The site's branded this rollout as "Tumblr your way." If that's what they're aiming for, they've done a sloppy job of it. Here's some simple suggestions which would make me use the other options, and keep me scrolling longer.

User-curated dashboards. The post could end here, really. These are a thing almost everywhere in some form or another, but among the big competitors, Instagram has Favourites and Twitter has Lists—Tumblr is perfect for the latter system. Allow me to pick out all my social mutuals and make a dash out of them. Let me do the same for art blogs. Hell, let me do the same with blogs I don't follow—I know I manually check a lot of blogs who I choose not to follow for whatever reason—let me make miscellaneous extra dashes. The functionality and the layout are here on desktop and mobile, and they're good! Searching/adding/removing users to various groups is already implemented across a dozen other features. Let me do it here.

Tags. I follow dozens, and browse them manually. I don't want to browse them all at once. Given how busy many tags can get, you could keep tag dashboards algorithmically-curated, rather than chronological, and very few would complain. Allow us to curate "tag groups." You could even let us make them public, like Multireddits or Twitter Lists, if you want to make a exploratory social feature out of it. If it's not too much effort, I'd even like to put some favorite tags in the same dashboards wherein I'd put artists, mutuals, and other such self-curated groupings.

Not pictured, but not important: the "blog subscriptions" dash. I understand the logic behind it: by making the only extra dashboard users can curate tied directly to push notifications, you're going to have many more users using blog notifications, and with it, some more app openings per day. Personally, if I added together all the blogs I want to check with priority, my phone would be blowing up far too much for comfort. I would like to keep notifications from people I follow, so I refrain from using the feature at all. There are better ways about this: decouple subscriptions, or "favorites," and push notifications. This would also allow the site to scrape much more data on what kinds of blogs people value seeing the most, which I feel would be of worth. At the very least, it could go a long way in informing the For You algorithm.

Drop "Favs" and "What you missed". Most of my "crushes" on any given day are blogs in my periphery I've chosen not to follow, and (in my experience) the missed posts tab doesn't work at all, even after long days of not opening the app. An ideal "what you missed" would function as essentially just an algorithmically-curated sample of the chronological dash, anyway—not necessary.

The single most valuable base dashboard currently missing is one which includes posts from mutual follows only. I understand this was likely deliberate, but people on this site—and elsewhere!—love the culture around mutuals. I understand some may fear this would cause issues for retention if it became the most-used dashboard—but I'm confident it wouldn't. People come to Tumblr—and elsewhere!—for artists, Personalities, and all other types of Content Creators. These impersonal connections matter just as much. By its nature, this platform repels insularity. Your users will always look for something to Scroll on outside their immediate friends.

As is, Tumblr lacks the necessary quality of life features to draw in full social groups from other platforms, and many adopters need their friends to stay to sustain their own use. People who love to blog and love to browse tags are already here, and they're a solid chunk of the user base. The easiest thing Tumblr could do to draw in more users from Twitter and other sites is by making the site as convenient as possible to use—these dashboards may not be as instantly intuitive or functional as an algorithmic one, but they're options you do some simple set-up for once and benefit from for life. I've personally only used Twitter through Lists for almost a year now—you'll find this is increasingly common behaviour. If you want people to move, you need to help them move with their friends. Throw those types a bone?

I read mutual help too and it's worth reading fiction but after it got removed from the Wattpad i think the author felt bad about it (or maybe because of some readers becoming obbesed with it or maybe the hype it's getting.. )so maybe.. just maybe ...that's why she wasn't updating the chapters that much... 🤷🏻‍♀️

it's just sad because I really love that fiction and so much into it as it was worth your time once you read it but because of the slower update I kind of felt bad .. although the author shared a new fiction ' employed' it's also good , the story line and characters everything seem interesting..& now i like reading it too because I'm bit into enemy to lovers gener..but nothing compared to the mutual help !

I briefly took a break from the community in the second quarter of 2022 (I think I hit 1000 followers that time) as I needed to focus on myself and sort all my things out. I barely opened tumblr. I did sometimes but I wouldn't post anything. The break I took in 2022 was really good and I enjoyed it very much. I was silently active in the bts community. Just because I didn't post anything, doesn't mean I didn't know what was going on 🤣. Well last year was a roller-coaster for the bts armys and my personal life as well. So much happened lol!

We're definitely one of the smaller ships here, but we at least have 200+ fics which is more than some of my other ships have. But anyway...

So I guess I'll start with what first got ME into GerEng. I've shared it before, but I love telling this story! So the year is I think 2018? Yeah 2018. Dreamtalia has just been fully released and the creator and her friend are doing a lp of it. Now this is the first hetagame I got into, and although I've seen the whole story at this point as the whole game had been shared on the creator's channel though part of it was like barebones, only sketched screenshots if even, but I loved the game and this creator and her adlibs were always entertaining. Keep the entertaining adlibs in mind.

So I'm watching the lp and there is a part of the game where your party of characters split up. Ludwig and Arthur, who at this point have been butting heads are paired together and shenanigans ensue. Now, canonically to the game, if I recall correctly, they bond a bit, a foundation for a friendship that is shown a bit in the beta of the sequel. But, the creator and her friend started adlibbing because at one point Ludwig offers his hand to Arthur when they're overcoming some obstacle and them holding h became a running subplot all completely adlibbed. At this point I was a hard Ger//Ita shipper and usually the game would have Ger//Ita undertones, but I started to get invested in the GerEng plot line and I was coming back to the lp every time they post to find out what happened next for the "handholding buddies."

Gosh this is already long and I'm not fully done my story and I still need to talk about my fav parts of the ship...shit...Okay 2019 an alternate small scale sequel releases for Dreamtalia based on the the bad end of the game and the GerEng subplot. This is where I really got into the ship and led me to searching for fics and fanart. Because after Dreamtalia I didn't think of GerEng again. Didn't think I would. But then this sequel came out and it got be hooked. And then I started writing for them and soon replaced Ger//Ita as my OTP.

Okay putting the second half of my favourite things about GerEng under the cut because this is already long.

Okay, first things first. I just find it so appealing that these two stubborn lonely men find each other. They're similar which does cause them to butt heads sometimes, but it also means they understand each other. They've been through similar things, have similar poor coping mechanisms, but through their relationship and trying to prevent the other from isolating and wallowing in guilt, they've started to stop themselves from doing it too.

And it's a mutual thing. Arthur is there for Ludwig following the World Wars as Lud is faced with his anxiety, PTSD, guilt and he's facing this all alone because either his loved ones have been forcibly ripped from him or he pushed them away. Taking a page out of another GerEng creator's book who I'll talk about in the next paragraph, Arthur comes along is like "Here. Music. Also human interaction."

Then once Ludwig gets in a better place, Arthur starts to spiral, faced with his crumbling empire and losing his status as a world super power. He feels he has no purpose now and being an empire made him feel untouchable, without it, he feels vulnerable. But Ludwig is there, basically uses Arthur's own advice against him with some of Lud's own experience.

Now of course there was so much more that went into both of their healing journeys beyond just each other, but their relationship both when it was platonic and romantic was an important stepping stone. And it just makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

Going back to their similarities, it's not all hurt/comfort, doom and gloom. They love to bake. I think they share some similar music interest since their was a period of music exchange between the two countries following ww2. Teethhoarder, an amazing artist and fic writer knows a bit more about this and covers it in their fic Are Friends Electric and also give a good run down on their ask blog. Their stubbornness actually can be beneficial because Ludwig doesn't take Arthur's shit and pushes back. And their bluntness has it's perks too because both of them, especially Ludwig need things told to them straight. And they're both not big into PDA, completely content with just simple handholding.

Then there is the history. Christmas Truce 1914 where German and British troops declared a truce in honour of Christmas and celebrated the holiday together. I as well as many other shippers see this as a jump start to their relationship, the time where they got to know each other as Arthur and Ludwig instead of the British Empire and the German Empire. Then there is the whole music exchange. There is also another historical period that I think contributes to their relationship, but I don't like touching that era when Lud is involved...

Also canon...though not necessaryily with overt romantic undertones like early Ger//Ita or Su//Fin or Fr//Uk or nowadays Ger//Fra, they have their sweet moments in canon like them having tea together. Or sharing rations. Or the Christmas Truce. Or how that one episode where they're all sharing their horror movies and one of the fun fact pop ups say Germany and England work on horror movies together or something. Then there is that one time Arthur is helping Ludwig with his work persumeably. Or the time Art was fretting about Ludwig working in his games. Oh here's that strip:

Lol I knew somehow when I put on my Stranger Things sweatshirt today that I would get this ask lol. Super fun question, thanks for asking! I love talking about any of my other fandoms. I've been pretty involved in the Stranger Things fandom from the jump, I liveblog every new season which you guys do not have to worry about for a while but you can totally backread my ST tags (melissa liveblogs st and melissa on stranger things) for my content or feel free to blacklist if you don't want to see it. I was also active in a few discords for Stranger Things and It, so if you were in any of those you might've seen me around. Met some great people, a few of which are still active on here @sorenserotonin and @milfnightshade loyal mutuals 🫡 who I always appreciate. I'll tag them in case they feel like returning to discussing Stranger Things with me like old times lol.

As for byler and mileven, I don't have super strong opinions. The two mutuals I tagged are both byler shippers (actually I forget if Deidre is, I'm pretty sure). EDIT: DEIDRE IS NOT! I personally have always been into mileven, they were the heart of the first season to me in a way that's really unmatched. The following seasons they have had their really moving moments, particularly for me the third season, but never the same spark as that first season. I do think they are endgame though, because that's just the path the show is on. I don't think the narrative makes sense without them, and wether that is effective writing is a whole separate post. That being said, I will always always never have beef with an lgbtq ship in any fandom, unless it's with a very unhealthy character and I think the ship is straight up abusive. Fandom is a largely queer space because we create the content we lack. That's important and should be respected regardless of ship wars (and I'm a person that gets into those lol). I have a dear friend who will ship anything as long as it's two women, even if they never interacted. I've never understood this. I want the writing to be strong and the relationship to be healthy. But I understand why she feels the way she feels and I'd never judge her, that's what fandom is for.

Some other Stranger Things opinions; I think the writing really has suffered since the first season. It is still a great show, but they struggle with consistency in their characters which is a huge issue for me. They also cave to fandom, which is another huge pet peeve of mine.

I also think Billy Hargrove is one of the most damaging popular characters in a long time, in terms of fandom and the impact on culture. I might just be biased however, I'm on some Billy fans blocklists.

This season was the best one by far since the first. I know that's a hot take, but I think it's true.

Max and Lucas were the only characters who were effectively developed and utilized this past season, which was a breath of fresh air for them to not waste Caleb McLaughlin again.

I do not like Jonathan Byers, but that being said the time for stancy has long come and gone and returning to it is insane.

Oh, final take, we've been giving the Duffers far too much credit for Robin as a character when a lot of it should go to fav nepotism baby Maya Hawke.

Well, well, well my friends. I’ve paused the episode to announce that the moment is finally here. You see I wanted to go into this spoiler free, so I dutifully blocked the Wolf359 tags on tumblr. But before I blocked the Wolf359 tags, I saw a lot of angsty Wolf359 fan art from my mutuals heavily implying that the Hephaestus crew gets betrayed by someone they come across. Now I’m going to assume that this is true, maybe I’m off base, maybe I’m not, please don’t confirm or deny anything. But working off this assumption, incorrect or otherwise, is very exciting because I just remember the art, nothing about names or context other than what I stated previously, which means it’s time to play everyone’s favorite game show:

I hope, just like poor Doug, they force feed you enough cigarettes to get you addicted and then take them away to prevent your from dying faster, but still make you to feel the cravings Doug felt. And if you’re wondering why Hilbert isn’t on my jail list, his recent actions have struck a comical and benevolent chord in my soul. I sentence him to a lifetime of community service that involves surrendering his free will to his creation: the blessed eternal.

What does Blessie think about all this? No one has mentioned him. SI-5 either hasn’t noticed or doesn’t care. But Blessie is a very capable plant. A good ally to have in a time like this.

Omega contingency? “Last resort”. I don’t like that.

Below the cut is a long-drawn-out rant. I debated long and hard about doing this but I’m tired of keeping bottled up. So, I’m about to get messy as fuck and put all my business out there. Frankly at this point, I don’t even care. I tried to let it slide because I don’t like drama unless it’s in a sims story. However, at this point I have nothing to lose since apparently the people I once called friends stopped fucking with me anyway. 

I don’t know what’s being said in the private chats and DM’s, but I notice some interesting behavior ever since @shanisims posted her “goodbye post”. I don’t normally do callout post or bring personal drama out into the open, but my intuition tells me some shit is being said about me that ain’t true. Shanisims befriended me and we began chatting in the DM’s, then on Discord. We shared story stuff, personal stuff, then we started collaborating together. We swapped sims. I did some builds for her, and we collaborated on each other’s stories. She engaged in my content and vice versa. Then one day she just stopped. Once I noticed I stopped engaging too. Then next thing I knew... I was blocked on all platforms. I have another blog I use for shitposting that I follow my favs from. I really enjoyed her story, so I quietly continued to read it from there. At some point she alludes to a “beef” when she brings my OC’s persona into her story. She mentions that Bishop looks different because of “reasons”. Then she does it again later on in the story when Bishop is featured. My question was why allude to anything? No one was asking unless you want them to ask. 👀🤨 It was passive aggressive, calculated and cunning. Mind you whatever offense that allegedly took place happened over a year ago.  So, I decided to ask her what her problem was. I sent her message from that account, and I said it was me. I didn’t pretend to be anonymous. I wanted to know what her beef was with me and if she has such an issue with me that she had to block me why continue to use my sims, my builds and my character’s persona? I told her I felt used. She goes out of her way to be extremely friendly and overly helpful online then for whatever reason she just turns on you.  In the past I’ve been told by her and a few others that I am not afraid of confrontation, and that I can come off very blunt and direct. Some even unfollowed me. I don’t know what she’s telling these people. When I confronted her, she never responded. Instead, she played victim and did a goodbye post. You would’ve thought I bullied her, pulled up to her house and was outside ready to fight or something. I’m also calling out some of my so called “mutuals” cough cough @storiesbyjes2g and @ladybugsimblr​ because in the year 2023 where online friendships are no longer considered a foreign concept, people like y’all will happily discard them instead of doing the hard work of confronting, communicating, accountability, honesty and resolving. Instead, you hid behind platitudes like “protecting my peace” or pretend to be cool just to go radio silent afterwards. But I’m just some random lady on the internet so, who gives a fuck right? This goes for anyone else that may have passed judgement on me regarding Shani without knowing all the facts. I still don’t even know what happened! Take away from this what you will but I wanted to put it out there because I’m hurt and felt like being a petty bitch. Now here is real drama you can “protect your peace” from.

1 - Music. Def up there, one of my absolute favs rn is - (Kalam Eineh) or Words of his eyes 😚 I literally have to like pause scrolling through my tt favs (i use my old account to save audios, yes it got hit by the mute wave lol) whenever I hear it 💟

2 - Minecraft. Lol I used to play it sososooo much when I found it as a kid, and now I’m sorta living off of those 100 days in ____ minecraft vids 😇

3 - Art + writing! I have a very love/hate relationship with them because im a pretty bad perfectionist, but I love being able to just dump my ideas out onto paper/notes 💟

4 - Spirituality + meditation! It really helps me n my anxiety, and just generally my wellbeing lol. Im not gonna go into my ‘practices’ (because i know they seem pretty unbelievable to some people and there was a lot of debate about it a while back haha), but they definitely mean a lot to me and they mean the absolute world to me 🫂

5 - Posters 😇 I know this one seems a little random, but I didnt really get much chance to, like, personalise my room as a kid so posters and stuff are really, really fun for me. Also decorating in general even though im way too indecisive lol

1. yellow by coldplay

this is the song that helps me not give up sometimes. in my incredibly lonely life, this gives me hope that even if no one else is by me to tell me they love me, maybe one day i will love myself.

2. make my sun shine by swim deep

this is the song i discovered through my favourite BL manhwa "the shape of your love" and never looked back. this was also the first time i ever saw music used in a manhwa, music that was readily available and of course i fell in love with the mc who was quite similar to myself. this song is peppy and sweet and just so fluffy it can rot your teeth.

3. the aspidistra flies by stars

i found this song through a sasunaru fic once upon a time when i still used ffn. the fic was great and so is this song. a perfect ode to love, if you ask me. i loved it so much that i actually wrote a fic to it for my favourite boys and I'm still not over it. it's been over a decade.

4. stranger by jeff satur

jeff has so many good songs and I'm fairly new to thai pop artists, but god damn, this man knows how to write love songs. this is my favourite from him simply because no one talks about it and the atmosphere it creates. I'm a sucker for rare things lol, be it a manhwa or this song. and maybe i have a thing for snow and cold and relationships falling apart and mending at the same time. i dunno. i love the melancholy in this song.

5. first love by BTS (min yoongi)

min yoongi, the man that you are. i love pretty much everything by him. I'm also new to BTS's music but this guy is something else. i started with his solos and then listened to BTS. but goddamn, the moment i heard this one, i was done for. this could have been a tie with amygdala or snooze (both of those are my favourites), but the passion in this is unmatched to me and, well, this reminds me of the person i lost. somehow it feels nice to know someone else felt the way i felt back then. also it always makes me cry.
