Hiya! Sorry this is a bit of a random message. I used to strongly believe in Larry back in 1d days, and since watching my policeman I fell down a rabbit hole with looking back at old Larry theories. I’m trying to look at everything through the lens of a rational adult rather than a 17 year old, but I honestly just feel lost.

I just now saw the RBB debunking theory that Mark Littlewood was responsible for them. I did a bit of searching to see other peoples opinions and came across your post from a while back.

I don’t really know how to feel about the bears. As a big part of the fandom at that time, I remember going to the shows and being excited to see what they were doing, and seeing the crazy amount of hype they’d get on here. It seems wild to me that it was just a sound guy who was really interested in queer culture… especially with some of the references they made to closeting/management control etc. if I remember rightly there were also specific references to H&L on their twitter (I’m thinking the bday posts?). Add to that the fact that the props and outfits for these bears were excessive… I just can’t imagine a sound guy having that much time and money on his hands. I know some of the things people were looked into were a massive stretch/coincidence, but there were definitely some direct references that I don’t know how we could of misinterpreted so wrong.

Then again, I saw another post from someone saying how could we really believe 2 people were in such a restrictive closet, but yet managed to get away with something like the bears. Maybe it really was someone who just didn’t understand how far larries would go with their theories. Everyone was so confident in the bears being at least linked to H&L at the time that I didn’t question it.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this ask lol. I just feel like I’m starting to go a bit stir crazy not knowing what I thought was real and what was complete BS. Maybe I was just completely delusional all this time.

I find it really interesting to look back at the bears and see if my perspective has changed anon - so thanks for this ask and I'll try to answer as many of your ideas as you can.

I do think that there's every reason to think that Mark Littlewood was involved with the Bears, as well as them being in his area, the fact that RBB appeared at the Baaba Maal and Little Mix gigs strongly suggests that they ended up with a crew member. It was also always known that crew members were heavily involved in RBB - in the US tours they were set up before 1D members arrived.

I've always found the argument that crew members wouldn't have the money to set up the tableaus very unserious, and showing very little understanding of touring economics. The idea that that was an excessive amount of money to pay for a hobby over a course of year. The only thing that I can think of that was a significant amount of money was the watch - and presumably that watch belonged to someone and went back to them. Anyone on the 1D crew could have easily afforded to do everything we saw (you also mention time - there is a lot of downtime on tour).

So I think it's reasonable to take as a starting point that Mark Littlewood was involved and is probably (although not definitely) the person who ended up with RBB. From that stand point there are two sets of quesstions.

The first is about the travel after tour ended. Did Mark Littlewood travel with 1D after tour ended as the album was released? It seems unlikely, but not impossible (they did do some promo events that were more like gigs and which they might have wanted to bring their own sound guy too). The other part of this is - did the bears travel? At the time I assumed they had, because of the photos of them at Hollywood Walk of Fame (all the other photos could basically have been anywhere). But it would be possible that the photos of the bears were taken at another time. Like anyone who was into queer history enough to run the bears, might have taken photos with them at queer icons at the walk of fame just because it was cool. (Along those lines - does anyone know what time the Potato tweet went out? That would be interesting in terms of what timezone the bears were in (if anyone has a picture that includes the time stamp I'd be very interested))

The other set of questions is around the changes in the bears. One of the things that has always seemed noticeable to me is that there is a difference between the type of queer figures who were shown in the tableaus during tour and the type of queer figures that were shown on twitter. The figures in the tableaus during concerts included really deep cuts, some very British references and went back much further. The twitter references are much more mainstream. I always assumed that a slightly different group of people were involved after they stopped touring. So even if Mark Littlewood did end up with the bears - there's still at least one other person involved.

I actually have a third point - looking at the twitter feed and concerts now - it seems reasonably clear to me that the bears didn't go to Ireland. I wonder if they were left behind, or a key person wasn't with them. (It would be somehow be very typical if a large part of the 1D fans mystifying the fucking obvious with Belfast was a result of a packing mishap).

So that's the questions about the crew members - crew members were definitely involved - one of those crew members was almost certainly Mark Littlewood. There are other things we can guess, but not a lot that we're sure about. The other side of the question is - were 1D members involved with the bears?

I'm interested in what you mean about references to closeting/management control. I don't think I understood any of the references in that way.

There were some direct references to Harry and Louis on twitter, both their birthdays were acknowledged (no other 1D members' were). In addition, the 'home/soon to return' comments seemed to reflect one of their travel (I want to say Louis, but it was a long time ago). In addition, you have the 'Love Larry' picture in London. The other tableau references I'm less certain of than I was - but the skateboard and the banana did seem very suggestive to me at the time and there's also the blue and green smiley faces.

To me it was this representation of Louis and Harry (as opposed to the fact that things cost money) that made it most likely that they were some way involved. It seems very unlikely that someone would be able to represent their bosses in a very public and noticed way and that seems to contradict the stories they're telling about themselves for the best part of a year. Particularly when you're in this weird little touring bubble with a couple of hundred people in it.

Do I still think that? Mostly. But the one thing that has become more clear to me over time was how chaotic 1D touring was towards the end and how much everyone was limping towards the finish line - and that does mean that I'm less certain than I was.

That to me is really interesting if you assume that Mark Littlewood ended up with at least RBB

********** OK one final point and that's your friend's question. But to me that opens up a whole other question. How restrictive was Harry and Louis' closet in 2015? (or perhaps more usefully is 'restrictive' a useful scale to understand these things under).

I think I would say there were three key phases to Harry and Louis closet while in 1D. There was the 'this is all really funny/nobody has any idea what the internet will do to filmed footage/homophobia means nobody will take this seriously' stage, 2010-April 2012 (with the combination of breaking America and Wellington). Then there's the 'We cannot control this and everything seems to make it bigger, this seems to resemble a myth or legend', May 2012-October 2013 (marked by the point that Harry more or less stopped interacting on stage with other 1D members). I think you could call October 2013 on 'a new equilibrium'. There's also an argument that things began falling apart from about February 2015 - but how much that was about their closet and how much about the band in general it's hard to tell.

I tend to think that by 2015, their closet wasn't so much restrictive as (with most parts of 1D) 'lets get this to the finish line'. I suspect that a lot of what Louis and Harry weren't doing (interacting on stage, being too obviously together outside of work) was about it being easier that way. It was easier not to interact than try and interact platonically and have people make videos of it anyway. Whatever their thoughts about their future were, when it was decided to go on hiatus that obviously also involved a decision that Harry and Louis weren't going to come out while 1D. I don't really see any contradiction between not wanting to be outted and wanting to express themselves - indeed I see that as pretty core to a closeted celebrity experience.

#This is obviously counter to a lot of understanding at the time #and the idea of 'a big gay war'#but the premises people were understanding things through #just don't hold up #so I do through the question out there #how do you understand their closets now?#(Obviously there's a n elephant in the room #that I'm obviously not addressing #because we don't know what was going on #but with or without that #how do you make sense of it all?)#For example #here's another idea that I'll throw out #I suspect that Louis being more public partying in 2015 #might have been about him no longer pretending to be in a relationship with Eleanor #So he'd previously had to hide his partying as part of performing heterosexuality

All your posts are super interesting. I have to ask and I don’t want you to think I’m rude. You know your stuff for sure. There’s a ton of coded clothing and secret messaging going on with Louis in your mind. It does track. But Who is planning all this? This takes thought. Effort. Remembering. Isn’t it possible Louis likes Lacoste and he’s lazy and repeats outfits when he doesn’t have a stylist? Or do you think it’s been planned for ages? why would he communicate with fans? I’m not saying you are wrong, it seems like a reach. I hope you are right 🤞🏻

Oof, yeah I totally see your point. If I’m being honest, before I dove deep into babygate and especially the clothes signalling, I didn’t think he signalled as much, but after I was actually a little frightened at the extent it seems to go, like especially recently it seems almost every single piece he wears has a meaning.

Like, with Lacoste… he really hasn’t worn Lacoste at all, and simultaneously with the rise of the term “baby gator” he started wearing it, and usually only in context with babies. I mean, could totally be that it’s all a big coincidence, but does the universe really hate Louis this much that he accumulates all the coincidences?

And about the effort… it does take some effort, definitely, but I’ve noticed the more I’m in tune with this type of language, the easier it is to do it. Like, with his recent Helmut Lang shirt he wore - I tried it myself, simply typing in “HL luxury T Shirt 2022” and it was literally the first one that didn’t look trashy and was somewhat his style, didn’t even have to scroll for long.

And especially with tour dates, it’s easy to plan. I created my Google calendar, and it’s incredibly resourceful, it helps to keep track of events etc, I’m sure they have something similar (if I can do it with less money, they can 100% do it). And as soon as you’ve built a rhythm and somewhat of a base closer it’s easy to choose. Don’t forget Louis travels a lot, there’s a lot of waiting and sitting around involved. If he’s not playing fifa, he does have time on his hands for those projects (cough RBB&SBB cough)

And Harry, for example, has stunt gear - the blue bandana that we all know to reassure he’s still wearing his day collar as devotion to Louis (lol) the blue cap to say “cap” (its all lies) or his easily recognisable outfit to make sure he’s seen. They do plan it. So yeah. I swear, I get it, if you didn’t do a deep dive it sounds absolutely ludicrous, that they put so much time and effort into it, but it’s what I believe and just what makes sense in the bigger picture!

Even though you don't deserve an answer because you're being an obnoxious piece of shit, I will still write one for other people who might actually be open to hearing the difference between the two fandoms.

Let me start by saying that I was never in the Dan and Phil fandom. So all I can do is address the issue from an outsider's POV. From what I know, neither of them ever signaled that they wanted people to know their sexuality, neither of them ever signaled that they were being closeted despite wanting to be openly out, neither of them ever signaled that they wanted people to know that they were together, neither of them ever signaled that they were perfectly comfortable with their sexuality, neither of them had friends/family constantly "outing" them in a joking way.... the list goes on and on.

I'm here because both Harry and Louis have done all of these things and more. I'm here because they've shown that they appreciate and want the support of their queer fans and continue to invite speculation even after being made to deny their relationship. Harry and Louis orchestrated RBB and SBB. They're the ones who wear coded clothing and rainbows and pushed us to learn LGBTQ+ history. They're the ones who post lyrics and write songs that clearly reference their struggle to be free. They're the ones pointing at and acknowledging Larry signs at concerts. They're the ones using blue and green lighting and referencing the other's tattoos and making videos that reference each other and writing songs that tell the same stories from different points of view and insisting that they have a certain shade of blue in every outfit. Why would they continue to do this if they didn't want people to speculate? Seriously. Why?

Has the fact that larries exist made their lives more difficult at times? Probably, yes. I'm sure Syco/Sony hate the fact that we won't go away. But does that mean they want every one of their fans to just pretend we don't see them signaling and to just buy into the narratives? No. I don't think they do. I honestly can't imagine how awful that would feel to them. I'm not fucking here for my health or for shits and giggles. I get nothing but grief for being a larrie. I'm here because I feel like homophobic assholes out there need to know that there are people who will love and support Harry and Louis regardless of their sexuality/gender/relationship status. I think there's a place for those of us to support them and to talk about supporting them, and most of us are doing it in a way where if you see us talking about it, you've come looking for it. So maybe people like you should stop hate reading (and circumventing the fact that you've likely been blocked a hundred times over), and instead try combating the disgusting homophobia that results in artists feeling they have to stay closeted. I know telling larries to die is a whole lot easier to do, and makes you think you're some kind of super fan, but I can guarantee you which of us Harry and Louis prefer to have supporting them (hint: it's not you).

I'm sorry that Dan felt their fans were being invasive. And I don't see his and Phil's situation being the same as Harry and Louis'.

Poking Boobear into fighting tooth & nails to take control of 1D’s music from Midnight Memories onwards? After Haylor? Poking RBB/SBB with stunts like babygate? ‘Til her claws come out also sounds like Taylor Kloss come out. Taylor Kloss & Karlie Swift? Mama bear? Guardian angel? The same Taylor who wrote in her reputation prologue letter: as if the inspiration for music is as simple and basic as a paternity test.

And you find something to wrap your noose around

That something = holding somebody they love hostage. For H, it’s Lou’s Babygate. For Tay, it’s Karlie’s marriage to Kushner. Both effectively arrived with major character assassinations for Louis & Karlie. But now that Louis is out of major label’s clutch, Harry’s reputation seems to be going downhill very fast among his own fan base. Holivia = absolute train wreck. Wonder why. 🧐

And there's nothing like a mad woman.

No one would argue that Taylor was channeling a Mad Woman energy in her Blank Space MV. Also in her reputation era. During which Karlie got married to Kushner twice.(I got a list of names and yours is in RED underlined. I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!)

Of course, a woman isn’t defined by having long hair and being clean shaven. I just find it quite interesting that H did that (& looked like a princess/queen thb) when L’s name was getting dragged through mud. And now? With H’s reputation going downhill among his own fan base? Louis’s long lock & babie face are coming back stronger than the 90s trend.

Now I breathe flames each time I talk.

This reminds me of Long Live: I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you. So they’re fighting fire with fire/fighting lies with lies/fighting gay rumors with more gay rumors/fighting hetero narratives with hetero narratives? Holivia being too obvious as a stunt intentionally? For every lie I tell them they tell me three?

Also, cue H saying things like “I have a secret” + “not that important” + recently talking through his outfits, scathingly. Kinda feel like Tay’s reputation prologue letter, really.

All of H’s PR stunts involved a yacht ever since Haylor. Though, H never badmouthed any of his PR girlfriends, including Taylor. why? Well, because he wants to treat people with kindness. Also?

The soft electric hum of the screen was broken by the sound of confident, sure-fingered typing. Long lines of code dictating a new reality flashed on the screen.

“Just a bit more...” the coder muttered, eyes trained tightly on the screen, not blinking, not risking even one stray keystroke that might foil the plan.

Line after line of gibberish to most went by, only those well-versed in programming would have the slightest inkling. And when it was done, no one would be the wiser. It would be as if it always had been.

It was time.

Finally.

No more shadows, no more being forced to be a lackey. Never again shoved into another person’s story only to fade out when the role was complete. No more wondering, curiosity, about what it was like.

It was time for a new story. A proper story.

A strong, definitive, and proud tale. The new reality and possibilities punctuated by the final keystroke. The code showed on screen for only a few seconds more before fading, becoming not just lines of data but the new truth.

The code was the first step. Its completion sent out the notice to all artists, all writers. Coding alone would not complete the new existence. But they could help bring this change. Where there would be no more half-truths, no more lies to protect. No more hidden secrets. Most importantly, no more maid outfits.

No more Vanderwood.

LOL even if you don’t believe Louis was behind SBB/RBB, even if you believe he wore the rainbow Apple by mistake, even if you think the rainbow shirt he wore to rep Rainbow Direction that one night was a coincidence, even if you think every single xfactor outfit he wore just had FUN WORDS on them, the hard cold fact remains he did a POLARI PHOTO SHOOT like the man did a whole ass spread labeled with the name of a gay code language, I think he speaks through his clothes.

Moonlight Masquerade

Another piece for the @mysme-rbb! This one is a pinch writing for Kit! Her Instagram is lil-kitkat18. This is her gorgeous art; give her post some love!!

This fic uses Kit’s cmc, also named Kit :)

It was a quiet Saturday night. The streets are empty, and the house is still. No sound could be heard from the Kim residence. Well, except for the yelling coming from Yoosung's room.

"Quick! Go left! I'll take him on the right!"

Yoosung is gaming far too late into the night—or morning rather—for a college student. He said he was going to play games less so that he could focus on college, but old habits die hard. Once again, he is lost in the LoLoL world at 3 A.M.

“I should go check on him,” Kit thought, “He probably lost track of time again.” She went down the hall and stood next to Yoosung’s closed door. More yells of gaming directions for his team were heard, before a victorious cheer rang through the hall.

“We won! Great game guys. It was fun playing this limited time masquerade party map!” Yoosung congratulated his online friends and looked at the clock on his computer monitor, sighing. “Ugh it’s 3:05 and I have school stuff to work on tomorrow. I should probably log off. Goodnight!” He turned the computer off and set his headset on the desk, just as Kit opened the door.

Yoosung spun around on his chair, looking at the woman he loves—more than the world and all of the video games in it. “Kit! Why are you still up? How’s my honey doing?”

Kit walked over and pressed a soft kiss to his forehead while murmuring, “I was coming to check on you, silly. You’re up way too late again.” She took his hands in hers and pulled him out of the chair. “I want to make sure you’re staying healthy.”

“I’ll be alright, but I appreciate your care, my sweet little Kit Kat.” Yoosung pulled Kit into a hug, immediately relaxing into her arms.

“Did you have fun playing?”

“Yes! There was a limited time only map that had a masquerade theme, and all of the player skins had customizable party outfits. It was so cool.” Yoosung’s face lit up as he explained the game, making Kit smile. His excitement always made her heart flutter. “I had a crown with diamonds in it and a soft velvet cape! All of my loot that I got had a fancy and royal look to it too!” Yoosung continued to gush about his night of gaming, and Kit was hooked onto every word he said.

It was 3:27 A.M. Yoosung had finished explaining all of the details about the special LoLoL event, and now he felt rather dejected, wishing that the game could last all night.

“Yoosungie, are you okay? You look a little sad,” Kit took his hand and squeezed it gently, trying to comfort him. “Did something happen in LoLoL that upset you?”

“No no, I’m okay. I just wish that I could keep playing or something. The masquerade theme is so fun…” He trailed off, not quite sure how to explain how he felt. He looked over to Kit, smiling a little once the two made eye contact.

“Do you like masquerade parties?” Kit questioned, trying to help Yoosung figure out what he was trying to say.

“Yeah it seems like it would be really cool to go to a party of something that had a masquerade theme. It would be fun to dress up and dance.”

“You know, we don’t have to dress up and go to a fancy party to dance.” Kit stood up, holding out her hand to Yoosung. “It would be much more relaxing to dance at home with just the two of us here.”

Yoosung jumped up, his excitement returning, and he ran to his desk to get a bluetooth speaker and his phone. “We could listen to orchestra music like we would at a fancy party! And wear fancy clothes!”

Kit hugged Yoosung from behind as he searched for a song to play, placing her chin onto his shoulder. “It’s so late. I don’t really want to change out of my pajamas.” She nuzzled against his face, enjoying his warmth. “I would love to dance with you though. Shall we?”

Yoosung turned to face her and kissed her cheek with a small giggle. “I would love to honey. There’s not much space in here though. I think we should go to the living room.”

They went to the living room, holding hands as they walked. Yoosung turned the lights on, but Kit immediately turned them off.

“What are you doing Kit? It’s dark in here.”

“You’ll see,” Kit said with a smile. She opened the curtains, allowing moonlight to fill the room. She took Yoosung’s hands in hers and whispered, “Isn’t this soft moonlight better? It’s just like a fantasy world now.”

Placing her hands on Yoosung’s waist, she started to sway side to side. Yoosung followed her lead, and the two of them got lost in the music.

Back and forth across the room, the pair slowly waltzed, holding onto each other like they were the only two parts of the world that were real. Everything about the day that was on their minds was gone; their new fantasy of a grand party was the only thing that mattered.

“This feels like a dream,” Yoosung murmured, holding onto Kit a little tighter. “I know we’re at home in pajamas, but I can see us in the middle of a grand ballroom.”

“It really does.” Kit hummed softly with the music, leaning against Yoosung’s chest as they danced. “I love you.”

Kit looked up at Yoosung, happiness filling her heart. Her face held pure adoration as she watched her boyfriend smile softly as he danced.

Yoosung kissed the top of her head, feeling overjoyed that he gets to be in Kit’s arms. “I love you too, Kit. Thank you for tonight, it was wonderful.”

Season 3 gives Rachel 192 new looks. She has the most outfit changes in Michael and Goodbye with 14 outfits each. While Pot O Gold and Nationals are tied for the least amount of outfits, with a mere 3 each. This is also the fewest outfits featured in any episode overall

While Rachel's style matures this season, it also gets a lot more samey. Gone are her animal sweaters, and gone is the variety in her silhouette. These days, dresses are her best friend.

Though she's never been a big fan of pants, that article of clothing is all but eliminated from her wardrobe this season. She's gone from 23 in season one, to 16 in season two, to 11 in season three. And the majority of those are either workout clothes, or pajamas. She also wears a pair for a coordinated group number (something else that is lacking in s3), and a pair as part of her Saturday Night Fever suit. Her only real pants outfit features a pair of shorts - soon to be a staple of Rachel's wardrobe - seen at the very end of the season

Pants weren't the only thing Rachel decided were restricting her legs too much this year. Knee high socks and tights' stocks plummeted this year thanks to Rachel leaving her legs bare more often than not. But of course these signature accessories haven't vanished completely. This season, Rachel sported...

25 pairs of knee socks. Okay, still a lot, but we've cut back from s1's 38 pairs

18 pairs of tights. Again, sounds like a lot, but compared to last season's 45 count...

13 pairs of ankle socks. She was trying something new but must've decided they weren't for her, as they don't appear after the halfway point of the season

As for accessories that have all but been wiped out, the headband fans were starving this season

We see Rachel sporting headband a pitiful 6 times - and one of them was Tina as Rachel! She wears two stretchy headbands to hold her hair back, once during dodgeball and once while in the shower. Then all the girls wear headbands in 3x14's competition. The only real headbands we see her wear are both in 3x22. An homage to her fashion roots, before she can branch out and find new styles

The 2011-2012 school year was a real "Say Something" Hat Year for McKinley, and Rachel was no exception. In addition to her headbands, she also wore 9 hats, along with flowers, bows, blue streaks, a welder's mask, and several other fun accessories for a total of 25 head based accessories

Most memorable of all? A wedding veil, a prom queen tiara, and a graduation cap. Landmark accessories, all of them.

And the final lost staple of Rachel's old wardrobe? Plaid skirts. She only wore two this season. But plaid made an appearance a total of 9 times, popping up in her outerwear and dresses more often. She also featured hearts a handful of times, and even a few florals this season

But the patterns that featured most in her wardrobe this season?

Stripes, which appeared 21 times, and...

Polka dots! Which appeared 24 times.

Rachel's wardrobe also featured 26 costumes this season, including matching group number outfits, themed looks, and all her potential Maria outfits

And of course it wouldn't be an outfit review if we didn't quantify the colors of her wonderful wardrobe. Have to appreciate them now because New York definitely bleaches out her rainbow a little. But for now...

Rachel rocked every color under the sun this season, but some much more than others. While some people, like myself, might associate her strongly with the color pink, that didn't even crack the top 5 this season

Honorable mentions this season are grey and pink, featured heavily in 16 and 17 outfits, respectively

Fifth place with 20 looks is Navy

Fourth place with 23 looks is Blue

Third place with 30 looks is Red

This was a collab with _digitxl_ on Instagram who drew an awesome piece to go with this story! It was great working with her and she's an amazing artist! Check out her piece here!

This was a challenge for me to write and really outside of my comfort zone but I'm glad I did it and I definitely had fun with it! I have a lot of love for Saeyoung, so I hope I managed to portray his character well while carrying through some themes from the Secret Endings. Enjoy! Rays of warm sunlight shone down, reflecting in the glassy metal of the car. The engine revved as the vehicle sped across the streets, echoes of cheerful conversation and laughter dancing on the gust of wind left in its wake. The windows were opened as they raced toward their destination, letting in a swift breeze that whipped the girl’s long hair.

Mirae closed her eyes and smiled into the sunshine, enjoying the moment; the steady rhythm of the car, the warmth on her face, the air racing past her ears and the voice of the man sitting beside her. His warm, ringing chuckles were bright and alive, and the sound wrapped her heart in a warm, loving embrace.

His laughter spoke of a pure, genuine happiness that he used to think he didn't deserve and would never feel. Hearing it every day made her soul sing.

Saeyoung glanced over to the side and back at the road. His smile widened into a fond expression as he noticed her quietly relishing the sun's gentle caressing.

‘You know, you’re so tiny, one of these days I’m going to lose you in a crowd. It’s simply inevitable,’ Saeyoung teased, looping an arm over Mirae’s shoulders.

The girl rolled her eyes, but was used to her boyfriend poking fun at her lack in height and took no offence at this comment.

‘Hey, it’s not my fault I’m short,’ she giggled.

Though she enjoyed the feeling, she slowly removed his arm and opted to link his hand with hers instead, so they were able to walk more comfortably past the bustling storefronts.

It was a lovely day. Saeran had headed out with Achlys to take a walk and make the most of the weather. The two remaining members of the Choi household planned to meet up with them later on to get ice cream and give them a lift home, and the pair decided that they may as well make a day of it. It was so nice outside, after all.

Needless to say, they would likely make several short detours before actually making it to shop for clothes, as they intended.

Mirae abruptly came to a stop and Saeyoung noticed a more focused and curious expression on her face, which soon evolved into an excited one.

Something of interest must have caught her eye, he thought to himself, following her gaze to a cosy-looking bookstore on the street corner. He was right, and she was now promptly tugging his sleeve towards the shop's front entrance.

'Look!' she happily declared once inside, picking up a volume from the shelf that she had somehow spied from the window. 'I've been wanting to read this for a while now.'

She handled the book with care, turning it over in her small hands and skimming the blurb before turning to the first page.

Saeyoung watched her eyes run along the paper, that intrigued, excited glimmer in her eyes.

At times, the realness of the most mundane moments hit him all at once, catching him off guard and fervently squeezing his insides.

This was one of those moments.

The noise of the other customers in the shop seemed to fade into the background as he followed Mirae to the counter. His senses seemed to hyper-focus on her presence; her soft voice as she thanked the cashier, her hands as she took the book, her smile, the starry look in her eyes.

How could an instance so ordinary be so mesmerising? How could it make him so inexplicably and immensely happy?

'Saeyoung?'

Oh, she'd noticed him uncharacteristically quiet. She tends to notice things like that.

Placing the shopping bag over her shoulder, she gently took his hand in one of her own.

This was real. She was right here, with him, and it wasn't a dream or illusion.

He often found himself unable to shake the fear that this happiness would all eventually disappear one day, beautiful but fleeting, like a brilliant flame being snuffed out as quickly as it ignited. Brief, like the bittersweet dance of cherry blossoms on the fickle wind, withering away mere days after the prime of their bloom.

Maybe it was because he still believed he didn't deserve that happiness, no matter how much Mirae assured him that he did. He was afraid, so afraid, that he would lose her. Or that he would lose Saeran once again, his other half, whom he fought so hard to save.

But… the normality of the precious moments they spent together, convinced him that maybe, just maybe, he really could live a normal life and just enjoy the time he had with them both.

The warmth and firmness of her grip, a promise that she would continue to be by his side, almost like a star — constant and unwavering, but never burning out. In the pressing darkness of space that had been his world and that he had been fighting with an artificial torchlight of his own invention, he had found her. Shining through the void but not twinkling. Always present and bright.

He knew she couldn't always be so bright, but as he drew closer he began reflecting her light, and soon he himself was glowing. Maybe he always had been, but she made him feel like he'd never been brighter.

Her light wasn't blinding like the light he'd been shown in his younger years, but warm and comfortable. He knew he would cherish it forever.

He just hadn’t expected to be able to keep it. And now he never wanted to let go.

Between them, they had enough light for the darkest of days, and plenty to share. When he laughed, it felt more sincere than it ever had. There were no more fake smiles, and the darkness receded a little each day. He finally had his brother with him again, not to mention his friends, and her. Things weren’t always perfect, but they were getting better. At last, he felt whole.

The main purpose of their shopping trip had devolved into the pair dissolving into quiet fits of giggles at every price tag involving the numbers 6 and 9 consecutively. Each lame or immature joke earned an eye roll from Saeran.

Besides Mirae’s book, the couple’s purchases of that day consisted of matching socks, matching piercings, a palette of makeup that Saeyoung had convinced her to try with him on a promise that he’d take care of applying it, a bag of glow-in-the-dark worms on strings (‘just because’), a cowboy hat each (plus a third which Saeyoung was determined to get his younger brother to wear with them) and probably more stationery than either of them needed because Mirae did not have the self-control to leave that shop without getting something and he found her animated reaction irresistibly adorable (and those cat and spaced themed notebooks and stickers were very cute).

They’d spent some time just walking around, looking at clothes, joking around. Every so often Saeyoung would pick out an item from a railing or shelf that he thought would suit his fiance. They’d taken to trying on different outfits and sporting them in front of the store’s mirrors.

'How can you pull everything off so well?'

'It's a gift, I know,' he playfully replied.

Saeyoung the optimist had hidden in the shadows of his soul for so long, but now he was dancing in the sunshine, the rain and the starlight with her.

sooah never heard of the term nightcrawlers before, of if she did, that never registered in her head. from the research that she did before going to the gig even though she wouldn't have a lot of saying in the matter of doing it or not, she found that this style is supposed to mean: way from the gaze of the workaday world, they churn to sensory blasts of moby, aphex twin, thrill kill kult--a techno/tribal assault that pulsates nonstop until morning. proudly synthetic, nightcrawler clothes proclaim a new age, one of the clingy micro-mini skirts, chest-baring tanks, and shoes with attitude. and that alone was already very scary, but she keeps an open mind and is surprised by it.

sooah is a very boring young adult if she stops to think about it and decides that it bothers her. it doesn’t because she genuinely likes the way that she handles her personal and professional life, and she was never someone who liked to go out anyway. but upon being presented with something like photoshoots concepts that she had very little knowledge of, sooah concluded that she should, at the very least, be more interested in things that are out of her comfort zone.

nightcrawlers sounds like something coming out of a horror movie that has monsters hiding under the bed to grab children’s foot, and after some research, sooah doesn’t change her mind a whole lot.

it’s very different from everything that sooah has ever done for a photoshoot as far as she can remember, and it’s the farthest she has ever been to her style. sooah doesn’t separate herself from her stage persona. lila still is a lot like herself, so this whole thing was still a little weird, even though she should be used to jumping from concept to concept given that this is her sixth year with equinox. there’s a reason why she likes one of these nights betters than rbb, and nightcrawlers leaned a lot more towards the latter than the former.

sooah is not someone others would call a pessimist, but she went to this gig thinking she would be very uncomfortable, but it was surprisingly fun. not only because she’s doing it with her groupmates and working in a group has always helped her to be in a better mood, but also because, overall, it’s a fun concept. and she doesn’t even have to be an all-nighter to know that.

the lights aren’t welcoming, but they are bright and colorful, the outfits aren’t all so bad if she compared them to what she had seen online and what her mind had conjured to fill up the gaps of her imagination. this wasn’t at all as bad as she had expected, and even though she had her reasons to doubt the success of this working out, sooah was glad to be proved wrong.

she’s getting dressed for what she assumes is her last take of pictures when a conversation she had with sunghyun, her brother, the last time they saw each other, pops into her head. “you’re young, and you’re very creative too, but you have to remember that every once in a while, you’ll have to try out new things, rascal. let yourself be adventurous and bold for once. you won’t ever have your early twenties back, so enjoy it.”

here is my take on the ppg and rbb’s style:

blossom: preppy style obviously, but leans a bit towards cottagecore from time to time. she feels the need to show how smart and serious she is through her clothes during work related or school times but trades it for flowy vintage dresses on summer time

bubbles: her style fluctuates a lot obviously esp since she’s a trend setter but rn she’s into y2k style. she likes skirts and dresses over pants but oh god is she into the whole big pants little shirt thing?? or little shirt little skirt and a big jacket that’s just a big yes!!

buttercup: she didn’t rlly care about style until she started learning abt punk culture and just emerged herself into it! leather jackets, lots of black and patches, old clothes (poor professor doesn’t have any of his teen years clothes anymore) turned new, and paint all over everything! she does lace coding too, and it’s usually either yellow or pink

brick: never gave a shit and never will, takes first thing he sees and hasn’t bought new clothes in YEARS. he just needs his cap and he’s good to go

boomer: ALT KING! skater boy 100%, wears skirts outside sometimes but always to sleep, band tees are an essential, baggy pants???? yessir! has tried emo, punk, goth, hippie and is now in a kinda indie fase. boomer is easily the most stylish out of the rbb

butch: does whatever is successful among the ladies honestly :// rn he’s an eboy and cuz it’s eDgY and cOol but doesn’t rlly know how to dress, he just watched like 2 vids of how to be an eboy and uses the same outfits every week, just with more or less chains depending on his mood

Anyway this is the post where I make the obnoxiously long notes I didn't want to put in my actual Winx red velvet post

Princesses

My general rule is two or 1/3, whichever is higher

I chose Joy & Irene because Irene has the general aura of a secluded but dedicated princess who has a serious demeanor but is beloved by the public and would do anything for her people, and Joy literally dressed up like a princess for her "wedding" in We Got Married

Go ahead and pretend she has a perfectly arranged marriage with Sungjae if you're feeling it

Realms!

Cuisine: food comes up a LOT in RV music videos. I think it's easier to name the ones that don't show food on screen than the ones that do. Most of their big hits revolve around fruit or dessert. I gave this to Irene because she likes to cook for the other members, and because of the scene in Cookie Jar where she's in charge of the cannibalism cauldron.

Nature: again, the fruit. Also Happiness goes heavy on the flower imagery. I gave this to Seulgi because the one shot in Happiness that always stays with me is of her lying in the field with flowers in her hair.

Summer: queens of summer bops! Need I say more! Joy eats every summer concept up like candy, so obviously this had to be hers.

Music: this was always meant to be Wendy's. I'm strict with dealing out this particular power set, but my girl has the best vocals of 3rd gen, plays like eleven instruments, and wouldn't let go of her mic even after falling two meters and being knocked unconscious.

Tides: water shows up a couple times in a couple mvs, but most prominently in One Of These Nights. The shot I always remember is of Yeri being rained on in her little boat, so I gave this to her.

Designs

I'm only doing color coding for groups that have actual color coding, but red velvet also has a color in their name so I decided to do red and black for the witch color scheme since it would look good and then use their actual color coding for the fairy outfits, since it's a brighter & more cheery color palette

I knew for the witch outfits I wanted to get joy in her rainbow dress, but I actually don't really like anyone else's outfits in that scene nearly as much, so I went with the MAMA 2017 performance, since it's essentially the same dress but in red. Wendy's dress is slightly inspired by another award show performance they did that year, but the shape and the sheer long sleeves underneath were essentially the same.

I went back and forth between using red flavor or umpah umpah as the fairy outfits, but in the end the silhouettes for umpah umpah were too similar so red flavor won. I was surprised that Yeri and Wendy don't actually wear their music video outfits while performing, so I had to play the mv frame by frame and even check the official photos to get an idea of how they looked, and even then I think I got Yeri's shirt wrong. But I like my design!

I mixed it up with the hair colors and styles; the red flavor hair colors were very distinct, and all looked good on them, but I didn't want all of them to have long hair. (I also hate bangs on irene; rip)

Irene got her beautiful blow out from RBB, and a curly ponytail since the stylists love putting her in those even if I think it looks bad. I wanted to keep her little headband from Red flavor and while I love her gorgeous gorgeous rbb waves, I couldn't figure out how to put a headband in without making her look like Hermione.

Seulgi's hairstyle is pretty consistent, so that was easy. Long with bangs. No need to mess with a classic.

I debated on Wendy, but in the end went with her new haircut since I think it looks very distict. I also went with the peekaboo blonde-brunette instead of the medium brown she has in red flavor. It's a good color, and I had the perfect pencil for it.

Joy's red flavor hair is perfect, it is known, but I also wanted to keep her hair from peekaboo with her witch dress. Something they did with her hair that era made her so... so... you know what I mean.

Yeri I loved with her short hair in peekaboo. (I love the styling this era; sue me!) I was going to put her fairy hair up in her cute bun from Bad Boy, but I forgot! Rip.

Psycho is SOTY (and here’s why)

So, Psycho has finally dropped. And WOW, it has really taken the world by storm in less than 10 hours. And personally, I must say that Psycho is maybe my favorite Red Velvet title track of all time, and probably the best release of 2019 (a week before the year ends, Red Velvet really did THAT). I still tear up at certain points in the MV and I’ve watched it about 10 times by now. So I wanted to talk about all of the amazing things that Psycho has brought us

1. Velvet Comeback - Reveluvs have been dying for a solid velvet track for months, as soon as news dropped that the finale album would be a velvet one, everyone promptly freaked out. Now that the song is out, I can decidedly say that it didn’t just meet expectations, it changed the game for what we expect from Red Velvet. Since Bad Boy came out, plenty of people have said that Red Velvet peaked and that they would never do better than Bad Boy. Well, Psycho says hello and promptly proves all of the haters wrong. Psycho may just be Red Velvet’s best velvet track, and it was 100% worth the wait

2. The Sound - One of my favorite things about Red Velvet’s title tracks is their bold and unique sounds. Psycho had already established an interesting sound with its teasers; the strumming instrumentals with the whispered “Psycho” set a precedent for a creepy and smooth sounding track, something further established by the final Psycho teaser with Seulgi and Wendy’s beautiful high notes. And now that the song has come out, I can say that the sound is even better than I imagined. I absolutely love the synth and clapping in the verses in combination with the bass and other random synthetic sounds mixed in, they create such a striking and unique vibe for the song. I generally adore the instrumentals for this song, the really heavy use of synth sounds feels like it shouldn’t work for the song but it JUST DOES. I think one of my favorite parts of the song is the bridge, the change in feeling for Joy’s part of the bridge and then the build-up on Seulgi’s line is so pleasing and leads BEAUTIFULLY into the final chorus. And the “Hey now we’ll be okay” hook is so good, it’s catchy and bold but not overused. Psycho is just a perfect song, I can’t describe it any other way.

3. The Concept/Music Video - God, I ADORE this concept and music video. This is easily my favorite music video since Bad Boy, I might even prefer it to Bad Boy’s music video. I seriously think this is the perfect music video. The aesthetic is so incredibly pleasing, the set is absolutely gorgeous, it’s intricate and gorgeous and its sense of scale never feels too large or too small. The camera work is beautiful as well, every member gets a good amount of screen time (even if they don’t get a lot of lines :/ ) and every member looks seriously stunning. There’s some CGI in this video but it’s incredibly subtle and only adds to the aesthetic and look of the video. The concept of this music video is also amazing, I could go into a whole tangent about my interpretation of the music video and its story, but that’s a rant for another time. The concept is so beautifully strange and abstract, and the overall mood of this music video and the song as a whole is just so beautifully crafted.

4. The styling - This is the first time I can say that I genuinely ADORE the styling for a Red Velvet comeback since Bad Boy (I also loved RBB’s styling but most people didn’t and that song still had some styling flops). Every member looks gorgeous, these outfits are so delicate and intricate and beautiful. The use of lace and glitter adds so much to these outfits, they feel expensive and classy in the best way possible. I also really love the hair in this comeback, everyone’s hair color in this MV really suits them, the blonde on Wendy and reddish-brown on Yeri are especially gorgeous and I really love the green streaks in Seulgi’s hair as well. But I honestly think that my favorite part of the styling for this comeback is actually the makeup, I’m just so obsessed with the makeup looks in this music video. I’m an absolute sucker for darker, heavy makeup and it works especially well for this song, I LOVE that every member has really dark lipstick and the eye looks are drop-dead gorgeous as well, Irene, in particular, has some beautiful eye looks (the gold eyeshadow from the beginning and the silver eyeliner when she has her ponytail are especially stunning) but I really just genuinely adore the makeup on every member, it’s so striking and beautiful.

5. The vocals - Red Velvet always has gorgeous vocals, that’s just a staple of the group at this point. But I especially love the vocals in this song, they are bold and impressive in a really subtle and beautiful way. Seulgi and Wendy’s vocals really shine in this track, their high notes are absolutely gorgeous and light and they suit the song so very well. I really love the rap section in this song too, Red Velvet’s rap has never been particularly intense and that works beautifully in their favor for this track. I can’t say much for vocals here, because we all know they’re amazing, but I’ll just say that the vocals are restrained in a wonderful and beautiful way.

I could keep going. I probably will keep going, once the live stages drop (god I'm so excited). All I can say now though is that I am obsessed with Psycho, and it is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever heard from Red Velvet. I was holding back tears the first 4 or 5 times I watched this music video. 2019 has been a really difficult year for me, personally. So hearing the line, “Hey we’ll be okay” in this song meant everything. This song is everything I could have asked for, I’m so in love with it. I’m so thankful for this release and I can’t wait to keep getting more content for it. Stream Psycho and stan Red Velvet, THE best idol group alive.
