Y/N SHOULDN’T FEEL SURPRISED FOR HAVING BEEN STOOD UP BY ETHAN, it seemed to be his favourite hobby lately. But when he came up to her with regretful puppy eyes asking for them to meet so he could explain the reason behind his behaviour, she really thought he would keep his word and show up to fix things.
But once again he failed her, and now Y/N was walking back home alone with mascara running down her face and with her chest filled with disappointment and sadness.
Y/N was walking through the dark and unsafe NYC streets, wondering what excuse her boyfriend was going to use this time, when she heard a whimper coming from the creepy unlit alley she was passing by. Her whole body tightened with fear, hands instantly became sweaty, her heart thundered dangerously fast and yet she stopped walking. Then the noise came again, this time more clear—it was a pained curse from a male voice.
The girl couldn’t decide if she was stupid or too brave, but she walked towards the person. Her eyes widened at the scene—there, sitting next to a container, was Spiderman; a bleeding Spiderman.
“Holy hell, are you okay?” she cried, inspecting the wound. “Of course you’re not okay! You’re bleeding a lot! A lot!”
Ethan cursed internally. Of all the people who could have found him, it had to be her. “Thanks for the calming words.” the superhero said between gritted teeth.
“Sorry! I shouldn’t have said that. I was exaggerating, it’s not that bad.” Y/N tried to convince him.
“You’re a horrible liar” his hands were shaking as he tried to put pressure on the wound.
“Okay, let’s get you out of here, the smell is awful.” the girl said, putting one of his—very strong and muscled—arms around her shoulders. “I know you’re in pain, but I need you to use a bit of your strength to help me lift you to your feet. Can you do that?” the masked figure nodded. “Okay, at the count of three.”
Ethan closed his eyes in pain as he let out a cry of agony. He had been walking towards the cafe where Y/N worked when he heard screaming. An old woman and her granddaughter were being robbed and it was his duty to save them. He would’ve made it to his date with Y/N if the thief’s partner hadn’t caught him off guard and sliced his stomach. Time didn’t matter anymore, he couldn’t show up wounded, and he didn’t have the energy to walk so he stayed in that creepy alley where Y/N found him.
“Ouch!” he yelled when the girl carelessly dropped him on her couch as soon as they arrived to her apartment.
“Sorry!” Y/N said guiltily. “My arms hurt.”
“It’s okay. Thank you, I just need to rest here for a few minutes and I’ll be out of your sight.” he panted.
“You can’t leave! I need to clean you up and then you need to eat something.”
“No, it’s okay. Look, just lend me a first-aid kit, I’ll do it myself. Then I’m leaving.” it wasn’t that Ethan was ungrateful for her help, he just didn’t want to be a burden. Also, if she was to see his body, she was going to recognize him instantly. And Ethan was not going to let that happen.
“Hey, you’re always saving our asses, it’s time someone finally takes care of you.” she smiled softly.
“I really appreciate that, seriously. But I’d be more comfortable doing it myself, if you don’t mind.”
“As you wish.” she said in understanding. And as he stitched himself up, Y/N went to the kitchen to prepare something for him to eat.
Ethan watched her from the doorframe. He wanted to close the space so badly, he wanted to wrap his arms around her waist and never let go. They saw each other everyday, but it’s been days since the last time he got to hold her, kiss her, touch her.
Y/N was really pissed at him, and with good reason. Countless were the times he had stood her up and he slowly—and absentmindedly—started to distance himself from her. And a few days ago, Y/N just exploded and they started fighting. Instead of telling her the truth (that he was a superhero and that the NYC streets were more dangerous than he had thought) he told her she was being dramatic and that he needed a bit of space. He regretted it instantly, and wanted to throw up as soon as his eyes caught her hurt expression. He was trying to keep her safe, but he handed everything in the worst way possible and ended up wounding the person that meant the most to him.
“You cooked for me?” he spoke up. Even though she couldn’t see it, she felt the smile on his voice.
“I told you, it’s time someone takes care of you.” she answered. “Is the wound okay? Does it hurt?”
“I’m fine. I’m a big tough boy.” he said in a teasing voice when she finished. “Thank you, Y/N. You saved me.”
“Anytime, Spider-boy. And honestly, you shouldn’t even thank me, you risk your life for us every- wait a minute.” she stopped when she realised something. “How do you know my name?”
Fuck, he cursed internally. He had messed up. “You told me.” he tried to sound confident.
“No, I didn’t. Do we know each other? Do we go to the same college?” Y/N asked curiously.
“I need to go.” he stood up abruptly, and a whimper of pain left his mouth.
“No! I’m sorry, I won’t press the subject.” she said, grabbing his forearms to sit him back on the chair. “I respect you wanting to keep your identity hidden. I won’t ask any more questions, but please stay. You’re still weak, you need to eat something.”
“You already did a lot. Really.”
“I swear to god, stop being stubborn.”
Who was he kidding with the hesitation? Just one look at her doe eyes and he was on his knees. As he ate, Y/N had her back to him so he could take his mask off. She could have turned around at any time and discover that the friendly neighbour hero was her boyfriend, but she never did. She respected his wish of not wanting to show his face, and that made him love her ever more.
“Your omelette was great” he said as he put the plate on the dishwasher. “Thank you.”
“You’re very welcome.”
“Why were you crying?” he asked, even though he knew the answer. Ethan and Y/N weren’t on speaking terms, so maybe by talking to her through his secret identity would give him an insight on how to fix the relationship he tore up.
The sad girl frowned and pressed her lips into a line. She didn’t talk to her friends much about Ethan because she didn’t want to put them in an uncomfortable position, as they were all friends, so she had been keeping her frustrations bottled up. And now there was this trustful kind stranger asking her about it, so she gave in.
“My boyfriend didn’t show up to our date. He has been acting so strange lately. He shows up late, he always has a different excuse and gets all nervous and defensive because he’s obviously lying, but most times he doesn’t even show up. Like today.” the exhaustion and defeat was evident on her tone and it broke his heart. “He was supposed to meet me today, so he could open up and tell me what’s going on in his life, but…”
“He let you down again.” he added in a sad tone. Y/N nodded, tears blurring her eyes. “What are you going to do?”
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath “I honestly don’t know. I love him, I really do, but our relationship has become one-sided. I’m trying to save it, but it seems like he doesn’t care anymore.”
Fear crept into his mind. Was that it? Was it their end? Was she going to break up with him the next day? He wouldn’t blame her. Yet, he couldn’t help being selfish—he did not want them to break up.
“Maybe there is something going on in his life… something that he can’t tell you for your own good.” he said, and he knew he sounded stupid.
“What could be so bad that he can’t talk to me about it? We have always been honest with each other. He knows he can tell me anything, he knows that he’ll have my support no matter what. I just want him to talk to me. I don’t know what happened with our relationship, but there’s nothing I can do unless he talks to me.”
“Things are going to get better.” the superhero said, rubbing her arm in a comforting gesture.
Ethan had multiple opportunities to be honest with her, to explain why he had become so distant and yet he held his pride and told her she was exaggerating the whole situation. So, as much as she tried to be positive and believe Spider-man’s words, she was scared the story of them might be ending soon.
Tumblr media
ETHAN REACHED THE TABLE WHERE THE GROUP WAS SITTING AT and eyed the two empty spots left. One was next to Chad, who was talking animatedly with Tara and Mindy, and the other one was beside Y/N. His spot had always been the one next to hers, but with their current complications and not knowing exactly in which page they were at, he didn’t know what to do. Seeing the way she was nervously pulling at her clothes and tried to look busy, he ended up choosing the first option.
Even though she was trying hard to avoid looking at him, his presence was overwhelming and it took all of her strength to hold back from peaking a glance at his gorgeous smile and perfect curls. She was dying to know if the situation was killing him as much as it was killing her.
Little did she know the boy was losing his mind. The anguish was too much, so many thoughts were running through his mind. He was dying to let her know what was going on, but he was scared it was going to put her in danger. He would rather have her be angry at him than her getting hurt because of him. The wiser thing would be to let her go, to free her from the chaos that came with being involved with a superhero, but he the selfish part of him couldn’t break things up—Ethan loved her too much to give her up.
He needed to come up with a decision. This contest of who could act like they cared less needed to end and he could not tolerate the loud silence between them anymore. “Do you think we could talk tonight?”
“If you have the decency to show up.” she shrugged.
Her armour was up, and it was understandable. “I will. I’ll meet you at your apartment after Econ?”
“Okay.” Y/N nodded. “I’m serious, Ethan. Show up. This is your last chance.”
“I won’t let you down again, Y/N/N. I promise.”

ETHAN DIDN'T KNOW IF THE AREA WHERE Y/N WORKED IN WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS OR IF HE JUST HAD BAD LUCK, but every time he was near, something happened that forced him to step in. Thankfully, this time it was an inexperienced thief he easily managed to bring down but his wound wasn't fully healed yet so he was in a bit of pain after the fight. But the important thing was that he made it to Y/N's house.
The girl was unable to hide her relief when she opened the door, but it soon turned into worry. "Ethan, what the hell happened? You're bleeding!"
The curly-haired boy looked down to find a scarlet stain on his blue polo shirt. The wound on his abdomen must have opened while he was stopping the thief, and he didn't even noticed because of the adrenaline. "Um, it's nothing, I-"
"Sit down." she ordered right before leaving to grab the first-aid kit. When she lifted his shirt up, she frowned.
"What is it?" Ethan asked worriedly.
"Ethan, when did this happen?"
"Um, I was robbed while making my way here." the lie slipped off his tongue in an instant.
"You keep lying to me." she let out a humourless laugh. "This has been stitched before, Ethan."
He sighed, thinking of another excuse. "Okay, fine. It's not new. I fell and landed on something sharp, and it cut my stomach."
"Okay, now I'm not only angry because you lied to me twice in the past sixty seconds, but also because you think I'm stupid."
"I don't think you're stupid."
"If you believe I'd buy that shitty excuse, then yes, I think you think I'm stupid." she spat. "Tell me the truth. Right now, Ethan."
Silence embraced the room. As Y/N worked on the wound, Ethan tried to find the words to explain. "I don't know where to start."
"Let's start by telling me how did you get this."
"A thief did it to me." he said, and ignoring his girlfriend's warning glance, he continued, "but he wasn't robbing me. He was stealing from an old woman and I stepped in. He cut me while I was distracted."
Y/N's eyes widened in surprise as they scrutinised his face, trying to spot any sign that told her he was lying. She find none. "You fought them?" she asked in disbelief, and Ethan nodded. "That's... that's really brave. And stupid."
"It's my job." he blurted out, making her look at him in confusion. "Well, it's not a job job, because I don't get paid. Not that I'd do it for money, even though I need it-"
"Eth!" she interrupted him. "I love it when you ramble, you're adorable, but could you please explain?"
"I missed you calling me Eth." he whispered, caressing her right cheek. "I miss you."
"I miss you, too, Eth. But we need to talk. Well, you need to talk. What is going on with you? Why are you so distant? Why do you keep missing our dates? What did you mean by 'It's my job'?"
"I'll tell you, but I need to warn you first. You were in danger before knowing this, but after I tell you... you are going to be an even bigger target. And you can't tell anyone, okay? No one knows, and no one has to know."
"Okay, just spit it out, Ethan."
"I'm Spider-man."
It was as if their surroundings had frozen, and minutes felt like hours. Y/N sat on the couch, dumbfounded, and Ethan's leg bounced as he bit his nails.
Meanwhile, Y/N's brain worked at a fast pace, trying to connect the dots. Now, in hindsight, everything made sense. His bruises, his wounds, why he was always in high alert, why his walls were up, his grades dropping, his tardiness... he became the friendly neighborhood spiderman. The vigilante she had found bleeding the previous night.
"Hey! You used your secret identity to get information out of me, asshole!"
"That's all you have to say?!"
"I mean, no... but I don't really know what to say."
"You're not mad?"
"I don't think so. I really wish you would've told me, could've saved up lots of arguments, but I do understand why you didn't tell me. I'm glad you opened up, tho. I am really tired of missing you and not kissing you."
Ethan laughed. “I love you. I missed you like crazy, and I'm sorry for everything.” he hold her close to his chest and let himself relax for the first time in weeks. “By the way, you need to quit that job. I swear there’s a robbery every five fucking minutes.”
“Have you been following me?” she arched her eyebrow.
“Keeping an eye on you.” he corrected. “I can’t let anything happen to my girl, and like I said, it’s a dangerous area.”
Y/N laughed and kissed his lips tenderly “I love you, my little stalker. Don’t keep secrets from me ever again.”
“Never. I promise. We’re a team.”

———————————————————————————
As soon as you had gotten split up from the rest of the group, you knew this whole plan had been a bad idea.
It was just you and Ethan now as you got onto the next train. You had grown quite fond of the boy and you wanted nothing more than to trust him, but with Mindy's words ringing in the back of your head, you decided to keep your distance from him while on the train.
You made your way to the back of the train and rested your back against the wall. You could see that Ethan had taken a place in the middle.
It wasn’t till the train started moving that you noticed your surroundings. Several people were dressed in Ghostface costumes. Your stomach was churning just at the thought that maybe the real killer was somewhere on the train.
You looked up to catch Ethan's eyes already on you. He must have seen the concerned look on your face as you could see a frown finding its way onto his lips. He wanted to move from his spot and instead come stand by you, but he knew you didn't trust him so he thought it was better he stayed away.
With every passing second the queasiness in your stomach had just gotten worse, you knew the ride would be over soon, so you tried to take deep breaths to calm yourself.
“It's gonna be okay.” You whispered to yourself, trying to find some peace of mind.
You focused back on your surroundings, the train car feels much more crowded than before. You no longer had a clear view of Ethan, and although you didn't fully trust him, knowing he was there brought you some kind of comfort.
You had been so focused on trying to see Ethan that you hadn't even realized one of the masked figures was slowly walking toward you.
You thought maybe it was some teenager playing a joke, but you quickly realized you were mistaken when you felt a knife being plunged into your side and a gloved hand covering your mouth.
You tried to scream, but the hand had muffled your sound.
The killer twisted the knife deeper into you.
A searing white hot pain had now encompassed your entire body. Tears filled your lash line as you realized this was it. You were going to die.
The train had rolled to a stop and the doors slid open. Before you could even process it, the knife was being pulled out of you and the killer had slipped away.
You immediately fell to the ground, not being able to support yourself. You brought your shaky hands to your side, trying to hold the wound together so you wouldn't lose more blood than you already had.
“Shit.” You cried as you felt the pressure of your own hands.
Almost everyone had now made their way off the train, and you could finally see Ethan.
He was still standing in the same spot. He looked like he was waiting for you, but when he didn't see you come to the front he looked back to where you had been, only to find you bleeding and on the floor.
“Fuck!” He cursed as he hurried to your side.
You looked up at him, thankful that he hasn't left yet, “Guess Mindy was wrong.” You winced.
He knew you were trying to lighten the mood, but he couldn't do anything as his eyes were locked on how much blood you were losing.
He brought his hands to your side, putting better pressure on it than you had previously been doing.
You whimpered at the uncomfortable feeling.
“I know it hurts but we have to get off the train, okay?” He tried to keep his voice as calm as he could.
Internally, he was freaking out as thoughts about losing you run rampant in his mind.
“I-I don’t think I can stand.” More tears fell down your face.
Your hands were shaking and you felt a slight chill. With every second that passed, your body and mind became more exhausted.
It would be so easy to just close-
“Ah!” You cried out as Ethan scooped you up from the ground.
Tears began to prick at Ethan's eyes and his chest felt tighter than it did a moment before, “I’m sorry.” He whispered.
Ethan yelled out for help, hoping someone would be willing to.
Your mind wandered elsewhere trying not to think about your impending death if you didn't get to a hospital soon.
You focused on Ethan. You focused on how for the past two months he has shown you more kindness than some people have shown you in a lifetime. You focused on how he would go out of his way to help you. You focused on those big brown eyes that told you he saw you as more than just a friend. You focused on the tight grasp he had on you, afraid you might slip away.
“Help is coming, okay? The paramedics will be here in just a second.” he looked down to see your eyes closing.
You were so tired.
“Hang on just a little longer, please.” His voice cracked.
You opened your eyes again to look at him. You wanted to hang on for him. You wanted the chance to tell him how you felt.
“Ethan.” Your voice was soft, “I love you, in case I don't get to say it again.”
You gave him a gentle peck on the lips before you fully slipped unconscious.
When you opened your eyes again, you were met with bright fluorescent lights and the repetitive sound of beeping.
It didn't take you long to realize you were in the hospital.
You raised up, slightly wincing from the ache in your side. Your vision was still a bit blurry, but as your eyes searched around the room they landed on a sleeping boy next to your bed.
“Ethan?” Your voice came out quieter than you had planned.
You cleared your throat and tried again, “Ethan.”
This time Ethan had heard you. He hadn't been fully aware of what it was that woke him up, but after rubbing the tiredness from his eyes and looking over to your bed he realized that it had been you
“You're awake.” He finally felt like he could breathe again.
“Are you okay? Is everyone okay?” All you could think about were your friends. Had the plan worked? Was everyone alive?
“It's all over. Everyone is okay.” Etham moved to sit on the edge of your bed.
You let out a sigh of relief knowing that you were all safe now. You looked at Ethan, suddenly remembering what you had said to him before passing out.
You could see the nervous look on his face, and his hands that rested on the bed were slightly shaky.
“Do-.” he took a breath, “Do you remember anything? Yanno before you passed out?” Ethan was bracing himself.
He hoped you would remember. He wanted your confession to be real, and not some death bed confession that you would regret.
You grabbed his hand, trying to calm his anxiety.
“I meant what I said.” That's all you had to say before Ethan was leaning in to kiss you.
Your lips moved softly in sync, the both of you sighing in satisfaction at the feeling.
You gently pulled away from one another and rested your foreheads together as Ethan brought both hands up to your face.
“I love you too.”

Tumblr media
Ethan searched every inch of Edenbrook, but Charlie wasn’t there.
Or, if she was, she skillfully avoided him.
His calls went unanswered. His texts were ignored. His efforts were fruitless.
Charlie disappeared, becoming another ghost in these haunted halls, and Ethan missed the irony. He didn’t appreciate the significance of her disappearance or the message it sent. He didn’t even realize she might be mad at him.
When he didn’t find her after his shift, he called her a dozen times from the car. Then, another two times while waiting for the elevator. And when he arrived at his front door, he’d already decided to spend the rest of the night combing through the streets of Boston until he found her.
But to his surprise, his apartment wasn’t empty.
Instead, he caught a glimpse of familiar blue scrubs and a mess of wild, blonde hair.
Ethan dropped his coat at the door's threshold and felt his heart soar at the sight of her. His darling Charlie.
Overcome with relief, Ethan ran to her, exclaiming, “Charlie! I’ve been looking for you all day. I was so worried.”
Before Charlie could respond, Ethan wrapped his arms around her and held her close. All while assuring her, “I’m sorry, Charlie. I’m so glad you’re okay.” He kissed her temples, breathing in the familiar scent of her coconut shampoo and vanilla perfume. She was alright. Everything was okay.
But Charlie was rigid in his embrace.
She was not okay.
And she was furious that he thought she would be.
“I’m not pregnant, by the way,” Charlie announced bitterly.
Ethan froze, realizing that he’d never even asked. He swallowed the shame quietly and consciously ignored the anxiety prickling at the back of his neck.
He knew he’d failed her.
Still, he told himself that it was okay. She would understand. Though she was angry tonight, she would be alright tomorrow.
Even as he lied to himself, he was too ashamed to speak.
“You didn’t show,” Charlie managed, her voice little more than a whisper. In it, Ethan heard all the pain, anger, and frustration she felt, and it struck him like a blow.
Slowly, the stakes of the conversation became clear, and it was increasingly difficult to ignore it. So, he did the only thing he thought he could – he remained silent.
Eyes welling with tears, Charlie continued, “I told you I needed you, and you didn’t show.”
“Charlie…” Ethan swallowed, “I’m sorry, I couldn’t.”
“Couldn’t?” Charlie pulled herself away from him, seething, “Bullshit. You didn’t show.”
“I couldn’t leave the interns. Everyone would have seen,” Ethan defended himself.
“I don’t care if the whole hospital saw! I needed you.”
“Charlie, we can’t do that.”
She hated the way he said it. So superior. So paternalistic. So removed.
It made her feel stupid and immature. And tonight, it infuriated her.
Who was he to tell her what they could do? What made him better suited for this decision? His age? His position? His sex?
He was only justifying his cowardice.
“Why not?” Charlie challenged him.
“Because Bloom will ruin us,” Ethan huffed. He was tired of explaining the same issue, over and over, when it would always be there, “You. He will ruin you. Everything you’ve worked for! Everything you’ll still achieve!”
“You’re doing this for me?” Charlie scoffed, “How chivalrous.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You know what I mean. What are you so afraid of, Ethan? Bloom? Or the possibility that you’re responsible for being there in moments like this? Are you protecting me, or are you hiding from having to be in a real relationship?”
“That’s not fair!” Ethan exclaimed.
What was this if not real? Had the last year been a figment of his imagination? Had he not nursed her back from death and held her in his bed every night? What did it matter if their love happened behind closed doors?
Protecting her shouldn’t be a crime, not when he knew the risk and could prevent her from getting hurt.
“Not fair?” Charlie repeated incredulously, “Was it fair when you left me to take that pregnancy test alone?”
Ethan shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“What was I supposed to do? Ruin your whole career to be with you?”
Charlie made a garbled sound of outrage. He was nothing if not predictable, and protecting her was the excuse he’d picked. She shouldn’t have expected anything less.
Against his better judgment, Ethan added, “You could have waited.”
Charlie’s eyes narrowed, the flame of outrage growing in her eyes, “I shouldn’t have to.”
Ethan crossed his arms, defeated but somehow even angrier for having lost. Having no retort that wouldn’t reiterate his valiant attempt to protect her career, Ethan stalked off, hoping he had something cold and highly alcoholic in his future.
“Of course, you’d run away,” Charlie lashed out, frustrated by being left when he was the one in the wrong in the first place.
“Me?” Ethan stopped mid-stride, turning suddenly in her direction.
Their control over the fight was weak.
Old grudges lurked in the periphery of every word.
With each barb, it was easier to dig deeper, to be truly unfair.
So, without thinking, Ethan retorted, “I’m not the one famous for running in the night.”
Charlie’s face fell.
With that one sentence, the fight changed.
It was no longer a disagreement about a single mistake. Cracks long kept below the surface roared to life, and she was afraid – afraid of what animosity had been harbored all this time and how it could be weaponized.
And afraid of who would be the one wielding the hurt.
Because, even now, Charlie knew they wouldn’t hold back until they’d ripped the other to pieces.
For a moment, Charlie was transported back to the midnight dash out of his apartment, a crumbled confession in her hand. A year ago, she was too afraid to stay and too hurt to hold on. Had anything really changed?
Ethan and Charlie were a patchwork quilt of old wounds and silent betrayals, hiding in plain sight.
“You left me,” Charlie reminded him because she needed to offset her sin with one of his.
“You ran,” Ethan did the same.
“You left the continent!”
“You didn’t even know if you wanted to be with me when I asked!”
Charlie staggered back, shocked at the raw pain in his voice for a hurt he’d never even voiced.
She never knew she’d hurt him with her indecision, and she hurled her next insult to combat the shame ripping through her body.
“You turned me down the first time I asked.”
The air crackled with tension and the horrific possibility that the newly uncovered wounds would spread and swallow them whole.
“You asked me to be with you, even when you knew you’d put your work ahead of me,” Charlie continued, each word a trepidatious step towards something so raw she shook as she said it, “You knew I’d always be second.”
“Second?” Ethan’s outrage roared to life, “Charlie, I stopped living when you were sick. I thought I would die with you. I broke every rule to help you, no matter who saw.”
“Exactly!” Charlie’s scream was broken with frustrated sobs, “You brought me back from death but can’t be seen with me! You’re not so oblivious as to miss how ridiculous that is!”
“I was protecting you then, and I’m protecting you now.”
“I didn’t ask for your protection.”
“So, I’m supposed to watch you get hurt when I can prevent it?”
“Prevent it?” Charlie found the idea so ludicrous she laughed – a bitter, wet laugh – “Yeah, you’re doing a great job of preventing me from getting hurt.”
“This is serious, Charlie,” Ethan’s face hardened.
Charlie was a grown woman and a promising professional. She knew better than to laugh about something so serious as the future of her career. She was too trusting of her talent. Ethan had seen many bright stars burn out, and she was naïve to think she was immune from a similar fate.
Maybe she was too young to understand the gravity of throwing everything away at twenty-seven.
They had the rest of their lives to find a solution to their problem. She only had three years to do her residency.
“I know it’s serious,” Charlie’s eyes narrowed, “I’m the one who took a pregnancy test by herself and cried in the supply closet so you could babysit interns to appease a man who already knows we’re fucking.”
Ethan flinched.
It was one thing for Charlie to speak of his sacrifice so callously. It was another for the garb to be veiled in truth.
Both were sins to Ethan – maybe more his than hers. Yet, he reacted blindly to both.
“I was helping you,” he repeated, a broken record begging for understanding, and with each replay, the original understanding was lost. And all that was heard was the reiteration of syllables and mounting frustration.
“I don’t want your help. I want to make my own decisions!” Charlie felt powerless.
Useless.
Stupid.
Young. Incredibly young.
As Ethan stood stoic in front of her, Charlie felt frantic. She wanted to scream until he felt the same life-altering anxiety and pain she did. She wanted him to feel it. She didn’t want to stand in the storm alone.
“Well, your decisions will ruin your career,” Ethan’s words dripped in bitterness, and woven in each one, she heard his disapproval and judgment.
“It’s my career to ruin, not yours. You’re not my father, Ethan! You don’t get to decide how I live my life,” Charlie bit back.
“Why not?” Ethan felt like roaring, but his voice was unnervingly calm. All that revealed his anger was a clip to his words and a fire in his eyes, “It’s my life, my career, my relationship, too. We’re only here because I asked you to be with me. Why don’t I get to decide?”
“Because I asked for a boyfriend, not a guardian. I want more than secret moments and whispered promises.”
Ethan bristled. She was right to want those things, but it left a deep ache in his chest that he wasn’t enough to stave off her cravings. Why couldn’t he be enough?
“You see our friends,” Charlie challenged, taking his silence as an indication that she’d struck a nerve, “They’re happy and in love with everyone watching. Don’t you want that?” her voice broke, “Don’t you want to go home together without having to leaving separately to avoid suspicion?”
Of course, he did.
He wanted all those things and more, but he knew he couldn’t give it, not when every moment of tenderness could cause them years of pain. He loved her, but he wasn’t selfish enough to have her at the expense of her grand future.
And maybe, beneath the chivalrous self-sacrifice, he wasn’t the kind of man who could give her everything she needed.
Maybe he wasn’t built to give those things. He didn’t know how because he’d never given it to anyone else, even when they stood begging before him. No one had ever meant this much to him, and he’d never had a reason to try until now.
Perhaps hiding in the shadows was easier than failing in the light.
“Of course, I want that, but you know that’s not something we can do,” Ethan’s angry words felt more like a plea than a scream, a plea for her to finally understand, “You always knew that. We agreed to these limits from the start.”
“But why?” Charlie challenged, “Who would have cared? What would have happened? Were we afraid of actual danger, or were we just hiding?”
“We had to hide.”
“No, we didn’t. We were hiding from this. Be honest, neither of us really trusted that we could be together without destroying ourselves and each other.”
“So, what is this then?” Ethan threw his hands up, gesturing to the fight and all the lingering wounds it created, “Some self-fulfilling prophecy? We have to break our relationship because we fear it?”
“It’s already broken, Ethan.”
Ethan staggered back, his legs giving way to the force of the shock.
It wasn’t broken.
This is just one fracture – there have been ones before it, and there will be more after. But it’s far from shattered.
They’ll make it, if they just make it through the night.
But maybe Charlie didn’t want to make it, he realized, and it was a breathtaking blow.
Ethan didn’t know what to say. He wasn’t the kind of man who knew want to do or how to make this all better.
Once, he’d been a god. He’d flirted with the heavens and glared down at mortals.
Now, he was just a boy.
A boy who never learned how to say he was sorry.
A boy who didn’t know what it meant to stay.
A boy who’d spent so long avoiding love that he couldn’t stop it slipping from his grasp.
“Charlotte,” Ethan stumbled, the tears residing in his voice rather than his eyes, “this is one fight.”
It didn’t have to be more. The morning could heal them, if they waited long enough.
“No, it’s not,” Charlie didn’t hide her feelings like Ethan did. She wasn’t sure she could. Instead, the hurt poured out of her. With every word, a pain expressed. A wound unearthed. A wedge between them formed. “It’s weeks of fighting and almost a year of hiding.”
“It was one mistake!” his voice started to slip. Desperation clung to his throat. She felt the panic in his voice.
And maybe it felt nice.
A reminder that he was in pain, too. Maybe she wanted to rub it in.
“You would do it tomorrow!” she roared.
Ethan paused, unable to deny it.
“Admit it,” Charlie demanded.
“Fine!” Ethan threw up his hands, “I would! Because this is my fault! I couldn’t stay away from you, and I can’t just stand here and let you pay the price.”
Charlie wanted to scream.
The same line.
The same fucking story.
Her jaw tightened as she recalled how many times he’d told her this. How many nights she’d let him say it and still gotten back in his bed. How many silent betrayals she withstood just so he could say this again.
“This is exhausting, Ethan,” she paced, “We have the same fight every night, and nothing has changed!”
“Charlie, I’m sorry.”
“That’s not enough!” Charlie stopped mid-stride, shooting him a glare so rich in animosity that Ethan wondered if she truly hated him, “Being sorry is not enough!”
“Then what is?” he demanded.
Charlie said nothing – she just paced.
She walked because she didn’t know what could be enough.
This beautiful, unbreakable, eternal thing was mangled and destroyed. Even as hope clawed through her and tore at her soul, begging to find something to hold on to, Charlie couldn’t find a way to save them.
He left her there.
Today. The night of the grand opening. The mornings he didn’t walk in with her. The evenings he pretended not to go home to her. The casual conversations where he said he wasn’t seeing anyone. The purposeful lies he spread about their distance and lack of attachment.
He disappointed her.
As horrible as it was, this betrayal hurt so much because it was one of many.
Death by a thousand cuts.
Ethan didn’t save her. He didn’t even try.
And nothing could fix that.
Charlie’s silence was deafening.
Ethan waited for her to find a way out of this mess – a gesture he could offer, a promise he could make, a sin he could avoid. When she didn’t, Ethan finally understood the gravity of their grudges and buried wounds.
It was more than this fight.
It was more than all the fights.
It was everything – all the way back to the beginning.
And for the first time in a long time, Ethan’s confidence faltered, and he realized that Charlie could really leave him. Unlike all the other nights, they might not emerge unscathed.
This knowledge burned.
The second it touched him, the flame spread, destroying everything in his path. It ached. It stung. It ravaged him, body and soul, and left him lifeless. Because he would be lifeless without her.
He knew how to be abandoned.
He knew that people left.
He knew that love was ridiculous and would only hurt those stupid enough to pursue it.
But this was different.
Charlie, his beautiful Charlie, was different.
She couldn’t leave.
No. No. Please, no.
Fear. All he felt was fear and loss and desperation, and he begged. He begged her to understand, to stay, to love him.
“Charlie, my darling Charlie, it’s okay” Ethan rushed to her, locking his arms around her and wiping the salty tears from her face, “I love you. We will fix this, please. We’re not the same people who hurt each other back then. We’ve changed.”
“What does it mean to change when I’m always running away and you’re always letting me go?” Charlie sobbed, letting his warm, soft hands wipe away the tears as they fell.
She couldn’t stop him, not when part of her knew she may never feel it again.
“You don’t have to run,” Ethan pressed his forehead to hers, breathing her in.
Cataloging the way she smelt. Savoring the way she took her breaths. Memorizing the feeling of her skin on his.
He needed to save this moment, even if it was ugly and would haunt him until his final breath.
“Baby, you don’t need to run. I love you,” he kissed her nose sloppily, whispering the praise of “I love you” over and over like an incantation that might bring her back.
Charlie wept with each promise.
She didn’t have the words, yet she said them back to him each time.
But this moment was always just a moment.
Just as they knew it would, the tide of fury swept Charlie up, and she looked at her precious Ethan with a fire so hot that it burned up any devotion and affection. Anger and disappointment rushed through her, leaving her blinded.
“Are you going to change?” Charlie demanded.
“Charlie-“
“Are you going to change?” she repeated more insistently.
Ethan couldn’t lie.
“No,” he breathed, ashamed of the word before it left his lips.
“Are we still going to hide?” Charlie asked.
He felt the change with each word she said.
She was frustrated.
She hated him.
And she already knew what he would say.
“Yes,” he affirmed, closing his eyes to spare himself the pain of watching her anger grow.
“If this all happened tomorrow – if I needed you and being by my side carried the risk of discovery – would you still do this? Would you still leave me there?”
“Charlie, I love you,” he begged.
“Ethan, answer me.”
“You have to understand,” Ethan urged desperately, “This is for us.”
“Ethan,” Charlie warned.
He knew she wouldn’t give him another chance.
He knew better than to answer honestly.
Yet, he also couldn’t lie to her. Not when they both knew the truth.
“I would,” he confessed.
Charlie blew out an angry breath, and she yanked herself out of his grasp. His treacherous, deceitful arms. Promising things he could never give.
Charlie hated him.
Truly hated him.
This horrible, horrible man promised to love her when he knew he couldn’t, and he cruelly allowed her to fall in love with him when all he offered was pain and disappointment.
And he had the audacity to cloak the damage in self-sacrifice and the greater good. He made her responsible for her own pain and avoided blame every time.
Selfish. Callous. Pathetic.
Broken and bleeding, Charlie seethed, “That isn’t enough! This isn’t enough, Ethan!” she screamed until her voice was raw, “I need more. I deserve more. I love you, but this is not enough.”
“Charlie, please,” he reached for her, only to see her shutter and escape his touch. Watching it felt like a stab to the heart.
“No, you made your choice. Every fucking step of the way, you made your choice, and it wasn’t me!”
“Charlie, stay,” Ethan dropped to his knees, flailing to reach her hands, but she was beyond his touch.
“No,” she shook her head, stumbling backward, “No….”
She was exhausted, and even though she hated him, seeing him beg was a new kind of hell.
It was too much.
Somehow, it was too much, but he wasn’t enough.
Before she lost her resolve and would submit herself to a thousand more nights of the same fight and the same hurts, Charlie gave up.
That night, Charlie stormed out of Ethan’s apartment, and he let her go.

A special one.
Set during OH 1.
Synopsis : A slight reimagining of Ethan and Aspen's first drink together.
Also part of the @choicesseptemberchallenge2023 hosted by@midnightmelodiz .
A/N Day 3 sea, ocean "you really like it? " "No, I was kidding. "
A short walk saw me at Donahue's, ready to drown the day in a glass of red wine. I searched the bar, looking for any familiar faces but seeing none, which was to be expected as I had been on a graveyard shift, I sat down on a bar stool, ordering my drink. Reggie smiled as he offered it to me.
"Tough day, huh? "
"Don't ask. " I huffed, sipping the drink and closing my eyes.
"I'll leave you to it then."
"Thanks, Reggie. "
He nodded and flitted away towards other business as I sat back, thinking of nothing in particular. It was sort of like white noise. Closing off all senses, including your brain, focusing on nothing. Suddenly I was pulled out of my reverie by the gentle scraping of the stool next to me being pulled out, I noticed a man lowering himself on it through my peripheral vision as he cleared his throat, turning towards me.
Ready to decline his offer and tell him I'm not interested, I looked over, startled by the steely ocean blue eyes of Ethan Ramsey and I was now very much interested.
"Rookie."
"Dr Ramsey. "
" You seem to have already started. " He motioned to my drink with a wave of his hand.
" You'll just have to catch up then. Whiskey, on the rocks? "
"Scotch, neat. "
I instantly pegged Ethan down for appreciating a good whiskey but scotch was a pleasant surprise, he came across as a Bourbon guy in my mind.
"You don't mind me joining you? "
"Nope, not at all. "
I wouldn't mind spending all of my time with you. I cringed inwardly at my completely inappropriate crush on my boss.
"So." I cleared my throat, continuing nervously "it's late, no one waiting for you at home? "
"If that was your subtle attempt to gain knowledge of my relationship status, way to go, rookie. Not that it's any of you business, but no, no one waiting at home. "
Reggie walked over with Ethan's drink, breaking the awkward silence.
"The special, as usual? "
"Ah, yes. Thank you, Reggie. "
"Special, huh? "
I questioned as Reggie turned his attention to another customer. Ethan just shrugged.
"I have my tastes. "
I eyed the drink curiously, it looked pretty much like any ordinary scotch, just more than the usual serving.
"You want to try? "
"Yeah, sure. "
I brought the glass to my lips, sipping hesitantly, as the strong liquid poured downy throat, leaving a burning sensation that almost caused me to gag.
"Oh.. Oh.. Wow that's just..Wow. "
I gasped, overwhelmed by the strong heat still radiating in my entire throat and had now settled in my stomach.
"You like it? I'll get you one. "
" No! no I'm good. "
I cried out terrified of the notion of having to stomach that, I wanted to put up a good impression but even I had my limits.
"You really like it? "
"No, I was kidding. " I admitted.
"Hmm." Ethan mused.
"Last call, everyone! " Reggie bellowed from the other end, I took the last sip of my drink and got up. Ethan remained fixed in his spot.
"Uh, I'll see you at work then. Goodnight. "
"Night." He only nodded at me.
I walked out, calling a car which arrived promptly, taking me home to the inviting memory of my bed.The worry of having accidentally pissed of Ethan Ramsey kept gnawing at my mind at intervals.
Back at Donahue's.....
Ethan sat, still going over his conversation with a particular intern he was finding indescribably hard to keep away from, he wanted to know all about her, her choices, preferences, anything that brought him closer to her. Her slight scrunching of nose, teary eyes and the warm gasp at his strong drink almost had him laughing. She was a classic lightweight.
He smirked, suddenly feeling much closer to her. He brought his drink to his lips, it really was a special one.

Dr. Ethan Ramsey had a certain reputation among his colleagues, peers, and terrified interns alike of being austere, demanding, and a cynical so-and-so on occasion. They said that he’d once ripped apart the AMA president’s research, causing the poor man to resign in disgrace.
But the two pairs of mulish green eyes staring up at him didn’t seem to care about any of that. They were also not impressed by his handling of the situation, pursing their lips and turning their tiny heads away as they (most likely) complained about him to each other in whatever language babies used.
The twins were almost four months old now and the experts called these the enchanted months. As far as he was concerned, those experts hadn’t met the Ramsey twins or else they would have revised their opinion.
He was on baby duty while Cassie went for her first run in a long time. He knew she’d missed running while pregnant and had been chomping at the bit to get out there once she received the all-clear from her doctor.
The twins had been asleep when she left and he had been using the alone time to catch up on the latest journal articles. When he heard their thin cries echo over the baby monitor, he knew the quiet time was over.
Then he made the cardinal sin of being just a few minutes too late to suit them. Their whimpers had turned into full blown wailing by the time he entered the nursery.
Well used to the routine by now, he checked and changed their wet diapers (grateful they had only been wet and nothing else). They wiggled the whole time, apparently punishing him for his tardiness, so that he had to hold them down with one arm.
“Come on, you two,” he said sternly. “You’ve had your fun. Now behave yourselves.”
They continued to troll him, alternating between hitting his forearm with their tiny feet and grumbling at him. So, he quickly completed the task at hand, taping the sides of Sophie’s diaper before repeating the process with Eloise. They settled down enough for him to dress them up in clean onesies, popping the buttons in place with a sigh of relief.
He discarded the soiled clothes and diapers while keeping one eye on the twins as they babbled to each other on the changing table. He noticed how Eloise smiled at her sister while Sophie waved her hands expressively, almost as if telling a story.
Olivia had mentioned once how Cassie and Max had been the same as babies, happy in their own company with a unique way of communicating. As far as Ethan could tell, nothing much had changed as adults.
Lost in thought as he looked out the window, it took him a few minutes to realize the twins had gone quiet. Too quiet. And then the smell hit him. Foul and so pungent that he had to pinch his nostrils closed to prevent it invading his senses.
His litany of curses bounced off the walls making them laugh. Flabbergasted, he stared down at the twins, noting an almost calculating glint in their eyes as they watched him back.
“You couldn’t have done that before I cleaned you up?”
He watched in consternation as their faces scrunched and then they both let out another foul-smelling load. Their peals of laughter soon followed before they turned sideways to face each other, cooing the whole time.
“Christ.” He somehow guessed that this was their way of getting back at him for the ‘behave yourselves’ remark.
Hands on his hips, he surveyed his daughters who were relishing in his discomfort, smiling and giggling, their small bodies vibrating with amusement. And then rolled up the sleeves of his shirt to begin anew the work of getting them cleaned up.
“I've seen that smile before,” he mused, the severity on his face at odds with the amusement in his voice as he bent over them, lifting them by the feet to wipe their bums clean. “You two are going to be a handful, aren’t you?”
First Eloise and then Sophie shoved a tiny fist into his mouth. And that, as far as they were concerned, was that.

Summary: Ethan starts at Edenbrook, with the emotional scars from Hopkins still fresh. This chapter will span residency and look at the beginnings of three relationships that Ethan finds himself in
Disclaimer: Characters belong to Pixelberry
🩺🩺🩺🩺🩺🩺🩺🩺🩺🩺🩺
Ethan was stoic but excited. He graduated top of his class and got accepted into his first pick for residency at Edenbrook. The final summer dragged ceaselessly but finally he was in Boston ready to embark on his career.
There were new interns from all over, he was the only medical resident that was accepted from Hopkins. Ethan was not there to make friends though. The betrayal by Tobias still stung and he was not eager to relive that. He knew these people would be his colleagues, however outside of work he was not going to get involved.
His first patient was a female, she was not much older than he. He had diagnosed her with appendicitis. He was waiting to get her temperature down before she went into surgery and that appeared to be working. Rounds came. Ethan already disliked this doctor that he had been saddled up to. Now they were at his patient and this doctor had the nerve to disagree with his diagnosis. The patient was becoming distressed and cried out in pain. Then Dr Banerji came in to find out what was happening. Dr Banerji did a physical exam and agreed with Ethan’s diagnosis. The patient was then taken to surgery. Ethan was asked to see Dr Banerji later in the shift. Ethan became nervous. He knew he was being insubordinate but for the patient to be disregarded like that, he was angry. She was now in recovery thankfully and was going to see her after his meeting with Dr Banerji.
Ethan knocked on the door and was surprised to be greeted warmly.
“Firstly, good job on standing up for your patient, I see too many interns second guess themselves when an attending comes up with something different but Ms Hudson got the care she needed all because you stood up and stood firm.”
Ethan did not know what to say as Thank you that did leave his mouth seemed inadequate. Dr Banerji continued,
“ I read your application, it showed me a young doctor with great potential and who genuinely cares about the patients. I do like it when what I read in an application matches up to reality.”
Ethan was stunned.
“So does this mean I am not kicked off the program?”questioned Ethan.
Naveen smiled warmly.
“On the contrary my dear boy, the medical profession needs more people like you. Keep doing what you are doing and you will be fine.” Ethan breathed a sigh of relief. He then went back to the hospital. He stopped by his patients room to see how she was.
“Hello Ms Hudson, how are you after surgery?”
“Please, call me Delores. I am fine. And I am glad you stopped by.”
“You are?”
“Yes, thank you for standing up for me with that other doctor, truly, I shudder to think what would have happened to me if you had not.”
“Well I am glad too that you came through that ordeal, no one deserves to be dismissed like that.”
They chat some more and they exchange email addresses.
A few days later Ethan is catching a break in one of the on call rooms. Delores had gone home a few days prior and he thought that he would send her an email. He was in 2 minds about it. One on hand it seemed rude but he was not looking for any type of relationship and he was sure that reaching out would open a door he was adamant he did not want opened. He sent her an email asking how her recovery is going. Later that day he received the following;
To Ethan,
Thank you for checking in. I am recovering well. I would like to meet up. There is a coffee shop near the hospital called Derry Roasters. From what you told me I think you will like the coffee there.
Regards
Delores Hudson
Ethan was torn but the coffee recommendation swayed him. They met the following Sunday. Delores arrived first and ordered a Vienna for them both. Ethan arrived, surprised that Delores had ordered for them. He was bemused with his order.
“It is called a Vienna,” she explained. “I have not come across anywhere that makes Vienna like they do here. It is creamy but how they layer it means you get more coffee.”
Ethan sipped it slowly, he had been drinking espresso for years so milk or cream to him was an abomination but he found himself genuinely enjoying it. They got to know each other. Delores is a legal secretary who recently divorced and moved from Illinois to New Bedford but got a position in Boston after the divorce. Ethan did not go into great detail about his life but Delores could sense he was holding something back. They then proceeded to walk through Boston Common.
“I have enjoyed today, Delores, I am glad I decided to come.”
“Me too, Ethan. We all need friends when we are starting fresh in a new city.”
Ethan winced at that but agreed. Making friends was something that he had not seen himself doing, especially with how spectacularly the last and closest friendship he had ended. Despite the nagging feeling that something would go wrong he wanted to believe that it could work. They agreed to meet again in a few weeks for brunch.
A few weeks later he met Delores for brunch and enjoyed it. Ethan even admitting to Delores that he was enjoying the friendship that was developing between them. Delores was glad. She too was looking for friends having recently moved and it felt good to have made one outside of her office.
Professionally Ethan was flourishing under the mentorship of Naveen. He was still not overly friendly with the medical interns, this did not perturb Ethan in any way. He did surprise himself by becoming friendly with one of the top surgical interns. Her name, Harper Emery. They started off as being friendly, then they became friends. Ethan found her very attractive, not just physically but the scars from Estelle had him gun shy about wanting to pursue anything more. Harper, too found Ethan attractive and wondered if she could handle a romantic relationship.
One evening , on one of their dinner dates at a local restaurant, Harper decided to bite the bullet and state that she had feelings of more than friendship. Ethan said he had similar feelings. It was when he told her about Estelle, Tobias and the betrayal. Harper was shocked but understood his reluctance. Harper stated she had not had a good history either. They decided to give it ago but decided to take things slowly.
The budding romance did not detract from their work in any way in fact it helped them both become better at their jobs, especially when understanding the differing perspectives that surgical and internal medicine provided. Naveen was also getting Ethan to think about a fellowship with diagnostics and rare infectious diseases. Naveen could tell that Ethan was very good at figuring out what was wrong with the patients and he wanted him on a specialist team that offered an avenue of hope for those who had nowhere else to go. Ethan was intrigued by this and this was the change he wished would happen elsewhere within the health system.
Intern year ended and then started the second year of residency. Ethan enjoyed the more challenging cases that he was allocated, much to the annoyance of the other residents, even some attendings. Ethan took some time to reflect on the relationship he had with Naveen, how it was very different from the relationship he had with his dad. Naveen pushed him in ways that Alan never did and then he started to wonder if it was normal to resent how you had been parented. He knew his dad worked long hours out of sheer necessity but he did wonder how things would have been different. It was at this point that Ethan started having thoughts about diagnostics and the principles involved and when he told Naveen, he was encouraged to write a book and the formulae for Diagnostic Principles was born.
His friendship with Delores went from strength to strength also. They met up monthly, even having dinner at her house occasionally. Ethan also met her sister Alma. Alma liked Ethan a lot, to the point of not so subtly suggesting that Delores should consider dating Ethan. Both Ethan and Delores were mortified, given that Ethan was still with Harper but Delores stood strong. Ethan is a friend and that is what we both want. Over time Alma came to accept this.
Things were going good with Harper, so Ethan thought. They met for dinner and he could tell that Harper seemed nervous. He asked her what was the matter.
“Ethan, I think that I am on the road to being in love with you.”
Ethan was surprised but also breathed a sigh of relief. Harper continued,
“I am surprised that I got here.”
“I understand what you mean Harper. I have considered myself unworthy of love even well before the events of Estelle. I do like you a lot, do not get me wrong, however I know I am not where you are emotionally.”
Harper was saddened to here that.
“I appreciate your honesty Harper. I know what I just said hurt you.”
“No, Ethan, thank you for being honest. I know how hard it was for both of us to entertain the thought of entering into a romantic relationship.”
“True, but if we continue, it will be messy. I would very much like to still remain friends with you, if it is not too awkward.”
“I would like that too Ethan, when we started, I had hopes of still maintaining our friendship as it means alot to me.”
Ethan was shocked to hear that his friendship had meant something to Harper. He suspected it did but hearing it mid break up was disconcerting to say the least.
“I enjoy our friendship too.”
Both were glad that they were able to end the romantic relationship amicably but it took some time before they reached regular programming with their friendship which both were happy about.
Second year ended and Ethan was onto his final year of residency. Naveen suffered with grief when his sister died of Cancer. Ethan was gravely concerned. He knew Naveen and his sister were close but Naveen took the loss hard. So hard that he started a patient on a new treatment that conflicted badly with the NSAID’s that she was still on. A tracheotomy was performed but Naveen nicked the larynx. Despite the action being unethical, Ethan signed off on the treatment and procedure and ensured that the patient had access to speech therapy. This shook Naveen. It made him realize just how badly he was not coping. He gave up
Alcohol for a time and processed his grief in more healthier ways.
Outside of work, Ethan was studying hard and writing Diagnostic Principles. The completed and published and he passed his boards with top marks.
At his book launch, Ethan did feel supported, Harper was there, as well as Naveen, some old lecturers from Hopkins and other universities. But he could not help but feel a nagging emptiness. He ignored it for the party but when he was home his thoughts went to freshman year and the saccharine event he had to endure and the comment that was made by one Tobias Theodore Carrick. “Celebrating the victories alone will feel empty.”
Ethan was shocked that these words were still ringing true. Before he changed his mind he rang him. They decided to meet the following Sunday. They met at Derry Roasters. They exchanged pleasantries and discussed how Tobias was right all those years ago. Tobias commented that it seemed that being a loner seems to be working. Ethan stated he did have the support as well as the friendship of Naveen and Harper but there was someone missing. Then they came to the topic that they knew they could not avoid. Estelle and the events of that night. Despite allowing three people to varying degrees, Ethan could not help but feel he could not trust Tobias again. Tobias was hurt but he understood. He still felt horrible for the way things ended but if there was no trust and if neither were sure how to regain that trust then they could not continue. He was sad but in a way there was closure. He hoped they could be friends again one day but he knew that if it did happen there would be no forcing.
Residency ended, Ethan was looking forward to commencing his fellowship and taking up a position on Naveen’s diagnostics team. If he was asked at the beginning go residency if he would be where he was, his answer would have been professionally yes but the friendships with Harper, Delores and Naveen surprised him and he was deep down glad about that.
Authors note: Next chapter will be attending days leading upto just before book 1 so a less angsty chapter but we will get a glimpse of the relationship between Alan and Ethan and a check in if you will of Louise. Then I will do a chapter 13 of DTI. That will be heartbreaking as we will be in book 1 territory. Reminder this series is primarily from the perspective of Ethan so it will be from his perspective so the pain is real.

Catherine: Not travelling enough. I've come near the brink of death twice now, and I've realized I should have payed more attention to what I need for a healthy life, and that is travelling.
Ethan: Letting Catherine go the first time I realized I loved her.
*Ethan's eyes are full of guilt, misery spelled out across his face*
4. Which of your parents did you approach when you wanted to talk?
Catherine: Mum.
Ethan: Never had much to talk about.
5. What are your hobbies? Why did you choose them?
Ethan: Writing. Helps in relaxing.
Catherine: Classical music. Singing helps even in the darkest of times.

When I'm with him.

Catherine:...Um...yeah, that.
*Ethan huffs, torn between amusement and exasperation*
8. What do you like best about each other?
Ethan:...Does everything count?
*Catherine bit her bottom lip*
Catherine: If it counts, then everything.
*Ethan's eyes darken ever so slightly*

Catherine: Wanted to be a murder mystery detective. Classical singer.
Ethan: Homicide detective. Journalist.
10. Last movie that made you cry?
Catherine: King Kong
Ethan:....Who cries over movies?
11. Have you ever broken someone's heart?
Catherine: No.
Ethan: Yes....
*He looks as though he might die of guilt*
12. Has your heart ever been broken?
*Together* Yes.
13. What does true love mean to you?
Ethan: It doesn't mean anything. That's the beauty. It has no rational response, it's unconditional, and yet the thing that lasts for a lifetime.
Catherine: He didn't really leave anything for me to add.
*She looks as though she might cry at Ethan's words*
14. Do you think you're compatible?
*Together* Hell yes.
15. When was the last time you really panicked?
Ethan: When I had a nightmare about losing her.
*Ethan's eyes momentarily rim with red*
Catherine: When I had nightmares about the attack
*Her voice becomes small*
*Ethan squeezes her hand gently*
16. Is there anything or anyone you would sacrifice your life for? Why?
*Together* No. Unless it's for each other. Because we love each other unconditionally.
17. Last time you cried? Why?
Ethan:....yesterday. Panic attack.
Catherine: Yesterday. Seeing him shattered is too much to handle.
18. What's your love language?
Ethan: Hugs and comforting words.
Catherine: Stroking hair and kisses on the cheeks, nose and forehead.
19. Describe each other.
Catherine: The perfect significant other. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Ethan: .....A pain in the ass.
Catherine: Ethan!
*Seeing Ethan's smirk, she threw a cushion at him playfully. Ethan raised his hands in mock surrender.
Ethan: She's home. I wouldn't know how to describe her otherwise. She's all I need.
*Catherine scooted closer to him, wrapping herself around him. Ethan reciprocated*
20. If you could go anywhere for your honeymoon, where would it be?
*Together*
Maldives.
*They look at each other, surprise and shock coloured on their faces, evident that they had not talked about that yet*
"So if we thought this match-made-in-heaven-couple was incredible, we're definitely believing and seeing it now! This concludes our first Q n A with the most charismatic couple on show. Give it up once again, America!!"
As Catherine and Ethan stepped off stage, they kept themselves enamored in talking about their answers.
Round 2 would be coming for then, but for now, Ethan just wanted to enjoy off-screen, away from media, with his other half.

WHEW. That was some interview. Ethan and Catherine will see you all soon!
Also, Catherine's birthday is coming up, so stay tuned! (19th January)

What was your pairing doing each Valentine’s day? (Book 1, 2 and 3, + the first one after series) as in “what was happening in their lives that February 14th.” Did they acknowledge it in any kind of way? (Book 1 or 2). Do you have Valentine’s Day fics?
Hi Nonny! I love this question!
Book 1:
Valentine’s Day, in the Saraverse, falls a few weeks after Miami. Things are tense between them. I never really had an idea on what that VDay looked like until @jerzwriter sent me a prompt for intern year and now I KNOW! Lol
Gen gets a box of chocolates and flowers from a “secret admirer” (it’s either going to be Bryce or her sister being sneaky and doing it to make Ethan jealous) and Ethan gets all bent out of shape about it. To which Gen replies, if you hadn’t stop us in Miami this could have been from you. This could be us, but it’s not. And then things remain tense for a few weeks.
He drinks alone at donahues that night and contemplates what the fuck he’s doing with this life.
Book 2:
Valentine’s Day this time around falls two weeks after the hopeful hearts gala and when the hospital is now running like a clinic. Gen and Ethan have been unofficially together since the chemical attack and gen is convinced Ethan is going to do something for vday because why wouldn’t he?
He doesn’t. And it leads to their first real fight, the “great war” if you will. They don’t speak for to weeks and things are not looking good. He doesn’t understand why it was a big deal because he shows her he cares every other day of the year and he shouldn’t need one specific day to do that. Gen just wanted to effort and meaning behind it and doesn’t understand how he can’t see that.
They end up making up but things aren’t the same for a while because Ethan is still refusing to commit fully and she’s aware they may end as soon as the hospital closes and she has to transfer residencies.
Come June, when everything is okay again he asks her out on their first real date and that night explains to her his reasonings for being so hesitant for so long
Book 3 (Sara’s Version cause we don’t follow canon):
It’s their first real Valentine’s Day as a couple, they’ve been dating for 8 months and it’s bliss. Ethan is determined to make up for the previous year and goes all out. He asks her to be his valentine a few days before, she almost cries because it was the sweetest thing ever. (He asked her via a note he left in her pocket — he always left her little notes once they started dating)
Come the “big day” he takes her to a fancy dinner, they dance to one of their songs at dinner, and he writes her a love letter. A legit love letter. (Which you can read here). He also gets her a box of chocolates that looks like an envelope to go with the fact that he writes her little notes. It was the one of the sweetest things he ever did for her.
Post series:
They got engaged two months after Valentine’s Day year 3, so come the following v-day they’re secrectly married following their elopement in Paris and 3 months shy of their actual wedding.
Unfortunately, at this moment they’re in a fight. Their second “Great War” and probably their worst fight ever.
Unbeknownst to Gen, ethan had been planing to fix their distance and fight on Valentine’s Day by taking her to a drive in (where they had their second date) to watch Grease (like they did on that second date) but right before v-day he gets into an accident at Derry Roasters. And that plan is squashed.
They make up after this, as they realize how stupid they were and they go away to a bed and breakfast in Maine for Valentine’s Day.
You can read that here and see the edits version here.
I have plans to eventually write book 1 and 2s but right now I’m taking a much needed break for my mental health. So the only valentines you can read are the ones I linked above!
That’s for the question, lovey 💕

How was the reset period for your MC? Was she sad? Angry? Did others notice she was heartbroken, like was she getting drunk and singing her favorites sad songs? or was it more internal suffering?
Hi Nonny!
Well, I have two different MCs that were with Ethan during this period - Casey and Kaycee - and they each handled things differently, largely because Ethan handled things differently with them.
With Casey, he got spooked and bolted to the Amazon without so much as a word to her. I HC that Naveen asked him to tell her personally, and he declined. Naveen tried to tell Casey before she learned with everyone else, but he was too late, and she was crushed to learn standing among all the other residents like she meant nothing at all. She left him voicemails and sent texts, ranging from furious, to conciliatory, to just crushed, and he ignored them all. Based on all this, Casey decided she did not want a future with him when he returned.
When he first left, I think she went through a terrible range of emotions that would be hard to miss. Everyone knew she was not herself, even if they didn't know why. (I HC Sienna and Bryce were the only two she confided in.) In the early stages, she'd cry at home, then she'd get dressed and be like, "Let's go. I want to have fun!". She'd party hard, then come home and cry some more. At work, she wasn't as friendly, hyperfocused on work, and with a much shorter fuse. But, by the time Ethan returned, she was over him. She was still angry at him, but she knew 150% she was not staying with someone who treated her like that, so during his reset period... she was happily dating and moving on with her life.
With Kaycee, I imagine he told her the day before he left. He asked to meet her at a park by his condo, and he told her. She asked if he was leaving because of her, and he said it was a factor but not the main one. It wasn't a pleasant exchange (and I won't write too much about it because I plan to write a fic). But she left disappointed in him, and that hurt him like hell, but he was happy because that's what he wanted her to feel.
She cried a lot when he was gone but tried to keep it private. Some people at the hospital who suspected something going on between them would make comments to hurt her, and she'd just walk away, but it was like a dagger in her heart. She tried to contact him, and when he ignored her, that hurt most of all. She spiraled a little then, choosing to stay home eating ice cream and watching sad movies rather than going out with friends. She went through a period of self-doubt, where she assumed she had done something wrong or that he never thought of her as more than a booty call, and it was very painful.
But she didn't stay in that state for long. She went out of her way to do other things and enjoy herself. By the time he got back, she was in a good place mentally. She still thought they had a chance, but she had come to a point where she'd be OK if they didn't. Then, when they saw each other that night, she knew - they were going to be together. (So did he, he just wouldn't admit it, lol). When Ethan said, "reset," she said, "Yeah, sure..." and kissed him. The reset ended right there. lol
Thanks for the ask!

Jan 23, 2023
On Saturday, pal Ethan had told me that Cailee (my potential roommate) had told him she was planning on moving back to San Antonio once her lease was up.I had already planned on telling her what my final decision was but Ethan's information made it seem less daunting. I told her that I for sure wasn't going to Indiana. She left me on read, which was okay because I wasn't really thinking about the situation very much, I just felt it was more respectful to tell her sooner rather than later. Today (Sunday), while I was out with Ethan, I let him know I wasn't moving. He told me that Cailee (potential roommie) had posted something on her IG story only for her close friends. I'm not sure if I was a part of that specific group that could view her story cause I'm hardly on IG. He let me see her story though his phone. It was a picture of her claiming to have cried all night. I felt pretty guilty cause I felt like it was because of my message. I wasn't sure, but I messaged her asking if she was okay because I still hadn't received anything from the day before. She said she needed time to think about it. I told her that was understandable and that I'd be here when she was ready to talk.
I feel terrible if I'm the reason she was bummed out, but at the same time... she had specifically told me she was fine living up there alone, that that's what she had planned for. So I don't know. I've got an internal war going on. I genuinely hope she's okay.

Tumblr media
You were never one to enjoy the spotlight. Instead, you were often found in the background of things, just observing the extroverts who managed to get themselves in the middle of everything.
You had a nerve to admire them- their ability to just get out there and show their true selves, despite so many people watching their every move. Just the thought of it made you shudder. Yet you couldn’t help but also be rather envious of them.
Them, in question, being Sean McLoughlin.
You weren’t quite sure how you became associated with Jacksepticeye himself, choosing to focus on the present and future with your friend rather than dwelling on your past. He was just Sean, your internet friend. And also Jacksepticeye- a famous youtuber with millions of followers.
Sean was who you aspired to be in life. Outgoing, happy, out there, everything positive in life that Sean had, you wanted.
He’d confided in you often about how nervous he’d get before streams or videos, fearing that he’d say the wrong thing or upset his fans, but he still put on a brave face and went out into the chaos. That’s what you admired. His ability to conquer those anxieties.
You wished you could do that. You were simply too nervous.
Which is why when Sean facetimed you one night- morning, actually, seeing as it was 3am in California, where you were- asking you to join a game of Among Us for one of his videos, you adamantly refused.
“Why? Please, Y/N, we need one more person.” Sean begged, “It’ll be me, you, Felix, Ethan, Corpse, Julien, PJ, and Dave. Not everyone’s playing today, it’s a smaller crowd.”
“But it’s still a lot.” You groaned, “I don’t even know them. I just know you.”
“They’re nice! You literally watch their videos.” He argued back.
“That’s the point, Sean! They’re famous, I’d just be some random chick in the game that everyone asks where the fuck she came from.”
“No, you’ll be the girl that everyone adores. Now get on, we’re playing in ten.”
You sighed as the phone hung up and turned on your computer. A Discord invite was waiting for you- Sean must have invited you for you to talk to everyone as you played. You accepted with shaky fingers and put your headphones on, pulling up Among Us and typing in the game code.
“Hello everyone- wait, who’s pink?”
“She’s a good friend of mine,” Sean explained to Felix, “Say hi Y/N. We’re streaming live right now.”
“Hello,” You couldn’t help the meek tone in your voice, smiling shyly as if you were actually on camera. “Wait, you’re streaming? Sean, I thought you said it was a recording for a video.”
“I, well. It’s a video all right.”
The group laughed, but you stayed silent, fixating your attention on a lower voice that chimed in at the end.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Y/N. I’m Corpse.”
“The King of Imposters.” PJ joked, making Corpse laugh.
You giggled a bit, “Hi…”
Felix gasped. “Corpse, her voice is like, the total opposite from yours. Her’s is so cute.”
Corpse laughed as well. “Agreed. I like it.”
As the game loaded, your heart practically dropped.
Imposter.
As if your nerves weren’t bad enough as they were. But, on the bright side, you were with Sean as the other imposter. At least it was someone you knew.
You both split up, you heading towards Electrical. Corpse and Felix were close behind you, Felix following you into the room while Corpse left. You pretended to do your task for a minute before moving to your left a minute and killing Felix.
You rushed out of the room and then headed to Navigations, making sure to avoid anybody who could have seen you leave Electrical. A few moments later, a body was reported.
“Where was it?” Sean asked Julien, the reporter.
“Electrical.”
“I saw Y/N go in there with him at the beginning of the game.” Corpse joined in, “I saw them as I was going to the Reactor.”
“I was in Electrical with him,” You admitted, still acting a bit shy. What could you say, deep voices and new people made you nervous. “But after that I left and went to do my task in Navigation. Felix was still alive and there when I left.”
“Did you pass anyone sus on the way there?” Sean asked.
“No, if they came in after I did it must’ve either been from the other way or after I was already in Electrical.” You started picking at your nail polish- a habit of yours when things got a little overwhelming.
“So you’re saying that it could’ve been from the direction Corpse was in?” You could hear the smirk in Sean’s voice.
“Whoa, whoa, hold up. Why are you so quick to throw me under the bus? I’m just a crewmate.” Corpse questioned, “You’re pretty sus if you ask me.”
Sean scoffed, “I’m just inferring that the culprit came from your direction. Never in my words did I say it was you. Sounds like you’re getting a little too defensive for someone who’s ‘just a crew mate’.”
“Uh, guys,” You quietly spoke up. You didn’t expect anyone to hear you, but Corpse and Sean immediately quieted down at your voice. “I hate to interrupt, but we’ve got to vote. I don’t want us to argue…”
Sean laughed. “Oh little Y/N, you’re too sweet. I’m skipping this round.”
As you voted to skip as well, your stomach clenched when you heard Corpse quietly repeat “Little Y/N”.
꧁꧂꧁꧂꧁꧂꧁꧂꧁꧂꧁꧂꧁꧂
“It’s Y/N, I’m fucking telling you! Y/N!” Julien was practically screaming at this point. You tried to stay calm, focusing on keeping your voice steady.
The group had been calling you cute and adorable practically all night, so you were seriously about to put that to use.
“I was in Medbay with Corpse, isn’t that right, Corpse?” Your tone was sweet and slightly flirty- hopefully he’d get the hint.
Corpse hesitated for a millisecond- long enough for your breath to catch, but short enough for nobody else to notice. “Yeah, she was with me.”
“She was with you after she vented there!” Julien cried, “I can’t believe this- she killed Ethan and vented away right as I went into the room! You all are fucking nuts if you don’t believe me.”
“I don’t even know how to vent…” You murmured innocently, but in reality you were smirking. Julien was definitely telling the truth, and you were internally beating yourself up for letting yourself be so reckless after a kill, but nobody was seemingly buying his story.
There was only you, Corpse, Julien, Dave, and PJ left. Sean was voted off after fucking up his alibi, leaving you alone with the rest of the group.
Corpse sighed. “You all heard the girl. She doesn’t even know how to vent.”
“Wh- she just fucking vented!” Julien exclaimed, “Corpse, man, she’s got you under some fucking magic spell if you can’t see all the evidence. Guys, back me up here.”
“She’s sus.” Dave admitted, “And Corpse defending her makes it even more sus.”
“The spell she tried on him obviously got the best of him. I say we vote Y/N.” PJ agreed.
“There’s no spell, guys, oh my God.” Corpse laughed, “I just don’t think it’s her. I’m skipping.”
“I can’t believe you guys don’t believe me!” You whined, deciding to go further with your emotional tactics, “I’m literally about to cry. It’s not me!”
And yet, despite your protests, Dave, PJ, and Julien all voted you out. Crewmates had won the game and you were giggling nearly like a maniac as everyone gushed about how you did as an Imposter.
A bit later, you had to say goodbye to your new friends and face the reality that their fans would definitely find who you were by tomorrow. Or like, in a few hours, because it was already 4am. Corpse was in California as well, wasn’t he? He should be getting some sleep too, you thought. But maybe sleep schedules were different for Youtubers. You didn’t know.
You pondered the thought for a moment before the notification sound for Discord alerted you of a new message on your phone.
Corpse:
Just letting you know, your voice definitely had me under a spell. I’d like to hear it more often

For your love
chapter two - Venus Doom
[ series masterlist ]
previous chapter | next chapter
pairings : reader x damiano david
story summary : damiano and reader are in very loving relationship that sometimes almost too quickly becomes too toxic for anyone likings
chapter warning (s) : basically I want to describe you how I imagine Y/Ns and Damianos relationship in the best way possible.
THIS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU SHOULD LOOK UP TO OR IDOLZE OR ROMANTICIZE!!!
slight angst , mentions of corruption , mentions of sex , mentions of abuse and some mental illnesses , god complex , mentions of various kinks ,
Tumblr media
song recommendation - venus doom
Damiano David was a very complex person. He was a very hard to define persona. Adored and respected by many who knew him or not , never feared but was certainly often a main topic of various gossips.
He was very energetic and optimistic person , he loved to provide good time for the people around him but he also expected to be entertained. He was so artistic and charismatic, he had this cloudy velvety aura that could describe him as royalty.
He wanted everything or nothing .
He wanted to be dominant in every field he could reach. He was hardworking and stubborn.
He had a vision he didn't hesitate to fulfil.
His looks and his self presentation was mainly an act put up as guarding system and some sort of mechanism to prevent himself from bad outcomes.
Only his closest family , his bandmates ( whomst are also practically a family to him ) and his beloved dearest lover knew him truly.
Y/N however , knew him better than he did himself .
She was the first girl he let under his skin and under his layers of colours , luxurious presentations and egoistic posture.
He was bewitched by her. He opened himself up in all sort of ways he could to her.
She was the first girl he was making love to , not simply just fucking , but making love to, the first girl he ever cried in front of , the first one he introduced his ENTIRE family to , the first one he considered having their own family with etc .. etc ..
She was simply love of his life.
There was nothing much more to say about him than either to praise him or despite him.
Depending on if you wanted to be him / with him or if he stole your girl.
He was a sweet manipulative heartbreaker who was just simply along his fame and talent bored to death.
He cared about his physical appearance a lot , he took extra care when it came to facial and body hygiene and he loved to look good and markable.
He loved to dress fancy and he loved to wear accessories , he loved being in some dim spotlight.
He meet Y/N through his band mate Thomas , almost 3 years ago , and now they are dating 2 years in a row. Never breaking up but constantly fighting.
Her family loved him , I mean , everybody in her surrounding did. But their not so hidden aggressive and toxic relationship was not something they tried hiding.
He never laid a hand on her , only when fucking , he never cheated on her , only flirted to make her pissed , he maybe once beaten up a guy for talking to her , he never controlled her movements or tried changing her habits but he did liked to make bitchy comments trying to hide his jealousy and concern.
He had a huge pride along his ego that he was so damn skilled at hiding , but Y/N saw it instantly.
He was in fact often insecure when it came to dating , especially if it was a relationship he cared about.
He was not insecure about his looks , his habits , his actions , way of making love to a girl or if someone liked him or not. He was insecure if he is good enough at pleasing his partner in a spiritual and sensual way.
I repeat what I said . He always must be dominant.
So , in a situation like this , where you have a person whomst is consisted of su much pride and ego and insecurities , what are you going to do?
Y/N questioned her sanity and her mental health so many god damn times.
She was thinking for herself almost every second or third day if this is really what she wants for herself ? Is this the person she swears her life upon?
Yes.
And million yes in a row.
Damiano was a complex person with some certain needs that was just simply afraid of losing the most valuable person in his life.
His pride was not allowing him to admit that to her verbally , but his actions ( which Y/N knew like they where hers) gave him away.
So instead of reassuring himself somehow that their relationship is not in danger when it came to those simply and silly small things they fight over each day , he became violent and possessive.
His toxic and deadly behaviour and perfect skill of manipulation was the any way he thought was possibly good enough to keep her beside him.
She got hooked onto him.
She couldn't live a day without him. She would rather fight and yell at him than to leave him. He was her everything and so was she to him.
They where not so different. Y/N was also very capable of getting her way through manipulations and coping his actions.
But believe me... They where the sweetest and most dear people you could stumble upon.
They where both very supportive of each others carriers , they always had cute dates planned ahead and they had surprisingly the same hobbies.
They simply adored each other.
They where madly in love and it was taking over their racional reactions.
When a huge dramatic beyond the borders fight happens between them Y/N either gets kicked out of their apartment for the night or she simply leaves by herself.
In those times the only safe place is her parents house and she often heard her mother repeat the same damn words.
" Y/N I love that boy so much and he is very dear to me and your father as well , but he crossed the line again, you should start to consider if he is the healthiest option for you. "
Y/N hated her mother for being so right in such times.
Their mutual mental health was not a thing to brag about. They never mentioned paying visits to some kind of relationship adviser. They thought it was not needed , that they can handle themselves the best.
But Y/N did seek for some professional help and Damiano did not hold her back. He was happy even to hear about it. He never considered going for himself but he was happy and somehow sad that his lover could open to someone professional who could help her out with coping around stressful situations.
He was more than aware that he was causing her the most damage.
Their apartment was cozy , creamy coloured and modern. Their fashion taste was opposite yet similar.
They had a small dog and 2 gold fishes. They also planned to move into a bigger house with bigger yard once they decide on having family.
Damiano was convinced him and Y/N would be the most amazing parents a child could wish for , both of them spoiling their children with love and switching between good and bad cop role. He wanted a girl and a boy , in that order.
But he also wanted to focus on his career , Y/N as well.
Maybe those children will bring them closer to that inner peace they are eagerly searching for.
When it came to appearing together in public places they had one simple rule.
If I am not coming neither are you. They all shared mutual friends and they where always invited together on events and such things.
There was a difference actually.
When the band Måneskin, in which Damiano was lead singer , was invited somewhere Y/N always came , often mistaken for the 5th member or their menager. But in fact she way jealous of everyone landing an eye on her glorious boyfriend.
Those nights went peacefully some might say. But they didn't see the hand or thigh gripping under the table , the oral sex in public restrooms and silent eye language of hate and despite in their eyes . The kind of language only Y/N and Damiano knew for.
Y/N had a lot of friends. She was never forbidden to see them and she could go whenever as long as she was telling him where and with who she was , never turning her location off and always answering his calls and messages.
He had no problem with it , after all he followed her around secretly. She found out maybe 2 times out of 102.
Damiano is a type of ' a small circle of close friends and wide circle of acquaintances ' person. Victoria , Thomas and Ethan witnessed many fights of theirs.
Y/Ns best friend Y/Bsf/N as well.
The 4 of them would often exchange worried looks on their faces as Y/N would throw things at Damiano and he would shout such filthy and problematic stuff at her.
Ethan and Victoria had an intern joke that soon became something they rarely mention cause in each da they became more and more concerned for their friends.
" I don't need to watch porn , all I need to do is imagine Y/N and Damiano fucking after fight. "
Everyone thought that it was a phase these two lost themselves in. But it was not.
And it never got worse , it was always the same old tiring stuff between them.
Both of them where hard smokers , never considering doing drugs or overdosing with alcohol. Tho Damiano knew to drink beyond his abilities.
" If both of them would stop smoking , they could build two skyscrapers on the spot in one day. " Thomas and Y/Ns dad joked oftenly.
Thomas was the closest to Y/N out of the other band members. Damiano was never jealous of him neither did he felt like he could ruin their relationship.
First reason was that Thomas was the one who met them and thanks to who Damiano found the love of his life.
Second reason was that Thomas was beyond scared to even try thinking of doing something more than friendly to Y/N.
Victoria and Y/N had such a great friendship indeed. Having rare but meaningful girls night and sleepovers and rants about everything.
They cooked , went in shopping and shared topics about everything together.
Victoria was there for Y/N so many times listening to her cry on her shoulder about Damiano being an asshole.
Ethan was a huge softie for Y/N , he saw role model in her and he had just an amazing amount of respect for her. There was so much adoration between these two.
Damianos and Y/Ns sex life was yet another (not so much surprisingly) aggressive but consentive thing in their relationship.
It was built on mutual respect towards their partners needs. Simple as that is Damiano would never do and has never done something to make Y/N uncomfortable , same goes for her to him.
Before even sleeping together for the first time they detailedly talked about everything they where and where not interested in.
Their sex was rough, fast , aggressive , filled with degradation coming from his side.
Damiano was a switch top , but when it came to his so to say submissive side , it was expressed in very small amounts .
He loved being in charge , he was very flexible and he loved to use his tongue a lot , he loves to blindfold her and torture her , he loves slapping and biting into her soft creamy skin , shoulders , neck and chest especially.
He loved when Y/N left marks on his back and thighs from her sharp nails , he loved how she took good care of her hygiene and now she smelled.
He loved her hair and loved to squish her thighs. Did I mentioned he was into biting?
Y/N was flexible when it came to kinks , but she was definitely a switch bottom , it was just that she wasn't interested in being dominant and there was no need for it in her opinion.
She knew how to seduce Damiano , she knew very well.
After each time they slept together , regardless if it was fucking to realise all that stress or if it was love making he would always , but always ask her the same.
'Was it good , how are you feeling mio amore?'
Mio amore or simply amore was his favourite nickname for her . Aftercare was huge kink for them.
Damiano was not into letting Y/N leave visible marks on him , neither was he so much into marking her visible spots but sometimes when rage blinds him her porcelain heck is his canvas.
He loved planned dates and he loved bringing her various flowers every third or forth day. He never forgot about a single special day of theirs and he sometimes remembers the birthdays of her family members even before her.
He loved , and i mean loved spoiling her with gifts. Y/N also loved giving him gifts but more than that she loved to cook with him some delicious and various meals.
Damiano and Y/N where not near the perfect. But they where madly in love. And no one could ever take that away from them
A/N sooo as i sad on the beginning this is my personal view of the relationship these to have going on. This was in fact inspired by my personal experience and i want this story not fully to be a smut or nsfw but a kinda lovey one , just wanna say this is not kind of behaviour you should tolerate or romanticize !

What was the moment that first made their heart soft for the other person? Not necessarily where they realized “I love this person,” but a moment that had them like “Oh…I adore them…” that may have led to love? (For both of your couples please)
Hi Nonny. I love this question and I had to think about it because attraction isn’t always adoration.
Cassie & Ethan:
Cassie had a tiny bit of a crush on Ethan when they first met and it continued to grow from there. But it wasn’t until she saw him laughing with Dolores that she felt soft. And then he shared his inner self with her as they stayed up watching over Baby Ethan and crush became something deeper (even if she denied it to herself).
Every time she interacted with him after, he revealed clues about himself and she started to put together the puzzle of Ethan Ramsey. It really bothered her when Ethan said that any attraction was due to neurochemicals.
As for Ethan, he was somewhat smitten at Donahue’s on the first night but then everything with Naveen and Dolores happened so he didn’t give it much more thought. And then she impressed him at the baseball game and he knew he was in trouble. It wasn’t until their coffee date at Derry’s that he finally admitted to himself that he felt something for Cassie but acting on it was a non starter.
He was determined to keep to his principles and by the time he was waiting for her at the airport to leave for Miami, he knew that he needed to pull back (of course she kissed him on that moonlit balcony and he was sunk).
Max & Sienna:
Sienna didn’t think of Max as anything other than her bestie’s brother when they first met. She was still in a relationship with Wayne at that point and adjusting to residency. They didn’t start to become friends until after Thanksgiving in intern year and for a while after he was her friend Max who always listened, gave great advice, and took her outside of her problems.
After she broke up with Wayne, things started to change. When Max dropped everything to be there for Cassie after Landry’s betrayal, Sienna started to see him in a new light. They were texting regularly by now and she could say things to him that she didn’t always share with Cassie either. By the time she and Cassie went to LA a few weeks after the ethics trial, Sienna had a full blown crush on him.
The Christmas that year, and after the poison attack, he was there for her completely (still have to write the fic of that time). That was the moment she knew that it wasn’t just attraction, but she wasn’t ready for it so she tried to park those feelings away because he was still so outside of her world.
It took Max much longer to realize he had feelings for Sienna that weren’t about friendship. During intern year and most of second year of residency, Sienna was his sister’s fellow dolphin and she was his friend. He felt not quite brotherly towards her, but protective all the same. They could talk about anything without judgment or expectation.
During the poison attack, he held her in his arms while she cried when Danny died (another fic that I’ve yet to write), he tried to cheer her up during his pre-Christmas trip (fic still pending) and sometime around March the following year he realized that he couldn’t stop thinking about her. She was woven so deeply through the pattern of his life that he couldn’t imagine it without Sienna in it.

A/N: To make up for all the angst I give you this fluffy piece :)  If you’ve seen this before, it’s probably because this has been written and posted on my other blog @pparkersbitch as a Tom Holland fanfiction (which has now been deleted). It’s the same person and I’m not stealing anyone’s work :)
Tumblr media
Thomas and the band had been working on their most recent album closer to home. Somehow, Thomas had persuaded his friends into renting another home studio that time around. While he loved and enjoyed traveling around the world while on tour and recording new music, he didn't have the heart to leave his best friend alone after only a few months of giving birth.
He had agreed on helping you raise the baby the moment you two realized how much of an asshole your ex-boyfriend was. You had shown up at his home one afternoon to tell him about your pregnancy and a huge part of you thought he'd be thrilled, you really did. All you got from him was a disgusted look and the accusation that you had probably cheated on him with Thomas and that's how you had gotten pregnant because he was sure you had always used protection when having sex. Which clearly wasn't true.
After you told him everything, he was fuming. That day Thomas promised you and your baby to help with anything you needed because even though he wasn't the baby's father, you were still family and Thomas would do anything for his family.
You had been roommates of his and Ethan’s for years before you got pregnant and part of you had been afraid they would throw you out so they wouldn’t have to deal with a screaming and crying baby. Every fear of that was thrown out the window the moment they met your daughter for the first time though. She had them both wrapped around her tiny fingers within a few hours of being in the world.
He’d even insisted on you moving into the home studio with the band. You’d turned his offer down at first, not wanting to bother your four friends, but they didn’t listen and they took the chance to move her cradle and some of the furniture into their rented home while you were out with your daughter.
As much as Thomas loved his sleep and would probably kill whoever thought of waking him up, he didn’t complain when your daughter’s cries echoed through the house that very night. He sat up on the bed and stared at the time on his phone. It was only 1 AM, which meant you had just fallen asleep about an hour back because you had been working on a report your boss had asked for.
He cursed under his breath. You had barely been sleeping lately. It hadn’t seemed to process into your boss’s mind that now you had a baby to take care of because he was bombarding you with a week’s worth of work in one day. While you did get the chance to work from home until further notice, Thomas was still mad that your boss had no shame in overworking you.
Thomas didn’t hesitate to get out of bed and go to the nursery. He was hoping he’d be able to put her back to sleep or hush her cries before you heard her. You were a heavy sleeper, which was why he was hoping you wouldn’t wake up right away.
A smile made its way to his face as he saw the little girl lying in her cradle. You had put her to bed with a warm pair of socks and more blankets than she probably needed. One sock wasn’t on her foot anymore and one of the blankets had been pushed aside.
Thomas lifted the small baby. Even though he knew babies cried and that’s what they did most of the time, it still hurt him to hear her cry. He wanted nothing more than to remove any type of pain from her life so he’d never see her cry. He cradled her in his arms as he let his weight shift from one foot to the other, “Shh princess, it’s fine, I’m here.”
He walked around the room as he softly swayed her from side to side because her cries wouldn’t stop. Thomas had already checked and she didn’t need her nappy changed and he spent around six minutes walking around the room until the idea occurred to him that she might be hungry.
Thomas ran out of the room, careful when walking down the stairs so he wouldn’t fall or drop her. He was silently begging that you had left her a bottle on the fridge or something because he had no idea how to prepare formula and he wasn’t about to wake you up to ask.
The young man cheered internally when he saw the bottle the moment he opened the fridge. He had seen you heat up her bottles enough times to know he wasn’t meant to put it in the microwave. Thomas heated up water on the kettle and poured it into a bowl. He left the bottle soaking in the hot water for a few minutes. He wasn’t sure if that was what he was meant to do, but it seemed to work nonetheless.
Once he made sure the temperature was alright, he sneaked back into the baby’s room and sat on the rocking chair in the corner of the room. She was still crying at the top of her little lungs, so he hoped that it’d be enough to get her back to sleep.
He rocked them both back and forth as she slowly drank the milk in the bottle. Her crying had stopped completely, which he was extremely thankful for. Thomas looked down at her in adoration. Even if she was only a few months old, he had already noticed small ways in which she was just like her mommy and it warmed his heart. He still resented her father so much it made his blood boil whenever someone mentioned his name. Both the little girl and her mom were like two angels sent from heaven to brighten up his existence.
He leaned in to kiss her forehead and whispered, “I promise I’ll always take care of you and your mommy, I  love you,” He knew she probably didn’t understand a word he was saying, but he had made his promise and he planned to keep it.
Once she had finished her bottle, it only took Thomas a few minutes of cradling her and singing lullabies for her to fall asleep. He set her back down and draped the blanket over her small body. Thomas decided he’d stay in the room for a few more minutes in case she woke up again, so he sat down on a couch that was right next to her cot with his guitar on his lap as he played the strings softly.
—
When you woke up the next morning, the first thing you did was get up and check on your daughter. You had slept peacefully for the first time in months without a single interruption, which you found oddly suspicious.
A smile brighter than the sun appeared on your face at the sight in front of you. Thomas had fallen asleep right next to Valerie’s crib, with his guitar halfway on his lap and halfway on the floor. You also saw the empty milk bottle by the dresser and silently thanked whoever was listening for bringing someone as amazing as Thomas into your life.
