On the one hand i agree with anon regarding the absurdity of this comparison as promoted by Meghan and her supporters when their education is so far above anything Meghan has studied.

However, i disagree thst we should only look at accomplishments measured via education because some of the most accomplished people walking this earth, past and present are either school/ university dropouts or were barely educated at all.

Examples like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, Mark Dell, Steve Jobs, Jay Z, Francois Pinault, John D Rockefeller, almost every A-list Hollywood actor, producer, director since invention of the medium and many, many more don’t have a degree at all.

Richard Branson and Bernie Ecclestone famously dropped out of school at 16yrs old. Estee Lauder (company founder) was educated only upto High School. Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel was barely educated, but learnt to be a seamstress during her teen years. Eleanor Rosevelt was only educated via High School followed by finishing school. Ditto Diana, Princess of Wales etc

Whatever their level of education or lack thereof, these people have gone out into the world to accomplish whatever they set out to do.

Meghan doesn’t compare because she chooses to co-opt other people’s accomplishments when they can’t or won’t pushback OR she (tries) attaches herself to super accomplished people and pretends they are on the same level in terms of achievements.

Meghan’s accomplishments are very few and only benefit herself. The accomplishments she tries to co- opt by association tend to be of benefit to the world and thus have elevated the person to fame, high status, fortune or even power. 

It’s important to note thst she’s not interested in doing the work that produces those or any results. She’s only interested in the fame, power, status and money of those people and wants that for herself without doing work for it.

The closest she worked for fame and money was the hunt for rich husband. She landed Harold and got bonus gift of power and status.

She thinks it’s just as easy to reel in the other power players as itvwas during her 18mths in the BRF without understanding that it was the BRF platform those people responded initially, but without it OR without substance or both, these people will walk away like the Clooneys did.

They initially supported her, but as soon as they got what they came for -KC or rather Charles, PoW, they dropped Meghan which happened long before Megxit.

He sits down on her bed, kisses her cheek and ties the balloons to the headboard then puts the bags next to her, there’s an outfit she wanted, a huge set of Estee Lauder lip sticks and lip glosses from Macy’s because he figured girls really love makeup and it was a last minute idea, a sparkly bracelet and a stuffed Mickey and Minnie in the bag for her birthday. All of it from Macy’s and he spent almost every dollar he had to afford all of it, but it’s damn worth it. Smiling in anticipation, he sinks down on his side and wraps his arm around her to squish her in a hug. | this one is set in the 80s and that bracelet is inspired off the one she wears a lot and seen in the its so easy video🥰

Seeing (and participating in) people getting excited in 2023 about Dracula, a 126-year-old gothic novel by my favorite unhinged little Victorian writer man. Even though we all already did this last year!

Introducing a friend to a new TV show and getting to see their reactions to all the shenanigans (whilst accidentally tapping into a renaissance of that TV show's fandom on tumblr at the same time).

Talking and texting with my friends, who love me and never forget to make time for me even though the closest one lives hundreds of miles away and we rarely get to share physical space.

I got a little gift set of these sample size Estee Lauder perfumes (it was the brand my grandma always wore) and when I'm feeling down I pick one out and put it on even if I'm not going anywhere that day and I just feel so pretty when I smell pretty.

The fact that at 35 I was finally able to get the surgery to ensure I will never be pregnant. Every single time I think about it, it gives me this incredible level of peace and safety and RELIEF.

I agree that a fair amount of wine consumption is based on perception rather than actual quality and that this effect is probably amplified for those who are not sophisticated wine drinkers. I experienced this phenomenon this past weekend when I tried a wine with my father that was given to me by a good friend for Christmas. Unlike in the case studies, the region of the wine was not clearly labeled (the California origin was in very small text at the bottom of the bottle). Instead, it was decorated for Christmas in red, green, and silver with the holiday saying “Merry & Bright.” I knew it was a cheap wine as it was part of gift set of small wine bottles supposed to be used as ornaments once finished. However, when I tried it, it was better than I thought. On the other hand, my father, admittedly a wine connoisseur, forced himself through a few sips before throwing it out. This difference in perception may have been driven by my warm sentiment for my friend which allowed me to project a higher quality on the wine than it probably deserved.

Usually when I drink a wine that is clearly labelled, I take a picture of it with the Vivino app which automatically finds it in its database and gives me an aggregated rating and statistics based on users’ reviews. I like the nice touch that it includes while I wait for the app to recognize the wine, flashing across the screen “squeezing the grapes.” I appreciate this nudge to delight to minimize the few seconds of waiting time.

Once I receive the rating, the social proof of seeing the other users’ perceptions sets my expectations for the wine even before tasting it much like the label would. It is funny how the slight difference between 3.9 and 4.0 can have such a large effect on my quality perception even if it is not warranted. Similarly, in the North Dakota wine study, participants were explicitly asked about their expectations before tasting the wine and cheese. The authors admitted this prompting led to a biased effect which I would want to avoid in our branding lab project.

In another example not in the wine sphere, I recently visited Estee Lauder in Japan for the Sloan Operations study tour where we learned that the “Made in” label has a quality perception effect quite similar to that of wine labels.
