katara’s fatal flaw when it comes to politics and also just general communication is that she cannot fathom why anyone would wish to act in a cruel manner and knowingly harm others, whereas sokka’s is that he does not understand how people can be willfully ignorant or even just plain dumb. it’s why sokka is always having to point out to katara that someone is a malicious actor who is taking advantage of her compassion and idealism (jet, hama, aunt wu, etc) because he knows that not everyone has pure, altruistic intentions, but he also doesn’t understand that king kuei isn’t just sheltered, he is also straight up an idiot (or that hahn isn’t just arrogant, he is also incompetent, etc etc) until it’s too late.

i think an interesting part of the whole insane dynamic where riza has orders to shoot roy if he strays from the right path after ishval is that the only time we see her act, it involves flame alchemy. he wasn’t making a miscalculated political decision, he was acting impulsively out of hatred (and wrath 👀) for envy and using flame alchemy to exact as much pain as possible. obviously riza felt a moral obligation to stop him.
but how much of that judgment was specifically triggered by whether or not he fell on the “right” side of the scales of justice versus the fact that he was specifically abusing her legacy once again? was that the first time since ishval she questioned his responsibility with such power, or were there more instances we just don’t see? she did (somewhat disapprovingly) go along with him recruiting a literal child to be a state alchemist. so where does the line he can’t cross fall, between all of riza’s beliefs and roy’s good intentions?
we can say roy learned his lesson and was shocked back into reality enough on the promised day that he wouldn’t forget his better judgement ever again. and i genuinely think that was a huge character moment for him, and it’s extremely telling that the thought of hurting riza in any way brought him back. but as someone with a huge number of important and personally stressful decisions ahead of him, it’s impossibility to say he couldn’t make some major mistake.
and we can also say riza’s guilt and sense of self are so tied to the impact of roy’s actions that her judgments are very clear, that no amount of love could blind her. and i believe she would feel immense further guilt at the implication that she would ever neglect her responsibility because of her personal feelings and vulnerabilities. but i don’t know, especially after the promised day when the story has given us a hopeful future and positive outlook for our heroes, her perspective is bound to change to some degree. maybe not too much, but certainly better than when she had just spent months assigned to wrath, surveilled by pride, and separated from most of the connections she had built since ishval.
so: would riza react the same way in the future, when roy gains enough power to make such damaging mistakes that don’t involve his destructive alchemy at all? what if he contributes to social unrest or civilian violence? what if his trajectory off the right path is so slight at first that eventually she’s a frog in boiling water with no idea how things went so far? how much could she justify to herself as long as it isn’t that obvious? does she realize this about herself? does she fully trust herself with the responsibility he gave her?
i do lean toward believing in riza being a good judge and roy keeping his ass on the right path for her, because that’s what the interaction on the promised day shows us. but it’s interesting to think about as a hypothetical.

ok so. one of my mobility challenged cats wants to be the center of attention literally all the time especially when I am cleaning and working and she pitches a fit if I’m walking around the house without holding her under my arm. so today I made her a sling to cart her ass around in. she fucking loves it

as promised. grimmons drawing based off this post :3c
+ a little huggins in there. bc i love her.
[id: an ms paint drawing of grif, simmons, and huggins from red vs blue. grif is looking at simmons smugly, and wearing a shirt that reads “i like my men like i like my keyboards”. simmons is looking away, flustered, and gripping the edge of his shirt. his shirt reads “select all squares with cutest girl:”, followed by a grid of orange squares to represent grif. they are both holding hands (however, the hands were not drawn, and were instead covered with text that reads “hand hold dot png”) and blushing. huggins is in the background, floating above grif. she has the outline of a body, and is pointing at a gay flag (posed like the jerma meme) saying “waaaa! gay people real!” end id]
bonus drawing! autism. (i forgor if ive posted this already. if i did then no i didnt <3 lol)
it got a little fucked up. bc ms paint hates me. but we stay silly!
[id: an ms paint drawing of grif and simmons from red vs blue. grif looks appalled, with a cartoonish sweatdrop on his head, and is pointing at simmons while saying “my boyfriend is wearing a fucking suit to his autism diagnosis appointment.” he is dressed casually, and has two friendship bracelets (one blue with a purple sparkle, from huggins, and one yellow, from kaikaina). the drawing is blurry and pixelated. simmons looks defensive, arms crossed, saying “its a special event!” he is wearing a suit and tie. (also i don’t really like how i drew him...) end id]

Impressive detail level packed into that Emerald PFP. I dunno if she'd want to *advertise* the 5-fingered discount occupation in a groupchat, but maybe Neo supplements their hauls with game tournament prizes. Also morbidly curious how deep Yang's officer ball headcanons go.
ask in reference to this post
come with me, step into the beautiful world of officer ball OC
