Red's Journal - 1/13/2023

I have neglected you again, my dear journal, for multiple weeks now. So I shall pick up where I left off: On December 28th, I went sledding. Perhaps sledding is not the first activity that comes to mind when one thinks "Mt. Silver," as the rocky terrain leaves much to be desired unless one loves danger, but there are a few trademark spots on the mountain that are just ripe for ripping through. I'll leave their locations to myself lest one find this journal and make a resort of them, but believe me when I say that there is much fun to be had on Mt. Silver should one know where to look.

The reason I went sledding a few weeks back was twofold. Firstly, the snowfall packed perfectly upon landing; it had that unparalleled texture of "light and fluffy" yet "consistent and solid." Secondly, the temperature spiked to 25 degrees Fahrenheit, which is unheard of for snowy weather. Upon reading this passage over again, I'm all too aware of how heavy with autism my prose has become... One of these days, my creative side will return to me, but until then I will merely document my life without regard for rhetorical rigor. That's the only way, after all, to truly "loosen up."

I also wish to document why I have been so attached to typing in recent days. I understand that writing by hand is better for both my memory and for my attachment to the activity of journaling itself. In spite of this knowledge, I have been typing my journal entry files in text documents and saving them to my "journal entry" folder on my PC. I have two reasons for this as well. Firstly, I am enjoying a recent addition to my PC setup, namely a refurbished model of an old keyboard reminiscent of the 90's PC from my childhood bedroom. Typing on it is such a joy that I refuse to pick up a pen in its stead. Secondly, I find it easier to find words in front of a computer screen at this time: Perhaps it is the warmth of the screen itself, its glow as inviting as a seasonal-affective sunlamp, that calls me to sit before it, but I highly doubt it. It is likely just the keyboard, hahaha.

What more shall I say? Maybe I should remark on the lateness of the hour, and what has prompted me to journal in the first place. Well, firstly, I would question why I need a reason to journal at all - as it is that precise trap that caused me to compulsively drop journaling for so many weeks on end. It is so much more important for me to remain consistent and present amongst my own thoughts than it is to request that they meet some arbitrary standard of quality. Yet I do, in fact, live a life worth journaling, so I shall not slight that either. It has been rather warm this month for reasons unknown - though we are no stranger to zero-degree evenings—so I have begun training again for the fun of it. Thoughts of performing before crowds have consumed me once more, and some of my Pokemon have picked up on the urgency of my recent methods. Blastoise once met my gritted teeth with a knowing nod, while Espeon comforted my ankles mid-practice upon sensing my adrenaline. Fantasies rack my body. In dreams I drown. And this dream—in which I am gilded and glittering beneath a spotlight all my own—is no exception. I will have to flesh out this fantasy further, though my bed is calling my name.

Or perhaps that is Pikachu, peering around the bedroom door frame, pondering my return to the sheets. I can hear a slight "piiii..." in the cadence of a static hum. Maybe I should meet him there, hmm? Good night, journal—or rather PC. I would love to see you again tomorrow, on schedule this time. Please wait for me in the meantime, as I have a meeting of all things—but rest assured I will be seeing you again soon.

"Oh GODS. Okay, let's take it from the top -

The default Lysandre template is pretty... okay, I guess. I used to be way more impressed with him, but now that I'm older I've realized my thoughts on certain actions and philosophies that recur are... pretty different. But I can't just talk about a template, so let's get into specifics.

Lys is the biggest variant from the "usual", and also the one with the most variance between iterations. I've met them as a boutique owner, a scientist, and most recently... a psychic user? I'm not sure, they were wearing Espeon purple and it kinda threw me. But I consider them a close friend, and always will." She idly pats a mareep plush on her shelf.

Next is Cafe Lysandre. I'm currently able to interact with him over at his cafe, and he's... closer to the template, but there's slight deviations. Most Lysandres consider their cafes a side investment, not their main project, and none are quite so touch-averse as he is. I still haven't really figured out his deal yet, but he makes a damn fine cup of coffee.

Finally, there's... the rest? I've met royalty, time-displaced ones, one that was obsessed with Zygarde (creepy), and they all seem to flit in and out of existence, or at least my realm of perception. I can't really remark on all of them as a whole, because they were all wildly different individuals with complex lives and ideas. The only outstanding one I can currently interact with is-"

And that's the sound of a stack of folders hitting the ground, and a mienfoo scurrying away.

‘Wallflower’ Character Profiles: The Reader and Raihan

I had this sitting in my drafts folder and didn’t get round to posting it up.

I thought it would be fun to write some profiles, starting with Reader and Raihan from Wallflower if anyone’s interested.

I write pretty dark stuff, and so Reader’s profile made me sad :(

Raihan:

A ladies man, a playboy; he frequents nightclubs and has one night stands but when he meets the one, he stops and becomes totally devoted (which is what happened in this story lol). He loves to flirt and is a big flirt himself.

Deep inside he is a hopeless romantic and falls in love easily and he also falls in love quickly. He has an ideal type of woman and likes it when his S/O is stronger than him, so he falls for the Reader pretty quickly because she ticks all this boxes.

He is frequently rumoured to be dating head cheerleader Alicia, which annoyed Reader. A flashback reveals that he is used to his fans and haters alike, and apparently he hugs female fans. He often entertains his fans and does not shy away from attention from girls who were only interested in him due to his looks and seeking fame.

His social media and popularity doesn’t appear to bother him on a surface level but he occasionally shows a vulnerable side to Reader such as showing anger and telling her he was once stressed and also demonstrating protective and possessive behaviour (in the good way lol). During battles, he has no problem putting on a persona which the public loves. Outside of battles, he is a nice, calm and down to earth, normal guy.

He gifts her a Dreepy which is how she found out about his house. He also helps her brother catch a Galarian Ponyta. He owns a small house in Hammerlocke and becomes embroiled in Reader’s adventures.

The Reader:

I’ve never really described Reader in any detail - no age, no first name or surname, no height, no weight, nothing lol. Even if there was a hint of her name or feature I’d deliberately write something to stop it before it happens. That’s how much of a stinker I am.

Anyway she is quite the complex character.

Although she is described as being introverted, socially awkward and quiet, she is really nice and caring and puts others before herself. She gradually becomes comfortable with people over time and only shows an extroverted side to family and close friends.

She also tends to overthink, has anxiety, is highly neurotic and has a fear of intimacy which stems from abuse she suffered in the past (personally I wanted to expand more on this in the story tbh). She suffers from low self-esteem and often experiences loneliness. However, when she is with Raihan, he brings the best out of her and encourages her to be strong.

Reader is from Johto but she moved to Galar to work in the Wild Area Pokemon Nursery near Hammerlocke as a daycare assistant and EV trainer. She looks after babies, delivering pokemon eggs and EV training pokemon, up to 5 at a time. She is a ‘platinum’ certified Pokemon Breeder (note: I myself don’t know what dis means but I guess it means she good).

She has a foster family who are Pokemon Breeders and an older foster brother called Glenn. When she was young, she had a hard time fitting in at school and was bullied by a schoolmate who wanted to become the Champion, which made her disillusioned with the dream.

Unfortunately, the experience would impact her and she would develop a harsh outlook on life. She prefers Pokemon over people and has zero interest in social media.

Her pokemon are extremely strong, even her house ‘mon which include:

Poliwag, who refuses to evolve and keeps an Everstone tied around its tail

Drifloon, aka Driffie

Espeon, aka Espie

Phantump, whom she met in the Glimwood Tangle when she first moved to Galar.

Goomy. Gifted to her by Raihan. It prefers to sleep rather than train.

Dreepy. Gifted to her by Raihan. Has a naughty nature.

Her current competitive team consists of the following:

Metagross - an unwanted pokemon egg given to her by her foster parents and the first Pokemon she EV trained. She trained it so it has high attack, speed and HP.

Garchomp, the Gible that tried to save her from a Drudiggon (nicknamed Chompy). It has the same EV spread as Metagross. He is protective of the Reader

Tyranitar. He has a timid nature but is a good boi

Starmie. A specia sweeper, Starmie knows thunderbolt and has high EVs in special attack and speed

Whimsicott. I wish I wrote more about this little dude tbh

Togekiss. Same as above

Haxorus. Has same EV spread as Metagross but his attack surpasses everyone’s.

Salamence. Enjoys flying.

Extra: her main pokemon team is actually Metagross, Garchomp, Tyranitar, Haxorus and Salamence.

Sun and Moon

Pairing: Seoham x reader

Pre-reading A/N: Seoham was asking to be written and so I gave in. There will be a post-reading A/N on this because I feel like there needs to be an explanation of certain aspects of this story. For now, I hope you enjoy and I’ll see you at the end <3

You were so engrossed with working on the document on your screen that you practically had a heart attack when your chair tilted all the way back out of the blue. After you collected your soul back in your body, your eyes focused on the handsome upside down face in front of you.

“You’re too serious,” Seoham told you.

“You know I have deadlines to meet,” you reminded him as you righted yourself back up and went back to your task. “What are you doing here anyway?”

Seoham walked into your cubicle and leaned against your desk. “Just making sure your computer is working alright. You haven’t called in with a problem in a few days.”

You were cursed when it came to all things computer related at work. From locking yourself out to accidentally deleting the file you’ve been working on for a week to programs just not running correctly for you. You name it, you’ve called IT for it. That’s how you and Seoham became friends. He took it upon himself to be your go to IT person. While he did his magic, he’d talk to you about random things and you ended up bonding over your mutual nerdiness.

“That usually means everything’s going just fine,” you said as you continued to type your edits. You clicked the save button and the usual icon popped up spinning, indicating for you to wait. Seoham was talking about the latest anime he started binging as you waited...and waited...and waited. You eventually looked up at Seoham who smirked.

"Lucky I stayed for a few, huh?" he teased. You both switched positions as he sat down at your keyboard and started retrieval steps so that all your hard work wouldn’t be lost forever. “We’re still meeting up after work, right?” he asked you as he clicked through folders in search of your lost document.

“Of course,” you confirmed. It was the day for your walk around the nearby park as you both played Pokemon Go! on your phones. The part of your week that you always looked forward to. You got to destress with a great guy that you’ve been crushing on since the moment he opened up his mouth and asked “what’s your favorite pokemon”. Since that day many, many months ago, you both met up on this unofficial weekly date where you would continue to nerd out after work hours until the sun set.

“All done!” he announced. He got up from your chair and had you take a seat to get back to work.

“My hero!” you exclaimed which made him smile proudly and also made his ears turn pink.

“I’ll see you later,” he said and then patted your head, “Don’t need me again too soon.”

You hummed your response as you got back to focusing on finishing that wretched document.

* * *

“Finally!” you yelled out as you stretched your limbs prepping for the laps around the park.

“Another stressful week down,” Seoham said as he stood beside you.

“They’re lucky I love what I do,” you stated as you both started your walk down the familiar park path.

You both fell into a comfortable pace, checking your phones when you heard the alert of a nearby pokemon to catch or a pokemon stop to hit up for supplies. Seoham continued to go on about the new anime he watched, but this time you were able to focus on what he was saying and actually hold the conversation. You loved having a friend you can relate to like this. His looks were just a bonus to his personality and the company he provided you and the feeling that you can be your nerdy self with him. Occasionally, your hands would brush each other’s, but this was the norm on these walks. And as per the norm, you would always have an urge to take hold of it, but you were never one to make such a bold move. Little did you know, Seoham was just as shy...but he was going to change that today.

“Hey,” he said to you, “I was here a few days ago by myself and I found this one secret place in the park. Want to check it out?” You nodded in answer and followed him down an off trail path.

You weren't walking for long until Seoham turned off the dirt path and led the way in between two thick bushes. He pushed branches out of your way and as you finally reached the clearing, you were greeted by a secluded koi pond. In the middle was a small, beautiful Asian style gazebo. Seoham was making his way to the bridge that connected it to the land surrounding it. You followed his footsteps and when you entered the gazebo, your breath was taken by the view it had of the surrounding greenery as the sun began to set in the background.

"Wow!" you said in awe, "This is amazing!"

"I thought you might like it," Seoham commented, "It's nice and peaceful here." You nodded, stunned to silence. "Hey, do you have an extra Eevee to spare?"

You checked your phone to see what was in your collection. "You're in luck!" you exclaimed as you clicked on his profile to do a trade. You leaned up against the gazebo railing as you touched the necessary parts of your screen to complete the transfer. A few seconds later the pokemon he gave you came through your phone. “An Espeon?!” you exclaimed, “Are you serious?!”

He smiled as he walked over to stand beside you. “I really don’t need the Eevee, but trading is the only way to transfer pokemons between friends.” He leaned closely over your shoulder and peered at your phone. “Make it your buddy,” he suggested. You did so and he placed his phone next to yours. His screen revealed an Umbreon as his buddy.

“Aw! It’s a matching pair,” you pointed out.

“Y/N,” he whispered in your ear, “Will you be the Espeon to my Umbreon?”

Surprised at the question, you turned your head to face him. You couldn’t believe this was happening. You smiled at him and asked, “Do Eevees have eight evolutions?”

Seoham smiled at your answer. He closed the distance between you two and gave you a sweet kiss as he closed his pokeball over your heart.

Post-reading A/N: Did ya like it? 😁 - it’s OK if you didn’t...not everybody will. But I’m going to provide a bit of an explanation here in case you’re not familiar with the Pokeverse. So in the Pokeverse, Umbreon and Espeon are like a yin and yang pair, a balance between light and dark. Umbreon is known as a moonlight pokemon (dark) and Espeon is a sun pokemon (light). This also pays a slight hommage to KNK’s “Sun, Moon, Star”...not to mention satisfies the Libra in me that thrives off of balance in all aspects of life. Oh! Also...in case you didn’t pick it up...Eevees do have eight evolutions (all pretty kick ass in their own right)...heheheh. OK...that’s the end of the inner workings of Jackie’s mind. Cutie Reviews: Yume Twins August 18

I took a few days longer than I was planning on, but since I got my November Gacha Gacha crate (like three or four days ago <3<) I realized I should probably get to work on this!

This months theme: Dream Land (ᴗ˳ᴗ)

We are all about trying to make every part of your day cute and relaxing, and this month we are all about making sure you end your day on a cute note. This includes when you are heading to bed after a fulfilling day! Your kawaii box this month is packed with items that will help you wind down, relax, and drift off to dreamland!

Contest

Despite the items not being at all Pokemon themed, the Contest was to draw your most favorite Pokemon and include it with a pic of our Pokemon-themed item in the box.

The prizes included a Sailor Moon Luna Shoulder Bag, and a Sailor Moon Uniform wallet for Grand Prize, while runner-ups won a Sailor Moon plastic cup.

(I really, REALLY love that purse x3 I wish I had entered~)

And again we’re bombarded with Sailor Moon (not that it’s bad of course), plus some My Melody action on the side. They had been doing a collab around the time this came out (or maybe right before?), so I think this was a cute idea~

Our special topics for this month featured Gudetama celebrating his 5th anniversary, and Sumikko Gurashi.

Sleepy Pokemon Cable Protector

Our first item is an adorable Pokemon cable protector blind box, themed after sleepy Pokemon. There was 6 available, including Umbreon and Espeon, Pikachu, Vulpix and Alolan Vulpix, and Eevee.

I love all of Eevee’s forms, and Pikachu, but Vulpix is my favorite Pokemon- so I really, really wanted one of them! But they all look so sweet, I’m not that disappointed.

It’s a really cute, high-quality figure. Even if you didn’t use it for the intended use, you could probably do quite a few things with it. But there is one thing bugging me; am I one of the few people who doesn’t get what a “cable protector“ is about?

I mean... why does the cable need protected anyway? It’s a really popular blind box trend in Japan, but I just don’t get it. I’ll still use it, but I don’t get it.

Don’t get me wrong though, if I got one of the vulpix I’d totally be super-excited to add to my collection.

Mini Cooling Pillow Cover

First of all, this fit a normal-sized pillow. If this is mini, I want to see what normal or large size to them is.

Anyway, this is a cooling pillow- a great item to have during summer when the warm weather can make sleeping or taking naps a real pain in the cutie. Especially if you end up tossing and turning, and often flip the pillow to find it’s cool patch, something I do often.

The pillow is made from cooling fabric made to instantly cool and remain cool by keeping a specific temperature. It came in a doggy-coffee themed design and was available in mint or indigo (the book mistakenly says “two designs”, but they’re both the same).

I’m not even going to lie. When I got this I took it out to try it right away, and I’ve been using it since (or at least until a month ago, because lately I’ve been using a different pillow. But it still works perfectly fine!). Even now when it’s winter, it’s cool to touch and doesn’t seem effected by the chilly weather, but I noticed it feels a tiny bit different. But it’s not uncomfortable or anything.

Not only that but it makes a really cute decorative pillow~

Kawaii Sanrio Notebook

This one goes great with my folder I got a few months back~

Besides being cozy for bed, it’s also nice to unwind by writing in a diary or journal, or recording your various dreams. So for this month, we get a Sanrio-themed notebook for that purpose. There are 2 designs, including Little Twin Star, and this one I got featuring Marumofubiyori, one of Sanrio’s newer characters. He is joined by his two toy friends, Kanikama the crab and Gyoniku the fish.

The inside of the notebook has a simplified design featuring Marumofubiyori, and this is the back of it. It serves as a little character section.

What I like about this notebook is it’s high quality. Like the Sailor Moon one in the Doki Doki box I just reviewed, it’s thick and made from nice material, and it has a spiral binding. It also has a stretchy band to keep it shut, which you don’t see on too many of these notebooks we get.

I really don’t write in a diary anymore (I don’t have a life, so I don’t have much to say), and I never kept a dream diary either. But I will use it for something one way or the other.

Relaxing Puffy Plushie

This is the perfect item for bed and nap-time! A plush toy x3 I love plushies and stuffed animals. Not only was there six different cuties available, but when you squeeze their tummy they make an adorable squeaky snore. They’re also a little bit mochi-like so they can handle a little pulling.

It’s a really cute and nice plushie, but I’m kinda bothered by the fact three of the animals are shown holding an item, while the other three don’t. Maybe it’s to make them unique or something- but to me it seems weird. Not only that, but doesn’t a squeaky toy kinda defeat the purpose of relaxing sleepy time?

Sumikko Gurachi Wash Towel

This is an important before and after bed item : D nothing feels better then washing your face after a long day, or a long sleep. It came in 2 designs (the other matching the cup I got some boxes back), and is 34cm x 36cm length.

Not only is the design really fun and cute-looking, but it’s a useful practical item that you don’t need to make exclusive for bed time. Other than that, a towel is a towel you know?

Kawaii Animal Bookmark

Our last item for the bx is this adorable bookmark set, featuring five different animals, each with four unique sticky note sets. A very detailed, but cute and simple-looking product.

It’s things like this that I really like- especially since I’ve been reading again these past two years or so. I could also see it coming handy for work or school, or if multiple people are sharing a book..

♡ Cutie Ranking ♡

Content - 5 out of 5. Everything was decent and cute, and I loved how it all had variety.

Quality - 4.5 out of 5. Quality is there for sure, but I’m not sure they were worth the price. I’m probably just being really picky but I just can’t see this specific box matching the price we pay.

Theme: 3 out of 5. It’s there for sure, but honestly I feel like there was a missed opportunity here. There are so many different things they could have put in here to say “this is specifically a dreamy-cute bed-time or nap item~“ rather than “it’s so practical you can use it at practically any time of the day!“. I mean that’s good and all, I like practically. But at the same time I would have loved to have more bed or nap-time worth items. Like maybe an eye mask, or a sleeping cap, a tooth brush , or maybe some cozy socks or some kind of relaxation item??

Total Rank: 12.5 out of 15 Cuties. It wasn’t a bad box, bu I can’t say it was my favorite. Practicality was definitely there and I do appreciate that and how cute everything is, but I was turned-off by missed opportunities and how it could have been so much better.

4. Plushie - It’s cute, but... I don’t know, to me it’s lacking something.

5. Notebook - Same as below, but it's so sweet due to having so many different details/designs~ I just wanna cuddle Mofu whenever I see him~

6. Wash Towel - As adorable as Sumikko Gurashi is, this is a generic design from the brand.

Okay, so that’s it for this review! Since I got November’s Gacha Gacha I’ll probably be doing that one next before I resume August box reviews. It’s just easier this way. I’m planning on getting 1 or 2 more reviews done before Christmas, but in case I don’t I’ll just say Merry Christmas now!

my brother came in askin what i wanted for my birthday. and I just looked at this huge ass bookmark folder of stuff i want and... i don’t want any of em. I already got myself the ditto espeon i wanted, I’m good. Just give me my favorite flavor of chips and saltwater taffy and leave me alone. that’s all I want for my birthday.

...okay, maybe i want a haircut, too. but I’m not tellin them that.

i got just about everything done that needed to be done today. i need to check if i’m actually registered for specific classes yet or not and continue with ongoing studies but other than that i got a lot done.

first thing i did was get up at 9:20, which is just a bit earlier than i’ve been getting up lately. tonight i’m gonna try for bed at 11:30 to see about getting up at 8 or 8:15. right now it’s 10:35 so i’m in the clear for now.

gotta let dad know i will be accompanying eve to the vet on friday.

i showered and got the final bandages off. my bellybutton actually only has a tiny cut. not into it, but around the inside in a semi-circle. there wasn’t any extra blood or anything, it’s all closed nicely. i’m guessing there’s just a lot of blood flow through that area of your body and that’s why the bandages looked a lot more severe. i even scrubbed off ALMOST all the residue at long last. there’s a little bit left around a scab i didn’t want to irritate too much. my stomach finally looks like i was lightly injured instead of operated on. taking off the tape helped a lot honestly. none of the incisions look like they will leave a noticeable scar.

modern medicine really is impressive. when my gramma had her gallbladder out just 10 years ago or so it left a definite mark along her side.

anyway after that i looked up a lot of finance stuff and compiled a list of resources to review again later. stuff explaining, like, what investment is and how it works and why it’s preferable to just putting everything in a savings account. and what a retirement fund looks like and the differences between all the varieties. i think i am going to have to actually have someone at the bank sit me down and explain how my accounts work though. and maybe how to tone down mom’s control over my finances. definitely want to do that BEFORE i leave, as there is no open branch in gainesville.

looks like i could even bring mom along on saturday if we need, like, negotiations or something. i’ll keep looking into it.

then i went to the grocery store and got some tortilla chips, and some dog treats since you get a dollar off (which is like 20%!) if you got a membership. i got the old favorite, bacon and blueberry. i’m gonna start giving them to the dogs after eve’s surgery. i’m hoping cookies will lift her mood.

then i ate an entire bowl full of sharon’s salsa and also heated up some leftover pizza. i was really full afterward but i’m glad i didn’t overdo it with the salsa. i didn’t actually fill up the entire bowl until it overflowed. i only reasonably filled it.

the pizza made me SUPER sick afterward. i spent a while listening to music while i looked at the rest of my finance resource tabs. then i downloaded an app that tracks how long you spend each day working on individual long-term projects and helps you pace yourself with timers and scheduled breaks and stuff. i even coughed up the five dollars for no ads.

i spent an hour giving it a try! i added a few projects to work on over the next week, and stuff i thought would probably be important to keep up with at school like “study physics.” for now i just timed myself organizing some bookmarks. it was nice actually. i got all my folders where i want them, i cleared out my “general” tab into the appropriate folders, and i started going through one of the larger folders looking for dead links or things that were sorted incorrectly back when i made the folder like five years ago.

the hope is that if i streamline my folders enough i will be encouraged to actually look in them sometimes? at least my music folder is looking fantastic. i’ve got it sorted into genre and a subfolder for things i would like to buy when i have money for it.

i hope i can make good use of this app. it seems promising so far.

then i took care of some ufl orientation stuff and a survey i found in my email. and i signed and sent off some paperwork. then i went to dinner with gramma and grampa, my brother, and the cousins. this time my brother did invite my sister but she stayed home because she and mom wanted to go to the movies. (mom flaked out on the movie. but gramma is going with her tomorrow.)

i ordered a veggie burger, and the waitress wrote it down and read it back to me correctly, but when i got my food i took a bite out of the burger and got a mouthful of Double Beef Patty.

i always feel like i’m put in a complicated situation when this happens. and it does happen a lot. like, on one hand, i really don’t want to eat meat! and i am very out of practice with digesting meat! and now i am even more unable to digest it due to the gallbladder thing!! but on the other hand, not eating the meat isn’t going to bring the animal back to life. it feels like if i refuse to eat it the animal died for nothing. no one else is going to eat it now that it’s on my plate sitting in front of me.

i felt bad because i really did get sick. i wanted to avoid too much more fat because of the pizza for lunch. veggie burgers are usually pretty good about that, and i got a side salad instead of fries or anything. i dunno. the waitress was nice about it and it wasn’t her fault. i hope that didn’t affect the tip grampa gave her. mom said he tips badly in general anyway though.

after that we went back to gramma’s house and i had another klondike bar and played “village idiot” with my brother and austin and thomas. i lost only once out of the four rounds even with austin very carefully explaining each turn of the game to me constantly and telling me my options when my cards were face up. i teased him about it after the first round and he let me just play. i did get a lot better at it after the second round though.

thomas did the “kill yourself” thing again but it seemed to be more that he was very enthusiastic about the game and it had become his go-to phrase at some point before the first time he told me that.

after the game my brother and thomas and i were screwing around on austin’s computer. my brother knew most of his social circle so we were just goofing off on discord.

then my brother and i came across a channel where austin had posted pictures of my sister (taken from screenshots of her snap chat a few months ago) and had received some very... inappropriate comments on her appearance. i asked who the guy was and his age and he apparently is older than even me. that made me REALLY upset. when austin got back my brother looked at him and was all “what the hell is this?” and i told him not to show them pictures of us any more. he seemed confused? but he also said “ok.”

i talked it over with asher when grampa was driving me and my brother home. asher was real nice about it at least. when we got home i took wiley on another lap around the neighborhood in 100-degree heat, and then i told my sister what happened. she thanked me for telling her and said i did everything i could already.

it was actually kind of nice that she thanked me for once. i usually get a response more along the lines of “o....k....????” when i try to talk with my sister. or “that’s just how she is” when i talk about mom. i recognize that my sister has a very different (but just as complicated and stressful) relationship with my mother than i do.

what did i do after that... it looks like i just checked some comics and watched an episode of nostalgia critic and folding ideas. and watched another physics video. i’m kind of relieved that it’s coming back to me fairly easily. i’ll try to keep up with it tomorrow. tomorrow evening we are entertaining jamey and her kids (part 2!) it looks like the oldest one just got pokemon moon so i can finally give her the espeon i spent that one evening training up haha. hopefully in exchange for transferring all her pokemon up to the new game she will help me evolve my machoke.

i’m a little nervous about how much i should really... talk to her or ask her about herself. she’s ten years younger than me. like what’s polite and what’s too much? will she think i’m being patronizing if i start explaining too much about pokemon or whatever? should i ask what kinds of tv shows she likes? would it be weird if we talked about steven universe or something?

i know i was just a kid a few years ago but i already don’t remember how they work. this is weird. i seem to remember telling myself i would never not understand someone my age but i don’t remember when that was. probably when i was like nine. i have a lot of “shower thoughts” style wisdom chunks to impart on a younger generation but i always figured it would be, like, my brother’s kids at some point in the far future.

god. i’m babysitting my old babysitter’s kids. i want to treat them with the respect i would give an adult but at the same time there is a difference in how kids work compared to adults. i don’t know where i’d be overestimating or underestimating. underestimating kids is insulting to them, of course, i remember that, but i feel like overestimating is a lot more... stressful and dangerous.

i guess i’ll figure it out as i go.

i’m worried about eve... she seems like she’s about ready to give up. she just seems so exhausted when i come over to pet her. she barely lifts her head. she doesn’t greet me at the door since she doesn’t spend time with the other dogs when i’m not home. so she doesn’t hear the front door open or close.

i need her to hang on for just one more day. i wish i could tell her that. one day before she can exchange this problem for a set of less insurmountable problems. i really hope that the amputation is helpful for her. even if she only lives a couple more months, if she’s able to “live” again, it will have been worth it. by “live” i mean stuff like getting around when she wants to. eating. wagging her tail. thinking a little more clearly. not being irritable and frustrated and confused all the time.

she’s sleeping right now. at least it passes the time i guess. i still get the feeling that she’s the one taking care of me instead of the other way around. i check on her a lot but when she’s not sleeping she’s usually watching me. she almost never leaves the room i’m in and almost always follows me as soon as i leave. she has gotten better at “stay, i will be right back” at least. i wish there was more i could do for her right now.

At the last con I went to, there was a person dressed up as an Espeon with the noticeable ears and tail, but otherwise dressed like a secret agent, and even had a folder that said 'confidential' in big red letters. When one of my friends asked what the person was supposed to be coplaying, they said "Espeonage"

Chapter 1: Transformation

Anna sat in the small chair in the waiting area. It had been half an hour since she arrived and finished all the necessary paperwork. She picked at the hole in the knee of her jeans and sighed. How much longer was this going to take? She glanced up to the tv, but it was only showing the weather. Clear skies for the next few days, should be safe for travelling. That was at least good news. The door to the waiting area opened, and a young man in a lab coat leaned through the doorway.

“Anna? We’re ready for you now, if you’ll come with me.” Anna stretched and rolled her eyes.

“Finally!” she moaned. She hopped to her feet and followed the young man. She was a slim girl, just under the average height. She had spent a good deal of time working out, and her well toned muscles showed it. She wore a purple tank top with a pair of ripped jeans. A matching pair of purple sneakers completed the look. Her short, light brown hair hung just past her ears. The aide spoke up as they walked.

“You are sure you want to go through with this? Not everyone makes it through the process.” he adjusted some papers in his hands and opened a door. A gesture to Anna indicated this was the right room. She stepped past him, nodding as she did.

“It’s the best way to get a good job in security, and I want to protect my home town. My dad did it before me, and I want to follow in his footsteps.” She glanced around the small room. It contained a reclining chair, and various medical implements. The aide turned and went back down the hall. An older gentlemen, .already in the room stood up and greeted her.

“Welcome Anna! I’m Professor Oak, and I’ll be guiding you through the procedure today. We already have all your paperwork, so if you’ll sit in the chair we can start!” he smiled brightly and the red gem imbedded in his forehead sparkled. Anna hopped into the chair and clapped her hands.

“Okay doc! I’m ready when you are.” Oak smiled, walking over and attaching some minor restraints on the chair.

“We just need to secure you. Some people have convulsions during the process. Before we officially begin, I just need to read some statements. Sorry, I’m sure you’ve heard it all a million times, but it’s procedure and required so, just bear with me okay?” He smiled again and patted her shoulder. The gem glowed again and a folder floated across the room into Oak’s hands.

“Here we go,” he cleared his throat then began. “Our world is inhabited by creatures we call Pokemon. These are creatures of immense power. They are able to control the elements, and are destructive forces. In the past people would train, catch, and live with Pokemon.” As he spoke we walked about the room, collecting supplies and setting up needles, swaps, and chemicals near the chair. The notebook hovering by his face the entire time.

“Then, 25 years ago a great war broke out. Pokemon were used as weapons during the war, decimating the planet. Our population diminished, and Pokemon began to stop listening to us. As such, we were trapped, at the mercy of these powerful destructive creatures. But shortly after the end of the war, scientists made a breakthrough! Humans are closer to pokemon then we thought! Studies of the shapeshifting Ditto species found an amazing ability. A serum could be made from Ditto cells, that would then grant us the abilities and strength of Pokemon!” He held up a small vial of light purplish liquid. Anna brightened, where before she was getting bored by the story she’d heard in school her whole life. The doctor continued.

“Now when one reaches the age of 18, if they want to go into the military, or police, or a number of other professions they are given tests and if they pass, they will be injected with the serum. This is the ONLY,” he looked at Anna sternly, “the ONLY safe way to travel between the protective barriers between towns. Either AS a Ditto Injected Person, or travelling with one. Now, are you SURE you want to go through with the process?” Anna nodded without hesitation. “Okay, sign this saying you have been given your briefing and are choosing to go through with it.” Anna signed the paper and the Doctor set it aside.

“We can begin! You’re not the only one going through DIP today, my grandson will be here later to also get injected.” He filled a syringe with the liquid, and checked it for bubbles. “The only other thing I can say, is that is 100% random what species your body will connect and change with. I myself got an Espeon, so I was very lucky. No matter what you get however, you CAN make it work for you!” Anna nodded and gritted her teeth.

“I’m ready doc. Let’s do this!” the doctor laughed brightly, then moved over and slowly injected her with the serum. Anna winced at the needle prick. The doctor put cotton and a bandage over the site, then sat back.

“Now it will take a few minutes to take effect, again, it is different for…” Anna inhaled sharply as pain and tingling shot through her body. The doctor quickly reached out, the gem on his head sparkling, as he tried to calm her. Despite the soothing effects of his psychic powers, she whimpered as she blacked out.
