presentation of what they offer is also different. i know there's been a lot of back and forth discussion whether or not "tropes first" promotion of books is good, and i don't think we'll ever reach a consensus on that, and i don't think there's anything worth moralizing about that. being told something is an MLM Enemies To Lovers story is going to work for some - hell, it's worked on me when i've had the very specific cravings for it - but it won't be my preferred way of recommendations most of the time. but like!! all stories contain tropes!!!! all of them!!!! and all of the tropes have the potential to be done well or badly! and we read stories with the tropes we love because we love them!! (DON'T TALK TO ME AND MY FIFTEEN EMOTIONAL SUPPORT COVERS OF SIÚIL A RÚN.) like, the controversy around lightlark doesn't really come from the plot or the clumsy writing, and it's honestly unfair to make that the target of your malice. the more you pick something apart for the sake of tearing it apart, the more likely you are to rip holes in stories and writers that did nothing to earn your ire.

Penacony part 1 kind of sucked. Despite an attempt at being a thrilling mystery whodunnit, the most surprised I ever got when exploring this place was when I realised a billboard was stalking me.
The second most surprised I got was finding the corpse in my bathtub, but I think that's a normal response. Also, HYV doing anything with playable characters is a novelty, let alone killing* them.
Besides Aventurine, the time you spend with the characters introduced this patch doesn't feel very well spent. You spend most of the first half of the patch chasing Firefly around - a girl that keeps you at arm's reach and is mostly just there to be sad, tragic waifubait - and almost no-one else, and by the time the second half is attempting to serve you mysterious curveballs with the rest of the cast you don't know any of them well enough to give anything resembling a shit.
When Aventurine accused Acheron of lying about being a Galaxy Ranger, murdering Duke Inferno and maybe being involved in Firefly's death, my genuine response was - "I don't know this woman well enough to have any emotions about this, let alone be shocked by the possibility."
Which, in a character-driven Whodunnit of clashing motivations that might make or break a whole planet, is really bad, actually.
My second was - "I can't believe they killed Duke Inferno off-screen he's barely done anything yet", but with a design like that he was never going to be playable. My guy :( Duke Inferno :(
Aventurine has the most personality, by merit of being a smarmy shit begging to get punched, his murder-threat and, again, corpse-bathtub jumpscare. He has unique dynamics with the Trailblazer, Topaz and Ratio, and we understand some of the stakes for why he feels the need to play this game and manipulate us.
Firefly seems to have gotten in over her head with someone (Sam, though I'm assuming her 'mecha' comment was a red herring), but everyone else is a big blank nothing. In terms of motivation that's fine at this stage, but we have two super calm and strong purple ladies that don't reveal much about themselves or emote much, the strangely handled Sparkle who spends most of her time being a) irritating (writing her archetype well is hard) and b) not Sampo, and the.... "I guess they exist" Sunday and Misha.
The Annihilation Gang probably isn't even coming anymore.
I wasn't too annoyed about Robin's death - beyond surprise as, again, playable waifu but given the game was very clearly attempting to endear Firefly to me and their idea of doing that was having her main contributions to most conversations being 'this guy is weird' and 'guess we'd better think hard about this puzzle!' prior to dumping part of her backstory, I came away from that one more annoyed than anything.
Trailblazer apparently agreed with me, given how quickly they recovered from it lmao
*I don't actually believe Firefly or Robin are dead. At the very least, Firefly didn't. Not only did the stakes of dying in the dream world not get established prior to this, it is a dream world. They'll be fine, they probably ended up in the Primal Dreamscape or whatever it is. Firefly's body still being in a doctor's surgery or whatever probably means she's fine.
It's a shame the main plot was boring, because the idea of it seemed pretty fun. As it is, the world we're in has far more personality than the playable characters. I like Penacony itself, I think it's well designed with decent puzzles and some some nice aesthetic choices. But the story has thoroughly failed to grab me, and I have the horrible feeling the quests we'll be picking up afterwards won't have much to do with any playable characters due to the nature of the story.
Due to the nature of this patch basically just being establishing the setting before the actual plot really kicks off, though, the main meat of the actual investigation will be dropping in ... 6 weeks time. Though the problem is that by this point I'm supposed to get you interested in the mystery, and by nature of not knowing many of the players nor caring about Firefly and Robin, I do not.
god this entire patch seriously was just a long-winded prologue huh
Also, did they audition for Clockie by asking people to do their best Mickey Mouse impressions, or what?

7-14 for the ask game!
this one got a bit long ehe~
7. Who is your least favorite character?
I will accept no hate for this but Zhongli. something about his character pissed me off and I never lose the original hatred I had despite accepting him as a necessary character... maybe it's something along the lines of he gave up a huge amount of responsibility without much of a safety net, and because of that he could have caused the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. supposedly he would have saved them all but we'll never know how that would have held up if push came to shove
8 + 9. Favorite nation and least favorite nation?
I'm answering both questions here since I don't have favorites or least favorites. every nation had it's issues for me, and each nation had its upsides.
Mondstadt feels like home, but I found its main storyline to be a touch boring and I dislike how much of the interesting lore and storylines are in limited time events. however, the characters endeared themselves to me quite strongly, and I can't say there's a playable Mondstadt character I dislike in any way- lore, playstyle, general personality, ect.
Liyue is probably lower on my list, mostly because none of the characters really endeared themselves to me, and my overall dislike of Zhongli, who was a major part of the entire quest. (not to say I didn't find the quest interesting. I loved the lore and storyline of it... although the double boss fight one after another tired me out to no end). Ninguang and Beidou mean a lot to me, as do the younger crew (Xiangling, Xinyan, Yunjin, Xingqiu, Chongyun), but as they didn't have major parts in Liyue quests (or parts at all... poor Xinyan...) they don't make the nation better to me.
Inazuma has a special place in my heart, but like everyone else, I had problems with the storyline. it was weak in places, there were glaring plot holes, and some parts of it just didn't make sense. however, it gave us Teppei, so kudos to them. It was a much more emotional storyline than either Mond or Liyue was, and I appreciated that. The sequence after Signora's death was a beautiful moment. I greatly enjoyed almost every single cutscene. Kokomi deserved more, (read, she should have been more of a badass).
the Sumeru quest isn't finished yet, so I don't have a full opinion on it yet, and will be leaving it off the list.
actually, scratch what I said above. Enkanomiya is my favorite nation for the combat ost alone. not to mention the lore and inherent tragedy are gorgeous. i don't think it counts as a nation, though, so-
10. Favorite element?
tie between Electro and Cryo, both for the people who wield those visions and the lore behind them.
11. Least favorite element?
...I use Geo the least? but I can't say I dislike any element
12. Favorite combos of element?
does this mean reactions? I'm answering it as if it meant reactions.
geo or anemo and anything. gimme shields, gimme lots of element application. vape!! got my barbara to do 120k with it so it stays locked in my heart
13. Favorite enemy?
Raiden boss- I am a sucker for a boss with lots of heath that I can just throw attacks at and have not die quickly.
14. Least favorite enemy?
say it with me now. eleCTRO CICIN MAGES. STOP MOANING.

Notes I took for my partner for 4 Sided Dive 1/4/23 because he has a real job and doesn't have time to watch
This is about 2700 words long and includes anything that could be considered lore for the game, along with the jokes I personally found funny and some commentary on the parts I didn't find funny.
The Cast: Travis, Sam, Liam, Ashley
Sam is host.
Recap and Chat
Cheney has been a werewolf for only a few months. Travis doesn't know if Chetney has passed the curse on.
Liam would be a wererat. Sam says he'd be a were-eagle.
Travis loved fighting the rest of the party. He had a bunch of extra hp and a scary howl. Liam also loves being turned against the party. Travis' goal was to give everyone at least one good smackdown.
Travis' early childhood comfort toy was a plastic werewolf. He's always wanted to be a werewolf.
Orym got his sword blessed by the gods! Very exciting. He now has reach and grasping vines to spiderman around.
Liam Seedling - The Wayward Pilgrim has a different punctuation every time to annoy Danni.
Predathos and Plane Rider Ryn is shit that has clearly been in the background of the world but is just now being revealed.
Travis thinks Matt has a huge overarching plot he's been hinting the whole time. Liam points out that dunamancy is also very physics and time and space based.
Liam thinks the Luxon might be Predathos. The beacons are Predathos poops.
Danni Carr is not given any hidden info. She only has what has been revealed to the public. She confirms that the primordials working with the gods was first revealed by Ryn. All other stories we've heard previously is gods vs primordials.
What is Bell's Hells gonna do about all this?
Fearne has been to the feywild but Chetney and Orym have never been to other worlds before going to the pof. Sam doesn't know what FCG did back in the ancient past but has no memory of leaving Exandria before going to the PoF with the others.
Sam really wants to learn more about FCG at the university but is concerned that the main plot will get in the way.
Travis asks what the city on Ruidis might be. Liam suggests that it was the chunk of exandria had a city in it and they're just living up there maybe. Also maybe Predathos can make people. Danni theory is that the people are those who had faith in Predathos. Liam asks if Predathos gains strength from the faithful like gods? We just don't know.
Otohan was previously devout Raven Queen follower. Does she have a new *God*? Or a new cause?
Galaxy Quest reference! "Is there air??? You don't know!"
Bell's Aeronautics and Space Administration
Dead god domains: death, winter, order, fate. Matron didn't replace the eaten death god, but the new death god.
We had a fun gambling episode! Do y'all gamble or go to Vegas? Liam thinks gambling is boring. It feels like a job that is less fun than his actual job. Travis like playing niche trashy slot machines like Viking Lover. Sam likes playing Craps because people cheer. Travis says Laura loves to gamble. She plays craps and sickbow dragon. Travis is not allowed to be near Laura when she's playing. She gets real serious about it. Ashley has only ever played War. She did not win or lose money. Liam would rather buy a Nintendo switch or watch a show.
Tower of Inquiry!
Travis pulls and FAILS
CONSEQUENCES
He has to do pushups situps or run around giggling like a school girl every time he doesn't win at Quiplash later
"What genre of video game would your character enjoy?"
God love you are so right the ToQ questions are always so shallow and inane.
Fearne would play the Sims and just fuck with the little people.
FCG would like Duck Hunt (kill birds!) or Hit Man (kill humans!).
"What would be your character's favorite Broadway musical?"
Chetney: Beauty and the Beast
FCG: Starlight Express
Orym: Billy Elliot the Musical
Fearne: Ashley doesn't know musicals very well. Into the Woods is a little on the nose. Maybe Hadestown? She doesn't know about it but it sounds cool?
"What would be your character's guilty pleasure reality TV show?"
Ashley loves reality TV shows. Lower Decks! It's like Downton Abbey but it's on a boat and very trashy.
Sam doesn't know about reality shows and asks if there's one about therapy. There is! It's on showtime and called Couples Therapy. It's hard to watch. It's rough. The therapist is great though.
Chetney would watch PBS! Bob Ross. NOT Bob Vila.
Liam also doesn't know about reality TV. Someone suggests Ninja Warrior or MMA.
Sam declares that as the host he can change the rules and questions for the ToI no longer need to be evergreen.
Deep Dive
There was a fake cockroach stuck to the bottom of Travis' mug!
Teleprompters bring back childhood trauma for Ashley about having to read out loud at school and fear of messing up in front of everyone.
Sam: What was the inspiration for Shithead the undead bird and what was that like for you?
During the early design phases of character art, they were asked about animal companions or accessories. Sam said nah, and then had a second thought. He has always shat on other people's animal companions like Trinket and Frumpkin. But what if he had a bird companion? So someone designed it, and then he was like, "but I hate familiars. No. I'm done." So he showed it to Matt. And Matt took it from there.
Liam: Orym's sword has gotten an upgrade! What's your favorite part of that and how does the name relate to Orym and Will?
Liam loves spells and magic, so playing a fighter after playing a wizard has been interesting but kind of restrictive. So he likes having grasping vine. Matt also encouraged naming the sword. A plant's seed can be blown for miles away from its parent plant before touching down and growing roots. And that's how Orym feels right now. Group consensus: Orym is a sweet guy.
Ashley: What does Fearne know about her grandmother's dealings? Does she truly believe that Morry will do them a favor with no strings attached.
Sam feels that Fearne has always known more than she lets on. Fearne thinks grandma can do no wrong. Grandma is amazing and Ashley believes she will help us.
Travis: "No strings attached?"
Ashley: "That I cannot answer."
Travis: "What do you mean? You can't answer or you won't answer?"
Ashley: 😏
Ashley: every game I am actively trying to make you all uncomfortable. Fearne's backstory has elements added by both Matt and Aabria. They worked with me and also with each other so I don't know everything. But that's her Nana.
Liam: Nana is fucking dangerous. True neutral at best. Fearne is her darling little rapunzel.
Travis: Why do you think Ruidis was affecting Chetney Specifically? Do you have any theories?
Chetney is worried but doesn't have any specific theories. It's the first time he ever lost control. Liam suggests the people on Ruidis are "monkeying with their god machine". Sam suggests it could be something people on Exandria are doing to Ruidis that caused this. Travis suggests Predathos wants more werewolves.
Sam: FCG has taken an interest in cooking. What sparked this interest despite them being unable to taste or eat?
It's not despite but because of it. FCG is desperate to sense things they can't, like smell and taste and love. Also to dream. Maybe tasting is possible? Wants to understand the mechanics of cooking and food. The others suggest Sam bring in baked goods like how Travis brings in wood objects.
Liam: Orym made a wolf figurine for Chetney but received a fairly brutal assessment of his woodworking skills. What was it like to receive that feedback from the Master Craftsman and why did Orym make the figurine in the first place?
It went about as well as Orym expected. He was trying to return Chetney's kindness after Orym told C about Will. Orym never forgot that and wanted to repay him in a way that Chetney valued. The dressing down was not unexpected.
Ashley: Fearne was able to talk to Laudna and Orym about the coin flip for their lives. How is she feeling about that coin flip now after having spoken with them? How did that decision affect her?
Ashley couldn't even look at Marisha. She was depressed for a week about it. She felt SO BAD. You just get in the moment. It has affected Fearne in a very big way. In a protective way. She hasn't had a lot of human experience before coming to the material plane. Life and death stakes are new for her. And this choice is what made those stakes feel real. It's complicated and she doesn't understand it yet. She's still dealing with it.
Travis: How is Chetney doing now that 'the beast within' has been tamed a bit more? Does he notice a difference or is it too early to tell?
It's too early to tell! Travis doesn't believe that sneak Matt Mercer for a fucking second. We'll see what happens the next time Ruidis flashes. He knows that unfortunately Chettney unleashed will not be there but if he keeps wolfing out every time it's gonna get interesting. Sam wonders what will happen when they land on the moon. What will happen to Imogen up there? Who is gonna lose it? Ashley points out there was a weird red fire figure standing behind Imogen that has yet to be discussed. Alien looking thing. Doesn't look like anything we've ever seen before. Oblong skull!
Sam decides to mix it up for round 2 of the Deep Dive and people will read questions for each other.
Travis reading a question for Sam: What does FCG think of this Shithead albatross for possibly no real reason as Shithead said during their conversation?
Travis: We already answered that, gimme that cup
Travis reading a new question for Sam: What did FCG think of the Speak with Dead ritual that they witnessed with Lord Esterosh? How do they feel about such clerical practices?
It's odd because FCG is technically a cleric but they don't have a religion. Speaking with a dead body is something FCG has never experienced before. It's super creepy and gets into soul stuff. They have an idea about how souls work, but if you can just talk to someone after they're dead, what are we? What is a soul even? What do I even believe? This is plaguing me as a human being named Sam Reigel and also as a character named FCG. What DO I believe? I don't actually know yet and it's going to be fun to figure it out.
Ashley reading for Liam: With Orem's high history, what does he think of their options in regards to visiting the Fay realm versus shadowfell?
That's super easy to answer because while Orym does have a high history, just the way Sam chooses when to pay attention to the rules or not, I will say that Orym does not know shit about other planes. All his history is of the world of exandria.
For the record Sam does not willy-nilly choose which rules to not follow, he just does not follow the stupid ones. Luck is a stupid rule.
Liam reading a question for Ashley: Fearne seems to be enjoying her new role as Professor Callaway, Teacher of Fire. What was it about teaching ladna that spoke to her so much?
Laudna asking Fearne to teach her something made her feel very special. It's just fun. Fearne is fascinated by all the different little things people are good at, what makes them tick, and why they are able to do those things. That Laudna was fascinated in turn by what Fearne is good at was very flattering. She just had a blast with that. (Not clear if pun was intended)
Sam ASHLEY reading a question for Travis: How did Chetney feel to have his original howl go unanswered by the Gorgynei and need to rely on the howls of his friends to get their attention?
It was just a bad roll of the dice but Travis likes the metaphor behind it. Alone he wasn't enough, but together they can accomplish anything. Sam points out that a failure now leaves room for success in the future.
Because Ashley stole Sam's chance to read a question for Travis, he goes and pulls a question from the broken Tower of Inquiry. Danni lets him read from her tablet.
Tower of Inquiry
"What would your characters Smash Ultimate main be?"
Holy shit this is literally your example of a shitty inane question. Your stupid media premonition ability strikes again!
Sam doesn't know what any of those words mean.
Orym would choose Link. A no brainer.
Chetney would choose Princess Peach.
Sam and Ashley say they have to look up the options, but before they can, Ashley says she'd pick Bowser if that's an option. Sam says in flat, obviously lying voice that he loves to play smash and would choose Lucario? (This is the first name he saw and he doesn't know what a Lucario is). Oh it's like a fox thing. Liam suggests Kirby for FCG. Sam says he wants to play as a robot. There's gotta be a robot. Liam asks if MegaMan is in smash bros. Danni suggest Samus. Sam finds R O B and says that's what FCG would be. The 1980s Nintendo robot toy that looked fun but was not fun to play with.
Sam as the host has asked that they play a special little mini game. His New Year's resolution is to finally learn the names of our beloved crew and staff. So we're going to play a little game show called Sam Riegel Name that Crew Member.
I don't think this will have any relevant character information and I'm tired. So I'm skipping this bit.
It was a bit. He guessed wrong every time, including when it was Marisha Ray. I didn't enjoy the bit.
Okay we made it past the break.
Almost done!
Quiplash!
Ashley is Smashley
Travis is Butt butter
Sam is Travis
Liam is Also Travis
Deep Dive mixed into Quiplash
Sam: FCG has been reaching out to the Changebringer in various ways, looking for little signs from her. How is he feeling about this journey so far?
Real confused. Changebringer hasn't really asserted Herself in his life so far. They are desperate for any sign. Could try another god. He is easily swayed in the gods department.
Ashley: It's possible the group will visit the Fay realm and get to meet Nana Morri. How do you feel about that potential?
Extremely excited about that potential. I hope we go. Can't wait for everyone to meet Peepers. (This question was answered in 30 seconds in between quiplash rounds)
Travis: How did Fjord feel about losing his sense of the Wildmother and having replaced by the Cloaked Serpent? What was it like when she returned to him?
"That sucked! I was super bummed. I got my ass kicked and had to give up the crystal super fast that first game and I was really grumpy about it. I did it for love. I was pissed! And then it was kind of nice having a betrayer god be like, help me take down my runaway demigod. It was fun. But it was nice feeling her come back because I was real confused both in character and in real life." Danny suggests that the wild mother was suppressed rather than gone and Travis agrees that that is probably what happened.
Liam: Caleb was so deeply tied to the Cerberus Assembly. What is it like as a player to have the Assembly's machinations reaching into Campaign 3?
Caleb is just sitting in the back of Liam's head pointing excitedly and going, "Ooh! Ooh!" He can't wait for more Ludinus lore drops. He loves/hates the Cerberus Assembly and can't wait to learn more. What are they up to? Sam also wants to know what's up? Danni asks what if we get to see NPC Caleb and Beau because they're still tracking Ludinus. Sam says, "run into Caleb and Beau? ON THE MOON??"
Ending Announcements
No 4 sided dive next month because we'll be having watch parties for LoVM
The lights went black and everyone screamed! When they came back up the broom had been murdered. You know, Broomy, the happy set broom that we all know and love. Looks like we have a murder mystery to solve when 4 Sided Dive returns in March!

OOH OOH OOH! lotro ask game!!! 2, 4, 9, 20, 35, 42? <3
Thanks for the ask!! <3
2. Do you have a favorite Epic quest?
I love, love, love the session play quests. My favorite tho has to be the ever-iconic Boromir POV session play during vol 3 book 7. I’m sure he does canonically know everyone’s names in the fellowship, but the names he gives them in the game are too hilarious.
4. Do you have a favorite side quest?
I really love the lore-based side quests in Lothlorien that talk about the tale of Amroth and Nimrodel, as well as the ones where you explore or reflect in different areas. The slower pace and encouragement to take in the scenery were a breath of fresh air after spending so much time hacking at things in Moria.
I also love the side quests in Rohan that mention how Eowyn has inspired other girls and women, and the relationships that she has with the various female thanes and reeves. LOTRO has always been pretty good about its depiction of women imo, but it seemed like around Rohan it really started stepping into portraying relationships between women, which I appreciated.
9. Do you have any favorite character(s)?
Corudan, my beloved. **spoilers if you haven’t reached Helm’s Deep** I still can’t believe I just waved goodbye to him and sent him on his way at Helm’s Deep without realizing I wouldn’t see him again. ;-; The devs better pick up his storyline again and let us know what happened to him—and he’d better be alive—or I’ll riot.
And since we’re fresh off the Harvest Festival, I love Ivy Redsmith. She’s such a good friend ;-;
20. Do you spend a lot of time on cosmetics- outfits, weapons, housing, pets? Do you have any favorites?
I’ve spent WAY too much time on cosmetic outfits. I spent most of my time collecting cosmetics/cool armor and creating outfits when I first started playing, and it’s the reason why I’m perpetually running out of inventory, vault, and housing space because I have too many beloved pieces I’m not willing to part with. (On the upside tho, my new alts never have to run around in their janky beginner armor for very long because I always have something from the stash that I can share with them lol.) Most of my screenshots of the outfits I made were on my old computer so I don’t have access to them (rip), but I modeled a lot of the ones I made after the outfits I saw on blogs like Cosmetic LOTRO, Starry Mantle, Material Middle-earth, and Wandering Around Arda.
As for favorite pieces, some of my favorites include the Tunic and Trousers of the Autumn Traveller (Harvest Festival), the bee wings (Harvest Festival), the Swan Cloak and Cloak of the Dove (store items), Gwir-palvais (Isengard instance), all of the Dunland quest reward armor (that was when I really did my inventory in lol), and the High Elf starter armor.
35. Are there any quotes you like?
Rodwen and her group of failing adventurers (in Parth Galen/the East Wall in East Rohan) have a lot of choice dialogue, with my favorite being, “We lost Cuilinn not long after leaving Cair Andros; he was a minstrel, and did not understand the need for silence at a crucial moment.”
And I love every sassy comment Corudan makes about third wheeling with Horn and Nona. :D
42. Are there any fun easter eggs you’ve found that you enjoy?
According to the devs it’s not an official easter egg (and wasn’t a connection on their radar at all), but I read on the forums that the Ivy Redsmith/Halson Cleary story line coincidentally mirrors Connie Willis’ short story, “A Letter from the Clearys.” I've never read the story, but I thought that was cool, even if it was unintentional.
My favorite official easter egg is the hidden deed for climbing to the highest point of the Hollin Ridge, which bestows the “Ridge-racer” title upon completion. My main bore the title proudly for a long time. :D

Ugh I should have made coffee. Third day in a row, I wake up with a headache - not a terrible one, but still rather unusual.
My Hydrasynth is arriving in a few hours!!! Happiness is polyphonic aftertouch and no headache.
I finished Dishonored (2012) yesterday, so a few more thoughts. It’s been almost exactly 7 years since I first played it - my first and only playthrough then was done with no deaths (”Clean Hands”), no power upgrades (”Mostly Flesh and Steel”), and not being seen (”Shadow” and “Ghost” achievements) - thanks to the miraculous power of quick save. (Have to admit, playing it today was a bit easier, with quick load taking 2-3 seconds.)
This time I went with same low-chaos run, but eventually gave up on the Ghost achievement (not being ever seen), as it made the game much more fun to just roll with the punches, sometimes just wasting 10 sleep darts when a bunch of guards start swarming from all around.
The major drawback from mechanical perspective was that there’s only sleep darts and choking as the two non-murderous options (sometimes I say “nonviolent” but honestly I wouldn’t describe someone sneaking up to me and choking me unconscious as nonviolent). The major drawback of the story was the fridged empress, of course, and the flat acting of the outsider (which they drastically improved in D2 and DotO).
Stories of forgiveness and redemption are as appealing to me as any day. Sometimes I feel dumb for wasting time on video games, but I do believe Dishonored still has something to say about the human condition. Dishonored also masterfully foreshadows. While the details of the story felt fresh enough that at no point I went “ugh this old boring cliche of a mission”, at no point I could also say “wow that is so out of character”. The Heart gave you all the information in advance, in small bits, enough for you to understand something from inside the character that they weren’t telling you to your face.
The thing that makes Dishonored a real masterpiece is the level design (in combination with the gameplay mechanics and powers, of course). I had so many good memories of different locations, which felt like they must have been from several DLCs and maybe the sequels - it’s a shock how they managed to craft such large, thematically varied locations that each felt like it had a purpose consistent with the world logic. Having attempted the Ghost playthrough in 2015, and possibly on Hard difficulty, I feel like that affected how memorable everything is - not having the power to see guards through walls meant I had to be hyper-aware of my surroundings instead of just rushing in, looking around, and then running away until the dust settles.
This is a part of the reason why I liked Thief:DS even if it wasn’t universally loved - the world in between main levels just added a lot of context. It wasn’t just “you’re in a mansion, steal everything”. You could see the world affected by your actions.
One minor disappointment in Dishonored is that you can loot everything from everyone and nobody cares (I still left bread to plague survivors because it didn’t feel right to take it) - but otherwise, same as Thief:DS, you can see the world as the context of whatever your main objective is. The game displays the economic, health and power struggles with its level design and NPCs.
Another thing is how they weave the story through lore books and notes - the books are always an optional reading, but the notes almost always have something more directly related to the story, mission, loot, or side quest. It’s never just “the code to the safe is 451”, it’s always some sort of “you idiot be more careful when smuggling the whiskey out, you know where to find the code”. Everything is consistent with the world, nothing is out of place. Everything contributes to storytelling. The starving survivors, the golden bars in lords’ safes.

PLAYING: Sable
Tumblr media
To quote one of the best Star Wars movies of all time, "Now this is pod racing!"
I saw a screenshot of Sable, and it was the character riding a hover-bike through a vast desert with an 80's cartoon vibe and I knew I was going to love the game. What I saw in the early screenshots and videos and is what I expected and what I'm getting: a peaceful, but emotional exploration-heavy adventure game. It's exactly the type of game I love and this is hitting all the notes perfectly.
The game is reminding me of both Wavetale and AER. Also a little bit of Roki, Borderlands, and Omno--but never mind, we're getting distracted. The Wavetale involves a spirited character traveling around a unique, open, post-apocalyptic world. And similar to such, involves some platforming!! Aer comes in the form of simple but effective graphics, "flying" to destinations, and exploring mysterious temples and zones.
I love it!
So, the beginning of the game has it "praying" at a temple. Sable, our main character is a woman--which after playing something a little more male-centric like KOTOR is nice--and she lives a village of nice people who are also mostly women. Cool.
Everyone wears masks. I assume that's an art decision to avoid making and animating faces. But they make the masks story relevant, so no worries--we'll pretend not to notice. Sable is about to start her..."Gliding"? She basically wonders around trying to figure out what she wants to be/do with the rest of her life. Sounds a lot like what college kinda is, but totally should be. Or really, what one's 20s should be: a chance to explore, make mistakes, and gain worldly knowledge/wisdom.
But first, she needs a bike. They give you a clunker. Partly as a joke and story element, but I suspect it also makes you appreciate your decent bike later. You're tasked with exploring some zones to find parts to your bike. One part is stolen and hidden by a local trouble maker, but we learn that she was really just nervous about the change brought about Sable's leaving. She may never see Sable again and that's a lot to contend with.
Interestingly, the game is really hooked into its emotions. Every character interaction has a blend of excitement and sorrow for the journey. This is an important step for Sable's culture, but also a scary and sad one--as you miss people as they go off to find their place in the world, and you may never see them again.
I think this works--because many games/movies/books make the adventure a bad thing. Take Lord of the Rings, Frodo wants to live a life of peace in Hobbiton. It's against his wishes to set out on a journey across the country to drop a ring off with the elves. And then it's against his will to commit to carrying that ring to a volcano deep within the territory of a magical and powerful enemy. So there's this weird conflict where in order to have adventure and fun, we must almost endure pain and horror. Sable says fuck that. Adventure is good! Exploring is good! Doesn't mean it's not sad to be away from your friends, but it's not something to be feared or done out of fear.
The game is relaxing. I've moved from the starting area, which is about as big as opening World of Warcraft areas (and if you know me, I love any time a game gives me WoW vibes). Now I'm in a larger area. The game has "towns" wherein one can claim quests. Usually it's go here and get this, but some have some interesting elements: such as using seeds to lure and catch beetles, or using a puffy thing to convince a giant beetle to unblock a tunnel. The game isn't original, but it's good. Like a Cohen Brother's movie, it's using the tried and true methods of game design to make an interesting and unique experience.
There's no fighting, so far, and I appreciate that. Fighting is boring. It's just an excuse to slow you down or insert drama when one has no creativity. But my favorite part of 3D adventure games going back to Mario 64 is the exploring. Sure, combat can be fun sometimes, but I can be entertained for hours just exploring. Like WoW, I love seeing this cool world the developers crafted. And I'm inconvenienced by all the mobs I have to cut through to do so. I'd be just as happy to play WoW with no combat. Wouldn't fit well with the title I guess.
Sable is exactly what I needed though. i tried to play Jak & Daxter for my family recently and no one was into it. For my wife, there isn't enough story. Sure, they gave you mission objectives at the towns, but once you're out in the world it's just exploring (which I love). With Zelda games, there tends to be a bit more story happening mid dungeon and exploration. Or clever puzzles to overcome. But also--the game is pretty cynical. It was made by unconsciously sexist men thinking that being mean and grumpy was funny. And in truth, i found it funny when I was younger. Now I find it cringe and uninteresting. I still love Jak, but it's not the "story" experience I want nor what I want to expose my kids to. Sable is much more interesting, and it's possible my family would dig it too.
But Sable is just for me right now. We still haven't beaten Kingdom Hearts and need to get back on that program. And i'm really enjoying Sable. I have many games I hope to get through--but I'm going to try to take my time with Sable and play it my own pace.

Pick three random ocs and share three random facts about them!
sorry this took so looooong, I really struggled to come up with anything... Anyway, this is long, shoving under a cut!
Mist
Mist is, surprisingly, the closest of the siblings with their mother, Lynn. It's a little ironic that Lynn wanted a big family, and how her initial reaction was to see Mist's 'birth' as an obstacle to that, for then Mist to become the only one she focused on OOP. (No one ever said she was a good mother LMAO)
Mist is taking alchemy-related and economics classes at college, as she would like to open her own apothecary back home. Which she absolutely could have done straight out of school, but Mist isn't the kind to half-ass anything.
Mist knew about Loch and Asher long before any of the other siblings because, unlike them, she actually pays attention LMAO.
Oli
Oli really isn't too fond of his last name. It carries too much weight with its instant recognisability. Even more so now outside Grey's Harbour, where no one knows him as a person but everyone knows the name Landgraab.
Unbeknownst to Loch, Oli also knew about Loch and Asher long before the siblings. Partially because he also paid attention when they were teens (lmao), but also because once, when storming out after an argument with River, he practically crashed into the back of Asher as he was sneaking out.
Oli has, perhaps surprisingly, not exactly forgiven but essentially put what River did behind him almost entirely. Oli has never been the type to hold grudges, especially when he's moved on and happy with Tommy. He knows holding onto those bitter feelings was only hurting himself more. I think there's also a (definitely unhealthy) part of him that still thinks it's partly his fault, whichhhhh makes me sad, now I'm sad, dammit. (now, Maurice, on the other hand... ಠ_ಠ forgiveness at zero)
Sylvie
Sylvie is currently living in London, though her main family home is in a small rural town called Cladbridge-on-Stowe in Oxfordshire. Her dad is a wealthy businessman that spends a lot of his time in London, but Sylvie and her mother spent most of her childhood in Cladbridge.
Her mother moved to England from Spain to study at university, where she met Sylvie's father. Sylvie can understand and speak Spanish for the most part, though she can't speak entirely fluently as a speech therapist convinced her parents learning two languages was "confusing her".
Bay and Sylvie met playing an MMO. Neither of them took it very seriously, as Bay was only playing for something to do in the evenings when Heaven was asleep, and Sylvie was bored while recovering from a sprained ankle. They hit it off helping each other with early game quests when no one else was interested in helping newbies. Their connection came naturally to them, even online, and they decided to meet in person when Bay went on a business trip to London. They've been dating semi-long distance for almost a year. Heaven only met her about four months ago, though, and only learnt they were dating right before the sibs went off to Dragon Valley for River's BC.

Just Friends
Masterlist
Pairing: Tom Holland x Actress!Reader
Summary: You and Tom haven’t seen each other since filming Uncharted, and you decide to surprise him at his Jimmy Kimmel interview. Although you’ve always been “just friends,” you can’t help but think there’s something more.
A/N: Hey y’all sorry it’s been a few days since I last posted, I’ve just been super stressed with school and stuff, but I actually really like this fic and I hope you guys like it too!
Warnings: Language, fluff, angst if you squint
WC: 2.4k
~~~~~~~~
It’s been months since you and Tom last saw each other in person.
While filming Uncharted, the two of you had become extremely close, hanging out in each other’s trailers and spending all of your free time together. In such a short period, you had become best friends, but neither of you could deny the spark of something more. Unfortunately, the two of you never got to explore that spark because of the short time limit. After wrapping, you and Tom went your separate ways, him to Atlanta to film Spiderman 3, and you back to your hometown for a well-deserved break.
That doesn’t mean you two haven’t stayed in contact though. You and Tom have texted and facetimed almost every day since you parted ways, or as much as his busy filming schedule allows. Throughout this time, however, you never seemed to discuss the obvious love connection between you two. Without actually speaking about it, you both seemed to agree that that conversation would be better to have in person.
This bring us to today, where Tom is backstage at Jimmy Kimmel, anxiously waiting for his interview segment of the show. He picks up his phone and decides to text you before he goes on to settle his nerves, wishing you were here to comfort him in person.
T: Are you watching the show yet?
Y: yep I already have my tv turned to abc! are you going on soon?
T: Yeah, I’m so nervous though
Y: why? you’ve been on the show before and you’re like amazing at interviews
T: Idk, Jimmy just said “be ready for a surprise” and he looked really suspicious so I’m scared
T: I just hope they don’t bring like Jennifer Aniston out or something because I would totally freeze and make a fool out of myself
Y: lmao that would be kinda funny tho, but I’m sure you have nothing to worry about
T: Okay we’ll see haha
T: Gtg I’m on in 10, I’ll facetime you after I’m done!
Y: kk, good luck tommy :)
T: Ahh thank you!!
What Tom doesn’t know is that you are ten times more nervous than him. While he’s under the impression that you’re sitting on your living room couch watching the show, you are actually in the dressing room down the hall from him.
Last month, when Tom told you he was going to be on Jimmy Kimmel to promote Cherry, you had the idea to surprise him. You emailed Jimmy not expecting a response, but to your surprise, he actually emailed you back and loved your idea.
So, here you are, waiting backstage and shaking with anticipation to surprise Tom. To be completely honest, you’re even more nervous now that you know Tom is expecting some big star like Jennifer Aniston, who you know has always been his biggest celebrity crush. But nonetheless, you shake off the nerves as best as you can, just hoping everything goes well.
“Please welcome our first guest… Tom Holland everyone!” you hear Jimmy’s voice over the speaker in your dressing room.
Now that Tom is on stage, you can safely leave the room without him seeing you, and you head to the side stage, waiting for your cue.
Tom and Jimmy talk about Cherry for a few minutes, and you can’t help but admire him. His voice, his face, his outfit, everything about him is just perfect. And even better, he’s here in person, closer than he’s been to you in a long time. It takes every ounce of self-control in you to stop yourself from running onstage and hugging him now. ‘Only a minute longer,’ you tell yourself.
“So, other than Cherry, what other upcoming projects are you working on?” Jimmy inquires onstage.
Almost there…
“Well, as most of you know,” Tom addresses the audience, “I’m filming Spiderman 3 right now, which has been going brilliantly. It’s definitely going to be the best one of all the Spiderman movies I’ve done. And I just wrapped on a film called Uncharted a few months ago in Berlin, which was so much fun.”
“Ooh, Uncharted, tell us more about that!"
“Yeah, well it’s based on the video game, and I play the main character, Nathan Drake, who’s on a quest throughout the film. It’s a lot like Spiderman in a way, with all the stunts and stuff, and I think it’s going to turn out great, I can’t wait to see it finished.”
“That sounds like a lot of fun! And if I’m not mistaken, you seem to have met a certain Y/N Y/L/N while filming?”
“Oh, Y/N, yeah, she’s great,” he starts to gush, and you immediately smile, “we became friends super fast, and I miss her so much. I wish she could be here right now, but she’s watching from home actually, so hey Y/N!” he looks directly at the camera and waves, as if he’s waving to you through the screen.
That’s your cue. You tiptoe onstage behind Tom, trying your best to shush the immediate gasps from the audience.
“Well Tom,” Jimmy smiles, “I think your wish may have come true.”
“Huh?” Tom looks around, confused, until his eyes land on you, and he completely freezes.
“Hey Tom,” you smile.
“Y/N! Holy shit! You’re here, you’re actually here!” he exclaims, not caring that he just cursed on live TV.
Tom immediately springs off the couch and sprints to you, arms outstretched. As soon as he reaches you, he picks you up in a tight hug and spins you around, both of you laughing. He sets you down, but still keeps you in a tight embrace, not pulling away until neither of you can breathe. He steps backwards to take you in, still trying to fathom that you’re actually here, with him, after all this time.
“Y/N, wha-, how? I thought you were at your house!” Tom can barely form a sentence, smiling wider than ever and completely out of breath.
“Eh, my house was boring. I thought it would be more fun here with you,” you smile.
He pulls you in again, whispering, “I missed you so fucking much.”
“You have no idea,” you whisper back, resting your forehead on his.
The two of you lock eyes, and for a moment, it’s like you are the only two people in the world. You both start to lean in, lips almost touching, when Jimmy interjects.
“Alright, you two, while that was very sweet, we do still have the rest of the show to get through, so why don’t you come sit down,” Jimmy laughs, bringing you and Tom back to reality.
“Right, of course,” Tom responds, trying his best to keep cool in front of the audience.
Tom ushers you to the couch, keeping one hand on the small of your back as he follows you. He keeps his arm around you when you sit, staying as close to you as possible without raising any more suspicions from the audience.
“So, you two, huh?” Jimmy smirks.
“What? Oh, no, Jimmy, we- we’re just friends,” you laugh trying your best to hide the obvious blush on your cheeks.
“I don’t know, that seemed like a little more than just friend behavior to me over there,”
“What do you expect, I haven’t seen her in half a year!” Tom exclaims, saving you from more embarrassment.
“Okay, okay, fine. Just friends,” he turns to the camera and winks, earning laughs from the audience.
“Anyways Y/N, we already talked about Tom, so tell us about you! How was your experience filming Uncharted?” thankfully, Jimmy moves on.
“Well, up until this point I had only really done small indie films, so it was definitely a major change. But Tom was so nice in helping me and it actually turned out to be such an amazing experience, probably the most fun I’ve ever had filming a movie…”
You go on for a few more minutes, talking to Jimmy about your role in Uncharted and your career in general, exchanging small glances with Tom, who just sat back and listened, completely entranced by you.
“Alright, well thank you so much for coming Y/N, it was great to have you! I’m afraid I have to keep Tom for a few more minutes for our next segment, but you’ll have him all to yourself soon enough,” Jimmy smiles.
You laugh, “Thank you so much for having me Jimmy, it was such a pleasure!”
You stand up and hug both Jimmy and Tom, giving Tom a small peck on the cheek before you walk offstage, waving to the audience as you leave.
You smile all the way back to your dressing room, completely overjoyed that you were successful in surprising Tom. As soon as you sat down on the small couch, not even two minutes after you walked offstage, your phone starts blowing up with notifications.
You see that your best friend texted you, so you check that first.
BFF: so you and tom huh? girl why didn’t you tell me?????
Y: what no???
Y: we’re just friends!!
BFF: that’s not what literally all of twitter thinks
Y: wdym? they don’t know anything
BFF: go check rn, i’m telling you they’re going batshit crazy over you two
You check Twitter and immediately see the fans already going crazy over you and Tom.
“just friends”????? bullshit did y’all see the way they almost KISSED?????
TOM AND Y/N I SHIP I SHIP I SHIP
did y’all see the way tom looked at y/n? he’s totally in love omg
UGH I’M SO JEALOUS AKSDHJSAHDSHD I WANT TO BE Y/N SO BAD
they’re so cute help omg
THE WAY Y/N FLEW OUT TO CALIFORNIA JUST TO SURPRISE TOM??? JUST FRIENDS MY ASS
Were you really being that obvious? You quickly call your friend, looking for some advice on what to do, and she picks up right away.
“Okay you were right, they’re going absolutely insane,” you start.
“I mean what do you expect y’all almost kissed on live tv!”
“Shut up.”
“Come onnnnn Y/N, I know you like him and he obviously likes you too so just talk to him! You already know that you two would be the cutest fucking couple ever. Plus you already have the approval of twitter what more could you need?”
You laugh, but you’re still hesitant.
“I don’t know, what if he doesn’t like me back?
“HE. ALMOST. KISSED. YOU. ON. LIVE. FUCKING. TELEVISON. I THINK HE LIKES YOU BACK BITCH!”
“Okay first of all we didn’t almost kiss, and second of all I don’t want to ruin our friendship. Plus how would I even tell him?”
“Okay YES YOU DID ALMOST KISS! And this isn’t middle school! Just tell him how you feel.”
“I’ll think about it.”
“Think about what?”
You whip around and see Tom standing at your dressing room door.
“Fuck I gotta call you back,” you whisper, quickly hanging up the phone.
You turn back to Tom, still standing in the doorway.
“How much of that did you hear?” you ask, blushing profusely.
“Um, all of it I think,” Tom looks down and you immediately start to freak out.
Tom, however, looks back up at you and smirks.
“So you like me huh?”
You stay silent for a moment, a billion thoughts running through your head. You contemplate denying it and staying just friends with Tom. But then you think back to what your best friend told you just a second ago.
“Just tell him how you feel.”
“Yeah Tom. I like you. And not as a friend. This isn’t really the way I intended on telling you, and I get if you don’t feel the same way, but the way I feel about you isn’t just platonic. There’s a connection between us that I felt since the day we met and I can’t help but think that you feel it too. And then today it just got, like, ten times stronger and I-“
Tom promptly cuts you off by cupping your jaw and placing his lips on yours, sending a rush throughout your entire body. His lips feel like heaven, moving ever so gently against yours, and again, it feels like you two are the only people on Earth. The kiss is warm and loving, and although it doesn’t last long, the moment has already been engraved in your mind for eternity.
He pulls back, looking into your eyes, making sure he hasn’t made a mistake, but you only stare back at him ten times more lovingly.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that.” he whispers.
“Me too,” you whisper back.
He takes your hands in his, “Y/N, I do feel that connection, and I want us to be more than just friends. I always have.”
As much as you are relieved that Tom feels the same way, you can’t help but worry.
“What about the distance? Are you sure we can handle that?”
“Of course we can,” Tom assures you, “I don’t care how far away we are from each other, I love you, and I’m never letting any amount of distance take that away.”
“But these past few months have been so hard without you, and we haven’t even been dating, I just- I don’t want to be apart from you anymore.”
“Then move in with me. Come to London and live with me!”
“Okay,” you grin.
“Wait, really?” Tom questions, taken aback.
“Yeah, why not? I mean, obviously we won’t be able to be together all the time because of our jobs, but it’ll be the closest thing.”
“Are you sure? That’s a big commitment to move that far.”
“I’m positive Tom. You’re my best friend, and now, I guess you’re my boyfriend,” you giggle, “I love you too, and I want to be with you, even if that means moving thousands of miles to London.”
Tom smiles, “You called me your boyfriend.”
“Shut up you dork, come here.”
You pull him in for another kiss, still feeling like you’re floating. Your lips once again move perfectly together, as if they’re made for each other. You’re completely consumed in him, and him in you, and in this moment, you know that he is the only one for you. In this moment, you know that you want to spend the rest of your life with him, and only him, and it’s the best feeling in the world.
a/n: i can't believe I actually posted this on time. i hope you guys like it!
Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four
Atticus leans against a tree, his hands in his pockets as he gives the wood nymphs a smirk that made you want to throw up. The three girls that stand in front of him giggle, nudging his shoulder playfully at something he said. You couldn't hear much from afar, but you doubt it was that funny, the girls just entertaining him because he's handsome or whatever. You scoff softly under your breath, turning away and sharing a look with Lou Ellen, who's scratching the backs of Ambrose's ears. The two of you rolling your eyes simultaneously before you turn on your heels.
While talking amongst themselves, your older brothers are huddled together, the three of them with furrowed eyebrows, serious stares seemingly deep in conversation. As Ernest takes a moment to look up from their circle, you meet his gaze. You don't fail to notice the nervous smile he gives you as he lightly jabs Alabaster in the ribs with his elbow. Furrowing your eyebrows, your steps become hesitant as Alabaster halts mid-sentence, his scowl fading into a friendly smile.
“What’s up?” You ask hesitantly. It was clear you had interrupted something. James and Ernest look at Alabaster, waiting for him to respond to your question. Alabaster shakes his head,
“Nothing. What happened? Got bored of watching your brother flirt with the wood nymphs?” He jokes with you, and you smile, willing to look past the strange tension between them.
“Not bored, more like I couldn’t stand it anymore,” you say, making your brothers chuckle.
“Dude’s got game,” Ernest nods proudly as he shrugs. You cringe,
“Gross.” Lou Ellen giggles as she joins you, her arms wrapping around yours. “Anyways, what are we doing to pass time today?”
Capture the flag was probably one of the activities you hated most at camp. Especially when you were playing on the same side as the Ares Cabin. None of you were strong sword fighters or archers, only relying on your powers in battle and this deemed you guys as not useful by Clarisse’s standards. This meant you and your siblings were always stationed at the same side of the forest where you rarely got any action.
Alabaster hums, his hands shoved in his pockets, “I was actually thinking that we should take over the game,” he suggests, and your eyes widen in surprise.
“What? Clarisse will lose her mind if we meddle with the game.” You really didn’t want to deal with her. Because of the run-ins you've had with her in the past, you preferred to stay out of her way because then, for the most part, she’ll stay out of yours. You were slow to anger, but when you got riled up about something, you raged. And in terms of Clarisse, she just knew how to get you there. Alabaster rolls his eyes,
"Yeah, well, we always lose because Clarisse takes the same approach every time. She has us tossed to the side as if we're useless. I'm serious; let’s prove ourselves. You can get the flag, Y/n. Take down Percy, and we'll cover you."
You shift, exchanging looks with your brothers. Not only were you surprised at Alabaster wanting to jump in the game, but he was also assigning you the task of taking down the other team's main defense. Alabaster was hands down your most powerful sibling at camp. Though you didn’t have a cabin, there was an unspoken agreement that he was the representative of the Hecate children. He’s been studying the longest and has taught you almost everything you know. You weren’t sure why he was putting you out there when he could do a better job at trapping Percy. Though Alabaster has praised you for being a quick learner and dedicated to your studies, you didn’t quite see the potential he obviously saw in you.
"I don't know… me against Percy? I don't think I'm the best one to put out there," you gradually begin mumbling your words as Alabaster’s face hardens at your self-doubt. He scoffs, looking off into the forest as he shakes his head,
"You’re more powerful than you think, Y/n. What is he gonna do? Splash you?" You gawk at him, not sure if he was discrediting Percy's powers or if he was truly ignorant to what he could do. You haven't seen Percy do much in person, but from the stories you've heard about what he's done on his quests, you couldn't act like he wasn't powerful. Your brother’s chuckle at what Alabaster said, and Ernest nods,
“You got this, Y/n. Remember, our powers are almost limitless; it all depends on up here,” he says as he taps your forehead with his index finger softly. “Your mind can be your sidekick or your downfall.”
You smile at the reminder and nod. Your siblings have always been your biggest motivators when it came to your magic. There are only 8 of you, so you guys are a tight-knit group, always encouraging each other to excel in your abilities.
Though you guys are all around the same age, you look up to your brothers the most. Alabaster, Ernest, and James are the most knowledgeable ones out of the bunch. They were usually the ones giving demonstrations of spells and potions, passing you notes from their book of shadows. James taught you and Atticus how to control your magic when you were angry, Alabaster taught you most of your defense magic, and Ernest just had a way of being able to lift everyone's spirits. They believed in you, you all believed in each other, and you couldn’t ask for a better family.
Still, with their words of praise and advice, you were still hesitant about going head to head with Percy. You didn’t want to disappoint them, though, not wanting to seem scared or weak.
“Okay, fine." Your siblings chatter excitedly, Alabaster smiling proudly as he pats your shoulder.
“Atticus!” Alabaster shouts, interrupting whatever your brother was saying to the wood nymphs.
“Yeaah?”
“Come over here.” Alabaster chuckles as Atticus's shoulders slump. He looks at the girls he was talking to, smiling at them before dismissing himself.
“What is it? I was on a roll,” he says, playfully annoyed.
“They’re sending me out as bait,” you say dramatically as you frown. Atticus furrows his eyebrows,
“Uh, what?” You laugh at his reaction, Alabaster side-eyeing you with a smile on his own face.
“What she means is she’s going to take down Percy, and we’re gonna handle the guys around the flag. James, Ernest, and I are gonna shadow travel as far as we can, which is maybe a little before their last line of defense, okay? You, Lou Ellen, Sage, and Alice are gonna deal with the Apollo kids,” he says, the 7 of you listening attentively. You shift on your feet; head cocked to the side as you raise your hand.
“Yes?”
“If you guys can shadow travel closer to the flag, why don’t you guys end the game?”
“Because it’ll piss Clarisse off even more if it's you,” James smirks, and your jaw drops,
“Oh, now, you’re really throwing me into the line of fire, huh?” Your face is straight as your siblings laugh, and you cross your arms over your chest. “I don’t know why you guys are laughing. I don’t find this very funny,” you retort, looking away to hide your smile. You couldn’t deny that you wanted to see Clarisse’s reaction when she realizes it was you who got the flag.
“When you have the flag, and it’s time to run back to the pond, you have to become ethereal,” Alabaster says, and you blink,
“What?! I just learned how to do that! And I did it at night,” you say, a little panicked. “I don’t know if I can hold it for long and-”
“You’ll do it,” Alabaster cuts you off, and you take a step back as Ambrose whines in displeasure. He definitely wasn’t giving you a choice, and it bothered you. You were grateful for his belief in you, but you really hated how nonchalant he was, considering you could get hurt. “Ready?” He asks the rest of the group, moving on from your concern and your jaw clenches. You feel unprepared, but it seems like it didn’t matter, so you didn’t bother saying anything else.
“Whatever,” you mumble, and you walk past your siblings, your familiar trotting close behind you. Before you disappear in the trees, you hear Atticus say something about not being sure if you should go out there alone before Alabaster shuts him down.
It didn’t take you long to arrive near the pond. Dodging the twigs and leaves on the forest ground, you get as close as you can, hiding behind a tree. You cautiously peek over the side to see if Percy was by the pond as he usually was and to your surprised, the pond is unguarded. You consider making a run for it but something about this felt too easy. Why wouldn't he be at the pond? A high-pitched whine comes from Ambrose’s lips, snapping you out of your thoughts and you quietly shush him, not wanting to get caught.
“Looking for me?” A familiar voice says, and you turn around fast finding Percy a few feet from you, his sword up and ready. The Percy you were met with in the past week or so always had this friendly glint to him. But right now, his eyes were clouded with determination. You feel your heart beating hard in your chest, but you maintain a pretty good poker face as you pull the dagger that’s strapped to your thigh in one motion.
You were by no means a strong sword fighter. Like everyone else, you attended a few classes initially, but it didn’t take you long to realize it wasn’t your domain. It didn’t come as natural for you as the other campers, and you hated when you weren’t good at something right away. After many defeats, you gave up, deciding you’ll excel in your magic so you can depend on it instead.
Your strategy was to go head to head with Percy with your abilities, not like this. Before you could adjust your plan, Percy makes the first move, lunging toward you. His movements were fast and strong, and you were struggling to keep up from the start. You grunt as you manage to defend his attacks, not confident enough to go for a hit because you weren’t sure of your timing. You had to think fast. There was no way you'd be able to win in this sword fight. So you did the last thing he'd expect, you ran away.
"Hey!" Percy calls after you, and you can hear the confusion in his voice. He looks around, not sure if this was some way to distract him or if you really gave up on the fight.
You turn around when you’re about 10 feet from him and you quickly shove your dagger into its casing. Electric green orbs form at the palms of your hands, and you swallow as concentrate on the tug in your gut. Your eyes meet Percy’s, the other now understanding what you were doing once he sees you form the orbs in your hands. He smiles, accepting the challenge as he caps his sword before shoving it in his pocket. His fingers spread out, his arm extended on his sides. He takes a deep breath as he channels his energy, and before you could send out your first attack, you see the water from the pond behind him rising in a thick controlled stream.
As he sends the stream right to you, you felt like everything went in slow motion. Your pulse is loud in your ears, and you focus on your energy, grunting loudly as you send out a thick green beam right at his water. You squint your eyes as you feel droplets splashing on your face from where your magic met his stream. There is a loud hissing in the air as the intense heat from your energy evaporates the water on impact. You’re out of breath by the time Percy retreats, his eyes darkening as he formulates another plan to attack.
Not letting him muster something stronger than what he did before, you begin throwing energy orbs at his feet rapidly, watching the heat burn the grass as Percy jumps back every time.
You had a new plan now, and as ridiculous as it sounded, a part of it was to get him in the pond. Most people would want to get him away from the water, but that would be too easy of a solution, and he’d be expecting that strategy. You had decided that you had to use his powers against him. Just as you planned, Percy eventually jumps into the water with a cocky smirk and you bite your lip. Don’t mess this up.
You close your eyes, feeling a tug in your core as you imagine yourself teleporting behind Percy. When you open them, you’re met with the back of his head, and before he can look around for you, you kick him behind the knees hard. He groans, falling forward into the water.
"Sorry!" You mumble as you jump out of the pond. The water begins to rise around him, and with the most confident voice you can muster, you shout,
“Incantare: Conglacio!" Your arms spread up in front of you, toward the pond. Almost immediately, the water that was risen suddenly becomes frozen solid around Percy. He grunts as he tries to move, quickly realizing that he was trapped in the ice from the knee down. You weren't sure of the extent of Percy's control over water, and you take into consideration that he may be able to change the temperature of it, but you don't wait to find out.
You speed past the pond, Ambrose racing after you, and he barks loudly. Not wanting to make the mistake of ignoring his warnings, you look up and you see campers from the Apollo cabin settled on the branches already pulling back their arrows.
“Where are they?” You mutter, hearing the whooshing noise of the bows being released. Anger and annoyance swirl in your chest at your sibling's late timing. You were already on edge about this whole plan. Now that you’ve taken down one of your big hurdles, you were determined to finish this game, not wanting to feel like a fool for trying if you failed.
Your orbs glow green with the returning of your aura, and you shout angrily as you abruptly stop running. In one quick motion, you extend your arms beside you with clenched fists, blasting a veil of your energy like a force field. The force sends their arrows in the opposite direction and manages to knock a few Apollo campers off the trees. You didn’t knock all of them, but it bought you enough time to run as they tried to regain their balance. Halfway through, you hear shouting and groaning as your siblings take down the rest and bind their arms behind their backs with magic.
You run past the Apollo cabin's defense, and soon, you arrive where the flag is. James and Ernest entertain the two disarmed Athena campers that were guiding the flag, fighting them with their hands while Alabaster tied up a couple of other campers in the trees nearby.
“Grab her!” One of the Athena campers yells, his partner lunging toward you without hesitation. You manage to dodge his attempt, the other grunting as he falls from the force that didn't meet your body.
The moment you were close enough to snatch the flag out of the ground and you hear your brothers cheering you on as you sprint back. Your mind races, not sure when you should attempt to become ethereal, and you begin to worry if you’ll even transform at all. Soon, you're greeted with your answer as you catch sight of Mark, one of Clarisse’s brothers, sprinting toward you, and you curse under your breath. Mark will take the flag from you and run back with it himself and you couldn't just let him claim you win. It was much earlier than you wanted, but there was no other choice.
You let out a rough breath, and you focus hard, recalling what you felt the night you transformed for the first time. A gradual tingle becomes more intense as it starts from your fingertips and from the tips of your toes. The sensation creeps up your arms and legs until it meets together in your stomach and as your core vibrates, you smile, knowing you’ve succeeded.
Your siblings shout at you excitedly from the sidelines, the moment you transform, laughing and taunting Mark while he makes useless attempts to grab you. You focus hard to maintain the vibrating in your core as you approach the river, afraid that you will lose your hold. As you get closer to the pond, you lock eyes with Annabeth as she, Percy, and a few others are waiting for your arrival.
If you weren't ethereal, she would have tackled you straight to the ground no problem, but as expected, she ran right through you. The other campers attempt to catch you after Percy sends out a thick slash of water that would have grabbed you by the waist and up in the air.
“What?! How are you doing that?!” Annabeth shouts, and you don’t say anything as finally get to the other side of the pond and you stab the flag in the ground. Your muscles and chest burn, and you double over, hands on your knees to catch your breath. The satyrs blow the horn and at the sound of it, echoing through the forest, signally your triumph, you manage a ragged laugh.
The distant cheers of your siblings become louder as they appear from the trees, running to you. The energy in your core disperses as you turn back to normal, but you don't have much time to recover. The moment your brothers approach you, you feel yourself being picked up and tossed in the air.
“Guys! Please,” you choke through your laughs, squealing when they throw you a little too high for your liking. You look over to your right, seeing Percy smiling, silently congratulating you as Annabeth was pink with anger.
As your brothers put you down, you notice Malcolm showing up a few seconds late with your team’s flag in his hand. Behind him, Clarisse stomps towards you with a few of her friends following beside her. You had to admit, it was kind of satisfying being the one to get the flag, but if looks could kill, you’d be dead.
“Uh oh,” you mumble as she approaches you, your siblings huddling close beside you protectively, and even Ambrose stands in front of you, growling deeply.
“You messed up the game!” She accuses, and your head jerks back,
“Are you joking? I won the game. Mark was barely halfway by the time I was running here.”
“It doesn’t matter! He would have made it.”
“He really wouldn’t have,” James points out, and Clarisse snaps her attention to him.
“Either way, you guys were supposed to stay on the north side of the forest! You freaks have no place in games like this, anyways.”
“Bold of you to say considering we won the game for you,” you say through a clenched jaw, your eyes glowing as you feel your anger stirring in your chest. You hated when you and your siblings were outed in the camp. Being called freaks or avoided because people deemed you guys as too dangerous without giving you chance, angered you the most. It just wasn't fair.
You laugh, not from amusement, but from disbelief. At this point, you didn’t care, you were at a high after your win, and if Clarisse wanted to fight about it, you were up for it. “Is your pride that wounded, Clarisse? Maybe you aren’t as good as you think you are,” you walk up to her, ignoring Atticus's hesitant calling of your name.
The way Clarisse’s eyes darken failed to intimidate you in your furious state. You guys were practically nose to nose, and in the reflection of her eyes, you can see your aura illuminate wildly around. As Clarisse draws her sword, you smirk, ready to blast her into the trees the moment she decided to move.
“Girls,” Chiron’s voice booms through the silence as he walks through the trees, and the both of you look over. He doesn’t say anything else, the tone of his voice being enough of a warning.
Atticus gently pulls on your arm, and you unwillingly back down. Clarisse scoffs, and she pushes past you hard causing you to stumble back. Atticus catches you from behind, letting you regain your balance and you rub your shoulder, looking back to watch her storming through the forest.
“You did well, Y/n,” Chiron praises, and you smile at him before he goes off to announce the winning of your team. Everyone except for the Ares Campers and the opposite team cheers loudly, excited to have fewer chores after a streak of losing. Soon the team crowds around you, and your siblings start telling a dramatic interpretation of what you did forcing you to chime in here and there as some of the things they described were a little off from the truth. You smile, listening to their chattering, and eventually, you fall behind the crowd as they begin talking about something else. Suddenly, a hand rests on your shoulder, and you look beside you, Alabaster with a proud look on his face.
“I told you you’d do it,” he says teasingly.
“Yeah, yeah.” You wave your hand, lightly nudging his hand off your shoulder. The last thing you wanted was for him to start his ‘I told you so’ speech. “I get it, you believe in me, and whatever,” you joke, and Alabaster laughs,
“I’m serious, Y/n. You’re-”
“More powerful than you think. I know.” You finish his sentence as you shift on your feet. “I guess you’re right,” you admit, mumbling under your breath.
“What was that?” He asks as he leans closer as if he didn’t hear you. You nudge his shoulder and scoff,
“If you missed what I said, then too bad!” You declare as you walk ahead of him. You hear his laughter, and he decides to let it go as he returns to walk with your brothers, Ambrose happily trotting behind him.
“Y/n!” At the call of your name, you turn around, Percy jogging over to you. You giggle, amused at how sweet he looked after being able to intimidate you during the game. “I can’t believe you apologized after kicking me."
“I felt bad,” you admit sheepishly, making him laugh. “How did you get out of the ice?” You ask, playing with the hem of your shorts. He hums,
“It took me a while to figure it out, but apparently I can change the temperature of the water,” he explains, and you nod.
“Yeah, I figured you might be able to. I won’t be using that again,” you say playfully, and Percy smiles.
“What you did was really cool,” he compliments, and you feel your cheeks warm up. Out of all the praise that you’ve heard just now, Percy’s made you feel different. “I have to look out for you now,” he nudges you.
“Yeah, you better watch out, Jackson. I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve,” you warn him, and you take in how he gleams at your banter, making you smile even more.
“I’m looking forward to it. I’m just happy that you can’t trap me in my own element; that would have been embarrassing.”
“I’m kind of bummed about that. It would have been funny if I did, though," you tease and Percy scoffs playfully.
“Y/n!” Alabaster calls on you and the other waves for you to come to him. “You have to rest,” he says shortly. You couldn’t read the expression on his face, but he didn’t look too pleased. You frown and nod, disappointed that your conversation was cut short with Percy.
“I’ll see you later,” you smile softly, and Percy nods.
“Yeah, same,” he says, returning the smile before you turn around to join your siblings back to the cabin.
ULTRA LONG TIME TWIN HEADCANNONS
@sippin-on-waterfalls your post is ready
From Pokedash and Purplefern
Ooooooookay here we go.
_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
-Krux perceives time slower than others so he is easily late to events (plus he gets distracted and way into projects so he can easily lose track of time, ironically) so he could end up missing a lot of Elemental Alliance meetings
-Acronix made sure he informed Krux it was time to go (whenever he remembers, anyway) otherwise he’d be uber late all the time. Good thing they always go together
-Acronix is super early all the time because of his powers and he and Griffon Turner’s grandfather got along really well
-All the same, between lack of attention span, focusing on other things, and not caring for the meetings in general, Krux and Acronix miss a LOT of meetings
-Before alliance meetings Wu is training little Morro and the Twins and the Master of Speed just waltz in the monastery doors an hour early
-Acronix teaches Morro some sick fighting moves (some rather underhanded)
-Krux advises him to never let people get away with harm cause you are the most important thing in your life. (Revenge!)
-Wu be like plz stop encouraging my kid into violence and dishonorable tactics.
-Krux brought refreshments to an EA party exactly once. It was pickled beet tea and nobody liked it. He took it very personally.
-Back during the war, the love triangle with Misako was actually a love rectangle. Krux had a crush on her too but he literally had no idea how to act on it so his part of the rectangle was staring at her longingly from afar and not saying anything.
-Yes Acronix teased him immensely about this. And tried to act as a wingman several times but Krux swore if he did he would murder him
-Pre-series, Misako would do work for the museum a lot, so she ended up working with Sanders Saunders quite often. Despite her relationship to Wu and Garmadon and their “history”, he did like working with her ok
-They both also worked with the Explorer’s Club a lot, and have equal disdain for Cecil Putnam and Clutch Powers
-Krux hates Cecil’s stuffy rules (even though he couldn’t show it while being Dr Saunders) and Clutch’s….everything
-Krux’s doctorate is real, and he has a doctorate in History and and Master’s degree in Museum Studies
-He’s the Curator of History at the museum, and the other curator is the curator of natural sciences
-Acronix is a big nicknames guy. He doesn’t usually call people by their actual names. Only the people he actually cares about or that he super hates.
-But he also generally despises nicknames given TO him. The only people allowed to call him Nix/Nixie are  his brother and mother (and later Shannon).
-Krux only calls Acronix "Nix" if he's feeling particularly vulnerable/scared/etc (so like, when being the older twin isn't feeling that fun and he decides to ignore those 3 minutes and be more like the "younger" twin.) So this becomes a lot less as he becomes more arrogant.
-(Based on how he describes Dareth getting beat up by the Vermillion warrior) Krux likes watching wrestling. It’s a guilty pleasure of his
-And of course Acronix loves it once he learns about it, so the two watch it together
-Krux occasionally plays strategy board games. He tried to get Acronix into them but he found them boring.
-(Sometimes he’ll suck it up and play with him anyway, though.)
-Both are sass masters
-Both also like science
-But like completely different facets of science.
-Krux of course likes the more stable and earthy sciences. Biology and geology, ecology. Those elemental science that have always existed but we just haven’t yet understood them
-Krux is also a total history nerd. Things like paleontology and anthropology are also really interesting to him
-Yes he was a dinosaur kid. (Especially since dinosaurs had just started to be discovered back in his day.)
-Acronix of course likes advancement and the otherworldly sciences. Technology, Astronomy. Sure we build upon the discoveries of the past but what about creating something new for the future?
-Acronix does like bioengeneering since it is a new advancement but he knows saying so would make Krux grin with “I told you bio was cool” vibes
-Krux can engulf himself into his work or his schemes for days. As he is very patient.
-Acronix is less so. He sees time constantly moving forward so sitting idle to “Plan” seems a ridiculous waste of time.
-He jumps from activities quickly as the novelty of it wears off and he is always on a quest for what's new and what may work, not really what has been confirmed to work
-Krux of course sees this as a fool's errand. We need to respect the knowledge we have and use it and plan with it.
-But when they are in sync you should be SCARED
-Both thinking in the Present can make them in perfect harmony, Both in fighting and talking.
-Their different planning methods can help eachother get things done. So yes, when they work together you should be scared
-Krux can get really fixated on an idea, and get into major creative blocks. Acronix helps propose out of the box solutions that keep his ideas moving forwards that he wouldn’t have thought of himself.
-But as we see they can also be reeeeallly different and fight over the miniscule things.
-Krux lingers on Grudges easily as he physically cannot not put value to the events of the past.
-Acronix’s main grudge with the alliance came from his ego and arrogance, not his element. I think he feels very internally about wrongs to him in the moment but if he sees nothing really changed a couple of days later he loses interest in holding such a grudge easily
-Each of them have the ability to not be affected by the other’s powers
-Acronix has no patience to listen to anything he doesn’t want to hear. Back when he had his powers he COULD and WOULD just “skip” peoples’ dialogue if he got bored of it.
-Krux has a bad habit of “freezing” people if he feels like they’re interrupting him. Like, he will freeze people who are trying to get him to stop working on something while he’s trying to get something done, and then get back to them when he feels like it. Everyone has to work on his time. (Annoyingly, this does not affect his brother, which is why Acronix is the only one who can actually get him to stop working on his projects.)
-Whenever Krux & Acronix would hang out with Chen, Acronix loved messing with Clouse. Clouse reminds him of his brother, but even more stuffy and annoyed somehow, so he just has an instinctual urge to annoy him as much as possible.
-(Clouse does not appreciate this, but Master Chen says they’re “important” to his plan so Clouse just suffers quietly.)
-Acronix likes the Master of Speed, but also finds it annoying that he can resist his slo-mo powers by going really fast. (On the bright side, though, this does make him the closest thing to an equal he’ll get for a sparring partner, if Krux doesn’t want to train with him for whatever reason.)
-Because of his element, Sound is one of the rare people who doesn’t really mind Krux but REALLY dislikes Acronix. Acronix is just so loud all the time and it physically pains him because he is so sensitive to vibrations and volume. Krux is generally pretty quiet so doesn’t bug him as much.
-Acronix is an Entrepreneur (ESTP)  and Krux is an Architect (INTJ)
-They have no Feeling whatsoever
-Otherwise, they are complete opposites
-Both of these personality types hate rules, regulations, and micromanaging restricting authority figures (hmm, wonder why they broke away from the alliance…)
-Acronix is arrogant in the way that he doesn’t care about his flaws, because obviously he is awesome and everyone else is just jelly, Krux is arrogant in the way that he hates people pointing out his flaws, because shut up he doesn’t have any
-Their mother is Polaris, they take after her physically
-Father is Kronos, they got their powers and ego from him
-Their father actively encouraged them to have immense pride in their element -- being the former master of time himself
-Ordered them the sweet matching armor
-He was a samurai back in his day, which is why the Twims wore samurai helmets.
-Between their two loving parents, the Twims were nearly spoiled
-Krux and Acronix grew up pretty rich, Kronos was pretty much high society and Polaris was too
-They went to a fairly fancy private school growing up
-But everyone there were snobs so they didn’t get along well with their classmates (what a surprise)
-Their parents died in a skirmish with Serpentine, leading the Twims to join the alliance full of vengeance.
-Acronix has a battle scar from being grazed by an anacondrai sword on his left pec cause I said so
-Also a lot of misc snake bit scars and a burn scar from that one time (Ray’s got a bad temper and Acronix likes pressing people’s buttons, so that went super well)
-Acronix super cares about his looks so has a ton of, like, haircare and beauty products. Krux has a single bottle of 3-in-1 and a bar of soap and says that that’s sufficient.
-Back in the day Acronix had a bunch of oils and whatever for his hair, and when he’s in the present he’s got a bunch of fancy shampoos and such.  He’s definitely the vain one of the two twins
_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*
A collection of Neurodivergent Twims HCs
-Acronix has ADHD and Krux is autisitc
-Acronix is early, but only to things he remembers. He often forgets dates. And Krux will get involved with something else, and has a warped sense of time. Together, the two miss a lot of EM meetings
-And when they’re at them, neither of them are good at conversations. Acronix talks a mile a minute and doesn’t let anyone get a word in edgewise. Krux either doesn’t talk to anyone or similarly dominates conversation and doesn’t let anyone else talk.
-The two also get sent on solo missions alot
-They don’t focus well in a group setting (Acronix generally ignoring the plan for what he prioritizes as the better option and krux simply not being popular with the others and only really battling well beside his brother)
-They are generally strong enough to protect a village by themselves
-The other EM work better with them out of the way since they are “annoying” and no one really likes their arrogance, pride, or entire personhood
-They seem to be happier working only together than with the whole group
-Once during a group charge on a collection of Serpentine races Acronix notices a horde heading in a different direction and follows them impulsive
-All of these things together make them especially unpopular with the other EMs
-Especially with the Master of Ice, who considers their actions disrespectful and often scolds them on their behavior
-Krux and Acronix can BOTH get hyperfixated on things they are interested in, and can also forget to eat and sleep.
-Acronix struggles with insomnia a lot because his brain doesn’t shut up. Luckily his brother never really sleeps either. They spend a lot of long nights talking about nonsense
-Acronix tries to use time skip powers to not waste time while sleeping. He skips the night, but he still didn’t get sleep. He crashes after a few days of this and Krux tells him that he’s a moron
-Acronix has a fidget spinner, which he got for the memes but ended up finding unironically helpful, and gives Krux a fidget cube (which Krux reluctantly accepts and actually does use pretty often.)
-Before learning what a fidget spinner was he would flip his phone a lot. It was both an easily accessible stim and assurance he knew where it was cause he tended to leave things around at random.
-Krux used nail-biting as a stim, mostly because it can appear pretty neurotypical
-Acronix is “annoying” around the ninja during his lil redemption arc, but instead of reacting like the elemental masters, the Ninja actually do research and come to an understanding (especially Zane, who is perceptive, understanding, and has an instantaneous link to the internet).
-Altogether he’s a little surprised when they actually put effort into tolerating and understanding his differences. Huh. How’s bout that?
-Jay is also pretty understanding, he’s got a lot of nd cousins and has ADHD himself so it’s kinda just *shrugs*
-Modern dyes and preservatives really trigger Acronix’s ADHD to be even worse than usual.
-Zane picks up on this, and like the mother hen that he is starts to put in a special effort to keep dyes away from Acronix (or to keep Acronix away from dyes, as the case may be)
-Jay has a similar problem with dyes (which Edna let the Ninja know about, thanks a lot ma ) so Zane works double time to keep them both away from dyes
-Makes special dishes that are “ADHD safe”
-Neither appreciate it (well Jay does but will complain openly at every chance he gets)
-Acronix got into a lot of trouble with their dad when he was a kid, because he just couldn’t pay attention
-Has bursts of anger a lot, oftentimes this happens during things like parties or pre-meeting conversations. (which easily leads to him getting a label of “aggressive” or “hotheaded” by the EMs)
-DEFINITELY struggles with Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria
-Ninjago history is Krux’s special interest
-Krux freezes people around him when he needs a sec to destim
-Krux is pretty high-functioning, but is on the borderline. He's high-functioning enough to be aware of himself and mask, but not enough to avoid things like shut/melt downs
-Acronix is fiercely protective of his brother whenever he shuts down. Messing with Krux while he's like that (whether the antagonist is aware or not) is a one way ticket to his wrath as well as physical punishment.
-Whenever things got too intense at a meeting/party type thing, Acronix would ditch and sneak them both out whenever Krux was heading towards a shut down. Being the awesome supportive twin that he is, he learned to pick up on the signs of one and was certain to prevent them pretty much whenever possible.
-Acronix failed in his efforts only once (he was kind of sick that day and wasn’t at the top of his game to be keeping a watchful eye on his bro), and Krux kind of ended up time freezing a few of the EMs in the process. It was something the elemental masters (or Krux himself)  did not soon forget or forgive.
-He'll go nonverbal sometimes, to the minor aggravation of the alliance. Sign language isn't a thing yet so anyone trying to understand him when he's like this are pretty much reliant on Acronix and his twin sense to translate.
-When their parents died Krux went nonverbal for a little over a month.
-Krux was pretty delayed in learning to speak, he didn’t say his first word until he was 3 ¼
-Even during his redemption arc, Acronix does not tell the Ninja about Krux's autism, from a built in fear that the knowledge would be used against him in possible future battles. (Also because he knows Krux wouldn't want them to know.)
-Krux doesn't just hate phones because “ugh technology”, he also just hates talking on the phone because it’s super difficult
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK there are way more that we have but... did you know there is actually a word limit on Tumblr? Heh heh... If you want more Twim goodness you can read our extensive fanfic collection... or maybe we’ll make a part two (That’ll probably consist of Home life pre-war stuff, post-canon AU junk, Vermillion family nonsense, and more random stuff)
What is your favourite npc from each tes game you've played? Just curious
HMMM. hmmmmmm. hm.
alright so to get the very obvious answers out of the way i'll be disqualifying major plot-important npc's, like almalexia, lucien, etc. bc i feel like those are boring answers.
morrowind: i really liked mehra milo!! she was super interesting and really raised the stakes, and made the main plot feel less like bootleg tolkien magic prophecy nonsense and more like 1984 With Elves, which i LOVED. in wacky fantasy settings i love characters that don't really have any extraordinary powers of their own or grand designs on the future, but still help the protag to the best of their limited ability because it's the right thing to do. that's exciting!!
oblivion: oh my god, glarthir. fucking HILARIOUS. i only played oblivion a few years back so obviously i never got to experience that old-time feel of no wikis/walkthroughs for it specifically, but i did glarthir's quest totally blind with no spoilers and had a blast. he's an excellent microcosm of the very particular weirdness that makes oblivion so special and charming.
skyrim: ARGIS!! my first husband and true love out of all the possible spouses. skyrim was my first tes game, and when i played it in 2012 i was just barely 15 and still blissfully stuck in the closet... i had also just watched 2011 avengers at a friend's house, and totally latched onto mcu thor as The Ideal Man against which all others would be (impossibly) judged. y'know, #justcomphetthings. ANYWAY, argis was like a manifestation of that... i just picked the housecarl that looked like thor. over the past decade i've remade that first oc, minnie the moocher, like three or four times and married her to argis each time. i don't care if it's not gay OR that argis isn't a popular husbando!! i'm just really really invested in the dynamic between minnie and argis and i only want the best for both of them 🥺
eso: it's a tie between quen and walks-softly. what can i say, i loved the thieves guild dlc!! everyone in that guild was fantastic but these two are just the best. quen is sooo precious and sweet and MUST be protected at all times, and as for walks-softly, you know i'm always a sucker for dandies of delicate constitutions. both of them seem wildly incompatible with what you'd expect from a thieves guild, and yet they totally worked, both as individual characters and as cohesive parts of the broader narrative. AND their backstory quests were A+++ so fun to play and seriously tugged at my heartstrings!!
