My transcript of Arjen Lubach's interview with Marwan Kenzari. DO NOT REUPLOAD I tried my best - it was a fun interview, and they were both being little shits lmao, there was a great really joke-y vibe.
AL: "My guest is a Haagse (indicating he's from Den Haag) Hollywood star. Yesterday evening he was attending the premiere of Black Adam, and today he's at the desk of White Arjen, also very cool. He shines next to the greatest stars in the coolest movies." [cut to montage of TOG, Instinct, MOTO, Aladdin] AL: "We saw him in The Old Guard, Instinct, Murder on the Orient Express, Aladdin, and unfortunately we couldn't afford to pay for more fragments. Give it up for Marwan Kenzari!" TS 00.52
AL: "What nice of you to be here!" MK: "Yes, thank you for allowing me to be here." AL: "Sure! How are you?" MK: "I'm good!" AL: "Great. Now that we have that out of the way. You flew in straight from London, I believe, this afternoon, right? Yesterday the premiere of BA. How was the premiere?" MK: "Eh, big! and it's always at Leicester Square and and that's ehm, yeah, a lot of fans (in attendence.) The subject of this movie has a big loyal fanbase in itself." AL: "Because it's DC comics, right?" MK: "Yes, exactly" AL: "And that's one of those super-hero worlds." MK: "Yes, so it was really exciting, everyone was there, it was gezellig (cozy/he had a good time with the cast), eh, the showing of the movie went well, so it was - I was happy/glad I got to go and attend." AL: "How nice! We have a picture of the premiere, and it doesn't match with how chill you are right now. Because, I see you standing there with - who do we see - the Rock, right? Dwayne Johnson, Pierce Brosnan..." MK: "Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo…" AL: "This was from last night! and now you're here in our funky small VPRO studio." MK: "Yes, exactly that." AL: "So, something about Black adam. We also have a short fragment of the trailer.. (MK: yes), ehm, shall we just watch it? And then after I have a question for you about it." MK: "That's okay." AL: "Let's watch it."
[BA trailer plays]
TS 2:23
AL: "Yes, so, you have a big role in this movie, and yet you're nowhere to be seen in this trailer. Are you sure you made it into the final cut of the movie?" MK: "You never know! No, no, I never said I had a big role." AL: "Yeah, okay." MK: "but it's ehm," AL: " But you were on the red carpet with 5 famous - so that was my assumption..." MK: "Yes, well, they allowed me to participate and I'm really happy they did but they - the way they shape the trailer and how they cut it, that in itself is a world of its own - I don't want to talk it right for them, but they have their reasons to why they cut me out in places where they could've left me in, and that's uh, it's a spoiler sensitive role, let's put it that way." AL: "Ah, so that's it. Okay, later we're having an after-party so we can speculate about this there."
TS 3:12
AL: "What can you tell me about the film, about it's contents? What's the story?" MK: "Well, like you said, it's DC comics so it's the world of a couple of really famous hero's like Wonder woman, Batman, Superman, and it's a complex story - have you got time?" AL: "Eh, not really no but make an effort." MK: "Well the story takes place in a fictive city, ehm, eh, in a fictive country I should say, we follow a young lady, a rebel against the current regime, and the government is feverishly digging for an important, eh, kind of product which is called Eternium and," AL: "This is going to be really long isnt it?" MK: "Yeah, well I'll try to summarize it in two sentences then Dwayne Johnson plays Black Adam who's actually a slave from five thousand years ago who gets brought back to life present day," AL: "wow" Mk, undisturbed: "BY THE SEARCH FOR THIS CROWN made of eternium… yes." MK: "And then I've actually left out so much of the story." AL: "Yes, I hope about two hours of movie you've left out."
TS 4:43
AL: "You've also done a lot of Dutch movies, Wolf and De Oost and these kinds of projects. Have you noticed any big differences between those and American movie sets? So not so much working with actors, but differences in logistics and these kind of things?" MK: "At it's core, no not really, because making film is a beautiful process of just searching. The morning you show up on set to do scenes, those scenes don't exist yet - maybe only on paper. So the process is maybe the same, but there's different budgets and you're working with people with forty years of experience, and, everything can be done/nothing is impossible, and the construction - it's like using a different muscle to come to these scenes (in shaping them), but in the end it's just a search for the story you're trying to tell." AL: "Did we lose you forever to Hollywood or are you coming back to the Netherlands to do stuff here as well?" MK: "I don't - I don't get to make these calls." AL: "No no you have to make a decision right now!" MK: "No, no what I'm trying to say is that I don't know! I am ALLOWED to play in these films (as in he's lucky to being cast), and I'm grateful that I am allowed, and if it's a Dutch movie I am just as happy." AL: "You're such a humble man." MK: "oh, that's all fake." AL: "I immediately believe that, and a great actor apparently."
TS 5:51
AL: "Can you say anything about upcoming projects?" MK: "Yes, so we just shot the sequel to the Old Guard, a movie for Netflix with Charlize Theron in the main lead, and, among others, Matthias Schoenaerts, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and this time in part 2 Una Therman and Henry Golding, so a huge, amazing, diverse cast of hardworking actors which results in all kinds of bruises and injuries and a dislocated shoulder and a thumb -" AL: "What? Because they're so disciplined that when you make a mistake they beat you into the floor or? How did these wounds get to be in this story? It's because they take this role so seriously they forget the physical objects or something? Like... gravity?" MK: "Yeah no, it's just because you're shooting 80 days of 12hour shoots and sometimes you bump your knee." AL: "And then you just go through it." MK: "Yeah." AL: "Yeah wow okay, awesome."
AL: "Are you ever standing still with the fact that you get to do all these cool stuff like, wondering what you're doing there or are you taking it a bit for granted? (laughs) I'm filling in for you (apologetic)" MK: "No no, I would lie if I said it wasn't special, but I also got to meet Remco Campert (a famous Dutch poet) in the Vondelpark, which is probably my highest point of being starstruck." AL: That's also nice. Fuck you Charlize Theron. eh. No, I was kidding" (fuck you as in marwan not being starstruck for her lmao) MK: "He was making a joke!" AL "I'm a huge fan please come to the show." AL: "yeah, I'm really excited about the film, black adam, I haven't seen it yet. I wasn't allowed to see it yet you guys were really stern on that so I am really curious, I'm definitely going to check it out. Good luck for all your future projects. Thank you, Marwan Kenzari!"

Random 8ACV04 Continuity Notes Because There Was So Much
"Tonight's winning number was approximately six" may be a reference to "today's winning lotto number was 4." from When Aliens Attack.
"Up here in the clouds, our technology makes us invincible, like the mighty X in Tic-Tac-Toe." - Zapp in Fun on a Bun. Fry and Zapp both think the secret to Tic-Tac-Toe is choosing X.
Bender does a play on words with human skin in this episode when he says "The dust is drying out my skin". He did a play on words with a human heart in Insane in the Mainframe ""You've got the heart of a robot. Just like inside me, I've got the heart of a human."
The Beast with a Billion backs also did a "it's a bird, it's a plane" joke.
Bender's grandfather is a pounder. He mentions his grandmother was a bulldozer in Beast with a Billion Backs. He mentioned his aunt was a screw in The Sting, but it was Leela's coma dream.
Farnsworth disagrees with something that he just said again, a very common gag.
"Neat" Bender catchphrase, ofc.
"My manwich" Hermes catchphrase, ofc.
In "Parasites Lost", the mayor of Fry's colon said his ancestors came over on the sandwich, so it probably is NOT the same worm since their lifespans were supposed to be very short.. or y'know, the writers maybe ignored that.
Farnsworth introduced the enlarging ray in "Anthology of Interest I", so the crew doesn't remember it because that didn't actually happen (but like the fing-longer, he must have invented it in real life, too). It also looked pretty different in that episode.
"You could end up permanently tasting colors". Fry tasted purple in "The Why of Fry", another episode where Nibbler is an important character.
Not really continuity related, but wouldn't it have been easier to just get some more sand from Eternium?

Double Edged Sword
Tumblr media
While everyone hunts for the super-powered metal Eternium, a boy named Chad learns some tough lessons about the difference between pretend fighting and real life. I was impressed by how this episode handled its themes of contradiction — He-Man respects the trauma suffered by an old veteran who refuses to fight anymore but also acknowledges the need for self-defense, and warns kids about the dangers of fighting while admitting that his own show makes fighting look pretty fun. It’s also got a helicopter-bee-elephant monstrosity named Burbie the Fuzz Bee. Fun for the whole family!
Episode Highlights:
Tumblr media
Mer-Man and Trap Jaw watch TV the kinky way.
Tumblr media
The monster’s wounds will heal, but the scars of He-Man’s dad jokes will last forever. (“Hey Teela, can you put your finger here for a second?”)

Orko and his many Hat Tricks

This is my hole.
Tumblr media
“Sorry He-Man, it’s way too late for that disgusting thing.”
Moral: Guns and fighting are a lot more dangerous and serious in real life than they are on TV.

November DWC 2022
Day 1 : Instinct/Neglect
“The Stygia market crashed!” Came the ragged shout as the goblin burst through his door.
Celedyn lifted an eyebrow, peering over the rims of his spectacles. The elf didn’t actually need the eyewear, but there was a certain gravitas to wearing them while shuffling through stacks of paperwork. “What; already?“ He hummed, reaching for his coffee cup and taking a sip of the unsubtly wine colored contents “Mnh, that’s even faster than I expected.”
Jezzix scoffed, obviously dissatisfied by the elf’s reaction. He strode across the office and stepped up onto the bench in front of Celedyn’s desk, finally the correct height to slam his palms into it, trying again “I SAID the Stygia market crashed!”
“I heard you quite well, kitten, I was—“
The goblin cut him off, voice coming in a panicked hiss “I invested my retirement account in the Stygia market!”
Celedyn blinked for several long moments, set the coffee mug down, then removed his glasses, leaning forward. The absolute gravitas of the moment, it was palpable. Perfection.  “you... YOU WHAT!?”
“I INVESTED MY ENTIRE—“
“I HEARD! WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU—!? Kitten, I TOLD you those nouveaucurrency markets are unstable!”
“You gotta swing big to win big! I talked to my financial guy; he told me you buy in the dip, sell in the rip!” He gesticulated wildly as he spoke, hands sweeping like a pair of rivaling kaliri.
“That doesn’t work when it keeps dipping! What’s anyone even doing with Stygia anymore? I heard the Mawwalker returned from beyond the veil nearly a month ago! They aren’t even keeping the death gates open full time, I heard you have to schedule an appointment with one of the emissaries from the Ebon Blade.”
“Yeah, yeah, limiting how much Stygia gets mined keeps the supply low! Keeps the value high!”
“That whole supply and demand thing only works when there’s demand! Nobody WANTS Stygia for anything anymore! Nobody’s off and fighting in the Shadowlands; and it’s passé to be making armaments out of people’s eternal souls when you’re not even going to do anything with it. Remember Saronite? Remember when EVERYONE was wearing Saronite and then they found out it was the mortal remains of an old god and was slowly driving people insane? Suddenly nobody wanted anything to do with Saronite, everyone was investing in Eternium!”
“Yeah I had some bonds in Saronite, supposed to mature this year. Can’t even make a doorstop out of that shit.”
“Exactly! You can’t go putting your long term investments in nouveaucurreny! It’s too unreliable! How much did you invest?”
“My whole Wrath IRA!”
“What?? -- WHY?”
“My financial guy told me I was getting in while it was low!”
Celedyn groaned, slumping back into his chair. He tried to pull his spectacles off for dramatic effect, only to find he’d already removed them. Wasted the gravitas. He huffed and sat up, finding them and placing them back on, balanced on the end of his nose. “This guy… Is this financial guy by any little twinkle of fate the one who sold you the Stygia?”
“I— well yeah, he’s my financia… I’ll KILL HIM.”

@wrathofspectre
He’s choking, clawing at his throat, but there’s no relief. To drown on dry land, to die like this? The staff careens down, down, down, crashing against cement, its eternium spire shattering into hundreds of slivers, an ancient magic destroyed in an instant. With it, his powers shudder. His pulse pounds in his ears, his nails dig into the tender flesh of his neck. His screams are silenced as fingers reach forward as if to pluck out his eye...
Thad wakes up with a gasp that borders towards a whimper. Sitting up gets him nowhere- his wrists and ankles are bound. His surroundings are unfamiliar. Where is he, and why that nightmare? More than that...why does he have a suspicion he’s had the same one before? He turns his head, eyes locking on a symbol that make the panic feel more raw, more pressing- the Justice Society. Who among them can break a mind? Kent wouldn’t do this to him. That means...
“No.” Forceful, bold, demanding. He jerks again, pulse picking up its pace.
